Life gives you lemons and you make lemonade...This year I found this statement to be so true. I recently found myself in a situation where I needed to find a second job which fitted not only around my current place of work, but also my teenage children. Not having working in care before I wasn't sure whether I had the skills to to care for our older generation effectively, but Home Instead provided me with all the support and training required and I haven't looked back. A professional, compassionate company with a 'human' element.....they really do care. I like that each Client and Caregiver are matched so expertly and I'm enjoying the ever-expanding family I've gained. I couldn't recommend Home Instead enough - both as an employer and client.

I have been a CAREGiver with Home Instead York for nearly 7 years. Initially I thought it would be a "job" until my child started school as it fitted in. It very quickly became so much more than a "job". I've become apart of families, I've become friends and each and every client I have cared for and continue to care for have a piece of me and me of them. They tell me stories about their life which I feel privileged to hear and I tell them about mine. Being a caregiver to me is having a new found epiphany. I've learnt compassion for others I never thought possible. If you'd have told me 2 years ago that I'd be best friends with people 2 generations above me I'd have never believed you...but I have. With HOME INSTEAD I've found a career where you never wake up on a Morning and you say "i can't be botherd today" you look forward to that moment you walk through someone's door and see them return that smile you gave to them. It also comes with worrying about them as if they were your own as being a carer YOU ARE the eyes,ears and hearts for the family's that can't be with them right now. All this couldn't be possible without the amazing people behind you! The other amazing caregivers that even though you rarely see,you work together because you all care about that client so much! The amazing backbone that is the office- they really do have your back and when things get hard they are always there! Being a carer and thanks to the people I care for I've been privileged to do some amazing things,standing side by side with them has been an honour. Listening to their amazing life stories has been inspiring. We laugh alot and sometimes cry but nothing beats that moment when you say I love you and they say it back!

I was first introduced to HomeInstead when we were looking for care for some elderly relatives. We looked at various companies offering private care, and selected HomeInstead because they offered the most practical and flexible service. A wonderful team of carers visited our relatives regularly and reliably, and provided a range of services tailored to their needs. Nothing was too much trouble! As they became more infirm, the service adapted. We were kept informed of any issues that arose, which was very reassuring. I was so impressed by the service HomeInstead offered our relatives, that I applied to work for them. I had very little previous experience of caring for older adults, but this was no barrier since the training and induction package they offer is comprehensive and very supportive. I have been with the company for seven months now. I love my job, and feel extremely proud to work for a company with such a caring and client-centred ethos. I work hours that suit me, in locations close to home, and have the satisfaction of knowing that I am making a difference not just to a client but to their whole family.
