I signed my daughter for defence lab and she attended for many months. A positive change was seen not only in her behaviour but also in her confidence - it bought the best out in her! Mark is a fantastic coach and not only coaches the defence lab side of things but also became a confident of the kids and they'd open up to Mark about things they may not open us as easily to their parents and always offers good and sound advice with relative feed back to us parents. Mark goes the extra mile, highly rated and recommended.

He's communication is brilliant and is always willing to answer any questions. I first started accessing personal training with Mark when I was recovering from a lengthy period of ill health, an operation and was menopausal. He was brilliant! Patient, knowledgable and flexible in his approach- given that every other week it felt like another bit of me had ‘gone wrong’. We always had great and interesting chats alongside the training which definitely helped when lockdown restrictions kicked in. I totally recommend his training! Amazing! Can’t recommend Mark enough! We travel every week from Birmingham City Centre for his teachings. Mark is very patient no matter your skill level and will take his time to make sure you understand what, where, why etc we are learning and how best to make yourself safe physically and mentally. Martial Arts and Fitness offers a high level of Wing Chun tuition, allowing students to immerse themselves in the traditional, Southern Chinese style of kung fu and self-defence. The tuition offered in-class supports both physical and theoretical learning, and is aided with the support of the schools Sifu, and further developed with direct interaction with students of varying levels. For the person who wants to push themselves both physically and mentally within the world of martial arts, supported by a fitness framework I cannot recommend Martial Arts and Fitness enough.

I have been to lots of fitness classes in and around Birmingham and Martial Arts & Fitness is by far the best. Mark is really knowledgeable and keeps the classes fun and varied. I have been attending Boot Camp for a number of years. Mark is an excellent trainer who has a great variety of exercises which allows him to keep the sessions engaging and fun. Mark has a real passion for improving peoples fitness and knows how and when to increase the challenge. Boot camp is a great option for anyone who enjoys high intensity exercise and wants to improve their fitness. These sessions would be suitable to any level of fitness though as Mark's level of knowledge allows to to differentiate the activities for all participants.

The classes are friendly and welcoming and easy for newbies to quickly feel at home. It is small and friendly gym with a good bit of banter. Best Personal Trainer EVER!!!! After experiencing some health challenges i wanted to take back some control and Mark was the perfect trainer to help. He researched my medical condition, he pays attention to my aches and pains and always finds a way to help me achieve! I have been training with Mark for over a year, I know I would never of achieved the level of fitness without the personal attention given in my training sessions. Mark is always very encouraging, experienced and committed to the goals I want to achieve.

Mark is an excellent personal trainer. He has such a wide range of exercises and activities that each session is different, varied and tailored to my fitness level. I used to find going to the gym repetitive but now I enjoy every session and really feel my fitness improving each week.
If you enjoy high intensity workouts outdoors you should check out his boot camps sessions as well.

I started training with Mark during lockdown as I wanted to increase movement, fitness and flexibility. Mark assessed my fitness levels and goals and set a mixed routine to give me an all muscle workout, increasing in difficulty and variety as we move through each week.
Look forward to getting back to our sessions once lockdown rules allow it.

My sons have attended Defence Lab classes for several years now. My eldest started in the Street Smart 8 - 13 age class and has recently moved up to the adults class which he really enjoys. My younger son started in the Super Sparks 4 -7 age class and is now in the Street Smart 8 - 13 class which he also really enjoys.
Both say it is hard work and keeps them active, but is fun and has given them confidence that they can defend themselves if they need to.
I see that Mark teaches the kids to be confident in themselves and their abilities, not to misuse what they have learnt and to be respectful, all in a fun and encouraging environment.

Mark's classes are really challenging and it can take a few weeks to get into your stride. But the truth is you won't get fitter until you challenge yourself, and after a short while you'll be amazed at your progress. You'll be in a friendly supportive atmosphere, you'll look forward to your class and then it's addictive! Then you're on your way to becoming fitter, healthier and bursting with energy.

I have been seeing Mark as a PT since 2012, having done a lot of research-I was involved in a serious road accident in 2006, which has left me with multiple ongoing physical injuries. I wanted someone who would understand my injuries and restrictions and help to push me to attain some of the physical fitness and abilities I had prior to the accident (I was an extremely keen cyclist and runner-my fitness dominated my life, and ironically I was hit by a speeding car whilst on my bike in the Pyranees).
I trust Mark and his knowledge and experience. He has helped me from being able to ‘stomp’ around, to someone who is able to run for an emergency, I have strength and co-ordination, my core muscles are strong which really helps with balance.
In 2014, together with colleagues from work, I was able to walk the half marathon to raise funds for QEHB and the air ambulance-which was really important to me, but only achieved with Mark’s coaching.
Personal Training is not just about becoming a fit, sculpted person, it’s about becoming the person you want to be fitness wise, and achieving the goals you set yourself.
I couldn’t have achieved this level of rehabilitation or quality of life without Mark’s help, and cannot recommend this enough.

Don’t compare it with Testerone filled gyms you might have attended or been put off by in the past because You have fun and a laugh while you get fit or learn martial art here and be coming back for more.

I first started with Martial arts and fitness to learn Wing Chun after being introduced to the classes by a friend. Over the past few years though I have learned so much more. The instructors are very knowledgeable about all aspects of health and fitness. As well as learning about wing chun and other methods of Self defense I have improved my knowledge about nutrition, the psychology of self defense, rehabilitating myself after injuries, weight loss (dropping about 6kg in a couple of months) and many other things.
There are many different classes available for all ages and levels. Would definitely recommend to anyone instead of attending a traditional gym. You'll be putting your money to a much better use.

Mark makes you feel at ease from the minute you walk through the door. He’s super kind, knowledgeable and quickly assesses your levels tailoring the workout to you. I’ve come so far since starting PT sessions with him - I’ve gone from not being able to do a single sit-up to being able to do multiple sets - in not very long at all!
