Reviews of Elements Martial Arts Brighton

Yousuf has not built an academy, he has built a community. He truly wants every person that trains at Elements to be a success, on and off the mats, would recommend. World class instruction with a home town vibe. You are made to feel like family the instant you walk in. Everyone is amazingly supportive of the beginners and it shows in the culture they have built. Love this place ! Jp is not to bad either 👍
j. s.
Best atmosphere and community of any gym I've ever attended. Lots of friendly faces to meet with a wide range of excellent coaches, each with their own style. There's a wide skill range and something for everyone (assuming you enjoy simulated fighting and banter).
J. H.
Elements training and atmosphere is second to none, always great to roll here!
You have so much experience to tap into and everyone is really approachable no matter what level. Also there is plenty of classes / times available which makes it easy to work around any schedule you have.
Wouldn't want to train anywhere else!

I have been training here since summer 2021. Im not new to BJJ and have trained elsewhere before.
The culture here is very good. Everyone helps each other improve and there is a big focus on performance and progression.
The coaches are all successful competitors and are regularly completing. So you know what you learn works. At competitions it’s great to have the coaches and team mates in your corner.
Great place for training and making friends.
Also the gym has great facilities and is really clean.

Have been training here since August 2021. I didn’t have any experience at all of martial arts prior to this and was very nervous about starting such male dominated sport but I couldn’t imagine a more safe, female friendly or inclusive environment to train in! I also feel like I’m part of a real community here. The pace of the classes are very do-able for any level of fitness and I never feel embarrassed to ask questions or for extra help :)
W. G.
Been here for years and doubt I’ll leave until I’m too old to move. Super friendly environment and a good mix of beginners and killers. Coach is cool, team are all personable. If you like juijitsu then this is the place. If you haven’t tried it, here is your chance

I've been training at Elements for roughly a year and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Dom and Yousuf are highly knowledgable and friendly instructors that genuinely want to see their students progress. You can train hard, but the culture is relaxed enough that people are happy to roll light if you're injured or not feeling it

Hands down the best BJJ gym I've ever trained at. The instructors are patient, kind and highly experienced. Everyone on the mats are really friendly and will go out of their way to make sure youre comfortable.
There are plenty of classes to choose from which is a massive relief as it can be a struggle fitting in classes whilst working full time- this isnt an issue at Elements as there are morning, afternoon and evening classes with world class instructors.
Give it a try, the only regret youll have is that you didnt start sooner.

Super friendly and welcoming Gym! As the fourth BJJ gym I’ve been to in Brighton I can say this is easily the best! Amazing facilities with so much space and consideration for female members. Yousuf runs a gym on inclusivity, kindness and a huge love of the sport, can’t recommend enough
A. E.
After getting involved with some white collar MMA fights I wanted to start training a lot more at a dedicated gym.
I heard great things about elements from friends and so I started training in August 2021. Everyone makes you feel welcome and the training is second to none the coaches are amazing.

Love Elements , the coaches (3 or so black belts) and students there are all friendly and welcoming , no massive egos. Would recommend that anyone comes and gives it a go whatever level you are
T. D.
Super welcoming gym. Great for hobbyists and competitors alike. I joined to learn self defence and got addicted to the sport because it's so much fun. Worth every penny.

I’ve been training at elements martial arts for 7 years now, in Brazilian jiu jitsu, and mixed martial arts, the coaches, all the team are fantastic, everyone supports each other on and off the mats, it’s like a big family! We have kids classes too, everyone can get involved and keep fit and learn to defend themselves. We also have a big competition team that never fail to achieve amazing things on the competition scene! When i first started elements I was struggling with some difficulties in life, Yousuf was a friend, and very supportive to me, elements martial arts has helped me in so so many ways over the years! It’s a great club to be apart of and I feel very fortunate! Daniel Long

Most warm and welcoming gym I’ve been to! Coaches and teammates so respectful and polite it’s so pleasant to be in the gym every time. Not to mention how amazing the feeling is supporting the team at events. Highly recommend!

Class gym. First time doing martial arts and haven’t had a single issue. Couldn’t recommend elements enough (actually end up trying to convince everyone I know to join)
C. H.
Was new to martial arts but everyone, teachers and students, has been super friendly, supportive and helpful. Great team to be a part of.
D. J.
By far the friendliest MA gym I've been to with some top notch training partners and excellent, approachable coaches
J. P.
My daughter started 2months ago, very professional coaches, nice and safe environment, 10 out of 10!

You really couldn’t wish for a better place to train Jiu- Jitsu. Atmosphere-wise it’s by far one o the best places I have ever trained at. I came across Elements Martial Arts a couple years ago when I was living in Brighton and I have never felt more welcomed. The people that make the team are super friendly, and the coach Yousuf is an amazing person who has helped me when I needed help and was struggling.
Also one of the teams biggest strongsuits is the teaching system which is very organized. For me this makes it stand out amongst other BJJ gyms.
All in all, if you are thinking about joining Elements then don’t spend another second hesitating.
Cheers from Poland!

Great place. The instructor and all the people are always welcoming. An amazing gym for learning and rolling with people of all levels. I particularly admire the fundamental classes attended by all belts. The location is awesome, a lot of mat space and equipment for fighting sports. The gym is spotless, a nice place to learn, to roll, to have fun and to chill. Once again, I really recommend this place: don't miss it.
J. S.
I've been training at Elements for about 3 weeks now and it's just superb. The instructors and staff are all excellent and the gym itself is big, airy and spotless. There's a great atmosphere about the place and the other members are all friendly and welcoming. There's a massive timetable of classes on offer so if you're on a tight schedule with work, young family etc. then you'll always find a training session to suit you. Ace.
A. M.
Fantastic coaching and students. Great supportive, calm vibe and true technical knowledge. By far the best in Brighton.
Head coach Yousuf and team are very friendly, approachable and fun.
The higher grade belts are always supportive. You will feel safe when rolling with other belts as there is constant oversight from the higher grades.
Would definitely recommend.10/10
J. C.
The standard of teaching and quality of the instructors are phenomenal, the place is super clean and light, but the thing that stands out the most is the positive, friendly and supportive atmosphere at the gym, as well as the sense of community between all the people who go to elements. I couldn't recommend this place enough , and especially for beginners who are thinking of trying BJJ and grappling. It's a genuinely awesome community to be a part of.
O. J.
Elements is an amazing place to train at, brilliant atmosphere and plenty of classes to choose from.
Coming to a new club from an old one makes you feel nervous as anything but soon as you walk into the gym everyone makes you feel welcome.
If you’re looking for a place to learn bjj, striking or just want to train then I’d highly recommended coming down and trying a class.
D. M.
I've been training here for 8 months now and can't recommend the place highly enough. Yousuf and the other coaches have managed to create a culture of camaraderie and positivity here that runs deep and extends to life outside of the gym. The variety and volume of classes is such good value for money and as a shift worker, being able to train morning day or night is perfect. The level of training partners is top notch with a great mix of shapes, sizes and genders of all abilities. Definitely come and try
C. B.
After recently moving to the area, I chose to visit after recommendation. I was able to have a free drop in session for a feel of the club! After that I was hook as really enjoyed it and have been a member since!
Sessions have a very good structure of teaching. It is a really nice, fun and friendly environment. But also everyone is keen to learn and develop which drives me on.
Highly recommend to everyone 👍🏻👍🏻
C. 4.
Elements is a really friendly and professional club. The facilities and cleanliness are top rate as are all the instructors. As well as the core BJJ I also really enjoy the cross training in wrestling and judo. There is a real sense of respect and camaraderie amongst the members and instructors who live up to the clubs slogan of “we are all one”
M. S.
I first started going to Elements after taking part in a white collar event. After a year and a half of living in Brighton it helped me to finally feel settled here. I've met some lovely people, I'm finally in shape, I'm constantly improving and there is a great sense of community about the place. There are no egos here and everyone is happy to learn together and have a laugh.
Great training, lots of classes, great facilities and great people.
If you're serious about learning martial arts then you could do a lot worse than a few days a week here.

This is truly a special place to train. The coaches are incredible, humble and patient, and they have created an atmosphere of cooperation where everyone seems to be doing their best to support and motivate each other to be the best that they can be. Very little ego here. It also seems to attract really good people and I have made friendships that I know I will carry with me for years to come. The place itself is always clean and well run, with good parking facilities. It's really good value for money- you will save a ton on going out etc because you will prefer going to train. OSS.

Loved it and will be back ASAP.
Having never done Jujitsu before I was brand new. The club and instructors are super friendly and welcoming to new comers. The variation of classes and the number of classes means there is always something to get involved with, and no excuses not to train!
Yousuf and the gang down at elements have done a truly awesome job of creating a great place to train and learn. With the level of expertise I cannot imagine anyone not getting value out of the classes no matter your level or abilities. I will be back soon....

Due to previous work obligations and moving from the US to England, I’ve been to loads of different gyms to train jiu jitsu. Most recently, I have been going to Elements and everyone is very welcoming, patient and tough as nails. Yousuf, our main coach is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. His style of teaching is top notch and I’m honoured to learn from him. I have felt so at home and to be a part of the team is such a great feeling. My husband and I have a 4 month old son and we have already decided to sign him up to the kids class... when he’s of age! :)

Brilliant gym with friendly coaches and a good amount high level sparing partners

I have been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for more than 7 years and have visited many different schools all over the world including the top gyms in Brazil, America and Europe. Elements Martial Arts is one of the best. The instructors are so friendly and professional. Their experince and knowledge of the sport makes the classes fun and safe. The facilities are clean and there is plenty of mat space too!
If you or you're kids are interested in starting please don't hesitate! It's a very inclusive gym that welcomes anyone from any background.
As a woman in the sport I thought it was particularly good to have a female instructor teaching the ladies only class.
Thank you Elements for always making me feel welcome!
S. A.
I trained here today, and it was the first time I've been on the mat in a long time. To say everyone was kind, would be an understatement. I was blown away by how friendly, courteous, and forthcoming everyone was today and I really look forward to going back. The facility is fantastic, a wide brightly lit space with quality mats, and excellent changing and showering facilities. A great welcome back to jujitsu!
B.
I wanted my kids to learn either BJJ or Judo as they are the most practical martial arts for self-defence and are great for boosting self-esteem. I chose the BJJ classes at Elements because of the class structure, times, location and perhaps most importantly the ethos of the club. Whilst there is clearly a commercial element to the club, this is clearly not the main driver and unlike some other martial arts franchises, the kids are not pushed through a continuous cycle of gradings with fees attached.
The coaches are really encouraging and the environment is warm and friendly. I have enjoyed watching my children learn the practical skills BJJ offers as well as develop and grow in personal confidence. I would recommend the club to anyone looking to learn a martial art.
M. B.
Trained here for 2 years and though i've only had the odd session at other gyms I realise how good this place is.
Hilarious that there are reviews saying the coaches are not trained. Head coach is competing at Polaris (if you're new to BJJ check it out). Many British champions amongst the other coaches which speaks for itself.
The best thing about elements is the atmosphere. The focus is on learning and working as a team. There is a healthy competition team (which is totally optional). Last British open they took 9 gold medals across all belts so I suppose the techniques must work pretty well.
There probably are cheaper places to train, but you get what you pay for and there is a free trial too so come see for yourself.
Free sessions for experienced BJJ guys too which is great because we have people visiting from around the world and see some new techniques and styles.

Both my children train with elements after doing muay Thai for a year we moved them here a year ago and they couldn’t be happier, staff are amazing they’ve learnt so much! Would highly recommend! Very friendly and welcoming group. My eldest who has been going the longest has grown in confidence and technical ability. His progress is growing I’m excited to see what his future holds at elements.
M. S.
Amazing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym, very clean environment and mats. Everyone is friendly and the instructors Yousef and Chris have been very supportive helping me learn everything step by step, definitely the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in Brighton.
W. L.
I trained in elements a year already, for the beginner it is a Comfortable place to practice the foundation of Jiu Jitsu and Martial art . For the instructor they show their Quality not only in skill and technic also giving respect and passion⋯the people I met in here were really friendly, and giving me motivation to train every week. For the development of the gym now, they have 2 different location , it much more convenient for me to focus what I want to train .
M. K.
Best dojo I've ever been with the best coach. Not to mention the super friendly training partners. Absolutely recommended!
Update after a few years:
I want everybody to experience what is like to be part of this family and to see how your whole life is changing as you become more and more humble. I believe that if you can cope with BJJ there won't be many surprises in life.
A. J.
Fantastic bjj community, amazing instructors and great atmosphere for learning and sharing. As someone coming into BJJ quite late (41) I was initially a bit hesitant but Elements has been brilliant. Yousuf and the other instructors (as well as everyone that I’ve rolled with) have made me feel safe, confident and supported. All of the classes are well organised, enjoyable, challenging (in a good way) and the quality of the teaching is incredible. Can’t recommend highly enough. AJ

Attending any dojo can be an intimidating experience especially when you are a beginner. But since I joined three weeks ago I’ve been really impressed.
The approachable friendly nature of all the coaches here has created a real positive vibe amongst the students.
The flexible timetable is really convenient when other things in life get in the way. So if I am absent for my usual evening class then I can try to compensate by attending the morning class (and vice versa).
Facilities are kept really clean and parking is available during the the early morning and late evening classes.
Learning how to defend yourself is a skill most people should learn and this dojo is an amazing place to achieve that goal.
M. R.
My two kids have been part of this club for a few years even before it moved to its new location. . .it has always been a fun way to get fit, learn a good discipline and give them confidence in themselves. They are now very fit and always raring to go, and they would happily attend classes every day of the week if they could! The kids classes are really well organized even when they are at their busiest and there is always a good ratio of adults there so that kids do not end up in a disorganized heap. My boys are now both competing and it is really good to see the sense of achievement they get from all the hard work that the club has put into them and the support that they get from everyone at the club.
N. Y.
I have been taking my 2 boys to Elements for nearly 3 years now, had a couple of classes myself as well and can honestly say it’s a fantastic club with a great spirit around the place. I’ve genuinely never seen the boys finish a class without a huge smile on their faces.
Awesome coaches and a great venue. Seriously couldn’t ask for more!
N. C.
Welcoming and inclusive teachers and students. Top rate training tailored to individual needs. Kids classes have built confidence, coordination, self awareness, skill and ability in our little boy. All practiced with safety and encouragement. He has made friends and is part of a local community with so much to offer. Highly, highly recommend to any parent for their child.
D. A.
Elements is a fantastic place to learn BJJ. My son Tom really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. No doubt he will return next year. It has helped him with confidence and is a great for self defense.
J. B.
I was waiting for the women's only classes to start at Elements as I didn't know what to expect and I'd previously had a negative experience training a different martial art elsewhere, and was encouraged to come and try a fundamentals class. Well I wish I'd started much sooner!! It's a great place with tons of helpful, positive, friendly men and women. I don't feel like there's any ego or negativity, just people helping each other learn in a supportive environment. It's challenging as everyone works really hard, but there's no pressure and you can enjoy it as a hobby or something more if you want to compete. It's great having such a variety of people to partner with. If you've any doubt as to whether to start, just do it!
R. J. F. P. B.
This place changed my life. I can't thank the coaches and community there enough because it has helped me so much personally, and because I think there are many ways that this community could help other people in various ways. So welcoming, so rewarding, great for exercise, learning an art, developing character, confronting your ego and understanding that by losing you learn, and that this is very important. It's winning and learning and everyone is on their own journey. I'm officially addicted, and what a great thing to be addicted to.
p. w.
Fantastic training facility; large mat area, changing and seperate shower etc. The coaches are first class; attention to detail is given in every instruction and they are friendly, patient and approachable. The schedule will suit people who work fixed office hours as well as shiftwork. In general there is a family friendly atmophere all the time and that is due to the coaches and members. My 8 year old son and I both train here. If you are thinking to train here or enrole your children, I would thoroughly recommend just going down and see it for yourself.
n. c.
My son has been taking the kidsbjj classes for almost 2 years now. He loves it. The instructors create a friendly and welcoming environment to learn in. All of the kids have a lot of fun and importantly learn alot from their teachers.
I also train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu alot with the adults and can say that the teaching standard is very high level. Everyone that trains there is very nice,we train hard but like to have a laugh too .It really does feel like being part of a family.
Of course i am going to say it is a good place to train as both myself and my son go there but don't take my word for it come down and try a class.Come and see for yourself what Elements martial arts is like.
O. L.
Elements is an amazing place to train jiujitsu but more than that it's a great place to learn self defence, get in to good shape and meet new like minded people.
The gym itself is always clean and professional and has a comprehensive timetable.
Also a great spread of different class possibilities like MMA, K1, Boxing, Yoga, wrestling and Judo.
Can recommend Elements martial arts to anyone regardless of how far along the BJJ journey you are.
C. S.
Everyone is so nice and generous with their time - it’s a cliche but the club genuinely has a family atmosphere and so many talented coaches and members: you will learn here!
If you want to train in this part of the world there couldn’t be a better place; I’d give 6 stars if I could.
J. P.
Starting BJJ in general is something that I'd recommend to almost anybody and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather do that than Elements. Specific reasons would be because it's safe, friendly, clean, inclusive and a great facility in terms of quality and space
W. p.
I have been training in martial arts for 10 years, in that time have experienced many dojos and teachers. Elements martial arts is by far one of the best, A place of considered people training to better themselves through martial arts. From my first class I was welcomed and quickly felt part of the team, the instruction is detailed and of high quality, The instructors train as hard as the students and lead by example. A place where respect, technique, learning and patience seem to be the more important thing than winning! its places like this that put the art in martial arts.
M. A.
Firstly, Elements is a great place to learn Jiu Jitsu, Yousuf and the other instructors’ tuition is top shelf material, they give time and thought to everyone who puts the effort in - not just the naturally talented!
But the gym is also well run, the amply sized mats are regularly cleaned to within an inch of their life and there is a tonne of classes. For me, what is really important is that Jiu Jitsu is a demanding pastime, and sometimes when you are tired after long day and making excuses not to go down, I often end up training anyway, as I know, it’s going to be a bit of fun.
M. K.
I’ve trained at several bjj schools both here in Brighton and in America and I have found Elements to be the most clean, technical, and friendly club I have trained at. The facility is unbelievably state-of-the-art and has massive mat space, showers, takedown mats, heavybags, etc.
Don’t let all the smiles and laughing fool you, the jiu jitsu is top notch, and the head professor Yousuf Nabi will literally spend as much time with you as you need helping you get your technique perfect. He’s a really friendly guy and has got a real big passion for teaching (if you’ve been to other bjj schools around the world you know that can be rare) and is himself an avid competitor (he’s in Polaris 7 this year), which means a lot of his technique is completely up-to-date and useful in the competition circuit. And if he’s busy with another student then there are 3-4 other black belts and loads of tremendously qualified brown belts on hand that have helped me loads with my jiu-jitsu.
Finally you’ll find all your training partners quickly becoming some of your best mates because it’s hard to spend every evening simulating murder on one another without becoming friends lol. Group hang outs and dinners are a regular occurrence outside of the gym and the gang regularly descends upon nearby competitions to thrash everyone and take Home gold.
Really chuffed with this place, absolute hidden gem.
P. H.
For women, this is a great place to try out Self Defence, with regular women's courses running, and as an intro to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). There are popular kids classes with Mat Monkeys for the little ones and tween and teen classes for youngsters to progress through until they join the adult classes. The kids and adults classes are mixed, which keeps a good level of co-operation and mutual respect. No big egos here! There is a really packed timetable so you'll be able to find a daytime, evening or weekend session that fits with your lifestyle. It's a very welcoming, clean and professional centre, and BJJ is a great journey for the mind and the body. There are serious competitors at Elements and there are recreational rollers. I started when I was 45 and I can't imagine life without it. It is a great way to get really fit, grow yourself, offset the daily grind of life and have lots of fun. Give it a go, you'll be so glad you did!
n. S.
Very welcoming for beginners and experienced people alike. There is also a huge range of training classes running throughout the day which makes it very easy to attend classes regularly no matter what your work schedule looks like
A. K.
Great place to train. Great atmosphere and great instructors.
T. E.
I’m going to reiterate how great Elements is. There have been loads of false reviews to primarily lie about how “bad” this establishment is. I find it disheartening and pathetic some people would blatantly make stuff up just to ruin a business’s reputation. Don’t believe the 1 stars and negative comments! They are simply NOT true. Yousuf (the owner) and everyone working at this gym are all very qualified and extremely great at their job.
D. B.
Great gym for BJJ & Martial Arts, a real friendly family atmosphere! Great coaches and perfect for anyone looking to start/train BJJ! I highly recommend!
J. N. M.
Yousuf is a fantastic example of a high level black belt and highly recommend him to beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Elements is a well run BJJ Academy with great facilities. Don't miss the opportunity to train with them!
Y. R.
started training with elements in 2009, we moved about frw places hiring gyms to start until we found the perfect premises, well run by educated fully qualified tutor, the team is super friendly and the members are very respectfull and down to earth, i moved away recently but still pop in regularly as a guest the place keep on improving and the organisation is at it's peak every time. good vibes all around 👌👌👌👌
D. S.
Elements is a martial arts school that offers top quality training by instructors who genuinely have a deep understanding, and it's also clean, appropriately priced and is a friendly and welcoming... plus there are several absolute killers on the mats!
J. L.
Great instructors, positive and motivating atmosphere, and some of the best people I've ever met. Very professional, clean and welcoming. Couldn't have asked for a better place to train.
c. y.
All the reviews say exactly what this club does (except for the single negative review which must be a joke). On a personally level the coaches and the club members have made it such a pleasure not just for me but also my 8 year old son to train in such a amazing sport. 😁
L. M.
An amazing place to train, have been here for 1 year now and have learnt so much. Everyone is friendly and wants to help you develop whether you are training fitness, self defence or competition BJJ, this is the place to be.
E. K.
Fundamentals class today was awesome! As a first timer, I was walking in not expecting much but walked out feeling like I could at least partially defend myself. Elements really delivered a lasting impression and everything was done with the utmost respect, kindness and proper techniques to avoid injuring yourself or your partner. Thank you!
S. S. S.
A friendly, welcoming, community minded, competent and hard working bunch of people in an awesome space. It’s like my second home. I have trained in quite a few gyms and this is my favourite by far.
R. N.
Having experienced training elsewhere I have always values Elements much higher, and would recommend to anyone. The instructors are excellent and there is a friendly yet competitive environment.
N. L.
I visited Elements Martial Arts and got a free week. I really enjoyed it since the instructors and the students are very friendly, humble people with an incredibly high level jiu jitsu. I can only recommend it to everyone.

This is a fantastic place to learn martial arts, I’ve found the facilities and timetable second to none with a very busy work schedule I can always find a slot in the week to come and train.
Everyone is super friendly.

Visited from with my coach from Checkmat Surrey/Reigate Martial Arts.. Elements was a lovely, welcoming gym with a great family vibe. Everyone we met were top notch people and monsters on the mat. Yousuf is the man, cheers guys!
L. W.
Yousuf is a top coach & competes at a high level. From beginner to advanced he has alot to offer. His brother is also very good. Looking forward to visiting for training in a few months.

If you want a place to train with a friendly atmosphere but also to get in shape or to train hard then this is the place! Full of the best people I've met. 100% would recommend
I. M.
Felt right at home straight away.
Top class coaches and training partners.
Recommend to anyone who wants to take their BJJ to the next level

Went today for the first time as i couldnt attend my usual weekly class in lewes. Really impressed with the facilities from the beginning. Staff are knowledgable and friendly, as are the students with a great attitude throughout the lesson
M. B.
The environment is welcoming and friendly, but also very professional. I've tried a few different combat sport classes and this my favourite one so far.
D. B.
