My son has been very happy learning bass with James for the last 3 years. He has made excellent progress and got some great exam results as well as having a sound musical basis in a variety of styles. Would highly recommend.

I've been having bass lessons with James for over a year now and it's been a great experience. Rather than some other music teachers I've had in the past James tailors his lessons to you rather than others who might just put you through the grinder. His musical knowledge is incredibly impressive and has certainly helped my musical knowledge.
I cannot recommend Bristol Music Lessons enough as it has exponentially improved my playing.

James is a campaigner for theory-in-practice, so you don't feel bogged down, his lessons trip along, he has lots of playing experience and a broad appreciation of styles. His recommendation of colleague teacher, George, has also been really positive for my daughter (7). Only good things to say about these guys. Thumbs up!

I cannot recommend James enough as a bass instructor. He makes his lessons fun whilst still sneaking in the theory. As a mature student, I thought I'd find it hard to learn later on in life, however I'm doing better than I thought and I put a lot of this down to his encouragement and his flexible approach to teaching.
I'm often inclined to just want to learn a new song or riff by ear or tabs and not learn the notes but James will always ensure that he provides all of the information when he writes out a song. He's even quizzed me on major and minor notes (of which I got most correct so some theory must be sinking in!).
It's also handy that he plays guitar as its good for my progress to practice with other musicians early on.
I have already raved about him to anyone who will listen and will continue to talk him up in the future.

My son has been enjoying lessons with James B for a year now, and is working towards his Grade 1. He started guitar with an acoustic, and was learning at school, and found the teaching dull. He was dangerously on the edge of ditching guitar altogether and considered taking up the recorder! but luckily James has enthused him to stick with the guitar but the electric guitar this time...which is way cooler he thinks!

My children, ages 10 & 11 are very happy with their tutor George who is punctual, friendly and encouraging. Both he and James are extremely helpful and accomodating in every aspect of the classes, and helped us source our instruments too.

Joe has renewed a great interest in the guitar for my 10 year old son. He is taking my son’s lead and teaching him the music he wants to play. Would definitely recommend as we would definitely recommend James Burgess too. Joe is reliable, communicative and very friendly and our son is thriving.

James Burgess is a top musician and a really intuitive teacher... he picks out your strengths and interests and works with them, regardless of the ability you have.
