Rob is a great teacher and a lovely guy, very knowledgeable and talented at all things BJJ and someone I would call a friend. He has great coaches under him in Ken and Tom and the club is full of awesome, friendly people. Joining changed a lot in my life for the better plus I made lots of new friends too. I've seen the kids classes and they are great. As someone with 17 years of in experience education, from primary school all the way up to secondary, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the club to anyone looking for a place for their kids to train and build their self confidence.

I've been training with Rob at Rob Taylor BJJ for over 4 years, and have found it excellent. As a multiple black belt British Champion you learn techniques from Rob that have been proven to work against the highest quality opponents. He's also very friendly and is great with the kids (my son trains here too).

Can honestly say there’s no better place to train ! The kids classes are full, both my sons train 4 and 8! They have made countless friends on the mats and were made welcome the second they stepped on into the Acadamey. I also now train there myself and it’s a great place with great people can’t rate it highly enough 5 stars 👌🏻

Starting anything new can be daunting for many let alone learning Martial Arts, self defence or Combat sports, but Rob and his Coaching Team are absolutely quality, A personable and patient informative Coaching Team, the Academy is set up for EVERYONE of different size, age and any ability! never have I felt so welcome from the Team to our members. A cracking environment to meet new people while improving your health, your mental well-being, improve your confidence as well as learning something that can genuinely help protect yourself, with everyone trying to be better than we were yesterday. My son absolutely loves coming here and the instruction from Rob, Tom and the other members Is absolutely incredible. They show great leadership and create such a positive environment for children of all ages and experiences to learn and develop. Whenever a child is called up for a promotion the words that are said about them is so motivating. Each time they also recognise everyone that hasn’t yet been promoted making sure they know that with continued effort and just doing their best they are helping themselves and others get to the next level. The toilet is always clean The mat area is massive and cleaned after every class. I always see Rob and the other coaches sweeping then spraying the mats. The classes have awesome structure and detail. Rob and the other coaches always have time to break things and show them in an understandable way. Personally I’ve always been an individual competitor- but here there is a team. Coaches show me new stuff they are working on, show me what the think I should work on to improve and are always willing to answer my question and show me things (unless it’s regarding the buggy choke) The toilet often sparkles ✨

When I moved to Cardiff last year, I was eager to resume training BJJ after almost two years away from the mats due to the pandemic. I wanted to try a few gyms before deciding on which one to pick. The Rob Taylor Jiu Jitsu Academy was the first place I went to try out (based on the positive reviews) and after my first session, I signed up and did not bother looking elsewhere. It wasn't only the top-notch teaching that impressed me, it was the friendly and positive atmosphere at the academy and how everyone made me feel welcome right away. As head coach, Rob is a brilliant instructor with a wealth of experience who cares about the development of his students and he is supported by an equally brilliant team of assistant coaches (Tom, Ken, Ryan, Dan) who help with the coaching. There is also wrestling which is run by Sohail who is superb. I highly recommend this academy for training.

Rob himself is one of the most accomplished black belts in Wales with competition wins at national and European levels. His extensive experience within the sport is reflected in his meticulous approach to coaching.

Amazing academy, great tuition from every coach ranging from the kids classes to the adults. The atmosphere is always positive and an awesome place to train if you have the mindset to learn and improve your Jiu Jitsu. I live a little outside of Cardiff and when COVID's local lockdown was introduced preventing travel to other cities I took a few classes in an BJJ academy around the corner from me. As soon as the restrictions were lifted I was back traveling to Cardiff to train a Robs Academy 2+ times a week and I am still making the commute! Great place to train! 🤛

Have trained at RTJJ for a year now, having never trained before. Rob and all at the academy have been welcoming and patient since day one, so much so that I brought along my 5 and 9 year old who now beg me to train 4 days a week. Would recommend to anyone.

Had never done any jiujitsu before coming to RTJJ but Rob and all the coaches made me feel welcome and are all outstanding teachers. I’ve played sports all my life and can say the level of coaching is as good as I’ve seen anywhere. Along with the high-level coaching, the gym remains a really welcoming environment, made up of people from all backgrounds. More casual members are given just as much attention by the coaches as the competitive members who medal at national level competitions. I’ve played team sports which feel less like a team than RTJJ.

As a women that trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I can’t recommended Rob Taylor’s enough. It’s certainly not easy being out numbered by men, but after training somewhere else before hand, I found Rob Taylor’s to be the most comforting and welcoming to women, which I think is really important when choosing a martial art. There’s even a box of tampons in the toilet! :) It just makes you feel very welcome from the moment you walk in. I’ve been training here now for over 3 years and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. If you are a women reading this I highly recommended Rob Taylor’s academy to any others in Cardiff. Rob is an excellent, super skilled, patient teacher & everyone at the academy is so willing to help & friendly!

Best bjj gym around. Definitely worth trying. The coaching staff are top level instructors with high bjj IQ’s and are super friendly and welcoming people which is the polar opposite to what you would expect. It can be intimidating walking into a new gym but everyone from the instructors to the students are friendly and helpful. Not only have I fallen in love with a new sport I feel like Iv made loads of new friends.

I've been to a few bjj academies since starting jiu-jitsu 4.5 years ago and have been at RT jj academy for justnover a year. Rtjj academy is an awesome place for kids and adults looking to develop martial arts skills, get fit, build confidence, and have fun. Prof Rob is a black belt under the world famous champion Braulio Estima who visited the academy last month so theres a guarantee that he and the techniques he teaches are legit, unlike some other academies, unfortunately. The bad reviews left by others here in the review section come from other 'martial art academies' that promote fake, untested, and down right ridiculous self defence techniques (thai chi, akido and the like) that if used in a real life situations would end terribly for the person attempting to use them. There's a reason real mma competitors use bjj and not aikido when fighting professionally. Rob has called these people out online because what they teach is dangerous and stupid and they have spam reviewed his academy. So please ignore the 1 star reviews and read the reviews from people who have actually been to the academy. 5 stars 💪oss

Before I moved down to Cardiff I had tried a few academies but none come close to RTJJ; this is the place to train in Cardiff. If you do decide to train here, you have fantastic coaches who will share a wealth of knowledge with you. RTJJ is also the most welcoming and friendly academy I've found, no matter what size or shape you are nor level.
