I have been with the academy for more than a year now and I am absolutely loving it. If I had the time, I would be there 7 days a week. All the instructors are highly qualified, very knowledgeable and most importantly, very friendly and helpful. All the members who train in the academy are also very helpful and fun to learn from and with. Most of the instructors are Black Belts in more than one discipline of MA and is always a good opportunity to learn or just be exposed to different forms.
I would definitely recommend Laurence Sandum's Black Belt Martial Arts Academy for anyone who is interested in MA, want to get fit or just learn something new.

I have been training here several times a week for over 3 years now in four of the many arts offered here and thanks to the patience and dedication of the instructors have so far achieved black belt in one art and hope to achieve black belt in two of the other arts this year. I can honestly say I love every second I spend here, the atmosphere of the whole place is so inviting and friendly and everyone from the highest instructor to the newest member wants to help you progress to the best of your ability. It really is at great place to train and more recently I'm enjoying repaying my training by helping out with the kids classes

I would highly recommend this academy to anyone, any age or fitness level. I've been training here since May 2011, firstly in Jun Fan and Kali and more recently Gracie Jiu Jitsu, and in that time my confidence has improved and I've lost over 15kg in weight - unexpected bonus! The instructors are enthusiastic and very skilled, and the students are friendly and fun to train with. What is brilliant is that as well as the classes, they regularly host seminars in different arts bringing in world class trainers from all over the world, who you just wouldn't get the opportunity to learn from otherwise.
Highly recommended! :)

Laurence Sandum's academy offers a friendly and professional tuition manner from all of its highly qualified instructors. My initial impressions after joining were confirmed just after a few lessons. Having studied some various arts beforehand it was a breath of fresh air to finally find a dedicated academy that prides itself on reputation and quality instruction.
Here gradings are not given out they are earn't with hard work and dedication. This ensures that once you reach your targets you can be confident in your own abilities which ensures the development of confidence, increased self esteem and physical fitness.
My seven year old son is also a member, he has gained benefit from increased concentration in his school work, self discipline and respect for his peers and teachers alike. This includes the added bonus of effective self defence.
I would recommend the academy to anyone, it can offer not just professional martial arts tuition but also the practical application of positive mind set and attitude that can be applied to everyday life.
I have now embarked on my Certified Instructors training course with the academy and look forward to giving something back in the future.

Signed my 8 year old daughter up for classes a year ago and she's loved every minute of her experience.
From day one when we came for a free intro she was treated like an adult and was made to feel very welcome by the reception staff. Seen to very quickly and not kept waiting around, she felt completely at ease in her intro with Laurence and he made sure he found a class most suitable for her. I love the fact that their is a uniform rather than bring your own clothes. Completely cuts out any risk of 'bullying the kid that is wearing hand me downs' or looks any different to other students.
Classes are brilliant! There is always someone my childs level that she can partner up with and classes are never too crowded. Graham is absolutely amazing with the kids and always ensures that they are on their best behavior and are always learning something new each week as well as making sure there is a fun element to keep their interest. Unlike many instructors in other clubs Graham also steps in if there is ever an odd number in class to a child is never made to feel left out. Just a note, badges are FREE and are handed out every now and again in the classes when Graham feels the kids have most improved and deserve them. Since beginning she's taken part in multiple gradings and is currently working hard studying the syllabus towards her next belt.
As for the contracts/payments, you get what you pay for! If you want to cut corners, be cheap and pay £2 a class then go elsewhere and not be given the true Martial Arts experience that your kids deserve. Not quite sure what the other reviewers are on but all contracts CLEARLY state the duration before you sign (twice) on the dotted line. The option for a month by month contract with a 31 days cancellation policy is there so if you don't think your kids are going to be committed for 12 months or you think that you are aren't going to be able to afford 12 months then why sign a contract for 12 months? You don't just cancel your Sky+ membership just because you don't like what's on TV so why would any other contract be different?
On another note I think it is great that I also have the option of using the gym which joins onto the dojo or sitting in the adjoining hairdressers in the warm whilst my child is in class. Saves a whole lot of petrol running to and from the place and passes the time.
Have recommended the Academy many times in the past and been rewarded for my referrals and will continue to do so. There's a reason why this Academy has been around for many many many years under the same management, do your research!

I have trained at Laurence Sandum's Black Belt martial arts for two years now, as well as training there for a year when I was younger.
I have always found the instructors to be very helpful, and friendly. I think that there is a good atmosphere in the various martial arts classes, regardless of your skill level. (I currently train BJJ, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Judo and MMA).
