I have been spending lot of time writing this feedback, simply because I just didn't want to close this unforgettable experience I had in ESL. I spent a great month in this school with nice people and can only recommend it. First I came into the class I was surprised by a small group but soon I found out it was a big advantage. Luke, the teacher who is really objective and enjoys the teaching, approaches everyone individually and I really appreciate it. If you want to know other international people's cultures (and their typical food 😃), have fun in classes and improve your English level, join ESL! Luke, I will really miss the everyday question: 'What's on the news?'

My experience in Edinburgh was incredible from the first moment. Luke and my classmates made the classes very enjoyable and dynamic and I felt welcomed from the very beginning. The groups are very small (4-6 people) and the lessons are focused on improving your level. If you need a certificate, Luke will provide a lot of material adjusted to your needs. Although, it is also important that you work hard everyday. My stay was wonderful and one thing to highlight about the academy is the debates that are generated about current issues. Luke always encourages the students talk and the atmosphere invite you to do it. I have to say that sharing opinions in another language that is not your mother tongue is very enriching and it has helped me immensely to get my certificate. Without a doubt, this is one of the best places to learn and enjoy the english language.

I was in Edinburgh for 1 month (in summer) and I was looking for an intensive English School. I found ESL because it was near my home y because the price was fear. When I asked for some questions about the course, Luke (one of the teachers) was very kind and he help to resolve my doubts. The class is made up of small groups (around 6), in mi opinion it is fantastic because it is easier to listen, interact and have more personal and detailed learning. The teacher’s way of teaching is very dynamic, and it is perfect for talking, if you are looking for conversation, this is your place. Also, Luke (the teacher) is very lovely, kind, funny and very good teacher, he loves his job and it shows when he teaches. Of course, I recommend this School to everyone, if you are in doubt, you just have to call them and they will assist you wonderfully!

A great place to improve your English. A teacher and journalist, always bringing interesting subjects to classes. With a lot of knowledge to share. I made friends and "unlocked" English. Luke is a vocational teacher, extremely interesting, and an approchable person who will suggest many ways to improve your skills as well. Thanks to effective personalised methods and a good support from Luke I managed to success in the IELTS exam (7 average) in barely 3 months. I had some wonderful moments there, whether with Luke or with the other students who kindly welcomed me and made me confortable from my first day at school. I attended this school twice a week for a month and it was a fantastic experience! The class is composed of no more than six people, exercises are carried out together (you will learn grammar and vocables), but above all there is a lot of talk (it almost seems like a class of debate), in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It’s absolutely impossible to feel uncomfortable. Note of merit for the professor, Luke, cultured, kind and one of the most interesting person I have ever met. I studied at the Edinburgh School of Language for 5 months and the experience was amazing! The class size is small (in my case, it never exceeded 4 students) and the teacher makes the classes really interesting with a lot of discussion (which improved my Speaking skills) and the feedback I got from him made me reach my goal, which was to pass the CPE. But for his help, I would have not succeeded in this exam. Recommended!

I really enjoyed Luke's lessons. Classes are from 4 to 6 students maximum. I liked my class (pre-intermediate level) but I preferred the upper level classes because we had a lot of interactions and the atmosphere was very family. It was really fun and interesting to exchange with other people. The students of this school are really interesting and each has their own personality. We study without taking the lead and we see real progress in the fluidity of conversations. The only "negative" point in my opinion, and the fact that we correct our homework very quickly.. However, thank you soo much, once again, Luke !! And goooooooood luck to you and your many travel plans ! ;)

I couldn't think of a better course and a better teacher than what I've found in this school. I took a 3 months course to mainly prepare the IELTS which I passed succesfully thanks to the great preparation Luke, our teacher, gave me. Luke is an incredible teacher, I enjoyed every lessons with him. Lessons are not based on English grammar only, they are also a way to improve your speaking and listening discussing topics of every kind. My English has improved a lot, especially my writing skills . I really have to thank Luke for that. It was absolutely worth it!

As a Frenchman, English has always been one of my greatest enemies and a total nightmare. When I came for the first time at the Edinburgh School of Language, it was just about learning , and it finally became one of my most memorable experiences. Luke is more than a teacher, he is a mentor. He won't simply teach you grammar, and vocabulary (even if it is an important part of the schedule) but he will develop your open-mindedness and your culture. Thanks to him, you will discover English is not just a theoric language but a living passion. His way of teaching is more efficient in 2 months than 3 years in a traditionnal programme. Groups are small and friendly, you will progress while having fun and prepare yourself for "What on the news": the famous moment where you will express your opinion about world events! Luke is able to adapt to your level and needs, always with empathy and demanding nature. To conclude, I couldn't recommend this school more and thanks to Luke I just passed my CAE with C2 level in writing and speaking, only in 3 months. May you enjoy your future lessons as I enjoyed mine!

I’ve been attending this school for 4 months and, believe me, it is worth both money and time! I wanted to improve my level of English and I completely achieved the goal. I’m still waiting for my Ielts results but I’m very confident thanks to the excellent preparation that Luke gave me. He is an extremely competent and professional teacher and more importantly, there will always be time for friendly chats and some laughs. There’s a maximum of 6/7 people for class so that everyone can be followed properly. The amount of exercises in class and at home is massive: an improvement will appear for sure! 5 stars out of 5!

I had never taken English classes abroad but it was a great experience. I was teaching for 3 weeks from Monday to Friday and despite the short time I learned a lot. The teacher from the beginning made me feel comfortable and cozy even though I was away from home. You meet new people and they are very pleasant classes with a lot of conversation. Before this course my English was really bad but I was curious,so I decided to book a month and try it...Just after two weeks my level increased surprisingly in every aspect because this course is really well organised! The teacher is both friendly and meticulous (which is a good thing if you want to really improve). Having spent almost 3 months in Luke's classes, I have to say that it was very hard to leave. Not only did I improve my English but also I became more aware of my common mistakes and in turn being able to correct them. Here you will learn and improve your English for sure, and you will also gain fluency, confidence and knowledge. Luke always makes sure every class is different to the previous one and in addition he is very flexible and able to adapt to the students needs and push them when he considers it necessary. If I had to study English again, I would not doubt to go back there. Miss both the classes and Luke loads. Thanks for everything :)

I am just saying that I started the course with a intermediate English level but with a lower speaking level and only last week I did Toefl exam and I have an score of 95/120 which is a great achievement for me. It is a nice and a comfortable academy, with no more than 8 people per session. That helped me get confidence and learn easier. Luke, the tutor, is a very nice, energetic and funny journalist who not only is going to teach you English but will ask you every day 'what's on the news'. A great experience ! A real way to learn English based on different techniques that lead you to achieve whatever you are determined to. In my case, from zero to almost "hero", doing the FCE exam and then the CAE in just 9 months of classes. No tips, just hard work and follow Luke´s advice, as his experience is an evidence and it will enhance your confident in this language. I've been studying here for 6 months and I have to say that I really improved my English. There is not a programme to follow or a single book with plenty of exercises. Instead of that, the lessons change depending on the necessity of the group and they give you personalised material to work with at home. If you really want to improve your English and work for it they will help you as much as they can. They use a different way to teach and it works. After studying here I got the certificate I was looking for. I really recommend this place.
