Reviews of Shotokan Karate Kirkintilloch - Zanshin Kai

I started training at Zanshin Kai on Easter Sunday 1997 and have been an admirer of the clubs attitude to all aspects of karate and the open nature of the instructors and students since. No forced monthly contracts, no 2 year black belt program for kids, just clear, consistent training based around 35 years of getting better with the best Karate Instructors / Martial artists in the world. Still eating those crisps?

My karate career started as a way to keep fit during winter for cycling in the summer. My then 7 year old son wanted to give it a try and I thought I could keep him company. 15 years later I'm still at it and the whole family is now involved.
So yes I enjoy it (a lot!) but it's also the atmosphere in the club, the friendliness of it, and the fact that adults can train at the same time as their kids that has made this the thing that we stick at.

Started Karate at the age of 16 and was hooked right away, after 7 years of training had to give it up due to a location and life change. 27 years later a Karate club started in my local village who were students of Sensei Davis. Although it was a small class i could see the enthusiasm for Karate.
Thanks to Sensei Davis, Glen, Bell, Loney and all at Zanshin Kai 5 years after joining I made it to 1st Dan and still have the hunger for another one.
Great club, great people what more can be said.

I can't speak highly enough of Zanshin Kai. The members span a wide range of ages and abilities, from absolute beginners to some exceptionally experienced martial artists. Everyone is made welcome and solid friendships are made. Whether you just want to get fit, pick up a new skill, learn self defense or just get out of the house and do something, the Zanshin Kai family will welcome you.

Zanshin kai is a fantastic karate club. Kenny is a great teacher and has tons of knowledge. Loads of talented students and they are very friendly. If you're looking to take up karate, weather it may be for getting fit, self defence or as a way of life, Zanshin kai is the right club for you.

I started training with Zanshin Kai 10 years ago with my husband and sons, then aged 6 and 11. I had never done any martial arts and didn't have high expectations of myself, as a middle-aged unfit woman. I'm now a black belt (1st Dan) my sons have both graded to 2nd Dan and my husband is a 4th Dan. I'm so proud of them all.
All of the teachers (sensei) are excellent, challenging and encouraging as necessary. The club is wonderful for families and gives a great chance to have fun with your kids, whatever age they are. Lots of parents bring their kids along and end up joining in enthusiastically. I'm no athlete, but training really helped me regain my figure after the kids came along. We train with McRae at the Lennoxtown sessions twice a week. The friendliness and welcome of all of the clubs is a real hallmark of Zanshin Kai.

Zanshin Kai is one of the top Karate clubs in Scotland. The quality of the instruction is second to none. Although every student is taught to an extremely high technical standard, and (progressively, over time) taught to deconstruct and develop their own critical approach to the art, there is a friendly, collegiate, laid back spirit and atmosphere which is, frankly, altogether rare in today's martial arts clubs.I have something approaching 30 years experience in various martial arts and simply can't recommend the approach of Kenny Davis Kyoshi (and his longstanding colleagues Sensei Loney, Marshall and Cousland, and all the other instructors and senior students) highly enough.

I started training with Zanshin Kai around 2001 and can't recommend this club enough. The club is friendly and relaxed and everyone is treated as an equal.
All the Sensei's have great enthusiasm for training and are inspired teachers.
Come along, you won't regret it.

I joined the club last year and am happy to say I made the best decision. It has helped me with my self confidence and fitness. My husband and four kids also attend. The sensei's are extremely knowledgable and friendly as are all the members.

This karate club has more body than a Domaine Romanée-Conti 1962, more poise than a piano concerto by Chopin, more complexity than Hegel and Confucius combined; it offers more truth than the Sermon on the Mount, inspires more devotion than Martin Luther King. This karate club will cause you pain, and through that pain you will find grace. With a votive offering of sweat, you’ll trade your time for knowledge. This karate club is not a slogan on a t-shirt or a jingle on the radio, it is a poem by Blake, and it will twist the sinews of your heart. This karate club is your journey into darkness; through the colours of the rainbow to the black of night. It’s no three-minute blast of plastic pop, it’s a symphony by Beethhoven, a melody by Bach. It’s a haiku by Matsuo Bashō etched into the rock of the Campsie Fells.

I've been attending this club for six years now, feels like a big family, very supportive and encouraging. Also great for self defence and confidence building.
