Reviews of Simon Clark - Piano Teacher

Simon is a very experienced, supportive and enthusiastic piano teacher. He taught our two daughters for over 5 years, taking them from new players up to very competent Grade 5/6 level players. Simon is a very reliable teacher (arriving promptly for lessons), with drive, commitment and the essential patience and sense of humour required for teaching young students! He made learning the piano a fun experience for the children, encouraging them to learn new things/pieces that were not part of the exam syllabus to broaden their experience. Simon made sure that the girls were prepared fully for all their exams (for which they obtained excellent marks) and any school performances. He also taught music theory and offered advice and support on composition and was happy to provide tuition to my husband. Simon is personable and professional; we looked forward to having him in our house to teach our children every week. We could not recommend Simon any more highly for anyone (child or adult) looking to learn the piano from beginner level through to more advanced levels, both for fun or for exams (ABRSM and Trinity) and performances. We were very sorry to lose Simon as our piano teacher when he relocated.

Our journey with Simon began in April 2017 when I was google-searching for a piano teacher (in Suffolk) for my 6-year-old daughter. Despite possessing a string of very impressive credentials, Simon has very humbly taken on board our little beginner. Simon is very patient, professional and is extremely good with my daughter - he tailor-makes the lessons to my daughter's ability and interest, and most of all, Simon makes it fun! 8 months down the line now, my daughter has recently passed her first Trinity Piano Exam with a distinction of 98%!
Simon has made music such a pleasurable enjoyment in our household. He continues to inspire my daughter and is certainly bringing out the best in her. We are very grateful to have found a gem in Ipswich and look forward to a life-long partnership with such a highly skilled musician.

Simon is an excellent teacher. My son (9 years old) greatly enjoys each lesson and always looking forward to spending more time with Simon. I don't have any music background, so it has been all down to Simon. In less than a year my son has completed his ABRSM exam grade 1 with distinction and now working towards higher grades. More importantly and exams aside, Simon has truly inspired my Son to try near songs, appreciate music and to be creative. I would highly recommend Simon.

Simon is an exceptional piano teacher. He is patient and kind and filled both my children with a real enthusiasm and love for playing the piano.
Being both an excellent pianist and a composer makes Simon a very inspiring teacher and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Simon is a great teacher. I was lucky enough have Simon as a teacher over the last 3 to 4 years. As a mature student who had last played 25 years ago and learnt originally more than 50 years ago he very quickly found out my abilities (or lack of) and took my level of playing to a standard that I never thought I would reach and gave me confidence in my abilities. I always looked forward to my lessons as Simon is very encouraging and motivational. He is a consummate pianist and is able to offer a great understanding of the pieces to be played. I already miss our lessons together and would happily recommend him very highly.

Simon taught me the piano from 2009 to the present day. I started as a nervous, self-taught adult but soon began to gain confidence and skill with Simon's gentle, encouraging approach. The lessons were always fun and something to look forward to each week. I think I have made amazing progress considering my advanced years and arthritis. Simon is easy to relate to and adapts to his pupils needs but he also sets high standards. He keeps you up to scratch! I would highly recommend him to all ages. Janet

I cannot rate Simon Clark highly enough. He took my daughter from Grade 1 to Grade 6 in just a few years. She had struggled with previous piano teachers who had not given her the encouragement she needed. From the very first lesson Simon was patient and encouraging and provided a wide variety of interesting pieces for her to play, many of which he had arranged himself - and were of exactly the right standard to stretch her without being beyond her ability. We were so sorry when he moved away from our area - as my daughter really enjoyed his weekly lessons.

Simon is a wonderfully warm and helpful teacher. He taught both my daughter and son from scratch up to grade 2. They both really enjoyed their lessons with him and were very sad when he moved away. Simon is easy to talk to and a great motivator. He manages to blend a sense of fun, enjoyment and a need to practice into his lessons.

I was lucky enough to have Simon as my piano teacher for nearly 10 years, during which time all aspects of my playing improved thanks to his guidance. Simon was always good company, as well as an excellent teacher, and was very thoughtful when it came to finding the right pieces for me to play, and at the right level. He was also very accommodating in finding music for me for pieces I was interested in learning. He gave me great encouragement and confidence and I can thoroughly recommend him as a teacher.

Simon has been a wonderful piano teacher to my 2 children. They have looked froward to his visit each week and he has got them through 2 grades with great results at the same time as keeping lessons fun. I cannot recommend lessons with Simon enough.

Simon is a natural teacher. He has the ability to connect with pupils in whichever way motivates them to learn, treating pupils as equals. Simon has worked with my son for a year and really has brought out the very best in his musical ability. I am looking forward to welcoming Simon into our home again in September!

Simon was absolutely great. He's highly skilled as a musician and a teacher. He's very patient and cheery. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her lessons and got a distinction in all her exams. We will miss him very much and recommend him highly.

I did not have the opportunity to learn the piano until after retirement, and learning a new skill is not always easy! Simon realised very quickly what would motivate and interest me, and always ensured that I was learning something new. He is unfailingly patient and encouraging, realises that life sometimes gets in the way of practice, but at the same time makes sure that students are as good as they can be. And he was always ready to adapt music that I like to my level, to make sure I was enjoying myself. An excellent teacher who makes learning fun, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Simon has taught my two sons (now aged 14 and 12) for the last three years and it has been a wonderful experience after a disastrous time with another teacher. He makes the lessons fun, he is very encouraging and both my boys wanted to do well and wanted to progress. They've both just passed Grade 5 with merit and we are all very sad to have said goodbye to Simon. Our loss is Ipswich's gain. I can't recommend Simon highly enough. Niki

Simon is a patient tutor with loads of experience. He adjusts his teaching methods to the student; I am a very mature student and he taught me with maturity and humour, but I could imagine he would be good teaching children as well as adults.

Simon has relocated so my loss is your gain.
An excellent teacher who gives a lot of thought to planning lessons and what you need to do to improve.
Expect hard work and fun.
