Reviews of Azi School Of Taiji (Tai Chi)

I’ve been enjoying learning with Yaz for the last couple of years… the class has a great atmosphere, relaxed and super friendly. Yaz is just an amazing teacher, hugely experienced and masterful - yet humble, warm-hearted, down-to-earth, hands-on with great attention to detail, and he clearly cares a lot about all the students, no matter how new they are.
If you are into martial art Tai Chi, this is probably as good as it gets. Personally, I’m less into the fighting side of his teaching (the second part of the class - once you learn ‘the form’ which can take several months to complete), but I’m still enjoying the form A LOT (which we practice twice in each class), and even the warm up. I love the combination of the graceful movements, body coordination, good workout, strengthening the core, improving my posture, balance, and the slow pace gets me into a blissful meditative state.

I started learning tai chi late as a strengthening objective to help my fencing as I had torn a knee tendon. It helped but not completely till I came across this school and was introduced to Master Yazi Liu. Within a few months my knee problems totally went away which was amazing as I had been wearing a knee strap for many years for sports.
The Zhao Bao style is very different from the Yang style I had learnt previously: fa jin or explosive power is evident throughout the form. This can only be achieved if your body is completely relaxed which is something I wanted to achieve but found difficult, so what better method for me to be challenged to relax?
I enjoy and benefit from the healthy good for body tai chi (I have not had a cold for a couple of years now) and I am now progressing to learn the more martial side. Everyone in this school is very helpful and supportive and we all train together regardless of level, experience, age, etc. The classes are always very friendly and taught in a typical traditional Chinese way. We have tea before and after class (to help us relax, so I was informed).
If you put the effort in, with time, you will be happily surprised at all the benefits that you will gain. And what about Qi Gong? The foundations are achieved in your breathing and by practising the form.
Master Yazi Liu teaches authentic tai chi: good for your health but also martial arts tai chi. This is a very rare find!

Master Liu teaches not only the expected slow moving form of taiji that is good for your health, but also the martial side of taiji that is not commonly taught or know by most teachers. Including push hands and applications, but additionally throws, joint locks and striking. All Chinese martial arts should include throws, punching, kicking and submissions to be complete as a martial art. Zhao bao can be viewed as a style closely related to Chen taijiquan and it's form also includes explosive movements called fajin in Mandarin. Master Liu can teach you all of these skills in a step by step process according to your level and interest. If you are only interested in taiji as an exercise you don't have to take part in the more martial aspects in class. However if you want to compete this is certainly catered for. I have been attending his classes for several years and recommend them highly. This is not your usual taiji leisure centre class it is taijiquan taught at a very high level!

I'd done Yang style tai chi for a few years before trying Azitaiji on the recommendation of a friend. Although I really enjoyed my previous class, once I'd gotten past the absolute-beginner stage I was finding it hard to progress. Not to mention, developed knee and ankle problems…
Within a couple of months of Master Yazi's class the injuries pretty much cleared up and I feel I'm learning more with every week.
The mix of group practice and direct tuition and feedback from Yazi both pushes you to improve, and allows you to develop at your own pace. The classes aren't too big and they're always friendly - with a good serving of green tea and biscuits to keep you going after a long day at work!

After trying out many different Tai chi/Taiji schools both in London and other parts of England, I've discovered that the lessons here have the most in depth content, with excellent physical and mental benefits.
Martial arts' popularity and authenticity has declined in this age, so finding a good Taiji class can be very difficult. However, Azi School of Taiji is a hidden gem when it comes to Taiji. The teacher, Yazi Liu, is interactive and enthusiastic about real martial arts, the type that is not just for a healthy body and mind, but also for self defence and fighting. His immense knowledge and experience of martial arts surpasses many, and he is very willing to share his skill.
The Taiji school is suitable for all ages; even as a teenager, it wasn't at all hard for me to fit in. Taiji classes here are available for everyone, and the variety of people it brings together keeps it interesting and friendly. Everyone is included and accepted, no matter what your skill level, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or experienced practitioner of Tai chi/Taiji. We are supported by both Yazi Liu and his senior disciples to achieve as much as possible from each class.
I have acquired vast amounts of martial arts knowledge through these classes, and have even successfully applied them in certain fighting scenarios.
The most important aspect of Azi School of Taiji is that it is very authentic, and actually gives lessons on how to apply real self defence in combat, the Taiji way, which is next to impossible to find nowadays due to the traditional inherited way of passing down Taiji. But Azi School of Taiji is perfect for anyone wanting to be healthier, or to learn real martial arts.

After learning Tai Chi in China, I didn't think I would be able to find a high quality Taichi Master in London. But luckily I found The Azi school of Taiji run by Master Liu.
Master Liu is an Exceptionally skilled and generous Tai Chi Master. He teaches Zhaobao style taijiquan, which is one of the earliest existent unadulterated forms of Taichi and it rare to find a teacher of this style in the West.
His teaching is clear, precise and meticulous and he openly teaches the full taichi curriculum including the form, push hands, qi gong and combat applications. He is able to demonstrate excellent fajin and rooting skills.
Weather you're a beginner or a old hand who wants to take your Taichi to the next level you wont be disappointed.
The other students a very friendly a welcoming and there is always time for a chat with a free cup of tea and biscuits at the end of each class.

Amazing teacher, amazing group of people. Lessons online and in person, in groups or one to one. Really fantastic. Shifu Yazi once got me to grab his neck and slowly and effortlessly had me on the floor in pain, as he smiled down at me giving me jazz hands - he had 2 free hands and had my hand trapped between his neck and chin in pain haha =-D This was just one of many instances that Shifu Yazi effortlessly and charmingly showed me how Tai Chi and its principles can be applied to huge benefit.
As well as that Shifu Yazi has completely fixed two long term joint issues I had had for years (knee and ankle) by applying pressure to the points that were hurting me with a painful and powerful technique I call 'Poke It, Pat It, Rub It' - the wealth of knowledge care and love in this school is powerful, uplifting and hugely educational and I am very grateful for everything I'm learning with them
