I can honestly say I have loved every minute of the Music Theatre Beginners course! The two tutors were extremely encouraging and dynamic and we learned a great variety of material. I was a bit worried about being a lot older than everyone else, but it really didn’t matter. Highly recommend!

Very good school with great tutors, a lot of things to learn and practice. Prepared staff (very friendly and present by email) and good spaces (the main area in Rosebery Avenue but also the Bleeding Heart Studio!) They have a plenty variety of courses and at the end you have material to work with, scenes and shortmovies recorded. I'll recommend it!

I just completed the salsa beginners course and absolutely loved it! Got to learn all the basics and more while having a lot of fun! John was my salsa teacher and he is very positive, professional, friendly and charismatic! The teacher, the music, the environment, the people = everything was great! Luckily my class had almost the same number of guys that it had for girls so it was very helpful to learn how to dance with different people. I can’t wait to do the improvers course next!

Attended one of the ballet classes for adult beginners. It was a 7 weeks course with Lydia, as a teacher. It was absolutely fantastic and would recommend it to anyone who has ever dreamt of learning the ballet. So rewarding when you notice a progress, but challenging enough to keep you engaged throughout 1.5h class. I loved every minute of it and Lydia is a fantastic, inspirational and a patient teacher. There was enough theory, practice and fun. Thank you!

I completed piano lessons for begginers and level 2. I would highly recommend the class to friends and family. The piano tutor was patient supportive, encouraging and kind. Small group of seven, use of various teaching methods as well as 1:1:support offered within the class. By the end of level 2, I was able to read music, play songs, scales and able to improvise. I felt confident enough to play on a piano in a public area and received a brilliant response! The administration team are professional, helpful, informative and friendly with excellent communication skills. Students are always kept updated via email or telephone. Thank you

Fantastic! I've just completed the beginners Tap course with Georgia, she was so patient and it was incredible to see everyone's skills grow week by week. I'm a trained actor/singer with constantly lacking in confidence on the dance front and this course has helped over come that massive hurdle (and find my love for dance again!) - I've loved every second of my course and 100% will be booking more classes and courses!

Good classroom with friendly, seemingly knowledgeable teacher and great idea for the class, but failed to deliver the basic skills teaching that I thought I was paying for. I think the rest of the class was already too good so the teacher went for that level (but then I'm not sure why they signed up for the beginners' class!). Would love to attend a real beginners "how to draw" class with more instruction on technique etc.

I have completed an absolute beginner dance course. Wonderful class! I had no experience with dancing at all. Our Tutor made a perfect job - detailed explanation of every movement and step, attention to everyone in the class. I loved every minute of my level 1 and level 2 acting course. Darren Tighe was a wonderful and passionate teacher. I felt so seen and heard. He asked the right questions at the right time and helped me dive deep into my characters. I have reached new depths and got to know myself on a whole new level. Roles and partners were chosen perfectly and this just underlines the fact, that I felt like Darren understood who we are and what we need at exactly the right moment. I’ve been attending City Academy’s dance lessons in Jazz, Ballet, Street Dance, Contemporary and Diva Dance and would recommend all of them. They are all professional, affordable, the tutors are amazing, it’s a lovely atmosphere, challenging but fun at the same time and there’s a level for everyone!!! City Academy also lets you make changes of the courses after purchase if you need to.

In the acting beginner class you will meet very different people and different personalities. Great experience all together 😃😃

When you get them right teacher this course is brilliant. When you get an okay teacher who does not seem to thrilled to be teaching this course, its ok. I attended the Presentation Skills workshop and thought it was brilliant. The class covered everything from controlling nerves via breathing exercises to how to lay out information in order to best convey it to an audience. After some practice video presentations, we focused on particular skills and recieved tailored instructions on how to improve our own performances. I love this school! I'm doing salsa course there and I'm impressed with the level of professionalism provided. Teachers are very good and the pace of classes adjusted to abilities of average person. I feel like they are able to teach how to dance everybody, even people who think they don't have skills. I also appreciate the society gathered around dancing department. It's easy to get involved in dancing socials. I totallly recommend City-Academy and I'm going to try different courses there.

Decided to give the Online Absolute Beginners Dance Course a go over lockdown in the spirit of trying new things and stepping outside my comfort zone. Class was about twenty-strong, with a pretty even mixture of people who had some dance experience and those who had none. Being in the latter group myself, I was a bit apprehensive about dancing around my room on a Thursday evening in front of strangers over Zoom. Which in hindsight was a bit daft. Soon realised that everyone was there for the same reason I was: to try something new and have a laugh. No one was really that concerned that I couldn't keep up with the salsa tempo. Phew! Least concerned of all was the instructor, Sarah Rowe, who seemed genuinely enthusiastic about what she was teaching but also appreciative that most of us weren't planning careers as professional salsa dancers and just wanted to have fun. Course was very cheap, and gave me something to look forward to for a few evenings over lockdown, so was more than happy to pay £6ish for each class. Highly recommended!

Over the course of the last year I've attended nine courses with City Academy, from professional development through to acting and improv. The quality of the courses overall has been really excellent; the tutors have been consistently fantastic, and the course content engaging and thoroughly enjoyable. I've done a number of dance courses with City Academy. Salsa classes with Dani & Magda are really great and Pia was excellent for the beginners lesson. All taster courses have been good, although I'm not suited to all dance styles! I've started Ballroom with Jo who is another excellent teacher. It can't be an accident, there's a clear pattern inn high quality teaching! You do have to pay attention and practice, as they are group classes focusing on technique. The rewards are good though as you can then have a go easily in a social setting. As well as high quality teaching the admin is sensible, reactive and friendly. I've been very happy learning to dance over the years. Thank you all :)

Having just completed the Singing Beginners class, I want to say it was a fantastic experience! Jacob was an absolutely wonderful teacher. He always made it feel comfortable singing with and in front of other people. His warm up exercises and techniques have helped me to sing more healthily and avoid sore throats (which was what I had problems with before - I wasn't using the right body parts to sing). He coaxed people out of their metaphorical shells, gave us the tools to start singing, and celebrates how much fun it is to just sing together. His passion for music and guiding others really shines through. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone else interested in learning the foundations of singing.

Before I attended City Academy I never had the courage to take that first step into the acting world even though I really wanted to. However, when I saw that City Academy provides screen acting classes to absolute beginners, I finally gathered all my courage and booked my first class: Screen Acting - Introduction level and LET ME TELL YOU, it has been the best decision I’ve ever made because the tutor (Miranda) was sooo supportive which made me more comfortable during classes and she was soo informative about acting techniques. I thoroughly enjoyed every single class with her. So, I booked another class: Screen Acting - Level 1 which I’ve just finished and again my tutor (Darren) was so supportive and so encouraging throughout the classes and I have learned a lot of valuable information about acting, and reading into scripts, learning your lines as well as the industry itself from him. City Academy has really chosen the best people to tutor people who are new or experienced in acting to advance their skills further. 10/10 would recommend.

Rory's "Tap Dance - Improvers 2 class" was amazing at keeping us going the whole dance class, so you really got bang for your buck! As well as he was so enthusiastic and supportive. This was one of the best tap classes I have taken in a long time where I really enjoyed the class and was pushed, thereby drastically improving my skills.

She explains and shows the dance steps in a very artistic, funny and positive way, using metaphors and stories. Very satisfied and already signed up for Improver 1 course in January. Ballroom Improvers are taught by expert teachers (e.g. Ksenia Zheludkova, Derek Roofayel, Tom Wohlfart; all highest-level competition dancers/international champions and my teachers to date) that are methodical in their teaching and using pedagogical ways of explaining & showing. They are all very enthusiastic instructors and combine structured teaching with attention to ways in which each individual can improve further. Venues (Dragon Hall and Dutch Church) conveniently located and spacious. Easy to book courses and Cit Academy Administration well managed with prompt responses to enquiries. In addition, customer loyalty scheme is an added bonus. Highly recommended. Booking my 6th & 7th City Academy courses now.

The courses are structured, so everyone builds a genuine repertoire of steps that everyone can do - and every week you build on this repertoire, with lots and lots of practice. Really enjoyed the acting taster. Great introduction if you're thinking of doing the full acting course. Great teacher and the atmosphere was very friendly and engaging. My only advice to the teachers is to ensure that participants do not take things too far. There was a guy who bacame overly aggressive (verbal) and condescending to his improv partner that the intensity was rather unnecessary for the exercise. To me and probably to others, it seemed a deliberate act. Point is, we are all doing these classes to have fun and improve ourselves, not to exert a false sense of superiority complex.

I did the City Academy dance foundation course over the summer and was disappointed. It was mostly random routines with little structure or technique like the website claims. The teachers focus on making it difficult (which is challenging and fun in it's own way) not making it understandable (slow and deliberate practice). They were really nice but I walked away with little applicable dance training and I wouldn't recommend it. Many of the students complained and the admin wasn't very responsive until it was too late. I do think the teachers know best but I wish they would've at least conducted a survey at the end or at the beginning. On the other hand, there were students who really wanted a ton of routines because they are more fun. And some of the routines were fabulous. My classmates enjoyed it. I would just say to anyone thinking of going to assess your own learning style: routine versus technique. It wasn't any different than going to classes at Pineapple, Danceworks etc. For the price/time commitment, I should've just gone there. At least I would've been able to choose teachers/hours etc. I have since completed the dance foundation course at RDA and it is the exact opposite. It is all technique with a few routines and a lot more individual feedback. I think the contrast makes me really reflect and, writing this half a year later, I realise it was mostly a waste of time/money.

I had never taken a drama class before and the beginner’s course was exactly what I was looking for. Everyone in the group was friendly and the teacher was really helpful and approachable. I learned how to create a character that helped me to develop my improvisational skills. I did the beginners Salsa class with Dani and I ended up a little bit dissapointed. I think it could (and should) be better. Dani is a good dancer of course but not very well at teaching, we does not give any feedback on ours moves, his classic phrase was "some people are doing it fine some others not" .. but no more than that.. You did not know if you were correct or not... or how to improve.. or anything. It is all about you looking at mirror and guessing, I am pretty sure that you could learn the same from a YouTube video. So for people starting it is not very useful because you could be doing the wrong thing and practise over that and you will end up with wrong basics. I will do the next level but with different teacher for sure.

It’s unbelievable how much progress everyone has made throughout the flexibility class with Maksym Shpachynskyi. He has a set of routines that is scientific and effective, from the warm-up to various stretching exercise and finally the training for split. And his class never lacks of fun and energy!
