Reviews of London Saxophone School

I was lucky to find this saxophone school just before the pandemic in early 2020. As a complete beginner (zero experience with the instrument - alto saxophone - and no prior music experience since childhood), I felt completely welcomed and my teacher (Manu) was very patient, understanding and encouraging through both in-person lessons (when it was possible) and mostly online sessions. I managed to improve a lot to the point of playing some well-known tunes and pieces within a few months all while getting a firm grounding and reminders about the importance of quality of sound, articulation and musical expression. Very thankful for having these good habits to be instilled in me and highly recommend the school for such focus that combines fun with adult learning objectives
This was followed this year (late 2021) by an invitation by the school director (Martino) to join the ensemble and to become comfortable and familiar with playing with other saxophonists. So, under his leadership, I practiced on a weekly basis with the rest of the group to perform 2 pieces in ensemble and one duet. Martino has a great knack for reading what a player needs to do to improve and offers great suggestions and tips to his students which I consider myself to be one now. He also has boundless energy, humour as well as lots of understanding of rhythm, musicality and passion for the art of saxophone playing which he shares freely and openly with his students to inspire them to achieve more and move to the next level on their journey of this wonderful instrument.
I highly recommend London Saxophone School and the teachers there for any child or adult looking to either get introduced to playing the saxophone or to take their playing to the next level.

I joined the London Saxophone School back in autumn 2019. I had been playing saxophone at home for a few months and once I had perfected The Pink Panther, I decided I wanted to find a new challenge and felt it would be great to play in a group.
I found LSS and was impressed by the videos from previous concerts and was keen to get involved. I contacted Martino and he advised that the ensemble caters for all abilities so I signed up without hesitation!
I cannot recommend the ensemble enough! The rehearsals are weekly and last for 12 weeks with a concert at the end. Everyone is super friendly and Martino is such a supportive teacher. He always manages to have a smile on his face, even when we sound awful! I am very grateful to LSS and would encourage anyone who is in a bit of a rut with their solo practising to sign up.

We struck gold when we were looking for a saxophone teacher for my 15 year old son and found Martino and the London Saxophone School. Martino's approach to teaching is exceptional and his passion and commitment to his students not only learning the technicalities of playing the instrument but nurturing a love of music made for a very special teaching experience. As a parent I never had to nag my son to practice as Martino's enthusiasm for playing was infectious and my son always looked forward to going to his lessons. Martino was great at communicating with me regarding anything to do with the lessons. My son also had the opportunity to join the ensemble group Martino runs and had a wonderful experience learning how to play as part of a group and performing at the London Saxophone School concerts. He also had chance to perform at The Barbican with Martino and the ensemble. I have no hesitation in recommending Martino and the LSS if you are looking for a saxophone teacher for yourself or your child.

I signed up for beginner’s lessons at the LSS having never played the sax or any other instrument in my life. My teacher was Professor Trevor Conner. Under his expert tutelage I was soon playing scales, arpeggios and simple tunes on the alto sax. Trevor made playing the sax fun right from the start. I feel it’s very important for a beginner to have fun from day one as this provides encouragement to persevere and progress. Trevor varied the content of his lessons to include long notes, scales, arpeggios and explanations on technique and music theory. Trevor delivered his content with a humorous twinkle in his eye, taking the subject matter seriously while maintaining the fun and enjoyment throughout. I found Trevor’s positive energy inspiring and stimulating. Each lesson would end with him congratulating me on my day’s work, leaving me excited about practicing and improving for the next lesson. Many thanks Trevor for making my first experience with the sax a great one and helping me establish solid fundamentals to progress.

Martino has been my saxophone teacher for the last couple of years and I could not be happier. He is dedicated, attentive, patient and very supportive. Also, I really like his flexibility to adapt to my personal preferences in the learning process.
I definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to start learning or further develop his saxophone skills.

Martino was a great teacher to find for my 12 year old son while we were in London for 2 years. We moved to London from overseas and tried 3 other teachers who came to the house. However, the local music shop helped us find Martino and his London Saxophone School. He was just who we were looking for: an excellent musician with great training and performance and a real teacher with regular dedicated lesson times and teaching methods. He communicates well with young students and is very encouraging and inspiring. His recitals and concerts get everyone involved to perform for an audience - young students and adults. Martino prepared him extremely well for his European youth Honour Band audition, and surprised his music teachers at school; he got into the Honour Band. We recently moved to the US and so had to leave the London Saxophone School and Martino's great teaching. Sami's 2 years with Martino have served him well and he stands out among his student peers in his new school band; he has been able to take private lessons from another outstanding saxophonist near our new home. Thanks, Martino! I am an amateur musician myself and am very familiar with the benefits and characteristics of a great private instrumental teacher; I also get advice from my musician friends and teachers on important aspects when looking for a private teacher. Martino is definitely a great saxophone teacher in London.

I was apprehensive in joining the Saxophone Ensemble as I have always just played at home and had never played within a group, which was what I desperately needed to bring my saxophone playing to a new level.
I initially spoke with Martino over the telephone before I booked as I had many questions that I needed answering.
Martino could not have been more helpful and he completely put me at ease. He explained in depth what the ensemble was about and what I could expect to achieve from it.
I have to say that the ensemble has been better than that I could ever have imagined. In just a matter of weeks my sight reading has improved vastly, along with my timing and intonation. The ensemble is open to all ages from school children to adults, who like myself took to learning the saxophone much later in life.
Martino has a vast knowledge of not only composing and playing the saxophone. He also has a passion to ensure that each and everyone of his students is improving. He is extremely patient, knowledgeable and strives to get the best out of his group.
Please do not allow you age or ability to be a factor for not joining. Martino makes learning incredible fun and I cannot wait for the next one!"

Martino is a great saxophonist & teacher. I've have been playing for a good few years now and I went to Martino with some specific aspects of my playing & technique that I wanted to address. I've been having lessons for just under a year and I'm loving every minute. I've gained much more confidence in my playing. Martino is very supportive and has an extremely positive approach to teaching & learning. He is an excellent musician and composer and it's fantastic to share his knowledge, ideas and encouragement. I highly recommend learning with him. Thanks, Martino!

Martino is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced saxophonist which makes him a brilliant teacher as he will know exactly how to get you playing to a high standard and how to resolve any issues you are having right away. He lets you learn at your own pace and never makes you feel pressured or uncomfortable. His lessons are great value for money and I would highly recommend attending his lessons if you want to learn how to play the saxophone or if you are already playing and want to know how to improve and progress.

I attended lessons at the London Saxophone School from August 2014 to April 2015, when I left London for good. I had a great experience. Martino, the teacher and director of the school is not only a highly proficient saxophonist, but he is also an outstanding teacher. He is passionated, dedicated to his students, patient and full of good and tailor made advices that will help you get better and make you enjoy playing. I could only recommend the London Saxophone School.

I am currently a student at London Saxaphone School and I cannot recommend their Saxaphone tuition highly enough. I have been learning Saxaphone with Martino for the past year and my progress has climbed exponentially. His teaching styles are versatile and engaging. What sets LSS apart from the others is the highly personalised teaching style to fit my personality and motivations. Excellent tutor! Thank you!

From zero to hero. Maybe not quite hero, but the teachers at the Saxophone School have the patience and skills to help you get there. Trevor, Martino and Tamás are great teachers! They've combined both theory and practice neatly. Personally, I really enjoyed the group lessons as I feel that there is more constructive competition, at least for the first steps.

I am a student of the London Saxophone school since a year and half and I can guarantee that it is the best school for professional saxophone studies. The school has a massive range for you to develope different styles and techniques, I personally study classical music with the Alto Saxophone and I am managing to achieve all my goals with this great school. If you love music I definitely advise you to join 👌🎷🎷🎷

I just want to take this opportunity to thank Martino at the London Saxaphone School. Thank you for everything you have done for my 9 year old son and 11 year old daughter. Their time with you have been truly enriching and the quality of teaching outstanding. They have grown enormously in their time with you and we really can’t thank you enough. Truly the best Saxaphone School in London!

I’ve been saxing away with the London Saxophone School crew for almost two years now; i have progressed from not being able to read music to performing in front of an audience at two of the concerts organized by the school. I started with the group lessons and now moved to private ones, always with Tamas, who is such a good teacher and excellent professional. I couldn’t recommend these guys more!

Great teacher, saxophonist and composer. He is so talented and doing many things all around the world. I only took 7-8 courses from him and ready to give a concert and even play solo alto sax with a piano!!
Great location for courses in Notting Hill!
