We've been riding here for around 6 months now, and I love it. We are given horses that gently stretch our ability and our lovely instructor Claire is knowledgeable, positive and encouraging. The range of horses available is amazing, they are well behaved and very responsive. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming. I thoroughly enjoy riding here, and would give it more stars if I could! Highly recommend, wherever you are on your riding journey.

Can’t put into words how much I love this place. Ridden here for 9years, worked her for 5 years and have had my first horse stabled here for almost 2years now. It is professionally run and the whole community is like a family; owners, staff, liveries and customers all get along so well despite the range of ages. Everyone is so supportive and friendly and I am at my happiest here with a horse who I have a unique bond with. Our partnership was brought together by Abi and John who both have supported me and continue to help me as a first time horse owner: speaking from personal experience, following a serious accident involving my horse being in need of serious treatment, I can say they go selflessly above and beyond what anyone could expect and without them I know my mare would not have made it through. I can’t thank this yard enough or recommend it high enough .. it has brought me not only a beautiful horse who I adore but friends for life :)

We can't praise this outfit enough! John is a gentleman, he has spent much of his personal time advising us on what's best for our horse! He's always there when we need him! Nothing is ever too much! We keep our horse at johns too, he's great with our daughters and treats them like his own! It's like a family down at the stables! He doesn't stand any messing! And has his own way! We have just returned from our first lesson and we were delighted to be welcomed by such a friendly team. The lovely lady on reception Debbie, instructors Kim and Lyndsey all exceeded our expectations and couldn't have been more customer focused. The organisation that we experienced in three different lessons was spot on. The horses look very well cared for and were a pleasure to ride. A lovely warm viewing area to watch the arena was great too!

My son booked me in for a surprise 50th birthday and what an amazing surprise it turned out to be. My horse was the very handsome Mr T and he was a total gent. The whole experience was wonderful.

My children and I have been coming to John Shaw Riding School for over 7 years. It is such a friendly place to be with the most supportive team of instructors and staff lead by John and Abi. We have progressed from riding school customers to livery/horse owners under the watchful eye of John and his team. Nothing is ever to much trouble and everyone goes out of their way to help with anything you need. The centre also provides excellent events for riders of all abilities and it truly is a family friendly place.

As an AI and after spending some time away from horses following having children I was nervous about returning to riding after around 3 years. Have worked at JSE teaching for John and his team. Had a great time and met some wonderful people. Also had the pleasure of teaching with amazing horses. Facilities are great and John is always on with some new project to provide his customers with endless opportunities. John also does a lot of extras for urmston and the local community, lending safe ponies for school fairs, taking part in the carnival parades and also refilling the fish ponds with water when the weather has been hot and we nearly lost the fish. Do not believe the negative reviews, John and Abi have built up a fantastic riding establishment...well done guys 😀🐎🐎🐎

The help and service on the yard is incredible, John and Abi are always available for questions and would go to the extremes to make sure you and your horse are ok and happy! Everyone makes you feel apart of the family and it’s a great community to be apart of. With horses available for all abilities and instructors who are highly acknowledged in the horse world. I’m can guarantee that you would have a great time and learn a lot. Couldn’t recommend it enough x

I keep my horse on full livery at John's and for me it is very simple. What is the most important thing you want from a livery yard? If it's the safe care and wellbeing of your horse then this is the place for you! John knows his job..horses! They come first. His team of staff are experienced, knowledge and love horses. When things go wrong minor or major John & Abi are there for you and more importantly your horse. So if all you care about is designer stables then this may not be the place for you but if all you care about is your horses then look no further. The added bonus is that this is also a lovely family run business, with brilliant people and events, whether is hacking or competing.
