I first came across Monica during the first lockdown when she ran a Friday on-line class. I always looked forward to that, as we all know, that lockdown was tough, and she certainly helped to keep my chin up. My son and his girlfriend also took part. It was an amazing thing that she did.
I have since followed her on Instagram, I frequently ask her questions and she always replies promptly. I have also purchased her Shickshack membership as a gift. I was absolutely delighted when my son bought us a private cookery lesson with Monica which she very kindly carried over, again, thanks to lockdown!!
The experience was a birthday present that turned out to be a fantastic day with the Monica and her mum, Aneeta. the food we cooked was delicious and the tips we picked up were just amazing and the choice of menus was very extensive, although Monica will cook anything if you have a firm favourite that’s not on the menu. Monica blows the myth out of the park that Indian food is difficult to cook. I am just fascinated by the whole Indian culture.
I would love to do it all over again. Watch this space!! 😊

I bought a private class for my fiances' birthday present and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Monica and her mum were warm and friendly, instantly putting us at ease with chai tea and an explanation of Indian spices and cooking prep. We made a five course dinner with courses chosen in advance from a large selection and both Monica and get mum were excellent teachers - especially patient with our terrible attempt to fold samosas properly - giving us plenty of little hints and tips as we went along. We had a brilliant time and I would highly recommend this class and school to anyone who enjoys cooking.

For Xmas last year I asked for experiences and this was one of my gifts....
WOW! I HAD “THE” MOST AMAZING TIME! It’s given me skills I can use again, a fantastic experience and a great memory.
I was very honoured to be invited into the family home for this cooking experience. I was met at the door by Monica herself and as we went into the kitchen I met her mother...another very skilled lady in the kitchen.
I don’t want to labour on however Monica and her mum are amazing in the kitchen, they made me feel at ease and helped me become a better cook. I was extremely pleased to get a compliment from Monica’s mum on my chapati making skills...a compliment from the expert!
Thank you Monica for an amazing experience and thank you Monica’s mum for the compliment.

Bought as a birthday present for my husband (but of course a present that I, and our friends, could also benefit from :-) ) What a fantastic night!!! Learning to cook great food in a fun, friendly way. Great instruction / help provided by Monica and her mum. I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to learn from scratch or improve their cooking skills. We all had great fun and ended up eating a really tasty dinner that hopefully we will be able to recreate - thanks again Monica

Fantastic evening with Monica and her Mum. My friend's bought me a cooking experience for my birthday and I opted for the biryani masterclass. I was welcomed with a glass of delicious chai tea and joined by 7 others for the evening. We each took turns in helping prepare the dishes which was great fun. I learned a lot and got to eat a delicious meal. Monica and her Mum were incredibly knowledgeable and encouraged questions, photos and getting stuck in! Would highly recommend.

This was my second visit to the cookery class and again it didn't disappoint. Monica and her mum looked after me and make the whole experience brilliant. They are so nice to be around and constantly giving you tips and advice. Through their help my Indian cooking has gone to another level. I will certainly look forward to another class at some point and recommend anyone to try it.

My sister and I recently attended a cookery course at The Spice Club. Everything was just perfect from the initial welcome from Monica and Mum Anita, the cookery demonstration with the chance to get involved in various stages of preparing the meal and the final treat of eating all of the dishes prepared on the day. We came away with loads of hints and tips (and recipes) for preparing authentic and home cooked Indian meals. I couldn't recommend this highly enough and will be booking another class for different food in the New Year!

Excellent cookery experience. Monica and her mother were the most welcoming of hosts in their own home. Learw so much about how to improve my cooking in such a short period of time. I'm inspired! Thank you

Just completed the Tandoori masterclass course and really enjoyed it, Monica (and her mum Anita) are pure class and deserve the success I’m sure they are enjoying. The course is informal, interesting, educational and most importantly. - good fun. If you are interested in learning to cook quality Indian food book yourself on a course, you won’t regret it.

I was very lucky to be gifted a place on the Spice Club's Dine Like Kings Mughlai cookery class, and what a wonderful experience it was too! Monica and Anita were as friendly and welcoming as they were knowledgable, and instantly made everyone feel at home. I learnt a huge amount that will improve my own cookery immensely, and the sumptuous feast we enjoyed at the end was amongst the best Indian food I've tasted. Highly recommended indeed!

I recently attended the Coastal Spice Trail and had a brilliant evening.
Hosted by Monica and her mother, they were so welcoming and were happy to share their wealth of knowledge and passion for their cuisine.
The evening was informative, educational, enjoyable and to top the lot, finished with a excellent meal.
Thanks again to the Spice Club, I can thoughrogly recomend them and will certainly return.

Used as a joint Christmas present, a fantastic experience and a great combination of hands on cooking and learning! Monica and her mum welcomed us into their home and from the moment we came you feel privileged to be part of their home style family cooking.
The tips and techniques we learned are easy for any home cook and will really help to build my confidence when cooking with spices in the future, I will not be buying pre-made cooking sauces again!!
Monica had such grace and presence in the kitchen, even when frying with hot oil (amazing pakoras!) I felt relaxed and tried them again as soon as I got home.
I couldn't recommend high enough - a must try!
Hopefully it wont be too long until I am back again!
Thanks Monica! - you are the poori queen!

I received a 1 to 1 cookery class for my birthday and it was great. Monica and her mother were very welcoming, knowledgable and informative; I learnt a lot and ended up with some great food. It was definitely 3 hours well spent and I couldn't recommend it enough.

A relaxed and extremely useful cookery course followed by a meal that was better than any restaurant- cooked by us amateurs no less, under Monica’s guidance. There were lots of practical tips and illustrations from using a microwave to speed up skinning garlic, to fuss free preparation of chillis and ginger. To further speed up the preparation Monica used a cool little Indian pressure cooker, which I understand the Spice Club will be selling soon.
Highlight for me was seeing how to cook onions the proper Indian way. You can’t learn this from books (I know I’ve tried). That and learning how to batter fish without covering kitchen in eggy, floury, breadcrumby handprints.
