Reviews of Global Pre-Meds

I am a biology pre-med major and I attended the global pre-med shadowing experience in the Dominican Republic. The program and hospitals are well adapted to covid and following all the protocols to keep everyone healthy and safe. I am looking to be a pediatrician and being in the ER and watching the doctors with the children gave me great insight. To be able to witness surgeries in the OR was such a dream! The house we stayed in and the beaches were something out of a fantasy. I felt listened to from all of the staff and accommodating me whenever something came up. I left the Dominican Republic mores sure than ever that the doctor path is for me! It was the best experience of my life. For that I will forever be grateful to Global Pre-Meds!

Amazing experience in the Dominican Republic, all the staff members involved were helpful and welcoming even throughout these difficult times.
The placements were a great learning experience each time we went and what you see is above the norm for students at your level of qualification which is a massive bonus and the extracurricular activities surrounding the placements were always enjoyable.
Do not let the price of the trip deter you from applying and proceeding further, this truly was a trip to remember.

Last year I travelled to Dominican Republic for two weeks to gain experience in a hospital to help me confirm my want to be a midwife. While there I gained so much knowledge in the medical aspect but also came away with amazing friends and memories. After placement we were able to go on trips, my favourite was the sunset cruise which also allowed us to go snorkelling. I 100% recommend this programme as it is worth the money and you won’t regret it!

I had an amazing experience with the Global Pre-Meds Program. I met so many incredible people and got to make some lifelong connections on the way. I am so grateful I had a great mentor to shadow while learning more about the Dominican Republic healthcare system. The Global Pre-Meds Program provided me a unique opportunity to experience Dominican culture through fun activities and excursions while simultaneously furthering my own educational and professional goals.

Hi all! I recently attended the Global Pre Meds program on July 18-31. I loved loved loved the program. I met amazing people, ate great food, stayed in a beautiful villa, got to do what I loved, and the experience overall changed me as a person. I was barely on my phone and I lived in the moment. The staff was wonderful and held a lot of activities to keep everyone involved like salsa dancing lessons, BBQ's, movie nights, karaoke nights, yoga, etc. Before I actually went to the program I thought that it was way overpriced but to me, it was worth the money. I would do it all again if I could. The only con is that the COVID-19 protocol seemed rushed, a few of my program mates tested positive and felt neglected, and alone. In terms of COVID-19, I personally felt safe (wearing masks, rapid testing available, etc) but be prepared to come out of pocket and venture kind of on your own if you do contract COVID-19, hopefully the plan for that is better now!

My experience in the Dominican was up to that point the best two weeks of my life. The people I met and the experiences I had are still a huge part of my life and it always seems to come up in every conversation I have with new people I meet. The things you get to see and do on this trip are seriously once in a lifetime things that even people in college and beyond might never get to see for themselves. The trip solidified my passion for wanting to pursue medicine and if you ever get that chance to do this trip, 100% recommend.

Global Premeds was one of the most amazing experiences of my whole life. The mentors were so dedicated and knowledgeable and everybody working at the house was so kind. I learned so much and made so many new friends! I would recommend doing this program even if you are not interested in medicine because it is so eye opening!

I went to the Dominican with Global Premeds this June and it was the best two weeks I could've asked for. The house was kept very clean and we had a lot of fun with other bubbles even with Covid. The staff at the house were amazing. They would sit and talk with us almost every night on the patio. The food was also delicious and going out to the dinner both Fridays was really fun. We were able to get gelato as well before we had to go back to the house because of curfew. The hospital was an incredible experience. I spent my time in the general surgery department with Dr. Amin and he made the trip really fun. He explained to us everything that would be happening and showed us some cases that he saw later in the day. We also had some homework to do for him where we would research a procedure that we saw and then would it explain to him and the group the next morning. I saw lots of incredible surgeries and was able to see the vast difference in healthcare systems in America and the Dominican Republic. In the middle weekend we went on a full day catamaran tour and that day was honestly my favorite. We enjoyed snacks and drinks while sailing to an island where we would hang out at the beach and have lunch. There was fun music and dancing with the crew. We saw the sunset and went snorkeling to end the day. I would highly recommend this program to anyone. It was incredibly fun and I got to make some new friends while exploring a topic that I want to go into in the future.

My name is Lizeth Magana I am a nursing student and I completed the induction program on August 2019 in the Dominican Republic. Being a part of Global Pre-Meds has been one of the greatest adventures, I enjoyed every second of my experience. I loved making new friends from all of over the world and being able to share the amazing experience with them and make unforgettable memories. I completed my shadowing hours in the emergency room of the Hospital Dr. Dario Contreras, the biggest trauma hospital in the Dominican Republic, where I was mentored by Dr. Yannety De Aza. I learned so much from my mentor and was able to witness critical situations that I would have never seen anywhere else. I would definitely recommend Global Pre-Meds to anyone that is interested in the healthcare field.

My global pre meds experience was July 2019 and it was the best weeks of my life. The process of researching global pre meds and booking my two weeks was so easy and they provided me with all the information I needed and all questions were answered. They also supplied me with extra information on how to book flights and get the best insurance for travelling. On the run up to my flight date I was contacted regularly to ensure any last minute questions or nerves were reduced and answered. Throughout my two weeks I got to experience things I never thought I would at the age of 17 such as C-sections, hernia removals, Xrays and everything in between including a natural birth on my last day! As well as shadowing my mentors I also got to explore the Dominican island on horses, boats and quad bikes. I met the most amazing people from all over the world which is what I love about it being “global” I got to know about healthcare in not only the Dominican but the countries where my new friends were From! The staff in the Dominican house were so supportive and did whatever they could to accommodate you. My 2 weeks absolutely flew by and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat!

Thanks to Global Pre-Meds, I went to the Dominican Republican Course in La Romana. There I could see for the first time in my life important medical procedures such as : surgeries, deliveries and other operations. Our tutors were very friendly and nice but also well prepared and excellent doctors.
It was an awesome experience also for all the friends I could make in my two- week program. Even if I was the only non American/ Canadian , I never felt left apart because everyone was so kind and pleasant.
Thanks to this experience I have strengthened my intention in attending Medical School.

Thanks to Global Pre-Meds I was able to shadow physicians in the Emergency Medicine department at Hospital Doctor Arístides Fiallo Cabral in the Dominican Republic. It was an extremely eye-opening couple of days. We were confronted with an array of cases ranging from something as simple as a bruised leg to something as complicated as Pulmonary Edema! There is always something happening in the ER! Discussions were held about the pathway to becoming a doctor in DR, how their healthcare system differs from the US, common diseases in the area and numerous other topics. Besides this, the program did a phenomenal job at giving us students a well-deserved break. Many times as Pre-Meds we halt ourselves from taking a moment to relax given how fast paced our daily routines are. Global Pre-Meds provided medical exposure as well as moments to sit by the pool or go for a swim at the beach! One of my favorite parts was connecting with Pre-Meds from all over the world and seeing where each of them are on their journey. I met students about to begin college, in undergrad, in a gap year and about to start medical school! Someone even received their MCAT score during the trip (yes she killed it and we all screamed)! I will never forget this experience!

Last summer I spent one week shadowing doctors in a hospital in the Dominican Republic. I can honestly say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life; I was able to watch caesareans, leg amputations, hernia repairs and other general surgeries. If you want to study medicine I can think of no better way to learn whether you are up for the challenge of being a doctor!

This trip is the one that made me 100% sure of my decision to go into university for medicine. I got to view a different health care system from my country's and I saw the many differences , but also similarities with which doctors tackles patient issues with the little resources available to them. If that wasn't enough, every afternoon, whether you chose to stay at the house or go out to the programmed excursion of the day was an absolute blast. I would definitely do it all over again if I had the chance.

My experience at Global Pre-Meds in the Dominican Republic far exceeded my expectations this summer. I was thrilled to discover how much we were allowed view at the hospital, I was watching spinal and brain surgery right by the operating table with the neurosurgeons explains the context and the steps of the surgery to me. A combination of the fascinating surgery’s I witnessed and the hugely fun activities lead by the brilliant team in the Dominican made this trip the highlight of my summer.

My shadowing-a-doctor experience in Croatia was unforgettable! Someone could ask, why was my experience unique? Well, globalpremeds gave me a real insight into the life of both a vascular surgeon and a Transfusion med doctor; this experience broadened my horizons and enriched my knowledge of medicine, considering both the hard work carried on in a lab and the team-oriented work environment and challenges witnessed in the OR. Plus, this experience helped me strengthen my personal statement for UCAS and build lifelong friendships!!!!!
P.s. Shoutout to the team at the house!!! They're absolutely incredible and are like my second family now!!!
If you want to have the summer or work experience of your life, you definitely need to book a place with globalpremeds!!! I promise you you won't regret it!!!:)

I spent two weeks in La Romana, Dominican Republic but I could have easily stayed longer. I cannot recommend this programme enough as I gained an invaluable insight to various medical procedures whilst also learning about the workings of another healthcare system. Every member of staff at the house was welcoming and helped make my experience an amazing one and all the mentors at the hospital were great at helping us adjust to contact hours in the hospital.
Leading up to departure, other members of the team were in constant contact with me, both over email and phone, and were able to answer any questions or queries.
Don't worry if you're travelling alone, as most people do so you will make fast friends who will only help make the whole experience more enjoyable.
I enjoyed every second of my trip and would go again in a heartbeat.

I did two weeks in the Dominican Republic shadowing doctors in the public hospital. I got to see things I never thought I would at my age I had two very lovely mentors who taught me so much in the two weeks I was there. All the staff at the house where very friendly and happy to help with anything. I got to make friendships with so many people from all different places and if I had the choice to go I back and do it all over again I would.

literally the best experience of my life !! not only was I able to watch incredible surgeries and witness people have life changing moments, I was able to make life long friends who have the same ambition in life as me. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience and what you learn about not only your future career but yourself is so worth it. The team at the house were incredible and made the house so homely (they seriously
become like your family away from home). I couldn’t recommend this trip enough !!

This trip was marvelous! The advisors helped me find the right program for me that was safe and affordable. The hospital staff was all so amazing and we all still communicate to this day. I recommend this program for anyone who wants to gain knowledge on how fun and healthy working in the medical field can be. It was an experience well balanced with shadowing in the morning and time for adventure and giving back to the community in the evening!

Last summer, I had the incredible privilege of shadowing doctors, surgeons, and midwives in the Dominican Republic as a part of a medical placement. Through the experience, I learned the value of and gained a profound appreciation for medical professionals, specifically those confined by scarce resources and compromised healthcare systems. The internship allowed me to truly discover my passion for medicine and my desire to have a career centered around patient care and healthcare. I am extremely blessed to be studying Nursing and Pre-Medicine in my post-secondary endeavours. The whole experience helped me discover my true calling and I owe it all to Global Pre-Meds.

My trip with Global Pre-Meds was amazing! I loved every single minute of it and learned so much. The team are so friendly and the mentors in the hospital are perfect. I even cried when I left the hospital for the last time! The trip really showed me what medicine is like and how it is so different in the Dominican than back home in the States. Would recommend this trip sooo much! Thank you Global Pre-Meds!!!

I went last summer to La Romana, Dominican Republic and had an experience of a lifetime! Through this program I was able to make friends from around the world, have hand on experience at the hospital ( learning suture techniques and casting), observe patient-doctor interactions, and even enjoy the beautiful beach of DR. Im so grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of this amazing program and I highly recommed for anyone who is interested in the medical field!
Here are some pictures from my trip. The hospitals in the DR aren't neary as advanced or clean as the hospitals in the U.S but that is what makes this experience so great. You would not be able to have this eye opening experienve that allows us to appreciate what we have in the US.

I could say this is the best choice for all students that are interested in their studies, in medical cases and in foreign health system. Apart from this professional experience, you will also get friends for life, contacts from hospital on the other side of the world, safety while traveling and nice recommendations after this internship. Before and during this program I have not had any problems - the team, hospital, accommodation, all was scheduled and well organised. Thank you and wish everyone to try this. Modesta Ralyte
