My son loves his martial arts classes and is very proud of the skills he learns. The Academy has been fantastic with him, helping him to come out of his shell and have confidence, and seeing the potential in him. Couldn’t recommend highly enough for kids who want to learn the skills and meaning of martial arts properly.

I don't really do many Google Reviews but wanted to take the time to on this occasion. As the dad of a 5 year old daughter, I was very keen to get her involved in Jui Jitsu to build her confidence and focus, as well as enable her to defend herself should the need arise. Jiu Jitsu is the one martial art that doesn't depend on strength but technique, enabling students to defend themselves against much larger aggressors. To anyone who knows, Gracie Jiu Jitsu is widely considered the best on the planet. We are very lucky to have it on our doorstep in Plymouth. I was very excited to get my daughter involved but even that excitement was superseded. When visiting the Academy for the first time, it soon became obvious that it was so much more. From the instant I walk through the door, the family feel made me feel at home and assured that my daughter was in capable hands. Within a very short space of time, she was performing techniques on her 6'3" dad that would impress anybody. The most important part? My daughter LOVES it here. Thanks for all your hard work and efforts. If you are thinking of getting involved, grab a few free trial sessions. You wont look back! 5 Stars, all day!

Since joining Macmillan Martial Arts Academy in March this year, I have found this to be the most friendly, clean and professional martial arts school I've ever seen. The tuition is at an incredibly high standard, with lessons delivered by instructors that have decades of relevant experience. The environment is friendly and supportive from the moment you enter the building. I have seen first-hand the positive impact that classes have had on children who attend the academy - every student is attentive and excited to come to each class. As well as this, something that is incredibly relevant in recent times is how the Academy has handled the Covid-19 pandemic. The academy was required to close its doors during the first lockdown, so all classes were moved online. These classes were insightful and accessable, and my learning experience during the lockdown was supported by the helpful community of other Academy members, and personal support offered by the Academy itself. The coaches used the time that the lockdown gave them to gain certificates in becoming covid-secure, and it was immediately apparent when the doors opened again after the lockdown that the measures put in place to protect students have made this Academy one of the cleanest and safest places I've visited. I strongly recommend that everyone who reads this gets in touch with Macmillan Martial Arts Academy to discuss joining as it will bring immeasurable benefits to both your physical and your mental health. Unfortunately the current lockdown has meant the Academy has once again had to temporarily close, and I can not wait until it is open again and we can return.

Really friendly training academy with excellent tuition; being middle aged and with limited martial arts experience, I was quite nervous but was immediately put at ease. Students all seem to leave their egos at the door and help each other out. My wife has just had her trial lesson, also loved it and is signing up too! A big thank you to the team.

I have been training at the academy for nearly three years and it is a really warm and friendly place with a real family feel. The academy is extremely clean and COVID aware establishment, making it a very safe place to train The instructors are amazing and make every class very enjoyable., I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to people of any age who wish to learn self defence. An amazing place, I try and spend as much time here as possible. I train here, as does my daughter. The adult and the children’s programmes are the best available if you are interested in genuine effective self defence. As well as Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu, the academy offers MMA, Kickboxing, Weapon Defence, Private Tuition and much more! The academy is clean, hygienic and we’ll organised. Here is a genuine review. I'm originally from my humble country, Philippines. I started my Jiu-jitsu journey there and I've visited quite a lot of Jiu-jitsu gyms in and out of my country... some in Asia and some in Europe. Whenever I go to a Jiu-jitsu gym. I always mainly look for 5 things. 1. Cleanliness. Many Jiu-jitsu gyms lack this. Their changing rooms, toilets, and mats are untidy, unclean and smells bad. Here in Macmillan Martial Arts, it is a different story. The mats are properly cleaned to prevent infection and the changing room and toilet are clean. Actually, just before you enter the gym's door, you can already smell a fresh scent from the inside. 2. Hygiene. Many Jiu-jitsu schools allow stinking students to still train. Mostly those who doesn't wash their kimonos or gi's. Here is the contrary. Everyone has clean and white uniforms. 3. Hospitality A lot of Jiu-jitsu gyms are too territorial and competitive that they become unwelcoming and closed-minded. Here, there is a friendly, respectful and cooperative training vibe. 4. Safety Most Jiu-jitsu schools are too big on toughness that the risk for injuries is too high. Here, the instructors and the students take good care of each other. 5. Self-defense Focus A lot of Jiu-jitsu Schools doesn't address the common behaviors of regular bad guys in the streets. Here, survival in the worst case scenarios is the primary and efficiency is the key. Athleticism is not a requirement. Now, I'm here in Truro, Cornwall. I travel a total of 3 hours just to train here in Macmillan Martial Arts and I train once to twice a week...but it's all worth it. There are a lot of martial arts schools around me but they don't have the 5 criterias that I'm looking for.

A great laugh is had by everyone in a respectful and clean learning environment, the team behind the gym including Katie who deals with all the management of the academy and bookings is also a very high standard.
