Max has provided piano tuition for my daughter for a few years now, from being a complete beginner. She has since grown to both appreciate classical music and to enjoy playing the piano. Max is highly qualified and accomplished in his own right, but he is really down to earth and unspoiled. I observed his teaching approach whilst I joined her initial lessons and I was really impressed because he managed to maintain her attention for the whole of each lesson, from day 1. He was really patient, as she could become easily distracted, but he redirected her attention calmly and easily, back to the task. Max's lessons have given her the opportunity to have that 1:1 tuition, which has not only boosted her musical skills but increased her concentration levels and ability to focus on tasks. He has always used plenty of praise and encouragement along the way, which has improved her confidence massively as well. I look forward to Max continuing to support my daughter's progress in the future, both with her piano lessons and with her personal development.

Max is the definition of a professional piano teacher. His passionate and intelligent approach to music inspires the soul. Each lesson feels just right, without it becoming too challenging nor boring. Max does not just rely on a fixed, rigid textbook. Yet despite that, each lesson feels 'just on the right level' and therefore allows to just enjoy the process of learning music. I honestly can't praise Max enough. He is unbelievably patient and has the ability to identify areas of improvement and provide constructive feedback without being condescending, which is very important when trying to learn a new skill. When I booked my first lesson I had some reservations as I thought it was going to be too stressful and I'd give up after a couple of lessons. It has become my favorite part of the week. I have a very demanding job and the piano lessons really help me unwind at the end of a working week. That should tell you how stress free the lessons are! I'm an American taking lessons over Zoom (I'd rather have a great teacher via Zoom than an average teacher in-person). I learned about Maxim from a friend, and we've been working together for about 6 months, and what a wonderful journey it's been so far! Above all, Max is accommodating. He wants to know your piano interests and goals, and he can provide tailored options for how to move toward said goals. Max is a scholar of the Western canon, so he can provide interesting insights and historical tidbits about classical music and the various composers. He also makes superb suggestions of recordings to listen to, and book suggestions as well. He can field any question or concern you have about a piece, offering his vast piano knowledge and wisdom on the spot. He'll help you practice by finding mini-etudes within the piece to work on. Sometimes it takes me a little while to appreciate his suggestions, but after a couple weeks I usually come to the same conclusion, and then I wonder why I didn't just listen the first time (it reminds me of working with my thesis advisor in grad school!) Max's playing sounds very authentic. I can't put my finger on why it sounds so good, it just does. I wish I could play like him (I also wish I had his level of patience!). Also, he hears EVERYTHING. He doesn't teach above your head, though. He accepts you for the pianist you are now, and teaches accordingly. Having Max as a teacher gives me the confidence that as long as I put in the time, he will always provide me the missing puzzle pieces to complete my piano-playing experience.

Max is an excellent piano tutor. I had around 2 months piano experience before beginning lessons with Max, but needed guidance on my technique and sheet music reading abilities. Max has a systematic and logical approach to teaching piano, which makes it easy for anyone from any background to develop a musical talent. This has allowed me to tackle pieces which I previously thought were unreachable. Max makes the lessons enjoyable and I always leave his lessons with greater confidence and knowledge. I have been learning the piano with Max since October 2021 and have passed my initial grade exam with a distinction score of 144/150 (March 2022) and my grade 1 exam with a score of 140/150 (June 2022). Max has a relaxed teaching style and makes you feel comfortable even when you are struggling with the learning. I hope to continue progressing with Max as I work towards my grade 2 exam later this year. I would recommend Max to anyone considering starting out to play the piano.

In four months, Max took me from a complete beginner to achieving a distinction in my ABRSM initial grade exam. He’s a very patient and supportive tutor who always encourages me and pushes me to progress. Any question I ask is swiftly answered, Max has intimate knowledge in all aspects of the piano, music theory, and related history. He also has the uncanny ability to swiftly find and open books on the correct page to further explain a concept or to show examples of real world use. Alongside his knowledge comes a wealth of experience playing and analysing sheet music. His approach brings the best out of every piece we look at, and continually teaches me how to analyse new pieces alone. I can imagine a lot of music lessons being very dry and boring, but this is never the case with Max. From day one he made me feel comfortable with his piano and us playing together. Our lessons are full of stories from his experiences, short history lessons on composers and famous pieces, and jokes shared between the two of us. I always look forward to our weekly lessons, and always leave with a renewed excitement for playing the piano.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED After being highly recommended by a music teacher at my Daughter’s school, I enrolled my three children, aged fourteen, twelve and ten, for piano tutoring with Max six months ago, and I too, would highly recommend Max’s Piano Tuition for anyone wishing to learn or further their achievement at any level. Max is a highly skilled pianist, and composer, with years of experience in both playing and tutoring. All three of my children have grown and learnt at an exceptional rate, and the elder two are now working on arrangements for grades one and three. An exemplary pianist, Max not only provides the support and tuition to progress and develop my playing but is also a role model and talent to be admired in his own right. My 12year old daughter, Abi, has been having piano lessons with Max since February 2020. Abi had previously had lessons at Primary school for approximately 12 months. When Abi left Primary School we researched an independent teacher that was closer to home and after reading Max's reviews we decided to contact him. We spoke on the telephone and after a very pleasant conversation we booked lessons for Abi. We have found Max to be extremely patient and catered to Abi's individual need. She has found the lessons to be enjoyable and rewarding. Max sets Abi different pieces of music to work on after each lesson and she has been able to complete the challenge. The lessons originally took place at Max's home, but since the COVID19 lockdown has been having lessons via Skype. I am hoping the lessons on Skype continue as this is more convenient when Abi has been to school. Although, I would like her to have a lesson at Max's home to enable her to have the one to one contact in person. We find Max a really nice and friendly teacher and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone wanting to learn how to play the piano.

Skype lessons Max has been teaching me for a few months now and we converted to skype due to the lockdown. I was skeptical at first if I would still learn effectively but I can confidently say the video call lessons work very well. Max believes I am a strong grade 2 and two thirds of my tuition has been via skype, so for anyone thinking of learning don't be put off by current restrictions. My earlier review below still stands 6 months on. Max has great passion and knowledge of music and his style of tuition suits me well. He balances practical and theory perfectly, giving you challenges while also allowing you to progress at your own pace, and get the fulfillment of completing a melody or song you couldn't fathom weeks earlier. He takes the time to explain the details and background on aspects of music and the books and material recommended to me has also been perfectly suited to my level allowing we to grasp new concepts quickly. He also allows you to touch on wider music concepts and you are not religiously following every page of a book with the goal of just completing your grades, you are gaining an education in music. Best thing I have done for years!
