Reviews of Gracie Barra Warrington Brazilian Jiujitsu and Self Defence

Highly recommend this place to train for both adults and children, it has a really welcoming community feeling and everyone takes the time to help the lower grades, especially white belts starting out.
Graeme and his team are really excellent coaches and teach you all the tiny details that are essential to BJJ.
It is very clean and tidy, there are loads of sessions morning, midday and evening so you can fit in with your work life and it is easy to book on via the app.
If you are looking for a new place to train BJJ, self defence or to get fit, make sure you check it out.

I have been training there now just on 7 months. The facilities are fantastic, the coaches and other students have been welcoming from day 1! I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to give it a go!

I have had the luxury of training in several gyms around the world including a number of Gracie Barra schools so I feel qualified to give an informed review. The level of education here is top class, Graeme has studied with and under some of the worlds elite players. I read a review where someone had an issue with blue belts teaching the fundamentals curriculum. These guys are teaching for a reason. They know the material inside out as per Graeme's instruction and through experience competing. They are patient and concise and always happy to answer any questions about what they are teaching. One teaching blue belt showed me a high percent take down I haven't learned on the curriculum that I use all the time and another showed me a half guard escape that has impressed everyone i've shown since. This model is team and character building and it benefits everyone. Graeme's military background brings a good mixture of pushing the pace, testing your limits(check out a Friday class) and encouragement to be humble and help each other. I distinctly remember after one of Graeme's post class motivational speeches thinking wow I'm actually amped up to put my energy into this and progress. Hannah is very friendly and helpful regarding management. The facilities are clean and well maintained. The students are friendly and helpful. A good environment to learn. I pay almost double on trains than I do on membership fees to get here from Liverpool. Because of this I could train locally for a lot less money with a much less time consuming commute. That says alot, it pays dividends. The standard is just better.

I’ve been training at Gracie Barra Warrington for a long time and decided to provide an honest review amongst those currently on display which are mostly provided by devoted members who have never trained anywhere else.
My review is a more balanced and unbiased look at the school.
The good:
- the black belt instruction is very good, his level of jiujitsu is amongst the best in the region. He is an international competitor and has medalled at black belt, and is a very knowledgable and experienced teacher.
- the school has a very successful kids programme, which has produced multiple gold medalists. So if you have kids who want to learn a martial art you can be assured that they are in very safe hands here
- the facilities are superb compared to other gyms. Safe, clean and comfortable.
The not so good:
- be very careful when signing up that you are familiar with the uniform policy. You will not be allowed to train unless you wear the uniform which means if you want to train in the morning and evening you will need 2x uniforms and rashguards which will be @300 pounds. If you want to train the following day you’ll need another 2x uniforms and rashguards which will be another @300 pounds. That is @600 pounds worth of gear.
Be aware of this before you sign up as it is not mentioned.
- Tuesday and Thursday classes are taught by new blue belts. Therefore the granular details needed to successfully perform the techniques in live training will usually not be provided. Experienced grapplers may not get a satisfactory product and there is no live sparring on these days either so your skills can’t be tested.
Summary: if you have kids this is the place to be, the kids programmes are highly rewarding. If you have a keen interest in training and competing in jiujitsu to a high level, drop in for a trial at a few places not just here and then make a more informed decision. If you are on a limited income, be aware of costs which may not be immediately apparent.

Gracie Barra Warrington is outstanding! For anyone considering learning BJJ this is definitely the place to be. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, the classes and facilities are fantastic and the atmosphere overall is wonderful and welcoming, you wont regret starting your journey here and learning from the best in a great environment with great people.

Positives:
New facility with plenty of mat space clean and well maintained
Good community
Negatives:
Money driven with expensive membership considering some coaching is from blue belts.
Overpriced gear you have to buy from them.
No option to freeze or reduce membership during covid 19. They add online classes and pretend its the same.
Overall it's a good place to train and welcoming to newbies.

I have been going to Gracie Barra Warrington for just over a month and it is absolutely fantastic in every way. Classes and instruction are brilliant. All the people here are really helpful and friendly. Anyone wondering if they should start BJJ I would advise just take the plunge and join Gracie Barra Warrington
you really will not regret it.

I have been a member at Gracie Barra Warrington since September 2018 and hope I can provide an honest and humble review based on my limited knowledge of BJJ.
I was looking for a club that would deliver BJJ at a detailed yet fast competitive pace enabling me to learn new skills whilst pushing me physically in an area of self defence completely new to me. After purchasing my equipment and taking advantage of the free month membership and downloaded the Grace Barra App I began my journey as a beginner white belt ready to learn BJJ.
Via the easy to use booking app I found multiple training sessions available ranging from early morning 6am flow rolls, evening fundamentals classes, drill to win competition training, daytime all grade classes and weekend sessions.
During my time at GB Warrington I have attended all of the above to find out what best suits my work life balance and committed desire to learn BJJ and can honestly say each session has been delivered by accomplished instructors including regular weekly sessions with the academy’s head coach. In addition to in house instructors the club also arranges seminars for invited multi world title renowned BJJ competitors to pass on their skill set to students wishing to take their BJJ on to an even higher level.
After 8 months of training I recently achieved my third stripe which allows me to attend GB3 classes and enter the black belt programme with a solid base of BJJ principles to build upon. The content and quality of BJJ on offer at GB Warrington is outstanding and the main takeaway aspect of the whole team at GB Warrington is to remain humble, have an open mind, train hard, learn new skills, improve physically and mentally and look at how you can personal give back to others.

What a place this is! Amazing facilities and GB Warrington really is like a massive family who are so passionate about the sport and their students. My son absolutely thrives under the tutelage of Professor Graeme Finneran, not only in the sport of jiujitsu but as an amazing role model and someone to look up to. The lineage is very close to Master Carlos Gracie with Professor Graeme trained by the Estima brothers so you're really learning from the best. The amount of honours the team wins on the competition circuit is testament to that! Signing up here was one of the best things we ever did as a family.

Trained here for nearly 2 year. Graeme is a savage black belt, great instructor and competitor.
Wouldn't be where I am in my Jiu-jitsu journey if I didn't find Gracie Barra. For that guys I am grateful. Do check this place out.

This is my first experience of learning Juijitsu and what stands out is the learning culture. Everyone of all grades is incredibly supportive and will help the lower grade in drills (Light sparring) Great place, give it a go!

Not been going long but can't recommend the place highly enough. Great atmosphere, instruction and coaches. I was a bit apprehensive at first that I'd find it really intimidating but there's zero egos and people can't do enough to help 🤙
