Reviews of The British Boot Company
T. G.
Came in to the store via a recommendation, left it with a pair of stompers that are one of a kind! Would have left with another pair, but sizes were limited. Colin was amazing! He meticulously took me through several pairs of shoes, walked me through my paces (pun intended 🥾😁), extremely knowledgeable, and we eventually landed on probably the best Docs I have ever owned. Once I put them on, the leather hugged against my feet and ankles. They were so comfortable! I have worn Docs and Solovair since 91, and have gone through my standard pairs and colors, but hands down, these are my favorites. The custom and vintage selection is solid. Sizes vary, so this is hit or miss, but the selection is desirable. I came in from L.A. so If one can make it to the store, I highly recommended it, such a great experience. Looking at a few other pairs online, as well as, will be heading back in to the store sometime later this year for another pair or two!

I can't believe I've spent 32 years on this planet and have only just visited this magical place, it's essentially Mecca for any real boot fanatic. This store truly is the Ollivander's of British made footwear; instead of wands inside the ceiling high stacked boxes you'll find the most vast British shoe and boot collection of any brick and mortar store I've ever visited.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting Nick and Colin. Nick the owner is a fountain of knowledge, I left not only with multiple pairs of boots (I have a problem I know) but also an education; a living breathing footwear encyclopedia he really knows his products inside and out and exudes passion for the subject, further educating me on the history of the British boot trade. As a customer you really are in safe hands; the customer service is second to none.
Being a vintage Dr. Martens collector I was like a kid in a candy store. Literally whilst I was in the shop a guy came in with Asian made Dr. Martens less than 6 months old with the sole's coming apart on both shoes. This just perfectly illustrates the complete disparity in quality between what now passes as "Dr. Martens" in the "Official" Dr. Martens stores and genuine vintage Made in England Dr. Martens. If it absolutely has to be Dr. Martens I recommend if at all possible you buy pre 2003 Docs which were actually manufactured in England to a higher standard than the "made in England" fare that they currently peddle in the Dr. Martens stores. They have a most impressive collection of such deadstock at The British Boot Company - the best of both worlds vintage boots that have never been worn. Otherwise I'd highly recommend giving another one of the great British brands that they stock a try: Grinders, Gladiator, Solovair, George Cox, Loake etc. It really is worth the extra money and becomes more cost effective in the long run - buy better and wear longer, not to mention the added perks of also being more ethical and sustainable.
I cannot recommend The British Boot Company highly enough. Give them a visit and see for yourself.

I have just moved to the U.K. from Hong Kong last May, starting my new life here with one suitcase. I want to buy fewer but better quality stuffs, preferably Made in U.K., that I could use for many years. I went to British Boot Company next to Camden Underground Station, as it is a specialist shop for Dr Martens. The salesperson Colin has been in shoe retailing business since he was 15, and has been working in this iconic shop for 13 years, so I have no doubt that he knows his trade inside out, unlike in bigger department stores where sales people often just check the product info on their computers, Colin knew all about the history of the brand and the shop, the down-to-Earth personal touch, including he would ask you to put your feet (with your new boots) on his thigh, so he could tie the shoes strings for you probably!
Dr Martens boots started off as just plain black boots, popular for uniform workers like the postmen, the police and in the army. To enhance its appeal not just to the workers, yellow stingers were added to the boots, the boots had been adopted as the footwear for the so-called Skinheads in the 70s and 80s, and even widely accepted by the Britpop and youth culture in the late 80s and early 90s, and have become a fashionable item for the trendy teenagers.
I love to support independent family businesses and brands with a history and attitude. When I brought my boots this morning, a young American guy came in and brought a new pair of boots, even though there are many American boot brands like timberland and Red Wing.
I feel like I am not just buying a pair of Made in England boots, but also emerging into this part of British culture. I hope my new Dr Martens boots, together with my Baracuta jacket, William Morris mug, Pringle woolie jumper that I have packed up at charity shops in London have allowed me to be close to the British design heritage and enjoy using them for many years to come, instead of buying cheap quality products that would be thrown in the bin within a year or less.
Thank you for keeping the British cultures alive!

Quality, sustainability and great service are what this company is all about. Incredible selection of boots ranging from sweet and simple designs to unique colours and patterns. First came here 4 years ago and my green Docs are going strong as ever. A little pricier than you'll find on the high street, but the boots last 10X as long as anything you'd find in a chain store and are made ethically in England, so it's worth it.

This was my first time buying Dr Martin’s and I have never experienced the attention to detail or service like we just received. It’s a huge added bonus when the boots are of such high quality; something I have never provided my feet and ankles before. I told Nick my many tales of cracked soles, feeling like a ‘little kid dressed in adult clothing’ and circulation issues with boot-wearing. He listened to it all! I’ve walked (nay SKIPPED) out of the store with a new found sense of confidence and trust in this store (and massive respect for the owners). The cherry on top was feeling as though I was in a real-life Ollivanders; although it was the expertise of the owner who helped the boots pick me, which is its own kind of magic. We will be back… and so will my feet and ankles!

Really great experience today. Colin was super helpful and patient with me trying on as many pairs as I needed until I found the one. He's also bloody brilliant at lacing up boots, made the whole experience so much easier! Came away with a pair I'm really happy with and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some new boots!

Had such a wonderful experience on our first visit, we went back a couple of days later. Nick was super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I wore my boots out the door, walked around London all day and wore them to the airport the next day - not one sore spot or blister. They fit like a glove.
We will definitely be back and would highly recommend!!

Super happy with my navy blue doc martens 💙
I had zero idea why the boots i had bought online felt wrong until i popped in for a very informative chat with Colin.
The boots i'd bought online were made in China, something i wasn't aware of until i got talking to Colin.
Colin & Nick explained the move of production to china & gave me the same pair i remembered from my younger years, they fit like a glove, perfect & wow what a fabulous flashback to the past. I then tried on a pair in navy blue suede which were just beautiful.
I left the shop & thought about those boots all week.
Today i went back to try them on again & well, i bought them.
Thank you Nick & Colin, 20 years passed since i bought my first pair from you guys.
I won't leave it so long next time 🤩

I was after a pair of Grinders stag. I had a look online and the price was around 80£. The BBC was selling them for 240£. I thought, ok it's Camden so they are upping the price to an unreasonable level. When I checked both boots I realised that the only thing they have in common is the name. Apart from that, they could easily be from another planet. The ones you get from the Internet feel cheap and look horrid. Those ones fit perfectly and the quality is on another level. You have to see it to believe it. They are expensive though. No two ways around that. But considering the last pair has lasted me around 10 years and if I have the soles replaced, they could last another 5, I think they are well worth the investment, if you like a great pair of boots.
P. B.
Been coming here for almost 15 years. Returned today to get a pair of Strummers and explained to Colin that I walk a lot and tend to be quite heavy on soles. He advised me that a pair of similar George Cox's would probably suit me better in that case. Came away with very smart shoes that I know from experience will last many years. Prices have gone up almost £100 per pair since I started coming here, but if you get a decade's wear out of them because of the quality (you will not get better quality shoes) it's a saving in the long run, as well as unique styles that aren't emulated elsewhere.
W. W.
Probably the third or fourth time I have came here, still as excellent as 25 years ago, my first visit to The BBC. Nice footwear and plenty of time to try them all on. Again a great pair of Doc's!
C. M.
Every time my partner and I visit the UK we drop into the British Boot Company to add a pair or two of shoes to the wardrobe. All of the team are great and always manage to find great quality shoes or boots that are exactly what we were after, even if we didn't know what we wanted when we walked in. The only problem is the shoes are so good they never wear out...going to need a bigger wardrobe!

I make a promise to your friend James when I visit London I will come to your store. Many times I buy Doctor Martens boots and ending up not to be satisfied. I love my DM boots but I have a promise of something for much better quality in London from your company! I may see you in the future. Your website and the boots look fantastic. M
J. C.
Thank you so much British Boot Company. I've never been able to visit your store in person as I live in Glasgow, but eventually made an online purchase. Got myself a fab pair of 1990s (vintage/rare) DMs - love them. Plus, delivery was great too. Thanks again.
C. R.
Don't waste your time navigating the sea of low quality leather boots around Camden when you can receive not just an amazing product but world class assistance and information right here. The service and knowledge provided by the owner Nick was at a quality equal to the handmade English shoes he provides and shopping here was more than just a purchase but an experience to be remembered. You'll leave with not just a pair of extremely nice boots but also with a better understanding of the entire industry from which they came.
N. J.
My first pair of grinders and I absolutely love them, they are so comfortable and proper quality. Most excellent service, friendly staff, who tailor to your request and even help you to get them on. Never had a experience like this in any shop.Highly recommended, and will definitely be getting another pair in a different style, thank you ever so much Nick.

Got the Solovair boots on 12th Feb. The shop is around the corner from the train station and very easy to navigate to. The prices were slightly more for the boots than the official website but the best thing is that you get to try them on. Additionally, with the delivery prices online, it turns out to be at the same price range. There aren't many Solovair stores in London so was more than delighted to find this gem! The store owners seem to know a lot about the products, guess it comes with 35 years of experience :) Will definitely come back in future once I save for another Solovair.

This was a great find. Excellent selection of styles and you can't beat the quality. Nick was fantastic, great service. There's a reason they've been in business for over 30 years. I wish we had more places like this in the US! I will be a return customer for sure.
J. H.
What can I say about The British Boot Company... outstanding from start to finish. Nick gave me all the help and advice that I needed to purchase these beauties! I love my docs but never knew that this store existed until I saw these online. The service is second to none and he kept me informed regards my order from the beginning and then made sure that they had arrived and that I was completely happy with my purchase. I can’t fault them at all and will be adding more to my collection from them again. Thanks so much guys everything was spot on!
C. E.
If you want high quality shoes from a high quality retailer, this is the only place to go. I bought my first pair of shoes from them 30 years ago and still owned by the same family. Too many cheap imitations in Camden but these are the real deal. Nick is incredibly knowledgeable and doesn't need to hard sell the shoes as they sell themselves
S. W.
I visited for the first time today, looking for boots that would last and are ethically produced. Owner Nick was very knowledgeable and helpful, and I left with the best pair of boots I've ever owned! Thanks!
S. C.
By far the most helpful and knowledgeable people I’ve ever found to buy DM Boots from. An extensive range of styles and the shop has been there as long as I can remember!
Colin really knows his stuff and as well as being extremely helpful.
Would I buy from these guys again? 100% Would I recommend them to friends? 100%
Should you go there to buy your boots? 100%

Exceptional! Tiny shop, big personality, extensive stock. Here’s where Quality, Customer Service, and “Made in England” still really mean something! The place was hopping with customers, but Nick and Colin ensured every single one of us felt welcome, important and cared for. They really listened to what I was looking for and explained differences between cuts, makes, and materials. Their Loake and Solovair exclusives are phenomenal as are their vintage made in England Dr Martens. I walked out of there with two pair of boots and my husband with another—so happy! If you want the real thing from a business that has history and legitimacy…Shop there in-person if you can, or order online if you can’t!

I love coming to this shop. I went today with my brother who HATES shopping but he loved this shopping experience. No fuss, friendly chat and a try on. The first pair, expertly chosen were THE ONES. They are just perfect for him. Dead chuffed. I recommend to anyone who wants to invest in a decent pair of hand made, made in England shoes. 😊
J. P.
Fascinating store with unique, vintage products. Colin was a knowledgeable and detailed salesman who knew his different types of leather and especially the various soles. He gave me a great recommendation which I'm delighted with.

Excellent store with terrific salespeople who are truly passionate about their brand.
I was introduced to the store by a Rangers fan on the street after purchasing a pair of discounted boots from the Doc store in the marketplace and after twisting my arm a bit I came in to his store and was met by a fourth generation owner who told me about the origin of my boots.
I made him a promise on the spot that if my boots were made in Asia, I would return them. It turned out that they were made in Vietnam and I went back to the store and got my refund. The boots I bought from the BBC were 225 pounds but worth every penny. The store owner I remember was Nick because we have the same name and he asked me that if the boots were still in great condition after a few months I should write a review.
That was about 8 months ago now and I'm living up to my promise. My Solovair are perfect, not a mark or a bit of fading and the Doc boots I purchased in the past from stores in Copenhagen, Frankfurt and London all cracked and turned to a complete mess after 5-10 wears.
Guys, thank you for your patience to educate a newby who didn't have any idea about the true nature of Doc Martens and I will be sure to visit again whenever I am in London although I get the feeling I won't need anymore Solovair because these will probably last until I'm 40.
Best wishes!
Nick

My wife and I had such a great experience during our recent visit to the store. The plan was to just get my wife some boots, but after speaking to Colin and listening to his impressive knowledge, I couldn’t help getting some as well! Thank you again Colin, we’ll be back!
R. R.
It was such a welcoming environment home to a vast amount of iconic and timeless shoes. I was served by Nick who taught me a lot about the history of the shop and informed me of the worsening quality of today's dr marten shoes. I was able to find a pair of limited edition pair docs that I was looking for a long time and had not seen in any other shop. The atmosphere was lovely and I would definitely go back. 😊
E. C.
Nice and good advice. The people who runs the store are friendly and well mannered. I got my first pair of made in England solovair!
I did enjoy this experience very much and I would definitely return to buy more beautiful "english made" boots! Nice to meet tom and nick!

Wonderful shop, what London is all about. Friendly, knowledgable, great value and an amazing array of shoes and boots to choose from. Generous with their time and expertise - you’d be mad to go anywhere else (especially because quality really does vary and these guys only stock the very best)
J. L.
I visited the British Boot Company recently after wanting to buy a pair of Solovairs - I've had bad luck with recent Dr. Martens purchases and was after a pair of shoes that would last me for longer than 6 months before falling apart.
The staff were friendly and helpful and absolutely know their stuff when it comes to footwear, with over 30 years experience. This is the real deal - proper handmade boots and shoes (no cost cutting fast fashion factory junk) that only get better over time.
I love my new pair of Oxblood Solovair Gibsons and though it looks like I won't need a replacement any time soon, I'm dying to go back there and get another pair. They look amazing.
If you can, get down to their shop and get yourself a proper pair of shoes, you won't regret it.
D. K.
You want a genuine, quality British boot, go and see Nick at the British Boot Company. I used to buy all my boots here before moving away, now I'm home, this is the only place to go. Passionate and knowledgeable are words you see all over these reviews and they are not used lightly. Worth the extra couple of stops on the tube away from Covent Garden.
S. C.
If you want an authentic HIGH QUALITY pair of Dr Martins, Creepers etc, this is where you need to go. I have just purchased a pair of Royal Blue Creepers (Made in England), YES!!! I said MADE IN ENGLAND!!! This is the second pair of these I've bought from The British Boot Company. I purchased the first pair about fifteen years ago and they are still in great condition. The Dr Martins sold here are made to last, just like the original Dr Martins. They have a huge stock, a massive variety, they are super helpful and knowledgable. I will only buy Doc's from these guys because there is no other Doc dealer who can compare. If your going to Camden for Dr Martins, this store is an institution you must visit.
S. P.
Just called in to have a look, what a welcome. They recognised I was wearing a pair of Strummers I’d bought there before. They’re passionate about their shoes and their customers. Wasn’t even planning on buying anything but got myself a pair of, pretty much unique shoes to add to the collection. So glad I stopped by to say hello. Cheers.
I. I.
Such an amazing shop, simply the best! After buying multiple pairs of boots there, I wouldn't even consider buying them anywhere else. Genuinely the best buyers experience I've ever had. I can't wait to visit the shop again during my next trip to London after the lockdown :)
Highly recommend!
K. G.
Customer service at its best. I, like many other satisfied customers have been using this shop for decades and will continue to do so. Unlike many “brand” stores, the staff at The British Boot Company strive to ensure customers leave the shop with a quality product, one they will be happy with and more importantly, one that will last.
G. S.
Love my boots so much! This is the only place to get your Dr Martens, they are the real experts. So friendly, full of knowledge and good advice. Even let me have the socks I tried them on with so I could wear them straight away 😍
L. C.
A one of a kind store - nothing else like it in the world. They have all the English brands - George Cox, Robot, Solovair - and almost all made in England. Every style and color you can imagine. Just a really fun place to shop but hard to make a decision.
Colin helped me out explaining the history of some of the brands and styles, and made picking out my shoes a real experience. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in London.
S. S.
My husband and I recently bought boots for our wedding in this family owned shop - we have the most comfortable amazing boots now! We felt very welcomed in the shop and Colin's extensive knowledge of the boots made it easy to come to the right boot-decision - thank you!

What a great day. I bought my first British made Doc Martens from here in 1969 age 14. All the lads from our estate got them from here, it was the only acceptable place to go. You was a geezer if you got them from here. Saved for weeks to afford them. Worked on Inverness Streetarket, did a milk round, all sorts. When I finally had the money I went for the cherry red with yellow stitching. Fantastic. Wind forward and last Saturday I took my 14 year old Granddaughter up to Camden because she wanted a pair. She thought she was going into the main high street to one of the many shops selling the inferior Chinese and Vietnamese DM's. I told her the tale of this little shop the other side of the station where all the "proper people" go to get their boots. She was amazed when she walked in. The guy in charge, Nick, knew it was her first pair and guided her in choice and quality. We took our time, tried on things, but, being a baby Goth, settled on the classic black with yellow stitching. She loved them. When we came out, she said she felt like a proper geezer going to that shop. It hasn't changed at all. It oozes atmosphere. The range is extraordinary,. There is literary a boot for everyone one here. Why pay a bit less for boots that will crack and crease and make your feet sweat when for a bit more you get the real mcoy which, with a bit of TLC will last you for years. By the way Nick, I will be back for those suede American brogues mate, just got to get another milk round to help pay for them. This place is the dogs danglies. Everyone, at sometimes needs to own a pair of DM's and, without a doubt, this is the go to place.
J. V.
Such a great shopping experience, even better when you find out you’re purchasing your sick boots at the very first Doctor Martens store in the world! Proud to own my very first doc marts and I have no regrets purchasing it in The British Boot Company <3 I would like to personally thank Jim, Nick, Andy and Colin! Thanks for being the coolest people I've met in London :) Hope to see you guys real soon!
G. N. M.
When someone asks you to rattle of some reasons why you wear doc martens the same stuff usually bubbles to the surface; History, culture, longevity. I remember getting my first pair of Docs as a kid in the 90s and the footprints the instantly recognisable star print sole left in the mud. But much like the sole the quality of the boots Dr.martens sell now are nothing like the reputation the brand built. A trusted friend who is old enough to remember when docs were good told me about solovairs and told me about the British boot company and on her word of mouth I went down to look. Half an hour of deep and interesting chat later I was walking out with a brand new pair of 11 hole steelies and a massive smile on my face. The quality and attention to detail of this shop and the product it sells speaks for itself and with more and more of my friends moving to solovairs from docs I know that my days of buying modern cheap fast fashion docs are gone. The doc martens of the past are dead but if you want a boot that's exactly what a leather boot should be come here and buy some solovairs.
R. L. T.
Bought a beautiful pair of authentic boots today. The guys in the shop are so passionate and we chatted for ages about the decline of Doc Martens. Such a shame that money comes before quality in big business.
Also reminisced about going into the shop with my dad in the 60s and 70s. He got his shoes custom made there.
I bought a pair of cherry red Docs there about 20 years ago - they’ve been through storm, rain, mud and rough terrain. Even took them on holiday to Barbados and they’re still going strong.
If you want quality these are definitely your guys
D. M.
Nick has been fitting my 15yo lad in school shoes for years. These new size 13 Royal Mail Dr Martins look fantastic and they're so comfortable he won't take them off!

Now, even more than ever we need to supporting our local economy.
Where better to invest your cash than the ‘British Boot Company’.
With their passion for British brands, and the ethics behind not outsourcing to sweatshops abroad, where child and slave labour is prevalent, you can be assured you’re buying a quality product without the horror behind its production.
Today we met and spoke to Nick and Tom; two great guys with a passion for their brand. They gave us a more in-depth history of the store and why they have such pride in their products; and rightly so.
We shall be back to stock up on our shoes and boots in the near future.

Lovely guys running the shop. So helpful and patient and found me a specific pair of boots from 1992.
Thanks so much!!
N. J. H.
Friendly staff and amazing service! I was a little nervous getting my first pair of quality british boots but Nick and Andy eased me in and answered a lot of my questions. They are passionate about the heritage of their boots and is the only store I've been to where the staff know their product well. Highly recommended!

Just bought my first pair of 8 highs for 30 years and my first pair of Solovairs. Love them and love this shop, it's a London landmark. Thanks to Nick for the banter, sorry to have missed Jim spewing insight into the Chinese brand but congratulations on the wedding.

This is the story. I bought "original" and "authentic" DM boots from the store in Camden back in May. I met one guy who told me to purchase my boots at the first ever store and I ignored him.
At the market, this shopped looked genuine and the real deal. I bought shoes for 79 pounds and they split at the toe when I was breaking them in in my hotel room that night.
I had just finished quarantine returning from Amsterdam and wanted to treat myself to new boots. I took them back and they said I should use glue myself and fix them. I protested and eventually after around 40 minutes I was given a new pair.
I returned to Maidstone where I live and a similiar thing happened again except this time the stitching burst on the side and part of the sole had a gap which I could see through.
I made a point of taking a trip back in to London the following week and asked for another exchange. The Camden store told me "we don't sell these boots. You're trying to scam us!"
O.M.G!!!
They refused to exchange them and called me a conman. I emailed the company and told them what happened. I have never received a reply and it is now almost 3 months later.
So, on Sunday I was going back to London to see friends and I took my broken boots to the Oxford Street store. They gave me a full refund no questions asked and when I called the Camden store pretending to be someone else and asked them if they still had the shoes in stock, they said they did.
I'm not making any of this up.
I wish I could've found the British company of Docs rather than the official store in the market, but I was oblivious and now know the truth.
Total con artists selling this busted up junk!
L.
1. Nick is knowledgeable in terms of the boots that he sells. Being in the business for decades, this should be expected.
2. The service is excellent; Nick was accomodating when I asked to try different styles.
3. Price is a bit more expensive than Solovair’s website. The reason, he said was, the particular style that I bought was produced by Solovair for The British Boot Company. Meaning it is custom-made only for them. The usual Dealer boot has a ‘classic’ sole, but this customised one has a ‘commando’ sole and no grey stitching. I’m not sure if I like the bulky commando sole and no stitching, to be honest. I like the sleeker ‘usual/classic’ one better. But Nick said this is more durable. Still, I’m not sure the GBP 40-50 increase is justifiable since the ‘commando’ sole’s price on the website is the same as ‘classic.’
4. Size - He said that I am size 7UK, basing only on the length. It felt OK in the store. However, when I got to the hotel, I tried fitting again and thought it was too small. I fitted and walked around my hotel room to make sure for 5-10 mins, and I got blisters at my lower ankle/upper heel. It’s too small! So I went back the next day to try size 8; they were OK for me to try. And the staff said that size 8 was too big for me (but in terms of how snug it felt, I know that was my size - 8), and they don't have half sizes. So I got the larger size and just bought a separate insole from Solovair’s website.
5. Quality - I don’t know yet as I haven’t worn this pair of Solovairs for an extended period. I noticed they are not as flawless as the DM’s, but I care more about durability. I hope it is sturdier.
6. They accept both cash and card, so that’s good.
7. Aftersales - So far, good. Having been able to exchange the smaller size for a larger one without issues. But in terms of the warranty, in case there will be issues in the future, I don’t know yet.
8. Improvements - They should lessen bashing DM’s because they still sell the brand in-store.

Being a Doc Martens virgin but wanting a pair forever, I turned to a friend for advice on where to go get myself a pair. He said, hands down, The British Boot Company was THE place to go. Being easily distracted, my walk through Camden was wrought full of the usual delights....but then I spotted this gorgeous specimen of (what turned out to be) a Scotsman...and wouldn’t you know, he’s carrying a sign for, of all places, The British Boot Company....how lucky am I? Far from shy, I asked for directions....he told me to follow him. Ha! Like try to stop me.....I mean, gorgeous like in I’d follow him through the gates of hell....but I digress....the shop is AMAZING! these folks sold the first pair of Doc Martens EVER! Who would know more than these guys? Nick, the charismatic owner, quickly sized up my needs, came out from the back with the perfect pair and laced them up with my foot on this thigh.
Love at first sight....
Amazing group of folks here. Awesome vibe. Superb customer service. Go there. Today. Buy a pair of boots. You won’t be sorry.

Nice boot shop with a friendly crew.
Me and my girlfriend own 3 pairs of Solovair boots.
Highly recommend.

What can I say... AMAZING
My boyfriend had followed the British Boot Company on instagram for a while, so whilst we were down in London last week we decided to visit. We didnt plan on staying for right long, let alone buy anything, but Nick soon changed that lol! An hour and half later and £600 well spent, we walked out of the shop with our new purchases on our feet!!!
The shop dosnt look like much from the outside, but once your in it's a little treasure cave! From Doc's to Solovairs to Grinders... there's something for everyone. Piled high from floor to ceiling is boots and shoes and the boxes they came in. It's amazing! From vintage to brand new, you wont be disappointed.
Nick's thirst for knowledge and passion for the products shines through. Every question or query we had, he had no problem answering. We were allowed to try on multiple pairs of boots (even the rare ones!) and Nick even laced up every single pair I tried on... you definatly wouldnt get that treatment in the doc shop lol! Nick even rang his suppliers to enquire about a pair my boyfriend was looking for. The customer service is just absolutly brilliant, and I couldnt fault it!
We will be definitely be back again, dont you worry!

As an aficionado of the Solovair Boot I ordered some high shine Burgundy rub off Dealers. Now I thought I was the only person who had an eye for the small details of Solovair boots but I’m not as I ended up in a fantastic long conversation with the British Boot Company owner. We talked about the history of the AirWear sole, styles, other makes etc. Sorry if you were trying to get through that day and the phone was engaged, my fault.
Anyway cut to the chase. After our long chat British Boot Company did me a favour and took my Dealers to the NPC Factory for some slight alterations but unfortunately with Covid lockdowns, staff isolations etc the boots got waylaid. It was a great shame but to be honest I had nowhere to wear them to so I wasn’t too worried and the fact the shop kept me totally informed with updates I was kept at ease.
The boots arrived and they are absolutely beautiful and I’ve been told they are the last Barrelled souled Solovairs in the World.
Thank-you so much British Boot Company you really are a shop that stands out.
G. O.
Being the owner of 3 pairs of George Cox's,already, I had been eying up the Burgundy Rub-Off Gibsons for, what seemed like an eternity. On a visit to London a few weeks back, I made the pilgrimage to the "Cave of Wonders" that is The British Boot Company. Spent some quality time with the very affable Nick and emerged(some time later😁) with the abovementioned shoes. I should say, I'm a 60 year-old, generally, grumpy c***, but this made me happy. Hope to visit again 👍👍👍👍👍
PS Complimentary insoles , as I'd "sized-up" (just incase )

Where Rockers buy shoes! Highly recommended from Italy!
This legendary spot in the heart of Camden is the place to go if you are looking for top quality traditional shoes handmade in Northamptonshire.
One year ago I was struggling to find a "real" handmade pair of Docs in London fitting my size in black, not possible in the main Dr. Martens shops around the city.
When I ended up in Camden Town I asked where to buy a pair of boots to some local punks laying in front of the market asking help to get drunk! :)
They were happy to take me to the original shop where I found very welcoming guys explaining me he full history of British boots. I found a great pair of Solovair boots with high quality lasting leather, that also resulted very comfortable after few hours of wearing only.
Very satisfied with the product selection experience and happy to go back!

This is a great place to go even if you've just got a vague idea of what you are looking for. These friendly chaps have good advice to find the right pair of shoes. Absolutely great service, will defo come back to this place, where you also feel history - highly recommended!!
P. E.
So happy the British Boot Company is still in business.. amazing shop, amazing stock, amazing service!! Colin served me this time, so knowledgeable and helped me get the perfect fit! Love my new Grinders .. love the British Boot Company!!
M. T.
Absolutely an amazing old sk👀l shop selling Doctor Martin boots,George Cox and the amazing Robot shoes which had a shop on the old Kings road back in the eighties ,which I remember visiting. These products are all made in England and not the poor Quality of the mass produced Doctor Martin shops......Will definitely be back to purchase a pair of the the high top and low top chucka Robot shoes.....Thanks Nick and Tom for a lovely chat and awesome retail experience.
E. H.
I bought my first pair of docs here 10 years ago when I finished my GCSEs, always remembered the lovely personal service here, so came back when my docs got knackered from walking miles in mud, dancing, going to festivals etc. Got my second pair and just the same lovely service, the owner had lots of time to chat, made sure I had the boots and fit I wanted. Would totally recommend for quality!!!! Will definitely be back in the next 10/20/30 years!! Very sad that the "official" doc shop is awful quality these days. This is the place to go for good quality and long lasting boots and friendly customer service.
J. C.
Impeccable helpful and friendly service from store owner Nick, I’ve come out rocking a fresh pair of white Joe Strummer George Cox creepers, which are, in his words ‘a real handsome pair’. Thanks again Nick!
M. G. H.
THE place to buy boots in London. The staff are passionate about what they sell and are very knowledgeable. Investing in a pair of boots here, even though they're more expensive, is absolutely worth the security of knowing that they will last ten times as long (so you're actually saving a lot of money in the long run) and weren't made in a sweatshop by underpaid children (unlike a certain other boot provider in Camden). Best boot store I've ever been in.
S. B.
My wife knew these boots were the real deal as soon as I got home. Thanks for pointing out the difference in the real product and the junk they sell at the officially haggard DM store.
You guys rock!
M. A.
I passed by this store on the way to Doc Martens, with every intention to purchase the DM Chelsea boot. A similar pair of boots caught my eye. The store owner Nick was attentive and patient as I asked questions and tried on several sizes.
He shared a surprising article by The Guardian where several customers complained their DM boots fell apart after a couple wears and received no customer service. Turns out, DM now outsources in Thailand, Vietnam and Bangladesh, where the quality has decreased. (Take a look at reviews for yourself).
Within 30 mins of trying on boots, 4 dif customers came in (who were obviously regulars and die-hard boot fans) to make purchases. They assured me that all their boots purchased from TBBC have lasted numerous years.
In the end, I ended up purchasing boots from TBBC instead of the DM ones (they are gorgeous, look expensive and durable quality). Just to be sure, I went to Doc Marten afterwards to compare the boots and the difference was clear.
I'm so happy with my purchase (slightly more expensive but at least I know they'll last a lifetime). There is an obvious difference in quality, fabric, make, durability, style and customer service.
Nick was also honest and helpful, he suggested another boot company in Brighton who makes similar vegan boots worth investing in. It was great to support a local company and buy authentic Chelsea boots made in England!

This shop is legendary! Formerly known as A.H. HOLTS. They specialize in “Made in England” shoes and boots by some of the best brands to come out of the UK. All new and most are 20 years and over so you are getting brands like Dr. Marten when they were made in what some would consider their prime (materials and parts wise). The staff is engaging and very passionate about providing you with the best quality England has had to offer. Many of their ‘Modern Dr. Martens’ are exclusive lines only sold in this location! This means fining leather in most cases even if they are marked as ‘Made in Thailand’.
The expectations here are...
* Legacy
* Supports a family business that some would say was the first to sell brands like Dr. Martens!
* The finest ‘Made in England’ shoes and boots from brands like Solivar, Grinders, and of course Dr. Martens
* You will pay a premium for these new yet vintage treasures
S. A.
Very cool boot shop with a ton of options. I was seriously surprised at the number of different boots were in the store. Most are Doc Martens but there are a couple other nice brands available. The guy working the shop knew absolutely everything and had all the answers. Great service and great selection.
S. E.
An excellent shop for British-made footwear, I really wish I had known about this place years ago when I actually lived in London. Now it will have to be a must stop by place every time I visit the city. I went in on the off chance having been greeted by Tom while I was browsing the window display. I am a relatively new convert to British-made shoes; I have had my Solovair Chelsea boots for a year and they are just wonderful, worlds better than any plasticky (Made by kids in Cambodia!) Doc Martens tat you can find nearby in Camden.
Nick is really knowledgeable about each shoe design and the design and manufacturing process in each of the brands he stocks. This is important to me, to know that I'm not funding dodgy business practice, and I felt really good walking out of the shop with my brand new Loake original loafers. I'm going to tell everyone I know about this shop! True British quality, friendly staff and real heritage brands.
A. A.

Fantastic British company selling high quality boots made in the UK. With so much manufacturing now moved out of the uk it is great to have a shop that stocks such wonderful boots made here. The range is incredible. I brought a pair of Solovair boots only available here with bespoke leather. The customer service is second to none. Highly recommend giving these guys a visit and supporting a fantastic local business.
A. P. A.
The British Boot Company is a living museum of the rich history of the rock'n'roll, punk, ska and reggae cultures in the UK. You won't only buy a pair of boots there. You will learn about the whole inclusive social-cultural movement since the 50's when working-class boots became the ultimate piece of identification for a legion of the fans of good music.
The people who work there are so nice and inspiring while helping us understand the origins and the history of the boots. And the boot shop is a family business from 1851.
Original Doctor Martens made in the UK are only sold here and in a couple of small local shops in the world. Also: try other brands too.
If I would give myself a piece of advice a couple of years ago, I would say to only buy my Doc Martens boots there.
I am thankful for all the learning.
J. B.
I've been buying from these great guys for over 30 years. It is THE place for iconic British Brands. The shop itself is legendary, and it is based on selling high quality boots and shoes that are genuinely made in England. Back in the day when they were made in England I bought Doc Martens there. Now I buy Loakes - because I want to support English jobs and companies. Today I bought these Loake Brogues. Support the original and the best. Shop here. Highly Recommended!
k. d.
i went in the store with american doc martins on and came out with a stunning pair of authentic british ones. i never understood how comfy these boots are and i haven’t worn any other shoe since i bought them 5 days ago. you can tell the quality of the shoe and the dedication of nick. if these boots ever wear out i’ll be back to buy another pair!
P. G.
It is very rare, in this world, to find a place that is so authentic, so true to itself, where the owner and the staff will take all the time in the world to educate you about their products. I bought my first Doc Martens here in 1987, and brought my daughter today. Nick, now the owner, was likely in the shop all those years ago. It was just a magic experience all around. To those buying on the internet, you can trust this store 100%. To the lucky ones who can visit in person, do yourselves a favour and set aside some quality time and don’t rush the experience. This place and the people who work there are very, very special. We will be back soon I hope.
All the best,
Peter

Bought a pair of solovair and got a great service. There are no boot shops like this in Germany. We were introduced to British Boot manufacturers and told about their history, which was very interesting for us. Additionally the service guy which name we unfortunately forgot showed us how to lace British boots properly.
We spent a good amount of money but felt we got very good value for it!
Cheers from Germany

The shop caught my eye when walking past and I had to check it out. Amazing! Fantastic place with real heart. Bought myself some amazing boots that I’m in love with. Colin the manager and the lovely owner (who’s name I’ve forgotten! Sorry!) were so great. I’ll definitely be back here for my next boots.

The British Boot Company is a really friendly shop. All of the staff are always very welcoming and go the extra mile for there customers. That was the first thing I noticed when I went to buy my first pair of Doc Martens - I had the honour of dealing with Nick who showed me all the different styles to chose from and was beyond knowledgeable. I ended up with the Dr Martens 1460 Boots. Nick also told me how to keep them looking their best. I highly recommend the British Boot Company. Thanks again Nick.
E. W.
Having visited the shop in the past, when I needed to order a new pair of boots I was delighted to find the shops online service is just as friendly and efficient as their face to face service.
I managed to buy my boots in the january sale with an amazing 50% discount! 14 eye Dr Marten boots are hard to find, so I was delighted to get a pair so well designed and shaped.
The boots have arrived well packaged and in perfect condition.
A massive thank you to staff who have gone above and beyond to keep me in the loop regards postage and delivery times.
Highly recommend purchasing from this store. X

I had been loyal to Dr Martens for many years, but the poor quality of my last few pairs meant I had to change.
I felt nervous about transferring my allegiances but luckily the wonderful people at British Boot Company held my hand throughout the transition. They have such a wide collection of boots and such vast knowledge that I realised that with Solovair I could get the DMs look but with British quality.
The staff were so patient with my indecisiveness and gave great advice. No problem or question was too challenging nor too menial. I absolutely love the pair of boots I ended up with and know I wouldn’t have found them on my own.
It was an entirely authentic British experience throughout - from the stock, to the history and the customer service. I love that it is a family business - what a shame that there aren’t more shops like this on our high streets.
E. B.
Such a unique shop in the universe. came back all the way from France just to get pair number 2 there. Thank you Nick for your advices and passion, 100% trust. Looking forward to get the number 3 !
R. W.
Really friendly and very knowledgeable staff and I can highly recommend the British Boot Company.
I was visiting the area and, knowing I needed some good quality shoes, I popped into the shop. I told them exactly what requirements I wanted and they had the perfect pair of shoes for me. I ended up buying a pair of Solovairs, which look amazing and fit like they were custom made for me.
After my purchase I was also told about the best way to care for my new shoes.
This is a small independent British shop and you get that extra bit of good service here. As I said earlier, very highly recommended indeed.

If you are looking for authentic British products, this is the place you want to go. Loved this store, Staff is not only an expert about their product by they create a great experience, they are passionate about their product, take time to explain many details of the making process, design, etc… 👌. Nedless to say that they perfectly spotted what I was looking for. Love my boots !
N. S.
Awesome service by the team and the only store with the original Made In England DMs! Travelled all the way from SG to get the vintage 90s collection! London is not complete without visiting the store and proudly bringing home that must-have DM! Thank you for the humble yet awesome service!
L. S.
An incredible shopping experience that will not be forgotten. The staff in this shop have a genuine passion for providing their customers with quality British shoes.
They stock a wide range of British made footwear including but not limited to Solovair, Loake, Grinders and George Cox.
I visited this shop as i wanted an alternative to Dr Martens (serious quality decline since being made out of the UK) and found that they stocked Solovair, the range that they offered in-store vastly blew my expectations away and i walked away with a gorgeous pair of Oxblood rub off Dealer Boots.
Shops like this are becoming increasingly rare and is a breath of fresh air to discover upon the sea of many unit shifting high street footwear shops.
G. O.
Excellent service, very informative, came in to get a new pair for my partner whose latest pair of DM's cracked within weeks. Will stick with Solovairs for life now.
C. S. I.
I've wanted a pair of Cherry Red 1914s since '91 and was so happy Nick & Colin from The British Boot Company had an original pair in- stock from the 90's! Choose the British Boot Company 1st for your hard-to-find Dr. Martens and rare one of kind Made In England footwear! I will visit the store in person one day, until then E-commerce all the way from the UK to the USA!
L. C.
Could not recommend Brit boot more, a real knowledge of the history and quality behind real brands that matter. Have bought multiple pairs of George Cox here that’ll last me my life. Amazing service
G.
This place has hardly changed since my first visit in the 1980s.
Knowledgeable friendly staff, great quality shoes and boots, what's not to like?!
So much more rewarding than shopping in a soulless chainstore, and you can be confident that the product hasn't been produced in a sweatshop by a child!
A. M.
I've been looking for a pair of dr martens for awhile but I've noticed my friends who purchased pairs, their boots look awful after awhile and lose their shape and look cheap. I tried on a pair at the dr martens store at Westfield and as I slipped my foot into the boot I could feel how hard the material felt and they were super painful. The people at the store told me they were the vintage made in England edition but they didnt look any different or feel any different to the others in. I then went to camden a few days later and I yl the British Boot company and tried on a pair and they felt soft and amazing they looked great! You could tell they were made with real leather and they weren't cheap! I bought them and wore them the same day around camden and they were super comfortable! The shop owner and staff were amazing and I'll definitely be going back and letting everyone I know not to buy from the Dr Martens stores! I'm so happy I decided to wait and go to the British Boot Company!!!!

I am guilty of buying a pair of what I thought were DMs boots from what I thought was an original dm outlet... Only to be spotted my a lovely gentleman who pointed out .. that I had been miss sold a cheeper nasty pair . Went to the British boot company shop... Wow.. what a beautiful sight too see and smell too . The staff are off my opinion old school . Polite willing to help . Nothing to much trouble to sort out 😁😁😁😁 big smiles. Well done on making this lady very happy on my purchase. You are all incredible. May your business be running for many years too come . As long as this store exists I will remain a loyal customer. Nick, the owner is quite possibly the best shop owner I’ve ever interacted with! His patience with my indecision, lack of knowledge and especially my incessant questioning is impressive to say the least! He went above and beyond the call of duty to find me the perfect pair of boots.... and they are PERFECT! I’m thrilled with them. Not to mention that they got over to me here in California in record time.
Look no further, this shop is THE BEST!!
S. P.
British Boot Company aka Holts is the goto shop for Dr. Martens and other high-quality brands of traditional footwear. They carry a wide range of all the traditional styles as well as some very rare vintage pairs not to be had elsewhere. If you are looking for something special have a lookin the shop or definitely give the owner Nick Roumana a call. If Nick doesn't have it chances are he can get it. He was able to locate a pair of white GettaGrips that my then girlfriend wanted to get married in, odd style and size but Nick found them.I have probably purchased a half dozen pairs or so over the years , some mail-order as I live in the states but most thru visits to the shop on holiday. Every pair has held up over the years and still worn to this day!
S. M.
I had a wonderful experience shopping here. They had a wide range of products from different brands, as well as boots that were specific to only their shop in terms of leather and sole thickness (more durable than others). Its owners were all lovely, and we chatted for ages. I really valued being able to get advice from them on which boots to buy, as it meant I could walk away secure in the knowledge that I had bought the pair that was best suited to me. I also spent forever in the shop without feeling rushed by the shopkeepers at all, which was brilliant since I am an incredibly indecisive shopper. I found out about this shop online, and then they were subsequently also recommended to me by a friend, so it is clear that they have a satisfied customer base. All in all I would definitely recommend this shop to others who are looking to buy boots of good quality.
W. Z.
got myself a cool pair of boots from the shop last week and my wife is very impressed. she always hated docs and said they were cheap and plastic looking from when i bought in the shop in wembley but this time i came back and she didn't even reconise them as docs. solavwear brand boots look and feel authentic and my wifes family even said DESIGNER when they saw the real qualuty. emazing and i promise not to go back to dm shop. nick is good guy and i feel i have to be in these boots for a very long time to come in the future no doutte.
P. P.
Got myself a pair of Solovair boots here last week. Feels good to support a small dedicated shop like this & I would recommend it for its good service!
S. C.
Back once again for Solovair. Thank you British Boot Company. See you in five years.
M.
As returning customer, today was my sixth time getting Martens and been coming over 11 years.
All I’m gonna say, come, visit, buy. You will not regret.
S. G.
Recently bought another pair of Grinders boots, this time the Super Kings. Absolutely stunning boots. Great quality as always and a pleasure to open and wear. I love them. Also great service from Nick and the whole crew there.
R. P.
I've been buying from The British Company since 2006 - and with good reason. They have the best quality and best range of any shoe shop I've ever been to thoughtout the UK. The Grinders in particular are the best shoes & boots I've ever had. Combine that with knowledgeable & friendly staff - esp the owner, Nick - will answer any questions you have. Also, the online sevice & email response is impeccable. Highly recommended - shoes & boots to last you a liferime.
L. P.
Rocking my pair of solovair boots for a year wearing them all the time. Love quality and how they look
A. S.
Great service and collection of George Cox, DMS, and Solovair. Knows a lot about shoes. Only took cash. Very happy with purchase.
S. C.
Ahhh Doc Martens. By any other name could be as awesome. There is nothing better than a dinky di pair of worn- in Docs for any occasion, from wedding to work to watermelons to windy weather. (Just had to keep the alliteration going thus the windy weather and watermelons) this shop looks super awesome and is TOTALLY on my bucket list. If you are lucky enough to be able to visit, go right now and buy some boots, man!
J. S.
What a fantastic company to deal with and goes to prove that small independent companies are willing to go well above what you would normally consider good customer service.
Can only describe service as superb!
Not being able to visit the shop due to living elsewhere in country is no barrier. I couldn't see what I wanted online so made a telephone enquiry. Nick kindly sent me photos of what was in stock in my size - and 2 pairs of Dr Martens delivered by courier today! ( Along with some Loakes also ordered)
Can highly recommend British Boot Company - and if you can't see what you want on their website, phone or email and ask - very knowledgeable and friendly staff who really care about their customers.
S. C.
What a wonderful company run by wonderful people. I bought a pair of Dr Marten sandals from them via eBay & then asked them if they could locate another pair of the same style. Colin searched their stock room & found the elusive sandals that I was desperate for. They had become separated from their box. I think they must be the last pair in the whole world as I've spent quite some time trying to find them. I then went for another pair in a different style & DPD sent me confusing messages as to when they were arriving. I phoned the seller & Nick was very helpful. I finally had a tracking number to check the progress of my parcel. It arrived this morning so I phoned again to thank them & spoke with Tom & then Nick the owner. We had a long chat & he gave me loads of advice. It's just a shame I live 300mls from the store in London as I would have loved to visit. Going to keep them foremost in my memory when I need any more Dr Martens as that's the only footwear I have for my feet but I know the company has an amazing range of other makes too.

One of my favorit shops in London, a family business that sells
exceptional quality boots with rare custumer service.
You will find variety products of highets quality in this shop.
Nick the owner of the shop is Top notch, he will help you find exactly what you are looking for. I have been buying my boots here for years.
The British boots company simply never goes wrong. highly recomended!
A. A.
Incredible service, knowledgable staff, a great selection of quality boots. Thanks particularly to Nick for the great pair of Docs!
K. V.
This is a unique family business where clients matter!
We bought a beautiful pair of black doctor Martens boots, in high quality, soft glove leather, different from the hard, rigid leather you find in other shops,. My daughter wears them with pride!
It was our first visit to this shop and we have been helped in a very nice and kind way. When we were home again, we still had a few questions and even then they explained everything patiently and thoroughly, we felt they care about their customers, even when they live overseas.
The shoes are not cheap, which is logic because of the high quality leather.
If you want a beautiful, unique pair of boots, this family business is the place to be; their high quality product line, their good advice, their friendly customer service and aftercare are the reason to go back.
B. D.
These guys are where it's at!
I walked in and was asked my shoe size. These were brought out from the back. There was no way anyone knew I wanted a pair of 1926's since Adam was an Ant. If you're told what shoe to buy by these gentlemen, they're probably right. Next time I'm in London, I'll be stopping by.
N. T.
I was trying to find a pair of George Cox creepers and came across this shop after my dad had recommended it to me. I was instantly welcomed in by Nick and Tom, and can honestly say was one of the best shopping experiences I've had. They are extremely knowledgable and friendly and since visiting I have not shut up to my friends about how amazing The British Company is (and how terrible Doc Martens and Underground England are hahah). I'm already looking forward to my next visit to buy a pair of Grinders!:)
J. B.
Great bunch of guys, top quality footwear and the only place to go in Camden if you want authentic, old school, British quality goods that will last a lifetime.
Keep up the good work, boys!
P. S.
Andy is a gimp :-)
P.S. P.S.
Actually is, by the way; no even lying...

Amazing shop ! Way better than the « official » doc martens shops you can find in the city. Best quality products and way more colors and choices with exclusives and vintage products for true fans. Ask James for a 5 stars service !
D.
I found this company as I'd been searching for a pair of Englander Solovairs for a while. I ordered online the staff were great at keeping me up to date, very friendly. The boots are perfect I absolutely I love them. Can't wait to visit the store in person on my next visit to London! Thank you again.

I got a pair of Dr Martens exactly where you should get them ! It's more than just buying some shoes in this shop. Olivier and Nick are the helpful, nice and very available for their customers. Thanks guys!
A. B.
After my experience with the 'made in Engla...CHINA' Dr Martens from the Dr Martens Store, I walked into this shop and came away with not just the best pair of boots that I've owned but thanks to Nick (the owner) and Tom, I also walked away with the best experience I've had buying boots or even shoes for that matter and I still am confident I made the right choice in boots and shop.
Nick took time to talk me through history and quality of the boots I already had and the pair that I purchased, whilst also finding me a pair that suited my needs and explained why. I'll be buying my next pair of Solovair boots from here.
Seriously, do yourself a favour and buy your next pair of boots from this shop.
Support your local independent businesses.

I went into the Dr Marten store in The Stables in Camden and was refused entry as I did not want a squirt of their hand sanitizer...later in the day I stumbled across The British Boot company and it is an absolute gem. The best selection of high quality boots in London, and they sell REAL Dr Martens, not the fake plastic that you get in the Dr Martens store. The guys in there are passionate about what they sell and we had a great conversation. Don't bother wasting your time going to Dr Marten store for rubbish service and cheap plastic shoes, go and get the real thing.

Great Family shop in Camden with amazing customer service, had to exchange my beautiful Solovair boots for one size bigger and they were very helpful and reactive! One of the last remaining local - family businesses in Camden unfortunately .. that is why it is so important to support them! So check it out if you are looking for great boots and a unique/memorable experience xx

The British Boot Company! The truth lies in the name- a shop selling true British made Boots. The price of a true British Boot can never be too much; not when the lasting quality can join you in life's narrative and never let you down (A world apart from the false plastic Doc intent on destroying the true British Boot craftsmanship.) I was feeling defeated, "will I ever get a true British made boot again? " Fearing the worst...I would have to settle for a plastic Doc, I searched out independent stores and found this gem. What a relief! I fell head over heels with my first boots bought from The British Boot Company and without another thought purchased 5 more pairs (the price of a true British Boot is never too much.) The owner Nick and his fellow crew are a true representation of British ethics found only in British independent stores. Their attitude, knowledge, design (Nick's double soled Grinders ) and commitment to true British Boot craftsmanship is what the iconic British Boot is all about. Thank you!
K. M.
I bought a pair of GRINDERS BULLDOG X Smooth leather a year ago.
They are rock solid to date.
Proud to have a pair of these.
Special thanks to Nick!
Has made my experience visiting The British Boot Comcany shop exciting and memorable

First bought boots in here in 1983 from Alex's grandfather. In 2021 a pair of Solovairs. Brilliant shop. Part of London culture. Don't buy online folks - make a trip to Alex's shop.
J. L.
Excellent customer service and commitment to supplying quality products. Nick was especially helpful with understanding my requirements and his extensive product knowledge.
R. F.
I used to collect parcels from these guys as part of my work. So when I popped back to visit and look at some boots I got some words of advice from the owner Nick.
Hugely helpful and advised me to return my then Doc Marten boots (Made in Laos) to the DM shop, Carnaby St.
Once I did that I returned and purchased 2 pairs of boots. Both pairs are Solovair and are of great GB quality.
I shall return for more Solovairs :)

It was an absolute pleasure to walk in and receive such excellent service from extremely knowledgeable staff, in this instance - Colin.. As the name suggests The British Boot Company is a treasure trove of boots, from English manufacturers and proudly still "Made in England"!
I went into the shop looking for a particular and somewhat obscure model/type of boot, and whilst they had the particular boot in question unfortunately they didn't have my size; Unperturbed, Colin, (after a brief discussion), now knowing precisely what I was looking for, went out the back, and after a brief period, returned with a vintage pair of boots which were precisely what I wanted - fantastic!
If you reside in the Camden area, or even further afield, and are looking for a pair of boots, be they Doc Martens, Solovair, etc., etc., do yourself a favour and venture into the Aladin's cave that is The British Boot Company, you will not be disappointed with either their range nor the quality of service.

My husband and I have been going to this Doc Marten boot shop exclusively for 25 years (no cheap, toxic, knock-offs made by children in Asia at the rip—off chain Doc Martens for us!!). It’s absolutely a pleasure to buy the best quality, unique boots from such a friendly, knowledgeable person as Nick. When you own and wear your comfy, stylish boots you definitely own a piece of British history because rest assured, you can be proud that all his items are made in England! Can’t tell you how many compliments we receive on Nick’s boots because the styles are wicked cool and the leather is the highest quality!! Have Nick explain to you about how his products are made— once you know, you’ll never shop anywhere else!!
L. F.
Who would know it was just a tiny vintage store that started the whole trend?
I loved this place and thank you to all the people who served us.
You guys were incredible!
The boots in here are amazing quality and you can tell as soon as you walk inside that there is a huge difference between these and what they sell in the Doc Martens store.
Jim gave us a huge scare on the street when he came up behind us, but it was for a good reason and we think it was worth it in the end!
We still have our boots and our summer trip to London was the best time for us, but these boots were part of the reason and we won't forget to visit again in the future.

First class. Great customer service and great boots. I’ve been buying boots here for a few years now and never had a bad experience.
I remember when I first went inside the shop, having walked past many times. I was a bit taken aback by how forthright and passionate about boots the blokes were in there. What shone through though, was that they knew exactly what they were talking about and wanted to give the best advice and service they could. What more could you want? I’ve seen a couple of reviews that didn’t like this style. Fair enough and each to their own, but if you only want to be told what you’ve already decided that you want to hear, then it’s probably not worth asking in the first place. My advice would be to take theirs!
At the British Boot Company you can find some real rarities, boots you won’t find anywhere else. Boots that have long since stopped being made. Sometimes that means paying a bit more but isn’t that how it goes? Plus all the advice is free and from people who know what they’re talking about.
I recently ordered the wrong size of boots and had to return them via the post due to the pandemic and lockdown etc. Even so, I had the replacement boots exchanged and delivered 2 days after I sent the wrong size boots back. In the current climate, I’d say that’s pretty good!
If there was ever a time to support small business, local business and business that is as rich in history as this place, then surely it is now. Go and see them (when we’re allowed) or online. You won’t regret it.
Cheers all at the British Boot Company, and I hope next year is a better one!

I always love comping to this shop. Full of history, the best shoes in the world and great workers. Thanks for keeping the history of good quality shoes alive.
J. D.
A really unique iconic shop with the best range of British boots in the world. Nick is a great salesman, is an expert on the products he sells and engages in a great way with customers to make sure that they get exactly what they want and are really satisfied customers. I love going to the shop.
K.
Most amazing collection of exquisitely high-quality British boots anywhere! So many beautiful colors and grades of leather, I had a hard time choosing - but Colin was wonderfully friendly and helpful in assisting with my decision. I walked out in a pair of Solovairs that I'm just in love with! Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Much better experience then buying shoes sight unseen online or from a chain shoe shop; will certainly be coming back when I'm in need of new boots again!
J. P.
Great shop, great product and choise. I am not sure I have ever met a shop keeper with such a passion for his trade.
See you soon
S. L.
This little shop is an absolute gem.
When I first walked in it reminded me of shoe shops from the 70s where boxes of shoes are piled up on shelves. Greeted straight away by a friendly chap who told us about the history of the place and the shoes & boots made in England. Returned the next day to buy our boots. I had the navy blue Doc Martens made of the softest leather
and returned again the following day to buy Loakes loafers!
It was nice to be remembered as I was asked why I wasn't wearing my new blue Doc Martens!
These guys are passionate and very knowledgeable about their products. They don't rush you and will even make small adjustments to boots/shoes if something doesn't feel right. This sort of service is sadly lacking in shops nowadays .
We are back in London next month and will more than likely be visiting this shop again!
r.
I’ve wanted to visit this shop ( institution ) since about 1979 and was not disappointed by either the stock or the staff. I was very impressed with the knowledge of the stock shown by the very friendly manager. I will definitely return to make more purchases. Thanks very much!!

I visited the shop because I wanted to buy the real deal and not the cheap knock-off shoes sold on every other street corner and it was well worth the money.
I spotted James outside the underground station and he showed the way to a tiny shop I probably would have missed by myself. The staff were all very friendly and knew what they were talking about. They were able to recommend shoes that fit me and my needs great. The quality of the leather seems really good and though they're pretty heavy duty shoes they're still really comfortable. I can see myself wearing them both on my travels this autumn and to work back at home without my feet getting tired from standing and walking for hours.
All in all this was a good experience. Everyone was really friendly and despite it being quite busy they we're not in a hurry to get anyone out and helped everyone. If I'm ever in England and the London area again I might come back. :)
A. L.
Many years ago we bought a pair of boots at this amazing shop. The price seemed expensive at the time but it's worth paying a little bit extra for quality. After ELEVEN years the boots are worn out. Because of ”lock down” we couldn’t travel from Sweden to replace these much loved boots. No problem! The online service was above and beyond expectations. Thank you, Stuart! Thank you, Nick!
This place is a ”must visit” next time you are in London!
R. K.
The only place to buy Doc Martens. I bought my first pair here in 1993, and my niece her first pair 3 years ago which are still going strong. We dropped by to add to her collection and got the same high level of advice and care. A proper experience
H. B.
Never have I done this review before but I did for this shop because it was a great experience and really had wonderful shoes and staff. This was because this young Protestant man from Scotland called James when he speak to us for so long and talk to us about all his experience in Jerusalem and sharing his pictures with us. So personal and friendly and my daughter loved his accent. These that we buy are fantastic and I would not want to shop for these boots again in any place to go in London except for the British Boot Company. Thank you.
A. T.
If a guy on the street in Camden tells you to take his word for it and that you should see his shop before going to the Chinese one in the market he should definitely be taken at his word!
I ended up with lilac Mary Jane shoes which are the cutest shoes I've ever had and a pair of burgundy Docs which are the softest things I've ever had on my feet!
This is the six month anniversary of said boots and shoes and I remember being told that if I bought from the Doc shop I wouldn't have my boots at the end of the year.
Now I'm looking at their reviews and I'm thinking O.M.GGG!!!
So glad I didn't buy there.
You guys are the best!
D. M.
I went in looking for two pairs of quality shoelaces and left with a pair of boots and shoes and a big smile on my face (a as well as the laces)
I bought a pair of Loakes Oxfords from this shop in 1982 and I needed to replace them so I got the Brogues boots this time. I tried them on and they fit like gloves.
On the shelf below the boots a pair of shoes were staring at me...
I got chatting to Nick in the shop about quality shoes, watches and music (what else is important!) Of all the shoes and boots in the shop he pointed to the shoes that had been staring at me. I’m sitting here wearing my new navy suede and black leather George Cox Polecat shoes. Perfect, stylish and comfortable shoes.
Beautiful perfect footwear. And amazing service! I even got a suggestion for where to get my watch taken care of.
T. N.
British Boot Company. A totally amazing shop.Decided it waa time to have some super shoes. There is no better place to go. Quality beyond and supporting the community. Nick is an encyclopaedia of all things Shoes & Boots.
Recommended Post Man shoes. Have to say l am blown away they feel amazing and look fabulous.
Thank you so much for the great atmosphere and chat. Thats how a shop experience should be. First class all the way
👍👍

The best place for your original Doc shoes and boots. Genuine leather and a real nice service any time you go inside. I really like it here and I really don't like the marketed brand name shops. The guys inside this shop make your experience even more special. Always so kind and met with a smile from the owner and his co-workers. I remember one had a Scottish accent but I'm so bad with names. I think Colin may have been the guy who served us last time but even if it isn't you all know who you are and you absolutely rock!
E. G.
The best service ever! Thank You!😊👍I absolutely love my boots- ever so comfortable🥾🥾All the best!!!
C. A.
I wasn't planning on buying Doc Martens on this trip but I couldn't resist when I came across this vintage store.
Lured in by an accent to die for and both of the guys were super sweet!
It was the best set up of Doc Martens that I saw in any place around the city. I was tempted by the shop in the market, but this place swayed it for me.
I can't believe my original review received this much attention! Thanks to James for getting in touch and pointing this out to me. You are so sweet!
My boots are still amazing and I wear them almost every day! You guys are awesome and I will return if I'm ever back in London.
J. M.
Collin was fantastic and encyclopedic in his knowledge of the iconic boot brands. Also stunning in knowing what is for you. One of a kind / rare color print variations for the DM fan.
Wonderful experience.
F. D.
Such a wonderful shop! I urge you to buy your docs here rather than chain shoe shops- you won’t regret it. Much better quality, amazing and knowledgeable service with full clarity of the sourcing of the boots. My shoes fit better than any other pair of docs I’ve bought, wonderful soft ‘glove’ leather fit. Recommend if you’re in Camden and looking for a new pair of shoes.
D. S.
I've bought several pairs of boots here over the years - but always in person. Just tried online because of COVID restrictions and got the same great customer service - helpful and knowledgeable - and fantastic range to choose from. Boots arrived next day after ordering. Others have said it - but this place *IS* an institution!
L. G.
The difference between this store and the regular Doc shops is quite literally night and day. I was greeted with a huge smile from a really lovely guy and he took the time to show me the display. I loved his thick Scottish accent and the boots he showed me were indescribably beautiful and unique. I told the boss who was a guy called Nick that I had some really terrible experiences with Docs and it had kinda put me off getting more, but now that I'm reading your reviews I seriously wish I would have bought some here. You guys have amazing reviews and I know why.
A. J.
While on vacation in London we happened upon this amazing window full of beautiful British boots while wandering in Camden Town only to find out it was the original Doc Marten shop. What a lucky find. The shop is cozy and filled with beautiful locally made quality footwear using the original designs with great variety of leather colors and patterns. If you ever had a pair of the original boots and loved them, then you need to come here or actually even if you never did. Nick, James and Colin were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and funny which made dropping a cool $640 on a couple pairs a little less painful. I love supporting local family run small businesses that still make quality hand crafted items and I know what I’m paying for. I also can’t think of a better souvenir to remember my trip than a beautiful pair of Docs. I’ll wear these boots with pride and a little attitude when I get home. Nick, Thanks so much for your hospitality, we really enjoyed our visit to your store and will come again if we make it back to London someday.
m. G.
This is where you should buy your boots (especially Doc Martens).
These are good quality shoes.
The sellers know their stuff, they will take the time to help you out and they also have exclusives.
If you don't want shoes that will break in weeks, take the time to go to that shop
T. W.
Came in yesterday for a pair of boots. My fourth visit since I was 18 back in 2007, and except for the first pair which I outgrew I still have the shoes/boots from each trip. The only place you should be shopping for docs, and while you’re at it, buy solovairs instead (docs made in china now, the boys will give you the full story)
Great service, great product, support your local shops!
M. B.
I was with a friend from Tunisia (we are both native Belgian) and on vacation last summer and we were introduced to the British Boot Company by a Scottish guy on the street and it turned out to be the oldest and most original Docs shop in the country.
After my friend bought from the store, we returned around an hour later, but were in such a rush that I didn't take the time to appreciate it.
Being that I visited London for two days on Sunday to Tuesday last week, I made a point to go out of my way and see Camden for the purpose of visiting the shop and seeing it on my own.
I live in Sweden, and the need for a good comfortable solid pair of reliable boots is an absolute necessity at this time of year. I checked around the area for a while, but had forgotten the name and eventually I asked a local at the Underground station who told me the Scottish guy worked at the store nearby.
I checked it out, but the Scotsman in question wasn't to be found. Instead I met a man named Colin, he told me about the history of the store and I entertained him with a story of visiting the Docs shop earlier in the day and how terrible it was. He made a few recommendations, but I had my eye on one particular pair and couldn't be swayed from that point.
True made in England branding with sublime leather, stitching and an impenetrable sole unit. Almost a week has passed now since I was in the store and I wanted to write back to you guys and tell you that I am so happy that I eventually found you.
My mate, Maouab, was absolutely right about this place. It is the best store for authentic quality boots in London and I will be spreading the word far and wide.
Thanks to Colin and I will see you again some other time!
J. P.
My partner knew they wanted a new pair of boots from their first trip to London. The last pair had been worn to death and needed a new pair to wear down. We were getting a bit despondent in the other shoe stores, thinking we were going to have to buy something that really could be purchased anywhere and wouldn’t have much meaning. Until a little leather bag stall owner in the markets told us their love story of British Boots and sent us here immediately. We found Colin, history, honesty, and the next pairs of boots to last for years to come.
C. M.
Highly recommend the shoes myself and my husband brought George coxs creepers, thay are great shoes.
The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the shoes thay sell. When this lockdown is over we will differently go and visit this shop and thank the staff in person. 🤩
G. M.
What a shop! Now, this is going back to May for me and in the five months since I said I would do a review for the guys I've totally spaced out, so here goes...
I can't thank the big man enough for pulling me in here. I remember he was Scottish because of his accent but I've honestly forgotten his name. I bought boots from the Doc Martens shop in Camden Market and had no idea was I'd just thrown £145 away on. The big dude came out, talked me in to the shop and showed me around. I was taken away by what I saw and immediately walked back to the market with the Scotsman and got a refund for my shiny Thailand boots.
Came back, bought British and nearly half a year on they still look brand new!
Brilliant shop. Thanks so much and I'll be sure to re-visit when I return from the ME to visit my folks.
D. N.
Absolutely brilliant shop, passionate about what they sell and everything in there is quality. After one of the soles on my dr.martens literally fell off I started buying Solovair boots and just bought a new pair from this place. Spent half an hour in here chatting as well, there is literally nothing these guys don`t know about footwear.

For my Doc Martens and the like I’ve been going for years to the British Boot Company in Camden Town. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I was there again last week and was impressed, as ever, by the great service. The guys working there are friendly, helpful and, unusual these days, highly experienced – they know exactly what they’re talking about. And at a time when so many independent specialist retailers are fast disappearing, the British Boot Company is a place to be treasured – a real gem.
M. W.
Buying shoes is a matter of trust - especially at Camden, where fake clothes of all major brands are nearly everywhere!
Buying in this lovely shop is a great experience! You can be absolutely sure, to get only originals and best advice.
Thanks a lot for your friendly and competent customer service!

I absolutely love, love, love this gorgeous, fabulously British shoe shop! I’ve been coming here for decades, and they are the home of my first Doc Martens!!! This shop is a family owned and carry only the highest quality, and finest quality of authentic, British shoes! The business has been catering to customers like me over generations from the same lineage of amazing owners, Fabulously British, Nick, and Jim, the charismatic Scotsman! Nick explained that he’s been there for 34 years, so I think that I must have first met him when he was a teenager!! Nick is super knowledgeable and really knows great quality shoes. He introduced me to high leather quality, Loake many, many moons ago, and they definitely are a handsome, durable and glamorous shoe! I just bought the most gorgeous pair of Chelsea Boots for a great value, at £210, which would sell on the high street to closer to £600, according to Nick! I don’t doubt it, as Loake’s are made in the same factory as Church’s. It’s a rather small shop, so be prepared for a tight fit (pun intended)! Come here to see some of the coolest Dr. Martens on the planet and give alms to Nick and Jim, the amazing, smart and talented shoe curators! They also provide VAT receipts so you can collect like 10-15% back at the airport if you are traveling from the US or abroad!
N. W.
I’ve been a regular customer of this shop for quite a while now. Today I bought a beautiful pair of 10 hole brown Grinders, and I’m delighted with them, as I have been by everything I’ve bought from this wonderful shop. Unbeatable for range, service and sheer charm!
S. I.
Absolutely the best Place for boots in London, still come here after 27 years my granddad came as well as my dad, myself and my kids. I am currently wearing a pair of Grinders which are 5 years old and still going strong, the quality of the English made boots they specialise in is superior to the Asian made Dr Martens that are sold everywhere else. If you want quality that lasts , the British Boot Company will not let you down. Thank you Nick, be back soon...
Å. T.
This is the store for the best boots in the world. My friends and I looked online for this place and found these reviews to say that this is the best shop. This is not wrong because after one hour me and both my friends were very happy and all have classic boots brought to us by the only shop that can provide the real English stuff made in the UK. We laughed now at so many people saying this man with his accent is so cool because we know James is a real nice guy and Colin helped us also so much as well as the man in charge which is Nick. All of them are real cool guys and we are very happy with the service and the shoes we got.
D. S.
Best shop I have been in for cheers , Nick and Colins knowledge about Dr.Martens was very helpful , and although they showed me a great pair of cherry red 10 hole REAL Dr Martens , I decided on a pair of Solovair Oxblood 11 hole boots really happy with them so much so , that I bought a black pair to , the shop reminded me of Ye Olde Boot Shop in Broad Green Croydon where I and all my mates used to go , and Nick new the shop and owner to , will be returning
D. S.
I first came here in 1979 when I was 25 and since then the store hasn't changed much. I bought my first pair of Docs here at that time and my next pair during a visit to Amsterdam in 1986. There is no comparison!
My Docs from here, both in 1979 and from just last week are absolutely unsurpassed for quality! The Docs I have bought in Amsterdam, New York City and Buffalo were all OK, but nothing by comparison in terms of the quality here.
I was encouraged to leave a review if I felt the store was worthy and let me tell you it is! I was welcomed in the door a lovely young man with the most gorgeous accent and taught about the history of the store by its owner who told me his grandfather most likely had served me back in the day and is unfortunately now passed. Another young fellow called Colin fit my boots and assured me of their quality giving me first class treatment all the way. The owner was well versed in his pitch, although I don't feel like I needed that much convincing!
The store is small and quaint but filled with tradition and a magnificent history that the proprieter is only too pleased to indulge you in!
Eye candy in the doorway, competent salesmen and a glorious history with the best quality boots in the world that I've personally witnessed!
What more can us Doc fans ask for? Five stars, gentlemen and I'll see you in the 2020's no doubt!
l. S.
We bought our first pair of docs in Camden in a ‘real’ doc Martens store. Then we decided to go to The British Boot Company and Nick (one the owners) asked nicely if he could see our bag from the other doc shop. He then told us they were Chinese quality and gave us lots of information about the real Dr.Martens. We decided to return the fake ones (which went very easily) and bought (both me and my boyfriend) some beautiful pair of Dr. Martens. They fitted like a glove! If you want to wear real docs please go to The British Bood Company! It’s amazing! I will never buy Dr.Martens anywhere else!
C. Y.
Great store, been here a few times and will be back for my next purchase! (Got my eye on the soft leather black ladies pair)
Partner bought the classic style cherry red DMs on Saturday (which he's currently lovingly dubbing)
Friendly, informative service as usual. Will be back next time in London.
S. O.
best shop ever, bought a pair of Dr Marten cherry red Chelsea boots on Sunday , wore them for a 7 hour shift in my pub the same day. They were so comfy & looked good. Have had issues with my last pair from the Dr Marten shop, they cracked & split after 6 months but these boots from the Boot Company feel different and the quality is so much better, worth every penny, thanks for restoring my faith in D Ms Colin xx
R. T.
I walked in after seeing the tardis in their front window (not expecting to buy anything at all) and walked out in my first pair of docs! Nick was very friendly and easygoing- he told me some great stories about the history of their shop, along with explaining the unique ranges they carry. He helped me find the perfect size and taught me how to lace my boots! I love supporting local businesses with staff who really care about their product and give excellent service. So happy with my purchase- been wearing them everyday since xD thanks again Nick!
J. F.
Great shop! Andy was super helpful and friendly. I bought a pair of Solovair Derby boots. I visited the shop 10 yrs ago, and I had a great experience at that time as well. Nick directed me to a pair of 1460s still made in England. I’ve enjoyed those boots for a decade! Hope it isn’t another 10 years until my next visit.
E. J.
Visited today and came away with a new pair of solovairs - great service, and incredible selection of boots, would throughly recommend!
M. M.
I visited this family-run business the other week and it was absolutely brilliant! The owner had scholarly knowledge of boots and was exceptionally courteous. I bought my first pair of Solovairs and am very satisfied with them. The owner helped me find the perfect fit and gave me advice on how to best take care of the boots. if you are looking for high-quality boots complemented with affable staff, the British boot Company has no equal.
R. S.
Not officially a Doc Martens store and all the better for it!
This in independent and much better.
I come from Denmark and my shoes I have been here to buy two pairs.
I was so impressed with the shoes but also these men speak so many languages to be the best people for their customers.
Nick the guy who is the owner speaks like the perfect French to some people in the store and even one man speaks German but I think he is from Scotland.
I think this is unbelievable and the customers before us were so happy.
I bought black Solovair boots and a pair of Doc Martens in yellow for my wife.
Awesome store.
Totally authentic.
I'm amazed.
A. R.
I spent hours pouring through the Stables Market with my plan being to buy authentic Doc Martens at the end from the official store. I was devastated when I saw the nasty garbage they had in stock and the type of shoes you know would fall apart after you had worn them 8 or 10 times!
I was heading home when I saw a sign guy for Doc Martens outside the station and he invited me in to the British Boot Company where I was introduced to Andy who is an awesome rocker with hair spiked up about 10 inches!
They sat me down, spoke to me in the most gorgeous Edinburgh accent and made me feel right at home. I was fitted and tried on two pairs before deciding to buy some footwear that was MADE IN ENGLAND, FOLKS!
Not China, not by kids in a sweatshop. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
Andy was cool the whole time and even cracked some jokes with me and I got a big hug leaving the store by my new favourite Scotsman.
Love, love, LOVE the store and I implore anyone reading this to LOOK AROUND before buying. Doc Martens stores in Camden are not all they seem!
They may come from Camden, but there is only one store (to my knowledge) that has real British quality brand boots.
<3
J. H.
I got a great big hug as I was walking through the door by a lovely gentleman who had an even lovelier Scottish accent, I sat down with the owner and he detailed all of his family history and what the company meant to him. I was sold as soon as he started brining out specialized custom-made models that were only available in this store anywhere in the world.
I love my boots. Classic, British made and built for life. Thank you and I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.
J. I.
My favourite store in Camden to visit when I go to the city and all because of this glorious history and the unique models available at the store. My four visits to the store have all resulted in purchases and I can't get enough of the stuff now. I know Nick the owner has been in charge now for over 30 years and I think that is amazing. I've been in the store with Colin too almost a month ago and last time I also met Jim on the door. Great store and top quality for both men and women. I highly recommend it to anyone reading this.
R. M.
TL;DR: visit the shop. It is worth it.
I was looking for a good boot and tried a bunch of chain stores in London, including Dr. Martens. The quality of the boots at the chain DM store were not adequate, and the people working were not that helpful. I am happy I decided to pay a visit to the British Boot Company.
Nick and the other fellow working there were EXTREMELY helpful. It is very apparent they take their work seriously, and that they are passionate about shoemaking. While helping me find the pair that worked best for me, Nick also provided an extensive history of boot making in the UK. Buying boots from his shop (which has been a family business for a LONG time) is not just a transaction - it is an experience.
I walked away (pun intended) with a great pair of Solovairs (which I hadn't heard of until visiting the shop), which are made in Northamptonshire, which is the boot making capital of the UK. I actually got a pair that is EXCLUSIVE to their brick and mortar store. Can't find them anywhere else, even on their own website!
So, all this is to say you should pay the physical store a visit. It's particularly important to support local shops like the British Boot Company in the midst of the digitalization of the economy. We need to ensure that stores run by great people like Nick stick around.

I've known Nick as being the boss of this legendary store for almost 20 years now and since my first pair of boots in late '99 I've never gone anywhere else for my footwear. Great place for shoes, amazing history and I've never received anything less than a warm, friendly and personal welcome walking through the front door. Whether I'm buying or not, they are complete gents and I know they treat every new customer that way too.

My friends and I were dying to meet this guy that my other friend had told us about who came up to her in the street and took her to an old shop that sold vintage British boots.
We were all curious and wanted to go check them out and it definitely didn't disappoint. The shop was so old but so cool and had so many different boots I couldn't believe it.
The guy from Scotland did not disappoint either and his accent was so gorgeous. Great boots and I will pay you a visit again when we come back in to town.

I was in the store on Saturday and my friend and I both got a beautiful new pair of boots. They weren't even on our shopping list, but we were swayed by the history of the place, the range that the store had to offer and (my friend in particular) was convinced by the man with the beautiful Scottish accent and how passionate he was about the place he worked. It was actually quite inspiring to see how much it meant to him.

The British Boot Company stock a really good range of English made footwear. I have owned many pairs of Dr. Martens over the years, however I stopped buying them when production moved to the Far East. I was fortunate to purchase a now hard to find pair of Dr. Marten’s 1490’s from the Made in England range from this Company. The staff are very knowledgeable and the customer service they provide is excellent.
I have also purchased Solovair boots from their website, ordering was hassle free and they arrived quickly. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking to buy traditional British made boots and shoes.

This is my second review for the BBC as I feel they deserve it. Got my seventh pair of magnificent shoes/ boots here on Thursday. As always the owner, Nick, is absolutely outstanding in both his passion in what he does and his unrivalled knowledge of the brands they sell. A truly unique shop in the heart of Camden town.
The range of both Solovair boots and shoes that they sell is unmatched by any other retailer in the UK ( and I've looked!) , they also are the only shop in the world to sell the Grinders brand, but exclusively Made in England. Incredible when you actually think about it!
I've recommended both friends and family to the BBC and everyone who goes there has an amazing experience and walks away with at least one or more pairs of boots or shoes .My daughter has a pair of the double sole Limited edition Grinders that she adores and literally never takes off.My favourite pair is a beautiful waxy 8 hole Solovair boot in a beautiful rich burgundy colour.
If you're looking for brands such as Solovair, loake, Grinders or George Cox this wonderful independent family run business will both impress and amaze you in equal measure.
I honestly can't wait to come back and get my next pair. Keep up the good work, Camden town wouldn't be the same without you.

For my wife it was the Retro Boutique, but for me it was the British Boot Company. I dragged her to Camden on the one day where she allowed me to chose what I wanted to do and I came here to buy an original pair of vintage DM boots in the style and fashion they were originally designed.
We were treated like gold the entire time we spent in the store and spoken to like we were the most important people in the world by James and Nick. James with his accent which my wife was very pleased about and Nick with the most informed and passionate pitch on his family history and integrity of the brand that I've ever heard.
Slam dunk, guys. You have a new customer for life in me. I expected it to be great, but it was even better than I had hoped.

I have been wearing boots sold here under the NPS, Solovair and as of today Grinders brands for many years ( probably 6 pairs) so I'm definitely a loyal customer. To me, the boots are synonymous with quality; at more than £200 a pair one might be put off, but I continue to fork over because it is an investment in yourself, since the boots last for years and also an investment in working people since the boots are made by owner-operators and employee-owned businesses, not like some other brands with similar style..as for specifics, the soles last the lifetime of the boot and indeed for me have never needed work done to fix them; the leather is for me the part that limits the lifetime of the boot as eventually it becomes cracked and split, but that is a normal part of wear and tear and these boots do very well; remarkably I have never had the inside sole come apart or need fixing in any of the pairs I've had. So in summary, if the style is what you're looking for this is the place to get it; the quality is unsurpassed and you're not just supporting local jobs, your supporting the concept of workers owning the production process.
Finally, the owner of the shop knows his stuff - in this place they aren't merely sellers of boots, they're involved with the whole process from factory to foot and know it inside out. This isn't just another shoe shop it's one of those rare unique merchants that can legitimately claim to be a world leader in what they do. No question this tiny shoe shop (with an outsized selection! Very densely packed) is one of the greatest in the world.

James shop is very famous and visited by so many tourists from so many countries. In the shop I seen families from New Zealand, China, Belgium, Switzerland, France, England and we are from Singapore. It's such a small shop but it has the best boots anywhere we have seen and James is so sweet to show us this shop and take all of us back to the Doc Martens store to return our shoes. We bought the terrible shoes from China that had a bad marking on them even just in the box and James take his time all to show us back to the market and make sure we had the best boots in the world for going back home. We all loved the shop and wish we could buy more but thank you to the people who helped and James gave us all a kiss and a hug to say goodbye. So personal and very friendly to all of us and we felt so special the whole time because of the way he spoke to us. Thank you James.

Thank you so much! I have my first ever pair of Solovair thanks to the most wonderful man in the world. Adrian loves you guys and bought two pairs from you in the last year. He was shown this place looking for his Xmas shopping by a guy on the street and ended up coming back and buying two more pairs in February for his own birthday. Because I love his boots so much, he bought me a pair for my birthday on December 7. I haven't been, but my boyfriend said I should leave a review after he gave you one last time. I will have to visit you guys next time I'm in London so that I know what all the fuss is about!

Best shoe shop at Camden for original British leather shoes and boots. Those people in that shop know very well their trade and can answer every question you have about. Friendly and helpful service. For the prices check their website first so you know before about the prices in what you are interested for. Keep in mind that that we are talking about original leather products made in Britain and not those Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam-etc that you will find in other shops in the Camden Market.
C.
The place looks and smells exactly like what you expect from the store selling the original real deal Dr Martens and Solivars.
The knowledge, quality, and banter are without compare. I used to own a pair of original boots inherited from my folks a while back and since then every pair I’ve had have sucked. Turns out it’s because the franchise stores you see everywhere have outsourced to various countries with scrupulous labour practices and sub-par quality. The ones (two cracking pairs) I bought here were exactly like the first pair I owned. The soles were chunky, the leather was well treated, and even better put together.
All I can say is thanks to Jim and Nick for helping me out here - especially after the fuss that the store in the market kick up (claiming I had raised my voice and swore at them)... These are two of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, and it’s always great to hear an accent from the home country.
Already told everyone I know that love Dr Martens to head here for their next pair. I recommend everyone else does too.
Cheers guys - beers are on me next time.

I was on the lookout for Docs and having been referred to the Doc shop in Camden Market, I ended up leaving bitterly disappointed by the quality of the boots they had on display. I ended up leaving empty handed and then I bumped in to a lovely man on the street who had a gorgeous accent and he invited me to join him in the first ever Doc shop in the world. I am so glad I didn't buy anything in the market because now I have a brand new pair of original Docs from the real shop. Met the owner, met a guy who helped me lace up my boots and then left with the biggest smile on my face!

Today was the fourth time I have visited the best boot/shoe retailer in the world, and as always the service & dedication to the customer's satisfaction was second to none. I purchased a lovely pair of Grinders (Cedrics) and was, as always, incredibly impressed with the tremendous quality of the product. If you're looking for a genuinely superior pair of shoes or boots then get yourself along to the British Boot Company! Beware of imitations!

I come for the experience of authentic Creeper shoes and find this shop in book for tourist guide in Camden. I tell the shop man for just 1 minute and he said my perfect shoe pair. I love it here and when my friend in Shikoku find my shoe she wants so jealous and because it speaks from James in Scotland and Nick of the management this team and I say this was all I need to go back home with this gift of the best shoes of London.
D. M.
Having seen Vic Reeves on tv sporting a natty leather and leopard pair, I went on a quest to find out who sells such shoes. Google led me to George Cox at this shop. Forward a few weeks to my next trip to London, I popped in and found Nick, a proper salt-of-the-earth London bloke who loves his wares and offers a level of personal service straight out of Edwardian times or perhaps Mr Benn. I left with a pair of navy suede and black leather Cox's feeling very satisfied. Highly recommended.

Maybe some of the nicest guys I have ever met!
So nice to me and my friend when we walked in to the store.
So much history in this place - I love it!
The boots are amazing and I never saw so many colours.
I've had boots before but nothing like these ones!
Jim and his sexy accent got our attention, but the guy inside who had his grandpa starting the business way back in the 1800's was so sweet and it was really touching to hear how he had taken the company on and was still here after all these years.
He still looked so young for a guy who had been in charge for so many years.
As soon as we got back, Amber was so mad she didn't get any and can't find the ones she saw in the shop on the online store.
You guys were cute when you said you wanted us to leave a review, but you were so sweet and kind the whole time I am happy to do one for you.
I hope you guys haven't forgotten us and we will for sure pay a visit next spring when we come back to London and do a little bit more of Europe!
Next time we're going to go to Belfast, Edinburgh, the Scottish Highlands and Newcastle as well as London.
Our trip was amazing! Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Denmark were all so cool.
The only place we didn't like was in France when we spent the day in Paris. It was so stinky!
Guys we miss you and hope to see both of you again in April or May 2020.
Bye!
H. M. W.
FABULOUS! Nick and Colin were both charming and friendly. Amazingly knowledgeable and full of good advice. Came in for a standard pair of Solovair, and left with a pair of one-off sample boots! They advised on sizing and care, provided some insoles and sprayed my suede boots with protective spray right there and then. Worth the visit whether you’re looking for boots or simply some old fashioned, top notch customer service!

We have this news for your store and both British Boot Company and Doc Martens of Camden Stables Market.
Only this last month we shopped at the Doc Martens shop in Camden to think for us it was the first ever shop and now made this big mistake.
We buy boots from the shop and come back to the station because we are going home to the next day on a flight to Vienna. At the station we are talking to a young man from Glasgow and he says that we should look at his shop and it is the original Doc Martens shop from 1950's.
When we see these shoes, we are so surprised because the quality of British shoes next to the shoes we bought was so different, but my husband and I both said that they are Doc Martens even if they are made in England or in China, so it does not matter.
The man from the owner of this shop says that the Vietnam and Chinese quality is very bad and we should take them back.
Ignoring of this, we are going to have them come and go home to Austria with the Vietnamese Doc Martens.
He told us they were bad quality and we should only buy British boots, not the Asian type. We went back home to Austria with the Asian boots.
Now after wearing the boots for just six weeks (since September 20) we've already put them in the trash.
This was 179 British pounds and he has worn them maybe 10 times. The leather has torn at the bottom of the foot and the sole of the boot has become separated.
I'm sorry for this Scottish man who told us this and we told him that this would not happen.
He was correct and we did not buy this from Doc Martens.

The owner is really kind and gives you an amazing experience. This shop is quite famous and sometimes some celebrities come over here for the awsome boots. Thank you verh much.

Bought some gorgeous pale blue 6 hole boots with flowers on today. A bit of an impulse buy, but the service was excellent (and the guy who helped me has an awesome Mohawk). The boots feel so much more sturdy and authentic than other ones I've bought in the past, so I'll be returning once these wear out! Thanks so much :)
Edit: have today received my second pair of the same boots, for when my current ones wear out. Had a great chat with Nick on the phone on Sunday - a very fast turnaround and was very happy with the professional and friendly service!See you guys soon! :)

We need more shops like these - the sort of place you want to keep a secret because it's just so good. Brilliant, genuine, quality shoes and friendly people who know their stuff. Still wearing the Solovairs I bought eight years ago; another pair of Loakes bought last weekend. Quality.

I came to see you guys in 2018 at the end of the summer and I remember your store was so unique, selling vintage boots and they were some of the styles that I have never seen in my life. The boss told me his family had owned the store for so many generations and was the first in the world to sell these boots. So just two days ago I come to Camden with my family again all the way from Taiwan but I don't remember your location and the name was too difficult for me to find. I go to the Doc Martens shop and they say you have closed down and they absorbed your company to sell the classic English boots that you once had. This is such {boolsheet} I know is not true and they lie to me about the boots. This makes me feel so bad and now I find you again on Facebook but I'm home now. So many good memories and I have your boots on my feet from two years ago. George Cox style old school and my girlfriend has purple vintage Doc Martens. We sad that we can't find you, the boss man you are so cool and you should know these liars are talking so bad stuff about you and saying you have closed business. My wife remembers the man with this accent from Scotland I think and your business partner also. Such a shame but we will come back again on another visit to the UK.

Tom and nick what a pair of charming chaps. Their knowledge of shoes is impeccable and their cheery disposition is infectious. I'm the proud new owner of a pair of original British made, steel toe capped dm's that'll see me through the years of sunshine and rain. If your going to buy a pair of shoes that last, head on down.

Who plans on coming on vacation for a long weekend and leaves with boots the same weight as the rest of your luggage that you came with?
Big thanks goes to James for that!
I have to say I do love this place. Greeted warmly as I came through the door with a huge smile from the owner and big hug from the Scottish man who wasn't shy to familiarize himself instantly. I felt right at home here.
Awesome to know that shops like this are still going, even if they are a dying breed.
I won't forget the shop, the shoes or the smiles any time soon!

customer since 1987 when it was Holts. the 3 generation of Owners always been perfect and this is one of the place where peanuts were always welcome in a perfect business way. Never been disapointed with the quality of the boots and the prices.

Had the best time here, it’s like Willy Wonka’s factory for boots! Just don’t eat the leather. Nick is so engaging and a fountain of knowledge - he’ll get to know you, pick out something you might like and lace your boots up for you. If you ask, he’ll also explain why the boots made in Britain by proper old manufacturers are fair superior in quality to the venture capitalist owned shod that’s carted over here from an ethically questionable Asian source. Dr Martens (RIP quality) I’m looking at you. I bought the most gorgeous Solovair boots and I will soon be back to the *original* and best Camden British boot shop.
Y. A.
I have been coming to this independent boot shop for about ten years now as I love their authentic Solovair range. This shop proves that quality wins over quantity every time! - Any boots that you purchase from here are practical as well as stylish. Original Doctor Martins are an iconic staple that have been a part of our sub-culture for generations in Britain. I am very happy with the friendly customer service that I received from the staff, they had a good understanding of what suited me which was useful too. They know their stock well and treat their customers with respect which means a lot in this day and age. The passion that the staff have in this shop is rare and inspiring, I can honestly say that this business is unique and an absolute jem that needs to be treasured.

I have been purchasing boots from the British Boot company for over 12 years. The service I have received has been excellent. If you are looking to buy British made boots this is the
Mecca for all boots. The knowledge of the staff is unmatched anywhere. Everytime I have been there i have seen people from all over the world who trust and will only buy boots from this shop. They have a selection of boots and other footwear unmatched by any shops I have been to.

I had a great first experience here yesterday. I had done quite a lot of research online prior to visiting the shop, but my primary reason for making the trip was to learn a bit more about Solovair and seek overall guidance on the best pair of boots to go for. Nick did an absolutely brilliant job. He’s clearly extremely passionate as well as knowledgable about the products he stocks and this came through in spades.
Nick is an excellent salesperson in the sense that he took the time to qualify my needs; finding out exactly what I was looking for before recommending a pair. Even then, he wasn’t pushy; he actually started off by recommending a pair significantly cheaper than the ones I had my eye on from looking over their website. He educated me whilst coming across as sincere the whole time.
It was this that gave me the confidence to believe him when I asked which pair were ‘the best’ and pull the trigger on a slightly more expensive pair than I originally intended. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with my decision so far!
Nick and Tommy (who very kindly helped me to lace the boots as I was trying them on) overall did a phenomenal job and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I will be back in the very near future!

Always been a fan of Doc Martens. Never knew we weren't buying the real ones until we found this amazing shop in Camden. Not only do you get the real handmade Doc Martens, you also get the best service from Nick, Andy and of course Jim, who is even willing to go back to the Doc Martens company with you to get your money back. Great experience!
J. B. D. C.
Amazing store full of history and very friendly people. Also happens to sell shoes of great quality, definitely recommend a visit!
H. M.
Great shop if you’re looking for proper boots. I was after some Solovairs after hearing that Doc Marten’s have gone way down hill. Nick the owner was super helpful and has decades of experience, as the original Solovair shop, there was an amazing range of great quality boots and shoes. Walked away with a gorgeous pair of boots, love ‘em! Thanks Nick, I’ll be back for more!
K. D.
Amazing place for shoe and boot lovers; you won't be disappointed!!
A tiny shop but packed to the rafters with beautiful UK made Solovair, DMs, Loake, George Cox and so on. Absolutely everything is stocked here (even boots that technically don't exist anymore), so if you are in London you have to pay this place a visit.
Service is excellent and owners know everything about their products and the stock they have.
Whenever I step in here I am transported back to a Camden Town that I used to visit 20+ years ago, complete with a unique character. Fabulous!
E. P.
I met Jim when he picked me out of the queue at a concert having noticed the DMs i was wearing, he handed me a leaflet and as I nothing better to do i went into the shop - best decision I could have made! Had a great conversation with the guys about how I'd just had to return a pair of 'hardlife' docs from a chain store after 6 months. Once i received my refund for those I travelled back to London to buy my replacement pair from this shop to ensure I didn't make the same mistake again. Jim and Nick were so friendly and helpful again and my new exclusive docs are awesome!
A. A.
This place is a real gem. The boots are topnotch and the service super friendly.
We dropped in like 15 minutes before they close and still we had all the time in the world to try different boots, chat with the owner and get all the help we needed.
Colin, the owner, told us that this store is a family business that has been around since the late 50s.
A charm you can feel when entering this small shop with a big variety of shoes to choose from in the front, and stacks of shoeboxes in the back. - It reminded me a bit of Ollivander's wand shop of Harry Potter.
And from a picture on the wall an elderly man, I assume the founder, is sitting in exactly this shop amist his shoes and smiles.
Thanks to Colin and Tom for this great experience. We will definitley be back!
S. W.
This is a great little store..me and my friends were not even planning to buy anything but because we were accosted by a smooth talking scotsman we ended up in a vintage store and my friend izzy bought the coolest pair of original docs that i'Ve ever seena nd thank you for also the guy who sold it to us. Really cool store guys and we'll come baxk when we're not such poor students lol.

This is an absolute gem of a shop and I truly hope Nick remains in business for a long time to come. We were visiting London and had just been in the Dr. Martens store up the street. I was looking for a pair of Chelsea boots and the Docs felt light and flimsy and overall cheap. Our teenage daughter said the place just felt wrong and flat out contrary to the spirit of punk and we agreed. I had read about The British Boot Company and so we headed there. Our experience was akin to that of the other glowing reviews here and elsewhere. I immediately found exactly what I was looking for in a pair of Solovairs. I tried two different sizes and seemed to fall in between. They showed me some other styles but I didn't like any of them as much. Meanwhile, our daughter was wearing a pair of Dr. Martens we'd bought at the Portland, Oregon flagship store a year earlier and which she'd worn virtually every day since. She wasn't looking for shoes even though we'd said we'd get her a pair in London. Nick explained that Dr. Martens were, with the exception of a few, no longer made in England as the company had been bought out by a Chinese conglomerate six years earlier and that they were made in mostly in China and Thailand; that they were no longer made entirely of leather and that's why they'd felt cheap to me. He brought out a pair of Solovair boots for her and she never took them off--she's been wearing them for a month nonstop. I believe it was Simon--the gentleman with the mohawk--showed her how to tie them "properly." In the meantime, Nick had worked an insert into the shoes I'd loved and when I tried them again they were perfect. By then my husband had decided he needed a pair, too. They threw in the inserts and shoe polish for free. Yes. We spent a fortune but the shoes will clearly last. As will the experience. Our day in Camden Town was our favorite day in London, in no small part thanks to the guys at The British Boot Company: their knowledge, service, and their stories about the store, the rock scene and their famous customers. We will be back!
M. S.
Visited London last week and first stop was British Boot Company. I have bought from here before and this time I was after a pair of George Cox Black Gibson’s. Met Nick , who brought the shoes to me and we spoke easily and freely about the shoes I was trying on and about shoes in general. The shoes are great, the experience of buying them was too, and so is the shop. Many thanks.

A truly gorgeous little store right outside Camden station. We wouldn't even have known about it, but we were looking for a place to go and eat before going to see the market and this buff Scottish hunk helped us out before introducing us to his store around the corner.
We met Nick (I'm so bad with names so I apologize if I'm wrong) who was the grandson of the original Doc Martens store that was the first place IN THE WORLD to sell them. London has a ton of history, but most of it is too obvious and ruined by commercialism; this place is real and authentic, a real cool vibe and it has the best footwear that I've seen anywhere in the city!
For such a tiny place on a Thursday afternoon the store was PACKED and it had people from like 8 different countries in there. Jim, forever the charmer, was flaunting his vexililogical knowledge and putting us all to shame; he is seriously sapio and I was so impressed by his language skills, geographical knowledge and passion for the store.
Nick sold us a gorgeous pair of vintage Doc boots which words cannot do justice for and my friend, Gina, has lived in them since she got them. We parted with about 300 pounds for just two pairs, but I swear we still got a bargain. They are some serious kicks!
Aside from leaving without the Scottish guy's number, we couldn't say anything bad about the store and Jim and Nick are welcome to come party with us anytime when we're back in the city in August. Just wait for it, guys...
Seriously F*** the Doc Martens store with their knock-off Pakistani bulls***!!! I wish I could sell this place more, but if you have to go to London and buy Docs, it's straight up crazy to go anywhere else.
Love you guys xx
j. d.
I came here in '93 when I was 17 and the place hasn't changed much.
Best footwear in London by far. No arguments.
Fella with the Scottish accent is a legend and a great addition to the store. The guy has banter for days and he had the customers eating out of his hands.
I was born in '76 and Nick has been running the place since not long after that. The guy is a legend in Camden.
I would never go anywhere else for my boots and judging by what I've seen recently in places like the Doc shops around London and other places in Camden, why would you?
R. C.
This review is a bit overdue but this place is really great! I stopped in for the first time a few weeks ago and I totally got schooled by Nick (Owner) about the history and current standing of the Doc Martens brand. Nicks great grandfather was the first person ever to sell the original "real" Doc Martens back in the day and it was in this same exact shop too. It's a strange but fascinating story. You won't find any new model Docs (from China) here these days but The British Boot Company still sell brand new (never used) old back stock "Made in England" Doc's cuz the quality and integrity of the brand was still intact back then. They also (mainly) carry other great brands that are still doing things right and waving the British flag high such as Solovair, Carl Cox, Grinders etc...Needless to say I've been solidly converted to Solovair moving forward based on quality, integrity, history and the fact they look damn good too! Thanks Nick...I'll be a long time customer of The British Boot Company from here on out!
A. J.
What a find. Having been in the Dr martens chain stores in the West end, I searched for a shop that actually sells made in England shoes/boots.Found this store, and was amazed at the choices and various vintage but brand new made in England Dr martens they had to offer me, alongside other brands like Solovair and George Cox. Very well mannered staff that we're also very knowledgeable. Keep selling these fantastic boots, I will definitely recommend taking a look to all that ask me.By the way my boots are amazing, thank you.
A. T.
The best shop for a boots lover!
I've bought three times here, two pairs of Grindes and a pair of Martens, and my experience has always been good. I'm very satisfied with the attention they offer, in special Stuart.
Without a doubt, I recommend this shop and I will buy again!
R. C.
I was new to buying Dr Martens, I bought a pair from the Dr Martens shop and my flatmate told me they're not what they were and they will fall apart in six months, then I read the article on The Guardian how DM sold the brand to a venture capitalist firm and they're out for profit, therefore the quality goes down significantly. Also DM changed their return policy and it's really bad, after a year you can't get your money back once they split which they will.
Anyway I could go on forever, and it is sad that a British brand as iconic as DM isn't what it was. But I found The British Boot Company on google after stumbling across an article about Solovair boots who were the manufacturers of DM's when they were a quality product. To cut a long story short this shop is excellent, and they sell quality products, the guys are lovely, and passionate about british made products and they know their stuff. Don't buy from Dr Martens, after six months you will want your money back, and you probably won't get it back.
Thanks guys, you saved me a lot of future hassle and being out of pocket.

Two months ago I buy the Bulldogs Grinder boots from the British Boot Company and man they are still awesome as the same day I buy them!
I mean to do this with a review many time sooner but I forget. Is it Jim with the accent from Scotland and Nick the man who have the business? I think also too a man with such big hair I didn't talk with him but all the men are so funny in this shop and I want to go back so bad and buy more.
My first review ever and only for my favorite boot shop in the world. Thank you for introducing me to this such cool place and all my friends will be for sure still jealous in all the time I have my boots and they see them.
Mit Liebe! Sara X

British Boot Company,
You have to be the best kept secret in footwear retail!
Seriously. How do we not know about you guys?
To anyone reading this, if you're going to Camden because it is the home of Doc Martens and heading anywhere else BUT HERE you are INSANE!!!
I visited the Doc store in Covent Garden and convinced myself that (just for sentimental reasons) I should wait and buy them in Camden Town.
For two reasons I am truly grateful for this hesitation.
One, I would have bought and started wearing my Charing Cross ones, which I then would have been unable to return.
Two, when I arrived at Camden Town, I saw a gorgeous guy with a big yellow sign advertising the British Boot Company.
He smiled and approached me, telling me that his store was the first IN THE WORLD to see Doc Martens and that, if I was interested, I should pay a "wee visit to have a look" - so adorable!
His Scottish wit and voice fit for a radio presenter lured me in and out of curiosity, I went to see it.
I questioned whether or not this was the REAL DOC MARTENS STORE, to which I was quickly corrected and informed that this was the original shop, opening its doors during Queen Victoria's reign and has been in operation for over 150 years!!!
WTF? OMG! RUFKM???
They had over 500 pairs of boots in the store compared to (maybe) 50 in Covent Garden and I was told to have a look, check out the Doc Martens shop in the market and then make my decision.
As soon as I walked in to the Doc Martens shop in Camden Market about an hour later I was completely appalled at my lack of research and quite disgusted that I had even considered shopping there.
This would have been the place I bought my Docs, but now that I had met Mr Scotland and seen his shop, I wouldn't even buy 1 out of 100 pairs in the future from an "official" Doc Martens shop.
No chance ever. Not one. Not even a little bit.
Forget it! This is the ONLY place to buy your boots.
I walked out with a pair of blue Solovair made in England label branded Doc Martens and they are the best thing in my closet.
My friends are seriously envious and I even got a picture in front of the store, which the gorgeous Scotsman took and to round off everything he gave me a big hug and a kiss on my cheek, telling me I was welcome to come back anytime.
I mean, really, does it get any better than that?
First class service, quality boots, an extraordinary history and an amazing story to go along with it all.
I will be back.
London may not have been on my checklist of places to re-visit in 2020, but it will be now and I have my eye on those red soft leather boots that I flirted with last week!
British Boot Company, thank you.
Love your store and I hope you guys are still around for my kids to buy shoes from.

I shopped here before about six years ago and only got rid of my boots because I moved house and needed to clear my things out to make more room for my new place. This time (to save a bit of money) I bought from the Docs place in Camden Market and they broke after I wore them five times! I'm seriously about to start crying every time I think about it. They won't speak to me in the store when I tell them what happened and all they do is tell me I need to contact customer services, but they don't respond. What a mess! Always buy your boots British. Lesson learned!

Been in shop today and bought a pair of Grinders 20 hole cherry red skinhead boots. They are awesome. The 2 guys in the shop couldn't be more helpful. The stock they have in the small shop is amazing. Boots to suit all tastes. Best shop in London. Thoroughly recommend anyone to pay a visit.

We met a wonderful young man on the street who introduced my sister and I who are both avid Doc lovers to the original store where they sold the first ever boots of the kind over 50 years ago!
The store is fabulous! Maybe the only store where the staff actually lace your boots up for you as you try them on. My sister and I pined over many of their limited edition collection and walked out with two brand new pairs of Solovair Doc's that were made in the UK and not overseas!
We plan on re-visiting in 2020 and my sister especially hopes that the hunky hugger on the door will still be there!

What a great experience to visit one of the few places to find authentic Doc Martens footwear! And, the staff offered customer service rarely seen today. I am extremely pleased with my purchase of Heritage boots...they look and feel fantastic. Highly recommend...from a very satisfied customer from Texas. 👍🏼

What a gem of a shop! I've been searching for over 20 years for a pair of Doc Martens like I used to have and today, with very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous help from Colin, I finally found them. My experience from start to finish was nothing short of excellent. If you're looking for the real deal, make things easy on yourself and start here.
r.
Great shop, big thanks to Jim (the Scottish employee that escorted us to the shop)for educating us on the controversy surrounding Dr.Martens shoe manufacturing. If you’re in the market for great quality boots, that are ACTUALLY made in England, come here, instead of the shop in Camden Market. The shop in Camden Market only sells products produced in Asia using Asian materials of inferior quality. The real deal is sold here.

I've just bought a pair of Solovair shoes from British Boot Company. My size wasn't available online so I contacted customer services. Stuart responded really quickly and advised that their Camden shop had what I was looking for. I phoned the shop, placed an order and two days later my shoes arrived. Good communication from British Boot and quick delivery. Would recommend. I've used them before and will do so again.

I had known about this shop for a few years and finally got the chance to visit it. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Great quality and great customer service by Nick & Colin who are very knowledgeable. Left the shop with a pair of beautiful, high quality 'Made in England' Dr.Martens boots. Will visit again next time!
O. K.
Every rare and iconic boot you could possibly want will be here. It was THE place to come and every skinhead and bootboy worth his name will know this place. Good for laces and accessories.
Very fast international delivery too.
The rarer the boot the higher the price so accept that and expect to pay cash as they never trust anyone (well they have never trusted me and I've been using
them for 30 years).

I bought boots for my girlfriend at the sham Doc Martens shop in the market, only to be corrected for my error by James on the street, taken to his store and shown the real product.
Unfortunately, when I went back to the market to return my goods, they called security and said I was being disruptive by questioning the origin of their product. As soon as I asked them why they sold me a Vietnamese boot instead of the English one I asked for, several customers behind me started to ask questions as well and called the staff out on their lies.
Security came, I was threatened with legal action and told they were calling the police to remove me. They refused to give me a refund and said that I was costing them business by questioning their items.
This morning I went back to another Doc Martens shop that I had seen in Covent Garden and they took the boots back with absolutely no questions asked.
I must point out as well that the boots I bought were severely damaged. They hadn't even been tried on, as they were for my girlfriend and not for me.
This has put the whole question of even buying Docs in to doubt. I will return to this store, absolutely no doubt about that, but I don't know if I should just be safe and buy my girlfriend something else.
Thanks to James and his boss for showing me the shop and helping me out, I didn't mean to cause any trouble (if I did) and your store is absolutely awesome!
J. K.
We love this place. Me and the rest of The Last Resort boys have been buying our boots (and shoes) here for years. Picked up a lovely pair of burgandy Brogues on my last visit. Nick, Colin and Andy really know their products and are always really helpful, and for what appears to be quite a small shop, they always have a surprisingly huge amount of stock.
D. K.
I was afforded the opportunity to visit this store, which I didn't even know existed, upon meeting a guy on the street who told me about the store he worked for. Being very easy on the eyes, I followed him in and he showed me this awesome 19th century boot shop with original Doc Martens and a huge variety of other boots made of pure British leather!
Nowhere else in Camden offered this kind of quality and I was drawn to the 30-hole knee high boots but alas I couldn't justify taking on more baggage space knowing that I was already way over packed!
I got to speaking with the owner of the store and he told me about his family who had owned the store previously and my new boots are absolutely to die for! The flirty Scotsman made my mind up for me as soon as he said I would definitely be the only one walking around Wisconsin wearing these.
I am sick and tired of new "rock" stores popping up here, there and everywhere offering up so called genuine leather and quality products when all they sell is mass produced garbage which isn't worth the paper that your receipt comes on. I feel strongly about this stuff and I love this guy for showing me a place that had an actual history entrenched within the area it is situated in. I mean it's even older than the train station in town!!!
Guys and gals, you have to visit this store! I'm serious. For a boot lover and anyone who is in to quality vintage independently owned stores, this is the place to be and it is genuinely rooted in Camden's history!
Love from Madison, you guys xxx
C.
Very happy with my beautiful Solovair! We came from Switzerland to buy a pair and we were not disappointed.
I needed after sales service and Nick took care of it very well. Great team!!! Thanks guys.
If you are looking for Solovair Made in England, I definitely recommend you to go in this nice shop... and take the time to choose your boots with love! (Obviously ^^)

Your only choice when buying quality dr martens.
The staff knows what they're talking about and that's obvious as soon as you enter the store. They have history and they're proud of it.
The staff, Nick, Collin and Tom (sorry if I got your names wrong) are very welcoming, and they make sure you leave with what you wanted, with experienced recommendations and by helping with sizing and fitting.
They're very knowledgeable about every material and the construction of the boots, and that leaves you assured that you're in the right place.
Also dr martens in all the colors and designs you could every imagine so you'll definitely find something for you.
Basically, costumer service off the charts, and the best leather in London, unlike the "made in Thailand" that you find in other stores (even in the dr marten store) that will only get you 1 year use before needing another pair.
If you care about quality, getting your money's worth, and supporting a business that cares about good values, at least give this shop a try.
B. B.
While in London on study, my friends and I discovered this place on accident, and then I went back two more times after that. Nick and Jim were wonderful, and treated us like old friends. If you're going to buy Doc Martens anywhere, make it here. They will do everything in their power to find a boot that fits your foot and your style, and even walk you to the ATM so you can purchase them.
H. G.
I can't recommend these guys more! Top notch group of guys running the store that are really looking to give you a memorable experience (especially since the quality of their shoes marks a long-term investment if you treat them well).
If you're looking for boots, especially good ol' Docs, don't bother with the other stores around- these gents are the pros.

I've never written a review before but I felt this place was deserving of one. I came in to this tiny little Victorian era shop looking rather dishevelled in a slip from the previous evening and before I could even sit down a rather charming Scotsman (James, I think) had already put me at ease by saying he was thankful not to have worn his today (!) I have to be honest about two things, I didn't buy here on this particular visit, but I certainly will do upon a future visit as I was regretting my decision almost immediately after leaving. The trouble with boots of this premium quality is that they also come at a premium price, but just like hotel rooms, watches, food and designer clothes, you get what you pay for! Good boots are good boots and don't do what I did by allowing yourself to walk out empty handed; you will regret it. Also, it has to be said that until I came across this shop I was only ever familiar with the Asian brand of Doc Martens (and again, if I'm being honest, not even realising that they were Asian), but now that I know there is a place where I can buy a truly top notch British range of fashionable Doc Martens I know I won't be shopping anywhere else. The man who owned the shop was even so kind to tell me about the history of the shop which dated back to the 1850's and how his grandfather ran the business for many years before passing away and leaving behind this wonderfully fascinating legacy in Camden. Perhaps a little bit more promotion to let people know that this is the real, genuine, British Doc shop would be helpful, but I'm sure the business is doing just fine either way. I noticed an advertising board at the station at the exit and I thought perhaps it would be the ideal place to put a sign up pointing out to the unknowing tourists who may be tempted to go to the market without even realising what they're buying. I'm babbling! Thank you, James and to the owner who spent so much time on me and I didn't even buy anything. Sweetest guys and I will be seeing you once I have some pennies to spare ~ Sophie xx

My name is Fiara and this writing for my husband and we come to Camden and buy Doc Martens boots from the shop but we are said to not know buying from Asia. Well I say! This is not for me with knowing from Asia and we speak with man from Scotia to see original shop boss in Camden with 160 years!!! Dumnezeule! So good choice. This boots we have in buy from Camden in May but with 6 weeks I say they are best boots in the world. UK boots made in England with Solovair making label. We make so long for review but great guys and really great store.

If you want cheaply made Chinese DMs you can go to any shop in Camden, or any modern shopping area in the world. But if you want top quality British footwear served with deep knowledge and tradition, The British Boot Company is the place to go. I bought a beautiful pair of rare George Cox red and black interlace shoes, and the service was top notch. The shoes are not cheap, but they are absolutely fairly priced - you cannot find George Cox shoes cheaper anywhere else. This is a family-owned business which has been in the same location for over 150 years, which I appreciate greatly.
A. C.
I visited the shop for the first time recently with the aim of getting a classic pair of brown Doc Martens - the sort I used to wear in the 1990s. I walked in and outlined to Nick what I was looking for. He looked me up and down and immediately recommended a particular shoe which he fetched for me to try. It turned out he’d identified a shoe that I couldn’t have described to him accurately but was exactly right for me - classic DM but also suitable for professional wear. A case of mind-reading? More likely to be the result of devotion to the best of the brand and years of guiding customers in their decision-making. Customer service was top class, with careful checking of size and ensuring I knew how best to care for the shoes. (That’s why I always go to a shop in person when buying shoes rather than ordering on the internet.) The British Boot Company is definitely a first class destination for anyone thinking of investing in a good quality pair of DMs.
E.
Such a sick store! The guy Collin working there helped me out with picking a pair even after the shop was due to close up, and told me a bunch of historical stuff about creepers and the difference between the Doc Martens they sell versus the ones sold at large in stores which are lower quality. This is the place to go for the highest quality punk leather shoes - none of that cheap Underground stuff!
K. J.
I was amazed at how different Docs can be whether you buy them in a British shop or an Asian one. Not to rag on the Asian brands, but you have a lot of work to do to catch up with the original design. What I bought is first class quality leather made in England and I thank James for showing me the store. Sweet boy. This place needs to be in more Camden attractions rather than just the market and a bunch of pubs.
G. C.
The British Boot Company saved me from a lot of aggravation. James came to me and told me about the truth behind Doc Martens and after he smoothed the hell out of us with his Scottish accent we were in the shop saying goodbye to almost £450 for two pairs of Made in England.
In exchange for the cash, we now have the best pair of British made boots that money could buy. My girlfriend still talks about how cool this guy is and how if we hadn't met him we would almost definitely have bought some junk from Docs up in the Stables.
I'm Dutch-Indonesian and my wife is Portuguese-Senegalese, however we both live in England and haven't ever come across the information that James told us. The stuff we found out about Docs on the day were unreal and I'm actually kind of embarrassed to think that we would have gone to the market and bought that stuff.
I can't oversell this place. You gotta buy your boots here if you want a guarantee on quality goods and I can honestly say that it was the best decision I've ever made on such a large money purchase.
Love this place. Keep selling British and keep spreading the word. We'll do our part if you guys do yours. Safe keeping, guys, and much love from Gio and Melda.
P. D.
I'll tell you now. Don't be put off by the prices in this place. It's the biggest bargain you'll ever get if you want good boots. No word of a lie, I stand by this place 100% and it's the very reason I've been coming here since 1984. Forget the Doc shops - they'll only lie to you. Nick the man's grandson, Jim the big Prod and Colin running the shop are the finest lads you'll meet and they'll sell you something that will last a lifetime. I hope it's still here in another 30 years and I fully expect that it will be so.

Me and my addicted to Dr. Martens girlfriend were in London in 2014. We found this shop following a guy with a banner saying "Original Dr. Martens Ask Me". We thought that was a real direct ad, so we followed him to the shop. Guys, it was amazing just to see that! Every type of boot you can barely imagine was there. Never seen so much plenty of Dr. Martens and my girlfriend was lost in shapes, colors and fantasies she had never forget. Unfortunately we didn't have money at the time but as I just said, she didn't forget. After 5 years we were back. Again in Camden. Now searching absolutely for THAT BANNER, leading us to THAT SHOP. And so it was! After a few minutes outside the underground stop we saw the banner and the (very friendly) guy took us there. Again. Inside was even better than we remembered. There were the same two guys of the last time and we had a pleasant talk, discovering all that is behind the shop, the heritage, the family, the passion for the music and so. Guys, they really know what they're selling, especially Colin who's working there since his teen age. Having a look on all those Martens, as Colin said: "if you like those, I can show you what you're really searching for", my girlfriend found the boots she's always dreamt of. He took off some special models (exclusive for that shop) and...wow.. We REALLY haven't seen those colors and that quality in other shops worldwide! My girlfriend was stunned. She was there for a purple Dr Martens but she found THE purple Dr Martens. UK originals, don't forget! Now she's loving those boots more every day and no one in Italy have ever seen that color before (at the end this doesn't matter but it's the truth). What can I say guys? You can be sure we will visit you again in the future. Not just for boots. We found a real shop, not the usual supermarket. I always thought there's no sexier shoe than a Dr Martens and for us you've got the sexiest and the best ones. Thank You! :)

Stopped by the store today on a whimsy and wow was this place an experience!! I’m from America and this was only my second day in London out of a month and i set out on this trip dead set on buying a pair of Docs. My friend and I took a random trip to Camden Market and fate had it that we walked right into this place... the first place to ever sell dr. martens!!! the service was phenomenal and i couldn’t have bought my first pair of docs from any place better than this! great service and great history!! support this place; you won’t regret it! cheers!

Very friendly and helpful staff. I could not find the boots I wanted via the website, so they helped me to find the right boots via e-mail (Solovair Tritone Boots). Excellent service and very fast delivery. I could not recommend them more. The British Boot Company is the place to be for quality footwear. Thank you Stuart en Colin!
C. S.
A knowledgeable and approachable business keen to satisfy their customers. The widest range of styles and options from different manufacturers. This is a treasure trove of a shop for lovers of DM style boots without the pretentiousness of the DM stores

The last great Boot shop.
I love their Grinders Boots. Discovered them about 18 months ago and now have bought 6 pairs there. The customer service is like non other.
Today i was in for a pair of 14 hole Black Grinders. There are three options and they dug out them all, i tried them all, then i opted for a pair of size 10 of the high sole.
Laced all the way up by the guys. They even dug out an insole and white laces for me.
But they were actually too big round the heel and moved on the foot.
No trouble. Unlaced, changed for a 9 and laced up again for me.
The greasy black soft leather looks great against my Bleachers.
Sitting in the pub tonight loving my new boots.
N. P.
Just fantastic. I went in at the weekend wanting to try Solovair boots. I just had broken my second pair of Doc Martens in a year and had heard Solovair were the original makers of docs
Nick and the guys were so lovely. I often struggle to get boots to fit at all but they let me try on loads of sizes and styles before I found my perfect pair (9.5 if you have wide feet and usually wear a 10).
I cannot recommend them enough. Especially if you are going to spend money on a pair of shoes that are going to last. Everyone is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. A real passion for the industry.
If you are unsure you want to invest in a pair go in and see the guys.
Looking forward to going back to get my second pair!
Thanks again

Years I had dreamt of visiting this store. On my visit to London, I made sure to get a pair of boots here. Walking into the store I could feel the history. The man behind the counter could see I was in awe by the display of bar-laced Grinders and Solovair. No where in my life had I been able to try on a pair of Grinders and this was so exciting. I asked exactly what would be the best and he knew what I was looking for. STEEL TOE Grinders, cherry red and real high. No zippers. I got to chat with the man working there and I wish I could remember his name because he was so helpful. A regular customer came in and was talking him up and we all got to talking about the proper way to lace up boots and the strongest way to keep your boots. All in all the experience exceeded my wildest expectations, as I was visiting from NYC and had heard whispers of the British Boot Company from fellow Lower East Siders. This is a humble family owned business and I hope it sticks around for my grandchildren to get some boots too.

Had visited once and returned to buy my original shape Dr.Martins with brown leather! I do not like the new shapes on the company and was so happy to discover this little Boot store while choosing a route to walk through Camden that isn't the busy touristic st. I have had my DrMartin boot for more than 10 years and am happy to add up another pair that I will use for the rest of my life!
L. S.
Fantastic selection of boots and very knowledagable staff. I always come here for any boot related needs!
G. R.
I bought yesterday my second pair of Loake from The British Boots Company and I just love my new Chelsea boots in black polished leather! The shop has a huge selection of shoes and boots and both the owner and the employers are friendly and patient. I’ll definitely buy again from them! Thanks again guys ☺️
P.
Fantastic mix of boots and shoes and everything properly made in England! The shoes are nothing like you will find online and others claim to be Dr martens but a good shoe shouldn't hurt for ages whilst you break then in. When I first tried pair here of solovair did not hurt at all! Plus you can also find very rare boots which you can't get anywhere else so worth it to have something different from the crowd.

The best boot shop in Britain. Very knowledgable and helpful staff. I have used this shop for over 30 years and it is easily the best place to buy proper Made in England boots with many original vintage models that take me back to my youth. The choice is amazing and the stock level is incredible. I always get compliments from people when I wear my Solovairs and Loakes. You know they are going to last ( unlike many of the imported models that have flooded the market ). Give yourself a treat and a trip down memory lane, visit the shop, have some banter and buy a decent pair of boots. Cheers, Jim and Jennie.

Just bought a pair of Monkey boots from Nick...fantastic service and the best selection of quality shoes I’ve seen in a very long time... will definitely be going back soon.
H. H.
Nick the boss and Andy the punk were so welcoming and helpful while I bought shoes and boots for my family and I. They knew exactly what i was looking for after I explained it to them and found the perfect fit for me. They even remembered my name from the last time I visited them in 2015. They definitely have a great selection of boots that can only be found in London. I haven't seen pairs of original Dr. Martens or Solovair anywhere else i've visited which I was able to find at the British Boot Company in Camdentown. See you guys soon. Cheers!
S. G.
Bought 20 hole Grinders. The quality is amazing. Left the shop wearing them and they felt like I had been wearing them all my life... amazingly comfortable for brand new boots. I have worn DM's, Gripfast, TUK, New Rocks and Demonia and these Grinders are in a different league.
Also, great shop with 2 really great guys who really know about boots and are passionate about what they sell. And Andy even laced them up for me.
My girlfriend is eagerly awaiting for her size to come in stock because they look so good.
J. A.
All of the best boots in London are factually in THIS very shop in Camden. I picked up some British-made Grinders here and I've never been happier with a pair of boots. Whilst many Doc Marten's are now made abroad using cheaper materials, you'll find none of that stuff in here. Only full-hide, thick British boots which don't rely on split-hide polymer additives to fake it. If you want REAL boots, go HERE (end of discussion)
R. S.
I was stopped very politely by James in the street as he saw my Dr Martens bag and he explained very simply where they are made and I began to realise how poor they are! When we got to the amazing old school shop I was astonished at the state of my so called original Docs.
I took them back immediately with James at my side and got a refund to buy some TRUE ORIGINAL BRITISH BOOTS. Slightly more expensive but will no doubt let a lifetime in comparison to the Vietnamese rubbish sold to me earlier.
PEOOLE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED DO BOT BUT FROM THE DR MARTENS STORE.

didn''t know heaven was so small,
I planned to go to this store for 7 months, finally got there, Best store i ever went to in in my entire life (51years old). bought 2 pairs of solovair 11 eyelets, after i bought these i had interest in another pair of doc martens, but they didn't have them in my size. But they had something special from the vaults, an original doc martens dark-blue 10 eyelet boot from 1988!!. very big suprise , so i went home with 3 pair nice boots. Andy even ties up your laces when you try on your new boots, very good service
Much greetings from a very happy dutch new customer!!!

A hidden gem in the heart of London. This shop stocks a superb range of quality shoes and boots, and has a massive selection of styles to choose from. Friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and professional service. All three assistants/owners completely know their stuff and are experts on British Boot History from the 60's and 7-'s through to the current day. I bought a pair of dealer boots and when I got home, changed my mind about the colour. I Emailed them, got a quick reply, changed them a week later used in brand new sellable condition, and a swap was done for me without any problems or hassle. Will happily return any day. Any tourists visiting Camden/London, watch out for cheap quality fake British Boots elsewhere around the Lock. Do your research and it will lead you to this shop. A+++++++
A. J.
Staying at Palace Hotel in Strand I was encouraged to visit the famous Camden Market on my final day before heading to Lockness to see its the monster and I met this wonderfully friendly man outside the station and took me to the store and told me all about Camden's history with the Doc Martin boots. I went in to the store and if staff were a little sharp and quick to criticise but I think in good reason because I did not know so many Chinese knock off companies sell bad DM shoes. The Scottish man gave me recordment and I buy my first ever pair for £285 and I think is a great choice! He is so sweet and funny and I meet too the store manager who is with the shop in 30 years! I give this 5 star for such friendly charmer man and the boots are so nice. I will go to again maybe after I find the monster in this week.

My buddies were looking for boots in and around Camden when we came across this place on the final day of our vacation. It was almost a month ago now and I am REGRETTING not buying anything from this store...
I live in Utah and the shit we have on offer in Salt Lake is garbage compared to what I found in this shop! I spent a while and tried a few things on, but it was a real busy Saturday and I didn't want to spend £300 on boots so I wavered and thought "maybe next time" - God dammit!
The dude in the store was right, man, you can't get that quality anywhere else. I've been in LA since and even checked out a few other boots shops around London itself including Camden and NOTHING came close to what I saw in this shop.
I'm one of those guys who is now sitting at home thinking "why the hell didn't I buy them when I had them in my goddamn hand?"
Serious regret, man. I missed out. This place is the tits.
Much love from Utah - your store is the shit, bro!

After reading a few reviews about the shop on the net, I decided to go there and have a look myself, since I also wanted to buy some shoes. Well I certainly wasn't disapointed at all! This shop is GREAT! The display already shows many great looking shoes, and it's only the begining. Great smell of leather when you get inside. And more shoes on the wall, again great looking shoes! You'd want to buy them all! But the best is yet to come : the staff is not only really nice, but really really competent. The vendor kept on going back behind the store to get me the size of shoes I needed, while telling me all about the story of the Dr Martens brand and most especially the Solovair brand that I wanted to purchase. It's really important to have a seller with such knowledge and passion when you want to buy something that you really want like deep inside. You then know you came to the right place! I know, it's "only" shoes, but we're talking about the best brand of shoes, so when you're looking for the best, you come to the best place. And the BBC is that place. At least, that's what I firmly believe.
Thanks a lot for all the help, the talk, the back and forth inside the shop, and of course, for my new shoes :)
I'll be sure to come back there again next year and get some new pairs :)

You know I've never made a review for any place before but I felt compelled to do one today as I've just met a wonderful group of young men and the British boot company.
I was walking past the store yesterday and I thought it may just be another shoe store and I mistakingly walked past it but this fabulous fellow called Jim approached me and told me that it was the store he worked for and a lot about the history.
It was the first shop in the world to sell doctor marten boots and the owner of the store is the 4th generation proprieter of the establishment. I thought wow!
Now I have a brand new pair of gorgeous navy doctor marten boots and for a great price too. I can't wait to show them off back home!
Nick the shop manager is a gentleman and doing his folks proud to be running such a quaint vintage shop with such amazing stock and my new buff friend from Scotland was so sweet it made my last two days in Camden all the better for having met them and buy such a great souvenir for the road heading home.
Thank you guys!
M. R.
A friend of mine bought doc marts from the Camden store and we ran into Jim, who said that her doc marts were fake. That's not the only worst part, the fake ones broke within a few hours of wearing. Turns out, they were made in China - so Jim brought us over to his store and showed us the REAL deal. Proper boots made in Britain. We got out refund from the first store and brought the real doc marts from Jim's store.
I'm truly happy and blessed to have run into Jim and his colleagues over at the shop - only get the real doc marts here! They're super friendly and downright honest, 1000000% recommend to come here.

As a long-time Dr. Marten's fan, my boyfriend wanted to get a pair of boots from their origin country of England. We actually were going to go to the shop in Covent Garden but when we got off the tube at Camden Town there was a guy with a sign who led us to the shop (great idea otherwise we wouldn't have found the location!!). We were helped by Nick who informed us this location is the only place to get English made docs, which is what we wanted. He was incredibly helpful and friendly and even helped lace up the boots. Nick is the man! Definitely a highlight of our trip. Makes you feel like a friend. If you want a pair of high quality boots and excellent customer service, this is the place to go.

My "old" docs had given way - welt split from the sole, leather cracking - had bought them from the official Dr Martens store a little over 2 years ago (the "made in England" higher quality version). Went back to the official store with them - after a bit of a chat they sent me to the British Boot Company in Camden.
For someone who was wearing docs in the 1980s the British Boot Company's store was candy land. They're way out ahead of what the official docs store is now. I very quickly had an actual Dr Martens boot (like they used to be!) on my right foot and a Solovair on my left to try them out. Frankly the leather, fit and finish of the Solovair was superior for my foot and I bought them on the spot.
If you love docs forget about the branded stores, although the staff are great the stores aren't up to scratch and their stock is shoddy. You want the British Boot Company. You'll get original Doc's, Solovair, Grinders. Huge range of styles and fits. Will be back there myself before too long. Just don't nab the burnt orange 12 holes, got my eye on those.
L. T.
What a fantastic shop! Nick & Tom thank you so much for making my son’s 18th even more cool! 8 hole black Docs and his big sister bought Chelsea boots 🥾 too! See you soon love and thanks! Lisa Jude and Hannah!
T. M.
You guys rock! I spent about half the day with Colin and Jim a while back and I promised to leave them a review. I know they deserve it and I didn't mean for it to take this long... But... Life, ya know?
I absolutely love my boots and it was so funny how the other store reacted when I took theirs back. I'm still laughing about it now and how they tried to blame you for damaging them and saying that they supply you with your stock even though they don't sell the same boots LOL!
Love you both and a big hello from Wisconsin <3
H. R.
in love with my new boots + so very grateful to have found this place! ethically sourced and sold with spirit. thanks guys i will be back :)

So cool to buy quality boots at the British Boot Co. OG family owned and proudly operated. These guys know their boots and love what they do. We had a rad experience here. Highly recommend. We’ll be back to buy boots every time we vacation in the UK.
A. F.
WOW! What a shop!!! I bought a pair of the most beautiful purple Docs 🥾 the team of guys working there are hilarious, lovely and genuine (I even got a cuddle from the ‘Scotsman’)🏴 It’s a London experience that cannot be missed!!! WARNING ⚠️ YOU WILL SPEND ALL OF YOUR MONEY HERE ⚠️
Thank you Nick and Andy~the perfect duo to persuade me into best decision ever 🥾

Incredible little British boot shop with lots of history and punk attitude. Definitely the go to if your seeking some good leather foot wear. Much approved by cats 🐱 .
F. K.
A wide-fitting size 13 English leather Chelsea boot? Not a problem sir, replied the helpful and extremely knowledgeable chap as he went to fetch the desired footwear. Don't be fooled by the interior - this is old-school experience and expertise matched only by the finest English leather. It's as far beyond the likes of the wretched Dr. Martens store as a bespoke suit thrashes Top Man and the kind of place you don't hesitate to get your wallet out. Try it, ask all the awkward questions you can think of but I guarantee you'll leave with a smile and a very fine pair of shoes.

If you live in North London and you are interested in British icons and enjoy quality footwear sold with expert knowledge and great customer service, you must visit here!
The guys have the kind of knowledge that can only come from years of experience. They are friendly and helpful and have good conversation and great anecdotes. A real pleasure to shop there and the best quality boots and shoes you can buy.
Just bought a pair of Strummer creepers by George Cox. Comfortable, smart and top quality. Couldn't be happier!

I visited the British Boot Company to find a real pair of Doc Martens. I am so glad I did. I walked away with new old stock Docs and new Solovair shoes. The Docs I bought have been in stock since 1995 and are the real thing: none of the rubbish that pass as Docs today. I highly recommend the British Boot Company for old style customer service and original quality Docs and Solovair boots and shoes.

Review (for 30+ people)
Everyone once in his/her life has to visit BBC(not the channel) shop.
Are you show-off?! And need a pair to shine on next gig?! Here you go some creepers! 10 holes shiny steel toes! Anything you want mate!
Or maybe you a working class lad like myself and spend 10-12 hours in your shoes every bloody day, and you had enough of pain in your knees and your back, then you have to invest in a pair. I got myself a pair of Grinders shoes. I haven`t feel better since! A month later, I forgot about all my troubles, and most important I forgot about pain in my knees and back.

Big huge massive 5 stars!!!!!
Highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for boots in London. It isn't just Docs, they have a huge range of others as well as about 100 styles I've never seen before and all of this came from a random chance encounter with a guy on the street who showed us in the door :-P
l. c.
Great little shop! Greeted at the door, staff are pleasant and the shoes they have is incredible! I must say thank you to your awesome Scottish assistant who helped us find the shop and avoid the Asian knock-off place that we were seconds away from going to. Thanks xx
M. H.
I first started using this place in the 80's when it was called Holts and I believe was run by the current manager's grandfather. It is a great shop with great choice and very knowledgeable staff. I went up to buy one of the last ever pairs of "made in England" 1490's. My previous pair has done me proud for best part of a decade. (I only need the new ones as one of my feet has changed size following it getting broken last year!) As DM's have shifted manufacture to Thailand the quality has dropped dramatically. Thankfully the Brit Boot Co has a few remaining proper DM's plus a large range of Solvairs, George Cox etc. PLUS the staff speak a load of different languages, not fluent I grant you but a very welcoming thing to do and a sign of a good focus on customers. I think it is worth going here and spending a few quid more and getting boots that are not disposable and destined to clog up landfill within 6 months of purchase.
O. M.
I wouldn't have known about the store if it wasn't for the dude who accosted me on the street. I've been buying Doc shoes in Melbourne for a few years now and I didn't ever know that there was such a difference in quality with the British brand shoes.
Guys, for anyone who is interested in buying shoes this is the place to be! The guy told me that the store is like 160 years old and all the famous dudes who shopped in there like Ewan McGregor and The Clash.
I have brown shoes from them now and I'm going to maybe get one or two more online from them. My old brown ones and my others from Melbourne pale by comparison!
Can't say enough, guys. Thanks to the dude who made me see the light and a big cheers to the dudes inside! I meant what I said, guys, drinks are on me next time!
R. M.
This is the place I always come back to for top quality shoes made in England: George Cox, Solovair, Grinders, Loake and proper Dr Martens (not the new rubbish of the modern Chinese brand sold in Dr Martens stores). If you are looking for value for money and shoes that last shop here.
P. R.
Great service, ordered online a few days before Christmas and received them today Christmas Eve as promised 😀
G. H.
Absolutely great shop! Spent the day wandering around Camden after some 1461 DM shoes and was fairly uninspired by what I found. British Boot Company was the last on my list as I wanted to see what the many shops in Camden had, probably shouldn't have bothered with any other shop. Went into the shop and Nick pulled out a pair of 1461 Royal Mail Industrial DMs, the quality of the shoe was apparent from the get go and much better than what I'd seen wandering round Camden all afternoon. There was an issue with their card machine on the day so I asked if they could be reserved until the day after which wasn't a problem at all, turned up the next day and Nick had dug out some standard industrial DMs from his warehouse overnight so I could have the choice between the Royal Mail and the standard DM logo on the shoe.
From walking into the shop the service was excellent, even checking that the shoes fit properly and sorting out some insoles as the 8s were a little big and the 7s a little small, we then proceeded to have a great little chat about everything shoe related and about Camden.
This experience was so much more than walking into a shop to buy a pair of shoes, could not recommend more!
T. M.
Ordered some George Cox creepers online on Christmas Eve - shipped internationally and arrived in Canada 10 days later, which is pretty good given the holiday period. Excellent shoes as always. They are pricey, but that’s just because they are. The same shoes cost the same amount everywhere... Would definitely buy again.
D. B.
A warning to all reading this. This is what you get when you buy from the Doc shop instead of the true British brand shop. Scratched in the box, cracked on the top after I wore them twice and the leather is splitting on the side after five wears.
A. W.
This place is like a wet dream for DM fans. Jim the gorgeous Scotsman talked me in to coming to his store and showed me the difference between what I had already bought and the authentic brand of British footwear, made in this country and not by some children in a sweaty labour factory in Asia. I love my new boots and my husband will be best pleased just to know I didn't come home with some faulty junk that was already busted up in the box.
C. W.
Possibly the most old-school shoe shop in London: no music, one mirror (floor-level), limited seating, a wall of brown shoeboxes reaching to the ceiling, great service, some of the most iconic British brands ever. Basically, if you like the Dr Martens shop and its daft tote bags proclaiming 'Love my Docs' , you'll probably find the experience here unstimulating. If you like shoes – of a certain kind, admittedly – you'll love it. If you want DMs, you'll find them here, but also their better, truer cousins: Solovair, Grinders, George Cox (plus a stash of vintage deadstock). Shoes made by men in fawn warehouse coats with roll-ups tucked behind their ears in 1950s factories in Northampton. I bought a pair of George Cox pointed shoes here about seven years ago and I've never looked back. I've also never looked down without being made happy again. If you know what you want, they'll provide it. If you don't, they'll suggest something. There's no hard sell and it's not full of throwbacks in funny hats. It's full of people from Dubai and Tokyo and Buenos Aires and Bromley after something a bit special. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Do yourself a favour and get some boots or shoes you'll wear every day. I intend to be buried in a pair of George Coxes that will poke through the coffin lid like in 'Leningrad Cowboys'. Haven't decided on the colour yet. My favourite shop in London. Don't go on Saturday afternoon – it's a nightmare.
E. B.
What a pleasant little shop. I exchanged my Dr. Martens from another shop to buy these ones, as a very charming man called James showed me the truest quality of boot that money can buy. I really love them and thank you so much for the kisses :-*

A regular stop for me whenever I am in London. Incredible selection of DM-style boots, with a passionate and well-informed staff, quality English-made products (why go to London to buy boots made in China? Just buy them at home...) and a good amount of (friendly) punk attitude to make it a true destination. If you are not sure what to but, just ask for help. The staff really knows their stuff and will find a great boot (or shoe) for you. The boots are top quality and very, very English. A "must" for any fan of genuine English footwear.
L. C.
Such a pleasure to be served by knowledgeable people - until today I had no idea one foot was slightly bigger than the other, so my new shoes are as comfortable as coutured. A small, crowded but amazing shop.
S. E.
This is the only boot shop you ever need to bother with. The service is top notch and they are more than willing to help find the right boots/shoes for you and not just push what they want to sell. The choice of styles and colours is unbelievable and they even lace you up if you want. I'm even going to buy my smart work shoes here as they've got everything you could ever need. Thanks guys, you're the best!
J. L.
Visited shop this morning. Wow what fabulous customer service from both Nick and Andy. I now have my 1st ever pair of Dr Martin and my husband has a new pair of solovair boots. We definitely buy from here again. Learnt so much about British brands. Lesson for the day #yougetwhatyoupayfor.

After a lengthy discussion with the store manager, Nick, I realised that I had been getting conned by the Doc shop for years and never once knew this little gem even existed. I had actually heard way back that there was an original store, but never really thought to look in to it. It makes total and complete sense why my vintage Docs lasted me 12 years and yet since I replaced those in 2012 I've honestly gone through something like 10 pairs. Nick is the man and the fact that this place has been going for 168 years speaks for itself. The Doc shop in Camden will be lucky to be there in another 10. Loved the big man on the floor as well pure layin' in to them. His Scottish accent only made his insults all the more funny and intimidating at the same time. Nick, you've got my business from here on out.
J. L.
Been to the store on 3 seperate occasions now for work shoes and the service in this place just keeps getting better. Impeccable standards, a range of shoes to die for and Nick and the guys are an incredible bunch. Been to the Doc shop in town and it doesn't have a patch on these guys. Jim and Colin seem like stand out guys as well and I hope the store is here for many years more.
J. A.
The best shop in Camden!!! Been coming here for nearly 20 years and I never shop anywhere else. George Cox, Loakes, you name it and they have the biggest assortment. Nick has taken on the business and done a grand job. Nice to meet Rangers-mad Jim on the front as well and hope the boys continue the legacy for many years to come!
H. D.
Amazing Boot shop ever.
I love this shop.
British Boot Company sells high quality leather Doc Martens and Solovair boots and shoes. If you cant get it here you can't get it anywhere or its never been made. The staff are very helpful, friendly, very knowledgeable and know everything there is to know about DM's and Solovair's. Have bought many pairs of boots and shoes over the years and never had a bad pair or a problem.
A. S.
Incredible selection, premium quality (made in England )matched with unrivaled knowledge /passion and service! Let's get this straight, this is an independent, family run shop (both important points in a world of globalization! )which is increasingly rare now! Both myself and my daughter bought beautiful Grinder boots which we both (a month later )still love! We need to support companies like these and give them our custom, otherwise they'll disappear like so many other great British brands! Quite simple! Keep up the good work, and thank you! Adam (we'll be back soon )
G. E.
Here lads I told ye I'd leave a review when I was down in August but I've just not long got an order from ye and the boots are outstanding! Felt like a right heel so I'll leave ye one now and say thank you very much.
Bloody brilliant wee shop that is and you've made an Ulsterman a very proud man to have that muck of my feet and back to old school British shoes.
That's my third purchase now since I first visited ye last December and I promise there's a lot more to come.
Big shout to Nick running the joint and Proddy Jim doing a cracking job and ye other man Colin as well.
British and proud lads keep it up and the word will be passed on you better believe that.
J. P.
I first found this shop when I was 17 and came to London to learn english. I told myself that one day I will come back and buy proper shoes there. Today I am much older and decided to take a trip to London just because of this shop and here I am with a perfect electric blue solovair boots. At first I was thinking about the price, but then I could not get the blue boots out of my mind and had to come back and get them.
Thank you to Nick - the 4th generation owner and his colleague. We chatted together about the brand and history and about the shop while trying on the boots. Don't be affraid to come in and ask.
Very happy with my purchase.
C. P.
THE REAL DEAL. Many styles here and built to last. Absolute gentleman in this boot shop. I don't frequent The British Boot Company that often because the boots last so long... But it's a comfort to know it's still going strong. I recently popped in to grab a second pair of Solovair Hawkins (tasty boot btw) and Nick recognised me from years back. He's passionate about his products and not shy in telling the truth about inferior made boots. If you want the genuine article then this is the ONLY shop to go to. History is in the stitching.
C. H.
Awesome friendly service from Nick and Andy who are clearly very passionate about what they do and were happy to answer my questions about how the boots are made and where the materials are sourced. Went in on a whim one day, had a good chat and went straight back the next day to pick up a pair of Solovairs.
It was a refreshing reminder that if you look hard enough there are still independent businesses that take pride in their service. Super impressed with the whole experience!
S. M.
A trip to London for my birthday and a chance to see the British Boot Company for another pair of George cox shoes
After deciding on burgundy a quick call to nick who very kindly put them back for me
After a cheery greeting we got down to the serious business of shoes after enquiring about a leather soled pair nicks colleague dug through boxes and boxes to produce the only pair in the shop so after a bit of negotiations I left with two pairs!!!!!!!!
Now that’s what you call service and bloody good business
Well done nick and team. Very happy and just thinking which colour next
Andy from Somerset

This store is amazing! I had such a great time visiting London and all of my place I go to see this is honestly one of the highlights. The store was opening in 1851 and this is like little Victorian time place with all the shoes maybe 350 on display from the shop and is all made in England. I love it! I would not go anywhere to England in London now again for my shoes because this is the best place! Great history, very nice staff and friendly all to me and my girlfriend is really was a great shop.
T. D.
This place celebrates quality and authenticity. A treasure trove for boot lovers. A pair of boots from here are a staple of your style and the antithesis of fast fashion. I have several pairs of Loakes, made-in-England Dr Marten's and Solovairs and they have all lasted me for years. These guys are very knowledgable and are serious about high quality, iconic British footwear with an extensive range in stock. Not many independent stores like this left.
J. F.
The cosiest little shop right next to Camden Town station, a must go for shoe lovers and tourists in look for a proper London shop!
Made in England goodness, with very special and rare stock. I buy all my shoes from there, and have had my oldest pair for a couple of years: the best quality in DM airwair, for suuuure.
Great staff, very friendly and welcoming can tell you all about the story of the great british brands they sell, and they lace up your boots hehe.
My favourite shoe shop in the whole entire world 100%.
T. K.
Great shoes and great people - Nick and Tom are super helpful and have impressive knowledge of their products and the company history. Always a pleasure to buy shoes from them. 10 out of 10 !!
B. R.
Having been looking round the West End for Boots my brother told me to try the British Boot Company.
The staff including the owner were all very knowledgeable of all the products they sold. I walked out with a very nice pair of "SOLOVAIR" made in England 8 hole boots.
Looking forward to wearing these in, thanks for all your help guys.
One happy customer
S. K.
I really like this shop. With James and the way he speaks with this very nice accent from Scotland I just want to listen all day. My new shoes from this Air Ware range but coming from England not like the other shops.
Greetings from Cologne and thank you again.
m.
Had an excellent experience coming across this shop in historic Camden. As soon as you know what you're looking for, the staff has an infinite knowledge of the boots that'll serve you for the next decade and beyond. Andy, who helped us out, gives it to you straight, no sugar, but was one of the nicest people we've met here in London. He still rocks a bright orange mohawk, and has been slinging boots here for 16 years. But gauranteed, if you want a quality pair of boots with passion behind them, this is your shop.
S. H.
By far the best place for good quality, traditional, made in England boots and shoes. Will not find anything else like it. Nick and Collin are knowledgeable and dedicated.
O. S.
What a great place. Far more than just a shoe shop, British Boot Company is an institution that should be at the very top on everyone’s list when looking for a new pair of boots/shoes.
I’ve bought 5 pairs of boots/shoes here in the last couple of years. The quality of the footwear on sale here is unrivalled in my opinion and has great variety on my two favourites Solovair and Loake as well as some very rare old school DM’s from when they were still made in England.
Before knowing of The British Boot Company, I had bought DM’s in High Street chain shoe shops or AirWair stores and it’s fair to say the quality was not good, the staff generally didn’t know much about what they were selling and overall it’s fair to say I just accepted it. In stark contrast, everyone at British Boot Company knows exactly what they’re selling, their advice is always spot on and every pair I’ve bought here have been excellent.
In a time when local and family run shops and small businesses are suffering due to corporate might, this is one such small business that deserves all the support of anyone looking for a decent new pair of boots! Don’t waste your time with Air Wair DM’s, get down to British Boot Co. and get some Solovair’s!
J. W.
Just been in the shop, and wow what a shop it is. The original store to sell Dr Martens, however they specialise now in Made in England footwear. Great choices, colours and many models. Definitely better than the modern Dr Martens stores. Will come again and so should you.
J. B.
This place is lovely and the number of boots on display is quite incredible.
I've never bought a pair of Docs before and this was created through the power of persuasion and an irresistible accent.
So sweet to talk me through my time and a kiss on the cheek to see me on my way <3
D. S.
I was taken to the shop by a beautiful Scottish man with the most gorgeous accent I have ever heard! The shop in itself is wonderful and it has the biggest range of boots I've ever seen before, but the experience was topped off purely by the personal service given by the staff.
J. S.
That accent! Oh :-P***
I had to get out of there while I still had money in my account, but hands down I can absolutely swear to you that there is no other boot shop like this and the staff are helpful, attentive, informative and willing to bend over backwards to accommodate your every need.
I saw them piling up boxes after boxes and fitting people with a number of boots just to give them what they wanted. I wish all shops were like that.
We didn't even buy anything and Jim the sales guy was thanking us and telling us to come back anytime and we're always welcome in the shop. So nice and good to see that for a change. The guys took such pride in their product and that isn't so common nowadays.
P. M.
I have been buying products from British Boot Company online from overseas since 2012 and have always found their service to be excellent. During that time, their shipping time from the UK to USA has dramatically sped up and I’m now able to receive orders from them at my door in only a few days (versus several weeks from other UK based vendors). In addition to quick fulfilment, communication with the staff via email is equally swift and they have always taken the time to answer whatever questions I had before ordering. If you are looking for high quality products -- many of them exclusive -- with that “Made in Britain” magic to them, I wholly recommend getting your footwear here.
C. D.
You don't hear a smooth, ear-tingling Scottish accent in London too often, but I was glad I did when I came walking past the station with my Docs in hand last week.
Jimmy boy offered me to see his store and my God it was amazing!
Rangers boy to the core, he showed me what an actual authentic Doc Marten is supposed to look like and shone a light on the tragedy that I had in my box. I felt like a right nungy!
Within the hour I was back at the Doc shop to return their fine Vietnamese brand and walked away home with a lovely pair of Solovair blue tag.
Hope to see you down the gym some time!
J. S.
For all of the things you may be able to say that's bad about the store, for example:
Tiny and cramped? Absolutely.
Overpriced? Yes.
Hard to find? F#CK#NG BRUTAL!
The one thing you can't take away from the store is the quality of their boots. I remember it differently as a young man, coming here with my dad at 17 and meeting Nick around 2004 at the time when he had only been in the store about ten years and still a young man himself.
Now, the store is still there and the talk of the town in many ways (amidst the real hardcore of boots fans, at least) and I can only hope it will still be there for years to come so that I may be able to take my boy there when he's grown.
A bit old for Doc boots myself but I had to re-visit for the sake of nostalgia. The range on display in this place is extraordinary and their brand of George Cox along with the Loakes, Creepers and Brogue-style shoes are something else. Top shelf. ABSOLUTE QUALITY.
Here's to another two decades and to seeing old man Nick with his walking stick in 2036.
R. c. M.
Nice guys in store, plenty of history and they are so knowledgible about the brands they sell. Didn't know anything about Doc Martins history or the buyover from abroad. Scotsman filled me in and I was sold on arrival. Met the owner and I'm now the owner of a new pair of vintage Docs sure not to be found anywhere else. Proud of that!
D. N.
Quality products that last for years and years. The guys were really helpful. Proud owner of an amazing pair of new walnut Solovairs. I want to head out just to wear them! Very happy customer. They also had every type of boot I liked in the size I wanted (on site).
A. M.
A brilliant little store, the only place to buy Doc Martens and other sturdy, comfy shoes in London, if not the world. The staff are so helpful and willing to tell you a story about a famous customer. Everyone I know gets their boots from here - its the only place to get them.
B. M.
Nick from the British Boot Company was incredibly helpful and made buying my first pair of Dr. Martens an experience rather than just a transaction. I was about to buy some from Camden High Street but I'm glad I swung around the corner to this incredibly authentic boot shop. Thanks Nick!
A. R. F. C.
I buy my DMs since 1981 in this historic Camden Town shop. It's now a worldwide reference! Quality, services and available "Made in England" models and brands are very good. Shipments abroad after website orders are very fast. Many thanks to the team to also have kept the rock atmosphere and spirit of the shop ;-)
J. C.
Ordered a pair of Loake - Black Smooth Leather Brogue Boots ( the DR Who Boot lol) online as a treat to myself, a couple of days later i received a phone call from the shop telling me unfortunately the warehouse was out of stock and my card was being refunded. But they did have my boot in the shop itself and could post to me if I still wanted them, card details given over the phone and 2 days later my boots were delivered.
Guy on the phone could not have been more helpful and had some interesting things to say about the boots, suffice to say I now own the most awesome pair of boots ever and will definitely use these guys again . Thank you so much
M. B.
In my element... me happy!
Kid in a candy store with my two new pairs of shoes, one brogue, one steel toe cap. You couldn't get these in Australia!
British Boot Company, Cambden - been buying my Grinders, Solovair, original British Docs at this shop since 1980. If u want the best made British boots GO TO THIS SHOP! Highly recommended the service and range are fantastic!
w. c.
Colin gave me great advice, and also the entire history of Dr Martens vs Solovair vs George Cox. I Purchased a beautiful pair of George Cox Monkey Boots. Would thoroughly recommend this store!
B. R.
I was able to get everything I need from a new pair of quality work boots. The guys in the store were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I'll probably buy Grinders for the rest of my life.
Anybody that complains about the boots giving them cuts or blisters, has clearly never broken in a real boot.
I finally found a place that sells quality boots. No more Chinese knock offs!
R. M.
If they’re good enough for Paul Weller, Madness and The Specials... Great boots, service and chat. The only place to buy boots.
S. S.
Recent trip to Camden, and after a couple of website purchases in the last few years I took the opportunity to visit to the bricks and mortar store. Great range of hand-crafted footwear, and the guys are truly passionate about their products. I left some time later with a pair of very limited edition Solovair boots, some incredibly comfortable steel toe Grinders, and the intent to return in the future.
M. L.
For us the best shoe store in London. If you looking for real made in England boots like solovair or Dr martens this is the place. A family owned business with helpful staff, we get so many informations about the boots and the storys behind them. A legendary store and also a piece of english music history. we leave with one great pair on Thursday and another pair on saturday and we will defenetly come back next year, thank you guys !!
R. S.
Personell in the store are fantastic! The friendly Scotsman, Colin who picked out like 3 different pairs just to find me the ones I wanted and Nick in charge who has 34 years experience.
These guys know their stuff! Only place in Camden for Doc Martens.
s. s.
been hunting for a new pair of docs for a while now and, came across the british boot company on the web
it s hard to find 20 eye docs these days but they have them in stock plus a wide range of other makes as well.
I ordered 2 pairs in black and cherry red which I paid for through the web site on sunday .on Tuesday had a phone call from them to say the website did not have them in my size but they had them in the shop.
they refunded me on the card on the Tuesday, I reordered them through the shop their and then . today is Thursday and I have both pair delivered now that is service for you.
people if need to buy a iconic pair of boots go to the British boot company you will not be disappointed. I certainly am not.
top service nick thanks once again.
L.
The staff here do, as others have pointed out, have a bit of an attitude but it's well-intentioned, as these guys have a very genuine passion about footwear. Personally I found their blunt attitude refreshing and open, and I enjoyed their humour. Visiting the store is like visiting an old fashioned cobbler, in that the staff actually know a lot about shoes and the brands they sell, as opposed to some disinterested kid in a high street store who is just there for a paycheck.
Unlike the modern DM brand, which prioritises profit over quality and exploits brand loyalty while churning out boots far inferior to the ones they used to make, the boots here are likely to last you a long time. The stock here is all manufactured in England and the prices reflect that.
And the staff are really great at helping out suggesting pairs of shoes based on what you like, and helping you try them on. A special shout out to the chap with the mohawk (I didn't quite catch his name) who laces up shoes faster than a bullet! I left with a pair of 11 hole Solovair steel-toed boots in cherry red, which they laced up with an eyecatching pair of orange laces for me. Very happy customer and I'll definitely be back when I'm on the hunt for something cool again.

The only genuine store for DM's in Camden!
Thanks to James and his adorable Scottish dialogue for turning our purchase around at the pretend Doc store in the market.
Watch out, ladies! That accent will getcha!
Back home in Michigan now after a month in the UK and buying these boots were the highlight of my trip. If it wasn't for James' wizardry I wouldn't even have them.
Much love xx

Great shop. Very friendly staff. Nick was very helpful. Overall an outstanding experience.

The best place for original UK made shoes, owner Colin gives you good advice and a fair price for quality products !

These guys really know their stuff. Telling me all about punk history and the bands associated with the brand. Jim with his accent charming the girls from Spain and letting me know about the manufacturing process abroad. Nick hooked me up with new Grinders and everyone in the ME is wondering where I bought this new unknown brand of boots. I love them! You guys rock.

This place has a great order service online. Quick and easy and the boots came in immaculate condition, which isn't always the case when I've order Docs in the past from ASOS or the Doc Shop online. Cheers to the big man outside the shop for introducing me to this place and hope Gerrard can take the mighty Gers back to the top! Thanks, guys.
M. J.
I've been wearing docs since i was a child in the 70's. Todays version is not the same product. Docs are now a fashion item and made for the moment. They don't last, they don't keep their appearance. I know, i have a couple of new Docs. Disappointing. That's why i visited this shop last weekend.
The place is different. Its not a shop, more of a shrine. The owner identified my very old and worn Docs as a production item made 25 years ago for the US market. Just by looking at them. He knew the shop where i bought them. I couldn't remember the name, he did.
If you come here you will be sold a very expensive pair of shoes or boots. The pair i bought look beautiful. I think, i hope they will last as well as all my previous uk made footwear. In which case they will actually be very cheap. I'll let you know in 2040 if i'm still alive.

Small but perfect shop for getting some great shoes by a range of British manufacturers. The owner and staff are always helpful and friendly

i have never written a review before but this was deserving of one - nick asked me to post what we thought and i would say this is the absolute top dog for british boots in london! i spoke to james almost a month ago outside the shop and took my time working here to look around for other offers but i had to come back to the british boot company! absolutely outstanding and i walked away on saturday with a new pair of dm boots that i will (hopefully) have for a lifetime! best in town guys seriously.
S. N.
The British Boot Company is the premier English footwear dealer. They have colors and styles from beloved English manufacturers that you simply will not find anywhere else. Believe me I have looked. The staff is also very friendly and helpful, and will do their best to find you the boots (or shoes) you're looking for.

Walking into the British Boot Co in Camden is a real treat for boot lovers! One of the first places to sell Dr Martens in the UK, the boots decorate the walls of this cosy, family run shop. With its vast collection of all the best, British made boots (a lot of which are made exclusively for the store) you'll find yourself totally spoiled for choice.
The knowledgable and friendly staff showed me a pair of Grinders which I previously hadn't considered but am now so pleased I found. Not only are they super hard wearing and come in a variety of classic styles they're also still made in England which is great because it means they really do last.
The British Boot Co is a must visit if you're in London - an American friend I sent there said she felt like she had a little piece of Camden history to take home with her after buying boots at this iconic shop.

The best boot buying experience I've had. Bought some huge steel toe Dr Martin's. The most comfortable boots I've owned. Thanks mates!

To the hunky Scotsman at the British Boot Company: thank you so much for being such a sweet guy! Filming a video for our friend back in Cape Town to tell her about the history of your store was something that you didn't have to do, but you did and we appreciate it so much!
Loved your accent (I'm sure you hear it all the time) and you will be getting an order from South Africa very soon. My friend loved the video and immediately fell in love with what you showed her.
Bye, guys. We'll see you on our next visit!

Simply the best! Andy hand-picked the perfect boots for me and my husband found a great pair of shoes. Probably the best service I’ve received in a very long time. I plan to be a repeat customer.

This shop is the reason why we come to Camden and this was not for Scottish James stopping to tell us then we would not have found it. We are saying such thank you to you and I promise we will return. We are so disappointed and upset that we think that the market shop selling only their Asian manufactured boots was the authentic product. We are actually embarrassed and we thank you for giving us so much time in your store to show us the actual English factory boots.
W. M.
Just got my boots in the mail last Thursday; even better than I imagined!
Still got my pair from 2017.
Thanks, guys.
Lovely store, by the way. I haven't been down since March, but I should visit again in the Spring.
D. M.
We came to the store yesterday and although I'm not in to typical British fashion, my mum and I wanted to return and see our boots that we noticed from the day before. The man with his Scottish accent helped us to learn about the history and it was very cool to be in such an old store with so many customers from many countries speaking different languages.

Been wearing George Cox and Robot shoes since the early 80's. The best (quality) shoe (boot) shop in town, good guys too. Wore my new Gibson's out of the Shop.... and they posted my 'everydays' back to me.

Reading reviews of the Doc Martens shop and doing a little digging online, I found this place and it turned out to be the jewel of the industry.
Nick and his family have been running the place for over 70 years and I was honoured to be inside. Thanks to Jim too and I will see you guys another time.

I came to London under the impression that Doc Martens came from somewhere in Germany - I was wrong! I was invited to the store by a man on the street working outside and when I entered I met the owner and the shop was packed with people from places like Holland, Japan and Italy. I was told about the origins of the shop and after trying on three different pairs I ended up walking out with a limited edition pair of Docs NOT MADE IN CHINA OR VIETNAM, but 100% pure British! For Doc lovers the world over I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

I have purchased a number of excellent George Cox shoes from BBC and they are truly excellent. Nick is a fountain of knowledge with regard to shoes and the service is frankly excellent.
If you want something a little different to walk around in, then get noticed and take a visit to The British Boot Company.........you won't be disappointed!
M. H.
Great shop with a great selection of 'made in England' shoes & boots. The owner Nick is more than helpful and very knowledgeable. My George Cox creepers have been a particularly good buy!

Great iconic store.Been buying shoes and boots here for over 40 years. Great service. Owner fluent in many languages.
Although more expensive than a general DM, store, much better quality.
Highly recommended.

Hey, guys! The boots are home, safe and sound. Hope you all have a great new year (and new decade, for that matter) and we're sending you our love from back in Alberta, Canada.
To Jim, Nick and Colin: you guys are the best!
Have an amazing 170th year at the British Boot Company!
W. m.
Nick has been doing an outstanding job in this place for over 30 years and the quality of the product in store just keeps getting better! The only place in Camden for original stock and the real spiritual home for any avid Docs lover. Good to meet Jim and Colin in the store and I'll be back in Wrexham with my new kicks by Saturday...
M. L.
Boot paradise! Brilliant shop, staff really helpful and friendly. Proper British-made Docs and a huge range of other boots and shoes. Best shop in Camden.
E. W.
A very "real" shop. Friendly staff who completely understand the heritage of all the products they sell. Amazing selection of leathers and some really beautiful one-offs. Really worth a visit for boots if you're in London.
Cheers guys!

A great bunch of guys! The kid with the Scottish accent is hilarious and a mad Rangers fan to boot, I had a good bit of banter with Colin the Gooner and Nick. Amazing to have owned the business for over 30 years and had it in the family for 160-odd years. Thanks for my boots!
L. W.
Day two of my journey through Europe and my friend was desperate to see this place after Jim the Scottish hunk approached her on the street. Took us in, showed us the shop and even though SHE'S THE BIGGEST DOC FAN IN THE WORLD! I end up buying a pair :-P
As it goes, it may be the best decision ever. The general manager was cool and Jim with his wonderful accent left all of us giggling for about half an hour after we had left.
Sent packing on the back of "you're welcome back anytime, ladies. It was my pleasure" *feels faint all over again* LMAO!

Posting on behalf of my grandpa, he came in to your store around 3 weeks ago and asked me to do him a favour by writing about the store and his experience there.
He first came to know your store around 1963, when he bought shoes for his wedding at a shop called Holt's. He came back and re-visited through the 70's and 80's, but his visit in town this month came due to his first great-grandchild being born in Islington at Royal Whittington and he came back for a touch of nostalgia.
He will be celebrating his 80th birthday on the 3rd of December and he wanted to say a big thank you to one of his favourite shops for being of great service to him for almost 60 years.

Great place to buy boots from. Wife and I called in and just by looking at our feet the staff knew what fit of boots we needed. Courteous and attentive people, too. Will definitely be back next year when we are back in the UK.

Amazing store with lovely staff. The Scotsman Jim showed us around and told us many things about docs and the store itself. They sell the real UK made docs which are a rare find these days. Huge assortment every docs lover should visit.

I live in Australia. So to find a place that not only stocked Dr Martens but in my opinion the only place to get Doc's. They were helpful, informative and so easy to deal with. Stuart assisted me in my online purchase. And believe me I asked lots of questions, as I needed to be certain i was buying the right thing. Fast answers.
Fast shipping. And received my order promptly.
Thanks

What a great shop... Knowledgeable and really friendly guys in a shop filled to the rafters with some great looking shoes and boots.
I had been looking for a pair of stylish and hard wearing icononic shoes for some time. Something that has that certain look and at the same time will last and be comfortable. Popped into the British Boot Company yesterday and found exactly what is was looking for: A beautiful pair of Solovair Gibson Brogues. They look and feel like they were made exactly for me.
The guys in the shop were so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I would thoroughly recommend this "old school shop" to anyone with taste and a desire to own some great icononic footwear. Also had a great chat about Joe Strummer and his choices of footwear. Always a bonus and put a smile on my face...
Thanks for the help guys, will definitely be back for more...

Here we are going to Camden thinking that the DM flagship store was in the market and then we meet this promotions guy for the Boot company. Seriously THANK GOD for that dude. I was as skeptical as the next person would be but when we eventually got to the DM store in the market we couldn't believe that just 15 minutes before we were going to buy stuff there.
Awful AWFUL place with gaudy boots that look as if they were thrown together by some kid for his fashion school recital. We're now home with brand new 1460 original Docs from the real store at the Boot company.
Big thanks to the dudes inside and to the dude holding the banner! You rock.
A. F. C.
I felt instant pride walking in this shop and seeing the big man on the front wearing his Rangers gear. What can be more British than that?
Doc Martens are a staple of British fashion and Rangers are the quintessential British football club.
WE ARE THE PEOPLE!
Keep up the good work, boys.

I have had nothing but outstanding customer service from the BBC! I live in Michigan USA and have ordered 4 pairs of George Cox Creepers at different times. I think the longest a pair took to arrive was one week, and one pair was received in 3 days. Stuart is always quick to respond to emails, and the shoes are of the highest quality. I feel like they will outlast me! Thanks British Boot Co!
J. B.
I picked up a pair of navy blue stag 11-eyelet boots (GRINDERS) from the store a little while back and had meant to review the place I got them from.
Wanted a pair of navy blue boots, but several of the brands I had checked out already had fallen short of expectations once I actually had them in my hand.
In this store, however, I was spoiled for choice!
M. S.
Thank you for the help finding the store to Jim and for showing us a pair recommended by Nick that was the best fit and still not a single flaw in the material since buying them over 4 months ago. I know the review has come a bit late but much love from all the family who visited your store all the way from Switzerland, Albania and Sweden.
R. F.
If it wasn't for the man with the coolest accent in the world I don't know what we would have done. I would like to think I would have realized our mistake before we went home, but the truth is that it took a very slick Scotsman to point out our error before we had gone too far and we were able to return our boots and buy British ones instead. He took us back to the shop and returned the knock-off garbage we had been lied about just 30 minutes before in the market. We love Scotland!
T. E.
Great shop and great service what more
Could you ask for.Nick managed to order
My LOAKE boots and get them to me
In time for a special occasion.

I bought a pair of Robots online. Stuart and the whole team were responsive and helpful. The shoes shipped out within two business days and arrived ten days later, halfway across the world, in all their glorious beauty. Easy. Done.

Jim on the stick with his mad accent and the owner, I forget his name, but man does he love his boots. I came out with a new pair of Solovair lookin' deadly and all from the original shop.
I have never been to a store before where the staff actually lace up your boots for you.
I. V.
Best shoes around - the real deal. Staff know everything and are super helpful! Bypass the Dr Martens store and head straight here
Thanks for my beautiful green grifters B-)
F. J.
The best gift of our trip. Thank you for myself and Julienne for these amazing boots and also with the help from James for finding this store. We will see you next time we visit in London.

I tried to post this a couple of days ago but it didn't go up. My dad really wanted to give a good review because of what the store meant to him but he isn't really computer savvy and I said I'd do it for him.
My dad came to the store because my grandpa (his dad) bought a pair of Desbury shoes here years ago and they were hardly ever off his feet. He said my grandpa must have bought them around 1970 when they moved to London and then in 1973 when they moved away, they only visited Holts shop one more time in '74 the following year.
Now that my dad and I made the effort to go back to his old stomping grounds, he said he had to get a new pair from the store in honour of my granddad.
He said the store was just how he remembered it as a kid in the 70's and the staff were fantastic with him, telling him all about the history of the place and spending time to be so friendly and welcoming to an old friend of the shop.
He said he apologizes for not being able to remember anyone's name, but he did speak to the owner and a young guy who was speaking German to other customers, but for some reason he said he didn't think he actually was German lol - excuse my dad.
Wonderful he says. Outstanding.
K. F.
The only shop I know that sells Bermuda blue suede leather George Cox.
I bought Strummers in the end, but big Jim on sign duty balling out in his thick Scottish accent about the original Doc shop was what did the job for me.
British and proud, as they say! Traditional, British, civilized.
I will be back.
