Reviews of Jubilee Library
C. S. P.
Love this place, suitable for studying with our without laptop. Good lighting and not really noisy. A lot of power outlet and table.
M. D.
Comfortable place to study or just read. Computers available to use or plug in your own laptop. Handy little coffee shop
B. B.
I used the business centre and it was excellent. The staff were super capable and helpful. They have all sorts of help and support available for startups and established businesses.
Well worth a visit.

Libraries are few and very far between.
'Family friendly' extends its worth way
beyond just books and study. Wonderful
children's section. Popular study areas.
Friendly efficient staff. Small cafe. Toilets
on both floors. Easy access. Gift shop.
Use it or lose it.
F. B.
I love it, my children always have fun there and we borrow books in different topics and languages.

Nice big library to visit to in Central Brighton by the North Laine. 👍👍👍👍👍
Giving it 5 stars and 9.5 out of 10.

It's a great building, spacious and full of light. I was there to support a storytelling session with young children and was very impressed with the children's library and especially the friendly, helpful staff.
A. M. B.
In my opinion the library it's much better organised than it used to be, and even though the reasons for changing are not pleasant, I believe the new way of booking seats and have only 2 hours, it's much better and fair towards everyone. Before I used not to enjoy as much going there because there were never seats and people will stay way too long at their seats, most of the time just chatting very very loudly. I will definitely go back again thank you!

Great place to play minecraft and stream on twitch while not having an apartment. WiFi sucks tho and the staff gave me weird looks
3/5 Philza's
M. T.
Wonderful library one of the best in Brighton calming relaxing people that work there are very polite
A. S.
I visited with a three year old who had a great time.

I didn't want to be too harsh with less than three stars, but you can understand why people put 1.
I don't need to sit in the library to study/work so it's not too much of an issue for me. But this place is noisy. You could never study here with the kids library in the same place.
Because it's just a small quick visit for me it's fine, but if I had to spend any time here on a deadline it couldn't be done.
S. H.
Great space for studying and loads of great books, informal areas for eating and kids to run around gives the library a v friendly vibe
M. B.
A nice place, always quiet - a great selection of books and media to lend. Unfortunately, loses a couple stars as when signing up it isn't mentioned about their drop off services, or the ability to drop a book into any B&H library - which for someone like me, where work hours clash regularly with opening times would have definetely helped me in regards to having to either constantly renew books or pay unnecessary fines.

I use this library a lot especially for revision and work. It is always very busy as the library is so popular. They also have a section for children which means if you are sitting downstairs it might be slightly louder. However, upstairs is more calm especially if wearing headphones. They also have a cafe with coffee which is very helpful. Around GCSE time there is a lot of students there so it is usually more busy. Overall it is a very nice library and would recommend.
K. Y.
Very nice architecture with comfortable and quiet study spaces, though some staff on the second floor are unwilling to help and rude to library users. Also not welcoming for laptop users: most plugs are unavavilable for public use:cost saving perhaps.
M. A.
I am literally so grateful for this library. I only use the study area - to work from essentially - the library has been my desk space! Re. all those people complaining about the noise - it really isn't that bad - and actually this is a resource for everyone. There are hardly any places for parents to take their children anymore - AUSTERITY IS REAL PEOPLE! And so a bit of noise by some kids every now and again is a tiny price to pay I reckon.
The only thing I would say is 10am feels kind of late to be opening.
Otherwise, it's warm, bright, clean and invaluable.
J. H.
I tried using the "quiet" study area as a place to work whilst in-between moving house. It's about as quiet as a fog horn in an echo chamber. There are distractions literally every 5 to 10 minutes, & it seemed like everyone who sat next to me either had a snivelling cold with no tissues to blow their nose into, or some sort of compulsion to make loud heavy breathing noises, huffing, puffing or generally chit-chatting. Basically, not a good place to work if you're trying to concentrate. Remarkably, I found it easier to finish the work I was doing at a pub down the road! Nice, well stocked library though with friendly staff.
B. F.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of books and resources. Lots of places to sit and study.
d.
Great mid-sized library that is suitable for all people. Open space can be distracting as noise travels freely. Not many of the study / reading sections are comfortable for prolonged laptop use. However, on a good day you can bask in the sun while studying near the windows on the second floor (which is quite annoying when looking at a screen). Tesco express is across the street, and benches are right outside for a quick break or bite.
N. B.
Excellent customer service. Very helpful & made me feel very welcome at The Library. Extremely peaceful & tranquill space.
S. H.
It's a really nice library but it is incredibly hard to find a place to study as there are so few seats. In addition, due to the design of the building it is very noisy especially as a lot of the staff don't attempt to control the noise level.
j. s.
Libraries encourage people of all ages to use the facilities. This includes babies. You can't expect babies or young children to be quiet. There are always quieter study areas to be found. This is a good thing.
D. S.
Great service here for accessing internet, photocopying and printing. Very spacious and comfortable. Staff are very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Will allow you to pay by card, if you do not have cash for photocopying
On par with Crawley library
Thanks a million to all staff members of Brighton library jubilee street
Amen

I find it accessible and enjoy going there to change my books frequently.
Students can access computers there too to do their work etc.
C. H.
This is a fantastic facility. Loads of services and extremely inclusive. Wonderful facilities for children. While this appears not to be so popular with people who would prefer their libraries to be silent, it is a great way to instil a lifelong love of books and reading.
P. J.
Very kind staff and a very peaceful place
A. C.
A really lovely local library in a great location. Great childrens section and as you would expect, knowledgable staff. Our daughter loves it there and no doubt this library has a hand in her love of books. We need to support our local services more.
R. B.
Modern design. Good place to spend time
H. M.
My rating : 2.5 stars not 3 - I would give 3-4 if it were not so noisey and more if seating was more generous.
I will go with the long string of people who mock this library as oppose to help...: I think the people who are irronically Anonymous and give 4/5 stars are either mindless or employed towards the library's end... Or jus 'wambled' in there on a sunday afternoon, when "all is well". Use your head as a Google user.
What I think:
Overall though: An elaborately and perhaps decadently designed building with ONLY green in mind... there is no noise reduction and generally you can expect most days to walk in and not have a seat On the other hand, it is very central , has a decent coffee shop and does supply a good number of amenities... Alot of people do use this place to talk and it is noisey... IF the floors weren't so open, some kind of way to combat this could be found I think, other than the management becoming 'acoustic nazis' of course(which I am obviously against)...
Pros: -There is a good coffee shop here, good, decent coffee and large cake - this is a good Plus! :)
-The building is nice to be in and it is possible to study here despite What I will mention ( and what others say)
-Good, free wifi run by 'The Cloud' franchise
-There is a room where it is normally quiet: the reference library. Though seating in there is not always guranteed (less so than the rest), whats more you cannot take bottled drinks in there... I think this section of the library is puzzingly small given it is based in a large town/city.
.
Cons :
- Noisey and lack of sound reduction (The design of the building places the children library (or play group) in a room that has alot of open wall space between the reading area and study areas upstairs I think the Architects were missing a point here, (amazing when you think about how much they are paid...) I think there are often loud events that occur in the cafe downstairs too somedays , which is, as someone has mentioned, something that is in-common with a community centre...
-The IT service only allows 45 mins a day on the library computer network- (or at least last time I used it) for me that is enough time to get 1 page and print it , let alone checking e-mail... My sugggestion to the Library Admins is to make a weekly allowance rather than 45 minutes a day... Apparently the governement wanted to give internet access to all citizens ? This aint it...
- I think people are valid enough to suggest that this library charges for some of its media too... Though you have the Tories to thank for that... I hate politics too, but unfortuantely these things do affect you and me all the same... get used to it and vote them out!
In retrospect, I think it is at least good that they have cds, DVDs and graphic novels... Libraries never used to do this...
-Space usage seems to be poor (the way the bulding was designed), unless you like large open areas of 'AIR'. The design is decadent in my oppinion and It would be interesting to see a mezzanine floor placed in there... It may solve the noise isssue and the seating/ study issues, given there is so little space....
A. A.
Very lovely place, good collection of books for children and a great space to enjoy.. Even have a corner for lunch. Low it there spent close to 4 hours being there with my little one
A. D.
A hidden gem, a beautiful and impressive library space with a well-curated stock of books in a large variety of general and expert subjects. Also has a gift shop, a café, and conference rooms for hire.
J. H.
Unusably slow internet. God help anybody trying to use the library WiFi to further their careers or education
A. C.
Great library and building - has won environmental awards.
G. R.
A fantastic library space, good selection of books and friendly staff. All for free! Simply brilliant.
C. T.
Great new structure but that's about it. The selection of books is poor, you can find most of the classics but if you are looking for something like "Tamerlane and other Poems" - Edgar Allan Poe, you most likely won't find it.
N. _.
They don’t have the books that I need but other then that is nice and also the children area is so noisy I don’t I’m understand why they have it but the study and other stuff is really nice
S. L.
Best place.
Seperate area for kids... And lots of books and DVDs for kids...
Lots of space and variety of books for grown ups too.
And access to computer and free wifi is plus point.
A. M.
Lovely place and very helpful team. Fred, working there, helped me a lot with printing my documents, thank you!
M. K.
Lovely library. Helpful staff.
R. J.
A wonderfully kitted out, modern, and high quality public resource.
People need to realise that they can use earplugs, and do justice to the rating of the library itself rather than complaining about the people using it.
A. A.
Amazing library ! Id recommend you check it out if ur around ! Although i do see what the other bad reviews of the noise , socialising ect is about ...

A. T.
The book Library is quite a big place.
A. H.
Virtually empty and yet you can only be in there for 15 mins. It's not a confined space for goodness sake!

Why it's acceptable to combine a library with a children's play area is beyond me.

(Translated) There is an art cafe called Bright on Fringe between the library and Starbucks.
There is no WiFi, but it's cheap and you may use it instead of Starbucks.
I'm not sure what it is. I feel that it is operated by being attached to the library.
It seems to be an LGBT-promoting cafe. Quiet and good environment without BGM
