To me the name of this place is very accurate as it's the perfect little retreat in Cardiff especially for those who enjoy geek culture. I've been using this place to relax and refuel during Christmas shopping. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food and drink are awesome (I recommend the flash milkshake). Very clean with good bathrooms and have seen staff washing their hands so a definite plus (sounds odd to include that but the amount of places I've seen where staff don't. Even when in the bathroom infront of customers 🙄) They have events and plenty of space for various things. They have some consoles and board games on site but they're cool with you bringing your own board games to play aswell. Overall a super chill nerdy place with good food and great atmosphere. It's also has disability access which I greatly appreciate. And due to it being underground it's nice and quiet so anxiety friendly too.

First visit and I sort of wandered in not knowing what to expect. The staff was super friendly, gave me the run down of what they are all about and had a nice chat about games , and then I enjoyed a nice coffee while browsing some of the games they had on offer. The atmosphere was really relaxed and laid back, and very inviting. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the city center again.

Been a few times and this place is amazing! Super inclusive and doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. Lovely staff and a great range of merchandise / guides / memorabilia. Can't wait to start playing Magic here! Definitely would recommend getting a membership, even if they have sold out of the cards!!

Geek Retreat is a really great place to hang out with friends! All of the staff are really welcoming, there is a good selection of games, comics and video games to use on site, the toilets are always clean and tidy and the food is great! We love to come here with our university society!

We've been a few times for the Pokemon club, and every time we've loved it and so has our little one. The staff are INCREDIBLE, super friendly, welcoming and helpful. It's really inclusive and they do numerous events from ; child/family friendly events, to Autism morning, to LGBQ+ game nights Have plenty of vegan options, and their milkshakes are to die for.

Popped in today to see the dnd section as I'm a new player and the selection was great, as were the staff. So kind and helpful, especially the staff member running the dnd one shot tonight who helped me out and showed me his personal collection so I could see what was in some of the boxes on the shelves. Sat in to watch some of a campaign with some really lovely people and genuinely had the best time despite not having been in the community before. Great coffee too! Will definitely be back ❤

Lovely place! Staff are friendly and a good amount of free games to play. Had some chips and a hot drink, all pretty good! My one complaint would be that they need more signage on the exit, I got a little confused as the doors aren't marked. The cupboard, toilet and exit all look similar and could do with signs to help those who are awful with navigation.

An epic place if you are a geek or even if you just like board games. Lush milk shakes, board games that you can play for free. They even have a games console there and host regular D&D sessions. Very friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
