R. P.While I love this Waterstones, I’ve never found the staff very welcoming. For example, the other day I wanted to purchase a book from the teen section and couldn’t find it. Because it was Christmas, I decided to go upstairs to ask for help to avoid the queue, and the staff member on the till seemed very taken aback that I came upstairs seeking advice. She then told me that there were 31 copies of the book available in the shop, although I had searched the teen section meticulously. She then stated that she would be able to grab me copy as long as the other people waiting behind me didn’t mind. So essentially she guilted me into going back downstairs and searching for the book myself. But I still couldn’t find it and eventually asked another member of staff for assistance. He took one look and saw that the book wasn’t there, so he went into the stockroom and came back with a stack for the display. It was clear that the 31 books were not on the shop floor and that the staff member upstairs didn’t want to help me. So if you ever go upstairs seeking help, be warned the staff may not be very useful.

T. r.Waterstones has always been my favourite shop. It can be found in most cities. It's even more popular for me now that all my favourite male oriented shops.
The staff are excellent. The only gripe is you mostly pay RRP but you can usually find it cheaper on Amazon. So maybe if prices were discounted they'll hopefully survive the current and future financial downturns. Also look at the good quality used book market as added attractions. Plus the Cafe W is excellent.

The staff will always be there to recommend something, each of them walking representatives of the store. There's many chairs and a cafe to relax in, worth spending an hour or two in.

J. C.Waterstones cardiff is a Brilliant bookstore surrounding a hidden gem of a coffeehouse, with beautiful fresh food with stunning handmade drinks, its one of my favourite places recently to find a new book and relax for a while in an otherwise busy city.

D. L.Really helpful staff. Shop has late opening times and thwy allow you to browse but there is plenty of sanitiser gel around. Loads and loads of books. Toilet downstairs and up stairs in cafe. One of the oldest stores in Cardiff. Not changed site since 1990s! Worth a wonder.

Family friendly with a variety of genres for all ages. Children's books are sorted by genre and age which is very helpful, would definitely recommend!
B. M.What can I say about Cardiff Waterstones? Its amazing, a quiet paradise in a busy city centre. It has an amazing window seat where I've sat with my friends for hours. The staff are always lovely and it has a great range of books. Plus the cafes great.

E. F.I would study for my a levels in the cafe for hours, and it is perfect for it. It’s quiet, much more affordable drinks than other high street cafes such as Starbucks so is a perfect spot for students, and when surrounded by book and very good WiFi! It really gets you in the zone.

On the approach to Christmas it is a very busy store so hunting down what you want requires a degree of patience with staff that can help hard to find. There are two floors full of books and a coffee shop tucked away on the first floor.

While I do find that the prices can be very steep especially for the graphic novels and comic books, I am always drawn in by the shop for a browse of their shelves

The first editions on display, luring inquisitive minds into the store are disappointingly not for sale. What is the point of this, other than to boost aesthetic. Yet, the gentleman thought it necessary to note that one cost £500 to buy elsewhere. Would he not like to make this sale himself? I will be going elsewhere on this occasion.

L. S.I love the fact that when there were those Clapham riots in August 2011, every shop was looted except Waterstones. The Cardiff branch has very helpful staff and the cake in the upstairs Caffè is to die for (and I'm not even a fan of cake). I would recommended this branch to anyone. My daughter lives in Bristol but loves the Cardiff Branch.

G. T.It's a bookshop, hurrah! And a damn fine one. Gone are the days of Lears, Lears bargain books, Claude Gill, Dillons etc. We now have this, The Works and WH Smiths. The Works is an OK substitute for Lears bargain books. Smiths is just crappy. Waterstones is flying the flag for bookshops in Cardiff. OK so it can't compete fully with the likes of Amazon et al, but at least you can go and feel the books, check the quality of the bindings and smell the pages. Yes thats right I smell the pages. Have a go! Books smell lush.
