Reviews of Cameratiks
A. Z. H.
I brought my Hasselblad down to the store for servicing on Monday. It was all fixed up on Wednesday, and I received it in the mail this morning (Friday).
The staff was knowledgeable and very pleasant. Cameratiks was recommended to me by another Hasselblad user, and I would definitely recommend them to others as well.

Been here a couple of times to get my gear fixed and the 2nd time it was just a quick fix that was done free of charge there and then. Brilliant customer service and and brilliant place if you ever need your camera equipment looked at I would highly recommend!

Impressive range of services available from developing old films, videos and selling new and vintage camera equipment. Probably one of only a few shops in the whole of UK who are capable of developing 1920-1930s Brownie negatives.
Service is unfortunately never very friendly and they offer very vague lead times. They seem to rely solely on the customer to phone up in order to check if the job is finished or not. Would appreciate if they worked on improving this.

Fabulous wee shop with service point. I've use them for sensor cleaning and camera always come back in mint condition and sensor properly cleared (not just puffed). I do like the fact that when you pick up your gear is packed in clear bag. Recommend them 1000%.

Great little shop, packed with everything you need if you are into photography. Well I say that as a beginner in the field, however, it does look like an Aladdin treasure trove. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. They have second hand items for sale, asides from it providing cheaper prices for a beginner, it appeals to my love of recycling things. They also offer servicing of cameras. I recommend dropping in for a browse. A real find.

The world needs camera shops and specialist shops in general. The prices are reasonable and the staff knowledgeable. Excellent array of stock. It is a proper hobbyists shop.

I got some 35mm film developed and I cannot fault the service they provided. I handed my film rolls into the store and I received my photos in less that a week by email via a WeTransfer file. This was so quick and easy (also very reasonably priced). Would definitely recommend.

Nipped in here today to ask about a squeaky autofocus on one of my lenses. While I was there I spoke to the knowledgeable chap behind the counter who sorted me out with a really nice used lens after buying a new one on amazon that was disappointing to say the least. Will happily be back.

Fabulous wee shop. Knowledgeable staff. Sorted my camera within minutes. Cannot express my gratitude enough.

Excellent vintage camera shop I found a Voigtlander Kontur viewfinder I had been looking for ages.

Used this shop on a few occasions with issues with my Nikon and sigma lenses. Can't fault them in anyway. Fixed the issues in 1 to 2 days and great prices for repairs. A great service that you don't need to send items and wait over a week to get back. Drop off and pick up when ready. Job done 👍

I took a rather old camera along and asked for advice. The team were frank and open about the value of the camera and the costs of service etc. As it's a heirloom of sorts we opted to go for the service even given the low value of the camera. The work was prompt and very well done - even the old leather case has a new lease of life from the work done. Thank you

Bought a S/hand camera seems a good deal years warranty

They helped fix my A7iii with a Metabones Adaptor stuck on the front.
The repair technician was very knowledgeable and patient, he gave me advice on how to repair my camera and it didn't cost anything. I highly recommend this shop for their experience and custom!
K. C.
Super professional, amazing camera selection.
I. F.
Friendly and reliable service. Went in to develop a few rolls of film and was pleased with both the digital and physical images
K. A.
Had a wonderful experience with the technician! He was very concerned by my issue and did his best to fix it!
I also had a great price for chemicals!
I’m very happy with this place

I use this place for most of my film and repair needs - but as said below, wouldn't bother buying any of their second hand lenses unless they're willing to barter a fair bit, or it's a lucky buy!
The staff have more knowledge than anyone else than I've ever met in Edinburgh and are extremely professional. Some have said their repairs are a bit rubbish, but I've had a few sensor cleanings and lens fixes from here which have all been perfect, with a super quick turnaround.
Bit of a treck for me to go to them, but it's totally worth it. Best camera shop in Edinburgh.
H. L.
Great shop for second hand cameras, especially film cameras. Most stuffs are quite old. But the price is really good.
K. K.
I took my camera in yesterday to get the sensor cleaned and although the staff were very formal in there approch, the lady advised that the viewfinder would require cleaning as well, which I was happy to have done.
I was advised that the job would take about an hour which is good. Once I got the camera back and on checking the viewfinder it was as good as new and no dust on the sensor. The price is what I would have expected to pay and overall I am happy with the result and will use them again.

It is a good store, I don't why people give so much complain about here, but my experience is super. I get my Nikkor 85 1.4 ais cleaning and served here, they give me a fair quote, and the staff here is friendly.
I get my lens fixed within 1 week, and I inspected the lens, it is great job!
Maybe others who give negative reviews might have too high expectation but I think it is a good store.

These guys were great when I received a faulty camera through eBay. They checked it over and wrote out an invoice for the damage to be repaired which allowed me to claim back through ebay/paypal. Fantastic service with knowledgable staff. Would recommend and use again when required.
R. S.
Always really helpful and friendly! My favourite shop to pop into and find some fun surprises. Great for analogue photographers too, plenty of interesting film on offer.

I had a pleasant visit at cameratils in morningside, Edinburgh. The lady at the front desk asked for my camera (Nikon D600 not auto-focussing for the last 2 weeks) took it inside the workshop, came back and told me the problem wasnt the lense and requested to try and custom reset the camera settings.
I agreed and within 2 minutes, she was back and told me everything had been settled. She explained me why my D600 was not auto-focussing.
Wait for the surprise! It was free of charge, I wasnt going to pay anything for it. She told me it was on the house. Nice service.
L. H.
Incredibly helpful and respectful staff. They set me up with my first film camera, a Canon FTb. I checked ebay prices, and although theirs was about 15 pounds more than the going rate online, it included a one year warranty. Very worth it to go to this brick and mortar if you're starting out. The small difference in price between Cameratiks and online auctions is more than canceled out by the warranty and helpful service.

Popped in today to see if they could repair my Nikon Digital SLR and was quite prepared for it to be relatively expensive. I was directed upstairs by the sales staff and the friendly technician fixed it there and then with no charge. They could easily have charged me to diagnose the fault or to do a quick fix but didn't, really appreciate it and would definitely use them again in the future.

Got my film developed here and the price was reasonable, though it took a little longer than I anticipated. I found the staff to be a bit unfriendly - felt like they just wanted me to leave as soon as possible. I chose to come here because of proximity to my place, but I might shop around a bit for better service.
T. L.
Over the past couple of years I've had a couple of cameras which were declared not cost effective to repair. Cameratiks did repairs for very reasonable prices. And in one case they rushed the repair through because I was wanting the camera for a holiday.
D. N. A.
While on the expensive side (second hand lenses being a particular rip off) there's no doubting they know their stuff here.
Staff are not particularly friendly but have an odd old fashioned briskness which is somewhat endearing - not even the dog looks you in the eye when you enter.
Camera repairs are carried out upstairs - again these tend to be a bit pricey. I've had my sensor cleaned here twice and on both occasions it was still dirty afterwards, so avoid that.
N. P.
Extremely helpful and attentive customer service. We went in to check if the camera we bought elsewhere was fully functional and without second thought the staff offered their assistance free of charge. Highly recommend!

Excellent service, really helpful when I needed to find out of my lense was broken. Helped me choose a new one.
P. S.
I was looking for someone to fix my Mamiya RB67 and from the first email contact with Camertiks, I found them to be very professional and found there quote was excellent. I sent the camera off and within a day of receiving my Camera, it was sorted and on it way back to me. Final price was pretty much spot on with the quote. They also fixed a few other issues with my Mamiya. I would highly recommend there services and will use them again.
C. W.
Proper camera shop with a large stock of all things photographic. Camera repair services on site to. Best range of photographic film I know of in Edinburgh.
w. c.
Great service and knowledgeable staff but turn around can be slow if parts need to be ordered from marquee supplier
S. B.
Solid film development for an okay price (you probs won’t find it much cheaper anywhere else). The customer service is good and ngl the two old guys that work the counter are adorable. Like my grandpa god rest his soul.
I hope they see this review n r like “wtf hahaha”
T. B.
Put my lens in to get fixed, the price is very reasonable and very quick turn around as well. Parking may be a problem due to the restrictions at the front door.

Excellent service. Only place in town to fix your gear. Also they do (mostly) price match if you want to support a local biz

Total experts. Much prefer having film developed here than a chain. Only place I can find Kodak gold too!
G. K. C.
Never bought anything from the front of the shop, but the repairs team at the back are second to none in Edinburgh. They really know their stuff and have always given me fantastic service at a good price.
A. M.
Never had an issue with this shop, or the Camerabase repairs.
Camerabase have repaired an old HB500el for me. And Cameratiks sold me my Bronica SQ-A which has been my work horse for many years now. Always travels with me.
I continue to do business with them, despite their slightly inflated prices, because I believe in local businesses having a chance.
Also, a great place to have your film sent off for developing.
J. P.
Gent in main shop cool but marginally courteous in a faux-Morningside manner. Short staffed but lady upstairs had an overt charm, foreign to the neighbourhood. Sensor cleaning completed in a day. Not the easiest place to park during the Festival, although there are bays across the road.
m. r.
Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Cleaned up my camera and got sound advice. I'll be back! Highly recommended!
G. B.
Took my camera in for repair and they were great, friendly staff and they kept in touch with me through the process (unfortunately the parts took a while to arrive which was not their fault). Would recommend them for repair work for sure.
E. M.
Bought an old film camera from a charity shop and took it in and they were super helpful and answered all questions I had about It and replaced the battery! Very happy customer! 😋
M. W.
very friendly, small but packed shop, they gave me a year of warranty on a 2nd hand lens, which is pretty amazing.
and the clerk was very understanding with letting me think for way too long about which of 2 lenses to buy.
F. C. W.
I have had my nikon equipment serviced and repaired for a few years by Cameratics and have been very pleased with their work, customer service and charges.

Outstandingly helpful camera repair people, and a great shop full of new and second-hand photo kit and valuable advice. Also a happy nostalgia trip for those who can remember the likes of Brunnings of Holborn. We are lucky to have this in Edinburgh.

Quick, excellent service. Thank you!

I always take my cameras and lenses there for regular service. They are the best looking after my kit.
E. H.
Great service and reasonable prices. Also plenty of vintage lenses to play with for different types of cameras.
D. F.
Well stocked shop.
Knowledgeable helpful staff.
No parking.
M. H.
Need a lens fixed or camera looked at ..? I would go no where else as they are good at their job and take pride in their work with an estimate given with some clear guidance. On street parking.
C. G.
Great for used cameras and lenses but some items are a bit on the expensive side.
R. O.
Got a used 35mm lens for my Nikon FM. Very satisfied with the purchase.
M. F.
Loads of 2nd hand camera gear. Pretty minted.

This store is absolutely amazing, I love the look of the store, the staff are friendly, and it is a must for photography lovers

A treasure trove for a vintage camera fiend like me! Shelves full of classic Voigtländers, Zeiss Ikons, Leicas and so forth – and a good selection of film to boot. I left with a near pristine Lubitel and rolls of Fomapan. The visit was worth the walk!
M. K.
Bought both a camera and a lens from here on different occasions and serves ice was great both times
S. R.
Nothing bad to say. Very knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices for quality used equipment.
D. K.
Good at what they do. Staff can appear rude but think thats more a Morningide/Edinburgh thing than them actually being rude people...

(Translated) It is a very picturesque place. The dependents take their time. Do not go in a hurry. But they got me out of trouble because I left the battery charger at home and had no way of taking pictures. I bought a charger and a battery at a great price.
(Original)
