Reviews of Scottish Poetry Library

A little hidden gem near the palace. Nice and quiet, modern yet cozy, the exterior private patio will have you at hello.

One of the great libraries of its kind I have ever visitéd. Its is a treasure in a sense. I visited this library several times and I am a member of the library too. The variety of poetry books are collected from all over the world and I found thousand of poets' poetry here. the library is like a magnet and will make you spell bound. I have listened all the songs of Robert Burns from their audio collection. The helpful staff will help you according to your requirement. You never become disappointed and always enjoy the library as its very rich in its collection. If you visit Edinburgh please don't forget to visit this holy place of poetry.

I had the pleasure of visiting here for the first time during the Fringe, which is shocking being a resident and literature graduate. I was impressed by the interior - a nice, homely feel to it with a degree of class in the beautiful wooden designs. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was nice to see the poetry and stories from Edinburgh children on display - it shows they care about the community. Coffee and tea was a bit expensive, but it doesn't detract from what the library has to offer.

Charming small library just off the Royal Mile. Impressive collection and a nice shop.

Brilliant resource for the city, set in fantastic architecture. The mini-amphitheatre for outdoor readings is a great idea. The children's poetry area is well stocked. The use of the original historic walls in the design makes the building really work architecturally: bridging from the historic architecture to the modern.

Really cozy and awesome place . Iots of books both for children and adults . And records too.

Do you like poetry? Even a little bit? Then you should be heading down here. A beautiful, bright space crammed with books, each one a gateway into a world of words. The staff are all friendly and more than happy to help you find what you need, and it's a wonderfully tranquil place to sit and read.
There are regularly events held here, whether poetry readings, social gatherings, or workshops - you can find out what's happening on their website. The network of people who come to such events are a delight in themselves, being writers or just fans of the written word.
If you do pop in you can also see some of the famous paper sculptures that have been anonymously left with various institutions around Edinburgh over the last few years!

Housed in a modern building off Canongate the Scottish Poetry Library offers any literature nut a quiet place to read poems of any genre and author imaginable. As a dedicated epicentre of all things poetic this place gives off an intense but welcoming air and puts on brilliant events and readings, often with free wine and nibbles! Well worth a visit.

First poetry library I've ever visited, but it is fantastic! Great events, atmosphere, and people! And best of all, the collection is giant!

The SPL is one of Scotland's great cultural resources. The range of works for loan and reference is hugely impressive, the staff are friendly and helpful and the borrowing arrangements are exceptionally convenient; the building itself a stimulating piece of architecture.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Edinburgh. I might have to stop going there though because I can never resist their shop and I always leave with at least a couple of new pamphlets or collections...

Very impressed with the building, the decor, the cosy atmosphere and, of course, the collection!

(Translated) I had an unforgettable experience in this place. Being a poet I have had a very friendly encounter with Scottish poets where we read our poems and exchanged friendship and views.

Ho avuto una esperienza indimenticabile in questo posto. Essendo una poetessa ho avuto un incontro molto cordiale con i poeti scozzesi dove abbiamo letto le nostre poesie e abbiamo scambiato l'amicizia e opinioni.
