Reviews of Travelling Man
I took Leo my 8y old Pokémon/Animé fan to Travelling Man as a treat after a hospital visit last Thursday.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Mike (I think 😳🙈) and his welcoming smile, he told us if we needed anything to just ask.
The store isn't huge, but is actually very well stocked with a good selection of Animé & Manga books, with a few quirky bits 'n' bats in between. My little boy loved it as there were Pokémon displays dotted around and wasted no time asking Mike if he had some Poké cards. Unfortunately, they only stocked Fusion Strike cards (which was a bit disappointing, especially as they were advertising others on the display boards) and some crazy expensive collector packs. Leo delved into packs and started pulling out every single one (🙉) so he could see what the featured Pokémon were. I told him to stop and apologised but Mike was great saying it was no problem and helped him get the whole lot out (even though Leo already had each character in us hands)☺. He asked Leo about his favourites and they had long discussions until Leo finally decided which ones he wanted. After the cards I asked where the Pokémon books were which he quickly showed us. We had a look around and noticed a few other books related to the TV shows we'd watched Like RWBY and Shaman King. In between, Leo kept going back to talk to Mike, who genuinely seemed happy to talk to him, whereas many would have deemed him a nuisance with all his questions.
We asked if the display cards were available to reserve when they were taken down so Leo could have them on his wall. Mike wasn't sure telling us he was new to the store, but would find out by the next time we came in, or for us to call.
Even though they didn't really have much Poké related things for kids, all in all the visit was a success and due to Mike's friendly and patient manor, we will definitely call again when we visit Leeds.
(That night my son told me we had to go back to see his friend Mike again the next day 🥰).
Thank you Mike!
UPDATE
We revisited the Travelling Man today, I wasn't sure whether we would be allowed in as we had 'Bear' our dog with us. But to my surprise, we were welcomed in. Now, when I say my dog was allowed in, it would be more accurate to describe him as a small donkey! He's a huge English Mastiff 'pup' and weighs 70+kgs!!
Obviously, mastiffs drool, but luckily, I had cleaned Bear up prior to going in. He was very well behaved, but his size made things a little awkward for manoeuvring around, (we just wanted to check out their Pokémon section, which I have to say was well stocked today! They have a good deal on single packs - any six for £20!! ) especially when he decided to lay in the middle of the floor and customers couldn't get to the till! 🙈
Anyway, we bought our cards, joined the loyalty programme (that we had no idea existed prior to today), and thanked the staff for allowing Bear in the store!
Definitely worth a visit for any Animé fans!
The best part of Travelling Man is the staff. All of them have been friendly and very helpful. Their recommendations have never failed to impress ( especially when choosing gifts). If they don't have something in store they will try to order in if possible.
A friend of mine once mentioned they were looking for a book they didn't have while walking through the store which they apparently overheard and ordered it in. Was a great surprise to him to find it a week later!
A clean, bright, uncluttered shop, with ample room to browse a wide variety of games in one half, and books and comics in the other half.
Games range from easy entry family games, that take a short time, through to seriously long and challenging boardgames for the experienced.
There is also a role-playing games section, with miniatures to support them.
The books include one wall of manga, another wall of indie publishers, and one wall of Marvel/DC mainstream.
A table in the middle showcases local self-publishers and small press titles, and there is a section for material of relevance to LGBTQ readers.
This is a shop where I can browse one half, while my daughter checks the other, and we both find something interesting every time.
Great shop with a fantastic range of board games (most popular ones plus other good ones brilliantly listed A-Z!) along with a good range of comics.
Love it they have a wide selection of board games, comics, manga, figurines and cards. They have evening events as well like game night, magic gathering and dungeons and dragons so plenty of variety and choices to communicate and make friends or even just socialise.
An amazing store where you can find manga of all sorts
Lots of games so great for a look around. Much more expensive than most other board games shops, so I'd avoid actually buying anything from here!
Huge range of board games and comics. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Really great selection of products with some pleasant surprises, always worth a visit.
Super-helpful staff, I inquired about comics for my kid sister and member of staff gave me several suggestions and helped find them. Didn't charge me full price on back issues unlike another comic store.
