Reviews of Idea Store Whitechapel

Great library, so many floors and books and comics 😍
The staff are quite nice too, you're also allowed to eat at this library on the first and second floor as long as it's cold food
Life savers 🙌
There are also lots of courses happening for the community, COVID TESTING available to take and a lot of friendly people to help. A lot of history of the borough is visible on the walls and displays, very interesting and nice to see.

There are many books in the Bengali collection and that is the happiest thing 💕I like the cafe with the excellent view!
A. Z.
Looks like a good public library, but there's no cafe anymore

It's good there is not crowded but unfortunately, the printer has problem, I hope in future to improving, I do not want to hear the printer is out of service.

You don't need any card to enter. The staff is really nice and helpful. The library is very big and they have several books. Very quiet place to study or read a book. I recommend

Me & the kids love it here can always find something to keep the kids busy and myself too.

I come here regularly to study and for this it's perfect. There are many places to sit with power sockets for laptops and generally it's quiet but not always.
I've noticed the toilets are cleaner than they used to be and the main library areas are tidy, there's chilled water and cups if you need a drink.
The few times I've needed to ask the staff something they have been helpful, I will continue to come here and appreciate a free local resource like this.

Excellent launch of BANGLA installation this evening 2nd September 2021

Good community space to study and work and is very popular. It's not a silent library so there can sometimes be be a little bit of noise but people are generally respectful that others are working independently (and patrolling security will deal with more disruptive visitors). Cafe on the top floor offers reasonably priced coffee and food. Overall a great library space.

I came to this library as I am new to the area and wanted to check out the facilities. The librarian that helped me was so friendly and patient! She made the process smooth sailing and made me feel very welcome. One of the best customer service experiences I have had.

Great knowledge from librarian, a fair selection of books.

Love this place. Ideal to work or study. There was a bar on the last floor but it seems close from months. Hopefully they will open it again cause the staff were really friendly. The idea car is open is minutes giù just need to bring your Id and proof of residence. I got my idea card and I use it on the library app to read book and audio books so I'm really pleased with the service.

It is nice place to study or work. There is lots of tables-you can bring your stuff and work or there is some computer to use. Just on the exam terms is hard to find place to sit. Otherwise, stuff are friendly and design is modern. And the big difference compare to other libraries- you can drink or eat. That's the great advantage because in some places you even can not drink water.

Staff are always helpful. Safe atmosphere, (alert, unobtrusive security,) to read and relax in. Thank you Whitechapel.

Fantastic library providing courses, activities for families, etc. The café upstairs offers great views and sweet and savoury food at popular prices.

Great place to sit and focus on your work. Great location near Whitechapel and QueenMary University. Free wifi and spaces. Nice staffs too 👍👍

The best public library I found In 9 years, that I live in London, everything is perfect. Thank you very much for existing.

Pretty decent library. Decent staff

I use the library pretty regularly, including reserving books online. This gives you access to many more books. I've also registered for the Zinio online magazine service which is really good.
I think it's a really good attempt to blend a traditional library with a community facility. There is a book group, the cafe and many places to study. I have found staff to be very helpful.
I agree that it is used as a social space and that can be annoying if you are trying to work, but ask a member of staff if someone is being noisy, if you can't face doing it yourself? Shared responsibility, I'd say!
Well done Tower Hamlets for investing in a place like this.

I love this place - a really nice place to work or browse books. The cafe on the top floor has an amazing view and is a great place to try and collect ones thoughts. An interesting cross section of locals attend the library, making it a nice environment to hang about in. A gem that's open to everyone.

Such a great initiative for the borough. I was so happy to find this place, the library itself is great - super modern, spacious, good facilities for studying/working. But the best part are the courses - I'm currently doing a dance course and it has been brilliant, come September I think I will be here every night for something - dance, cooking, languages, crafts, business, you name it. Thanks for existing, idea store!

I totally love this place because there are lots of good books to read. I enjoy playing on the computers with my cousins, friends and family. I like going there when the summer book reading challenges are on. I couldn't have thought about any where else to go and have fun in. Plus Whitechapel it a very populated so lots of people go there anyways.

Great place with a wide range of books and comics to borrow for free, up to 12 at the same time! You can manage/renew it online or in store.
Convenient opening times and helpful staff.
Only downside : if you reserve books, sometimes the system fails to tell you when they are ready.

Great local library with a community centre vibe. Dedicated children's area. Lots of study space at the weekend. No it's not your typical 'ssh' library where dropping a pen gets you an evil glare, but maybe that's the future, so they can appeal to all and most importantly stay open!
K. W.
Beautiful library, loads of books. Be warned that reservations can take ages and fines are sharp (one week late is £3.60 per book). However, there is a large area for quiet contemplation and study which is lovely and peaceful
M. T.
IdeaStore is a really good service for the Borough. It is not only a library. It has a huge amount of courses on anything you might like to learn (from languages to reiki, from sewing to music, from dancing to painting, etc).
It is open everyday, ideal for weekend studying. Furthermore the bar at top level is cosy and reasonably priced.
J. C.
As with a lot of libraries it has a few resident 'characters' and the toilets leave a lot to be desired. However it does offer an excellent collection of books, has reliable fast wifi and pleasant helpful staff.

Its a good size for the kids section

A great place to sit and read or study in a nice environment. They also provide lots of activities for families and children and courses for adults. It'd be nicer if they had a wider selection of books though...

I can only speak of my own experience, but I visit this particular idea store perhaps once every two weeks for quiet study. It's great, plenty of space when I go and no ones noisy at all. You can even isolate yourself in one of the learning labs provided it has not been booked for a session. The malaysian cafe on the 4th floor is adequate with a lovely view of the distant city skyline. If you dont fancy that kind of thing, there's a Sainsburys literally just round the corner, easy to get to and perfect for a quick smoke break. Can't say much about the books since I've never needed to loan any from here. All in all, its good.

There are a lot of activities going on here. The interior design is modern, and the atmosphere is welcoming. There are a lot of places on he various floors: tables to sit down and study, sofas to read and relax, and a nice bar on the top floor serving good food.
And all this at really economic prices, if not for free!
P. C.
Books collection is not great however overall facilities i.e. reading area/tables even rooms, computing facilities, dedicated kids library, restaurant, various adult courses etc. could be a place for everybody.
It was my regular study place before exams when I was in this area.
M. K.
Nice and clean (idea store).
Cycled it here, so for the cyclists, the nearest and safest place to lock your bike will be directly on the side of the idea store.
J. S.
tried everything i possibly could to renew books ,sadly i dont have a degree in technology so guess i will be billed for late return ,incidentally would it be too much to ask for a member of staff to pick up phone being as your standing next to it chatting
O. I.
Excellent place for read and books.
A. A.
Good library, however the facilities could be improved

Great customer experience and the ideastores have come a long way!
Arif was great in his customer care, informing me of the app as well as additional magazine
T. C.
Large open space good be more table places to study and I don't like the floors they remind me of a restaurant kitchen
R. A.
This os a 3 floor library in a modern glass building. The staff are nice and friendly so this ks one of my fave librarys.
M. R.
Not open during the lockdown but they provide a very good service to the community.
M. M.
Excellent service. I requested a book to be ordered in and the staff were helpful and ordered the book I wanted.
