Went in today because my film camera stopped working. I am not sure what his name was but the guy at the front desk was so lovely and fixed it for me as it was a minor fault. He also explained why the flash on my other camera wasn't working and has reasonably priced film rolls. I would really recommend this store to everyone! :)

Been here a few times. Most significantly when I’d recently taken the plunge and had moved up from a cropped sensor to full frame SLR. Had lenses to sell and needed good advice about multiple flash equipment. All staff are excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. Great shop with a wide range of photographic equipment suiting every budget. There is always a good selection of second-hand cameras for the nostalgic. The staff are friendly and helpful and every time we visit we have been made very welcome. On one occasion the staff boosted a flat camera battery for one of our course participants while we went for a coffee. The shop is conveniently located and is a short walk from Charing Cross Rail Station. Excellent service with knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Basically this is the best place to go for used camera equipment in London. They also sell new equipment too. The staff are very knowledgeable and are happy to take their time listening to what you want and showing you all the options available. It's a fairly small shop in terms of space but they pack in alot of stock.

I had an excellent experience at the London Camera Exchange. I came in with what I thought was a broken camera.... The sales assistant was so helpful and took the time to show me how to change the settings on my camera which fixed my problem entirely. He listened, was patient and so very helpful. I have not had that much of a positive experience in any shop for a very long time. This was my first time in the London Camera Exchange. All that I can say is that they have mastered customer services. If I am ever in need of anything camera related, the London Camera Exchange will be my first stop!! Have bought from many other LCE shops before but not the Strand. The staff are extremely knowledgable. They know cameras and they won't sell you something you really wont need. It pays to go into a store and talk to experts, not only do they talk sense you actually get to try the kit out before purchase - When have Mail Order Conglomerates ever been able to do that? There aren't many decent camera shops left but, thankfully, LCE seem to be flourishing and long may that continue.

I had trouble trying to find a voightlander 17.5mm lens. They were either overpriced or there delivery date was indefinite or they couldn't get it. And some of these shops were well known. I rang the camera exchange and spoke to a lovely woman named Tracy. She was very polite and helpfull. She took £100 deposit off me and ordered the lens. The best camera shop in London. Nowhere else I've been has anywhere near their level of knowledge and customer service. All the staff in the shop are genuinely passionate about cameras and they can answer pretty much any question you throw at them, unlike the average member of staff in Jessops, who will misinterpret your question and guide you towards whatever crap they get paid more to sell. I recommend checking in often, as most of their range is second hand and they often get new stuff in.

Small little camera store that is an Aladdin's cave of sorts. Hidden away on the strand from the outside, but packing in a load of camera goodness on the inside. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great selection of second hand gear and lenses as well as their new stock. Also accepts part exchange/trade in's of your old gear.

Having shopped here since the dawn of the dinosaurs, (not quite true but at fifty it feels that way) and having travelled a lot I just want to say that LCE Strand branch is the best camera shop in Europe, service is friendly and the knowledge base is through the roof, the second hand section is always a magical mystery tour, but the equipment is top notch and guaranteed. Also if LCE can't get it ordered nobody can. Luv the place and I have always enjoyed shopping there. You can trust their advice and you can rely on their products, which is no small thing. London Camera Exchange is a top-ranking place for second hand cameras and other photographic equipment in London. It's far too small really. There are other branches outside London that are comfortably triple the size of this little store. Nevertheless, the display cabinets at the back are packed with a huge variety of cameras, though you'll have to dance around other camera enthusiasts and staff members to get a good look at them. The staff are mostly knowledgeable - especially for the old film stuff. There's a decent range of new camera stock as well, and you can get good bundle deals if you buy a few things at once. I once got a memory card half price because I also bought a stack of 35mm film. If you're a keen photographer or vintage camera enthusiast then this is a must-visit. The prices aren't particularly competitive - some of the modern second hand stuff is only slightly cheaper than you can get new versions online or elsewhere, but again you can barter a little bit if you're really keen. I would rather visit a store twice the size further away from the centre of the city, but this will do nicely if you're near Covent Garden and don't want to traipse to either Aperture stores or CameraWorld, or the other camera shops up Tottenham Court Road. If you're looking for vintage or bargain camera accessories, they have some bargain boxes here in which you can find some proper gems. A couple of times I've found some really nice 'aged' leather camera holsters which go really well with some of my old cameras, and some good quality second hand black and white filters.

My experience is related to second hand equipment. Picked up some nice Olympus and Tamron Adaptall lenses in person. Rating is spot on, a 4* lens hardly shows signs of use, 3* is ok lens with sign of wear. Pricing is correct, so do not expect an awful lot of discount. Not the place for bargain hunters taking risks instead LCE is a place for lenses you want to use. For best experience on older second hand lenses you may ask for the senior staff like manager Trevor who is young enough to have gained hand-on experience with the analogue equipment back then.

If you want excellent service and people who are passionate and knowledgeable about their products, then go to 98 The Strand. I had left a vital piece of equipment behind for nighttime photography. Turned out, there was something vastly superior in the form of the bendy tripod. They also cleaned my dirty lens and showed me that mirrorless is the future. I had a fantastic evening with my new bendy tripod watching the moving tribute of remembrance at The Tower of London. When I am ready (haha have the funds) I will return for a mirrorless camera. Customer service is the market differentiator, but to London Camera Exchange its what they have always done.
