Reviews of Pancras Square Library
A. B.
This is the kind of library you would love if it was empty every time you came. It's in the perfect location and the design is great but not practical. It's often pretty noisy and there isn't always a lot of space if you want to come here and work? The open plan design is aesthetic but as loads use it as a hangout it fails in terms of being somewhere quiet to come and study.

I do like this library as beyond the computers it got desks where you can study. The staff are polite and very professional! Well done! Thanks!

Excelente library with good tables for work and study. A little noisy but ok.

This place has everything you need. You can make free calls to council for any purpose, you can meet friends or have meetings with anyone. You can relax with tea or coffee. You can enjoy reading. You can surf your laptop and do your business. They run various workshops too. Ideal place for children and parents too

Big, new, and clean. Wifi reliable and easy to access (no need to register with the library). Benches & tables with plugs on the floor for those who want to study. Overall, I like it very much. Toilets are clean, adults are generally not too noisy (outside exam periods), and security officers are usually walking around. The main issue with the library is that it has been designed as an open space and the kids can be pretty loud at times.

This is a decent place to work, but you MUST bring earplugs. There are always some screaming children downstairs and the noise bounces through the whole open plan building (really always - if one does not scream another will). Positives: it doesn't get too busy and there are free wifi and quite comfortable desk chairs, and it is reasonably clean. At some tables there are ridiculously uncomfortable benches though which they do not allow you to move.

pleasant and helpful staff,
who have to cope with a building designed by trendy architects who presumably have hardly ever actually used a library, hence one end of the top floor (adult library) is left open to create an atrium two floors high. This means that (i) the considerable noise from the cafe/childrens' area on the floor below rises up to the adult library, and (ii) the library floor area is perhaps 80% of what it would be without the unnecessary atrium

NIce lay out and the librarians have been very helpful at times. However the security guards make me feel uncomfortable. I don't wanna be stared at as I'm looking at books and I'm not gonna steal anything. I know they're just doing their job but....

You don't have to be a member to use the pool. It's for everyone, man! Hurray.
The pool is lovely - nice and new; enjoy it while it's still shining, spanking new. Also, there is a sauna and little fountain features in the baby pool area.
The library upstairs is nice, with a smart new café - not many books but lots of computers and space to study.
The council have tried their hardest to hide it away - but we found it, eventually.

You can spend hours in there - food and more than enough seats for everyone and very clean toilets. There is a large children's area with a very good choice of children's books and a lot of them, a large soft cushioned area big enough for children of all ages and there is nearly always at least one or two families there to socialise with.

First time here! Lovely views for a library. Open space.

A bright, clean and modern Camden library at Kings Cross, St Pancras square. Easy to find because of the huge CAMDEN on the corner outside. Not at all suitable for quiet work due to noise levels which amazingly the library and security staff ignore, even in the areas marked 'quiet area'! Has free WiFi, power points and PC's to use. Open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm Sunday.

I agree with almost all of the comments made by the 11 previous reviewers - both good and bad.
The one comment that I strongly disagree with is that St Pancras Library is a poor excuse for a public library.
Far from it, this is one of best public libraries in London; notwithstanding the smelly, cantankerous, crumblies and crusties that seem to have taken up permanent residence at some of the computer terminals and who are to found there, day in day out, 7 days a week.
What most people don't realize is that St Pancras Library, which is open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday, is the de facto Day Centre for many of the roofless homeless, insecurely housed bed-and-breakfasters, and street sleepers that live or reside in Camden, especially King's Cross; and who have neither been housed nor helped by Camden Council's shambolic Housing Options Team; the members of which appear to be, at best, indifferent to and, at worst, dismissive of and/or hostile to the plight of homeless rough sleepers in Camden.
These hapless homeless hordes arrive promptly at 8am, sometimes long before since the waiting area on the first floor (confusingly referred to as floor 0 on the buttons in the lift) is open from 6.30am; and stay until they are turfed out at 8pm by the library staff and security guards.
But if it wasn't for this library, with its extended opening hours, many more homeless people would be spending their waking hours aimlessly walking the streets of Camden or, worse, sitting on the streets of Camden and getting into all kinds of trouble with the Police as a result.
St Pancras library provides them with shelter; safety; warmth; water (free tap water from the Cafe on Floor 0: Cafe Boutique, see my Google Review of this coffee bar under the search term 'Talkington Bates'); free, day-long, access to the internet for registered members (library membership is open to homeless people who can provide a letter of introduction from a Day Centre, GP, or similar reputable source); internet jobsearch facilities; a means of improving their literacy and numeracy skills; and an antidote to the social isolation and marginalization that so often accompanies homelessness - particularly street homelessness.
The reason so many of the cantankerous crusties that frequent St Pancras smell bad is because they do not have regular access, or in some instances any access, to showers or laundry facilities.
In the case of the latter, they might not even have the wherewithal to pay for laundering their clothes at a commercial launderette.
Anyone who was unable to bathe or shower regularly and had to wear the same dirty clothes week after wearisome week would pong after a while.
The one thing that stands out a mile is that many of these homeless people appear to have mental health issues and often act in a bizarre and alarming manner. Hence the mumbling monologues directed at no one in particular; the perceived general irascibility amongst the older generation which erupts from time to time into loud slanging matches and even, on the odd occasion, fisticuffs between sparring septugenarians.
There is hardly ever a dull moment at St Pancras library.
In some ways it is a microcosm of the best and worst aspects of current British Society: many of the library spaces are occupied by non-nationals who have come from Eastern Europe, ostensibly to look for work; but who appear to be monopolizing the IT facilities and seating provided for reading and studying; watching movies in their mother tongue and, alternately, snoozing all day long!
I suspect that this particular aspect may change over the coming months and years; particularly after the upcoming referendum on Britain's continuing membership of the EU; and the next General Election.
Whatever the outcome of these two plebiscites there always has been, and probably always will be, smelly crumblies and weirdos, young and old, in public libraries.
Who knows, there may be a future Joe Orton (Look back in Anger) amongst that lot!

There are not many books here and many of them are misfiled so you can't find the ones that are supposed to be there. However staff are very helpful and always willing to help. Also, like Holborn library, this one is used by homeless people who need shelter and therefore you are highly likely to encounter people sleeping in here who may not have good personal hygiene. Very unfortunate.

Nice library, clean and not busy early Saturday morning. I agree that the architecture is not that well suited, the space doesn't feel like you would expect a library to.

After internet failed at the British Library, we came to work here. It turned out to be a great idea; great internet connection, comfortable working spaces and clean facilities. Last but not least, plenty of room to work

I love this library, used to attend photography workshops here, a pity they don't do it anymore

A glorious library filled with friendly people. One of the best places to get some work done when in London.

The library is no longer on Argyle Street, but is now at:
5 Pancras Square
London
N1C 4AG
It's a good library.
e.
You can use the computer, printer and tables if you want to study.

Decent library, looks nice. But could do better with the noise levels!

I came here to print some of documents. Paying for 20 pennies for one page and little pounds for using the computer.
P. B.
It was closed. Thank you
