Reviews of The Gate Library

Staff are v. polite, has toilets if you must go. Good internet, books and nice atmosphere. Not the largest library in the world, so no overcrowding pls. Especially in these COVID times. :-)

Lovely library, with helpful staff and lots of information about what's going on in your local area! Close to Westfield Stratford mall.

Where the study area was situated wasn't quite ideal considering it's also a cafe.

More spacious than green Street and stratford library. It can however get quite noisy and is used by homeless people to sit during the day so the smell can be unpleasant (not being disrespectful here, but I think the council should help these people so that they do not need to use the library as a shelter at daytime).
Seating can be taken sometimes, especially during table tennis days.
Staff are friendly and are always willing to help.

I have used this library for over 3 years, its quite small but cosy. I like how it has a small open area, with the cafe. However, today I went there for the first time when the cafe was actually opened, and was deeply upset to see the lack of care that the employee behind the bar had. The employee was clearly on his phone the whole time with headphones in, it is clear that it wasn't busy - but still found it completely disrespectful, It made me feel uncomfortable to go up and order anything, as it was almost like no one was even there.
Im giving a 4/5 for the library not the cafe

It's great that there's a library here. Given that it's in deprived poverty stricken London, some staff could do with retraining - instead of scolding young kids who had decided to hang out in the library, how about engaging with them to kick start a love of literature?! The cafe also seems to be a half hearted attempt to try and be a bit more hip and draw in more punters, but a bit moot until they start serving freshly brewed coffee.

A library like no other! I love reading books and that's the main reason why The Gate Library is one of my favorite places in Forest Gate. It's nicely located and easily accesible. The staff is friendly and always eager to help. The shelves are well arranged so it's quite easy to find what you're looking for.
If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy a good book, this is the right one.

I feel like the kids make too much noise. It's hard to get anything done with all that ruckus. They should be seated somewhere else in the library. I find it hard to focus and do work on the computers with the constant shouting of the kids

This is an excellent library. On Tuesday mornings they have a one hour story telling session. Excellent for children of all ages and adults
