Reviews of Waterstones
S. W.
My first time visit to this branch of Waterstones was today I have visited several other branches of the shop but I was taken aback by the sheer size of the place , whilst the ground floor seems large , there are 2 more floors which seem even larger than the ground floor. There are sections like children's books and science fiction + fantasy, which have a whole room dedicated to them , it is easy to spend a few hours browsing, well worth a look
T.
Lovely and cozy massive book store! The largest of its kind in the city Centre, and for a good reason. You'll be able to find any kind of books here, with entire shelves and rooms dedicated to all kinds of categories. From Visual novels and fiction to 'alternative history and magic' (??), there is a section here for everyone (including some extensive manga collection). There are board games, plushies, Harry Potter merch (of course), and other deals in the ground floor, a section dedicated to children upstairs, and one dedicated to science, medicine, etc. further above. Definitely a place to check out in a windy, cold and rainy day in the city for a short break to find your next favorite book.
L. P.
Love it here :) huge library vibes and cafe on top floor, big fantasy section and manga section, well laid out :)
B. C.
This was my first visit to this venue and it did not disappoint. I attended a Halloween Night lecture on Serial Killers. Great room, great staff, nice wine. Just lovely
D. M.
Visited especially for book signing. Couldnt purchase new skullduggery book there, which was a shame. But got another book signed. Lovely shop , great experience for the kids.
A. B.
Probably the best bookshop in Manchester. Staff are always friendly and compliment my book choices, must be my execellent taste 💅🏻
Three floors with a good mix of everything you could want and a cafe on the top floor. They are really helpful ordering things in for me
H. N. H.
It's Waterstones... the best bookshop in Manchester without a shadow of doubt. We were looking for a specific recipe book for a Mothers Day present and I was amazed how many cookery books there are. We also bought the MD cards from a great selection on sale. Top marks for a class book shop.
R. R.
Stunning bookshop and a must visit for Manchester. The outside looks unassuming but with many floors and sections of books it i s a readers delight. Plenty of signed copies of books if you are searching for your favourite book in a signed copy
K. K.
Lovely big book shop, plenty of space to have a read if you want to. We didn't try the cafe but it looked cosy and pleasant. Very friendly staff in the Children's section.
O. M.
It's always overwhelming going into Waterstones. You could spend the entire day getting lost in endless pages of 1000's of books. This particular shop is brilliant. Great staff, that know their books.
N. T.
A great branch of Waterstones right in the heart of Manchester, spread over three floors with a plethora of different genres of books, covering a range of different themes, from architecture to gardening to foreign language to law. Staff are always friendly and the store is easy to navigate
h. a.
Really helpful customer service. Thank you. Their gifts' range is massive as well!
R. K.
Deansgate branch: we couldn't find what we we're looking for. A really helpful young man, looked up the book and then located a copy for us. All whilst being polite, charming and very helpful.
J. G.
Easily the best book shop in the North. So much bigger on the inside than you would imagine. Excellent range and a cafe. Fantastic
G. J.
Great selection of books with a nice cafe on the top floor which is served by a lift. The food is enjoyable.
L. V.
I love books and there lots. It's like a library, but not free. Great choice of maps.
B. H.
Amazing store in a stunning building, have every book imaginable and plenty of places to sit and read including the café
H. F.
Coffee shop was good and the had gluten free cake (nice), but the toilets weren't so nice.
k. b.
Love it here, good selection of books, always leaving with at least one cookbook 😁
j. c.
Amazing store. Good use of space, and great range. Especially in the areas I was looking at - poetry and philosophy.
Staff member that served me was very helpful and friendly. A must shop bookshop.
H. G.
Expansive book store and coffee shop :). Three floors, well staffed and we'll resourced. My daughter loves coming here for books and loves to read upstairs with a cookie and some milk
N. I.
Lots of books, a bit like book heaven especially where I come from this place looks to have most things including stationery and board games as well. The next I go I will definitely buy something from here.
A. H.
Lovely place to be to quench your curiosity. The place where you see so many people trying to fulfil what their mind desire. Books are classified and shelved appropriately. The shop is located in the heart of Manchester. Pity, not enough staff to assist eager shoppers.
V. I. M.
All your need for book reading and learning books in Manchester
I. B.
It's a Waterstones! Staff are friendly, beer is good (and cheap) and it serves till late. It always seems a bit understaffed - there's often plates on tables that need clearing and the tables themselves often need a good wipe.
K. H.
This is a great Waterstones with plenty of choice. It is lovely to be able to go to a bookshop instead of choosing something online. An immersive experience.
A. J.
Endless selection of books, staff are really nice and helpful, good social distending, everyone wearing mask.
S. S.
The staff are really freindly and will go above to help you. I love sitting in the cafe and reading my new books. One of my favourite Waterstones
T. H.
Great place to see new reads but could do with some places through out the floors to sit and relax not just the cafe but to see if a book is appealing enough to buy.
R. F.
Vast amount of books to be fond on several floors. You can loose hours in there.Midweek mid~afternoon I find best, not too busy.
A. X.
Really great bookstore, love the space and various levels, but their technology section is very small, better off looking in the arndale store
D. L.
Great shop item massive selection of books and board games to choose from. Cafe is also pleasant.
M. Y.
A very beautiful bookshop. The sitting areas + cafe inside make me want to recommend it even more!!
S. C.
Needs more seats!!!
Lovely shop, has a library vibe, staff are fabulous, properly nice and seem to know every book ever!!
C. H.
For me, i think Waterstones is by far the best bookshop in England. I recently went to New York and went to Barnes & Noble and equally enjoyed the book stores to then later find out that they are owned by the same company.
Me personally i am an avid cook and i think Waterstones has the best cookbook selection of anywhere i can think of apart from maybe Amazon, i also love that Waterstones will update you in emails of special edition cookbooks which include different covers or signed recipe books from the chefs.
Another section of Waterstones i love is the range of Childrens book they have, from Dr Seuss to Harry Potter it is an absolutely fabulous range. Especially the Harry Potter range, it has pretty much every book available. The childrens classics aswell is amazing aswell.
I also when i come into Waterstones go to the graphic novel section as for a long time and the selection here is always bang on with Marvel & DC comics from Batman to Spiderman, they have so many. Equally for Manga aswell.
The cafe is a relaxing and chilled out place to grab a coffee and cake and read your new book.
Finally a big shotout to thr staff here, they are always amazing and very helpful, also there recommendations are top notch.
Love coming here i do
N. H.
Good massive Waterstones with a fair selection of book's all the greatest hits.
Wobbly tables in to the café though and toilets not brilliant.
M. A.
Lovely selection of books and a nice and relaxing cafe to unwind.
C. F.
Always good in here like these places books gallow
H. J.
Very atmospheric store, it's nice to come and choose books for yourself!
B. M.
Really nice staff, seating dotted around and a lot of books. This is what a bookshop should be like.
D. B.
I love this bookshop. They literally sell every book you want. I visit this branch every three weeks to buy books for my leisure time and for grad school as well. The staff are friendly and really helpful. The shop is so organized and tidy. It’s suitable for everyone and every age group. If you are a student, it’s your perfect spot. If you’re a reader/ writer it’s also your spot. It’s for everyone and the prices are reasonable and the options are great.
R. M.
This place is huge and full of exciting stories, information and stunning facts contained in books of all types. What is not to adore?
G. B.
Good selection of books and helpful staff and yes the cafe is open again
K. D.
My favourite Waterstones by a mile! Staff are always super friendly and helpful. Such a beautiful shop, I love coming in here for a moment of calm and finding a new book to buy. Stationery selection is wonderful too.
D. B.
Absolutely loved it,such a great selection ,also the children's selection, cafe great, couldn't fault it 👌
L. M.
A fantastic bookshop on several floors and a lovely little cafe too.
C.
Very helpful and fast staff searched for the signed book I wanted in other stores in the area without asking when it wasn't available in the storre I was in.
A. R. A.
A great book shop which is certainly the best in Manchester. There is a nice feel to the store and it's very relaxing to walk around.
L. T. T.
You can always find something of interest books, games and knick-knacks and now a cafe.
S. K.
I went into the Deansgate branch of Waterstones today in search of specific manga requested by my Kiddo for Christmas (there's a shortage of manga at the mo due to COVID). I was served by Ellen who was extremely helpful, spending time searching for and then reserving the books for me. She even suggested and then wrote down the name of another shop where she thought I might find the volumes that Waterstones didn't stock / couldn't order. I commend Ellen for the excellent customer service she provided today, Waterstones, you are lucky to have her on board!
s. d.
I could live here. Huge place full of...yes, you've guessed it!...books. As a birthday treat, I bought half the shop. Assistants were very friendly and helpful. Fetched me a basket when they saw me struggling with an armful. A reader's delight.
R.
Only been once while I was in Manchester but I was very impressed. The staff were friendly, everywhere was neat and it was easy to find what I wanted. Now the elephant in the room is the sheer size of their collection. The walls of every floor were stacked with books off all sizes and genres. I would highly recommend popping in for a visit if you are in Manchester. There is even a cafe for you to sit and read in, although it was closed when I visited.
E. Ö. Y.
It's a huge and quite comprehensive bookstore where you can find varied genres of books.
V. D.
Love this Waterstones, it is so huge, there is a massive selection of books. The staff are very friendly
M. E.
Lovely place lots of books. Good to interact with friendly staff rather than give Amazon my money.
G. P.
A quiet place away from what may often be a busy town centre, able to get a book, and then something to eat and drink in a generally pleasant atmosphere, school holidays notwithstanding.
S. L.
Deansgate is always beautiful to shop in. I was able to purchase two books for a gift.
E. F.
Always interesting, and sell good coffee.
S. B.
Always said if salary were no issue I'd love to work in a bookshop (assuming I was allowed time to actually look at the books when not busy), and this place would be a dream. Floor to ceiling full of a great range of books on all subjects, all reasonably priced. Look out for the special offers and sale items too, usually easily displayed to find.
M. M.
Very disappointed that the coffee shop is still closed. I had promised my little granddaughter that after she had chosen a book that we would have cake and a drink. One very sad little girl left without her treat. Also, there was no assistant on the till on the 2nd floor for rather a long time. I appreciate that when someone asks where a particular book or author is located that they would like to go and show them, however, to leave the pay desk for so long leaving other customers waiting is not ideal! Perhaps indicate where books are not don't leave your position at the till. Very unsatisfactory visit today!
D. J.
Great bookshop with everything you could want. Helpful and pleasant staff. Coffee shop and seating area needs to reopen so there is somewhere to enjoy your purchases.
R. C.
Now with higher postage charges from the UK to Spain i decided to stock up on books to last me the next 12 months or so. Spacious and clearly indicated sections. I was enjoying browsing so much that three hours passed in an instant. I will be back!
J. T.
Loved WaterStones for years, only ever buy books elsewhere if I absolutely need to.
F. O.
Excellent place to work during the week! There are places to plugging your computers. Also they are dog friendly!
M. A.
Forgottem how wonderful a place a bookshop is. So much to see and do lots of areaa of interest for everybody. I could have happilly got lost in here for days.
M. S.
Great atmosphere for any book worms out there
R.
I attended waterstones last night for a book launch by Graham Hancock. The event was pretty well organised and there were plenty of staff on hand. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the cafe was being closed down when we arrived at 5.45 so I was unable to get a coffee. Id have thought that if 60 or so people were attending for an event that they'd have stayed open a just half an hour longer so the people attending could get a drink to take in to the event. Other than that it was great
J. K.
You can find any book imaginable. Great coffee on the top floor
B.
Plenty of space to move around. Largest book store in the North West apparently. Places to sit and read in quiet. Only problem was the cafe and toilets were closed and didn't find out until I got up to the third floor.
R. C.
A wonderous place containing three floors of books, for whatever topic you can think of. Also includes, gifts, stationary, board games and other things. The top floor cafe is very nice with good seating.
M. J.
Great place to buy books
Staff always kind and knowledgeable
H. K.
Staff were helpful & cafe not too busy
G. P.
Love Waterstones on deansgate. Great shop and selection of books. Never tier of looking round
I. K.
Chilled, friendly atmosphere. Warm, welcoming, smiling staff who are knowledgeable and helpful
G. R.
The biggest and best branch of Waterstones in Manchester. Great for browsing with a huge choice of books, from popular fiction and children's books to academic and various non-fiction categories. Staff have always been friendly and helpful in my experience.
K. H.
Staff were nice. But if you ever have coffee here it is 65% froth.
A. A.
Much bigger place than the arndale centre Waterstones too
M. G.
Waterstones is my church. Visiting the store is food for my soul.
P. S.
Huge bookstore with board games, jigsaws and lots of other gift ideas.
T. B.
How a book store should be. Knowledgeable staff
M. B.
Favourite place to go to sit and study and just chill
S. M.
A superb bookshop over three floors. The best anywhere in Greater Manchester. It is a sheer joy to browse here. Helpful, knowledgeable staff.
J. H.
Lovely staff lovely place, we all left happy
R. D.
How a bookshop should be. Supportive staff, too.
R. W.
Three floors of books, friendly and helpful staff and a coffee shop. What more could you want?
S. 2.
One of the best book shops in the city, the children's section is fantastic and we always love a visit when in Manchester.
A. A.
One of the largest waterstones set across 3 floors with the cafe at the top. On the 2nd floor is a children's room which would be a good place to get out the rain from if you have children. Love how this waterstones is set out. You do need good time to browse being a bigger store.
V. R.
Thank you for supporting XR in efforts to increase awareness of the Climate and ecological emergency. You deserve a 5 star!
K. S.
I did not call into this store. However, l did email them regarding 3 or 4 books that l require. So l must say l am disappointed at not having received a response. I have used Waterstones on numerous occasion's in the past with no problem.
The selection of books is stupendous l will use them again because they are a good store with helpful and knowledgeable staff.
P. B.
Great place. Superb range, for a High Street bookstore. Shame that the cafe remains closed for the moment—robs the store of a certain vibrancy.
S. W.
Large shop with plenty of choice and a lovely cafe
D. E.
Love this waterstones.
Such a big location, across three floors
V. B.
The kids area is great, loads of variety. Not the cheapest books about but a lovely way to spend an hour.
J. D.
Amazing book selection which are pretty affordable.
T. A.
Way to many books, easily need to remortgage my house to own all the books I want.
Large business selection as well.
P. H.
Fabulous bookshop to well just get lost in! Packed to the rafters with every genre possible almost impossible to leave without a book or gift for a loved one. Perfect haven of peace, knowledge and tranquility.
S. R.
Classy book shop. I could live there!!!
s. r.
Beautiful bookshop, dream of every reader. You can easily spend hours there.
S.
Careful arrangements had been made in line with stay safe Covid19 recommendations but they weren't intrusive. Very peaceful atmosphere. Good range of books although not exhaustive. Polite and friendly staff. Enjoyed choosing some new books.
G. W.
Great books, great service.
B. F.
My son, my husband and I love reading! And this shop gives us all we need! Perfect, briliant staff and lots lots lots of books ❤️
M. L.
Love this store, huge selection of books and gifts. Plenty of time and space to browse, including seating. Also stocks a good selection of gifts, a great deal of which you won't find elsewhere. Make awesome stocking fillers or just something more off the wall. I especially like the travel section. Has a huge amount to offer, including map. Well worth a visit
h.
Absolutely beautiful place with a good selection of fiction and non fiction and a couple of floors on specialist subjects. Looking forward to visiting the Deansgate branch again to explore some more.
S. J.
Enormous! The best of the local Waterstones branches
C. V.
I love book stores. Waterstones is one of the best. The big one of St. Anne Square in Manchester is great. Huge depository of books and learning material. There is a sweet little cafe in there which is nicely priced. The staff are so helpful. I recommend this for all your book needs and a cheeky coffee.
M. P.
A beautiful bookstore and and a very helpful and friendly stuff. It was very nice to meet Charlotte who was extremely helpful and polite. Thank you!
s. n.
Love this place. The staff are great with helping you find the books you want, as well as new ones to give a try.
The coffee shop up stairs is a great little place to sit and enjoy the new books.

November 16, 2020
I completely agree with all 5-star reviews. I had no choice but to call today and speak with the gentleman at this store. Even though it wasn't in his power to help me, he was very professional and patient in listening to my complaints.
It is really sad that the employees who work in the bookshops can't check the status of the books ordered online.
Today is exactly three weeks as I ordered my books on October 26th. Even though I sent six messages to the Customer Service representatives team, I didn't get any "human" feedback, but the excerpts from the Delivery and Returns page.
I believe that such a situation is a failure of the management. Customer Service team can work and respond from home to the enquiries. I understand that the orders have to be shipped which requires a real presence of the employees, but at least the customers are not kept in darkness regarding their orders.
I believe that I am eligible to be updated as far my credit card was charged immediately. No doubt, I would feel much better if I had a brief response that a shipment of my order is delayed for a specific number of days. It would help.
The moment Waterstones charged my Visa, the company is liable to keep me as a customer updated. There is a very good word for it - fair play.
S. R.
Books are beautiful. Long live paper you can smell, touch, fold over and feel physically.
Could spend all day here. Kids are happy too: wide choices and a welcome break from their digital addictions...
N. S.
Love Waterstones, so much choice in a calm atmosphere, book lovers paradise
J. A.
It was amazing pleasure to visit this place. One separate world.I am glad that such bookstore still exist in this ONLINE world.
B. S.
This Waterstones is hands down the best one I have ever been to. The sheer size of it is impressive and despite that, everything is tidy and perfectly in its place. If you love books and like browsing, you need to experience this Waterstones, plus the staff have always put a smile on my face.
S. (.
Lots of books, 3 whole floors infact
J. W.
This has got to be one of the last major book shops of its size. It has every book you could want, and every book you didn't know you wanted. Spread across 3 floors, with each subject area clearly marked, whether you are looking for a gift, something academic or some inspiration for yourself, Waterstones in Manchester is worth a visit.
R. G.
Love Waterstones, so much more than just books.
J.
This Waterstones store is huge, the selection is amazing. They have a section for just about any type of new book you can buy. Plenty of seating for you to have a quick read before you buy also. They even have a cafe. Must visit if you love books.
C. O.
Fab shop! Not just books, but toys, craft sets etc. Large part of upstairs devoted to children - loved looking around, sure my grandchildren would too. Bought books, staff informative & helpful.
I. H.
Great selection over three floors with a cafe at the top. Lots of categories and choice. There's a lot of space to simply sit and read, and it isn't usually packed even when quite busy (unless it's Christmas). I've spent a good few hours in here browsing the sections and then taking my purchase up to the cafe to read.
One downside I have noticed is that on occasion books have been scuffed, marked or creased and this has stopped me buying in-store sometimes.
s. s.
Incredible choice of books, could very easily have spent hours in there! Iwent looking for one particular book (which it turned out they did not have although they could order it in), but as usual I then spent some considerable time browsing dozens of other books, and eventually bought several of these! A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend part of a Sunday afternoon in Manchester.
8.
Very tidy and well organised, didn't stock any of the three books I went in for but were able to order one.
D. C.
Really nice store with easy signage. Pleasant experience for my first real time in a book shop
C. R.
Found a couple of books I have been looking for, was visiting the area and popped in. Glad I did. The shop was clean and quite busy, would look in again if I was in the area.
S. H.
Calm and quiet with a great selection of books, maps and academic material. I was looking for materials on gardening and cooking/preserving/baking and was impressed by the range. Staff were unobtrusive but helpful when approached. Overall a pleasant experience.
S. R.
Always great service even in a lockdown. Completely forgot to stock up on books for the lockdown so ordered on click and collect. Shortly after spoke to a really helpful guy on the phone, made payment and collected within the hour. All covid measures stayed in place and didn't even need to go into the store when collecting. Out of lockdown it is by far the best book shop with a huge range!
D. T.
Love this store. Great range of books. Helpful, knowledgeable staff.
J. M.
Amazing bookshop. I've visited many Waterstones bookshops in my time but this has everything. Reminds me of a huge library. Anyone could go into this shop and purchase a book. There's something for everyone. Different floors offering a full range of fiction and non fiction are well laid out and ready to find. The staff seemed very helpful. I especially liked their European fiction (translated into English) section, which contained the top works of Russian and European cultures. Interesting and varied collection of books and reading matter. Would highly recommend.
A. U.
celestial, I could sit there all day, all things books. been to quite a number of countries and this is easily the most beautiful bookstore I have seen
S. W.
The staff were really helpful with suggesting books to fit a fairly strange and specific idea i had and i left very happy. Even better, the book we settled on was incredible and one of my tops of all time now!
Their displays were seasonal, very relevant and easy to navigate for shoppers.
D. S.
A wonderful place with 3 stories and a café for you to enjoy reading/working (and a great hot chocolate). Full of books vibrant with the stories eager to be read. Close your eyes on the middle of any section and you can hear them all chanting! My top place to go after books :)
D. C. L. G.
I love that bookstore! Many options and great environment!
P. E.
In an era where many people read on their kindles or order online, it’s reassuring to still find one large book store in central Manchester. If you love literature and/or books as beautiful objects, you will love wandering there to find gems. Very good selection! The staff is friendly and engaged, you are likely to get cool suggestions if you ask.
C. B.
Great selection and friendly staff!! 👌
M. L.
One of the bigger boom shops around with a wider variety. It is run well, and houses most of the commercial books one can find. Loads of children books and toys on the first floor. The café on the top is half decent, and the sitting area is actually nicer than a lot of cafés. They hold a variety of events, so some corners can get a bit busy. Good place for baby events.
V. C. W.
Large, excellent selection of books for a bookshop vs an online shop that can stock an infinite variety. Cafe sells good coffee and tasty selection of food. Toilet facilities available on 2nd floor. Lifts and escalators as well as stairs available for every floor. Store staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Waterstones is my favourite haven in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Manchester
A. H.
Best selection of books outside foyles. Really good to see such a wide selection of physical books.
L. H.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Found 2/3 books I've been looking for and the man helping me was very quick to offer to order in to the store the book they didn't have in stock. I don't live in Manchester, so declined, but I did have it ordered to my local store. Store is very clean and cozy and well stocked.
D. B.
Amazing customer service, and amazingly extensive range of books. Over 3 floors, including a café that's reasonably priced. Layout is a little confusing, and never seems to stay the same, but the amount of books on offer is unbelievable. I stayed here for hours on several occasions. A book-lover's heaven.
J. C.
The choice of stock is somewhat limited. I have awarded three stars because the staff are friendly and give good service. For a bookshop of this calibre the expectation are much higher, much like the average price of a text book.
B. H.
The book store is amazing, so many books to choose from and currently loving the recommended book shelves. Staff are so nice and very helpful. If you're looking for a great atmosphere day and night, definitely check out Waterstones.
A. R.
A good selection of books spread across multiple floors. Their science fiction section is not simply one shelf shared with graphic novels; more than enough to keep fans of the genre happy. They have a dedicated area for children's books, a collection of board games and good café that serves coffee and nice cakes.
F. R.
The place is awesome for readers, sort of a disneyland for people who reads for pleasure and relaxation. They also have a coffee shop in store if you want to take a break. Clean, quiet space, comfortable couches, this is a 5 Star place.
K. D.
This Waterstones has so many floors with every category you can think of. It is a welcoming bookshop and you can spend hours here getting lost in all the books. Great place for all book lovers.
C. R.
Centrally located, large choice, making it difficult not to buy anything.. I came home with several popular novels from my bucket list. As inviting Waterstones is to purchase more than you had thought, staff also knows their stuff and helps you find gifts and if you were not sure which one to get, find just that one. Good place for books!
P. R.
Amazing book shop this. Yes it's a national chain bit it's still charming. Wonderfully laid out sections and great place to browse. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The Grand cafe on the top floor is a perfect place to chill out too.
f. f.
Perhaps the best book shop I've ever been in.
Brilliant kids section with plenty of chairs and window seats that encourage you to pick up a book and dive in.
Staff that are obviously readers and passionate about books.
You could quite easily spend a long time browsing across the three floors here and still not scratch the surface of how much it has to offer.
P. C.
Always pop in whenever I am in Manchester, it's HUGE! Any book lover could lose themselves for hours here.
M. M.
The best-looking bookstore in Manchester. 3 floors filled with a large selection of books. Great atmosphere to sit down, have a quick look through some books or enjoy a coffee. Members of staff are always friendly and helpful.

A must go bookshop for me. Large range of books, comfortable, great cafe.
I. h.
A wonderful place. Helpful and friendly staff. Good for buying books that you want but even better when you find something that really interests you but that you don't always know that it's been published. An oasis of calm and tranquility in the middle of a bustling city. Perfect.
H. M.
This book store has 3 levels and has the biggest variety of books I have ever seen. The staff are friendly and helpful and will always take time out to make sure you find what you're looking for. There are several chairs around so you can sit and read a book if your not sure that you want to purchase it at first.
J. P.
Still a great place to browse or have a coffee. I really like the fact that the staff write personalised recommendations of some of the books. It's obviously part of a chain and lacks the charm of a small suburban bookshop but this branch has always had a very agreeable atmosphere.
S. '.
The atmosphere, the service and the store itself is great for everyone who loves/likes books. You'll find a great amount of books there, with the additional coffee shop in the back in case you cannot wait to read it or you need a quick bite.
C. F.
This Waterstones is much larger than the one in the Arndale. There are multiple floors that are filled with a great variety of books. If you were looking for a specific book or fancied browsing a large collection of books then this Waterstones is an ideal place to visit.
C. T.
Lots of great books.
J. T.
Huge selection of books and helpful staff who helped me find exactly what I was looking for.
H. B.
You're looking for the typical bookstore feeling with carpeted floor, wooden staircases and old bookshelves to dive into? Then this Waterstones is exactly for you. The traditional feel of the location makes you want to sit down and browse through the wide selection of books of all genres. Many sitting oportunities in form of sofas and comfortable chairs make that possible and so you can spend hours on the many floors of this shop. Getting tired? No problem with the in-store Coffee shop offering steaming coffee and other hot brews.
j. d.
There were no watery stones but they have the finest of Japanese literatures. There are more here than any other book store I have ever entered. However when I was looking for the Russian books I couldn't find any, I was rather upset but overall it was a fantastic experience and I would go back again for it all again
I. A.
Love this shop
D. E.
Great layout friendly staff.
J. H.
Always nice in Waterstones.
C. V.
I love book stores. Waterstones is one of the best. The big one of St. Anne Square in Manchester is great. Huge depository of books and learning material. There is a sweet little cafe in there which is nicely priced. The staff are so helpful. I recommend this for all your book needs and a cheeky coffee.
f. U. w.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, café is okay when it's open (closed due to COVID).
A. D.
Excellent stock and professional environment and staff
K. R.
Great
C. R.
Found a couple of books I have been looking for, was visiting the area and popped in. Glad I did. The shop was clean and quite busy, would look in again if I was in the area.
S.
Careful arrangements had been made in line with stay safe Covid19 recommendations but they weren't intrusive. Very peaceful atmosphere. Good range of books although not exhaustive. Polite and friendly staff. Enjoyed choosing some new books.

Disappointed there weren't more chairs available to allow customers to sit down on the shop floor so to speak.
The cafe area is lovely and relaxing
However the attitude of the female member of staff on duty wasn't particularly pleasant. This particular member of staff was rather abrupt and not very helpful. There was only one member of staff serving, service was rather slow. Whilst we had all waited a long time, nearly 20 minutes to get served, one customer got his drink free because he had waited a long time. Rather irritating.
D. P.
I like Waterstones but I love the Deansgate store. It's a bookshop that exudes character and the staff fit right in with that character. They give the impression their ideal job is working in a book store
B. D.
Superb store, amazing selection of books and excellent staff, highly recommended
I. T.
Lovely bookshop on Deansgate, loads of room to find loads of books, with helpful staff.
T. G.
Sells books and other gift stuff. Good selection. Would like to see a used section though
P.
Something about book shops reminds me of being a kid in a sweet shop. Too much choice and not enough time. The store on deansgate is great. Well laid out with wide selection of books for all ages and interests. Perhaps a few more staff on shop the shop floor to assist customers with their selections.
C.
Good selection of books across the multiple floors within the building, and with a café on the top floor this gives a perfect opportunity to stop and have a quiet read with a coffee. Employees are very helpful and knowledgeable, helping me to find the book I wanted in no time at all.
K.
We took our toddler and baby. The staff were really nice. My toddler was free to look at as many books as he wanted and the baby was happy crawling all over the place. Nice visit would go again.
J. H.
Love Waterstones. It has a wide selection of books and if they happen not to have what you want, they'll order it in for you. The staff are lovely and helpful and the atmosphere is always calm, as with all Waterstones. If you like books, definitely check it out!
C. M.
Seem to be going through a bit of a change, parts of the ground floor have been changed to focus on gifts and gift books, but it looks hastily done and feels disjointed with the rest of the shop. It's a pleasant addition in its own right however. There's also a really nice bar on the upper floors serving coffee, teas and alcoholic drinks, but again it feels hastily done with some of the old shelving and fixtures still hanging about. Needs a little TLC in terms of the shop, but big credit to the staff who are fantastic
L. W.
It's an excellent bookshop, to put it simply. Stocks everything that anyone could want to read, from obscure, avant-garde philosophy to the well trodden grounds of graphic novels and onwards. All topped with excellent, helpful staff and a decent coffee shop at the top. Quality all around.
A. D.
A huge store spread over multiple floors. Has a great range of books covering most subjects. Also has a nice restaurant/coffee shop on the top floor which is peaceful and well worth checking out.
M. H.
Really helpful Sales Assistant found the books I wanted. Good visit.
K.
Escalators available for the journey between the first and second floor, one must use the stairs to access the third floor however. There is a lift available. Highly recommend the cafe on the third floor. Wide selection of teas and coffee freshly made, and cakes that vary by day. I highly recommend the hot chocolate with coconut milk- tastes like a bounty!
I. W.
If you want a book its THE place to look. 😇
A. B.
I always get a thrill going into a book shop. There's something so special about browsing a bookshop, glancing at what other people are reading, chatting to staff. I love book recomendations, it's like making a new friend. You just don't get the same experience online.
I. P.
A wide range of books with excellent staff to help you get what you want.
c. b.
Probably the best Waterstones I've been to. They have such a wonderful selection. Impressed with how well stocked their philosophy section is. Oh and it has a cafe on the top floor which always hits the spot
S. C.
Excellent selection of gifts as well as books. Good helpful service.
We need to support our bookshops!
A. L.
It may be the digital age but, oh my, there's nothing quite like browsing through a bookstore. Libraries come a close second but bookstores just pip it with the smell of fresh pristine books! And no creases on the spine of the books! Waterstones is the last remaining big books seller and I hope that they will survive the battering of online books. I just love coming here; it's nice, cosy and the friendly staff are more than happy to help out. I also like how they have staff recommendations littered throughout the store. It's nice to know that the staff enjoy the books as much as the customers do.
K. M.
Books and coffee! Add great staff and it's almost worth wearing a face bag to get in. Only reason for just 4 stars is that they allow some selfish types to hog the seating in the cafe while they complete their thesis!
h. e.
Extremely beautiful and very friendly folks.
I am a book lover . I enjoy reading.
Reading is on of my favourite hobbies.
I STRONGLY recommend Waterstones to
anyone visiting Lovely Manchester.
If I will get a chance to work for Waterstones , I will definitely do .
Waterstones is my favourite place
to visit and get all the books and any
of my related products as greeting cards , gift wraps , etc .
Thank you very much indeed Waterstones
Deansgate.
HISHAM ELFIKI
M. R.
Well established book shop, large selection of titles available, cafe on second floor, huge selection of travel books on the first floor.
M. J.
This is such a lovely Waterstones, much bigger than the one in Arndale and very good book recommendations from staff too
J. G.
I know, I know, it's a chain shop, but as chain-bookshops go it's quite grand. It has a massive range, the staff are helpful and the absolute winner is the cafe on the top floor. Depending on the time of day, you can nip upstairs & get reading over a coffee or a glass of wine - it almost makes reading feel sociable.
I. D.
Such a great book store, with two large stories of books and a cafe. There's basically everything you want and the building itself is pretty good.
If you like books and bookstores, check it out.
K. C.
It's pretty big with a few floors to explore, so it has a very good range of books to look at. It has a large child's area too, with seating to read books to children too.
l. k.
I went to the cafe on the second floor. Very nice and quiet area, lots of comfortable seating. Good value drinks and food available. Shame it's on the second floor and it does feel weird having to walk through the book store to get there.
K. R. H.
Love the book shop.. it's always a pleasure to walk through, brows and spot the occasional celebrity and of course buy the book you came in for.
C. H.
Huge store. Lots of choice. Very helpful staff
T. T.
Went there to study for a final exam with a friend. Large seating area, very comfortable, nice staff, rarely crowded and very quiet. All in all, great place to study or read and a wonderful atmosphere in general.
Would recommend a visit 👍🏼
I. C. H.
If you love books real physical books yes I am a boomer Waterstones Deansgate branch is the place to be. Great atmosphere with chairs dotted around feels like a university library rather than a bookstore all subjects covered from fiction to non fiction discounts on best sellers with a quick ordering system this is where to purchase books in Manchester if you don't want the enemy of competition Amazon to dominate and destroy the high street bookstores personally I'm quite happy to pay full price at Waterstones rather than the discount Amazon price.
Friendly staff you can browse the three floors to your hearts content. Highly Recommended 10 out of 10.
C.
Fantastic book store could spend hours and hours in here
D. S.
Massive with a great book selection and helpful, friendly staff
N. J.
Nice bookstore with plenty of good books. I checked out their cricket books selection and they had a lot! Nice seating areas too, with some comfy sofas.
M. H.
One of the Cornerstones of the city is Waterstones book store. Here you can litterally feel at home....installled in the old Kendals building that was accesible from across the road via the tunnel. On the top floor was a place I used to frequent where they once sold musical instrument....now its Waterstones cafe large enough to offer patrons a little privacy. In an age when books are struggling against the ever increasing demand for online alternatives I would still choose a book rather than read a kindle any day. Here it really does feel homely with few restrictions on sitting down on a battered well used old leather sofa and burying yourself in a book. You could literally stay and read a whole book but that would just add to the demise if you were not to purchase it. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff....its better than a library, but I support the Library in that it remains a part of whetever is left of our sad culture. We chip away at our own identity as a nation. Waterstones Survives thankyou to the company !!
L. T.
Great bookstore, but not many books on smallholding. Was looking for a specific title that's had great reviews on Amazon, but neither Manchester store has it in stock.
T. H.
Fully wheelchair-accessible, though could do with a couple of lowered counters & some evening-up of the floor near the Deansgate entrance to improve things a little.
Has a lovely wide selection of literature, stationery & related memorabilia etc., & staff are usually perfectly willing to listen to further stock suggestions, & mostly quite friendly & helpful to customers.
Comfortable, warm and welcoming in atmosphere, with plenty of seating throughout the shop, as well as a good-quality café on the third floor. Opening hours are generally pleasantly convenient across all 7 days of the week (excepting on Christian holy days such as Easter Sunday, when the shop is entirely closed).
C. B.
Great bookstore. Vast selection, helpful staff and you can always get a nice coffee on the top floor.
T. B.
This is quite a large branch of the national bookshop chain. It's located centrally, on Deansgate near St Ann's Square, with a back entrance on Police Street. It has three floors, including a cafe on the top floor. Since it's a Waterstones, the stocking policy means that only books sold within a certain timescale will be kept in stock, so there's a limit to how interesting and obscure the books you'll find while browsing will be. However, given the size of the premises and the amount of stock, there's still scope to spend quite some time in here, and make some serendipitous discoveries. What's particularly good about this branch is staff picks: there are several book cases on the ground floor with staff choices and accompanying reviews, across several genres, and there are also little staff review cards dotted around all the other shelves too.
P. S.
Big Waterstones with a wide selection of books, stationery etc. The cafe on the top floor sell lovely hot and cold drinks and snacks. Comfy chairs and toilets are clean.
H. E.
Best place for books. I could live here 😀. Café is top. Many inspirations, many friendly people, nicely organized. I left with about 15 books (coming from Germany and providing myself with good english books).
G. I.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff here. Great selection in a fab shop!
M. M.
Great and surprisingly big bookstore with an amazing selection of books, card, gifts etc. You can wonder around for hours and when you get thirsty or hungry you can get yourself a cake and coffee in the cafe on the top floor.
A. F.
I love bookshops. This one is one of the best I've been to...
3 floors, an Aladdin's cave of books, a children's room, a sci fi cul de sac.
Though it took me a fair while to retrieve my kids who were lost in a world of stories.
D. C.
Great place with huge selection of books. Lots of helpful staff on hand if you need help and a cafe to sit and unwind with a good book.
E. L.
Huge selection and variety of books. Just wish it had a larger manga section
S. R.
A wide range of books as expected. If you are wondering which Waterstones is bigger (here or arndale) it's this one. Café with bathrooms on the top floor as well as small seating areas scattered throughout the store. Can potentially spend hours here. I know I have.
A. G.
Waterstones has always been a great bookshop. This one is massive (with 3 floors). It has a good variety of books and the people who work there are friendly.
S. N.
Visited today and was helped looking for a particular book. The staff member I dealt with was helpful and friendly and went on a search for me, managing to get me the last copy in store.
I. J.
Best book shop for miles. Best in Manchester and far beyond. Wide choice. Lovely atmosphere. Miss the tables of books from all over the world in the fiction area.
A. G.
Excellent well stocked book store with an independent café on the top floor. Though something of a dying industry, Waterstones Manchester continues to thrive with high footfall and excellent variety. A warm, well furnished building, there are plenty of chairs and quiet corners in which to browse. Staff are helpful though a little thin on the ground. If you're stuck in Manchester on a cold, wet day (what other kind is there?) this is a great place to curl up with a book and a coffee.
J. B.
An amazing place. It is huge with a massive range of books and interesting displays. When we visited there was even a children's storyteller and face painting. There was a wonderful atmosphere and helpful and friendly staff
G. T.
Excellent book shop. Staff very helpful and friendly.
B. L.
Love this place, except i was challenged by keen staff when i opened my rucksack to check for space when I was picking up a trivial pursuits game! We had a laugh about it and it was sad to hear that shoplifting had skyrocketed this year, the game did fit in my bag after i paid for it first.
A. H.
I love a bookstore with a coffee shop😚
P. W.
Great place to shop. The staff were very helpful when I couldn't find the book that I wanted. I was then able to find it on the stand.
B. M.
Got book had being looking for a long here good place
M. T.
I love this place dearly. It's the largest bookshop in the north of England. It's difficult not to spend too much because I keep finding books I want to take home with me.
C. H.
Standing at enquiry desk to just be ignored.
Got the book I wanted but was 12.99 in store but only 8.99 online, so when I said that I'd leave it and get online or elsewhere he said he could price match the Waterstone online price. Which was good because I knew so got it at 8.99,but unfair on anyone who didn't realise. Always check the price online first if shopping in here.
E. C.
Good selection of books, with good ideas for small gift ideas on small tables by the counter, perfect for Christmas. Staff are usually noticeably quite friendly and helpful at this branch
S. G.
One of the best Waterstones I've been in. It has a gigantic collection of books and even more niche titles like a queer section
J. T.
This Waterstones is set in an absolutely gorgeous building with a massive collection. The staff were friendly and helpful when looking for specific books and I will be going in whenever I'm back in Manchester
K. S.
Manchester Deansgate store is said to be biggest bookshop in North. It is very well_stocked and there is plenty of room to roam and browse the books. The cafe is quite good.
J. N.
It's a massive Waterstones, had books on just about everything. Also a nice cafe on the top floor where you can get a fairly priced drink and read your new purchase
s. A.
Good selection and good service. Got what I came in for which wasn't available anywhere else in the city.
R. T.
Nice selection of books. Very good atmosphere - spacious and relatively quiet. Staff are nice, too!
J. M.
Incredibly large book shop, great atmosphere. Unfortunately not got a lot of manga, finding the volume you need is pot luck, best checking online first.
A.
Biggest Waterstones I've ever seen, I can see myself coming here a lot when I'm in Manchester.
G. P.
It is good to have a Costa coffee in a book shop, particularly in Bolton, quite often when other cafes are packed, this one, being upstairs, and the book shop being a little out of the way, tends to have room, and it usually tends to be a small oasis of peace, people have even written poems about the and put them on the notice board, the staff are also very good, a nice experience!
B. H.
The best and last of the big bookshops. The Manchester one is huge and is a book lovers paradise. This is the place to go for a coffee and read what you've bought.
A. W.
My favourite Waterstones I've been to and one of the biggest. Cafe upstairs is well worth checking out they do great coffees and cakes!
M. B.
This is probably the best book shop in the are. Very well stocked and a great variety of graphic novels. They also have a fantastic cafe with WiFi. Time will be well spent here.
B. C.
Cosy, clean and very helpful staff. Deceptively, large, with good selection and zones for ease of shopping
R. H.
Great store, I could spend (and have spent) hours wandering round browsing. Brilliant and helpful staff to. all around great place.
T. D.
Love this store. I could get lost in it and the world of books only surfacing when I got hungry! Though this is not my local store it is a great flag ship for the Waterstones brand.
S. M.
It's a fabulous book shop. Really helpful staff. Thanks to the guy that went and found my book for me. Top service.
R. R. B.
A giant and beautiful book store. It has a cafe on the top floor. Also in addition to books the store sells boardgames and nerdy merchandises. Great place to find gifts.
B. B.
The Manchester Deansgate branch is huge and well stocked, to give it further credit, the staff are excellent, helpful and knowledgeable. A great place to shop.
A. K.
Waterstones is a place, where you can find any book you like. As for me, when I need some book, I go to the Waterstones. As a bonus, you can drink tasty coffee here.
D. H.
I always visit the Deansgate Waterstones when I am in Manchester. I find it so much more interesting to browse around a physical book store rather than an online gallery of cover images. Friendly and helpful staff. A great bookshop.
T. G. D. -. R. X.
Amazing bookstore with a enormous selection, I was amazed an impressed also to see three shelves of philosophy books, hopefully there will be more in the future, honestly this waterstones is so big you will be amazed.
C. P.
A great place to look for a book. I was also able to buy a few gift cards which saved me having to walk yo a other shop. Staff are great.
A. H.
Just super to browse through a huge almost library like place.
F. F.
So much choice and really well organised. Perfect for browsing and finding new favourites. I am a big fan of the lay out for the world fiction section and could happily spend a good hour or so here
B. K.
It looks quite small on the outside but actually it's quote big inside. Lots of variety, and we'll laid out. Really good collection of board games compared to some of the others!
K. A.
There is nothing beats the experience of wandering through shelves and aisles of books. I can honestly spend a day absorbing the atmosphere there.
P. E.
One of the best bookshops in the UK. A huge variety of books but also games and some craft related items. A nice cafe as well.
M. J.
Great as always, huge selection, brilliant atmosphere, helpful staff.
J. S. E.
My choice is limited but if you like crime, fiction, and the latest editions.
Nothing like a good read.
Also you do get a chance to meet

M. F.
Could easily spend a few hours book browsing here!
M. S.
Rad bookstore. Have been buying books from this store in Manchester since the early 90s. Best book store in town ! Great place to eat and chill as well. Must visit while in MCR.
P. B.
Great book store. Plenty of stock to choose from, and friendly and helpful staff.
I. B.
Great bookshop. Big with lots of variety. A few comfy chairs to read. Picked up an interesting new novel.
J. M.
You can keep your online shopping, humans are sensory creatures. We like to hold things. Books, are brilliant!!!
J. W.
Knowledgeable staff and the widest selection of books you could imagine. It's possible to loose yourself in here for hours ~ great that they have a coffee shop too!
M. J. P.
Once the site of Kendals electrical and lighting department, this lovely old store on Deansgate has been rescued by Waterstones, much as they have done with Simpson's of Piccadilly in London and many others in cities around the country. Also, as with Simpson's, they have located a nice, licensed café - bar on the top floor with comfortable seating and good views. In fact the whole building is a joy to spend time in, with an amazing wealth of books on the shelves and heaps of space and seating all around. It is a real oasis of calmness and civilisation in the centre of Manchester. Long may proper high street bookshops survive the e-book onslaught.
D. S.
I've found the shop not too crowded and manageable to move around. Plus double points on purchases was a bonus!
D. L.
Big waterstones so a big selection obviously, always plenty of interesting art reference whenever I go in. My only gripe is that with how big there selection of osprey books is, if you're looking for anything other than ww2 your going to find it severely lacking.
A. S.
Wonderful Waterstones on Manchester's not so wonderful Deangate is a gem and a large one at that. I could quite easily spend half a day looking through the biggest bookshop in the north of England.... highly recommended.
A. M.
Had a great experience meeting Markus zusack. The store itself has a very chilled atmosphere and lots of choice for book and boardgame lovers alike.
f. U. w.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, café is okay when it's open (closed due to COVID).
J. H.
Lovely big book shop with a wide selection, and plenty of places to have a sit and read whilst you decide what to buy.
R. L.
Really good selection of books, great events, doesn't ever seem short staffed. The staff actually have knowledge and enthusiasm for books!
K. S.
Biggest bookshop in the North didn t have a single book by Howard Jacobsen....pretty poor!
A. N.
Great place for lunch on a hot day and for meeting up with friend of 55 years! Dear Lyn, can it really be so long ago when we first met!
T. P. F.
A great store on more than one level. Spacious and comfortable, an enjoyable place to be in. Cafe too. Great art section.
M. F.
Friendly, efficient service in a laid-back and pleasant atmosphere. Parts of this shop feel almost like a library, only with more comfortable seats :-)
L. R.
Very helpful staff. Great place to browse then relax with a book. No pressure to purchase.
Comfortable cafe with plenty of seating areas
G. d.
Best book shop in the North West, bar none.
W. A. T.
Good collection of books. Can be made a bit easier to find the exact book or author that you're looking for. It's a great shop!
B. H.
Amazing selection of books over 3 floors.
L. A.
Found the cryptic crossword section and it wasn't small. Traded in my 15 year old book tokens for a fat book of telegraph crosswords. Nice coffee shop on the top floor too.
E. C.
It's Waterstones, big, friendly and with a cafe on the top floor. Good bookshop, cafe prices good but some of the sofa throws looked about at the end of their life.
j. C.
Do you sell books I tentatively asked the assistant yes the assistant replied. Name one i countered he paused looking confused then replied angels and demons thats not a book thats an abomination i screamed. We both laughed for exactly 28 seconds then instantly stopped and then proceeded to a slap up meal.
c. s.
A lovely Waterstones over 3 floors but if you are looking in the Sci-fi/Fantasy section you want to go to the Arndale as they dont do the buy one get one for half price on Deansgate.
d.
Excellent selection of books. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Great coffee shop
G. L.
I mean, its full of books. Thousands and thousands of books. Like a shop, full of books. It's like somebody thought "let's put all the books in one place", and then exploded from excitement. One of the best places in the world.
S. c.
Biggest bookshop in Manchester that I know of! Have everything or can order it, but you’ll pay full price as not cheap. The staff are helpful and can help you navigate your way round as it’s such a big shop!
T. P.
Feels homely and the staff are welcoming and helpful. Great lay out to wander round, grab a coffee inside and you can easily spend an hour in here.
a. k.
Great selection of books. Open almost all the time. Friendly staff, always happy to help.
J. R.

A 'Golden Wonder' of the binding world.
If you have problems finding an edition, don't worry, the staff at Waterstones, Deansgate Manchester, are more than willing to help.
The cafe has a nice sandwiche, for the hungry.
That's how I found it, on my visit, a few weeks ago.
F. K.
A very nice book store. There are several floors, but it's easy to find what you're looking for. Well worth a visit.
W. S.
Wonderful way to spend an afternoon in Manchester. Reading, coffee and cake. What more could you ask for in a shop. Keep up the great work Waterstones.
P. P.

G.
Book worm paradise, the very best book shop I have visited! The childrens section is great, my daughter loves exploring all the books
J. H.
Always nice in Waterstones.
D. H.
Great shop massive selection of books. Only criticism children's books being upstairs. When your loaded down with shopping its a hassle.
P. K.
I doubt if there's another bookshop with such a large and diverse stock in the country and that includes London. The building is also full of character.
R. W.
It's a great bookshop, which still has a small bookshop feel. I hope people buy enough books to keep them all going.
k. m.
The staff make this place. They are so knowledgeable friendly and helpful. The shop is well laid out and spacious with disabled access even to the upstairs
S. D.
Good selection of books, also had coffee. Was a lift and escalators to get upstairs. Visited toilets, easily accessible and clean
G. S.
Good book shop. Nice café. Didn't have the book I needed but granddaughter liked the children's room

K. S.
Great shop, nicely spaced out, and a cafe with friendly staff and compost able disposable cutlery and cups.
A. U.
Really big store. Large selection of books and games. Also have a coffee shop on site. Always a good thing to support a highstreet book store
J. L.
Great bookstore. Huge range - if you’re a book lover you could spend hour here
S. S.
Friendly staff. This is a mammoth of a Waterstones, 8 hours could pass and you would still find yourself on the second floor
C. C.
Big store on Deansgate with fantastic window displays which tempted me in. Friendly service.

I love this shop, could quite happily spend the morning here! Great to see sections still instead of just A to Z, staff are fabulous and always helpful and give you recommendations.

Three best book shop in Manchester now. Pretty much the only book shop in Manchester. Not the cheapest though. But it's nice to be able to hold a book before you buy it.

T. L.
It's really good got 3 new books from there read them all in less than a month, cant wait to go back
M. L.
Lotsa books! Not many places left where there are actually lots of actual books that you can pick up, feel, read, sniff and buy. If you need a bigger book buzz, you'll have to go to Foyles.
T. O.
An institution.. Really love this place. Full of nice books. The coffee shop also very cool.
A. C.
One of the largest Waterstones I have ever been to.
S. P.
Always a good place to browse. Knowledgeable staff - proper booksellers. As well as what you would expect in stock, lots of the not so obvious to tempt.
S. W.
Love Waterstones. It's a fantastic book shop where you could spend hours looking around. Lovely coffee bar with healthy choice sandwiches.

The best Waterstones in Manchester, great choice, friendly staff and of you get chance head to the top floor for some great coffee mixed with a fantastic view

I always make a point of visiting this Waterstones when I'm in Manchester, even if it's to check out what's there. There's a great selection of books, and the staff are great if you need any help.
S. E.
Beautiful bookstore with a huge range of fiction and non-fiction books across various genres, as well as stationary (e.g. notebooks, greeting cards, etc)

Couldn't find exactly what I had hoped for but found a suitable and amusing substitute in 'Horrid Henry'. Much more fun than some super hero anyway!
D. B.
Great bookshop, knowledgeable, helpful staff who clearly love books. Hosts ouyt crochet group once a month.
R. M.
You can get lost in here, in a good way. Always new finds to be had. I spend a fortune in here so I tend to avoid unless I'm feeling rich 🤣
K. H.
Great staff very helpful

Probably one of the biggest bookshops chain in the UK, their stores are usually large and have a distinct design. Manchester city centre has two: one on Deansgate street and one in the Arndale shopping centre. These are quiet places each with a coffee shop, the one on Deansgate street is large and comfortable. I recommend a visit to a Waterstone's to spend time the browsing latest titles. The staff is friendly, the shop floor is easy to navigate, both stores have wheelchair access and they have a kid's corner. One of my favourite pastime is visiting a Waterstone's just by myself.
M. P.
Great book seller. Come buy and read. Do it old school. Paper is more beautiful than any form of digital media.
J. L.
A nice place to sit and eat a light snack or enjoy coffee and cake. It is on the top floor but there is a lift and escalator.
M. C.
Hands down my favourite book store in Manchester. So big and so much choice. Cute little cafe.
J. M.
Staff were very helpful - went found book I wanted and brought it to me at the til
T. H.
Nice relaxing place to browse and have a drink. Downside is that like most places, it won't employ enough staff in the cafe and thus there is inevitably a case of having to queue endlessly
S. C.
It might be a chain, but it's getting more difficult to find a good book-shop these days. I can always find something to read in Waterstone's, even if it's not what I planned to buy when I went there...
A. I.
Without a doubt the best book shop in the world...sit and read...walk around browsing almost the books...purchase a book, I could easily spend a full weekend in there...Fab
R. R.
What's not to like?
Staff are enthusiastic. More books than you can shake a stick at.
A little cafe.
Spent a fortune!
P. R.
Fantastic book shop over 3 floors, packed with every book imaginable. Friendly, helpful staff.
M. S.
Less of a bookshop, more of a hipster parade. It is a fantastic place to go "Top Knot" spotting, as well as playing a game of "Rate that beard"
S. H.
Great big book shop, love the cafe to sit and read with a good book. I bought a book of Spanish stories in dual language format.
B. F.
Books well laid out, room between the display tables, staff knowledgeable about the store and the books/authors.
C. R.
Most wonderful store that has everything a book lover could want; this is appropriate book shop in a great city
J. L.
Great book shop, loads of books. If you like books on shelves, this is the shop for you.
D. W.
My favourite shop in the world! A great place to browse and relax, even have a coffee. 10/10
C. F.
A rarity these days but a great bookshop. A great size with multiple floors and friendly staff
P. T.
Struggled a bit to find what I wanted and was not many staff about. It was a busy period though and when I did find someone they were very friendly and helpful.
N. M.
Has a lovely reading session for babies and toddlers on the 1st floor on Fridays and the cafeteria on the 2nd floor is a good size
E. M.
I consider Waterstones-Deansgate my book temple. A huge variety of subjects covered by a three-store collection of volumes. All topped by a very friendly staff :-)
C.
4 floors with huge selection of books and interesting displays. In store coffee shop, and seating.
M. R.
Massive book store with cafe. You could probably purchase the books cheaper online but it's great to browse their selection and the staff are extremely friendly and approachable.
H. M.
Could spend hours in here. Lovely staff too.
P. T.
Great bookstore, loved the recommendations they put out in each section!
G. F.
The better of the two in the city centre, more choice and away from the busy arndale.
P. L.
The best bookshop in Manchester but a shadow of its former self. Ranges have been reduced and the layout is now rather bizarre. Rubbish compared to the likes of Foyles in London.
J. P. H.
Amazing collection of books and great customer service. Very helpful.
D. C.
Plenty of selection and plenty of time to browse and thumb through with no interruption. Cafe on the top floor was lovely too, great hot chocolate for the kids
S. A.
Fabulous friendly staff, we had a wonderful night on Thursday 8th of March at my nephew's book launch. The smiling man by joseph knox,
