Reviews of Arreton Barns
K.
Well worth a visit! A really unique set of shops, and a great opportunity to purchase from smaller sellers. Purchased some lovely things for the home and more. Penny Arcade is super retro, take lots of 10p pieces! Some fun and strange games to play.
Maritime Museum is £6 per person, you don’t find that out until walking all the way to it.
O. A.
This is a lovely place to visit for a day out. Especially if you are into arts and crafts, there is something for everyone. There are plenty of shops, including old fashioned sweet shops, glass hand blown on site, leather works, gift shops, Chad Powell photo shop, jewellery by Thomas Cochran ship museum and shop.
K. R.
Lovely site good mix of businesses including a glass blowing shop, silversmiths, vintage sweet shop old fashioned penny arcade and a great pub. A really good place to spend a few hours.
J. G.
Well worth a half hour if not longer stroll around, good selection of craft shops and a few outlets where food and drinks can be purchased and enjoyed from outdoor seating.
A. M.
Excellent place to get some farm produce, see some glass figures being made and get a drink and meal at The Dairymans Daughter where i had a fantastic meal today. The food there is fabulous and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Cant recommend this pub enough.
K. M.
Big range of craft shops, Maritime/Shipwreck museum, an old church and a couple of excellent old fashioned sweets shops. Also a restaurant/pub - The Dairyman's Daughter - on the same site. Free car park and all set in lovely countryside
P.
Weather was dreadful so didn't really get to enjoy all the quirky shops and museums but defo worth a stop and look around, make sure you see the craftsmen making the glass as it shows real skill 👍only a couple of pics on this one from the old arcade.
S. L.
Really enjoyed our visit.
Loved the ghost shop! Plenty of little shops with handmade products.
i.
beautiful area with wide range of small craft and confectionary shops - including handmade glass sculptures, knitted goods and toys, jewellery, sweets and more as we as vintage acrade games. thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend. interesting and enjoyable for both children and adults, and very dog-friendly too. lots to do, buy, look at and visit.
P. P.
Really interesting art and crafts. Dairymans Daughter pub/restaurant was lovely. Was surprised there were only 2 cubicles in the Ladies toilets though. Could do with more considering the number of people visiting. Good place to visit in rain or sunshine and dog friendly. Xx
R. B.
Nice pub, but what makes it is the craft shops around it. There is a lovely lady upstairs in the glass museum. Me & my daughter had a very informative conversation with her about the collection & lots more. Did spend a fair bit of cash there.
C. M.
Oh my gosh I have been to the isle of white 5 times visiting family ,im from California and this was the best place we had the fish and chips for lunch oh my gosh it was so good
C. G. E.
Had a good look round here, lots of small shops and workshops so plenty to see. We went on a wet windy day do not all were open and fir the hour between buses it was enough. Good looking bar to get some food and drink but we didn't go in so I don't know if it was as good as it promised.
H. F.
Great place to visit with a few shops including a fudge shop (great flavours we bought 4 different ones) and went to the glass makers where we bought a glass cat and commissioned another to look like our other cat. We collected them both a couple of days later and they look lovely.
R. W.
I love Arreton Barns, one of my favourite places particularly around Christmas. There are various places to explore and lovely small shops selling an eclectic mix of goods. Also there's a really nice pub offering meals from mid morning.
I could spend hours there.
W. W.
A worthwhile stopping point for seeing beautiful local crafts and a great opportunity to choose lovely gifts for friends and family.
S. T.
Fantastic breakfast with ALL the trimmings had by all eight of us. Then the missus made me spank an absolute fortune on glass objects from 'Isle of Wight Glass'. You'll love it here as there's loads to see & do, especially if you have kids but you'll go home with an empty wallet if you are not careful as there are some amazing shops here. Plenty of parking too.
P. H.
Being the only male in a group of females I have to say that I was reluctant to visit this establishment. However, I did enjoy the most of the craft shops and I actually bought a shirt which reminded me of the 70's (I'm now mid 60's). I'm very pleased with the shirt and also a bag of liquorice toffees from the confectioners.
M. H.
I have never left there empty-handed but have never visited there wanting to buy anything. The staff in all the outlets are non-pushy and you can browse to your heart's content, dangerous because that's when you see the ideal present or something you really need!! Love the place and the food in the Dairyman's daughter is wonderful.
M. K.
Very nice meal with friends, not too busy and nice that it stays open all afternoon. Friendly staff and good prices for popular dishes. Lots to explore around the craft village so it makes for a lovely day out.
H. C.
Fantastic selection of things to do here from the exhibition l, feeding the fish and lush ice-cream!
K. 1.
Visited here around 2 years ago it was just ok, now it's stunning!!! Especially Thomas P Cochran what a beautiful studio and products you have. Thank you so much for your wonderful service I cannot wait for my item. Will definitely be our place to go now.
The corn exchange is wonderful with the best Wrensdale range I have ever seen.
Glass makers so talented. Well done all.
You must visit just watch the potholes on the drive in.
M. A.
This is a great place for a day out we loved watching the glass making artists. The Dairymaid daughter is a good place to eat and drink it's looks very old and has slightly wonky floors. There's a small exhibition for children, a silver Smith workshop with unique pieces of jewellery, a leather workshop along with other shops and attractions.
The only disappointment was there were no couch parties allowed in and we had come to the Isle of Wight by couch so had to catch a bus.
B. J.
We visited on a Monday and a few of the artisans were not in residence. But those that were were interesting. But the corn exchange is very over priced. Fortunately we had checked out some prices before we went a small wooden cutting board or a large serving plate, we £20. Dearer that the one we purchased in Cowes and possibly a better quality.
All of the others shops we seemed to make purchases from. The sellers were pleasant friendly and helpful. We would certainly advise people to take a ride out to them, as it a great place to shop and investigate.
R. M.
Located in Arreton as part of the Shipwreck Museum, my favourite building is the GLASS MUSEUM with so many beautiful glass designs available, also on the day the glass furnace was giving demonstrations , there is a small fair ground area and if you like hand made leather belts this certainly will fit the bill .
The belts are custom made to ensure a great fit with the holes added on fitting. Also eatery available which I did not visit
D. P.
Lovely, pleasant atmosphere. Collection of craft outlets and a nice restaurant / bar. Also lively short walks, maritime museum and food to feed ducks!
G. W. (.
A pub, shipwreck museum and several craft outlets on one site. It's a decent pub with good food. The museum is also worth the retrace fee. Craft outlets ok, but on the expensive side, but good quality stuff. Sadly farm shop we visited in the past is no longer there.
K. B.
A fantastic place to visit. Love all the different shops and crafts on display. Especially enjoyed looking round the new Creaturama exhibition and shop which is over the Corn Exchange. Amazing work, and some lovely artwork, cards and other things to buy in the shop. Well worth a visit.
A. M.
Lots to see. Many craft sheds. Plenty of things for children to do. Visit the old church while you are there.
C. F.
I love looking round these barns. I especially like the socks, cards and drinks coasters. The glass ornaments are amazing and it's wonderful being able to see them being made.
A. F.
This is one place must visit. You can find fine glass work, local farm products, artist's...
Really nice place.
S. S.
OK for a little bimble, lake to feed the ducks, glass blowing shops, leather work shop, sweet shop, old school arcade machines.
G. B.
Plenty to see and potentially spend £s. Quality shops and good variety. Arrived a bit late in day, everything closed by about 5 (except Dairymans Daughter thankfully). Give yourselves enough time to meander around. Bought a beautiful paperweight from Sculptglass who have many outstanding glass ornaments.
D. J.
Ok to visit if you have an hour or so to spare. A couple of craft shops, a cafe, silversmith, a couple of other stalls and exhibitions and a short walk, not really an awful lot to see or do. Large free carpark and quite flat but undulating in places so those with poor mobility might find it difficult to manage. Disappointed that the farm produce shop is no longer there as that used to be the best aspect of the place in my opinion.
H. G.
From the road not overly apparent if open or not. Nice place to wander around for an hour or two. Parking is free and lots of spaces.
M. B.
Great place. Little individual shops selling unique products. Great for gift ideas, especially the leather shop where I got a fantastic personalised Christmas gift.
H. B.
What a great place! Hidden away, full of giddy shops, pub resturant and museum. Great for all the family
M.
Always nice, with plenty choice of ales and beer at the lovely pub. Parking available and interesting shops. A must for tourists.
L. B.
Very nice to wander around reasonably priced gifts
B. H.
Disappointed. Very little selection of outlets. I remember visiting a few years ago and it being very vibrant. Maybe a better destination in the summer months.
S. C.
Loved our visit, sweet shop was good 😋. And treated ourselves to a couple of items from Isle of Wight Glass....well it would have been rude not too!
D. P.
Great place to visit with loads to see and do!
M. T.
Used to be more there, now more a a local retail area. The dairymans daughter pub still superb for a meal.
B. B.
Great place to relax and wander around the many shops, the silver smiths were very helpful for my wife as she wanted a ring made and they did it whilst we were there, one chap even walked around to come and find us just to do a quick measure up on the ring before he did the final work on it.thank you for that.
The museum is a must too visit, amazing artifacts brought up from the depths of isle of wight waters and some great stories too.
Well worth a visit.
M. B.
Absolutely love this place. Had many fun times here, especially the Dairymans Daughter who have lots of events on.
J. M.
A lovely place to visit with its many craft shops including a silver smith, Isle of Wight glass studio, a photographer who produces the most lovely photographs/ pictures of all features of the island; plus a child's hand made clothing shop. There is a lovely shop selling a variety of items from leather goods to pottery and so much more, that are all ideal for gifts.
There is plenty of free parking plus a large cafe.
So much to see and enjoy in one area!
c. g.
Good site to visit with a range of little shops on site. Best way to put it is turn up and have a walk around, we saw a couple of glass blowing demonstrations, leather works, photography studio (which we went back to before going home to purchase a couple of prints). Nice looking pub on site which was unfortunately fully booked so we didn't get to have any food there.
S. M.
From mobern hand blow glass to old fashioned slot machines. Arreton Barns is one of my personal favourite places to visit on the Isle of Wight, there's something for everyone. With unique gift stores,of glass, croquet, photography, leather and silver it's a great place to do a little shopping, all of which can be finished off with a pint or in our case ice cream! Well worth a visit.
A. K.
This lovely little village as absolutely worth a visit, with quaint little shops selling souvenirs, candy, leather goods, blown glass, pagan witchcraft stuff and homeware.
There's a ship wreck museum too!
A little gem in the middle of nowhere.
Keep it a secret!
s. a.
Superb arts & crafts complex hidden away just outside Newport. Shops offering quality goods that you will not find on your average high street and in the pub / restaurant onsite is a find home cooked meals with a lot of diversity & generous portions at good prices . The whole place is well worth a visit 👍👍
J. C.
Great food, lovely shops, and some really skilled crafts people.
H. 7.
The recent move of the Farm Shop from Arreton Barns to its own venue down the road has, perhaps, done the complex a favour as it has brought a silversmiths in and refocused the purpose of the Barns fully on to arts and crafts . There is still the great pub and a sweet shop. Interesting and quirky.
N. M.
Eclectic mix of shops available. Great to support independent businesses on the island.
Watching the glass maker create a pig from scratch was great to see and the range of handmade glass items was superb.
K. G.
Great place to visit. Lots of little outlets selling unusual and handmade things. Also the Isle of Wight glass studio are here. Don't get confused with the glass studio at the lower section of the barns...this one is NOT the real one! Go up past the carp pond to the real Isle of Wight glass.
W. L.
Just brillient one of our best days out on the Island and brought some lovely gifts x
M. B.
Well worth a vist .Interesting shops and museum especially watching the glass blowing .Farm shop excellent too.Lovely island produce.
Good car parking.
Dairymans Daughter is a fine pub and tea room.
Check out the 11th century church while you are there.
G. I.
Went there intending on spending about an hour looking around. Six hours later we were still looking at the crafts and their makers. Strongly recommended. The shipwreck museum was also brilliant.
D. P.
Lovely shops with friendly owners. There is a good selection of locally made (sometimes in front of you) goods. With the shipwreck museum, pub, duck pond, penny arcade museum and shops, you can spend a pleasant day pottering round and picking up bargains.
R. E.
Something to look at before my lunch nice local shops , the glass blower is a nice guy and some great things In his little shop. Daughter loves her pink love heart
d. t.
Excellent Chicken Caesar salad with not a leaf of Rocket in sight. Big croutons, freshly cooked chicken and lashings of ginger beer...sorry, Caesar dressing. Lovely
J. R.
Only feed the ducks here, my boys love it.
D. H.
Great to watch live glass blowing and the on site pub was an unexpected bonus. Good food. Good for all ages with a fish and duck pond.
D. W.
Interesting place with lots of independent shops. Penny arcade was actually 10p arcade and a few machines not working. Great pub there though!
M. C.
Bought my wife's Christmas present in the jewelers, the silver pendant was made on the premises. Bought some unique cards in another shop too. Well worth a look
B. R.
I have been to these "craft" centres so often and been extremely disappointed as they are often selling things I can buy in normal shops.
This place is different, I thoroughly enjoyed it and even dug my hand in my wallet a couple of times 🤣. Recommended
S. B.
I had a great time and this is the best arts and craft village in the whole of the Isle of Wight I recommend visiting lots of nice things to see as well as arts and crafts they also have a museum a fish pond where you can feed the fish farm shop which sells lots of nice fresh food there was an arcade with old-fashioned machines inside witch were very interesting 10p ago I managed to win £1.50 on one of the fruit machines. There is a place where you can watch someone make things with glass and a sweet shop that sells lovely fudge
a. b.
If you're into arts and crafts this is well worth a visit, located in the centre of the Isle of Wight it is easily reached by car, not so clever by public transport Southern Vectis service 8 between Newport and Ryde does stop outside the entrance but only runs once an hour outside of the holiday season.
M. A. &. C.
Popped in a few times. Some lovely shops inc Glass Studio. Maritime Museum. Antiques & Collectables Shop etc etc and great food at the Dairymans Daughter. Will be returning
K. W.

N. B.
Have been going to this place for 3 years now and definitely think that the outlets have declined in interest and range, the farm shop is gone now.
L. P.
Wonderful craft Village only downside was no coffee and cake shop that we could see only the pub.

Love this place. A nice afternoon feeding the ducks, watching glass blowing, mooching through craft shops and buying local produce in the farm shop. Plus the added bonus of a pub that also sells really nice food . Cannot wait for the sweetcorn fayre and Halloween/fireworks night (SERIOUSLY THE BEST SWEETCORN IV EVER I HAD) I ate 3!!! Yummy ciders too
N. H.
Great place to while away a couple of hours, several very different type of shops, all with very friendly staff plus some lovely walks take your dog a must if you have one.
A. H.
Superb lunch but some shops closed when we visited which I thought was strange since its a touristy place
K. J.
Great little old fashioned games area but I thought there were too few shops that were way too expensive. Feels like the place needs a revamp.
M. J.
Quaint craft village with a variety of shops. The farmers shop sells an excellent variety of meats as well as locally sourced Jars and spreads. Definitely recommend the Jamaican jerk sausages or the lamb mint sausage... unreal. The glass shop is good, with an opportunity to watch the talented workers make their goods.
I recommend the salted caramel fudge next door if you've got a sweet tooth.
L. G.
Great place to spend a couple of hours so many different type of shop to visit

Nice little craft barns. Wasn’t as large as we remembered or expected. A nice couple of hours spent here.
I. O.
Great place to visit with the whole family. There's something there for everyone. I went there specifically for blue cheese in the Farm Shop but there are lots of little independent craft-type shops selling anything from crystals to leather products. There's an antique amusement arcade too. Well worth an hour or 2 of your time if you're near!
A. K.
Delicious food and a lovely courtyard, lots of options on the menu. Nice shops to have a look around.

L. H.
Good range of crafts and the guy called Gary does some truly incredible paintings
J. C.
I did not go in all shops so cannot comment on all aspects. I visited the shipwreck centre which is very interesting, just leave at least an hour to do it justice. The Dairymans daughter, which is very good and the sweet shop. Unfortunately the fudge that I bought was disappointing and after one taste, went in the bin.
I. W.
Some good little shops here. The pub is good with an excellent choice of ciders and ales. good home cooked meals and not overpriced and a good daily choice. No coaches allowed now as they filled the pub with non eating customers!
h.
Chips are decent n toast is alright. Drinks aren't so nice
S. J.
Nice pleasant atmosphere. Interesting. Lovely food
L. E.
Woods craft stained glass. I had a maori koru designed and made by James in honour of my daughters birthday. She passed away and I have recently moved to this wonderful island. Now I have something in my home that will always shine bright when I place it on my window xxx beautiful craftsmanship
a. s.

This is a place of many things some good some not so good. The Glass Museum was very interesting as was the shipwreck museum. The food at the pub was good and the menu is your classic pub grub.

m. w.
Lovely place to visit, something for everyone
J. S.
Loved the glass museum and the glass blowing
e. b.
An enjoyable visit. Interesting craft shops and great to see crafts people at work. Certainly worth a visit with one caveat being, the lack of toilets!! Currently the only toilets available are in "The Farmers Daughter" restaurant. You are required to queue with patrons who are waiting to get a table. Perhaps some mobile toilets would alleviate this situation
C. L.
Silverware was great. Collection of other small businesses.
V. R.
Very interesting place to visit picked up some nice gifts . A little pricey though.
R. S.
Very nice place for a lunch time meal. Service was very quick. We visited in late September. Can't vouch for the summer months.
V. M.
The best farm shop ever! The people are friendly, helpful and we always leave with a smile and the most wonderful products. Thank you Paul, Steve, Nico, Charlie and all the amazing team. :-)
C. F.
Nice little craft village with some great shops.

As we visited in the autumnal/winter months, some of their on-site workshops/outlets were shut/closed because the "holiday season" (April - October) had ended. However, they still had lots of the workshops/outlets open. There's lots of shops to choose from, unfortunately some, a tiny bit overpriced and on the expensive side. The two above reasons why I left off the last ⭐. There's a "village walk", which is very pretty, it takes you by a duck pond (plenty of friendly ducks & other waterfowl) and up to St. George's Church. Both the church and the pond are dated as far back to the doomsday records. A lovely, peaceful cemetery to walk around and lots of old gravestones. I hope that unlike other Isle of Wight tourist sites, Arreton Barns is around for a long while yet. There are also lots of parking spaces available in their on site car park!
J. C.
Amazing place to stay. Friendly staff and great food. Rooms very comfortable and reasonably priced.

Then visit the pub where good food is served with good portions at reasonable prices an all round good day out

Would have given more stars but they're predominantly insisting on mask wearing still. As i won't wear a mask i was unable to enter any of the shops and spend any of my money. Never mind.
j. f.
Great place to visit, lots of interesting things to see and do good restaurant / pub food good.
E. D.
One of my favourite places on the island. Look around the wonderful shops and stalls, eat yummy fudge or a meal from the Dairyman's Daughter. Watch the glass making or simply enjoy the village stroll and feed the ducks and fish. Quaint, yet big enough to enjoy even when busier.
J. A.
It's a great day out, there's plenty to keep the whole family interested for at least half a day. Good farm shop on site and a fairly decent pub.
s.
Fascinating little place to visit. Brilliant local craftsfolk doing what they do well and always seem ready to talk about their particular skills and craft. Really should be on people's do do list. Also huge fish in the lake as you can tell when they jump.
G. C.
Particularly enjoyed chatting to Anders Fortune about his leather goods. Great to watch him make and modify items to your own specification. Really pleased with his work and attention to detail.

This little shop is great lots of reclaimed and upcycled gifts to buy. Really worth a visit, bought a wind chime made from spoons and bits of pieces, really love it 😁
A. G.
It's worth a visit! We went for the beer festival at the Dairyman's Daughter, which was slightly disappointing since it had only 8 beers from big renowned breweries. I would have expected some small batch breweries or at least a bigger locALE selection.
That said we had a good day out watching glass sculpting and going through the artisans workshops. The vintage penny arcade is a highlight not to be missed. And the farm shop has lovely produce.
All in all a good afternoon out.
D. M.

It is nice to walk around and see all the beautiful things that have been made and sourced locally. There are also some items you can see being made, for example; you can see the glass blower at work pretty much all day, there is a fantastically talented lady making pottery lamps, figures, water features etc and there is a lady who makes wax melt images that are amazing and she is always willing to give a demonstration.
All of the people are very friendly and willing to chat to you about their craft and you can, of course, buy some wonderful products.

Well worth a visit. Lovely shops set in Arreton on the beautiful IOW. Attractions include glass blowing shops gift shops vintage cars art galleries and an old amusement coin machine room where you can use the old one arm bandits (10p a go as opposed to 1 old penny many years ago!) test your personality and many more. Took me back to my wonderful childhood holidays spent on island in the 60s and ups.

Unique pieces, quality prompt shipping and helpful staff. And don't miss the cafe - amazing food and Yorkshire-style portions. The lemon meringue pie is a revelation.
B. M.
Lived on the island all my life and now understand why I’ve never been here before.
Not sure what all the fuss is about - the glassworks was definitely the highlight but the rest was very underwhelming - it all felt very run-down and unloved.
Dairymans Daughter was expensive just for drinks and had a very limited menu, particularly after queuing to get in.
Icing on the cake was the ‘Pumpkin Picking’ - while this conjured up visions of entering the pumpkin patch and selecting our own pumpkins from the earth, it actually entailed just choosing your veg from a stack of pre-picked pumpkins, which I could’ve done at the local supermarket.
All-in-all, massively under-awed and it is unlikely that I would revisit.
A note for the guests to the island - if you are limited for time, there are definitely better places for you to spend your time and money.
g. p.
