Reviews of Stone Science
D. B.
A really lovely experience for my kids. We were lucky enough to have some time to chat to the curator and owner Mr Wilson who oozed enthusiasm and knowledge about the amazing collection here each with its own story. There is such a wide variety of crystals and fossils it's hard to know where to start. My daughter and niece were in heaven here and didn't know which direction to look first and even my son who normally concentrates his efforts on computers loved it. I would highly recommend a visit. The gift shop is also excellent and well stocked.
L. H.
A great place to visit, so much to see. If you are interested in Geology, Dinosaurs, or Crystals this is the place to visit! The museum has an amazing collection. While it's may not be an all singing and dancing modern attraction, it has old world charm and plenty of exhibits to see.
The staff and owner are lovely and the shop has an excellent choice at great prices. My daughter loved opening her geode. We will be back.
A. m.
Highly recommend a visit for anyone who has an interest in fossils, minerals, rocks and crystals.
Interior decoration is great aswell with dinosaur models and such
Bargain to get in and the gift shop isn't overpriced either
W.
What a great museum and gift shop, lovely family run place with lots of interesting local and not so local artifacts!
The owner was very kind and gave my daughter a very cool light show with UV light. Made the stones light up!
D. K.
This place is awesome if you are into dinosaurs 🦕 fossils crystals and ancient history. So much to see in one place it’s not very big but the stuff inside is amazing. The owners very knowledgeable and lovely and friendly. Reasonable price and ticket last for 2 weeks . The shop has loads to buy and if like me spent loads! 10/10 we will be back next year
W.
Fascinating place! Extremely well laid out with interesting history and exhibits from all around the world. Well worth a visit.
H. H.
Small, quirky little place. Lots of stones and crystals which my son loved. Not a full day out but ideal to spend a hour or two on a rainy afternoon.. Free entry if you return again within 2 weeks.
P.
Nice place, odeal for rainy day. Lots of information and history, cave paintings are cool. Give shop good with great quartz rocks to break, they will help you on their machine...staff so friendly
A. P.
Interesting collection of fossils and stones. Excellent gift shop with some nice unusual pieces. Knowledgeable and helpful staff really add to the experience. Fluorescent rocks are now my new hobby!
A. O.
Fantastic little museum... We've been coming for over 25 years and still love it.. So many exhibits you can easy lose 1 1/2 hours... Don't miss the cave section.. Love it..
J. K.
Extremely interesting place. My partner has returned here for years & Dave is extremely generous with his time and knowledge. Must check it out if you are nearby!
I. D.
Absolutely fascinating!
Dave was generous with his time and extensive knowledge. Some real finds in his large collection of rocks, minerals and fossils. When in the area don't miss it!
A. A.
The staff inside were incredibly lovely and so helpful with getting the rocks I wanted in the shop, and had an adorable welcome from their dog too!
A "gem" just outside of Pentraeth, definetely worth a visit.
J. R.
Glad my children took me to this little gem of a museum that I never knew existed here on Anglesey. Such an interesting and educational place to spend an hour or 2. Shame there isn't a cafe or picnic area though.
N. B.
A Geologist's playground/dream come true. An amazing collection that I'm sure would be fully appreciated by the relevant audience. Fossils that I'm sure the Natural History Museum would be proud of. Beware of the shop - too many gifts!!
S. D.
Well worth the visit. Love the fact that the owner is a Geologist(hope that's right)and this is his life passion. He and his staff are totally up for conversations and enquiries.
The shop is also amazing with a massive range of rocks for very impressive prices. Also got some great ideas of further places to visit which we did. Hope to return. Lovely people!
This is not a criticism, but this is not a fancy place. It is real. And that is part of its charm.
If you buy a ticket it lasts for two weeks. This would definitely be a place you could return to. My partner thought this was the best attraction we have seen. He would have liked to return several times.
It's great from kids! Especially little ones into dinosaurs. Every age can find it educational.
They obviously do talk as they have a room set up with seating for several people.
J. M.
Worth 6 stars. What a fun visit with Dave, a career geologist who's been collecting rocks and fossils from around the world. I'm glad I caught him and his collection while he's still with us. A Welsh national treasure ... drop by if you can.
Gift shop prices are fantastic.
d. s.
Thoroughly enjoyed the museum the range of artifacts was colossal I've never seen any thing like it .The gentleman that runs is like the David Attenborough of the stone science world he such a lovely man he`s in his 80s and still working unbelievable and still traveling . I love his passion well worth money and it has a fantastic shop for Cristal lovers .
R. C.
Absolutely loved our visit. So much to see in the shop and loads of really interesting things to see.
My mum really enjoyed getting to crack open her own geode as well.
E. s.
Discovered this place by accident..what a place..doesn't look very big from the outside, but the amount of interesting things to look at in the museum is amazing!!the staff are so friendly and helpful..and the shop..well,I really had to control myself in there..I could have bought So much more😁truly a little treasure trove this place..we loved it so much,we're going back again this week!!
S. C.
Really interesting visit today. Kids enjoyed it too. Ticketa are valid for returns within two weeks.
V. K.
This is a wonderful place to visit. Excellent knowledge from David the owner, your ticket lasts two weeks so if your on holiday in the area and have a few rainy days it's perfect and there is so much to see it's definitely worth going again
L. H.
gorgeous exhibits, friendly staff, and even friendlier dogs! everyone there knows what they're talking about, making it a fascinating and educational experience :)
L. L.
Museum as well as shop; fabulous collections of fossils and gemstones, lots of dinasaur bones and information imaginatively displayed so youngsters should also be engaged.
D. E.
Knowledgeable friendly staff. Tickets valid for 2nd visit within 2 weeks. A great place for families of all ages.
M. T.
Really enjoyable and fascinating museum. A lot of love and passion in the venture with great tours and explanations from the owner. Not polished in its presentation in part but you'd have to go a long way to see a better geological collection
J. M.
A great hidden gem *if you’ll pardon the pun* a nice little outing when it was raining and you’ll end up wanting to spend your life savings in the gift shop
S. A.
Lovely step back in time for all the family. Even able to go back with tickets as arrived an hour before closing so able to visit again free of charge.
s. c.
Absolutely amazing little shop, very reasonable prices and the owner is an absolute pleasure to talk with.
Lots of knowledge held within one building, as well as history.
I cant wait to come back over Easter to get more pretties xx
D. S.
My son loved this place. It did feel a little bit like a museum of a 1970s museum (my husband said it hasn't changed since he was a kid) but it's evident that the owners really really love all things stones. It kept us occupied for an hour or so on a rainy summers day.
J. R.
Had the most fantastic day at stone science, met great people there. It is definitely a wonderful museum to visit and possibly spend hours at quite easily buy loads of fossils crystals and history, wonderful. Thank you. The owner is just fantastic to, the knowledge this man has is unbelievable.
J. G.
Was expecting a small place - a bit tatty from the outside - but WOW - what a fantastic collection of amazing exhibits... we were there for hours....my eyes were aching from looking so much! From fossils, bones, geology of every era, crystals, rock carvings and paintings, pottery, just a cornucopia of amazingness! The owners have done a brilliant job here - it is only a small charge for a huge amount of information and an awesome array of eye-popping sparkle!
I usually avoid the shops when visiting places but felt I needed to visit this one! Bought a large lump of haematite which i carried when i went near big drops (cliff path, castle walls....!) - it worked! I did not crumple in tears.....a bit of geological magic!
F. E.
Really random place we came across from driving past. Very interesting and the older guy seemed to have good knowledge of the items. We just went in the shop and not the museum bit. Old collie dog wandering around, which wee'd up my car then lay in the shop- nice treat.. Worth a visit
B. M.
If you expect this to be the Natural History Museum, you might be disappointed. If you expect it to be a charming museum run by a gentleman with a life long passion he enjoys sharing, then you are in for a treat. Our six year old loved it! Don't trust people who rate this with a small number of stars: they are bonkers, with unrealistic expectations!!
A. M.
We sought out this place as our 6-year old was desperate to buy model dinosaurs for our holiday! We were very successful in our mission, with the bonus of finding a fabulous dinosaur puzzle, being sold from a section to raise money for the Air Ambulance.
At the Stone Science museum you will find no whistles, bells or special effects, but a small space lovingly packed with treasures. The owner, Dave Wilson, is passionate about his subject and the area, and happy to share his knowledge.
It was a great stepping stone to go on to Red Wharf Bay for fossil hunting, a paddle in the sea from the sandy beach and a drink in the Tavern on the Bay with great views.
W. B. (. W.
Charming museum. Don't let the dust and far from pristine order put you off. Loads to see, always something interesting in another nook. Children seem to love as plenty to explore and nice museum dog, Zac, to play with. Good hour or so amusement
A.
The guy was so knowledgeable. Lots of interesting rocks and artifacts. I would recommend going and having a look about. Great for children.
L. J.
Brilliant quirky informative love this place the owner and staff are very very helpful. A must go to place if you are on Anglesey.
J. W.
Great family day out and very informative. Also for collector's of mineral's and fossil's they have an excellent choice. Something to suit all pocket's.
S. B.
Small museum of rocks & fossils, knowledgeable staff, very friendly, plus seperate shop. Interesting stuff!
B. “. W. B.
This place is amazing and there is so much to see! What makes it even more incredible is that this museum is the owners personal collection built up over many years -and it seems every specimen has an interesting story. If you are interested in geology, fossils, minerals or crystal structure then definitely go! The collection within the shop is brilliant as well, so much to choose from and the owner/staff really knowledgeable about the origins and nature of the items on sale. Thank you for such a warm welcome.
o. b.
A gem of a place ran by a passionate couple. With a heavy emphasis on displays being accessible and friendly for children, it is great for kids and adults alike.
It is a labour of love and it shows through in the care and attention to detail that is provided.
Whether you have an interest in dinosaurs or geology, this is great for a rainy day. It evens has a mini cinema showing educational films!
Thank you to the owners, great visit.
N. E.
Very friendly and knowledgeable. Great passion for geology. Amazing artifacts in the museum and a huge variety of gemstones and fossils in the shop. Love coming here.
J. T.
A brilliant holiday visit. The kids loved all of it. This is not a sleek, modern "display less but make it all interactive" museum, so don't go if that's what you are after. If you want to enjoy someone's life's work, the passion and commitment of the people who have contributed and real British eccentricity then you'll love it too. Free return entry within the fortnight, easy to find, parking on site.
W. T.
Such an amazing place to visit and spend time exploring all of the exhibits. It is a real gem (No pun intended) and a boon to Anglesey. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the idiosyncratic way the museum is laid out is so much fun.
P. W.
Fantastic museum. Full of fossils, minerals, exhibits and artefacts. It feels like a lifetime's personal collection on display, but that adds to the interest. There are boxes of stuff and drawers full of papers everywhere - it's wonderful. All the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly, making a point of introducing themselves as we wandered around and then giving us information on the displays and advice on what to look at next. A thoroughly enjoyable visit.
j. r.
If you like looking at stones go here. The owner was lovely and interacted with my son
K. W.
Although looks a little tawdry the place is actually quite interesting. You can also buy fossils here and they don't charge the earth for small / medium items😀 A lot to take in and the free reentry could have been good if we had stayed longer. Definitely a good little place on a poor weather day.
a. m.
Very different hidden gemstone (pardon the pun). Well worth trip. Bit disappointed they still charge full price considering they not doin the show and educate part unless its set times. Easy to park. Dogs can go in too. Ticket lasts 2weeks so if you miss the cave or shop and you stay nearby you can always go again.
C. T.
Welcome staff worth a pit stop for a little shopping. Updated massively since my childhood.
N. G.
I popped in to get a little box of treasure for my 5 years old nephew's birthday. The gentleman was lovely and and very helpful, he baged and labelled all the little items for him and was full of information. Thank you again my nephew will be overjoyed.
S. W.
What a great little place! Went there with the family and spent a couple of hours just wondering around looking at all the amazing fossils and stones from around the world. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and even had some amazing facts and stories to tell us. Deffinately worth a visit.
L. M.
This is an absolute hidden gem! Absolutely full of awesome and interesting things and loads of information. The owners are lovely. Will definitely be going again
H. W. G. A.
Brilliant place, interesting for both kids and adults. Loads to see ranging from fossilised dinosaur poo to megladon teeth and all manner of rare minerals and Crystal's from around the world. Often the owner / collector is there to share fascinating insights to to the what, where, how and why of everything. Shop is brilliant and the kids can get things for a little as 10p up more expensive decorative items. We go a few times a year and your ticket/ receipt will get in back in as many times as you want for a whole two weeks!
E. K.
What a fab little find this place is. Only used shop but planning on coming back
D. N.
Thought it was great and never knew I was so interested abouts stones!
It's much more than just stones, it's great for kids and adults alike. Better for kids older than 4 or 5 (in my opinion), but still interest for younger ones.
A. P.
An odd little museum that will enthrall and entertain you. Rock fans especially. Ask Dave for even more insights into the exhibits.
C. G.
Brilliant best museum in Britain
A. B.
Massive collection of minerals and fossils. My son and daughter haven't stopped talking about it all holiday. It's not a big, posh museum, but makes up for it in personality and the owner is the friendliest, most fascinating man I ever met. Well worth the money just to talk to him.
H. O. 3.
Absolutely brimming With Stone's and Science. Fossils aplenty. Our 8 year old rated it best museum ever. Really friendly and helpful staff. Well worth a visit to have a dig around and you may find some hidden gems. ;-)
A. B.
Possibly the quirkiest museum / exhibition / display that we've ever been to. It is based in a rambling house and everywhere you turn are interesting rocks and fossils. I don't think that there's another place in Wales where children can hold a real piece of dinosaur poo! This is more for children and adults who already have some interest in dinosaurs, fossils or geology if you really want to get the most from your visit. The gentleman who runs Stone Science is an absolute font of knowledge and generous with it and his time. The gift shop could best be described as a chaotic Alan's cave, with many items that you won't see anywhere else.
E. J.
Came across it accidently, I absolutely loved it, didn't get an opportunity to explore upstairs due to a screaming toddler of mine, my older two girls loved it, fascinating artifacts, more than I expected, it's not a generic museum, it's a place where someone has put all their passion into to, to share with everyone, so ye it's a bit dusty but add to its rustic prehistoric character. You can buy bones and gem stones to take home with you.
Highly recommend, the guy who runs it was very friendly, the price includes a 2nd trip within two weeks, so if your Staying local you can go again at no extra cost
g. s.
Cracking little museum / collection.
A private geological collection that you can view!
Small and intimate, with LOTS to see if you take the time. Run by enthusiastic friendly people with a huge wealth of knowledge.
Kids will enjoy the challenge they can fill in to claim a prize too.
D. r.
Great place to visit. Educational for kids, and owner always ready to answer any questions you may have on rocks and fossils.
P. W.
Great for your children to visit
p.
Fantastic plase, friendly owners, very knoligable, if you can't get a gem there you won't find one anywhere, had a great time there
P. L.
Ok. A bit higgledy piggledy and not organised and dirty. No notes saying what's for sale in the museum either so not sure if anything was for sale in there. Ok if you like looking at hundreds of different rocks
M. B.
Very interesting place . Vendor so knowledgeable. The shop is a regular goldmine for all things geological. A visit os highly recommended
S.
Great place to see the world through the ages and a quiz for children enhances the experience , worth a visit if your looking for something to keep kids occupied for an hour , friendly staff and dogs allowed in.

M. R.
Very interesting.
P. R.
A lot of hard work has gone into this place, we went for the dinosaurs not the rocks, what was there was good especially the diplodocus and TRex skulls, what let it down for us was the shop was full of rocks to buy the only dinosaur merchandise was the small plastic dinosaurs so this was a big let down for my dinosaur mad 5 year old, worth visiting if you are local and looking to kill an hour
A. T. (.
Now what a brilliant place. It is not that big...... but is it is fullntonthe brim of history. It was the highlight of my Anglesey holiday.
