J. L.Such high quality service. The products are amazing (especially their sencha teas). I came here for Japanese tea ceremony items and found them! Staff were lovely, genuine and happy to help. Plus, there was an adorable dog (Dusty I think?) eager for belly rubs! What more could you ask for really?

C. B.I'm very impressed with this tea shop + tearoom. Difficult to find anywhere in the UK up to this standard. By way of selection, there is definitely something for everyone here.
As for Chinese and Japanese style teas, which are what I'm personally most interested in, I wouldn't say they have any particular types of tea they have an in-depth specialized collection of (except perhaps for a good selection of matchas), but they definitely have something to quench your thirst for any type of tea craving you might have. I didn't try or buy any of their pǔ'ěr, but it does look like their selection of authentic raw and ripe teacakes + tuóchá would be great for anyone looking to get into these types of tea, which is something that is notoriously hard to find in UK tea shops.
There was a lovely inviting pǔ'ěr tea aroma in the shop, and a tea table where a member of staff was brewing some green teas for people to sample. Had a great conversation with the staff, and it was clear that they were very enthusiastic about tea. In the end I bought some okumidori matcha, and a stem hōjicha (roasted kukicha).
I also went to the tea room, which was a lovely experience. I really like the integrated tea trays they have on every table. I had some jīnxuān oolong, which they served in a very pretty and smooth-pouring unglazed clay teapot, along with a pitcher of hot water. This definitely works well, and gives a far more enjoyable tea experience than you're ever likely to get in any other cafe, tearoom, or restaurant in the area that serves tea. If I could give some suggestions for what I'd like to see: perhaps a slightly more specialised tea set, with a tea pitcher (gōngdàobēi), smaller teacups, and a fine mesh strainer. Also insulated flasks are good for storing hot water for re-steeping the leaves so it doesn't end up too cold. Also I do think a higher proportion of leaf in the pot would have been nice, to get some more strong steeps out of the session.
Really glad I visited, and this is definitely somewhere I'd like to go again whenever I next go to York. I hope this shop helps bring more people into the world of good tea.
A. M.A small place with a huge selection of teas. Seating is a wail able and comfortable and it’s cheaper than most coffee shops as well as more charming. The staff member present was pleasant and knowledgeable and the background music was low-key and unobtrusive.
F. B.Very wide selection of teas including one of my favourite fermented red teas, pu'er. Also picked up a delicious and comforting lapacho with vanilla and orange. Probably the best tea store I've ever been to (and I am quite a fan), but the shop itself is lovely to pop in to just to appreciate for its environment with two floors including a basement section. We were very happy to try samples of hot tea on display in the front window too.
T. B.Interesting place for tea afficinados. Vast selection of teas but, we really wanted coffee and got cafetierre each, lovely smooth, fairly rich flavour. The cakes were unbelievably good, home made and not overly sweet so perfect complement to the delicious toppings. Lovely helpful staff, really glad we stayed.

The quality is great - all teas keep their aromas and flavours for along time. The shop is very cosy and staff are great. They have online shop too, but if you get a chance - visit in person to look at the whole selection of teas and smell them.

It is not very big inside but it has a very large range of teas and infusions. The first time I went there I did not realize there was so many different types of tea.
Good advice is given by the friendly staff as to what tea to buy. The price charged for the teas they sell is very reasonable.
If you like exotic teas and are in York this shop is must to pay a visit.
I. D.A great variety of finely blended teas. I'm very much a fan of black tea but the caffeine free, fruit and other tea options were gorgeous.
The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and when I'm in York again I'll definitely return for more.
R. W.Very small shop, but that's somewhat part of the charm of the shop. I love that they have heated tea outside their window all day so you can try various flavours and temp yourself into buying another bag.
Hebden does loose, flowering and nest tea (the ONLY shop I have found in yorkshire that actually does flowering tea) - none of which I have seen to be branded. They procure it and package it all themselves. The environment in the shop is great, and you feel you can really relax and look around the enormous, and I mean enormous, amount of tea to select from. If you ever need help, the staff are attentive and know their stuff stupidly well, and they can almost always point you to a select thing or explain something. Amongst this wonderful staff is possibly the best tea expert I've even known, the owner. If you have any questions, he's possibly the best and most detailed person you could ask, and I've never been left with questions when I ask things.
The shop has a brilliant stock, as well. My brother cannot handle caffeine very well, making his choice in tea limited. Not here - he came out with at least 6 bags and a very happy face.
Alongside it's tea, it sells tea strainers and lovely teapots and tea sets, with tea-warmers. The glass teapot and some blooming jasmine tea really impresses guests. Including this, they have green tea paste, a tea whisk and the bowls to prepare it, which is really, really neat.
Possibly the best tea place I have been or ever will go to - move out the way Betty's.
S. L. H.Fantastic tea shop, lots and lots of great teas to choose from, and you can sample most of them. Best of all, choose a tea, and get it as a take away, lasts all day if you reuse the bag. My favourite so far is the Chinese green sencha tea but I try a different one every week.
J. M.This shop is amazing, I mean absolutely beautiful and the smell of the tea is heavenly. I went in there to ask if I can take a 360 photograph inside to put on here, and discovered that it's a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, where they have a serving hatch to test the tea from the street. There are 3 little sections upstairs, and a downstairs floor in the basement with more sections. They have crammed a lot of interesting details into this lovely historic building. I would recommend anyone visit this location, whether you buy tea or not it's worth it for the experience.
