Reviews of Harpur Shopping Centre
B. R.
Although it is a very standard shopping centre in terms of shops, it's always clean, fairly spacious and easy to navigate. It's not going to set the world on fire if you're used to the centre in Milton Keynes or some of the places in London, but it will serve you well enough. It's a handy thing to have.
S. B.
It's a fairly standard shopping centre with no stand out facilities, but it's clean, well lit, plenty of staff roaming round and a good selection of stores. Spacious enough but not much seating around, so expect to leave the centre if you're looking to rest weary feet. Nice and modern though.
J. L.
Well laid out shopping centre, enjoyed my time there. Car park entrance blends with the actual centre, so protected from adverse weather. Other shops outside of actual centre also. They also have toilets.
R. D. (.
Harper shopping centre was clean and friendly, not to busy. More people shopped outside in the street market. It was a hot day too, this area of town is for pedestrian only. Give Bedford Town a visit you won't be disappointed.

Only used this as a walkthrough. So took in the sights of Bedford. Some tidy areas, some not, but it does look like they are regenerating the town centre. It should look great once completed and all the scaffolding and footpaths/roads are restored.
B. K.
There's plenty to keep you occupied here at the Harpur Centre, including Starbucks, Greggs, T K Maxx, Primark, New Look, Specsavers and a Pandora outlet, in addition to some independently operated cafés, oriental food outlets, a 99p store and some pop up services for eyebrow threading and nail treatments. There used to be an epic spiral ramp leading to the lower levels of W H Smith and the gym group there, but they replaced it with bog standard staircase and a disabled access elevator. Functional, but no character! 🤷♂️ the toilets at ground level are pretty grim here too, but hopefully the work on the basement toilets is due to be completed soon and will be much better.
Still, as a mainstay of High Street retail outlets here in Bedford, the old place is still pretty cool.

Newly opened Zaza cafe- opposite main entrance to Harpur Centre - absolutely stunning decor- spacious, with vast variety of choices for drinks, desserts and sandwiches. Staff courteous - dealt with my mistaken order promptly. Place quite busy around 10.30am on a Tuesday.
K. W.
On my last visit I was disappointed about the shopping area due to both toilet areas being out of use. The main one which has been out of use for about two years I was told will not be repaired until next year.
B. T.
Great little shopping centre, nice for getting out of the rain, it has back doors to a lot of the Main Street shops, so you can nip in and out of them.
One a corner inside is a Starbucks, it was clean and empty when we visited, so go served straight away. It did start to fill up around lunch time, but I notice the staff kept well on top of the queue and people were sat down in no time.
The range of coffees and cold drinks is extensive, as is the range of cakes, even something for the little ones.
The shop was clean and the staff polite.
A great find, as it’s not mentioned on Google maps at all.
P. G.
Brilliant shop great to have a shop like this in Bedford town centre BUT not enough tills open I counted 8 people in front of me at the one only till! The staff are really helpful loads of them stacking shelves and helpful in telling me where I could find stuff. Perhaps the management should take note.
D. T.
Living locally to the town centre we visit quite often. The kids love the frequent visitors of characters and entertainment. Nice selection of shops and always kept clean inside the center.
F.
Amazing place, the shops have great items and there are many places to go to
D. K.
Loved every second of my experience here. The culture, the atmosphere and the patriotic drive of the community added a special touch to my long awaited visit to this shopping centre.
C. W.
A fantastic shopping centre with a nice variety of shops and also the gym in the basement.
Nice and clean, nice decor
Friendly team of staff
They always find amazing ways of reaching to the community/engaging with local groups and businesses etc, through events, activities etc
A. '. D. T. D.
The mobile phone killer of shopping centres. Clean. Tidy. Receptionless. So it's an idea to say goodbye or see you soon to whomever you're on the phone to before walking in.
Stores like Gregg's. Primark, Timpsons, all exist here. Some have inside and outside access (Primark is one such shop and often used as a throughway}
A. L.
Clean, quite a selection of good and one of shops, local to town centre, Howard's coffee shop in shopping centre does the best coffee, forget Starbucks, go to Howard's instead
J. H.
Recent renovations have made the centre cleaner and brighter, but at the cost of some of its character. There are a number of good shops, places to eat, and a great gym. Still, it just isn't as large as the shopping centre at nearby Milton Keynes and so can't match it for choice.
S. D.
Nice, clean centre. Unfortunately there's not enough variety of shops to entice regular visits.
B. J.
Lovely centre always clean and tidy when I've visited! great range of shops and Harpur’s Kids Club is great for the little ones too
L. H.
Many shops under cover so okay if it rains.
Good variety and plenty to see.
M. N.
My goodness !! What has happened to this once happy shopping experience to many same old same old repeat shops this used to be the place to shop with choice and quality it seems to match the whole non shopping experience where have all the big names gone 🤔
M. M.
Perfect, check it and you won't regret it. Tk Max has nice offers, the atmosphere is calm and people are nice. Lovely store, has a lot to offer.
C. W.
Small/medium sized shopping centre. Over the years it has changed with the rise in online shopping. But there is still a few good shops left to visit.
C. K.
Discovered this little place on a recent visit to Bedford, lovely airy feel to it from a the glass roof as you walk through the arcade and a great variety of affordable shops and food outlets
R. C.
It is a very lovely place with great shops and toilet access
s. “. l.
Visted on a Saturday afternoon very busy carpark free but hard to find a nice spot to park!!
Heard a few scraps as some cars hit the curbs and ramps. Overall we enjoyed the experience
A. P.
Nice local shopping center with all your usual shops.
M. J. H.
Easy access, great parking, plus a wide range of shops both premium and discount.
M. S.
Harpur centre is a fantastic shopping centre with great shops. It also works to support community events, organisations and charities and is part of the fabric and heat of the town.
D. C.
Good location and retail outlet selection. The centre was clean and worth a visit if in the area
P. R.
Feels a little dated in places but it's a nice enough little shopping centre. Nothing to write home about but it does it's job
K. C.
Lots to see and do at the centre and it's always really clean and tidy. Really enjoy visiting there :)
l. m.
The harpur centre is epic. My friends and I love going shopping after college. There are great shops such as greggs and primark😁😁😁 love it
J. L.
Nice, clean shopping centre with a carpark and good variety of shops and places to eat.Great experience.
S. G.
Bedford Town Centre is a sad place to visit now. Lack of diversity and department stores. Nowhere to browse unless you're a Primark or B&M fan. The relatively new toilets in the H. Centre are still not open and the old ones are non too pleasant.
It's a shame because the riverside is a beautiful place to visit.
A. S.
Great place for shopping with family. Good quality food and places for kids too. 🌺🌸🌺🌸🌺🌸🌺🌸
C. C.
It's amazing how many specialist shops you'll find here. There is also a very nice café, nail and beauty place, bubble tea even a public toilet with baby changing facilities.
K. R.
Good range of shops in the centre of town with car parking
b. C.
This shopping centre has been going downhill for years from the alcoholics and crackers sat outside near the library to the vacant shops that will never be used again
D. W.
Toilets are horrendous. Shopping centre has potential - needs a bit of smartening up!
S. P.
Harper centre is getting a re-vamp & it has that fresh feeling about it. Looks like it's getting a Starbucks & a lift to a lower level. Things are changing, for the better.
C. T.
Lovely little shopping center , never had any issues here :)
k. w.
Had plenty to do in there and was large enough so spend some time in. Very clean and modern
N. B.
I love come to The Harper shopping centre especially to go to Starbucks shop and have a look around this well
M. S.
kinda doodoo but it's got the stuff you'll need ig
m. m.
Great shopping lovely restuarants and amazing things to do!
J. R.
Watching bedford nose dive into oblivion is sad, there's a few nice shops in the harpur centre but not much else
V. H.
Good variety of shops all under cover
J. G.
Services excellent...cordial.. courteous... product was expensive that I purchased tho'!!! .... nothing negative to say... except the above...
N. H.
My early memories of the Harpur Centre were of it being bright vibrant place to go now it is a depressing shady soulless place. Does it need to be so dark? Could there not be at least some music playing? I appreciate that the town has lost many of it's shops but the empty units need to be used for something even if it is just displays of local children's artwork or such like. The car parking is expensive and the use of tokens a ridiculous idea, easily lost and not hygenic at all at anytime!
G.
Was OK...got a bit fed up being stopped by the charity collectors Didn't think they were allowed to block your path ? Other than that was clean but rather empty
J. D.
A nice big primark good for a town thats lost all its shops
D. O.
Variety of different shops, with a few different food places and a well staffed starbucks
N. K.
i went to harpur centre to get birthday cards and centre was clean and spotless.
S. Y.
Went to get my waxing done, so dropped by greggs for cheese and onion pasties. Really good. Also got other bits and bobs for house hold.
L. I.
Very nice place for shopping 😜
R. B.
Lovely shopping experience through a clean shopping mall.
T. W.
If your preference is to have homeless addicts at each end, asking for money and looking incredibly sad, you're in the right place. A kind word won't go amiss. Be careful tho, it might break there hearts. Shops are very pleasant with a unique atmosphere.
O. S.
They really are improving Bedford just as planned and with the new bus station and all the great improvements in the Harper Centre it's looking ten times better than before already and only going to keep improving as they already have good food like home cooked meals and a wide variety of different stores. If you don't know Bedford then you should come check it out and give it a look for yourself and I don't think you will leave disappointed trust me on that one!
W. H.
Good food but a big of a que
D. S. M.
Good shops, free parking on Sundays!
T. W.
Lovely place to find what your looking for
U. A.
Plenty of shops for Town size of bedford, hard to find parking on weekends.
S. R.
Shopping centres not my thing, had a coffee at Starbucks whilst waiting for an appointment at Spec savers.
s. j.
Nice place for shoping and coffee time with friends 👍
D. W.
Bedford town centre is going down hill fast. The Harpur centre is not too bad, although the stores are not very enticing. However the immediate area has declined dramatically. Closed shops, untidy streets, a general air of neglect.
G. M.
Plenty of parking ..reasonably quiet in centre ...Vision Express was my main reason for being there.. bonus old fashioned sweety man was also there so stocked up on their gorgeous fudge..
a. “. h.
Visited for the first time in a few years, not as nice as it used to be.
D. W.
Harpurs shopping center is good enough for its purposes. It has a fair range of good shops, good parking and decent toilets. It has been abit empty I'm my places and can feel abit cramped at times. Overall would recommend paying a visit for most shopping requirements.
S. A.
Lovely play to get bubble tea, a good Primark and my favorite organic food store! Would recommend as it's quiter than most shopping centres if you are looking for a select few shops to browse in.
J. P.
It's okay lots of shops to choose from and we quite a few reasonable variety of places to eat in
I. A. D.
A good place to walk around without being questioned to put on my mask. Usually the security wouldn't let me in without wearing mask. I am tired having mask on since pandemic is over and lockdown is eased. Others can put on masks but I shall not. I am a man of faith and masks is only those who are scared but am not. That's all to say.
B. Q.
Good variety of shops, can get just about everything needed.
It looks fresh and clean
r. b.
Not much variety but it's cute, given a revamp recently too. Shame lots of shops are closing down.
T. A.
Good arrangement shops clean excess
w. t.
Small but nice place in city centre. Not modern one but good for people living around Bedford. Have some brand stores as well as some local ones. Its covering local people's requirements. Always clean n tidy. Good security. Have big parking, toilet facilities lift etc.
M. E. B.
Clean place. Clean toilets. Varying shops from food to clothes etc.
Z. N.
It’s nice and quiet place, good for ordinary shopping
Z. S.
Great shopping centre for everyone.
E. N.
Very clean and fresh since up grade. Very few people around on Tuesday. With so many shops closed down in Bedford Town centre, I don't know if people are going eles where. Such a shame for Bedford.
P. C.
Small but perfectly formed. It could do with filling some more of it's units, but it is clean and welcoming after the recent refurbishment. Simple and effective one way system in place for Corona virus distancing.
S. B. (. A.
Always clean, not too crowded and one way system currently in use. Good variety of shops to choose from.
J. A.
Nice and bright. Toilets downstairs are really good. Great mix of shops, something for everyone. Shame some of the seats seem to have disappeared from the walkway towards the lifts!!
L. R.
Very clean, security ensuring people wear masks, ensuring there is no loitering, one way system, actually works really well shame people cant follow this. Also entetry by foot is one way, again shame people cant read english. Shops weren't crowded and questioned were ok, moving along.
m. b.
To say its had a redevelopment the toilet situation is disgusting the temporary one are not fit for use, what do you expect, well I expect to be able to use a toilet that's clean and doesn't stink
D. S.
Seemed a reasonable shopping centre
O. B.
Nice place to shop but the security guards walk round like the mafia a bit confrontational looking and wearing no masks when in it’s mandatory
B. S.
So disheartening, this is my birth town and everything shutdown, no longer the vibrant hubbub i knew and loved. This pandemic has affected every aspect of life. Let's hope and pray we get to get through it, a little battered and bruised but enough to be able tobcelebrate a new normal.
B. T.
Great shopping centre best I can ask for in my area with one of the best shops in Bedford called electronex the absolute best shop when it comes to repairing stuff always reliable and really cheap really recommend if your device has issues or needs something for it very cheap and good
M. N.
Bedford is a pretty great place to raise kids. But once your old enough (I.e 18) move to a place with greater opportunities for young people.
J. O.
It's a great place to go out with your friends or shopping with your family as they have so many options to choose from, the River ouse is close by and it's nice to sit there aswell. The only thing I might add is we should get an arcade do children can play in there and have fun it would keep kids out of trouble.
C. O.
Variety of needful shops everywhere
A. F.
Lot's of nearby parking, good location
D. Q.
Not bad underground parking is good
r. 3.
Alright little shopping center. Not much as it's quite small but it's clean and has great access cause it's on the town center. Best place to park is River Street. Don't bother with Harper center car park cause it's tiny and you often have to queue to get in.
M. H.
Nice and clean with the usual range of shops.
I. D.
Definitely one of the better shopping centres, maybe I'm bias as I lived local! Has everything you could need.
D. L.
Fab range of shops. Anything and everything you would want can be found here. There are two items that are a bit thin on the ground, men's clothing if your not a traditional fashion follower and kids toys if your child is above 5. This should not stop you using this shopping centre though as parking is very reasonable and is direct into the centre so no outdoor walks in awful weather and there are a wide variety of shops and is kept in a very clean state. Toilets in need of an update and more of them as there does always seem to be a line to use them.
T. J.
Always clean, today y and pleasant when I visit.
s. H.
It's nice clean and social distancing very good, somebody moved the toilets quite a small shopping centre so found them, they can't make up their mind where to put them 3rd time been moved probably more!
C. M.
It's a good shopping centre, I'm not sure what more to say. Had a great range of stores.
T. D.
The Harper Centre is perfectly serviceable, there is an okay selection of shops that's really improved by the fact it's completely in Bedford town centre. However there isn't an over abundance of parking, and the car park shuts quite early. Which wouldn't be a problem, but it's the only car park this end of town that doesn't get you stuck in the one-way system so is very popular.
C.
Great shopping centre ..I used to go to school here when it was Bedford Modern School....good shopping centre with nice shops ..open for business still
M. O.
Unfortunately not what it once was. The quality of shops isn't good.
M. C.
Whilst Bedford as a whole is losing shops faster than I am losing my marbles, the Harper Centre continues to be well maintained and fairly busy with a good range of shops. It's warm and well-lit as well as clean with adequate toilet facilities. Worth a trip if you're looking for a bit of retail therapy.
i. B.
Pretty dodgy mall and u still can't call it a shopping centre, even if works they done to it arent bad !
The brand new Starbucks, playing ping pong area and downstairs bringing to new toilets and parking look good, now all left to do is make it perhaps more bright and colourful. Again not too bad for Bedford!
If not enough shops for u, they're spread around the outside too as if u go out ull end up on the square.
The mall is accessible on 4 different sides and also got gym, don't get lost!
Security always around, no idea what they doing though.
Yep is clean, but u feel cold here and lack of atmosphere!
C. G.
Some good shops all conveniently placed. Clean environment. There was a fire alarm and we were evacuated quickly and efficiently. The only complaint I have was the hassle you get at the centre bit where the ramp is, over bearing sales reps giving you grief. I'm there to shop, please leave me alone.
Good facilities, toilets were clean and I didn't mind using them. Excellent parking, 2 hours free on Saturdays which is brilliant!
Greggs and Primark are my favourite shops.
D. F.
Very good in the card factory get what you want or if you can't find what you want they will show you if they have got it 👍👍
N. B.
This shopping cente is ok but falling behind compared to places like Milton Keynes. Hopefully with the new revamp it will be really nice. Also please beware there is NO areas to privately breastfeed, my partner had to do it in a disabled toilet.
D. S.
Its quite handy in the centre of town walk straight from the parking into a decent range of shops. Particularly liked the entrance where the florists are as has a beautiful vaulted stone ceiling. Look out for the owls. The florist sells venus fly traps and other carnivorous plants !
D. C.
The car park exit could be very confusing as they have now changed the route out into the town centre. You are first met with a bus lane, also the actual exit out past the barriers is not user friendly as you can have 2 cars trying to get out through the barriers into one lane a a stream of buses coming of course all at once because buses never come one at a time.
Shopping is easy inside the centre. Lifts usually working. Level flooring makes it user friendly for disabled. Plenty of cafe's. Good selection of shops. It's not huge but an easy few hours could be spent there and the town centre is just outside.
G. M.
Nice variety of shops, and clean everywhere. Mens toilets need some attention though. No paper dirty smell and most of the taps are broken but do work.
K. G.
A range of stores here including primark boots and new look. It's currently being renovated and so far very limited restriction and effect of shopping. It's clean and looks great when decorated for Christmas
M. H.
The mall is on one floor. It has 3 or 4 entrances to go in and out of the mall. Two of them leading to the town square. No free parking but multi storied paid parking is available. It has some 100 shops, but many shops are now closed. Has wheel chair access and public toilets at two different places. If you are new to Bedford, definitely worth a visit.
T. A. -. F. L.
The only shopping mall in Bedford. Not too big, not too fancy but it provides the necessities for Bedfordians. Apart from the basic shops (coffee shops, clothing stores, phone shops, book stores, etc) there are an independent Italian shop & Chinese/east asian shop. Thumbs up for the feeling safety (good security), brightness & cleanliness.
W. H.
Clean shopping centre, was dragged there by woman lol
D. G.
Regular shopping centre. Central location. Chinese shop was good.
r. y.
Has just about everything I could need when I go shopping I'm glad to see new shops are moving in
A. C.
Great shopping area with a good mix of both indoor and outdoor shops. Lots of places to park; plus on Saturdays you get 2 hours free parking and on Sundays parking is free all day, in all council owned car parks.
V. T.
1st time back at the shopping centre after the lockdown, and have seen quite a few changes, still not what it used to be when it 1st opened, can't say that i won't be back as it's the nearest shopping centre to me
L. a.
Lovely shopping centre brought a bag in rhino luggage shop very nice selection of bags and purses lovely iranien guy !!
D.
Whilst there's a decent selection of shops in and around the Harpur Centre and it's clean and pleasant inside, there is a feeling that time has stood still in the 90's.
Hoping the new Riverside development brings some much needed new clients and an opportunity to move the whole area up market.
J. B.
It's the first timeI've been there and I was only there long enough to have a cup of tea, hence only 3 stars! From what I could see, the place was nice, bright and clean with a good variety of shops.
A. D.
Of being covid-19 and the fact that people have to keep their distance. Harpur centre now has a really nice way to do that, its always clean( no sweet wrappers on the floor), and many different staff around if there is anything you would need help with they are there for you.
D. L.
Every time I visit relatives in Bedford, I like to at least walk around for fresh air and a bit of a window shop.
This shopping centre is about the same size as the Galleries in Bristol with a similar range of shops, so in that case it's like many city centre shopping developments up and down the country. About a dozen chain shops, about a dozen independent shops, and a small food court/eating area.
Even so because it's not Bristol, there is the novelty factor of somewhere new/different. So for that reason I like this place.
m. j.
Very clean and tidy, plenty of shops , owners attacting the right retailers
D. T. S.
Nice small mall, must have more shops and outlets. Good outside experience
p.
I love Harpur Center. It's the best way to connect many shops. The new roof and lights are so good. The new toilets are clean. It's useful the new fountain near toilet area
D. R.
It has recently had a revamp and is looking very modern. Its a shame that there are a few empty units, however they have filled one with a free soft play for toddlers and another with a table tennis room. There is a boots, timex, newlook, pandora, Greg's, Warren james, and many more shops
A. M.
Slightly run down in places but its had a few facelifts over the years. Underground parking and wheelchair accessible with a wide range of high street shops and a few cafes inside.
A. T.
Harper center has literally every item you could want or need , plus they got Starbucks now which is even better, personally I totally love because it connects all the stores that I love to shop and it makes easier to get around the town stores plus it in the middle of town area, I literally love to shop for clothes and I can go so many shops in one place so I really loveeee this Harper center!!
J. V.
It's a bit aged. Your more common drops not here but those thar are you will find friendly and helpful.
D. L.
Great variety of shops, all communal areas are keep in great condition except that toilets are not fab here. The ones at the bottom of the spiral could do with a good scrub and an update. The ones on the upper floor are lacking in number so queuing is always likely. Clean nice car park so you don't need to go out doors in bad weather.
There are plenty of stores but definitely lacking in toy shops for the kids only an argos and a small selection in tkmaxx.
On the whole you can get pretty much anything you could want though.
M. L.
Nice, clean and good shops
S. M.
Harpur centre is having a lot invested into it but not many good shops in there or in town really. All closing down one after the other recently :/
S. J.
It is the central shopping centre in Bedford. You can find several brands here. Very close to the central bus station. There are also some restaurants and coffee shops here. But you can find better qualities outside the shopping centre. I couldn't find a charge box for my phone there !
N. l. P.
Love it you must visit the Harper centre .
It's a nice place all you need really for a few hours out shopping and surrounded by loads of cafes
So you can choose . Which is more convenient for your family
Even toilets there very clean
I know the ckearner Ken has a happy outgoing person so hel make your day
L. L.
Looks like a really nice modernised shopping centre. I've given it a 4 as it has a Starbucks and M & S (although I have heard that's closing! Which would be a pity and nearest will be in MK!)
I went on a wet and windy Sunday it wasn't too busy and didn't seem to have any beggars or unsavory types loitering. But I wasn't able to walk around as much as I normally do because of my little 'un. Will defo go again - during the week though.
N. S.
All shops seem to be open with sanitiser available throughout the centre. There is a one way system in place to try and minimise close face to face contact
K. W.
Plenty of shops and eating places
l. b.
Lovely shopping centre . lots different shops .toilets lovely and clean .and staff all happy to help .
M. P.
Good selection of independents, just passing through on way to car park lifts.
L. V.
It is an amazing place. I love to go shopping there, hang out with friends or even get a couple errands done. It has so many shops, such as: Poundland, New Look, Yours, Primark, Supercuts, Claires, Greggs and even an Ann Summers!
S. A.
They have a tiny Chinese supermarket with a brilliant service. So kind so helpful. I love it.
They also have nails salon.... Greggs.... TKMax....
A. F.
Soulless parade of dying retail outlets. Got rid of the spiral in the middle to be replaced by a blind designers "vision" in glass and chrome that looks absolutely nothing like the rest of the interior, usually swamped by "market" vendors selling cheap mobile accessories or other tat. Go to the High Street or other shopping arcades.
I. C.
Best sausage rolls but my favourite fresh cream doughnuts are missing 😭
y. c.
The only shopping mall in Bedford central
J. H.
When I first went 30 year's ago it was new .Today its long always busy many shops and restaurants in fact with such good parking you can easily spend the whole
A. O.
It is an okay shopping centre but nothing special. Has Poundland, Primark, TKMaxx and a few other places. It could do with more lively lighting as it looks quite unloved. Parking is almost always full.
A. B.
Nice shopping centre that my mum and i came across by accident. We are not local and were in Bedford for a kayak race. We had an hour or so to kill and it was very very hot so we decided to walk around the shops just behind the river.
We saw a back entrance to the centre and went in. Just seemed like a couple of shops them it opened out into lots of shops.
We went into Poundland and Primark then had a coffee. We didn't walk around all of the centre because we didn't have long do no idea how many levels there were but what we saw we liked.

Relatively small shopping centre, mainly primark tkmaxx and new look. Big selection of shoes in New Look. Beauty salon downstairs (eyebrows and nails) is very well priced, efficient and always friendly. Definitely recommend.
P. W.
Not a very big shopping centre compared to most towns if you looking for more choice I would go else where
D. C.
First time back in years and it looks tired.. Same shops all looking tired.. I would have thought the centre would have done a refit to match the shiny new cinema complex accross the road and pull some trade over
M. J.
Sadly due to Covid a lot of shops were shut. I visited Specsavers which were brilliant; and also The Grape Tree which was good. Also shopped in WH Smiths which was very good.
D. W.
Old and dated, but ok
T. P.
Nice shopping centre
A. F.
As a whole the shopping centre is grim, but there are a couple of treasures.
h. p.
Lovely and clean not overcrowded some decent shops too
R. B.
A lovely shopping centre with a wide rang of stores and places for a simple snack or a quick meal. It is one of the more attractive shopping centres in the area and with relatively cheap basement level parking it makes the shopping centre very ey to get in and out of quickly
J. M.
You can find all the shopping items in several shops here. Also plenty of parking space available.
D. C.
Very good here, and you can get most things you need.
P. B.
The Harper centre is great, I don't live in Bedford and only go there to look after my Grandson, so don't know the centre that well but it's a good place to shop so is the fruit market, lots of nice fresh stuff there, give it a try you will like it !
j. r.
Well organised for shoppers with arrows to indicate direction of walking and people to remind us, and hand cleanser available.
P. Y.
A lot of the shops are empty. They have a large selection of BIG retail shops I.e. ARGOS , BOOTS , PRIMARK, POUNDLAND , TOP SHOP , Loads of top name Jewellery shops, SPECSAVERS , MOBILE PHONE SHOPS. You would be surprised to see how many good shops there are in one place. Well worth a look.
J. B.
Very good place for all business, just only Bedford Borough Council lived still in 1970 and ask expensiv rent or bussines rent, good morning BBC is 2017 and finance world crisis coming two years time. Or good night........?
S. G.
Great shopping centre, especially since the renovation a few years back.
M. C.
not bad for shopping but lots of shops are closing down fast nice little soft play area parking is ok 3 multi story cars parks in town
M. G.
Lovely place, lot of shops, café, pharmacy,etc...
R. B.
Lots of great shops
M. C.
The harpur shopping centre is starting to look nicer, the only bad thing I can say is there needs more baby changing facility and should have a baby feeding place, not all mum's are confident in feeding in public. there is one place in Bedford you can feed privately.
N. k.
A decent shopping centre with a good selection of stores but pales in comparison to 'The Centre MK'.
Currently houses a Boots, Superdrug, 2 jewellers, TK Max, Primark, Argos, Fragrace Store and a collection of other small stores, stalls and places serving food.
C. M.
Variety of shops all under cover. Park in the car park for easy access which is also close to town
c. d.
This place was okay before but now I think the flame is gone. 😔
F. P.
Ok not a lot of shops left now such a shame
M. W. O.
The Harpur Shopping Centre is a good place to go in Bedford. From Starbucks to Boots to TK Maxx and many more local privately owned shops there is a diverse range of options to choose from when you get here. A new gym has opened down the stairs which adds a new breed of options and has very easy access from the pedestrian high street and Horne Lane (by Vue Cinema).
S. A.
I love the centre just because I love Greggs margarita pizza 10/10 and the bubble drink bussin tho
K. R. J. W.
It's OK but if the lift isn't working & you've got heavy shopping or mobility issues, then you're gonna have issues if you need the toilet or access to the parking facilities
A. L.
Inside shopping centre in the town it contains a few shops boot Pandora primark claires phone shops card shop superdrug boots etc toilet on the ground floor and car park at the end of the shopping centre
C. C.
Best Rocky Road and Mint Aero cake we've had! Friendly staff too!
v.
It's okay but not many top notch places to shop around and spend your hard earned cash. I like it don't get me wrong but for bigger named stores you have to head out of town to the Bedford Interchange or Milton Keynes. It does have TKMAX, Argos, Boots, Topman and Specsavers and other small name boutique brands, as well as cafés and a Primark. Oh, and the usual phone stores (3 and Vodafone) and an Ann Summers if you like that sort of thing! And a Pound Land...
J. P.
It's one of the best shopping place's to visit in Bedford town centre
T. B.
Love the new refurb! Looks very modern. Very easy to get around with my small children in tow and the changing facilities are great.
R. H.
A bit grotty. Plenty of burkas and lowlifes here. Some half decent shops, but avoid Boots, because their customer service is awful at this branch. Honestly, best avoided.
l. b. s.
The harpur centre is a covered mall with many shops and cafés within the main centre with a multistory carpark giving you accsess via a lift or stairs to the main retail area and town centre the carpark is ANPR CAMARA CONTROLED with a disc issued on entry two hours free on saturday £5 if you lose the disc + parking time machines are at the entrance by the lifts disabaled parking spaces are on the lower floors and are free to use by blue badge holders.
J. P.
Not many shops in the center, only stayed for 3 hours in Bedford, mostly at the pictures. Charged £5.00 in the car park, bit expensive I think. After picking up my son from work we were going to eat near the cinema, but after paying so much for parking once I didn't fancy paying same again so went to Harvester who have free parking. Shame
H. H.
Although it's offers a variety of shop good parking and well located toilets I feel like Harpur Shopping Centre is very dated and could do with a bit of tartin up.
K. J.
Building work on going, parking ok. Toilets smelly/dirty. Shops include, Boots, WH Smith, Argos, specsavers,Anne Summers, card shops. It's ok but nothing special.
F. F.
Dismal.....not even Argos has survived ... Huge opportunity for boutique clothes, art & craft etc Bedford town centre has currently little going for it....
D. G.
Nice selection of shops. Feels a bit cramped and out of touch.
Typical 60s shopping centre. Could do with a revamp.
Is a bit like the old St. James shopping centre in Edinburgh.
H. W.
Reasonable selection of shops. Public free toilets. Not a vast range of eating places. Most just rough and ready.
V. R.
Good for small range of mainstream shops but lift out of order -again- and new toilets still closed. Old toilets clean but over busy and stink
T. G. P. F.
Fairly small shopping centre, nothing wrong with it, but I think I've only ever shopped in 2 maybe 3 of there shops. If TK Max wasn't in there I wouldn't ever step foot in the place.
C. S.
Very good
C. O.
A bit old fashioned for a shopping mall but in keeping with Bedford, good social distancing measure & nice barriers ... They've made an effort
M. D.
Not a massive shopping centre so there is a limited choice but Argos is one of their clients. Also provides access to New Look. Direct parking facilities are available.
E. L.
Would have given 5 stars but since the new lift replaced the spiral staircase down to the lower level, two great cafes have disappeared.
D. F.
Good range of shops all inside with car parking above.
P. D.
It's always been a good place to shop and has a variety that should please most people. It's always clean and doesn't smell.
G. C.
Its a mall, its a shopping center, its not massive but there is enough, it has a starbucks and that is enough.
Plenty of different shops including and independant health food shop.
It basically does what it says on the tin.
R. “. R.
In the middle of a much needed referb..parking easy enough in the multi story carpark, not a bad choice of stores plus you've got the rest of the town centre all only a few minutes away once you've parked up.
S. W.
A good amount of shops and a good cut through without any scarey moments that some center's can give you these I stay away from. They have really thought of this one to be inviting.
I. L.
Good place to visit and get everything what you need. Make me feel very safe.
R. W.
Great place to shop plenty of choice. Newly refurbished to make getting to the lower level shops a bit easier with the installation of a lift.
M. M.
All open not so many people now
G. B.
Great amenities, with everything you need, not very attractive however.
K. V.
Love the new set out and bathrooms great to buy anything you need. Only not five stars because sadly my favourite store has relocated
P.
Good selection of shops, plenty of parking, nice and clean what more could one ask.
A. K.
It's pretty decent with the new renovations but the spiral ramp was the best part is no a boring staircase
S. F.
Ok shopping centre more shops outside of it nice pubs to eat in lovely walk by the river and things to do on river in the summer and new restaurants on river very good sweet shop in the arcadiea shopping area get in there if your and old fashion sweet lover good for kids of all ages would recommend
G. B.
Quite a surreal experience shopping here with few places open and virtually no customers
N. H.
One way system in place, public toilets nice & clean, there were a few people wandering around the wrong way, & not overly busy for a Sunday.
C. M. -. I.
Clean and modern place to go , you can have a good shopping experience.Multiple places to go , restaurant area, underground parking also, all shopping in one place.
J. M.
Standard average shopping centre. Got the shops but no style. Bedford town centre in general is better; eg, good food places now.
C. B.
The only toilet open in the town centre on a weekend! Nice shops.
S. M.
Good addition to shopping at Bedford. Not a vast array of shops but the Primark is excellent with wide aisles, well lit and well presented.
B. H.
Nice little shopping centre but a woefully inadequate choice of stores.
B. S.
Feels a little dingy in comparison to larger, more modern shopping centres. Has some useful shops, but not a huge range. This is mainly personal preference.
M. H.
The best shopping centre for miles around. It's based in my hometown so always pay a visit when I'm around the area and not working. Keep up the good work guys
S. O.
This used to be a busy shopping centre in the heart of Bedford. Alas, many shops here, like shops in Bedford city centre, including Marks and Spencer, BHS etc., have since closed and moved elsewhere due to low patronage.
E. H.
Lots of shops are closed as expected, but the place was well decorated and clean.
N. K.
Average shopping center, convenience with parking just above.
B. M.
Shops busy and hold large variety of well known stores.good car park. Market out side the centre. can feel cramped in this centre.
J. P.
Shopping centre recently been updated, new toilets were very good, but unfortunately been closed again but there are toilets inside opposite primark
A. C.
There's everything that one would need there, feom clothes, over to healthy lifestyle to celebration cards. If it's not there or one of the shops outside on the streets, you might need to go up to London.
B. G.
Standard mall that's a bit hard to get around because they have put what was two separate malls together which gives it an unusual footprint. Add to that poor signage and you can be in there ages.
P. M.
Town small shopping center love the bio food shop but they offer a bit of everything hairdresser, cosmetics, house related, clothing, gold and precious...
D. S.
Don't go to town too much as shop out of Bedford
It was quiet
L. J.
Fantastic choice of shops and some nice little rides dotted around to entertain the kids when needed.
C. S. (. C. I. S.
My home towns improves every time I go down to Bedford. Keep it up, like what you have done with the car park turned into restaurants and vue cinema near tkmax.
A. V.
Seems ok for a provincial shopping centre ina smallish town
A. W.
Been updated inside and in my opinion looks nicer than MK shopping center, clean and very helpful staff 👌
k. t.
Well organised easy to understand Covid rules minimum disruption good job well done
J. L.
Relaxed atmosphere. Polite, friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of shops
N. S.
One think which I found marvellous is that you can plan table tennis free of cost. Anyone can play which I reckon is really fun.
A. J.
Great place to shop under one roof.
B. P.
Before Christmas & about dead !
Didn't realise until today, Argos gone !
S. B. -.
Great place to shop, loads of services, opticians, pharmaceuticals, restaurants and flowers too!
R. L.
Wide variety of shops with a recently added free ping pong parlor with rackets and balls provided great place to go shopping or to play ping pong
7. Д.
Looks very nice 👌 👍 😀
B. R.
Bit scruffy and dirty
a. a.
A little sad walking through and seeing the number of shops that are closed and will not return - Let us hope that replacements can be found so that the Centre and Bedford Shopping can be regenerated
d. s.
Cold and windy, and not very well set up .I think large visuall maps on each entrance are needed, and again at the middle and finally directional pointers for the way back, walking g through we do look for these things and even a main hall face clock just for the memory, thanks.
J. C.
Clean and very presentable
E. M.
Has lots of good shops, cafes, and facilities as well as a car park above it and below it. Various w/c's and bins to keep it clean
R. H.
Used the local Boots store. A good size and well-stocked. Helpful and friendly counter staff.
e. j.
This place needs a few good clothing shops
L. F.
The harpur shopping centre is very nice , after it's recent refurbishment . My only criticism would be they removed the public toilets from downstairs and the upstairs ones are rubbish.
T. S.
Decent range of shops. Could be a little nicer with more indoor seating areas.
K. L.
Nice staff. Food always taste nice.
G. H.
OK and has the standard fare of shops. Nice Italian supermarket at exit for the new cinema and redeveloped riverside.
r.
As you would expect really, the normal shops you would find in any town.
T. H.
Definitely an improvement and finally upgraded the inside and doesn't feel like walking back into the 90s
S.
It has a TK max and you can buy boba tea opposite, what more do you want?
a. d.
Very nice and lots of shops in there which is very nice to see. Only issue is there is always a problem with the public toilets
T. S.
Robust, lots of interesting shops, access for disabled, but argos no longer accept returns. Say they do, but they do not. Liars.
L. A.
Has everything you need. Great value shops. Aarya Beauty is best place for a massage too.
K. C.
Been renovated so looks more appealing than it used to but it has never been a place thats amazing
B. G. 2.
Its your typical town shopping centre, hopefully once renovated there might be seating though I appreciate why it might not be there. Love tk maxx;newlook;primark and the little shops...
L. P.
Good selection of shops and right in the middle of town.
Can buy pretty much anything here, plus theres a Gregs and heating (great for the winter time)
k. h.
What can I say. It is just a shopping centre.
R. D.
It's a small arcade but it's clean and ok
D. L.
I wouldn't purposely come to Bedford just for the harpur centre as there are better shopping places such as MK but it has most shops you need although on a smaller scale.
M. C.
Not very busy. Bedford now has limited shops
R. B.
The mall area is nice and has many shops though it could use more variety.
N. C.
In bedford town. Needs a lick of paint. This high street mall is past its prime and needs some TLC. A few empty shops and quiet during the week.
V. S. L.
Clean and beautiful. TKMax, Primark, PoundLand, Starbuck's... I recommend it.
L. O.
Very organized here!! Lots of security. Lovely place to shop
L. G.
A small scale shopping centre but has opticians, chemists, cafes, pound shops, chocolate shop, cards shops, a couple of clothes shops, jewellers, health food, a bakers and if that isn't enough just step outside the centre and you are in the main shopping thoroughfare so you can get more or less everything you want within the local area.
J. E.
Clean pleasant arcade with good Veriety of shops.
M. S.
Parking prices good. Remember to park between lines or you will get a ticket... Lots of shops, very clean.
I. A.
There is a good range of shops. Large multistory parking, constantly bringing in new retailers so there is often something new to look at
E. P.
Hardly any shops in it . Lots of nice shops surrounding it though
H. S.
The refurb has done it some favours, looks alot nicer now, it's just the lack of shops with any life. No independent shops anywhere anymore
N. S.
Very convenient for the local shops and also great for snacks if on day out. Also under cover which is great if cold outside.
C. C.
Good variety of shops and parking on site
M. M.
Decent for a small town but needs more on trend shops. Luckily it's in the town centre so you can access more shops.
B. C.
Nice and clean but just another town centre shopping centre with nothing unusual to differentiate it
A. S.
Great place to visit if you are looking for a place to rest your feet and have a cuppa, or meet friends for a wander around the shops especially when the weather is bad you can get out of the wind and rain 😊
C. M.
A little dated but good range of shops, the cheaper end anyway. More shops outside around the shopping centre. No parking fees on the weekend.
W. T.
Busy indoor Shopping Centre with local shops as well as well known chainstores. What a fabulous welcome and lunch in Howard's Cafe/restaurant.
S. P. C.
i went to Bedford for a month to recover from illness and spent a lot of time at Harpur Shopping CentreCentre. My sisters' Church International House of Prayer meets in Harpur Centre every Sunday morning. I went to the Library nost days of the week. stopping from a cake and hot drink in the Library cafe. The rest of the timein Bedford I wandered around the shopping centre. It was a wonderful expereince and i would recommend it to anyone who goes to Bedford
V. G.
Small, friendly, but having a potential. Great fun at the pink pong parlour. What you need is there.
d. 1.
This Greg's is really nice - it has good food and really good service and the quality is great. The actual store is really clean
D. F.
It's good, but should be lots better when all of modernization is complete, and all vacant units occupied.
S. S.
My local shopping center, very easy to get around. The car park is a bit limited for space swell as the toilet.
K. T.
Not much left in the centre but always clean and rather festive this year
Z. V.
Visited in lockdown 3.0, practically empty as expected. Staff in Vision Express were friendly though.
M. E.
An okay shopping centre which desperately needs to modernise. I would strongly recommend Jenny's restaurant (Harper cafe) for excellent quality food t an affordable price.
M.
Needs seats, a tad dated perhaps but very clean, neat and tidy for it's age. Well done to all the team
J. C.
It ok. Just another shopping centre.
There are loads about, virtually all the same.
M. B.
It's ok just! Milton Keynes it's not. No M&S, just the bare minimum
G. M.
Missing some high street shops for sure. Timpsons is amazing though!
M. W.
Really like the improved decor & xmas trees to make people walk left or right
M. K.
OK lots of places closed. Just walked through. To outside shops.
S. M.
If shopping is your thing and you like it to be in the centre, try this truly awesome shopping centre.
W. W.
Very good,friendly staff xx
T. B.
Its getting better again slowly but there are plenty of shops and plenty to see. Desperately needs some seating for the less able bodied though
n. l.
Beats northampton!! Nice and clean and tidy and plenty of shopping

F. C.
Good selection of shops and redurb taking place so watch out soon will be a lovely centte
S. K.
It's an indoor shopping centre with the usual selection of town centre shops. Clean and well kept with some security staff.
I. T.
I last visited this place 15 years ago and not much has changed. A few different shops here and there but much the same.
J. H.
Very tired but a refurbishment is in the works. Eating places OK but several shops have deteriorated in their offer.
L. D.
Nice place. Reasonable amount is shops. Clean. Has a great Starbucks.
J. D.
Okay, limited shops in my opinion, too many health/ beauty shops in the ratio but nice layout.
L. R.
Great choice of shops, toilets need cleaning and air freshener. Security is good.
K. Z.
Really going down hill. Primark and newlook still the staples of town centre. But not much to offer other than that. Charity shops, costa and fast food restaurants. Thats about it
A. W.
Yup. It's the Harper Center. The same as it was in 1998.
s. f.
Nice place where you get everything
P. S.
Always gd for bits reminds me of Woolworths, lots of bits household pots pans cleaning materials birdfood, paint .Aladdin's cave👍
D. B.
A lot more better than the town shops and clean and has toilets for the disabled
D. T.
In general, it is ok with free Wi-Fi, but there are not a lot of shops there as a shopping center
W. B.
Could be a better shopping experience.
A. R.
Ok for essentials
s. s.
It's a fun place to visit for shopping, eating ,enjoying . Just like any other malls in UK
G. S.
Nice experience all shops following covid-19 safety instructions
W. N.
Good selection of shops in a place where time seems to have stood still and a well kept place.
I. R.
Reasonable selection of shops on my doorstep. Revamp of the shopping centre tastefully done
S. 1.
Nice shopping centre
p. k.
Typical shopping centre
I. L.
It's a very good Shopping centre got everything you need I go because my phone shop is there an all other phone shops to.
M. O.
Great new shops but very empty some days when market is not on
J. C.
Parking on site, very close to bus stops and taxis. Easy access for wheelchairs and prams to all shops.
T. D.
Has most of the shops you'd expect
D. C.
It has a lot of good shops in there and has a really good restaurant under neath the center
K. N.
Loads of really good shops.
A. P.
Good place to shop even better when not in a lockdown as more is open
M. K.
Looks so much better since the refit, just need to rent out the few last units!
J. B.
Wide open spaces. Plenty of shops in a wide range of products. Lots of toilet and kept clean
K. H.
Feels like a ghost town. People are not coming back to shop
A. N. B.
Good shopping, especially the Grape Tree where nuts and seeds and many other health foods can be purchased at good prices.
J. F.
It's got the shops that you need and all good range but nothing special.
J. S.
Wide menu choice, good service, great decor. Yet another place to get your ice cream fix in Bedford.
S. R.
Good selection of shops inside the centre
The place is clean and has a good atmosphere
J. M.
Understandably very quiet. Will any shops still be there in the spring?
C. H.
Well laid out, easy to park and a good range of shops. The outside is surprising! Good conversion
W. S.
Very clean and close to home. good work guys
C. P.
Looks tired. Pavement outside has a camber which can make it difficult in a wheelchair.
J. R.
A nice clean, but small shopping centre with a few main brands and a few indipendent.
C. P.
A good variety of shops
S. Y.
Greggs staff always welcome you with a smile. Food is delicious.
m. E.
Loads of empty units in the centre needs an injection of stylish shops to get a good shopping experience
g. j. r.
The centre has undergone a refurbishment, Well done exellent shopping a good selection of retailers ,9.9
C. T.
Clean tidy hot food only issue not alot of seating inside
D. U.
A little busy in current climate but ok
K. l.
Good variety of shops. Plenty of parking above. Has public toilets
S. R.
This spacious shopping centre is just perfect for a quick nip into the shops for a few things.
G. L.
Not a bad shopping centre. Better than The Mall in Luton
s. g.
Bouhjt what I wanted/needed without any fuss or bother.
Be really glad when o masks though!
R. G.
Looks really good after the refurb :) some great new shops too.
P. H. (.
Center is clean, plenty of guards, but poor shops (sums Bedford up now) and high car parking charges
C. W.
Has since been refurbished so great lift and extra toilets so all good 👍
D. J.
Great town centre though it still lacks some amenities such as a Bowling Alley and the major supermarket ASDA
