Reviews of Pieminister
C. M.
Lovely little restaurant situated in the heart of Birmingham by colmore row. Great location. 5 minute walk from snow hill train station and great table service. Pie’s are amazing, and the prices are very reasonable. Perfect!

As somebody who doesn't really like pies, Pieminister changed my mind. The pies are amazing, and the majority of the staff are really friendly, however there are a few things that let this branch down.
Firstly, the manager is rude. I walked in one day and greeted her and she was extremely rude to me. Secondly, there aren't any dessert pies- I know this may be a bit of pastry overload for some but you'd think a pie restaurant would stock sweet pies for those who want them? There is also a large range of vegetarian and vegan pies, but this range isn't reflected in the meat pies. You're limited to steak, steak and ale, steak and kidney, chicken and leek, and chicken and mushroom... there used to be other pies on the menu that were delicious, like the chicken, tomato, butter bean and olive pie that really extended the range of pies on offer, but they've opted to make all the meat options boring and basic in the hopes people go vegetarian or vegan, which is a shame as this alienates customers. This is made even worse by the fact that multiple times when I've been in, there has been MULTIPLE pies or sides not available because of stock issues. The other issue I have is that there is a great offer on 2 for 1 cocktails, but there are only a couple to choose from- most of which are quite savoury, so if you want a sweeter cocktail, again it doesn't cater to you.

Came in for a lunch bite, around 1pm. Despite there being many tables free, the server had to check with the manager before seating us which took 5 mins. It was 4 degrees outside and we had baby with us, so it was frustrating they sat us right next to the open door entrance which we ended up closing.
Service was really slow, despite seeing 4 waitresses on the floor and only around 5 other customers.
I ordered the chicken and mushroom pie with mash and baked beans. The meal came with Gravy too which wasn’t mentioned in the menu, so it was a bit saucy. When our food arrived my mash was cold and pie was Luke warm. However the waitress never came back to check on us. The food overall was nice, aside from being cold. We also had the gin and elderflower cocktail that was on 241, this was nice, had a nice bite from the lemon. We also ordered water for the table, this never arrived.
When we finished and wanted to pay and leave, we could see 3 members of staff including the manager having a chat, we stood up and put our coats on to leave. The staff and manager seeing this, still did not come over. Eventually, we had to ask them for the bill so we could leave. The staff member then asked if our meal was ok, when I mentioned the issue, she just said ok. Which made it seem pointless to mention as she disregarded it.
The bill came to £30 for 2 mains with 2 sides and 2 alcoholic drinks, which feels quite reasonable. The food was nice and would come back. But definitely not for the poor service. The staff clearly had other personal matters to discuss together than serve customers, so we didn’t enjoy being there and the atmosphere was really quiet.

Great food at a decent price. The restaurant is functional and fit for purpose although not super comfortable. It is what it is; fast food pie. I had the Moo and Blue (steak and Stilton) with chips and minty mushy peas, washed down with a pint of Pie.P.A. It was filling and delicious although it was lukewarm and the peas could've been mintier (it that a word!?). Overall a good meal, I'd visit again.

What a great place, very busy indeed. Popped in for a beer and ended up having food which was unbelievably good. Beer was excellent too. Staff were very friendly and very busy which is probably why it took a while for my food to arrive. Other than that cannot fault the staff, food or the place itself. Definitely worth a visit. I will definitely be going back. Keep up the great work you are all doing.

Relax, add mash and smash.
If you ever visit Te Anau in the South Island of New Zealand you’ll find a pie shop named Miles Better Pies. After visiting it on 2 occasions I can confirm it makes the best pies, at this time of writing, in the world. A close second, but arguably a pudding, is the suet sensation named “The Steamer” from Oak on the Green in Bearsted, Kent.
Why visit Pieminister? What it does do is offer a large choice of the baked packages in a relaxed, modern setting at very reasonable prices.
The staff are attentive and helpful.
The Italians have made espresso coffee part of their culture by making it accessible to the masses. Pieminister have done the same with humble pie.
If you’re in a rush and need something hearty to fill the gap, get a pie down ya neck.

Despite the restaurant being quiet, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. As a vegetarian I was very delighted to see the array of veggie options this place had to offer. I got the "Mother Earth" deal and for £10 the serving sizes were great. I chose the Kevin pie and it was delicious. The dessert and the end was also fantastic and I would definitely come again!
M. U.
Great little place, quite understated on Waterloo Street. Big thumbs up with service, food and the Pieminster Pie PA pint! Good choice/variety of carnivorous and vegetarian pies and sides! Although I'm not friends with any vegetarians, I'm pretty sure they'd like it here! 😂 1 pie, 2 sides: £9.50, or you can upgrade. Either/or, great tucker! 🍴
W. R.
Taste 9/10 , presentation 10/10 , atmosphere 8/10 , value for money 10/10, This pie shop is one of the best experience I have come across definitely Wazzie approved
L. H.
As always pieminsters pies are perfect in my opinion some of the best pies Ever! We had two Sunday pies the cracker (festive) and the free ranger (classic) you get two Yorkshire pudding, a pig in blanket, mash potato, sweed and carrot mash, baby potatoes and the main show the pie! The service is always good and very quick 10 out of 10
K. F.
Really great little find. Super close to the New Street Train Station & the premiere inn.
Lovely waitress & really yummy food!

This is my favourite place to go before a gig at the Town Hall. It's close to many attractions in the city centre, the staff are always friendly and accommodating, and the food is reliably fabulous. Great value for money, and multiple delicious accompaniments to your pie. Seasonal pies are good too (I had a veggie Christingle pie on my last visit, and it was delicious with some halloumi fries). It's a great option if you want casual sit down table service but not quite at a high end formal restaurant level. Highly recommended!
L. P. E.
OmG the pies were amazing if you are veggie or vegan and love a pie even you meat eaters the BEST pies
J. C.
We had a great meal here last night made all the more pleasant by Ella who was extremely accommodating. This branch has a rather shabby chique vibe which I guess is "trendy" but likewise may not suit everyone.
If you have been to a Pieminister before then you will know what you are getting, if you haven't then you don't know what you are missing.
Surprisingly good value too for a city center restaurant.
J. T.
I like a good pie and mash as it is increasingly hard to find any restaurants selling British inspired menus. They have a wide range of pie options including vegan and vegetarian. The mash was really tasty and the gravy was luxurious without skin or lumps.
M. W.
Great food. Very good price. Friendly staff. Recommend to all
N. H.
Gluten free options are really good! Portions are hearty and generous. Service was maybe a tiny bit slow, but stay were super friendly and helpful.
T. F.
Great pies. Not huge portions but very very tasty. Plus you can order pints of draft beer which is awsome. Moo and Blue Pie highly recommended
I. S.
First visit, new experience of an interesting concept. They were surprised by a large party which is unusual for a Tuesday, hence under-staffed so two people (chef and front of house!) did everything ... remarkably well! I look forward to a return visit.
J. 1.
Good food and fair prices. The veggie and meat options both good. Will go there again. Ideal to pop in after work on a cold evening!
A. C.
Service was a bit slow. We had a reservation and pre-ordered our meals but it still took 40 minutes from when we arrived to getting our food. Granted we were a large table/party, however we did order in advance and made them aware of our large group. I also saw other tables that came in after us being served before us.
The food was good. They do really good pies. However, a few of our orders were wrong. It was mainly the mash that was missed off a handful of orders but the waiting staff quickly rectified it.
Maybe this place isn't equipped to deal with larger groups? I have been here before and the wait time was acceptable.
K. C.
This was a great place, small and intimate with well cooked and presented food and cocktails. Staff are great and if you like a loyalty card they have one waiting for you 👍
J. B.
Very impressed with the pies my picky husband was tempted to ask for some to take home. would happy recommend, and will go again when we're in town.😊
K. J.
Plenty of vegetarian/vegan options but many of them have alcohol.
There are two options currently that don't contain alcohol, very tasty and filling. No queue to get in considering there were queues elsewhere. Pllenty of space when seated and great banter with our waiter.
A.
I went here with my mate and we absolutely loved the food! The pies were really tasty and well priced. Fries and gravy were also very good. The staff were friendly too. Would definitely recommend coming here for lunch.
H. G.
Lovely pie and mash
Price was on the higher side but it’s a fairly good place with dine in so fair enough
Staff were okay but not great hence 4 stars
S. R.
This was my first time but won't be my last. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty and the portion size was just right. The price was very reasonable making it a great lunchtime experience.
P.
I've eaten here a couple of times and loved it each time. Our group was quickly seated yesterday, service was really friendly and efficient, all for a reasonable price, particularly the Festive Feast option - highly recommend!
C. B.
Having been to Pieminister in Leeds I thought I would check this one out while in Birmingham with my 6 year old daughter. I was a little wary about how good they would be for kids - they were brilliant. Food was great (as normal) and service was too. Loved the kids menu - although my suggestion would be to allow kids to have peas AND gravy as part of the menu! What would be more awesome would be some mini pies for kids...
M. P.
I was part of a large group and we pre booked our visit a couple of weeks previous. We also submitted our food orders at the same time. I highly recommend this approach as we were seated quick, drinks and food came out very quick. Service was great overall. I had pork scratchings which were perfect and Moo and Blue which was very tasty. Overall I would highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again the next time I'm in Birmingham.
M. W.
Our first trip to a Pieminister. Wow! Incredible & delicious food. Staff are superb & very friendly. Will definitely come back again.
C. B.
Great value well executed pie based restaurant. Cool casual vibe, good choice of pies, dudes and meal combinations. House lager excellent. Good friendly service. Recommended.
J. S.
I entered Pieminister and straight away loved the industrial style decor - which was softened by twinkly Christmas lights. We were served by attentive friendly staff. It was difficult to choose from the tempting menu. There was a good choice of vegetarian/vegan options so I plumped for the 'Chooks Away' pie - it was delicious. My son had a chicken pie (cant remember the exact name) with loaded fries and gravy. He really enjoyed it and had no room for a pud, and neither did I ! Definitely will be visiting Pieminister again.
S. H.
Great little pie restaurant with a great customisable menu. Really should be something for everyone with a wide selection of side. Actually found it really hard to choose as there were so many I wanted to try. Will have to come again to try different combos but this time we had the Matador pie with mash and chilli garden peas. All so fresh and tasty, the peas were amazing. Yes peas! We also had a green thai curry pie with mash and minty mushy peas. Again, really good flavours and a great twist on some iconic dishes. We also had pickle eggs, well worth a try if you like them or new to the pickle egg scene. A couple of the beers were off when we visited as they have only recently opened but would like to return to try them. Also watch out for splinters.
T. L.
My first visit here and it was so good! Had the mooless moo with mash and halloumi chips and they were all delicious. Very friendly staff and nice relaxed atmosphere 🥧
R. V.
Didn't realise Pieminster has restaurants and absolutely loved the experience. The environment is nice, quick service and really good food. I went for one of the vegetarian "Heidi" pie (goats cheese, sweet potato and spinach) with mash and garden peas. The sparkling elderflower is well worth it!
I. P.
Top notch pies, great beer and excellent service. Loved it.
L. P.
Delicious, always wanted to visit here when I came to Birmingham, so I’m glad I finally did. Went for (and highly recommend) the brewdog ale pie. Loaded fries with halloumi were delicious. Service was slow considering the restaurant was fairly quiet, but a great experience overall.
H. S.
visited during Pie Week and it's what pie dreams are made of😍 Their mash was so smooth and mushy peas - a perfect accompaniment. 4 stars because the halloumi chips were chewy.
L. Z.
Good variety of flavors of pies, great attentive services. The first pint of beer was still and taste weird, they immediately offered to pull a fresh pint.
J. D.
Absolutely lovely staff and nice interor. The pies are delicious with generous amount of gravy. Sides are pretty good as well. The food came very fast.
R. S.
Really enjoyed my visit here tonight. Not busy, probably due to ongoing c19 issues. The lad serving us was nice and friendly. The dishes served were all lovely. Hot and served at a good pace. House wine was a fair price and drinkable. The IPA was good too. Cant fault it.
G. M.
Pies were lovely, it's just a shame that they took 55 minutes to get to us, and that none of the staff thought to come and let us know that the wait would be that long. I would go back again, but only if I took a snack with me for the long wait.
In reality, it's probably easier to buy one of their pies from a supermarket and cook it yourself. Only takes half an hour!
R. E.
First visit today. Good service and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Will definitely return. Yum 🤤
T. E.
Went for lunch there with my wife. She had the catch 22 and I had the moodog with be cheerus loaded fries. The service was good and quick. The food was hot. Taste was ok. The catch 22 tasted ok as well. Portion size on loaded fries was a bit too much, half the size of the fries and it would of been just right. Overall an ok experience, wouldn't go again though but if you like pies then give a whirl.
T. B.
Went during the Christmas period. Was fully booked but happily took us as walk-in. The menu has several vegan/veggie options both on the main and the festive menu. I had The Cracker pie with "Be Cheesus" loaded fries and it was lovely. My girlfriend had a vegan pie which was good but said that the gravy, whilst nice, overpowered the flavour a little. We had shared the vegan pecan pie Sunday which was lovely. The pieminister larger is pretty good and 5% of money goes to charity. Selection of drinks are good. Very good value for money. The staff were lovely and service was good and quick for such a busy time. Would recommend.
C. H.
Great place, only reason for 4 star was because my husband was still a little hungry. Was more than satisfied with my meal.
m. g.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Highly recommended 👌
M. L.
Who ate all the pies! 🥧 They've even got a disco ball! The BBQ beans are must have. The deserts are good too, I suggest getting one of the desert pies or the sticky toffee pudding.
D. V.
Small busy restaurant. Just opened. Several dishes were off the menu which was a shame. Will be back though. Good value too.
M. M.
Friendly, attentive staff and tasty affordable pies. Recommended.
s. s.
Been here for the bottomless brunch. Food is superb. Staff are very fast when your glass is nearly empty.
Definitely recommend when in Birmingham.
Been here loads of times and is my favourite place to eat as they have so many veggie pie options.
Try the kevin😊
O. I.
Wanted to try for so long!
Will definitely be going back.
Service was good. Wasn't busy.
Shields around table booths and spaced out individual tables

I went on a Saturday at 1:30PM and the place was packed for the next 2 hours. In fact, large parties where stopping in and leaving once they heard the wait.
The service was good by European standards and the waitresses apologized for the slow service which I found to be fine considering that the place was full. I waited around 8 minutes for my order to be taken, and the food came quickly, in about another 8 minutes.
I had a specialty cherry cola which was excellent. It was bitter and reminded me a bit of Fernet. I ordered The Feast which was any pie, 2 sides, and a small skewer of meat. I had the Moo and Blue steak and Stilton pie, cheesy mash, mashed minty peas, and a skewer of mini sausages wrapped in bacon. The meal came with a ladle of gravy that was more than enough, so I don’t understand why anyone would ask for more (it’s bottomless for one pound more).
The pastry on the pie was perfect. It was French styled not the hot water crust I am used to in the UK. The meat was plentiful but I wished for more Stilton. I have a salt tooth but I thought that everything lacked seasoning and a little more salt and pepper (easily remedied) made it perfect.
I had not the appetite to try the dessert puddings which looked good. My meal was only 15.95 pounds.

Should possibly get 5 stars if it weren't for am initial bad taste.
The first time I had a chance to eat here I was hopeful, I mean who doesn't like a portion of comforting portion of pie n mash especially with names like 'mothership' on the menu. Sadly while the food lived up to my pie in the sky dreams the service didn't.
After being seated, 30 minutes without an offer of anything, drinks, food an explanation on who takes 30 minutes to read an A3 ish size menu. We saw the lady who sat us walk out the door never to be seen again, which prompted us to take matters into our own hands, finally getting drinks and a food order sent in. Another wait ensued, people who were sat after us had food and drinks.
Another 30minutes after the order we got the food which was everything you would expect from a quality pie shop, with the mothership consisting of a pie of your choosing served on a bed of mash, minted mushy peas on top of your pie finally finished with crispy shallots in a mothership tower of pie, peas and mash glory.
I have given them a try since the incident and the food was still up to standard plus the service had improved hence the 4stars hopefully this is the norm and they would have achieved 5 stars if it wasn't for that initial appalling experience. I may upgrade it in the future if the service stays on the upside.
The pictures are from the second visit, sorry no mothership I was too hungry for photos after waiting an hour or more for my dinner.
S. D.
Very nice my partner is gluten free first pie she has in ages so was nice to both enjoy
O. Q.
Love this place! Reasonably priced and large portions. I would highly recommend.
F. J.
Love Kevin the vegan pie. Truly an amazing pie even loved by my very much meat eating husband. Pieminister often has some good deals on. We came for national pie week and had £2 pies.
S. P.
Excellent reasonable priced pies close to Victoria Square. Decent own brand IPA. I had the chicken pie and the crust was flaky and delicious.
R.
Absolutely tasty. Had a gluten-free pie: so fresh, crunchy dough... Felt almost like I was normal :) ! Thank you guys for creating these GF pies.
T. L.
Great location, nice clean restaurant, friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. Went for lunch on a Friday and it was busy, but they fit us in. Would book ahead next time to be sure to get a table.
E. H.
Loved it really nice food homemade pies and the staff are very nice and helpful
J. L.
The pie we had was nice and hot (beef & Stilton) but the portion of mash was confusing, like it was only there to hold the pie in place. The beef gravy tasted awful, all you could taste was red wine, which wasn’t stated on the menu that it was a red wine beef gravy. I hate red wine based gravy. Poured lots on my pie thinking it was normal beef flavoured gravy and ruined it.
TLDR: Pie good. Gravy bad. Not enough mash
H. M.
Popped in here last minute (40 mins before closing) and still had absolutely fantastic service and great food. We stopped here on our way through to London and absolutely don't regret it!
The food options are simple and affordable - and they're so good we even ordered extra to take home!
c. s.
I wish I could give 6 stars. I've been to a few pie ministers now and this is by far my favorite. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, it's a great location, superb food. Joanna is absolutely world class and a credit to the pieminister family.
L. C.
Great food and amazing service, manager and his staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome. We will be going again 👍
J. O.
Changed my views on pie... I am now a keen pie eater.. Great pies!
L. W.
Really nice food at very reasonable prices considering the location.
Staff were nice and really helpful, will definitely be going again!
W. R.
The ambience of the place is nice. Customer service was good but slow as there was only one person managing tables, serving and checking out.
I ordered Heidi Pie which was veg friendly and taste was fresh and good. It was full of flavours. Mash potatoes and curry were good but minty mushy peas were a turn off.
Would recommend only 1 side with the portion of pie being big.
Enjoyed the experience !!
s.
Great food, big portions and good service 😬
a. p.
Festive feast versions of the cracker and mistle moo, was a delight
S. E.
Quirky idea. Quality food with fabulous flavour. Great staff. Albeit the casual setting was not to my taste and the initial smell on entry was a little overwhelming.
M. M.
Nice food. I had the Heidi as I'm vegetarian. Tasted really good and the side portions are a decent size. Well priced too.
Staff were also friendly
V. B.
Lovely food and wonderful service. Will definitely be going back.😃
L. M.
Very tasty old fashioned food , with a modern twist. Friendly staff .
A. A.
Amazing pies, friendly staff and quick service. Definitely going back!
T. C.
Great pies for a great price! Probably one of the cheaper places around Birmingham. Only criticism would be thicker gravy (person preference).
G. T.
Enjoyed my Heidi pie n mash. Only let down was music that was too loud and spoilt the ambience.
M. P. (.
Very yummy, though I was disappointed that the traditional gravy was unavailable. The chicken sherry one just wasn't that great. Comfortable atmosphere.
I. B.
Great food with a great choice for Vegans and Vegetarians
V.
Friendly efficient service. Chilled staff. Good prices. And.. Flipping delicious pies!!
j. h.
Yummy pie, good veggie options and reasonably priced
t. b.
The staff that I came into contact with were brilliant and very accommodating to out many requests, would highly reccomonf pie minister, they also have great vegan and vegetarian options
C. W.
Good service and absolutely delicious pies. Would always recommend!
J. O.
Brilliant menu. Food great. Staff very friendly. Relaxed.
A. M.
A party of six dined at Pieminister, Birmingham for the first time last Friday. It will not be the last. We were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to our table. We did not really know what to expect, apart from pies, but had a great time and great pies. A wonderful concept.
D. R.
Great value and great pies.
T. H. J.
Best place for pie!
Only reason it's 4 instead of 5 stars is because the price is a touch too much for a pie methinks (only by a couple of quid though)
The menu doesn't mention gravy for some reason, but from what I've seen each pie has a different gravy pairing dependent on the pie flavour itself. It was all delicious, though I wish you got a few more mushy peas for your money.
I'll definitely be back regardless, and suggest you check it out too. Service was attentive but not invasive, happy and positive 👍
R. J.
Good food (meat and vegetarian choices), reasonable price and attentive service. Decor and comfort not so good.
D. A.
friendly staff, great pies, quick service and relXed atmosphere
E. d. R.
Nice English pies! Would not eat them on a daily basis, but I enjoyed very much the experience. Cosy place, friendly staff. Despite the fact that all the tables were booked for later, they let us in (6 people, 3 kids) and we enjoyed our meal without any rush or pressure to finish. This does not happen always (many places, in particular English pubs, don't allow kids even for lunch time).
m. b.
I was a bit disappointed as the waitress we had was spot on but I felt let down by the food. The sides were ridiculously small and some of our items we ordered didn't arrive so we had to ask again. It was our sons birthday. He couldn't eat the pies as they didn't have any he liked... So we ordered extra mash and gravy but it was a shame.
Otherwise they were attentive staff and the pies were amazing.
C. S.
Absolutely loved it here. Shot right to the top of places I'll be heading to for food in Birmingham.
K. K.
Oh god... went there with my family. The pies are well priced, the portions very good and the taste.. Well its everything you would expect your mom to cook. Perfect comfort food, absolutely loved this place. Great location and friendly staff..
R. D.
Delicious, filling and very nicely priced. It was popular too, we were lucky to get a table and saw lots if people turned away after that. Great selection of meat and vegan meals. Highly recommended.
T. M.
Great vegan menu. Delicious pies.
D. F. (.
Service was excellent all round and food came as promptly as you would expect. Was presented very nicely and tasted absolutely gorgeous! Very very good value for what you get! Would 100% recommend.
B. M.
Steak n ale pie with pint of PiePA... perfect 🥰
I. H.
Food was good. However the service was poor. The guy working (can't remember his name) was rude from the outset. Plonked our drinks on the corner of the table and walked off. Pretty much the same with our food.
The food was good and delivered quickly
A. W.
Super nice. Great pie (had a moodog), really, really nice staff.
A. G.
Good pies, service and value for money
D. B.
Dinner for 2: friendly and safe service, very good social distancing setup with screens and plenty of space between seats. Still managed to have good customer service despite the new normal. Will visit again soon!
L. P.
We looked for some kind of vegan opt fast food with take away. We ordered their two vegan pies with two sides. I must admit, it was delicious! Good prices, friendly staff. If you want late night vegan food, this is the place. Highly recommended.
R. C.
Fantastic food! The pies here are super tasty! Don't know how they cram so much filling in! Plus the pastry is so good!
Vegan & Gluten-free options also served here.
UPDATE! you can also buy their pies cold to cook at home!! :)
M. P.
Great Sunday lunch pie offer 😋 Beef and Stilton pie yum!
G. U.
Unreal. If you need a pie it's here. If you are in Purity across the road, don't pay 15 quid for a burger less chips and just leave, cross the road and change your life with a pie and 2 sides for 9.50 👌👌
L. W.
Delicious Poe's and milkshakes loved it
R. P.
Pies tasted great, so great I wished the portion was larger. Service was good and attentive and our booking was honored even though we turned up 10mins late.
Don't sit close to the window as there is a draft when it's cold and windy.
All pies seem to come with gravy which was not clear on menu. Hence one of us asked for extra gravy.
Overall I would definitely go back.
A. H.
Great food great service and quality food and drinks panner pie
A. K.
Nice new concept with different kind of food. Vegan and vegetarian options available. Free WiFi!
T. R.
It's good. I had the moo and blue pie (beef and cheese), which was tasty and two sides (fries and cheesy mash). They have mutliple deals you can select and a range of sides to choose with your pies. Also had the mud pie dessert, which is chocolate ice cream in a pie shaped cone, and was rich and tasty. Previous times I have been I have had onion rings, but they are not standard onion rings, and they are not as good as standard onion rings. The fries also come quite salty so you might ask if you don't want them to be salty. Staff are helpful and friendly.
S. O.
Get you pay for here.
Nice space.
Table set or take away.
If you just fancy a pie, it's worth a stop.
My sister can't eat dairy and they were really accommodating. Even had vegan pastry.
Good range of sides too.
Quick service
Not too pricey
s. s.
Great, homely pies!
Not visited here before but now will definately being go back! A great casual eating occasion and relaxed atmosphere where local and unique ales!
P. T.
Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere here
k. b.
Hot Crispy Pastry and tasty filling on a rainy Sunday is the best way to spend your day?!
I. S.
Excellent service… Delicious food…Highly recommended…
L.
Always delicious and the service is always good. Great for a quick informal meal.
A. O.
Food was tasty and the staff fri⁷⅞
P. d. B.
We went for £20 bottomless Brunch. You get a choice of a few drinks. They serve them slowish. There is a time limit of 90 minutes which makes sense.
I had a vegan pie and mash. I felt the mash was nice and good quality. I liked the pastry on my pie but not my filling at all. I had the no chooks pie, I was very disappointed in the filling. It was tough, flavourless and really disappointing.
The other diners had other pies and all really enjoyed them. I think therefore its a filling issue on this specific pie.
I would therefore say... Vegans and veggies chose carefully. Meat eaters people were happy.
No parking, as in city centre. Lots of options therefore of going for drinks afterwards.
Please note loos are down a long flight of stairs if your mobility is reduced, it would be a struggle.
N. S.
As you'd guess this place does pies! However you might not guess it does great drinks to go with them.
The range of pies is just right, lots to choose from but not overwhelming. They taste great & come with delicious sides. If you want to feel full after a meal this is a great venue for you.
The decor is stripped back, bare brick etc. It all works, the service is efficient & their IPA is delightful.
All on offer is very reasonably priced too.
D. A.
Absolutely amazing pies for both vegetarians and for omnivores (as I have been informed by my meat eating friends.) Wholeheartedly recommend this place for anyone wanting a delicious pie in the centre of Birmingham! Fast service and friendly staff 11/10
S. J.
Lovely warming, good for the sole food 😊
E. L.
Great pies - this one is a mothership Moo & Blue and some pigs in blankets
M. H.
We went last night. The only thing was there was no coleslaw,no beans, just peas and minted peas. So we had the extra thing with mash minted peas and cheese. It was lovely but missed the claw!!.
S. S.
Excellent customer service, good choice of pies available with some really tasty sides (Sweet potato fries are amazing).
Only downside is the gravy has a tiny bit of a funny taste to it. Not sure why, maybe its just made with a slightly non-standard stock cube.
S. B.
This is by far the best pie shop ever, I chose to have my 50th birthday meal here with my daughter. A lovely quiet and relaxing atmosphere and the food is beautiful. I have also been to the one at Trentham Gardens and the quality is the same at both. If you like pies then you definitely need to give Pieminister a visit.
R. B.
Great food, good service!
M. L.
Really nice pie, just a bit of a strange format for pieminister with it being pretty much a traditional sit down table service restaurant format. Felt it would work better as an order at the counter with communal seating or takeaway option. It was busy enough at lunchtime but only really if you have the time to spare.
W. K.
Very delicious pie with cool beers and great atmosphere for Saturday evening.
B. F.
Absolutely phenomenal!!!!!
M. J. H.
First time I've tried them and really good tasty pie mine was beef bacon's and port with side orders.A great meal and pricing was right .Makes a good choice especially on a cold winters day and for £ 11 I had the lovely our sides and a hot drink
D. H.
What a place! Fantastic pies and great service. We actually were too early but the server let us in, took our order and very quickly had our food put to our table. 10 out of 10 for customer service!!
V.
Amazing food! We tried the vegetarian and vegan options, all of which were throughouly enjoyed! There was a bit of a wait as they were busy, however the staff were really pleasant so you could forgive it and we weren't in a rush...
G. J.
Great mains (I highly recommend the vegan pie and loaded fries). Staff are really friendly and helpful. Getting the right bill was a little problematic (third time's a charm) but that was the only gripe.
A. S.
First time going, loved the food, and definitely would go back. Pork scratchings was lovely as a starter, definitely try a different pie when we go back. Cloudy lemonade was lovely too.
L. B.
Very tasty, though portions were pretty tiny
P. C.
Great simple food and service. Cocktails value for money and very drinkable
J. E.
Amazing pies, I had the Chicken of Aragon and it was delicious. Screw top bottles of prosseco were strange as were the champagne saucers they served us to drink it from, but it's fun and it was different. Really friendly staff and an efficient service. Am already planning my next visit!
J. S. (.
Great little place to grab a good Pie! Unfortunately ran out of cheesy sauce so couldn’t order loaded fries.
Would be a lot more popular if was in a better location.
A.
Delicious pies - that's the name of the game here and they excel. We had to wait a while for our food but they were busy in fairness (arrive early if you're in a rush).
Beyond that - very very tasty and with a good range of options to satisfy most tastes. I'll be going back to try more!
D. S.
Pies are nice and tasty..but the staff really messed up the pudding order and gave us a pudding with nuts in when we ordered mince pie icecream! They apologised and took those 2 puddings off the final bill, but the consequences could have been catastrophic! The error reflects the rating given
G. H.
Loved it. Superb vegan range.
J. V.
Pretty nice place, pies were tasty and personnel were nice.
T. R.
The pies are great. Good options and always tasty. They're a little slow at times to serve and bring the bill. No biggie. Contactless phone payments never work FYI so be sure to have your card or cash on you - I know most would. Great prices too.
K. T.
Lovely food and atmosphere
K. R.
Pies were great. All clean plates. We ate it all
R. B.
Tasty food good portion sizes
O. L.
Good food, OK beer. Feel like they were short staffed on the night, would have been nice if our server was a bit friendlier though, you can still smile if you're busy!
W. B.
Always a great experience here. Great food service, nice and quick and the quality is amazing! Can not fault it in any way! Very highly recommend to any pie lover
D. D.
We enjoyed eating at Pieminister , it's not Pretentious or Michelin starred ( we are all a bit fed up of them ), just VFM tasty food . They do various 'meal deals' , with Pie ,mash, gravy and sides. The pies were very tasty , the mash delicious, and really great sides. A good selection of drinks , we tried some IPA, Reveller Cider and 2 for 1 cocktails (woo woooo) . A couple of our group tried deserts which we all all had a couple of spoonfuls of (table of 4) , they were really nice especially the hot chocolate desert . The place is trendy and clean , sort of urban chic . The staff were very friendly and helpful . Great for a quick bite to eat , we will be returning
***** We have been again since the food and the staff just as good . A special shout out to the two fantastic staff members who looked after us when we arrived as they were shutting on a Sunday night . We didn't catch your names a young blonde lady , and a nice dark haired chap with glasses and Brummie accent . Thanks for your hospitality and complimentary drinks . We shall return *****
L. J.
Service was very good and fast, prices are reasonable. Food was good but I think I enjoyed my first visit there when I had the mexicow pie. Was filling though. Cider was yummy, could of done with a few more pints.
A.
Nice and quiet for a Saturday afternoon. The staff were accomodating and attentive. Good choices on the menu and the portion sizes are large! £12 for a pie, chips, gravy and three sticks filled with halloumi and pigs in blankets. Two for one cocktail offers available even on weekends.
Trendy decor with exposed brick, raw wood, metal fixtures, and retro furniture. A great spot to have lunch whilst you're shopping.
R. C.
Excellent pies and so cheap for the quantity and quality of the pies. Loved the gluten free pies which are the tastiest I've had. Would recommend to all but especially to Gluten free individuals.
C. W.
Decent food and very quick service. Nice atmosphere just down from the town hall and art gallery. They have good gluten free options and vegan meals to boot.
D. B.
great visit first time with friends the food was great staff were very pleasant but seemed overstretched I waited for ages to order drinks I was just sitting waiting for someone to ask me if I would like drinks like I say they looked a little busy I will give you guys the benefit of the doubt and will return again the pies are something different!!!
R. M.
Not as good as everyone makes out. (The following is added after reply from Pieminster)... Very happy that the owner chose to respond personally and with a view to getting feedback rather than just berating my review. Perhaps I was unfortunate with my menu selection and I could revisit to try something else. Happy to amend my review if I find something I like!! Certainly all my friends seem to love it there!! Thank you for getting back to me. I'll increase to three stars until I've been back! :)
D. M.
Absolutely outstanding, pies fantastic, value fantastic, will not get a better meal for the money in Birmingham, waitress Patrycja was lovely, fun and friendly, a real delight a credit to pieminister, awsome
A. M.
Nice pie and mash restaurant although nothing like the pie shops in London.
The pie I had was tasty and the slaw was a nice accumplmen. The skinny chips were box standard.
A. F.
I honestly love this place. The pies are amazing. I went to Pieminister 3 times and had different pies each time. I wasn't disappointed and I am definitely going back for more.
Staff is friendly and accommodating , fast service and the pies are to die for.
Thank you Pieminister!
J. P.
Not a huge lover of pies but these were top notch. Pieminister add modern twist to a British classic.
J. M.
Pietastic, I went fully loaded and was not disappointed, super pastry, crisp and tasty, nice filling. As a fully paid up member of the pie fanciers society I give it a hearty round of applause.
C.
Oh my god, I first went there the other week and had the chicken and chorizo pie with gravy. I couldn't describe how nice the gravy and pie was. Fantastic
S. P.
Pretty expensive for what you get and to be honest not a great selection on the menu.
A. C.
Second time we have been here, excellent food and drinks and beer and deserts, very reasonable prices not the rip off of some other eateries in Bham centre. Staff friendly and polite. Recommended.
R. W.
Wonderful selection of vegetarian and vegan pies. Tasty skin on fries. Staffeta are friendly and efficient. Goodo value and filling.
N. C.
A good progression from supermarket shelf to restaurant treat. Nice for a quick lunch break feed. Very good pies, full and with delicious psstry. Reasonably priced too. I tend to have their Moo and Blue, Chicken Aragon and Matador varieties delivered in with my home shopping deliveries. Yes they do sell them at Waitrose 😊
H. S.
This is the place! Never eaten here before but me and my wife throughly enjoyed it! Pies were so tasty and the service was amazing! Well done to the two girls Lukasz .... other unknown who welcomed us and made the whole experience that much better!!! :)
C. C.
Great food, with fast service, all at a great price.
£9.95 for a pie, 2 sides and a stick is excellent value for money.
Would definitely recommend the Matador or the Moodog for any first timers.
N. L.
We went here and loved it. Lots of vegan and gluten-free options. The food came out fast and was piping hot. Highly recommend
E. R.
Great pies. Went here for lunch with some friends. The staff were friendly
Note they are very filling so come hungry
H. K.
Beautiful pies, good prices. All you want to start your night out
L. B.
Fantastic place. Great food, great value, staff friendly fun and attentive without being over bearing. Highly recommended.. Many thanks especially to Patricja and Danny.
A. M.
Great food, vegan options which tasted great, really good friendly service, baby changing and disabled facilities. On street parking near by too. Pie was incredible!
U. S.
Best Pies, Ever. Fabulous Gluten Free range.
P. G.
Loved it. Love the pork scratching. Pies were tasty, light and big enough. All meal was great. I will be back for sure.
M. C.
Loved the food, the staff was so kind. We did not book but there was no need to. We didn't wait too long either for our food. Definitely want to go back.
P. N.
Name didn't live up what I thought and saw it would be.
C. L.
Very warm and welcoming staff. Catered well to our large party including a one year old. Fantastic food. Excellent experience.
D. T.
Wonderful Christmas menu! Really cool atmosphere inside, and service was fast. Would recommend booking as it was busy the entire time!
T. G.
Very quick service, but service could be a bit more swift.
J. R.
Great concept and food with friendly efficient service. Good beer. Eaten many times at Pieminister in Bristol so pleased they have arrived in Birmingham.
M. O.
Very good as always. If the beers were £1 cheaper it'd be 5* for me. The restaurant is always designed nicely and it's good to have fashionable British food on the high street
A. O.
We arrived just before peak time and only had 45 minutes to be served and eat. Great food and the beer was alright but the service felt rushed
A. M.
Been here twice first time was amazing great pie and loved how it was layered great service from the lady blonde hair
And lager was fresh and light too
2nd experience service again from same lady then took over by a male dark hair he was lovely also great location and great atmosphere too 👍
J. S.
Such a good pie. Ended up buying a couple to take home. Great staff and service
B. M.
The food is great and so Good 😊
B. T. A.
Food was nice, gravy was an unpleasant flavour, the chicken pie flavour was milder than I would have liked.
P. G.
Great food. Good prices on meals. Soft drinks a bit expensive. Service started off really good and deteriorated towards getting and paying for the bill! Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
A. B.
So exciting to be able to go out for gluten free pie!!! They are delicious. The only down side is the lack of gluten free puddings.
A.
Very tasty, decent prices
J. S.
Excellent... Excellent food, surroundings, staff. They've got it all right. The vegan Kevin pie is great. Highly recommended 👍
P. M. (. i. H.
Probably the best pie I have ever had. Delicious
A. V.
Fantastic food and not too expensive for what you get. The meal options are good and the quantities satisfying. I was very pleased with my dinner there!
P. W.
Best gluten free pie i think I've ever eaten.
Staff were very friendly, the food was great and the price makes the whole thing a real bargain I thought.
C. B.
Always excellent food! Customer service second to none here. Was served by Sunni and Patrycia... made us feel perfectly welcome and made our experience even more lovely. I recommend to all!
S. W.
Pie and variety of sides, plus a surprisingly good selection of desserts. Tasty, lovely staff, and very affordable
P. K.
Really great food and friendly staff
P. W.
I loved Pieminister. Everyone should try it at least once! I am going to keep going until I try the whole menu 😎 great service, friendly and down to earth. It doesn't try to be anything that it isn't...says Pie and does Pie
S. H.
Never really been a lover of pies but decided to take my daughters
But I was pleasantly surprised
Pies where great booking on line was easy to
Worth the visit
N. J.
Good service and a wide variety of tasty pies. Couldnt quite give it 5 star as the sides are incredibly small
M. L.
First visit, food well presented and tasty. If more waiting staff available would have given 5*. Will visit again though.
L. H.
Fabulous lunch of steak and kidney pie and mash and good tea. Amazingly good food and first class service. A great experience. Thank you xx
S. R.
If you like pies this is a good place. Decent range including for vegetarians. Friendly and prompt service. Beer is expensive though.
L. O.
Pies and beer, simple but done well and good value. You will leave contentedly full and feeling a bit thrifty as it cost less than you expected
A. F.
Amazing pies! Cheaper that expected in city centre, great cocktails, nice staff and delicious food!
A. C.
PIES! :)
Really gorgeous food, good service and fantastic value. Defiantly worth a visit though the Christmas menu did just seem to be their normal food rebranded....
A. P.
Amazing food and service! Wish I had space for dessert too!
Recommend the saag Paneer pie with Cauliflower loaded fries!
L. H.
Pies were amazing with lots of sides and nice cider. Service really friendly and 241 cocktails after 9.30pm
O. A.
Fantastic pies, a great alternative for a Sunday roast & their cocktails are lovely, definitely would recommend at least one vist
V. H.
This place was OK, due to the fact that the staff were pleasant but the room was minuscule compared to the price. The food was nice but not enough of it for the price.
L. K. D.
Pies are great but I can't say it's anything special. Was served flat Prosecco to begin with too. Service was prompt though.
B. G.
The food was brilliant, service was super fast too! The atmosphere was very retro which I loved! Will definitely be going back!
P. A.
What a wonderful little place with amazing food and wonderful staff
M. W.
A busy lunchtime, which meant service was a little slow, but food was good. Unfortunately they did have quite a few pies that were unavailable, but that was explained and there was still plenty to choose from.
S. B.
Delicious food. Best pies I've ever had! Fab service!
J. J. P.
Who ate all the pies!!?! Gotta try from the summer guest selection and the hot chocolate pudding. Their top service from staff made it 5*
T. C.
Excellent and good value food, but not giving it 5 stars because the loos are a bit of a trek and the lighting is a bit strange!
P. T. R.
Nice place to eat. I payed £6.95 for a lunch pie and a side, this is enough for having a warm lunch and keep you going for longer than a 3 meal deal.
M. G.
Loved it. Pie, lots of pies. Very nice pies. Good value, nice atmosphere, beer good. What's not to like.
n. d.
We was given a realky small seat at the window. The staff messed up my reservation as well..
Food was nice though
D. R.
Tasty pies and sides at decent prices. The salt and pepper onion rings are fantastic as well as the moo and blue pie.
L. S.
This isn't a bad place for pie I think our is for a specific time of year or even weather and a hot summer day isn't that kind of day.... everyone else seemed happy with there pie though
L. B. (. B.
Great pies! The restaurant's quite loud and echoey though and seats not too comfortable.
E. C.
Lovely pies and delicious deserts. Would definitely recommend them and would definitely go again
A. B.
