Reviews of St. Martin's Market
The market is busy with fresh fruit and veg sold at £1 a bowl before closing the traders sell 2 bowls for a pound. They sell watches. Mobiles, cases, traveling bags, curtain material, they have caravans that sell refreshments breakfast, Brunch, tea, coffee, bottled water, pop, a place called Chilly Billie's which sell frozen foods, refreshments. A family atmosphere. There are local buses, and taxi services. A 3 minute from the National Express Coach Station
Excellent place to visit. Make sure you get someone to carry the bags for you
Great staffare helpful and kind to peoplewith learning disabilities friendly staff
It would be better if all stalls opened for nine o'clock some don't open till ten or later.
Great range of everyday haberdashery, hats and things to tempt your wallet!!
Always nice to browse through all the great stalls and look for bargains
It was closed today because it's Monday but I love all the shops and restaurants around it
Pretty much has what you need! Clothes shoes, fancy dress, cooking equipment, jewellery, etc etc etc....
Good and clean market area plenty space for parking and seating for resting for disabled and enjoy
I always go there for fresh groceries and hot drinks..
I go to the market nearly every day. It's not as vibrant as it used to be. It's being rundown. Stall holders are depressed, unsure of their future. It's like a ghost town with fewer choices. The end of an era.
Still a good market even though Birmingham Council keep changing it full of wonderful items and curiosities
You can find witch ever you like and every sunday has a defrient items
A very good market to shop at and very good value and choice for your money
Trying to find a way through this tough time
Lovely clean place and beautiful breakfast. Really enjoyed it
Aways great for getting fabric best day to go is a Saturday
Not visited for years...a shadow off how it used to be...but surviving better than the old outdoor market
Better than the German Christmas market which is what we really went to see.
I love the b/ham Market, you get some good bargains.
Good open market fresh fruit and general stalls. Good electronic products available
Interesting indoor market.
Shame a lot of the stalls were closed let's hope it's running to full capacity soon
Always a good atmosphere, shame to see more empty stalls after the impact of lockdown!
Got a couple of real bargains...very happy to serve you😊

Vibrant friendly market, always something new to see
Excellent 😊 experience, love shopping here
All traders goods are not different from each other and are low quality! Better go to the supermarket, and it is cheaper and better quality. The meat and fish look like are not very fresh.
Nice place. Diversity. Good prices. Interesting place
The heart of Birmingham (can't be ripped out but Andy Street et al are having a good go at it).
Beautiful to see didn't try anything there but was lovely to see.
Good location low price for vegetables and fruits with good quality
Love it a lot of fruit and vegetables very cheap
Excellent market, ship prices, everything 👌 available.
Nice little place filled with since you didn't know existed
Just needs a good face lift.... what wrong with BCC.... fix it up.
An excellent place to find affordable local goods and a wide selection of items.
Wow. I didn't buy anything but they sure do have everything you need & didn't know u needed
Good mix of bits from househild to footwear...a bit for everyone : )
Very expensive and the same stalls over and over but food and drinks lovely
Brilliant place to shop! Friendly market place
Still busy like it used to be. But not the same atmosphere
Very nice, so very convenient to shop .
This is a great place to visit and worship
Cheap but good quality items. All in one
Lots of shops and restaurants! Huge range of products. Many, just a sea of people ))
So much choice here. The markets are great.
The market used to be a nice friendly place to shop with a wide choice of fresh fruits, craft materials, fabrics, jewellery, stationary. It is now like ghost town where theres a lot of intimidation, harassmemt and bullying by rude security guards who treat everyone like criminals and call the police quite often. Sure there are problems eg alcoholism but unfortunately most of the staff have no people skills, no identification on them and refuse to give it when asked. They travel in 2s and 3s and follow people around even preventing customers frim buying. 2 incidents to date with a new member of staff who called police on me, suggested i go home when i said i was sitting on the ledge because i was diabetic. This man sided with and condoned racism from a stallholder and minutes after calling police allowed a white man to openly sit and drink alcohol on the same ledge. Days later the security man who refused to give me his name called police again and lied that he had told me to move from an empty stall where i was scratching cards. The police and some security spend their time picking on people and like the Bull Ring centre staff insist that you cannot look at anything without buying. Gone r the days when we relaxed in the market, could laugh and joke with stallholders, browse the goods. Some of the staff are obvious need of duversity / equality training. Their covid 19 rules and regulations consisted of shouting, "no gathering", even when people were with support workers and carers. I waited over half an hour to see a manager and last week when a stall holder sold me a 'new" 2nd hand rusty trolley where the wheel fell off after 2 hours i was told there was no market police and then they couldn't find me a complaints form. Standards in this market have changed for the worse.
Goid selection of stuff badly maintained by Birmingham Council but not stall holders fault
Good Asian stuff at a very cheap price...
Good variety if cheap household items.
The view was stunning with people following covid procedures
Cheaper some time good quality.
Great for your local products decent deals
I've this place,because everything u need is there😃👍👈👏❤👌
Cool place for having a look round! Ace
Interior is well established and highly productive
Suite and easy to get things you will need it
Bit toght if u are a wheelchair user but there is access
Great market for fruit & veg, with great prices!!
Fantastic variety of fruit and great prices!
Some interesting stalls. Definitely not as good value for money as some markets!
Perfect place of all kind of.shopping
What you would expect from a rag market. Numerous stalls. Cheap prices
Good deals and bargins
Not too bad not as busy as it used to be
Great bargains and lots of stalls
You can get everything from clothes to foodstuffs and other items there. You just have to find the stall that has what you want.
We don't have markets here in Lurgan it was and brilliant.
Disappointed with number of stalls that weren't food or drink
Loved this place for over 30 years ❤️
Great shopping and friendly people
Can someone tell me the name of the place in there that sell t-shirts of metal bands
Lot of stores have closed not the same now
Good, didnt have a problem with social distances.
Cheap bargains, but you need to be careful
You can get almost everything from there
Not the same as it used to be .... Stalls have reduced since Covid and atmosphere isn't the same. Still lots of bargains around... Lovely fruit and veg selection , best bit is you can pick your own fruit.... Lovely day out 👍🏻
so big wonderful experience.
Wide variety, good prices
Food great service helpful
Very good displays for Christmas 🎄
You can literally get any continents merchandise here
Always worth a visit
Low prices for good produce.
If you are filipino, defos a Quiapo to you
Best market ever ♥️
Is not what it was to be before BCC closed the whole sale market. Apart from one or two stalls, the quality of fruit and vegetable is such a rubbish. Still you can get it cheaper as in the super markets, Chilly Billy top shop and stall. So sad that the dairy stall is gone as well. Caribbean stalls I do not know, they are well visited though
Really great market, got all of food items that you can't really find in the standard super market. Definitely worth checking out
Not as good as it was, to many empty stalls
I buy my fresh fruits from that market
Always can get a bargain
Enjoyed going there
Always a fun time!!
Good market with lots of choice.
A wide range of products sold here for low prices. Quality of products are decent, however the area in which you walk is heavily crowded and there isn't a lot of distancing going on. It also doesn't look like it's cleaned as much as it should be but other than that it's a good place to grab cheap deals on various items.
Different culture under one roof
Great place to visit
It is really cheap and nice
Not as big as I remember
Lots of stores with cheap clothing.
Good place for shopping
Very good pizza
Be careful there are thifes
Good place for bargains
It wasn't actually the market that I visited as such but 'Yoshee' which is a nail salon which is a separate shop within the market. I have been using it for over 1 year now and I really like how they do my gel nails there. There's also microdermabrasion and depilatory treatments as well as other treatments.
Good place to go
TOP ⬆️
Cheap quality fruit and veg
Best place to shop
Great fish market
This is nice place
These are big markets, loved rummaging around. There's so much stuff here. Indoor and outdoor. Food, vegetables, clothes, shoes, material...you name it, it's there. Well worth a look around.
A rag market is a place where secondhand clothes and other items are sold. These markets are often found in developing countries where there is a high demand for inexpensive clothing. The clothes are typically collected from Western countries and sold in these markets at a fraction of the cost of new clothing.
Rag markets can be beneficial in several ways. They provide affordable clothing to people who might not be able to afford new clothes, and they also help to reduce waste by recycling used clothing. In addition, rag markets can provide employment opportunities for people who collect and sell the clothes.
On the other hand, there are some concerns about the environmental and social impact of rag markets. Some critics argue that the export of used clothing from Western countries to developing countries can harm local textile industries and reduce the demand for locally produced clothing. Additionally, the disposal of unsold or unwanted clothing from rag markets can also create environmental problems.
Overall, while there are both benefits and drawbacks to rag markets, they serve an important role in providing affordable clothing and reducing waste. It's important to balance the benefits with the potential negative impacts and work towards sustainable solutions for the clothing industrty
Every kind of thing can be found here, even cheaper
My go to place when I'm doing up my house.
A place bustling with people from all walks of life. Always brings back childhood memories of the old Bull Ring market.
Managed to get some beautiful fabric at a bargain and some fruit too.
Nice church well worth a visit
Always a great place to grab a bargain
Not as good as back in the day going here for certain things still cheaper but most things you can find in other places for better quality and price depends. Layout hasn’t changed could do with a redecoration and better stalls considering how many years it’s been there would have thought an update would have happened by now
With all that's going on nowadays, it's good to know that there's somewhere you can get a bargain and value for money. Fresh fruits and vegetables, home items and meats, sea fish, materials and repairs. Birmingham still has a market! 600 years plus, don't lose what's there for us the People's market!👑❤️🙌🏾💯👍🏾
Went to buy fabric. Wasn't disappointed with the huge range on offer, great quality and price and friendly and helpful stall holders. We are not local, but somehow I know we will be back!
So fun! There was loads of amazing fruit and veg in great condition - and shout-out to the stall with the SUPER cheap maybelline/loreal/revlon cosmetics (two lipsticks for a fiver??? Foundation for under a fiver?????)
Good place for day today food needs. A lot of fruit and vegetables freshly cut available.
You can get duck eggs here. Also curtain, sofa fabrics are also available.
This market has everything I did not expect to see. I'm excited, and vow to shop here day after day. The prices are amazing.
Steve G.
A place that is almost from my childhood. But not quite. I was born in the 70's and this market replaced the one I really loved. But time moves on and this is still a great place to lose yourself for a few hours. You can find everything you'd possibly need all under one roof. The market stall holders are still full of characters like you'd expect from true Brummies. Go treat yourself and get down there sharpish!
Exellent place plenty ov bargains if u need trainers or clothes see alan he's the man
Good for looking about, a very large variety of stalls
Rag market is a very interesting place to go. I used to go to the old rag market with my mother in the old days when I was young.
You can get anything and everything at a bargain prices.
It's an OK place to shop the walkways are very tight and crowded. Some good quality stock, but if you're going to buy cheap expect cheap produce as you get what you pay for.
The Market,is a great place for shopping ie food, items of clothing, footwear, phone repairs & new phones to buy! The indoor market & outside marketplace offers are great value for money!!!
You will get clean, affordable, fresh vegetables and fruits here. Also meat. There's fabric, threads and shoe stalls on the other side as well, all at affordable prices
Great place to go for a bargain get a top brand watch from £3 an you can get your watch batteries charged from £1 never more than £2 proper bargain just check out the watch man opposite cafe Nero inbtween rag market and the fish market open Tuesday an Saturday
Not enough customers will eventually lose our Markets,...need to support these stalls... ,still a lot of bargains to be had..so get the bus ,grab your bags go visit the market....
Took family for the first time to the markets. They absolutely loved it. So many shops. Fruits and veg… butchers and fish mongers. Great buzz around the place.
Excellent place for ethnic fabrics, ornaments mobile accessories and religious artifacts. Multi ethnic shopping and fascinating diversity of goods.
Not as good as the old days; but you can still obtain a good price on fruit and veg. Nice to view the pics inside of the market of Vendors who have passed on and to reminisce on time gone by x
Lovely old church in the heart of Brum.
A very sad looking place. Debenhams is closed. It feels like the city has lost one of its limbs. So sorry to see even some of the market stalls were not there any more. We need to get out and shop in the real world and get the heart beat back to the city.
I always pass through the market on my way to church St Martin's is one of my favourite churches and the market have some lovely fruit and veg stalls which are nice and cheap and the food is good quality
It is a routine visit for our daily needs. Feel happy to see the glowing faces of the traders vying with each other to impress the customers.
Still a decent place to shop, surprised to see a few stalls have shut down and some closing, even though it was only mid afternoon.
Always the best and been going here since childhood so much memories. Born and bred in Birmingham and if you haven't seen the rag markets you ain't seen nothing. Best place for everything.
Loved it there should be more markets like this across the country, nice atmosphere and cheap, Wales definitely needs markets like this
Good selection of meats to browse and get your deal
Lovely Place to shop, even though normality has gone out of the window nice to get back into the shops and have a mooch around while we still have shops too mooch around in
Terrible. Car parks closed down. Roads closed on top of that hardly and market traders. Awful. Waste of a journey into town. Such a shame. Was a lovely place to go
This place has lots to offer. Heaps of things you didn't know you needed. Near one if the exits is a food truck that offers pancakes!! I think it was NennandPops. 👍👍
Absolute gem in Birmingham. You can buy fresh produce here which are comparable to a benchmark supermarket product. A good bargain. You can get fruit and vegetables, frozen food, utensils and more.
Visit the food store on corner of main building. Absolute bargains. Plus the boxing shop on opposite side is very good quality merchandise
Met 'Alex' the amazing homeless man statue..could not take my eyes off him..after a while I realised I was crying the whole experience was profoundly moving..
Not really hoping this Xmas will have its soul back
Very wide selection of fruits and veg from many parts of the globe. Must visit
Love that this church is open to shoppers. Went in and had a time of reflection. Gorgeous building
Fantastic market. A wide variety of stalls. Absolute bargains can be found.
It's a morning market where you can get a variety of products from everyday essentials to fresh fruits and vegetables.
Outside stalls are pretty much bare not alot going on ,inside some stalls are always closed early so that is annoying .
But there is a good variety .
I had my ears pierced and the lady was super nice, the place was clean and reasonable prices, I recommend it👍🏾
Good old market fresh food and cheap you can get everything you need.
It's a fantastic place to shop the old fashioned way. Trust me you gotta give it a try.
Still one the most different, shopping experience, all the stalls are run by brumys
If you can't find it the rag market will
Great. Got just what we needed in cloth and joss sticks very cheap. 20 for a pound.
I hope this place doesn't get toen down but unfortunately, this maybe a throwback to an age gone by. We should all enjoy those place whilst we still can.
I was born in Birmingham and have fond memories of the "Rag"
I always enjoy wandering up and down the aisles, it has a unique atmosphere.
The market has alot to offer, in terms of fabric, incense, treads, and more. The meat and the vegetables market is on opposite side which is good.
I don't feel thatca lot of the produce is very fresh nor long lasting tbh sadly
Really interested and authentic market with ampules of stalls selling everything to anything. I always go and have a wonder round and have a look when I'm in Birmingham.
They say that you can get anything you want down here, total rubbish. But i do love the bargains at the bedding store inside the market's
Great market friendly people I been going for years their a lady at the bottom of the market which sells herbs also the lady that sells the socks on a Saturday
Good market for some things , fabrics , clothes ,used and new some ironmongery /do it yourself /screws ,nails tools etc ,well worth a visit .

It's a really cool place to find all sorts of cheap, affordable or expensive stuff...
You find all sorts of fresh organic fruits, vegetables and other items at very affordable prices.
I love this market. I travel to get here so it must be good, also the traders are friendly.
Not been in here for a few years, quite surprised at how many stalls still trading plus new ones, it's obviously doing well.
Had a lovely day out at food show and gardens n plant displays
What more could a thriving historical city ask for? Birmingham has everything and then some more. Thanks Birmingham!
Went to the German market and it was a very enjoyable experience would recommend this place to anyone looking for a different experience.
