Reviews of Bobby's Bournemouth
T. F.
Great food, loved the seaweed salad. The dumplings were pretty special too. Not the cheapest place to eat but it's now one of my special occasion places.
P. P.
Brilliant that we have a (free)gallery showing contemporary / modern art in Bournemouth. It's a great space exhibiting art that can be challenging but I liked it all the more for that. Hearing about the background / context of some pieces had an impact. It is also a relaxing and contemplative place if you need a break from the hustle and bustle.

Bobby's has become my go to spot in Bournemouth town centre. Such a great mix of local artists and small businesses, as well as well known high street brands. Particularly enjoy the maker's market upstairs which keeps the store fresh and different with each visit. It's dog friendly too, which is always a plus in my book!

Replacing Debenhams, Bobby's is still effectively being developed, but now offers a range of concessions the ground floor, not that different to what was there before, a regular 'makers market' and cafe and, long overdue in Bournemouth, a fabulous open-space art gallery.
Really looking forward to see what else is coming!

Department store with a difference there is a gallery that puts on art exhibitions etc which is very different to when it was Debenhams. The facade has been restored to how it looked when it was Bobby's and now you can look out of the upper floor windows and get a very different view of the square and the gardens. It's a work in progress that is looking very good so far.

Great to have in town. Champagne and cocktail bar, coffee shop and large cosmetic section. Huge space for upcoming use overlooking the square on the upper floor. Some local produce makes it a great addition to the area.

Upstairs on the second floor is a wonderful craft Market with some unusual items & gift ideas. We'll worth a visit as it finishes after the Easter Weekend. On the third floor there is a photo exhibition all for free. B

I don't think it's fully opened yet. But yes it was nice to see that the Debenhams site that was bobby's in the old days is being revamped. Saw a fashion show by the university students which was really nice and it seems ok. Usual perfume and make up ground floor store with dark bar/cafe attached. Pretty expensive but nice to look around and try the free samples. Good for the minority shoppers who can afford the ground floor. Fashion show also had eco stuff going on. Old fashioned jumble sale so more down to earth. Looking good. Hope it does well
K. B.
A beautiful old building that has a few local independent stores on the first floor with a rather peculiar gallery on the second floor! Ground floor consists of a females heaven "make up and perfume" well for my wife certainly with a restaurant and tea room.
S. T.
Bobby's itself is classy department store where all the best brands are available.
However, the first floor is rented out to individual creative people selling a wonderful mixture of beautiful unusual goods. I bought several presents in preparation for Christmas 😊
R. T.
Still needing a lot of work, staff look sad and bored. Urban decays stand was practicaly empty compared to how it used to be :( no energetic vibe anymore. Everytime I visit something is being changed, blocked off and removed.
Would love more department store options to help with the lack of highstreet stores closing.

Decent, but so far all there is to see on the actual shopping area is beauty products and some sweets and local preserves. Restaurant looks nice, and makers market is a relatively good idea while the aviary is being restored. Art gallery however is a BIG no... while there are some nice pieces of work, recently I had the horror to see a feminist section that wasn't pleasant on the eyes and screamed extreme. The fact that no trigger warning was put up, if children were to go see it, they'd probably be mortified. They should reconsider what they put on offer in the gallery, preferably appropriate pieces that illuminate the art courses taken by our local uni students.
J. K.
I was disappointed when I visited the store for the first time. I was expecting so much more than was on offer. Perhaps as time progresses there will be more to see and buy. It is a large store and the only department store in Bournemouth, a great opportunity.
W. S.
It was a bit disappointing to be honest. Downstairs was much like debenhams apart from a beauty salon and the dragonfly cafe/bar. First floor has another cafe/bar with random seats and an art gallery. The pictures were so spaced out and fairly weird. Hopefully will be better once its finished

We’ve been to the new Bobby’s a couple of times and liked what we’ve seen. Only the ground floor is currently open for retail sales, whilst the first floor is a unique art gallery. It will be interesting to see what is ultimately done with the remaining upper floors. The ground floor has been beautifully refurbished and we particularly enjoyed the oriental-style cafeteria/restaurant. Clearly, a lot of money is being spent on making Bobby’s top-class but merchandise on sale is quite expensive and I do wonder if it can survive long-term in these difficult times. Very well worth a visit, though.

Nice place to look for good branded products.
If you are looking for perfumes this is the place, you have all of them available and you can try them.
looking for clothes, I'm sure you can find something that suits you.
Fancy artwork, pop in for the art gallery on the upper floor.
C. M.
Conscientious department store with a real effort to promote local brands! Definitely worth a visit!
R. C.
Loved the 1st floor, full of hand-made crafts of all sorts. Plus a coffee area. 2nd floor mentioned Art, but I didn't visit it.
E. S.
Love what they’re doing with this place. Will be so wonderful to see it fully restored but we enjoying being part of their journey and so glad to see such a prominent building in the town get the love it deserves
G. H.
A really fantastic group of small independent craft stalls selling a range of jewelry, plants, tableware, cards and loads more. Go grab a coffee from Bad Hand on the ground floor and head up.
A. P.
First time of visiting..lovely friendly staff and the coffee was delicious. Definitely be visiting again
J. S.
Had a lovely time here with friends. Still lots to open which is exciting. The staff were really friendly and had a long chat with us about plans for the future of Bobby's. Watch this space
B. W.
A bit eclectic with what seems a high class beauty and makeup area on the ground floor and more craft and children's area upstairs.
R.
First time visit to buy a gift. Top marks for the store layout, very pleasant, bright and welcoming. Every product well displayed and priced. Top of the range cosmetics, very pleasant and helpful staff. Definitely a store to return to I highly recommend a visit.
S. P.
A lot of the stock seems very expensive - supposedly 'artisan' items selling at inflated prices. Perfume on the ground floor is pretty similar to how it was, when this store was Debenhams. The art gallery on the 2nd floor is somewhat off the wall for a place like Bournemouth.
K. G.
More of a rating of the popup Christmas Market upstairs. Really great way to give space for local sellers, absolutely loved seeing all the different stalls in an indoor market that didn't feel a bit dingy. Great variety of stalls and a lovely cafe. Would love to see more of this sort of thing especially as bournemouth high street has seen so many shops close recently.
S. C.
Our first visit today after the extensive renovation of the old Debenhams site. Lovely to see some original fixtures and fittings being brought back to life from when it was originally Bobby's. We loved the Art Gallery and pop-up market... long may they continue.
We can't wait for the next phase to start and uncover more of this delightful building.
Well done team, it's looking amazing. 👍
C.
A brave attempt to re-start the old Bobby's department store. At present there are some good craft stalls operating. There is an interesting art gallery on the second floor - something Bournemouth has lacked.
T. V. “. A.
What they've done with the old Debenhams is brilliant. The perfumery is like the old Debs one with very similar prices. Gallery upstairs was enlightening and fun...well worth a visit.
The new Sushi serves some amazing dishes and not stupid prices.
J. M.
The ground floor feels exactly as before with the cosmetic counters, went up to the first floor, the cafe area was ok, could do with more seats but food was nasty, drinks were good and value for money.
A lot of the stall holders weren't wearing masks and no one seemed to know where to go or where you should be, hopefully a few signs going up will help.
There is still more to go in there, so hopefully it will improve, but the stall holders must put masks on at this time is a basic and simple change that would make a difference.
J. D.
These stars are for the watch kiosk. From batteries to timepiece refurbishment excellent.
C. C.
Such a brilliant restoration of this stunning building! Well-done! It's really bought a sense of community back to Bournemouth and we love the makers market and Giant art gallery.
M. B.
I love this place. The renovations are already amazing and they will only get better as the next phases open. Very excited to try the Sushi and I already have my eye on some specialist gin from the Makers Market. Just what British high streets need.
S. M.
I have had Elisabeth Arden for some years and find jasmine friendly and helpful.
J. C.
Glad to see something taking over the old Debenhams building. Bobby's in the ground floor has some of the spirit of Debenhams. The art exhibition on the first floor may not be to all tastes but is worth a look.
R. B.
Interesting place. Makers market looked fun. Hopefully it will expand & still be running in 12 months... Watch this space....
Bournemouth Council... Please look at Bristol City centre and their pop ups which works really well...
S. P.
Beautifully crafted coffees, great care and attention from the staff. As an allergy sufferer I always worry trying somewhere new but at Bobby's I walk in and have no fear because the staff remember me and understand. Try the vegan ice cream! You will not be disappointed.
C. B.
Beautifully and tastefully renovated, it’s wonderful to see a company caring so much about our high street and bringing it back to life. The atmosphere is buzzy and all the staff are kind and helpful when guiding you around the interesting offerings Bobby’s has. My pooch loved droll and we’ll definitely be returning!
K.
Still only one floor open, rest saying coming soon but nice to see a replacement shop in that still stock a huge range of brands.
Had a nice pop up Xmas market on leave two too
B. R.
Not all floors open yet. Appears to be selling the same products as Debenhams did. Wanted to explore the Pet shop but it's no longer there - only a couple of shelves selling doggie treats, doggie foods. Not sure if I'll visit this shop again
M. K.
I love the makers market, finally a place that enables local and small businesses the thrive in central bournemouth.
A. P.
Very nice but needs more floors open. Loving the retro looks of doors
N. P.
Not finished yet refurbishment. Can see will be nice store.
D. F. &. T. P. P.
Bobby's is a fab addition to Bournemouth. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the store including DRGNFLY Sushi Bar and Bobby’s Ice Cream Parlour. The Drool bar (access via lower gardens rather than store) was great for our dog and Sushi really good for us. Ice cream was the perfect ending.
B. H.
Nice to see this building back in use. Local indoor market an impressive addition
M. S. S.
Lovely relaxed layout in store snd the Market floor was fantastic. Its still growing and presumabky over time will expand through all floors but this is a great start snd it has the makings of a top store.
L. R.
Had a really lovely time visiting Bobby's for the first time today - it's exciting to have such a buzzy new space in Bournemouth. Definitely worth a visit, if only for the dog food hall!
T. B.
Amazing concept still in early development will be exciting to see how it evolves.
Nice to walk into a department store which is something different with staff enthused and excited about where they work.
Well worth a visit.
J. R.
Love this venue, especially when they have South Coast Makers in.
M. L.

Great shopping experience.
Lovely new refurbished shop.
Window displays. Superb.
ART exhibition on 1first .very interesting.
D. B.
Nice to see that Debenhams hasn't gone to waste, but currently Bobby's is a bit empty. Hopefully overtime it will become a landmark of Bournemouth.
F. C.
It was set out like an old style department store but with different sections and shops
G. L.
Will be great when fully opened. Ok so far.
E. R.
Great use of an ex-Debenhams building.
S. F.
Amazing opening at Bobby’s! Some beautiful products in the South Coast Makers section and the ice cream is delicious!
