Reviews of Crown Glass Shopping Centre
J. F.
Liked the general shopping area. I'm visiting friends but know the area quite well as have visited before and always like popping down there. The new-ish independent café, the Ivy, in the high street is really nice and they do amazing homemade cake and lovely paninis. Could do with a cheaper supermarket as Waitrose and Tesco's are expensive.
P. H.
With Tesco Waitrose here and its rumoured that one of the German supermarkets may be coming this place gets bettef and better. Its still not quite as swish as it could be but therevis a lot going for it. So ignore the bland 1960ish style. Its got most of the retail things you actually want and the style may be about to get a makeover.
D. B.
Typical 60’s concrete, not much to look at but some decent shops eg Waitrose, Boots, Iceland together with local independent businesses and good parking. Also a Tesco a little further away. Good enough for our weekly needs.
M. B.
Good variety of shops from pound shop to boots or Costa coffee if you fancy it. Parking is free and a good size car park plus supermarket and pet shop amongst manyore
-. B.
Outdated is the 1st impression, lots of free parking 👍.
Some big brands (Costa Superdrug Greggs) Still holding on, lots of empty units very sad Burchills is closing in July (fruit&veg shop).
With all these new houses in the area this must be the time for a rethink.
M. P.
A lovely little place full of little gems to discover.. All made better by the easy parking that's very close by.
T. P.
Very 60's concrete plaza style shopping centre, but well laid out and nicely kept.
M. G.
Nice central square with free parking. Several coffee shops. Unfortunately toilets closed..
m. m.
A good range of shops and supermarkets. Time restricted parking. Public toilets, they need a bit of attention, they're situated near the doctors surgery. Sitting areas in the square. Nice to see a library. I like the look of this shop. It's Chic blooms, they're a florist, but with silk flowers love it
A. H.
Standard small town shopping centre, bonus of free parking has a Waitrose WHsmith,Boots,Greggs,Costa and some independent shops.
C. W.
Nice shopping centre, nice selection of independent shops, very clean with friendly feeling.
n. w.
Nice little town centre it just shops are empty which is such a shame
J. H.
Fab place. Great staff! Only spoilt, as usual by noisy children running riot whilst parents are blissfully unaware
J. I.
Lovely staff, food great, fab place to meet up with friends..would recommend! Do visit!
S. T.
Good shopping center loads of free parking places to eat 😋
J.
I went to buy some wines at Waitrose but was disappointed as they had reorganised the layout of this section and did not have the wines I expected. However, outside there was a street market with a lot of stalls that had a good selection of products.
B. H.
Good selection of shops, including Waitrose, Boots, Iceland and Post Office, plus coffee shops and adjacent to Nailsea High Street. Free parking!!!
D. L.
I find it a very useful area. Good supermarket and an excellent fruit and vegetables shop. They have chemists, a furniture shop and several cafes. The health centre is close by. Also what I call odds and bobs shops
B. D.
Useful selection of shops, cafes, library and health centre. Couple of good pubs in vicinity. Free parking. Update: continues to provide a good local resource. Great independent fruit, veg and flower shop alongside the good chains. Waitrose, Iceland, WH Smith, Specsavers, Superdrug, etc. A few of other independent shops and good coffee shops.
S. B.
You know, this is an under-stated shopping experience - they have some fabulous shops in the area with regular outdoor flower markets. For a small town, Nailsea is blessed with this commercial haven. It was brilliantly conceived and integrates so well with the adjacent high street (it is very diverse and not cluttered with charity shops - there are a couple).
Our primary reason for the visit was Waitrose, and anyone reading our reviews will know we have a passion for them. However there is a fantastic Tesco a stick’s throw away with a fuel station offering good prices. If you have never been to Nailsea - we would highly recommend it, the shops and hospitality facilities will keep you occupied for a few hours.
M. D.
A lot of the shops have closed down and there's only one bank but there's a friendly post office
B. P.
It looks a little sparse here but you can actually get most things you will probably need. You can park for free right next to it. On either side you have a good range of shops and the high street. I enjoy Nailsea and often visit for stuff I need.
E. H.
Decent range of shops, and plenty of open space. My son loved the small playground in the middle (designed for smaller children only), and it was good to discover the Nailsea Community Larder (offering food donated by supermarkets and other local businesses free of charge to the public, which would otherwise have gone to waste!) - didn't know it existed before!
L.
Brutalist concrete architecture is everywhere.
You won't see a library run by such wonderful staff like it anywhere in the country. It's privately owned but stuck in the 1960s hard concrete architecture. It could do with softening up.and cheering up.
However if you want Waitrose, a fantastic hardware store, independent opticians , ethical shopping, furniture store , a bank that's still open , a Post Office and grocers to name but some this is the place.
A. S.
It a nice little shopping centre. A nice selection of different shops including, banks, post office and supermarkets coffee shops and chemists. There are a selection of interesting independent shops too. In the middle is a small play area to entertain the children and there is also a unique octagon shaped library
N. H.
Not a massive selection of shops here, but it has got better over time. For a local town shopping it has most of your needs. Would just be nice to see a few more clothes shops (men's) and some more local businesses.
All in all though its a nice enough shopping Centre for local needs.
P.
Waitrose was more competitive than expected
T. N.
Good little precinct. Lots of shops to choose from and a good selection to boot. Little playground in the centre that is perfect to let the little tikes burn off some energy.
M. L.
Offers many nice shops, including bakeries, Waitrose, Craft shops, and a fantastic fruit and veg shop, among others.
L. M.
Pretty good selection of shops however a few empty buildings around the area. Nice play area for kids in the middle with plenty of benches. Good amount of walkway to keep out of the rain. Waitrose is a real plus. There's always a queue in Boots, a staffing issue or just very busy I'm not sure. I tend bit too shop there because of it. Bit run down generally but services are pretty good.
p. h.
We have a few fantastic independent business in Nailsea just wish there were more....like every high street or town center it's has a lot of charity shops and hair salons- all of which do a good service but it would be great if there was a greater range of shops.
J. E.
Love Nailsea...friendly smiley people, plenty of shops. It's clean, safe, free parking and just a pleasant shopping experience, unlike Bristol city centre which is far too busy..there's a superdrug, Boots, M&co, a couple of cafes and a library, some lovely charity shops and Holland and Barrett...phew 👍and more 👀
J. F.
Speed is for a coffee and cake at cafe 119 whist on a bike ride from Bristol, very enjoyable
C. F.
A lovely square, nice to WALK through - depressing how many parents cycle past the 'NO CYCLING' signs with their children - no wonder respect for authority is so messed up in 2021! 'Learn to read' would be my first thought - often think to challenge them in French or German, on the basis that they cant read English (rather than assuming than are being bottom holes!)
A. P.
Was once a lovely area to go shopping, now a lot of shops have closed or are due to close. Only the very common chains remain which is a shame really.. hardly anything for the middle generation. No retail outlet type stores anymore other than new look which is tiny.
A choice of coffee shops and cafes, charity shops galore, supermarkets, beauty shops and hairdressers/barbers and a pet store all within a couple of minutes walk from each other. No more natwest.
There is a cute little park in the centre for the children though, a big library which is thankfully still open.. places to shelter from the rain and places to smoke and places to sit. Plenty of parking and public toilets are accessible enough.
M. A.
It looked like they were short staffed when we turned up, nearly every table had not been cleaned
B. B.
Tired and dated with lots of vacant shops and buildings
M. D.
Good selection of shops. All seem to have really friendly staff!! Prices are really reasonable. Plenty of opportunity to have coffee, lunch or a pint. Good parking (free)
C. R.
Great place to go for your day to day shipping if you happen to be in Nailsea. It has everything you need if charity shops are your interest. Oh and it also has a Waitrose. Their car park is very conveniently located.
h. c.
It's a Saturday its lovely and sunny and a week after lockdown April 21 the road is shut down for the produce market which is always so cool to look at and chat to the stall holders most of the shops are open but queuing is a thing so if your in a rush don't bother people ate friendly and civil and it's a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning 😀
P. C.
Nailsea's shopping centre. Good range of shops and the best farmers market in the area on the third Saturday of the month. Also stroll along to Simply Green in the High Street for plastic free purchases.
G. R.
Was here to do some shopping. Found it very easy to park and we did some shopping and then went to the Wetherspoon pub for a meal. Found all we wanted very easily. Only thing is shame that there are so many empty shops. Though things are improving with a large Costa Coffee recently opened.
A. J.
A sense of community, that continues in strength even though there is a lack of variety, in the shops that remain open. Struggle what struggle. People chatting with friends and neighbours, children playing in the newly refurbished play area, Tuesday market with loyal stalls. Cafe's, shops, supermatkets, and greengrocers that employ local people. With a friendly smile and a welcoming attitude.
c. B.
Very good shopping centre, alittle bit old fashioned, but thats how i like them
J. G.
Free parking for 3 hours and a good range of shops... much better than weston... where you have to pay to walk around empty shops
o. c.
Very friendly service at Mc and M.
2.
Decent outdoors shopping centre with fresh air and good shops. No chavs evident, quietly, peaceful and a decent place for families. Good Waitrose and easy parking. Very pleasant place to shop with no hideous air con and no muzac or pop blaring out, thank god. Recommended, how shopping should be.
W. F.
Crown Glass has all the shops and services of a small town although just 20 minutes from Bristol. Being a late '60s or early '70s development it's a hideous brutal and inflexible design but still getting a lot of use and actually busy on a Saturday morning so I can't knock it!
D. E.
Great shopping are... area has a great pedestrian zone with free parking ... everything you need is close by; Iceland, Waitrose, Tesco, Costa, Boots, Superdrug not to mention the Library and health centre many more shops and a friendly vibe that keeps the village glowing :-)
E. S.
Nice little place to have a walk around. Fair few different shops
J. M.
Good range of shops. Pleasant pedestrian space. Near bus stops.
A. W.
It's pleasant, light and airy and has an informal atmosphere. Staff were polite and service was prompt.
I marked it down because, my partner and I both ordered a Roasted Veg pizza, which on first inspection looked OK. But, on cutting into them, we were both very disappointed. The outside crust was cooked but the whole of the centre (dough) was raw and un cooked!
It was unedible!! Won't be ordering pizza again.
O. C.
Good local.shoping , like every has a few empty shops but good
C. B.
It has everything you need, can be a bit hit and miss with cleanliness etc but a nice place to wonder down and mooch around.
K. R.
Lots of shops shut down sadly which is why I have only given it the 3star rating. Please be careful with your parking keep an eye on the time!!
J. N.
Great offers in Waitrose.
L. C.
Plenty of parking in surrounding area and free, shops prettyuch laid out as a square, not all shops are open though the main retailers are, and eating and drinking venues give a fair choice.
J. D.
This is a small local shopping centre with both a Waitrose and a Tesco. The are most if the normal national high street name present and a few local independent businesses. It does seemtohavealot of charity shops too. There is lots of free parking.
G. S.
I managed to successfully find clothes for two baby nieces at Waitrose, then M&Co at affordable prices thanks to ongoing discounts of a few Pounds per item, which allowed me to make about 1/3 savings.
Staff at M&Co were quite helpful with explanations, ready to make suggestions.
J. S.
Best idea ever. Bellies not bins! Food destined for landfill, but still edible, available for free.
More towns should follow suit.
O. D.
It's got a good sized car park but a lot of shops have closed down recently so it seeems a bit sparse. There is a small play area for kids and it's wheelchair and pram friendly, with ramps by the steps.
D. H.
Not bad but lack of variety of shops
C. B.
Nice blend of shops and cafes
M. J.
I think this place has character! It's a concrete statement of 1970s hope, utility and creation! Particularly of note is the library... Where else can you find a guttering/drainage system made of concrete and chains?! This building should be listed IMHO.
K. O.
What a lot of beautiful handmade craft and beautiful people xx
P. S.
Nailsea precinct saw a food festival, Victorian fair and ping pong hall over the last couple of years which made me feel like it was finally heading in the right direction. There's a New Look, Superdrug, Waitrose and Costa and other convenient stop-offs. As per most non-prominent towns, private holdings seem to have their eye on any shuttered shop in Nailsea and seem to want to throw up a shoezone, betfair, M&Co. That said, I think the council are going some way to try and increase and icentivise the number of local businesses. Hopefully they get the funding they need to help employ others and make a good go of it all.
A. P.
Good place to go to get your chores done. The jewels in the crown are Waitrose and Parsons' bakery. Most of the rest are so-so, but you'll get everything done that you need to, and there's free parking etc.
T. W.
In some need of TLC but a good place to come and grab your essentials in Nailsea. If you're in need of a haircut you've come to the right place. I think half of Somerset's hair salons must be around here! There's a kids play area which is almost always in use which is fantastic to see.
J. H.
It is overall a nice place to be. All the shops and food outlets are conveniently close together, with a wide range of choices.
M. B.
Crown Glass Shopping Centre in the middle of Nailsea, offers a convenient retail facility with free parking nearby. The largest store is a Waitrose supermarket and cafe, but there is also Boots the Chemist, Superdrug, WH Smith, Poundland, New Look, and a Costa Coffee Shop. A bank (HSBC), travel agent, clothes and shoe shops; not to mention alternative green grocers, newsagents and chemists also provide for a range of day to day needs. A public library is also available.
Although not the most aesthetically designed buildings, the extensive traffic-free piazza is a bonus and big enough to host a weekly market.
P. S.
Everything is nice and close, generally friendly service, 3 out of the four main banks still there, commercial rents are slightly too high to support some businesses, need a good DIY store, otherwise good variety for a large village
W. I.
Its not the best but it has everything u need from quick bites at gregs or the italian shops to indian and chinese and kebab shops to dominos pizza and lots of real estate agency and plenty of salon and massages. It also has a parking space 3 hours for free and special disabled slots
S. S.
Great social place in Nailsea. A few shops such as New Look, Aaron's Pet Shop, The Card Factory, Café 911, Wetherspoons and WHSmiths.
A selection of supermarkets such as Iceland, Waitrose and Tescos is only up the highstreet.
There's a small park for young children, and a library.
Normally my go to place to visit friends and run errands with a Post Office, Superdrug and Boots.
A few beauty places for the ladies with the fabulous Beauty Rooms and Hidden Beauty.
You can book a holiday with the help from Felicity at Butterfly Travel or pop into TUI.
All in all a lovely centre piece for the small town of Nailsea.
B. S.
I can only give a mid range star rating as I have only briefly stood in the main square to watch my daughter sing on the stage for the Christmas show held there, we will be coming over to wander around and have a nose in the shops ✌
J. M.
No architectural masterpiece but a convenient local shopping centre with a Waitrose, a number of small shops, pubs, restaurants, etc., and good free off-street parking with a large Tesco at the end of the high street.
s. l.
Lovey walk around sum nice shops
P. D.
In these days of dying high streets, this area of Nailsea is surviving quite well. There's Waitrose, Boots, Superdrug, WH Smith's, one of the big opticians and no less than three bank branches. Lots of local firms providing most of the services you need. It's nothing to look at, 60s pebble dashed concrete, but there's a smattering of pleasant trees to lessen the brutalist effect.
R. S.
Although not strictly designed for humans crown glass plaza will make a great place for the last stand against the shape shifting lizard people when the end times come. This is largely because it was planned as a distopian retro futurist fortress in a staggering act of foresight by Woodspring Council.
They are among us and will undoubtedly prevail but we must face them with dignity.
B. B.
Very helpful in setting up our new Wills - Gave lots of information to help us understand the process and how to keep local authorities away from money if the worst happens.
R. R.
If you live or near Nailsea small town worth a visit. A statue to one of tgecWorseks is there and it used to be a Glassworks town. Enjoy.
j. D.
great shopping center all the shop's you need from coffee shop's supermarkets and more plus 3 hours free car parking well worth a visit
C. S.
I didn't really explore, seems good for access but mostly just parked there for something specific
A. S.
Small number of shops to cater for all needs
A. M.
The first time I've been there and they were very good and the food was very very good so I should go back there again sometime
F. O.
Good for shopping and general browsing but run overtime and you are ripped off with a £60 parking fine not good for the traders trying to make a living.
M. B.
Great choice of shops and places to get a coffee or dinner with a small area for children too play
m. s.
A few great little shops but is rather run down which is such a shame.
C. K.
Fairly good selection of shops, the pandemic closed a couple of stores sadly.
j. j.
Lovely local shopping centre, has everything you need for a quick shop. Major supermarkets, bank green grocers.
T. R.

T. B.

M. C.
The Crown Glass Shopping Centre in Nailsea is an excellent place to visit. I would highly recommend anyone to take the time to visit this place.
N. R.
Not a big choice of shops, 3 banks a few charity shops, waitrose supermarket, whsmiths, poundshop, store 21, superdrug, specsavers, iceland and costa. A couple of independent shops
J.
Couple of good cafés, spoons is not bad as spoons go. A few average shops. Way better than Weston.
D. J.
Precinct wrapped around high street. Small and medium shops selling most things. Not under cover and mainly traffic free. Parking.
B. R.
Most of the shops open plenty of selection and verity, well worth the visit.
