Reviews of The Riverwalk
j. p.
Lovely scenic walk plenty coffee or alcohol stops.
Cafe bars restaurants.
Stunning at night as the castle way above on the hill is all lit with flood lights.
A. D.
Food and drinking establishments to suit most tastes along this riverside area. Eat and drink while enjoying views of the river and Durham Castle and Cathedral.
E. S.
I loved the atmosphere on a Saturday. Very busy especially when the weather is so warm and the sun is shining. Everyone is happy and cheerful. all are enjoying their time. Plenty of hen party groups doing crazy things. Lots of fun.
D. C.
I had a lovely walk first thing this morning! Best time when everyone in bed. Peaceful, beautiful scenery really enjoyed the whole experience! I would definitely recommend a visit. I certainly will be coming back.
M. G.
Always a pleasant walk especially before dinner in a nice restaurant. You wouldn't know you were in the middle of a city as you are surrounded by trees. Views of the cathedral are spectacular and it's always a pleasure to watch the rowing boats speeding up the river.
R. T.
Sat outside Old Tom's overlooking the river.
Nice view, end of the day, peaceful and relaxing. Great place for a drink.
Old Tom's makes a great talking point for anyone going inside.
C. H.
The river walk, like most parts of Durham is another amazing way to spend time relaxing around the features of the old city. I've lost count of the amount of times I've done the walk along the peaceful pathways & stepways, listening to the boats oaring by & birdsong. The ideal recreation for light exercise & sightseeing. Timeless.
W. L.
Open air shopping mall, restaurants and gift shops.
T. S.
The Riverwalk is set in what I believe to be the finest city in Britain. Set alongside the river Wear it affords fine views of Durham Cathedral and the Castle. There is a pleasing mixture of varying outlets to more than keep the "avid" shopper busy. Now the lockdown rules are gradually being removed, today in Durham City it was wonderful. The "buzz" is returning.
J. D.
The Riverwalk is clean and tidy with plenty of places to eat and drink.
There could be a better variety of shops though, more retail shops would help draw more people, and would make the Riverwalk more appealing.
M. H.
Better than the Millburngate shopping centre before. Still lacks quality shops and more choices of shops. While there are still shops spaces not taken up use of outlet's.
K. R. J.
Ok, so not everyone likes how Durham is developing. Riverwalk is built, controversially, around yet more student accommodation.
For the public, there's an Odeon Luxe Cinema, various eateries (food pit, cosy club, turtle bay, el pincho etc and apparently a Sambucca coming soon). These accompany a Chinese Buffet and a Thai Restaurant as well as Gin bars and then out into the rest of the city
Outside seating gives fabulous views over the Wear and Cathedral/Castle. It has a lovely Riverside vibe to it that other cities would just struggle to compete with. That is the beauty of the vision in creating Riverwalk and for that, the outgoing Labour authority deserved applause. With accommodation over the road in the shape of a new Premier Inn, as well as a Radisson along the river, this is a new centre for the city. Let's hope it gives this part of Durham a new vibe without destroying the charm of this beautiful city.
C. A.
Could be great especially for a night out just too many empty units spoils the look and feel. Hopefully will come together when otherside is up and running
S. B.
Beautiful scenery in autumn as the trees are turning many colours with the sound of water passing by. It has a lovely path for walkers and cycling. Many bridges and the castle and cathedral can be seen towering over the trees.
m. s.
Durham good shops and plenty of history. Well worth a visit
P. A. m.
It's a lovely walk on a beautiful day you get to meet new people and maybe make some new friends
l. s.
Durham odeon was fantastic my goodness sitting on comfy reclining seats and a tray to pull next to you they even sell alcohol. Perfect night out but you must get there at least half n hour early to order your food before standing in the line lol. Well am hooked.
A. F.
Fantastic choice of food and drink outlets. Has small amount of outdoor seating some of which you can see the cathedral.
J.
On a nice day this is a lovely place! Staff friendly.. and decent food! Parmo was decent for a place in Durham! I ordered too much though 🤣
A. B.
A Beautiful shopping experience, many people out enjoying themselves, great to see!!
R. S.
This place is amazing. The locals are very friendly. Sits right on the river and it's beautiful. Looks up a Durham castle, cathedral and college. Great wee gem
E. C.
Was on the way to the review I did on the Food Pit. Whilst walking along the river banks in the general.fitection of the City I got tslkingbtoma lovely homeless girl andvherb2 malevfisjing friends. She hsd praised me to her peers firvlidtening but hrrdcessvquite a sad tale of family discord and abuse. Made mevgeel.very humble on thevwsybto a late ,evening meal
D. D.
A nice circular walk along side the River from the castle or cathedral can be walked in less than 30 minutes with beautiful views looking back to the Cathedral.
G. T.
It's well maintained but could do with a good clean down the steps to the car park it always smells of urine
L.
Fantastic place to do anything such as shopping and many fantastic places to eat and drink. If you are just looking for a nice walk with great views around the river and the castle then you definitely need to come here. Some new places to eat and stay are currently under construction.
V. C.
The river needs a clean + trees removing
R. H.
Nice shops, lovely view, a bit crowded, but it's a popular place :)
P. R.
Durham riverwalk is brilliant and unique youre in an ancient city but a short strill away your in the countryside and surrounded by nature !
J. J.
Nice scenic area with multiple choice of eating establishments with a variety of ethnic menus
S. W.
Stunning nothing you can't get included beautiful scenery historically areas to visit adding photographs doesn't do justice so go and visit....
B.
Beautiful scenery here, lovely place to walk in the sun. Great places to eat too
P. S.
Went to punk pizza, the area has been updated, so is funky and 'fun'.
s. m.
Durhams newest addition, still waiting on a few occupants, should be good once they finish the riverside development.
B. M.
Great places to eat here. Fabulous
K.
Empty and unopened units. Could be a great area. Brilliant views. So much more could be done here we felt. Visited 'The Food Pit' here.
b. f.
It's been improved recently and the new cinema is good but more expensive than the one across the road.
J. N.
Beautiful location for photographs of the castle and cathedral. Trendy cafes and lovely walks along the riverside also a very comfortable Odean Cinema.
p. l.
Very pleasant. Lovely, bars, cafes and restaurants
k. S.
Lovely walk and not too busy
J. S.
Nice environment... bit steep climb into town.
A. W.
I like shopping hear as it had 2 of my favourite shops one is a charity and the other is the works.
G. V.
A hidden gem in a more than beautiful city. Plan was to go and visit Barnard castle, instead it became a visit to Durham castle and town. A day well spent! Wenn near this town, do as we did, follow the brown road signs, you'll be amazed.
Good and cheap P&R facilities!
L. C.
Really enjoyed our dinner yesterday at the food pit. It's made up of different food vendors, ranging from Durham sausage Co. making burgers etc to a Thai food place so there's tons of variety. Out of the three of us dining each of us had something completely different! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff are also what makes this a top stop if you're out and about in Durham. Give it a look you won't be disappointed!
J. D.
Lovely walk for youngsters and oldies plus your favourite woofer
D. D.
Still a bit on the empty side as far as shopping goes. Plenty of places to eat though and several new places opening soon.
R. R.
Loved it great place very busy buzzing recomend
P. b.
Went to inshanghai it was beautiful, staff was amazing, food was so tasty
J. S.
Good views from one side with the old buildings and bars on waterside, other side not so much. Good photo op spot though of course.
J. “. C.
Lovely set up, food, drink, entertainment. Caters for loads of different taste buds
G. C.
Lot of work going on but it will be gorgeous when finished

I. J. N.
It's beautiful. Scenic views.
B. M.
Best part of Durham seen as there’s hardlys anything left there anymore😕🌳🍃🦆🦢.
D. L.
Disappointing not all shops open but still worth a look. And has one of the few public toilets that Durham has
S. K.
Beautiful place, love visiting there when I can
K. S.
Great cinema this one ,the food outside is to die for
D. H.
great place for a walk and brilent views all round.
j. b.
Bit cold and breezy and non-descript as most of the bars and eateries are same as any other city now
K.
Fantastic walk in the summer months even good during the winter if wrapped up with our gloves and coats
a. r.
It is a lovely and historic bridge near the Bus and Train Stations It is full of Cafés, different Restaurants and other Business where you can enjoy of the Wear River, with Ducks and Swans, and the Durham Castle.
M. K.
Beautiful night walk👣🚶 with River side great time
A. W.
Lovely area in the city centre of Durham. Full of people and lots of shops. Eating. Clothes. Cakes drinks. You name it they have it. In a fabulous setting.
D. F.
Great place, lots of shops, lots of variety
v. c.
Love the new look in Durham such a pretty historic city
d. q.
Something for every1 plus it's right next to the cathedral and castle which in itself is a marvelous historic building. Plenty of pubs restaurants shops even a indoor market and on a weekend there's also the outdoor market. So with luninair fast approaching get now see the sights and lights grab some food and enjoy the sights and surrounding areas well worth a day out
v. l.
Lovely city, well worth a visit.
M. B.
Worth a visit lovely stroll along the river
G. W.
Cafe Ravika as it's now known, awesome place, great food and very friendly service. Children tikka wrap was delicious and a nice big mug of tea. The cakes looked very nice although I didn't have time to try one this time. Wonderful views of the river from my table and very clean inside and out. Highly recommended if you're in Durham and need a pit stop between shopping or sightseeing.
A. S.
Nice walk along the river with places to eat some dog friendly bet it will be lovely when the weather gets warmer
I. H.
Most of the shopping unit are empty at the moment but all in all a nice part of Durham city well worth a visit.
A.
Will be nice to visit when it's fully opened and there are a few more bars and restaurants, nice view though
B. M. C.
So many out door shops, restaurants, banks etc. How life was before shopping malls. Historical structure. Lovely place.
n. L.
Lovely walk 😍 nice and clean also
M. B.
Brilliant choice of eateries - but go to the Food Pit!
J. T.
It's rather nice to walk along here
T.
Nice place to walk with cafes n restraunts along the way
J. M.
Lovely bars and restaurants, new modern Cinema
T. B.
Jamie and Callum are the best!! Amazing service x
P. T.
Nice relaxing walk made even better with a river flowing like this
S. S.
Good potential when they manage to fill empty shops
E. L.
They took a covered shopping centre and replaced if with a non-covered shopping centre. Thus it is better in the summer and worse in the winter!
The river and cathedral views are good and the parking is about right and not too expensive.
Selection of shops and restaurants is fine and there is a good cinema.
You could certainly park here then go for a lovely walk along the riverbanks, coming back to the centre for a pleasant lunch before moving on.
T. T.
Had to be done while here, lovely, peaceful and Tranquil.
P. K.
Had a great day at Durham and the walk along the river in the sun was so peaceful.
S.
Clean walkway with great views. Riverwalk itself is really just restaurants, cafes and cinema. Some adjoining shops including Poundland. Shops could be better
L. B.
Stopped off for a small snack and a couple drinks, we got rhubarb Gin, and a kraken.. was a bit disappointed with the bread and oil dip as they toasted the bread which makes it hard to soak the oil, future reference just leave it as bread, its what's expected, other than that, lovely
L. C.
A great place to go to with various attractions. From the cinema and different restaurants and cuisines to try. A slight glimpse of the cathedral can be seen from here too.
K. S.
Some nice views and plenty facilities.
O.
Love the new look Durham very picturesque
P. c.
Great place for good or drink and walk and good free car parks after 2 pm
N. C.
Lovely walk ,awesome scenery , never disappoints
A. G.
Not a lot of shops now most are empty but next to river so something to see as with rain was quite heavy over last few days it was high flowing
I. S.
Beautiful old city.
I. M.
Lots of construction going on, when it's finished it'll look amazing
P. J.
Lovely walk , lots to see .
D. J.
Loved it nice wslk
J. C. Y.
Just another highlight to this wonderful place. A wander down to the Riverside fir a picnic and to unwind. Watch the rowers practice their sport as you listen to the sounds of summer around you. Perfect.
S.
Great area in central Durham with some good shops. The view is excellent as well. I am in absolute love with Durham so the review can be a little biased towards the city. Nonetheless, this place has a very refreshing and positive vibes!
L. M.
Lovely little restaurant. Good service, fantastic food, enormous portions and prices are very reasonable. Definitely recommend.
D. M.
Lots of great places to eat and drink
E. G.
Nice walk hopefully more units to open
C. W.
Only a quick visit to go to one shop then out. Parking was a bit quirky as I I never parked there before. But the pricing for parking g is very good.
R. C. (.
I'm sorry but what has happened to Durham City. There is hardly anything there. But I would suggest if you want something a bit different to eat. Give The Food Pit are try. It's a indoor bunch of stalls selling different street food. Wasn't badly priced and all the staff on every stall were polite and helpful. I'd give this place 5 stars if I was just reviewing here.
L. C.
I love Durham and the new Riverwalk they have built ,just one thing ..get a new cleaner for your toilets, the floors were black rotten ,paper towels everywhere because there was no bin and the dryers aren't working and it just looks really grubby wherever you look. As a cleaner I know what I'm talking about and the ladies toilets needs a good scrub.
J. J.
Thai river delicious food 😋
D.
I went to turtle Bay and the food was very nice
E. B.
Went Odeon LUXE to see Downton Abbey.
M. C.
Great experience, enjoyed the film very much, and was comfortable in my seat.
L. O.
The development here is going well, rats seen around bin bags along the river walk.
K. B.
Starting to get there, great to have a cinema in Durham again the Odeon Lux is fantastic, some nice places to eat withh plenty of choice such as The Food Pit. However the car part is atrocious after all the time and money of Tue renovations they did absolutely nothing! But paint lines, paces far too small 3 spaces creamed into space for 2 so you end up working th 1 car in the middle & 2 inaccessible spaces either side and roof hight is dangerous! if you're 6ft you will hit your head (DO NOT take cars higher than a hatch inside)
M. P.
Nice place, great cinema experience and coming soon lots of nice places to eat. However I should warn people the car parking system used seems to be sending people fines even though they have paid as required when the number plate is entered into the machine. It's a shame that so often greedy private car park owners are putting people off coming into town centers, let's not let it happen to this brilliant new addition to the city center.
c. t.
Great addition to Durham and looks onto the castle and cathedral
S. M.
Nice collection of eateries in beautiful Durham City centre. Visited on a freezing cold day so whistle-stop run through. But enough for me to want to go back when the weather is better!
D. C.
Needs some life injecting into the area. Went to the cinema. Had to walk round into the town to find a variety of eating places prior to our movie.
j. M.
Nice place
A day out place where we can do shopping and sightseeing and go for walk in riverside . Plenty restaurants.
I really enjoyed my weekend outing .
J. R.
Very busy! Lovely to sit and chill
D. H.
They've done a good job of it! The old milburngate was looking a bit tired, The new Riverwalk has brought the place up to date with better shops, restaurants, bars, a cinema and more! It fits in with Durham. I'm looking forward to seeing more places open soon!
M. W.
Could be much better. No real ales, and the layout isn't great. You'd think you'd be near the river, but they've managed to obscure it.
C. B.
Lots to do, eat cinema etc and nice views
J. S.
Great place for a Riverside walk, plenty to see and do , drinks / food etc.
L. F.
Loved my day here. Such a lovely City
R. W.
A good start but still not much open. Cozy club is lovely, the cinema is nice but expensive. Theres the pound shop, savers and the works, then a couple of others. Signs up for bigger food and drink places opening but no dates yet.
T. C.
This area is currently undergoing a much needed MAJOR redevelopment. Once work is completed it should be a greatly improved part of the city. Sad that so many establishments have opened but now closed down.
D. P.
Nice area of Durham, enjoyed it
D. T.
Lovely bar. Superb decor. Toilets immaculate. Lots of staff. Nice atmosphere
G. P.
Durhams riverside walk is a beautiful place to be during the summer. The walk runs both sides of the river, with plenty of places to stop off for a picnic. On the river you will see the pleasure boats and small rowing boats as well as the many rowing clubs that frequent the river during their training sessions. The walk goes through the centre of Durham, passing numerous restaurants and coffee shops, but go past the Cathedral and it becomes a more tranquil walk. Very pleasant indeed...
R. F. (.
Good selection of eateries.
C. E.
A nice place to browse around.
A. C. T.
Can't say yet as construction of new site not complete. Was supposed to be fully open by Sept 18. Only the student accommodation in the facility is complete. Once open it should be exceptional with a fantastic array of leisure and retail outlets - Odeon, lane 7, various restaurants, Durham gin plus more. Not sure it us due to be complete - spring 19 would surely be the developers aim.
T. S.
Lovely serene environment. Always good for a nice walk if the weather permits.
R. C.
Great place to visit in Durham
S. W.
A lovely place to eat, drink and relax with family. Odeon Luxe and lots of options for food and drink.
C. B.
Good walks along the river.
H. M.
Beautiful (paved and with a guard rail) walk along the Riverside, a proper clean river with overhanging scrubby trees, ducks and swans, kingfisher and cormorant, and if you are lucky, heron. Durham city Council has recently installed a silver sculpture of a heron. The shops are great, but there is also a space to get away from the shops.
L. S.
I wasnt so keen on Durham nice place to shop and go for lunch or have a walk etc but I found it quite boring after 3 hours here I went as part as a coach holiday Newcastle and durham Newcastle has more to see and do the Durham Durham you can do in 2 hours in my eyes Newcastle I could spend all day there there are a lot more to see in Newcastle and the transport is much more better to. Durham market is nice there are a few shops in Durham town its nice to go just the once I think it's just my personal taste
j. m.
Pleasant enough to walk along theirs a few seats you can sit on and look across river and see across to bridge you can go down the steps and walk along the river
S. C.
Pretty place
T. W.
Great place for all the family not only is it a historical place for all us history lovers it provides many shops great variety or if you are a market fan go to the indoor market prices not bad situated upstairs is a cafe prices not bad have experienced worse have a snoot about while the little ones are at swimming pool or watching a movie at the cinema.
J. C.
What can I say about this. It is a unique place to be. Durham is such a beautiful city for walking around and finding different places you have not seen before. I have been countless times but still find things of interest. It is going through a major transformation at present so it will be interesting to see how it develops and what new shops, bars and restaurants will open. I will keep updating my post as and when it happens.
C. M.
Nice location on the riverfront and reasonably priced parking, but car park is narrow and shop variety is small
c. y.
Nice place but the public toilets were closed with no real explanation why so had to use the disabled toilet but this was then closed after 5pm
M.
Stunning views, hats off to Durham city council, brilliant revamp x
C. W.
Amazing day lovely walk along the river breathtaking views of the river & Castle.Enjoyed lunch at Inshanghai we'll worth the money very tasty.
J. H.
Nice view
R.
I love my river walks.
C. L.
Wonderful walk along the river side
M. C.
The Riverwalk has some restaurants and a few shops plus Old Tons Gin Bar also next door to that us s coffee shop . There are toilets ...very clean but quite a few steps down however, there is a toilet for the disabled which has very easy access just along from Old Toms.
There is building work ongoing and when it is finished the area will have a lot to offer
A. I. (.
I went on a 2 day excursion with stop over night to visit the Christmas Market, a Birthday present from my husband at my birthday is near to Christmas. Plenty if shops to look and browse round and buy from. I found ca a shop that only opens at Christmas selling unique wooden Christmas decorations for tree and house, which l bought some of. Also stocking fillers and little oddities you dont see elsewhere. Plenty of fast food places, cafes and other eateries.
Was a very enjoyable addition to the day trip. There is car parks to park, and the kne we went to because on a Bus was alongside the Riverwalk. Took short time to walk to shops and amenities.
J. D.
Very comfortable seating, easy to access and the area outside looks great. Cinema food overpriced but tasty. We enjoyed our first visit and will return.
t. h.
Really hot day in Durham so it was nice to walk along the Riverside under the trees where it was cool, and watch the rowing boats.
R. P.
Nice walk
L. B.
This is rather ashame... The view is really good.. But the water is always a murkey brown colour.. That spoils it.. But have to give it 5 for the view.
E. W.
We went for a meal at inshanhai restaurant lovely meal parking needs sorting out at car park as lift been broken for months
J. B.
I have been going to that shopping center for years it was formally Millburn gate not a bad little precinct with all the shops and little places to eat they are doing it up at the moment but I'm looking g forward to it as it will have more shops coffee bars places to eat and be opened out and its got plenty of parking taxi rank bus station is only 100 yard a way so its handy yo get to and also their is a lot of thing to do in Durham its also got a lot of history
D. G. (.
Really enjoyable place to go
C. D.
Nice and relaxing walk
P. D.
Beautiful walk but could do with a good clean up
S.
This is the local Durham guide. Nice fella up for showing us the crack. 😉
C. C.
This is a long walk, on the banks of the River Weir in Durham. I didn't do the full walk because of time restraints, but if I come here again I might do the full walk.
l. a. s.
Beautiful peaceful walk's either side of the river wear, now somewhat spoiled by the new council building and the HUGE entertainment complex under construction near milburn gate bridge!
P.
Awesome night with friends, the Riverwalk for a night out is well worth it, you won't be disappointed. 👍
M. P.
I don't like Durham very much now as it is too modern. I only go there if I have to. It seems students and accommodation have taken over what was once a beautiful old city.
D. W.
Lovely walk in the sunshine down by the river
J. E.
Old Tom's Gin Bar is one of the most unusual bars I've ever been in. The decor is a mixture of all sorts - monkeys in fire buckets, jewellery boxes, skulls, pink flamingos. There isn't an actual bar - you go into a small room and choose your gin from a huge variety of makes/flavours on shelves, and the staff make your drink. The bar has only been open for 14 weeks at the time of this review, and is very popular. Give it a try - I did, and I am not usually a gin drinker. They don't serve pints of beer/lager - it's bottles only.
D. S.
Developed over the last few years. Contains a cinema, some foodie spots and some places for a drink. Good views of the caste and cathedral from here.
O. g.
Lovely hot sunny day, durham is a lovely place to visit, it has shops and plenty of places to eat and have a coffee
R. D.
Great relaxing place to have a walk. Nice green scenery and historic sights to see
F. A.
Durham, one of the most beautiful towns in the world,go and see it be before you die! steeped in history from The prince bishops to the finest cathedral .Durham is surrounded by the river Weir ,it as walking paths that reward the Walker with absolutely beautiful views of this lovely town/city.start your walk in the lower town, thats were the bus station Witherspoon's and all the charity shops are,the train station passengers come that way.when you are ready to move towards the castle(it's in full view)you will climb a gradiant on to frammingate bridge.your eyes will be drawn upwards to the beautiful sight of the cathedral and castle.at this point most people walk over the bridge and on into the town, take advice from an old guy who knows this town, look over the bridge towards the castle and take your eyes down to the river and you will see steps on the right hand side that appears to be part of the pub.these steps will connect to the path.before you descend look up river and you will see a bridge about half a mile ahead that's your target! This bridge is called Prebends bridge.10 minutes walk will reward you with outstanding views of the iconic cathedral and castle plus the Weir that straddles the river.
As you cross the bridge you are about to enter the town through its North Bailey, wonder up the road and you will come to a beautiful arch on you left,it's a part of Durham University, pass through this arch to be rewarded again with views of lovely buildings that you wouldn't normally see.it this area are buildings that house staff(lucky them)the music school and a lovely water tower.
On your right you will see the entrance to the cathedral.
If that isn't your desire turn around and go back to the Bailey, turn left and walk downhill until you see a entrance to the "Green" that's the grass area in front of the cathedral castle and museum, plus a free city bus.having seen what you wanted continue down saddlers till you reach Elvet bridge, turn right and pause awhile, this bridge had buildings on it similar to old London bridge.look over the bridge on your right and you will see the path that you left at Prebends!
You have seen on this 40 min walk views that only about 10% get to see.
I mentioned the free city bus,Durham is car free (except the clergy and "special" people"so there are 3 park and rides, these are provided with excellent buses to carry you in and out of Durham.
Walk back over the bridge and turn right,it will lead in to the market square, straight in front of you is the town hall , underneath it is a lovely indoor market, well worth a visit.look left and you will notice the path descends away from the square, that leads back to frammingate bridge.
Lots of places to eat, from cheap to outrageous,if your around at lunchtime and like Chinese food there's a excellent buffet on the Riverside called " inshantghai"when I called last time it cost 8pounds.lots of Gregg's ,
Witherspoon's do food as well.
Wouldn't recommend the castle tour,it's expensive and it's just one room after another I would recommend the cathedral,by far the most perfect church in the UK in my opinion, no charge to enter (but have lots of staff to take your money if you are that way inclined.
st Cuthberb is here, light a candle for him or some-one you love or miss.
Before you leave this lovely this beautiful church climb the tower,it's outstanding!(they charge for that)finish up with a cup of coffee just off the cloisters
Ask about the prince bishops,a story of murder, king making, the harrowing of the north, death of 99 knights(one was left alive)he was sent back to tell the king a "No"that made the king do a deal with the people of Northumberland to be self ruling under a prince bishop, the right to make laws, print money and raise tax.
Enjoy Durham, this brief tour is just a taste of lovely area of northern England, lots of other towns to see.
M. C.
Cool little space with plenty of restaurants to offer as a warm up or post cinema
S. N.
Lovely place for the family
k. r.
Always a lovely walk, recommended!
M.
Lovely setting over looking the river, good choice of places to eat and drink
A. F.
Will be better, once more shops are open. Mainly, just a place for passing through.
E. S.
Durham riverbanks are very beautiful..just avoid the bikes who think they have right of way when they don't . Several circular routed can take you all around Durham then stop off at nine alters cafe for homemade scones cakes and great afternoon tea..nom!
a. t.
Always lots of photo opportunities it's a beautiful place to go for a walk. Love Durham ❤️
J. R.
Nice quiet stroll. Good views of the castle and cathedral. Makes up part of a nice circular walk from the market hall.
A. C. S.
Perfect weather, plenty of space. Clean and tidy with the best views in Durham.
D. L.
Lovely views, easy walk with plenty of places to eat, drink and shop or just enjoy the walk by the river with views of the Cathedral.
O. W.
Nicely done up. Don't use the parking eye carpark which appears to not function properly. Difficult to pay and poor instructions without any way to phone for help. Cinema staff not trained in how it functions either. Would almost say it's a scam... I'm sure it isn't though 🤨
K. W.
Great place good variety of foods mint place to watch the world go by
A. S.
Lovely walk some nice places to eat and looking very clean and tidy.
J. M.
Not the best part of the City but they are trying to do something about it. It’s being developed and modernised to match today’s expectations around city center shopping. Don’t judge the City by this shopping area, believe me it is a beautiful City with its cobbled streets and independent retailers.
P. D.
The toilets are not very good - no small urinal for small people. Hand dryers are weaker than a southern breeze. Ships and pennyworth of tar springs to mind.
J. R.
A walk along the riverbank of Historic Durham is very uplifting. The views of the Cathedral and Castle walls hovering over you are Majestic and Spectacular. Plenty of wildlife and tree lined riverbanks.
T. G.
The jewel of the Northeast Durham. Such a shame our MPs and Councillor's don't share this view. 🥺🥺
J. G.
A beautiful area to walk around. Plenty of variety. Car parking nearby at a reasonable cost.
Durham is, a lovely city, worth the time walking around.
J. T.
Durham has always been a lovely place to visit but even more so now with he new Riverwalk area. Will be nice to see all the units filled.

j. s.
Part of the Durham riverside regeneration. Restaurants & bars. Not all open yet but the ones that are a very good. We visited Thai River and the Cosy Club
S. A.
Great walks along this beautiful river with amazing views of Durham Cathedral and Castle.
T. H.
Much improved by the old Labour Council hope the Torys don't spoil it
A. H.
The view of Durham Castle & Cathedral from the River walk is fab. There is a few places to eat & drink especially the Cosy Club which is different.
E. L.
Amazing bars and restaurants
B. M.
We ve walked along the river walk many times over the years but this time there was rubbish in the river and a dead duck. I hope things will pick up again in the spring and summer cos i ve always loved Durham and the river walks
s. l.
Set in the heart of Durham City, Riverwalk shopping centre offers a small range of shops. Once building works are complete I'm sure it'll be a lot better but at moment there's very little shops.
P. R.
I admire the vision and the cinema is quality but the rest is of poor quality and still not finished they should have got rid of poundland and savers and some of the building work is shoddy to say the least
L. J. H.
Nice walk
M. T.
So very sad.....so many shops empty 😩
D. P.
I can't give this place much of a review at the moment as it is undergoing a major refurbishment, but looking at what has been built so far it's going to be better than it was before with a lot more to offer, looking forward to the grand reopening
C. C.
Love this place, beautiful views of the Cathedral, castle & of the river. A little overgrown in parts - but understandable under the current circumstances
J. S.

G. H.
Fairly simple and not as much variety as I hoped. Nice to look round though. Great if you need cards
J. R.
Walk up to the cathedral is VERY steep, but lovely when you get in there , no cameras or large bags in the cathedral , disappointing
R. M.
A lovely walk along the river with the iconic views of the Cathedral. Good footpath with plenty of places to admire the views from.
S. W.
Toilets always seem to be closed getting cleaned no matter what time day and disabled is always locked been few times seen elderly or disabled not being able to use them
S. K.
Nice day, not to busy most enjoyable walk.
M. N.
It could do with better signage to indicate what levels certain shops were on and perhaps a jet wash of the pavements to clean them up a bit.
B. W.
THE RIVERSIDE IN DURHAM HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD WALK. YOU GET VERY GOOD VIEWS OF THE CASTLE AND THE CATHEDRAL. LOVELY ON A NICE SUNNY DAY.
