Reviews of Forbidden Planet International
C. “. T.
Love this store as it sells niche interest collectibles and merchandise that you are unable to purchase anywhere.
This particular store has really friendly and helpful staff.
The wall of Funko Pops is definitely a defining feature of the store. Loads of different figurines that I had never seen prior to visiting.
They have a massive selection of manga as well for collectors, of popular and not so popular titles.
Definitely recommend this for anyone who is a fan of something.
a. m.
Great shop. They were strict with 15 people max in side but that meant the shop wasn't too full. Interesting items my nieces aged 13 and 11 loved it
S. C.
I hope you have a good time and if you like my reviews and photos, please click LIKE on my reviews!!! :)
Enjoy
This is a really cool store, full of action and entertainment.
I was waiting for the 37 bus and this store was right outside the bus stop.
This is a great store to buy gifts for comic and anime fans.
Enjoy
p. d.
easy to access and certainly not a planet, it was however a fun time for finding japanese themed memorabilia and funko pops
N. H.
Such a great store with all your geek needs...so many pops and figures to choose from.
N. M.
Good selection of graphic novels and geeky merch I always find unique items for my sons Christmas in here
P. P.
Visited the store on Sunday 21st November. Really good selection of Manga and Funko pops. Decent range of other stuff as well, including some small independent/local comics. The Manga were 3 for 2 which was a bonus!
The staff members were talking animatedly and joking with each other while not serving, which was nice to see. But they were like shy wee boys when serving, which was quite amusing.
M. M.
Awesome shop with a lot to choose from! They had loads of manga, anime characters, game characters and treats. Highly recommend.
M. H.
Been to Planets stores around the country but being in your home one is something special. The usual pop culture greatness to be found here.
M.
Great range of Harry Potter memorabilia along with sci-fi products. Can be very busy though and it’s rather cramped.
g. c.
Haven't been in one for years could easily spend a fortune if I was allowed
D. Q.
Great place. Staff are lovely and welcome everyone individually upon entry. Will definitely shop here more
D. S. (. S.
One of my favorite forbidden planet stores! I finally found a book I had been scouring all around for!
C. M.
Brilliant selection of comics and funko pops, not a very spacious store, aisles are very tight only a single person can fit down one
J. A.
Massive selection of products and merchandise. Everything from anime merch, comic books, trading cards and shirts.
Bought some fair priced MTG cards that were listed at almost £2 cheaper than other suppliers in the same area. Nice staff working behind the counter.
L. (.
Small and tight, yet beautifully organised and supplied.
Great selection of various items from different genres, nicely selected and displayed.
T-shirts choice and funko domination are probably two weaknesses of the place.
❤️
F. O.
Lots of to choose from but out of sock of some Naruto books
s. r.
Their's a shop just along from the forbidden planet that more or less sells the same things but it has gone down hill but the forbidden planet always has what I want I've bought many great pieces of movie merchandise that I've been able to add to my collection and the staff are always helpful it's my favourite shop in edinburgh I always go there last when I go to edinburgh I'm so glad they have a shop like this in edinburgh it makes my day in edinburgh enjoyable
T. D.
This store might as well just take all our money. Its a comic, anime, funko lover's dream store.
T. V.
A nice little comic store with a very wide selection. In addition to Western comics, they also have a sizeable collection of manga, including even some more obscure titles, that's worth checking out. They were very helpful and even offered to let me know when the next volume of the manga I'm reading (Maison Ikkoku) arrives at the store.
A. M.
Great shop stocking local writers and all the big names too.
M. L. K.
Very friendly staff and good prices
B. H.
Good store. Clean, organised and good selection. Knowledgeable staff.
V. B.
Visited today with my 11 year old son. Was very busy and had to queue outside. Only waited 10 minutes to get in, staff were very friendly and made sure maximum of 15 were allowed in a time. On entering were advised to sanitise hands and social distance. Can’t fault this place as there was no sense of rush to leave.. took our time (his) and when leaving staff were interested in the purchase we made and told us to have a nice day., 👍. Will definitely be back.
J. T.
Fun but expensive, bit overpriced but cool collectable
M. F.
I really like it here and they have lots of geeky stuff
b. d.
Didnt have everything but a very cool place
S. F.
Good selection of comics/books and memorabilia
B. P.
Decent selection of manga, comics, Pop Funkos, and other action figures and merch. Had plenty of newly released items for sale, and staff were really friendly.
R. s.
My family and I popped into your Edinburgh branch on our holiday back in august. We found the staff and manager helpful and very friendly. Would recommend stopping in and having a look round and we would defo come back if/when we're back up that way in the future.
M. G.
Always well maintained and staff are helpful. My only gripe is they focus too much on certain things that take up a lot of space, which reduces the variety. But I guess they go with what sells the most.
R. M.
Huge selection, great for anyone who loves everything anime and manga related. The only thing I would say is that there is not many volume 1 books available so if they keep restocking to have volume 1 of a manga then they will get more buyers.
A. J.
Good shop, nice selection of manga though they were missing the first books of all of the ones I was looking at purchasing which is a shame. Maybe need to be a little more attentive with the queue outside as I had to wait outside which I didn't mind, but they then told another group that they could come in
D. A.
Nice store, not the largest forbidden planet (London is huge!) But had a good selection and items and was busy with interested people.
c.
Amazing stuff very overpriced and staff came across as rude just talked and played childish games with each other rather than showing interest in sales
D. G.
Scruffy, Poor layout, poor quality display, not great selection compared to other stores and own website. Saying that you very good customer service and friendly.
R.
Nice little shop , was there twice first time to browse and second to buy but it was a bit of a faf to find what to buy since then moved things. Other then that great staff and nice , just not supper well organised
S. G.
This shop is just awesome. Besides the great comic selection they have one of the best Funko POP offers I have ever seen. They also have special editions and chase figures which are hard to get sometimes. Also the prices for those items is really reasonable. I found a figure that I was searching for for a long time.
Really would recommend this shop to any collector who is in town.
M. B.
I've been going to forbidden planet for close to a year semi frequently and the only bad thing I have to say is the sometimes limited stock but that can't be helped given the current circumstances.
T. B.
A really cute shop, easy to get to and they always have a huge range of pops and comics to look through.
They are pretty well priced and always have a nice little sale section too!
The staff are always really friendly and super helpful if you need it. Would definitely recommend going here if you are looking for something nerdy!
H. T. A.
Whenever I go there the staff is always friendly and willing to help when help is needed. They follow the covid regulations and accept mask exempt without any issues unlike other places where I had a few challenges.
M. K.
Lots of cool merch and collectibles
C.
I love forbidden planet. We visited this one in May and enjoyed browsing and seeing what it had to offer. The manga collection is extensive and there is an abundance of comic books. They fall short of the number of board games, but I did manage to pick up a copy of Exploding Kittens. We also purchased a Mario Kart blue shell cushion. It was fairly pricey but extremely soft and comfortable. A nice gift. Staff were friendly and the shop itself wasn't too busy, so it provides a nice browsing experience. Cool shop.
N. F.
Have been a customer of Forbidden Planet for 30+ years. Great comic selection. Only looses a star as they don't seem to sell novels anymore, but have the largest selection of Pop figures I've seen. Not my thing, but my kids loved it.
R. L.
Great selection of comics for all your weekly needs. Staff can seem insular but ask them a question and they'll happily help you with whatever you need. Sad to see some of the merch give way to a solid wall of pop figures but I'd imagine that brings in more money. Great for graphic novels if you're looking for specific books too. All in all a great shop who does what it does well.
P. K.
Surprised at the size of the shop quite small but a great selection of sci-fi and collectables well worth a look staff very helpful and friendly
C. S.
Lots inside, I always have look when I visit.
M. R.
Excellent shop with brilliant staff, very helpful today while shopping for Funko PoP's!
B.
staff were nice
Some higher prices
B. F.
Love this place! Always end up buying something! Great variety of stock anf great staff!
G. G.
Good choice of manga books, especially useful for finding new series. Prices per book are a bit higher compared to online but the 3-for-2 deal on manga/light novels makes up for it.
A. D.
This is a pretty standard forbidden planet international. Its obvious the staff know and love a lot about the stuff in the store. They have a bit selection of comics and seem to always get the new issues on schedule. Like expected some of the prices are a little high but this is not a fault of the store.
h. a.
Its ok but when I went looking for manga, few series had earlier volumes and for alot of the franchises there were only the last couple volumes
D. O.
Typical forbidden planet. Plenty of nice things overshadowed by pop vinyls
P. G.
Been coming here for many years. Always have a great selection but don't always get the good stuff in. Need to stock He-man and masters of the universe merch.
E. L.
Small store but a fantastic selection
J.
Quite a small shop so social distancing was hard, and the prices seem very inflated on some products. Nice to browse but couldn't afford to buy anything.
D. M.
Missed this shop in Nottingham great to see its still going
J. G. (.
The shop it's self is good and full of comics and collectors items, good location and plenty of choice, the only real problem is most of the comics are far cheaper on Amazon than what they have and for most fans of graphic novels it's not a cheap hobby to be buying them at increased costs. Personally I just like to browse to get an idea of what I would like to read next and buy when on sale.
P. G. M.
This shop has tons of cool anime, manga and comic items and books, also at a reasonable price
B.
I've visited here many times over the past few years. The staff are really nice and relatable. They know their comic books and TV programmes! Always up for a chat. Nice place. Some of the things they sell here are Funko Pops, Action figures, Statues, Memorabilia clothing, Posters and Comics.
H. B.
A well designed shop with a variety of items within, staff appeared pretty busy. Could do with another person dotted around.
E. E.
Lovely staff and a great place to get all your figures, anime, manga and little souvenirs. ☆
A. M.
I've always loved this place, I've been going here for years for general geekery. Lately it's felt a little less specified and more pop culture-y but that is completely understandable with the way the store works. Pricing is fair and relatively competitive, if you're a collector of manga I highly recommend here for their 3 for 2 deal, makes buying a delight!
But for every two positives there are negatives, the main one for me is the music, while the store plays fitting music generally, it's often too loud and if you are with a group of people it can be hard to hear them. It's also (understandably) very busy which is great for the business! But it can make getting around the somewhat cramped store a little hard.
All said and done, it's a great branch and is one of the few good geek/nerd culture establishments in Edinburgh!
J. B.
Great mix of modern comics, action figures, statues, trading cards and more. The staff are some of the friendliest of any Forbidden Planet shop I've visited. Though the prices seem to be higher than other FP and comics shops. So buying weekly comics can be cost prohibitive and it's a pretty tiny space.
Would be great if the shop participated in more comic events, including having a presence at the local con and hosting signings.
A. M.
Used to love this store, I remember when it first opened in a small shop just off Tottenham Court Road in London and its grown into a large group. Some great products but I've now come to an age where buying and collecting does not hold same interest. But in general good selection your left to look around and when visited the Edinburgh I did enjoy walking around.
L. S. S.
Staff are helpful but be aware it holds less stock now, due to making space for social distancing as it's a smallish store.
E. E.
Great place but lacks a "new manga" section (I have not been able to find new mangas that are doing really well like Nagatoro)
D. R. F.
Selection is great but unfortunately the staff I've encountered have been quite snooty if you don't appear to be a connoisseur.
Completely unwilling to help me find a specific type of comic book, despite the fact that I was the only person browsing at the time. Would probably go back if it felt more welcoming, but as it stands I don't get eye rolls or laughed at when browsing online.
F. B.
Visited the store for the benefit of my son who was after some Funko Pops. Seemed to have a good selection with many being on sale and priced from only £2.99. My son happily found a couple he liked and even paid for them himself (there's a first) LOL
B. B.
Lots of comics, anime books and some other things, but maybe hard to find something you want.
L. “. R. W.
Great shop, staff were very helpful and friendly, would highly recommend here for all your geekery needs.
J. B.
Geek heaven, though absolutely gutted they do not sell World of Warceaft merchandise (apparently no retail shops do?!).... had a lovely time browsing: D&D, bobbleheads, graphic novels, even Moomin bags. Could have happily whiled away several hours in here!
I. v. d. B.
A very fun comic book shop with a wide selection of comics, figurines and other toys, and manga. Although it was a bit out of my price range there was lots of fun stuff and the staff was very friendly too. If I ever come back to Edinburgh ill definitely save some money to shop here.
N. P.
Lovely, knowledgeable staff and plenty of products for all your geeky needs, ranging from graphic novels to manga and posters, along with collectible figures and much, much more!
R. M.
There's such a massively wide field in sci-fi nowadays that it would be impossible to cover everything in their shop. But if you are into comics they have a great selection. They do their best but they have a very limited range of models. It's still worth a visit though.
I. G.
A nice small comic book and manga store, having books for all ages and selling merchandise and a lot of funko pop
R. S.
Cramped, but good social distancing thankfully. Small selection of collectables; mostly books and comics available.
D. H.
Used to be much better but now a large part of the store is dedicated to Funko Pop. To each their own and they obviously must be selling well but it is a bit frustrating to see them choosing that over options like more comic and geek merchandise.
F. W.
This is a really small shop. It closes at 5.30pm. The staff are very helpful but the stock is limited due to the size of the shop.
J. K.
Fantastic shop for movie and comic merchandise. Not too expensive; however, could be a lot better if they had a range of products aimed at introducing kids to comics/marvel/dc universes.
G. B.
Great selection of comics, manga, and various collectibles. Not as wide a selection as other locations.
C. B.
Quite small, the majority of stock seemed to be manga and funko pops. Serves well if it's your local comic shop but not worth travelling a while to visit.
R. D.
Good store, great merch. Always a quiet and calm atmosphere
A. D.
Quick visit. Large range of comic books and memorabilia
D. K.
Always been a great store for proper comic/graphic novel enthusiasts. There's another sci fi store very nearby but honestly that's more about overpriced merchandise so avoid that and visit a proper shop.
A. A.
I found a comic book store in Scotland! What a joy to take a little time for myself and visit one... I haven't gone while at home in a year or more. Wonderful atmosphere, helpful staff, wonderful! A short walk from the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. A must see for any geekily-inclined person.
Z.
It's grand but the window is such a draw but the over reliance on Pops is a bit much perhaps a rethink of the layout may be good especially as Galaxy and it's sister stores have been popping up would it never the less I would kill to work there
L. W.
It's OK only cause better comic book shop been there for ages but a little cramped but staff was friendly
A. L. P.
Small shop in the centre of Edinburgh. I've brrn to a lot of Forbidden Planet shops, and this one has a nice assortment of comic books and merchandise, but lacks board games. There are a few monopolies and a small selection of mainstream games. The staff were really friendly and I was treated very well.
K. S.
About half of the place was filled with Funko figures. Not a positive thing for us who can't stand the brand. Good selection of comic books and magazines, but not so much of other stuff.
K. C.
Visit this place with someone who truly loves heroic fiction if of course you don't yet have that love yourself.
I was lucky enough to accompany of on my colleagues to this place, he had made a special effort to go as we were there for a work do. I was curious why a middle aged man would be interested in a place which you would think would typically only cater for children. Boy was I wrong to intially think that this place was for the immature.
I asked my colleague why in the end he decided to buy a 'Michael Keaton' batman figurine, it seemed as though he was just buying a toy as a big kid, but he continued with no shame.
As we left he then told me, the best memory he had of his father, where he was when he was taken as a child to see the 1989 Batman film starring Michael Keaton. He went on to explain it was the best time he'd ever had and one of the joyest outings he'd ever had with his father, he was too young at the time to remember much else but he remembers that night. He brought an expensive figurine because it reminded him of a memory of his father, and as expensive as the figurine was, the memory itself was priceless.
The story struck a chord with me, and I realised, in places like this can bring Powerful reminders of our childhood and to some of our strongest loving and joyest memories, especially associated with childhood fictional characters & stories.
Take no shame in being a big kid, you think it be forbidden for a non-child to want to endulge in the nostalgia of new and classic fiction, but I think there's more of a shame if you were to dismiss what priceless memories and emotions this place can both provoke in future and help you reminisce about in the past.
L. L.
Small place, crowded shelves, lacks the books of the London store. Staff was very friendly, though! Good place for comics and vinyl figures, but that's about it.
L. R. E.
I'm giving this shop 5 stars because as far as I could see there was lots of merchandise if this is what you're into ..I went in with my daughter..I loved it ..I seen lots of things I will be able to buy for birthday and Christmas presents .. it's not huge but the was plenty of room to walk about and there was a few people shopping at the time .. the guys working in the shop very helpful..I will be back..☺️
S. K.
Love it here!!! Some great rare finds!!! And friendly staff too.
N. P.
Staff have always been helpful and well informed. My only issue is the place can get busy quick due to the layout of the shop, especially when new books are out, weekends or free comic book day!
G. P.
Brilliant place to go for fans of Transformers, Dragonball, Marvel etc. As well as a huge range of comics and graphic novels. Lots of POP vinyls to collect as well.
M. J.
Great selection of comics, books, toys and collectibles. The staff have always been very helpful. The shop faces competition from similar nearby.
M. h.
Great store always a favourite of mine, however very little Dr who merchandise which was disappointing as it's what I was looking to buy, but apart from that top class shop with lots of selection for pop figures
I. G.
Excellent friendly educated staff with a great variety of geek gadgets and comics
M. g.
Lovely staff and awesome items to collect
P.
Great things to buy, from marvel to dc this shop has it all!
L. B.
Upon arrival you'll be overwhelmed by all the awesome stuff waiting for you to geek out. I wanted everything. The range of comic books is huge and they had everything that I needed.
A. G.
There's not a whole lot of choice for comics in Edinburgh but this is a nice shop, clean, easy to navigate, staff are pretty nice and will help you find things and give recommendations if you ask. It is a little expensive compared to online purchases but sometimes nothing beats actually going into a comic shop and coming away with an exciting new purchase.
D. S.
Very strict covid rules that made me feel safe, nice place with good range of times
C. A.
I got a Lemmy Bobble Head thing but so meny Comics to buy its full of Hero's and thats just the Great staff
C. M.
Great little shop. Always busy.
Plenty of figures on top of comic books and other collectibles. Prices a little steep though.
Would recommend.
P. M.
Good range especially Funkos.
G. w. R. B.
Helpful staff and a good selection of modern comics and trade paperbacks.
N. M.
Full of every kind of geek accessory anyone can imagine. Comics, figurines and many other things that will excited everyone with a flair for the geeky. One of the favorite places to visit in Edinburgh!
J. T.
Nice friendly staff and great selection of comics!!!
M. S.
Staff are very helpful and quite knowledgeable. They managed to find me an obscure one off comic hidden at the back of the shop. I try to go in wherever I'm passing.
N. S.
Great selection of comics and nerd merchandise.
L. W.
Bit cramped as they have fit a lot into a fairly small shop. Not as big a selection as some but plenty in there. Staff are very friendly and help but perhaps a bit too much of a hard sell going on at times.
S. W.
Amazingly knowledgeable staff! Ewen helped me pick out a fantastic gift for my brother. They have loads of Star Wars stuff, which I love.
X. M.
Chain comicbook and memorabilia store, a bit pricey and hit or miss advice - extensive manga/graphic novel section, full alot of toy tat, and a busy/narrow weekly comics shelf section that congests very easily - needs about three times the size of store and less naff toys.
N. D.
A good shop although it was very dear
C. H.
Good selection of current comics and merch. Wouldn't recommend it if you'll be looking silver or golden age comics but good if you want to pick up your weekly comic run.
H. M.
Good shop has some nice things and good comics but can be a little pricey but still always worth a pop in when in town
M. E.
Great variety! Always find something different and amazing
F. A. S.
They have a great buy-2-get-1 for free on manga! Bought 8 DC volumes. Great selection of one shots too.
E. G. (.
Was looking for final fantasy merchandise but had nothing I could buy. Not as good as one in Newcastle
V. A.
Place is good. Lot of teen age crowd. I went with my son. I feel that this place is little bit expansive.
But lot of variety of new generation toy.
m. b.
It has comics! COMICS! YAY! Oh and other stuff too.
H. !.
Could have more drip available
J. D.
If you're the least bit geeky or nerdy then this is the place for you. Enough said.
In here you'll find every form of cult bric-a-brac you could ask for, from comics to clothing and everything in between across many brand names like Marvel, DC, Serenity, Star Trek and The Walking Dead to name but a few.
The only drawback is that they can sometimes be quite expensive: the side effect of being able to hold the item in your hands before buying.
Try to make it out of there without buying something. It's harder than you'd think.
A. S.
Amazing. I wish I had one where I lived 😭. Staff really great and selection of anything brilliant.
D. O.
Nice selection of items(comics, pop vinyls ect) Not the biggest forbidden planet shop I've been in.
T. C.
Nice sized comic and memorabilia shop. Not as hard core as some that I've seen but certainly enough to satisfy many comic book lovers and those interested in pop culture.
G. M.
Friendly staff, good range of graphic novels and manga, a bit pricey but the products tend to be in other places anyway
A. B.
Wide range of comic books in a very tidy and organised space, wonder if they'll stock a wider variety of merchandising and memorabilia?
D. A.
Was once a great place for all things comics, sci fi and awesome greekyness but now, unless you are looking to by nothing but pop vinyl characters you be better off elsewhere.
G. K.
First ever visit to a real comic book stores with my kids & they loved it. Friendly well informed staff
A. L.
Edinburghs no1 store for comics, funkos and graphic novels. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and you could spend hours browsing their well organised shelfs
C. H.
Browsed in this shop a couple days ago and was amazed by the collection this small little shop has to offer. Good value items and helpful staff
D. C.
Been on the go for years. A visit here never disappoints. Excellent range and knowledgeable staff.
L. T.
Limited selection and the store feels cramped
S. M.
Solid selection of products but heavily over-priced. Many items, like Neca movie figures, 15% more expensive than in other local stores or online.
M. R.
Great selection with friendly staff. Large manga selection as well as comics, collectables and card and board games.
D. D.
Excellent wee shop and fantastic staff, can't wait to visit again. The range of items offered here is incredible.
M. F.
They have lots of Funkopops here and even some other great movie stuff. Prices are normal.
G. W.
Excellent staff who always know what to recommend whether it be a series you haven't heard of or looking for a new graphic novel that you haven't read. Love this shop.
M. B.
A bit cramped inside and I think too much stock on the shop floor. Not the best Forbidden planet I have been into.
A. C.
It was a very good place to find any kind of merchandising and also a wide variety of comics.
d.
Smaller than some other Forbidden Planets I've been to but a good place to get your geek on
S. V.
Great selection and very helpful and friendly staff!
s. l.
I went to Forbidden Planet yesterday, I found what I was looking for, the staff were helpful , and my son got the comics that he was looking for .
J. A.
Found the staff really helpful, prices not too bad. Went in here looking for a certain thing and they were more than happy to help me find it.
W. l.
Real nice, got some manga and a poster there.
M. H.
Was ok the Newcastle store has more selection
R. O.
I'm a geek, nerd, whatever... can't system anything bad about Forbidden Planet, always enjoy going there.
C. W.
Big fan of comics and Forbidden Planet has the latest releases every week. Staff are friendly and although not a fan myself they have a huge range of collectibles.
L. F.
Excellent shop, nice, helpful staff but they need larger premises as there's not much space between aisles.
T. R.
Forbidden Planet is a great place to get my geek on! A wide variety of products, lots of fun.
c. m.
Fantastic store all the usual figures avengers, dc, movie figures, comics few Lego sets, pleasant friendly staff,
L. B.
Amazing selection, great atmosphere, friendly staff
S. J.
Great selection of funkos at good prices. Pit stop here when shopping in Edinburgh is a must.
G. R.
Decent stock but you need to watch the prices. Some things were well priced others not so much
J. J.
Great shop for any comic book or sci fi fan. Will visit again in the future
K. M.
A great selection of comics, manga, and other stuff here. A bit of a squeeze when it's busy, but not enough to be off-putting.
S. B.
Great comic shop with friendly staff, and a great indie comic section! I particularly liked the Blue Fox Comics graphic novels!
I.
Have to say, I was really disappointed by this place. I normally complain and FP (England) being a toy shop these days. FPI was just as bad, but also managed to be cramped and unwelcoming.
I. M.
They have a good selection of halo action figures but I just wish I had unlimited money because it's quite expensive.
S.
Good selection of books and comics staff are friendly and polite
P. K.
Always go in whenever we're in Edinburgh
C. O.
