Reviews of Sailmakers Shopping Centre
F. T.
Tower Ramparts went downhill with the removal of the glass lift which caused it to lose all it's character. Usual high street chains and empty abandoned units crammed side by side into a shopping mall experience with all the pleasures that brings. And there's randomly an Iceland too. If you've ever played any of the Left 4 Dead franchise, the shopping centre has an air of being the focal point of the town centre should the locals succumb to a zombie apocalypse anytime soon. If they haven't already.
R. M.
Parking was easy, has a lift, many empty shops in the centre, and in the town, been a number of years since I was last here, although there are some lovely buildings the place has gone downhill, whole shopping centres closed, some big names gone also, quite sad really
V. C.
Great shops. Charity shop Emmaus. Boots. Iceland. Newsagent. Pandora. Money exchange shop, small one. Escalators up. Stairs down. No lift. HMV. Stall in aisle of shopping centre sell mobile phone cases also a beautician under the escalators close to Poundland. Yours. BBs does great tea and coffee and food, can sit down and eat. Two sets of escalors. Toilets on first floor.
H. G.
Perfect xcept I'm watching hip hop 👌 won't see you at manning s Hotel xxxx mmmm plans xxxxx ed sheeran n helen Elizabeth Parker
S. W.
Very clean all round. I've been to better shopping centres that have more quality outlets. Would return.
m. d.
They don't make sails. I found this very misleading. It's clean and pleasant to walk through, with friendly, helpful staff, but no sails. 😞
R. B.
Looks great now it’s been revamped in recent years. A great selection of shops too, including Boots, Iceland, River Island, Top Shop, Top Man.
T. H.
Wide Walkways so wheelchairs can there so people in wheelchairs connect fully get round and have a look at the shops lovely afternoon. Xx
J. H.
We didn't buy anything from any of the shops, but just merely walked through,..it's not as busy as you'd think being in the town centre,..but a nice place to browse.
S. S.
Shame two of the largest stores have now closed, need to get a bit of variety in as there are lots of eateries but not many shops
S. T.
Convenient walk through from buses also Iceland at entrance to shop before home. Couple of cafes, Boots, Barnardo's, hair studios, Poundland. To Tavern st
F. S.
Many different shops is like a shopping center many offers, best shop's is HMV, school staff shop, coffee shops and nails opposite Iceland, some charity also
G. D.
Nice shops. Nicely chilled. Friendly. Perfect!!!!!
M. K.
Good selection of stores, and chuffed to come across chopstix which does Chinese food that is halal. 👍
S. 5.
Shopping centre, has escalator, lifts and toilets. Some shops including boots, pound land, River Island, Ryner , subway, coffee shop, and so on,,, right in centre of town, opposite bus terminal.
E. G.
Been shopping there a lot when I was young, however so much has changed thx to the pandemic and everything else; many units still today remain empty, one competitive restaurant after another, I also don’t know what’s gonna happen to the third floor where the food court use to be.. the third floor should have an eatery again as well as something big and fashion wise above the the floor 1 entrance, etc.
J. T.
Lots of empty shops. Iceland was busy as usual but a lot of shops here have closed down and it was strangely erie in there.
B. R.
Only went to get delivery from Iceland. Was there at 8 30 in morning and no deliveries. Shortage of drivers.
R. S.
Needs more upmarket shops but a good place to hide from the rain
H. T.
Really good shopping centre lots of choice of shops
g. h.
It was OK. Got some interesting shops in there. Though the town's shopping area is sadly, slowly disappearing.
S. L.
I pass through Sailmakers on occasion to use Tower Ramparts bus station but it has some convenient shops on two floors, including three cafes.
T. 1.
Just lacks anything to draw you in, Toilets nice and clean though
V. H.
Good range of shops and very clean and tidy
B.
It has very handy shortcuts to a bus stop, toilets, elevators, fast food restaurants, pedicure salon, poundland, Iceland and my most least fab place such as the films store up on the second floor
r. p.
Not to many shops maiin ones are iceland and Poundland boots couple of clothing shops and charity shop perfume shop and noodle bar not much more to say clean and pleasant visit
T. M.
First time in here, had a mooch around HMV and the charity shops
W. D.
They could do with putting back some of the seats that they used to have on the upper deck and if doing maintainance on the main escalators try making the one by the steps into an upward escalator
K. b.
A decent place with a variety of shops and cafes.
Easy access for wheel chairs.
Public toilets available, conveniently placed right next to bus station.
V. T.
Some good shops here. It's sad though to visit and see the place desolate and so many stores closed.
N. F.
Really nice in here, good variety of shops. Nice and light and warm. The toilets were OK and fairly clean.
S. O.
Small selection of shops right in the centre of town
D. A.
Has changed a lot in the last few years...need more quality shops in there. But still ok for shopping clothes jewellery and even food shopping
l. h.
A good range of accessible shops. Clear one way system set up to allow for social distancing with the current Covid19 situation. Was not overly busy. Was clean and security were visibly present. Went in Boots and Ryman stationers and had a good experience in both shops.
J. C.
Good shopping centre, with a good option of shops and food. Nothing out of this world, but enough the satisfy the majority of local shoppers, and those from further afield. There are charging stations and plugs available for anyone that needs them, the toilets are very well maintained, and up to date. Limited seating available around the centre, however not usually enough to cater for the busier days of the week.
C. C.
Lacking shops, has been taken over by restaurants and cinema.
B. P.
Nothing to exciting. Perfume, pound store, boots, clothes. Nothing for anyone looking for big and tall clothing. Subway is the best place to eat,and the Asian food is of low quality. The sweet and sour taste like granulated sugar.
s. b.
Clarins in Boots, very helpful member of staff who organised my shop for me and App and points on my mobile. Very grateful to her. Security member was also very helpful. Nice to feel custom appreciated!
I. F.
Looking sad now with many empty units or units filled with charity shops. The centre itself is well presented very clean and an enjoyable place to shop it just needs the shops to be in place
B. A.
No shops in here that I use. Sorry.
c. i.
Super clean and lovely Christmas Dec's
First time I had been here.
Lots of.lovely shopsTo browse.
A hidden gem
W. L.
Nice shopping centre with plenty of options. Sailmakers Shopping Centre (formerly known as Tower Ramparts) is a small multi-story shopping centre located in Ipswich, England. It was opened to the public in November 1986. Opposite the main bus terminal in Ipswich and the council building with a Swimming pool.
m.
Love shopping here everything under one roof great on a wet miserable day. Good that you can park under cover when it's raining and there is plenty of parking.
Every shop you could possibly want and mostly good quality shops.
Lots of places to have a coffee or a good lunch. We easily spend a good half day here and mostly get what we came for.
J. E. C.
Glad it's open , Good for going into the shops and having a browse. - Juliana Challenger ITEC VTCT Unique Destinations
S.
Lovely clean shopping centre, not an awful amount of stores but enough. Lots of places to eat and a cinema too.
K. H.
Some empty shops, which is a shame
B. W.
Lovely clean and comfortable shopping with places to eat as well.
M. T.
No shops were open at all which made walking through here immeasurably easier. Its been several days now and I still don't have covid so I'm going to give this place a thumbs up and five stars for that alone.
If you're heading here for shopping it's best to go when the shops have reopened otherwise u may find purchasing items quite difficult.
G. B.
It's a shopping centre near the bus park. I use it as a throughway to/from shopping g Nd catcingthe bus. It has a variety of shops. And clean toilet facilities.
S. A.
Very good for all shopping
G. H.
It was fine on November the 7th when visited.Though lockdown later that week and I expect the toilet facilities will close again, if so, I don't think Ipswich town will have hardly any shoppers from out of town, because of this. Possibly only food n essential shops will be open.
F.
There are a lot of empty shops. They do have a cash machine inside though, and a large toilet/baby changing area upstairs. I tend to only visit boots (which you can access from the high street anyway). Would be great to see a toyshop here.
J. C.
Love the toilets here. So essential on a trip to town.
P. S.
Very impressed with the refurbishment. Toilets are clean and modern. Good little variety of shops, including a couple of food options. Easy access as is in the town centre, no parking linked to the shopping centre but their are areas to park near and in town. Accessible for wheelchair users
S. F.
Boot's chemist, decent priced jewellers, your's, for clothes up to size 30something, BB's cafe, muffins were yummy, last visit there attitude of staff wasn't great, Noodle bar, Subway, poundshop, Toilets upstairs as far away as possible, disabled need's key, charity shop worth a look, Ryman, HMV, never many people in there, a beauty place, newsagents at Tower Ramparts exit with Iceland on other side, best place in the town centre for frozen food but if you have a car their bigger store isn't too far away
D.
Good verity of shops with decent disabled access just a shame they don't ask customers who are not wearing a mask to you one... every time I visit always people walking through without a mask or a badge on display...
V. M.
A variety of shops Pandora, Boots, Icelands, Rymans, Beauty Salon, Poundland, Noodle Bar and much much more, public toilets, disabled toilets, you used to be able to use a mobilty scooter to shop and there was a mobility store but since the lockdowns I'm not sure if the scooters and mobility shop is still there. One entrance at Electic House (Ipswich Buses bus station) the other in Tavern Street, centre of town. Its worth a visit.
S. r.
Loved it great shops
M. A.
Small, clean shopping centre.
Very large toilets but a bit of maintenance needed.
M. S.
Very good with w/c but at the moment it is closed due to covid 19 as it is a in door shopping centre but has everything you could want in a shopping centre,,, hmv is in there subway is also in there as well as a couple of food shops and a stationary shop in there to very good but closed at the moment during lockdown as i said it's all in doors....
K. M.
Hopefully it is now on the up, following new landlords
P. G.
Overall good toilets need a good clean!!!!
K. R.
The entire building is lovely and looks really modern and welcoming. I can’t complain about the refurbishment even after a couple of years it still looks nice and new. The one thing I physically cannot stand and I refuse to use are the toilets. They stink. They just smell so bad I physically can’t use them. They NEED to change whatever rubbish they use to clean them. It’s not a pleasant experience. It wouldn’t take much to put an air freshener in them. The Tesco toilets near me smell better than these 🤷🏻♂️
D. B.
Useful range of Shops. Boots opticians was very good. My wife had an eye test and required new glasses. Due to the complex nature of her prescription she needed to select particular lenses and required a lot of help selecting suitable frames. The staff were really patient and helpful.
D. W.
Only one annoying thing about this place is the lack of sound proofing.
The inmates above sounded as though they were trying to get into my room via the ceiling.
Staff fine, building not too bad, the bed great...but not too much sleep due to noisy inmates...
It is cheapish due to its location
L. S.
It's a pity that this is no longer the vibrant shopping centre it was when it was first built. There's a variety of different shops in there, but also some empty spaces. It would be good if the local council would consider opening these up to small businesses on a trial basis to see if they can make a viable shop
R. J.
Good place to shop.... Could do with better signage Like where toilets are as on top floor
J. G.
Fairly quiet shopping centre. Fair few shops are closed. It's got a pound land and an iceland though!
C. H.
This shopping centre is really handy and has something for everyone. The staff are helpful and it is always clean and tidy. Also there are many things happening there, such as market stalls and art displays.
J. H.
I like Sailmakers Shopping Centre, I'm in there alot and the shops in there are good.
M. H.
Architecture of this shopping mall is great. You can find mixed collections of shops which is really helpful so that shop all the needy things at one place. Christmas adornment is awesome. Each shop is unique and wide range of trendy collections.
M. L.
Not many shops tbh
R. M.
Went to chopstyx noodle bar, it would be useful if Google could show it as being in the shopping centre, as opposed to walking around Ipswich in the rain. Also chopstyx could do more to aid hungry people walking round Ipswich in the rain. Otherwise marvellous
S. M. H.
inside, a pound land store exist
S. D.
Beautiful shopping centre. Full of beautiful women. Also works as a refuge for students, because they can find toilets and places to recharge phones and tablets. Also is a very clean place. The bus station in front also helps the shopping. Is the very core of Ipswich.
P. B.
Has a neat and clean look and feel with plenty of options for shipping from electronic gadgets, jewellery, clothes, house hold stuff (Poundland and Iceland serving the purpose) and off course Subway for having a quick bite. The washrooms are also neat and clean.
Like it visiting
s. c.
Great although quite a lot of empty/closed down units, excellent charity shop on the first floor called Emmaus
B. M.
Plenty of variety shopping wise!
A. B. E.
Clean, easy access but not big shopping centre.. few shops selection.
l. d.
Having not been in town for awhile, but kept clean and few shops open, I went around 3pm so couple stores were closed
S. S.
Really good place to shop
M. W.
One of my main shopping destinations, always a good choice.
S. M.
Recently refurbished but escalators work less now than when it was Tower Ramparts. Lift is slow & in a weird position as are the toilets. Business close quick & a lot of shops have been vacant for a long time. Also closing time of 5:30pm for shops is silly - 6pm would be better...just a thought.
A.
Since the upgrade not much has changed to be honest, the toilets are nicer now but there haven't been enough new popular shops to make much of a difference to footfall. Blue Inc isn't that great and the only shops really worth going to are Topman/Topshop, Boots, and River Island. Nice cafe downstairs too if you need a drink or a small bite to eat.
J. C.
Great place for shopping, there are quite a few closed down shops which make the place feel more empty
I. I. N.
Nice to do shopping inside
J. S.
They've done an amazing job in completely gutting this place out, and refurbishing it and bringing it into the 21st century. The only issue is - the shops. They are absolutely awful. Same old shops and nothing really special. It's a real shame that the Buttermarket (also recently done up) (also really awful shops) has now got all of the food shops which makes this the better place.
R. K.
Many shops to choose from, no restaurants are located here unless you are looking for subway or a small café. Modern looking design, no parking but there are many short distance away. Can attract a not so friendly crowd from time to time.
C. Q.
A good open plan shopping area with elevators and a lift perfect makes it easier for disabled shoppers and parents with child buggies,
C. D.
Very clean good section of shops to choose from 1st visit not the Last
J. M.
Very good
j. d.
Popped down Sunday to get some odds and ends very good experience A++++++++++
T. B.
Half the shops are closed but OK place to go, as my daughter said love the subway
P. C.
Some empty units but otherwise nice clean place to shop
L. J.
A fantastic shopping mall, one or two shops were not somewhere that I usually frequent
L. H.
Relatively big Shopping Centre with a wide variety of stores inside including HMV, River Island, Topshop, Topman, Boots, Poundland, Iceland, Quiz, Pandora and Yours. It includes a few eating facilities also. Toilets are checked quite a few times and due to it are clean(ish) and maintained to an average standard. Security is always roaming around to insure safety of everyone and the store so it’s always monitored.
E. D.
Nicely renovated with newer shops brginning to fill the empty spaces now. Iceland and poundland for budget, a Boots, and some clothing stores including plus sized clothes.
BBs Coffee shop bit slow for service, but pleasant. Has a currency exchange and cash point. Useful area.
C. S.
A small shopping mall in the centre of Ipswich. With the bus station outside, it is easy to get to. There is an Iceland, Pound land, several clothes shops and a couple of places to grab a small bite to eat and drink. There are two floors of shops with escalator and lift access. The public toilets are clean. There is a disabled toilet with an adult changing bench and shower. This needs a Radar Key for access.
J. F.
Places like these are a matter of taste and depend on where you like to shop. As shopping centres go it's a bit on the small side and choice is at a minimum. A recent revamp from Tower Ramparts to Sailmakers has made it feel slightly sparkly again, but a Westfield it ain't.
m. c.
Sadly many shops left or closing. Nice centre with very clean toilets.
S.
Small shopping centre with a variety of shops. Good public amenities. Right next to a bus station.
M. K.
Good selection of shops and food outlets
J. S.
Average shopping centre, has pound land and other more high end shops (jewelers etc) Has W.C. on top floor which links to the bus station
G. B.
Good variety of shops and always worth a look. Ipswich is a lovely town and the centre is historical as well as good for shopping. The only problem is that there was ALOT of pigeon droppings on several streets.
A. J.
I love it in here. Since the refurb it looks so much more welcoming, toilets are always on point. The only issue is the lack of new long term shops!
N. M.
Lee the main attendant and the rest of the staff is a class act. Just about saved my life and deserves a huge pay rise and an exotic holiday for his 109% customer service.
Thanks Lee from ex homeless Neil
P. P.
Calm atmosphere. Could do with more open/active outlets. Come on council give shops a break with more attractive and affordable rates/rentals....
D. A.
It's close to the bus station but there is no dedicated parking. Limited number of shops within the mall. The toilets are more than adequate
D. C.
It's OK, no difference to another
M. M.
One week ago was closed, sow sad, but we wait to be open. In it Shopping centre was closed Quez shop, very sad., maybe only for me,, I loved it shop, nice dresses was in Quez shop!!!, sow sad to lost it shop,, 😒😒😒
M.
Nice place, full of glamour and sophistication. Even for waste time is a very cosy place. But there is a large range of shops, we just regret the Post Office did close down and was very useful there. We live in different times now, and the costumers most of them are from different parts of the world. And the security most be strictly, because Ipswich now has high profile burglars. A friend told me a Romanian burglar goes wherever he likes with a fake key (Master key) and has a device to silence all the kinds of alarms at homes or cars. His name is Georgian Claudio Domitru and has a British girlfriend named Katalin to help him and defend him in all the situations (she drives a little blue Pegeaut). One victim complaint in the police and the police call the victim unwell, probably with dementia and repeatedly did nothing against the burglar. Take care you all in the shopping. See the pictures.
C. P.
Clean and tidy but unfortunately its glory retail days are over unless you like poundland or Iceland.
O.
Love the new design; much more modern and "fresh". Only comment is that there is only a down escalator by the main entrance: to me it would make more sense to have that one going up with the stairs next to it for going down.
J. D.
Newly updated and name changed. I'm sure someone thought it was a good idea and no doubt money made by the contractors.
Dull and uninspiring to say the least.
Pound shop is the popular store of choice here.
D. C.
Nice place shops are oit dated but nice as a total
S.
Great place fr
S. G.
It has a great range of shops and eateries.
I especially live the old fashioned knitting accessory shop. Multiple access points so very accessibly.
C. G.
B Bs a lovely place to meet family and friends, pre lock down a selection of shops that made it simple to finish there and carry on to the bus or car park
T. M.
I preferred it when it was Tower Ramparts and it still had the lift and the cafe at the top
d. c.
Great with free wifi etc but accessible toilets arent accessible theyre on the radar key scheme this needs addressing asap been wheelchair bound since may and this is the only time ive come across it
L.
Has a lot of shops but mostly Fast foods, Cafés, Poundland and a few other shops, only go in if you want to buy maybe a snack or feel like having a quick bite to eat.
A. E.
It is so sad, it is not what it once was. It lacks the wow factor. Just feels empty and lacklustre. We just walked through and didn't stop to shop.
J. S.
Just had a quick walk through did not really look in the shops
S. B.
It’s nice looking but eerily empty sometimes and feels like I’m in a survival horror game just trying to find an unlocked door in this glass labyrinth.
S. C.
Love shopping center with great shops and lovely places to eat in there I would defo recommend this 🛍️ center to anyone's who is in the Local Area
G. B.
Always clean, public restrooms with disabled ones too. Able to use the Free phone charger.
Nice variety of shops.
A. B.
Love the upgrade and better shops inside. Also finally provided a wider range of resturants and not just one at the very top of the building. Well done
E. K.
Recently refurbished and rebranded. It always appears to be well maintained and clean. The shops include Pandora, River Island, Iceland, Virgin Media and Warren James to name but a few.....
R. P. B.
Sailmakers Shopping Centre is a small multi-story shopping centre located in Ipswich town centre. Sailmakers has a wide range of big name brands and independent retailers. Sailmakers is the destination for busy shoppers looking for great retail stores. Great place to shop, take a break at the eat-outs in the mall and you have washrooms as well here. There are very few benches to sit.
H. t. H. u.
Nice and clean medium size shopping centre, path through to bus station .Good venue to rent out a space for representation of a company on ground floor.A desk to rent.
W. H.
Very clean as recently been updated & has topshop & topman, perfume shop, hmv & a few others & also has toilet facilities & usb chargers for your phones & tablets.
M. C. M.
Considerably better since the rebrand. Still not a huge selection of shops, but the atmosphere is much nicer and the recent attempts at modernization have paid off well.
A. S.
Modernised for the better. Not too crowded but a shame a lot of the shops are moving out and closing.
M. C.
It is the best shopping centre I have ever seen in my life. The staff were absolutely amazing and I give 5 star rating of it.
A. S.
Its a shopping centre, built over 2 floors. Both are ground level, one comes off the bus station and the other from the main shopping area/town centre. Comes with a variety of shop units, resturant /cafe and public toilet
M. T.
Only good shopping mall in ipswich.not so many shops there.there are very few clothing and perfume shops.poundland is there.very small shopping mall.still for ipswich you can visit.couple of food stall including KFC is there.located in centre of town centre.you can have one visit if you happened to travel to Ipswich
G. B.
Excellent service in very quaint shop. Lovely meal at good price
M. D.
Lovely and clean, not many establishment s open.
P. P.
Nice play where you can have a break during the day for lunch/tea/coffee. There's a Poundland at ground floor with some good deals.
s. r.
Been revamped from the old tower ramparts shopping centre and is looking pretty good now. Clean and bright and the variety of stores inside seem to be on the up
S. A.
Its nice small shopping centre within Ipswich Town centre. Not many options, but still a good experience to visit. Would recommend if you are visiting Ipswich Town centre.
D. H.
Cool place and its near the bus stop. Also, buttermarket is really close by. I loved ipswich city center... I was lucky since there was a harp player in the streets playing this amazing melody.
P. G.
Pretty standard shopping centre with many of the usual retail oulets you would expect to find. If you want to worship the gods of conspicuous consumption then go here.
S. C.
An okay, small, shopping mall in Ipswich. It’s been renovated within the past couple of years, but doesn’t have many big name brands to draw you in.
C. M.
Since refurbishment this shopping centre is much better. It seems cleaner and warmer. Not as many empty stores and a better atmosphere.
N. “. A.
Probably the most ghostly shopping center you'll ever be in, even on rush hour, it feels so empty, I don't even actually know what shops you can find in here, it looks nice, it's clean but I think that the location is not on their side
J. W.
Found exactly what I wanted. Staff all around were very helpful
G. S.
Nice array of shops and it's getting better. Looks a bit unfinished in places and the public loos are already vandalised in places and need some loving care.
H. B.
Not the cleanest but amazing variety of shops
R. O.
A clean bright shopping centre with an entrance to some decent retail outlets. Part of the town centre in Ipswich I would recommend a peak inside.
K. L.
Very clean, nice appearance, shops all open, social distancing rules being applied
L. J.
Clean and undercover with some good shops
C. F.
Like the other shopping centre in Ipswich, Sailmaker's isn't big enough to be a shopping destination in its own right. i. e. People go there to visit a specific shop within the centre, rather than to enjoy shopping in Sailmaker's as a whole. There's no real character to the place but at least it keeps you dry when shopping.
M. G.
I regularly visit here for my pharmacy needs, who are efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable. Twice I have been taken seriously ill here and have been treated with kindness and professionalism.
K. W.
Always good to go
W. S.
A few good shops and really has potential after the revamp. Just needs a few more bigger named stores in it. Hopefully it can do that now.
W. S.
Good selection of ready meals. Buy two for a fiver. I found bottled beer expensive. We'll worth a visit
D. M.
Good atmosphere, could do with some newer clothes shops like Blue Inc. as some of the old ones in the area have closed down.
R. B.
Ok place to shop it has Iceland, poundland. Boots and fishing shops
H. R.
Love the shops so many to choose from
V. F.
It feels better interior wise now since refurb but sadly the shopping centre has lost its identity as shops do change so frequently.
M. W.
I haven't been in here for over a year, so don't know which shops are closed or open now.
b. c.
It's got a chopstix it gets 5 stars
P. O.
Always good for a coffee break at BB's
M. K.
It's a shopping center. There are a couple of major chains here (boots, river island etc.) It's also an easy walk through to the bus station or main high street.
M. G.
Nice to see all the units full and for the centre to have been modernised to a good standard. Reasonably busy footfall going in and out.
S. N.
Nice place lots of shops.
S. M.
Clean airy and fresh
N. R.
I really love this place
J. F.
It's okay and has a few decent shops but lacks a warm feel or much in the way of anything upmarket
T.
alright selection of shops inc hmv, subway, poundland and topman
J.
Went to poundland for boys lunchbox goodies.
P. H.
Just had a look around not many shops.
M. C.
