Reviews of The Royal Exchange
C. G.
Absolutely beautiful place to come visit even if you don't plan on spending or visiting all of the luxury shops.
The Fortnum and Mason cafe in the centre has great service and coffee, definitely recommend.
The luxury store are very small and allow for great and personal customer service. Definitely come here for a special occasion or shopping for a specific item.
Worth a visit in the area but don't dedicate an entire day.
If you liked my review feel free to give it a 👍 and follow me on Google Maps for more reviews

This was a meal at Fortnum and Mason our son bought for us. Excellent meal, well presented very tasty. But the staff really made the day special. We also went to the Fortnum and Mason shop, and the staff there were excellent, they arranged a table at the restaurant for a cup of tea while we waited to have our meal and looked after our shopping whilst we had our meal. It was our anniversary so the whole day was special.

The Royal Exchange was the double for the Bank of England in the Julie Andrews Mary Poppins and of the two buildings it's easy to see why it was chosen for the film. (BoE is next door). The current building which dates from 1844 inside and out is a grand example of Victorian architecture. The original trading was as a bourse but now it's largely of exclusive fine jewelry and watches with a Fortnum and Mason restaurant.
N. H. A.
There is a small restaurant with a very warm atmosphere, with great tasting coffee and cakes.
D. S.
Simply spectacular !
Amazing food, superb cocktails, and a wonderful atmosphere made even more special by the incredible staff.
I could go on, but I've run out of superlatives :)
We will DEFINITELY be back soon !!
T. T.
Food is of a five star rating, however I have given a 4star purely because, on arrival before you even see a menu you are asked if you would like water, they do not tell you it is £4.75. Apart from this hiccup. It is wonderful here. So romantic.
H. M.
Lovely atmosphere and shops. I like coming here
S. L.
Ate at Mister Lasagna cafe. Got locked in one of their ladies toilet as the door was too tight to open from inside. Latte came too cold, but waiter did change to a new hot cup. This was a random stop.
T. G.
It’s worth a walk through. You can shop there if you like to purchase high end items
C. M.
Architectural wise very nice especially during our visit last Nov’19 with plenty of Christmas decorations and lightings that make it super nice. Didn’t explore the inside much just outside while roaming around. It’s definitely great to roam around within this place as the location is accessible to other tourist spots as well and walking distance to underground 🚊
m.
Nice place with some high-end, though not exclusive shopping and dining. Especially good if you have more money than sense or just want to show off a little. Bit of a tourist trap in some sense, but food and drinks are decent.
V. R.
A little bit sleepy and quite but this is a historic place with a lot of charm, boutiques, food and drink.
n. p.
Great historical place to visit in London. Some great up market shops and cafe/restaurant! One place not to miss in London!
L. A.
Surprise find. Pretty building. If you wish to spend about of time in a posh bit of food and drink then sit at the Fortnam and Mason bar and feel like you work in the big smoke in a highly paid and imp job
J. O.
Had a wonderful evening, great food, interesting venue. Really enjoyable.
J. H.
If you like watches and/or a nice cup of tea at Fortnum and Masons, in a grand building, this is the place to do it.
I. A.
Delivered 3000 red roses to the Royal Exchange this week for Valentine's !
K. U.
Very impressive shopping and eating venue. Went for lunch here and had a delicious meal of scallops, ribeye steak and a very nice cheese platter to finish. The food good, albeit a bit pricey, the staff friendly and attentive. We had a table in the restaurant upstairs, which was fine, but as impressive as expected after the view of the ground floor shopping area.
I. A.
One of the nice and great place that you can enjoy your time and have have a drink and eat in the area it is really deserves to be BA visit Direction
K. N.
Gorgeous and grand former bank that has been converted into mini shopping destination with a fancy bar in the middle of the courtyard.
Besides that, there is not much else you can do, but if you want that Instagram picture, you'll get it here. Plus, if you have money to spend, designer gifts.
P. D.
Nice shopping and food area for those luxury goods. Very quiet when I was there.
B. P.
Me and a friend went for a meal there and the food was lovely and the service was very good. Friendly waiters. Would definitely go back
I. H.
Stunning location, superb range of shops and Fortnum & Mason wine bar.
T. m.
Service was great - Lots of drink choices too.
M. M. R.
Amazing historical place with famous Cafe Fortnum & Mason inside where you could spend quality time.
A.
Nice vibe and some interesting shops to look around, including a mini Fortnum and Mason.
G. B.
First visit and we loved it. A late Crimbo treat. Food was absolutely wonderful. Staff were brilliant..
S. D.
Gorgeous place to grab a drink in the heart of the City of London’s financial center. Fortnum & Mason’s circular bar is the star and the skylights leave such an airy environment to have tea, coffee or a cocktail. You can also shop at the small Fortnums outpost or at Tiffany... where I’m sure you’ll want to celebrate with a glass of bubbly after visiting.
S. W.
Amazing architecture and great afternoon tea .
B. N.
Fortnum & Mason Afternoon Tea - my wife loved it. So, mission accomplished!
D. M.
A really decent shopping centre with high end boutiques and dining.
Covid had certainly has an impact but I'm sure this place with thrive again in the coming weeks and months. It's certainly worth a visit.
And the listed building along, sitting adjacent the Bank, is a good enough reason to visit even if you're not buying.
P. R.
Great scenery and architecture so reminiscent of London's hey-day
G. S.
Great spot for a quick tipple or bite to eat, some beautiful boutiques are tucked away too and with a much quieter experience to other shopping quarters
T. L.
Step into another world, Fortnum and Mason Champagne bar an Art Deco style marvel! Well worth a visit, helpful staff.
E.
My goodness. A very expensive gem in an almost deserted city. They've even got fortnums here. I bought some gin and tonic tea bags - as you do. Go while everyone else is WFH.
M. H.
Fantastic venue, and thank you Andrea for the amazing service! Will be back
E. B.
Attractive place for a bite and a drink with some very classy shops.
O. K.
Great food and nice staff. The place looks even nicer in real life. The bar isn't cheap, but it's a great place to go for special occasions.
D. A.
Busy location near the tower for good value for and drink
M. R.
This is a great venue in the City. A Fortnum and Masons Art Deco bar, was not what I was expecting! I only stopped for a post work tipple , but will be sure to sample the menu on my next visit.
E. A.
Amazing look.. I really like it😍
P. E.
Well worth a visit, recommend Afternoon Tea at Fortnum and Mason
A. M.
Pricey pot of tea, but absolutely delicious! A beautiful oasis in the heart of the city.
B. F.
Nice place to walk in and visit. Shops are high end.
M. Y.
Business hub! But construction is in progress..
T. D.

S. P.
Atmospheric, stylish, expensive- worth it! A 'Feel special' kinda place 🌹
M. S.
Picturesque, excellent serviced and helpful city spot if you"d like to buy an awesome gift or relax in a cosy and tranquil cafe nearby.
C. E.
Fantastic food, really enjoyed my evening here celebrating a birthday. Staff were friendly and nice, is throughout recommend a visit for a special occasion.
j. b.
The royal exchange is the building across the back of England it's a old fashioned shopping centre for jewelry, second hand watches, high end clothing, upper scale food with a hint of casual and the occasional Pop up stores
L. S.
Beautiful building inside out
R. Z.
Architecturally superb. Worth a look. Handy if you need the loo. Don't bother shopping unless you don't have to ask the price!!!
N. M.
Overpriced but it's a beautiful place for shopping and food.
T. L.
Of Course it's good, it's got a Fortnum & Mason champagne bar and shop.
S. S.
The Royal Exchange in London was founded in the 16th century by the merchant Sir Thomas Gresham on the suggestion of his factor Richard Clough to act as a centre of commerce for the City of London. The site was provided by the City of London Corporation and the Worshipful Company of Mercers, who still jointly own the freehold. It is trapezoidal in shape and is flanked by Cornhill and Threadneedle Street, which converge at Bank junction in the heart of the City. It lies in the ward of Cornhill.
K. D.
Nice gallery, arcade in the City of London
J. B.
Beautiful place. A nice place to enjoy a bite to eat during the day, especially when it's raining outside.
A. M.
Beautiful and historic building opposite the Bank of England.
G. S.
My company is based in the building. After the pandemic I haven't been there often butI wish I could... The place is really nice
J. S.
Really beautiful place, definatelly come back there.
A. P.
Incredible service, beautiful products, and v satisfied
K. P.
Fabulously atmospheric with spot on service
C. S.
Nice place for a cup of tea/glass of champagne/breakfast at fortnums.
G. F.
Fantastic location for fantastic shops. Suggest a stop at the Oeno House wine bar and at Fortnum&Mason boutique
S. M.
Very smart inside. High class.
N. P.
Had tea here from Fortnum and Mason. I'm not a big tea drinker, but the experience was great, and the food was delicious! An incredible experience. The building is stunning and a great environment to relax, have a pot of tea, and enjoy great conversation with friends and family.
A. C.
It's amazing for me to walk and visit casually first modern bank on the world on Lombard Street, in a beautiful day on spring time. Still have human proportions and me and building resonated well. ( You know about vibrations).
I remembered when in my first year at Academy of Economics Study in Bucharest I had reading about economic history and the moment when I said I'll going to feel this piece of history. Enough now talking, well I enjoyed to pop in shops around. Different experience than National Bank of Romania. And I worked there 2 years.😞. But I still have in my mind bankers's hypocrisy. Is possible some of them to be genuine good. I don't denied.
Not forget about people when financial crisis crush the world.
S. F.
Great hide away. Nice merchandise
M. M.
Nice and tidy with friendly staff
A. M.
I really thought this building was the Bank of England 🙈 actually is an upscale shopping mall.
M. J.
Very nice place. Exclusive shops and a nice champagne bar
E. A.
Very beautiful historic place
A. B.
Very smart eatery & elegant shops within restored historic building.
E. B.
Good nibbles and Oysters! Staff could need some training on how to prepare certain drinks (eg how to serve absinth). Great ambience and bar design is outstanding.
A. W.
Wonderful place for a drink. One of the nicest bars in the middle of the historic exchange building. The food served is average, cocktails are good but the wine selection is distinctly average.
W. F.
Limited but quality, high-end shopping. Jewellery and watch buyers primarily catered for plus a Fortnum and Mason store. F&M bar/resto/cafe is very nice and usually busy. It's a shame the Paul Smith outlet has gone as the exchange lacks variety.
J. K.
Architectural gem in the heart of London, the scale of the stone work and craftsmanship is stunning to this day. Occupied now by Fortnum & Mason , and a range of top retail brands, there's an expensive air about the place. Well worth a visit.
M. B.
Very nice. Next to the Bank of England in the city of London. This it's a posh shopping place, and a bar, café. Inside. Door man open the doors for you. If you like to get some very nice gifts. It's worth a visit. Or a look around. Also it's a very nice looking building, as well.
J. P.
Anyone visiting the City of London should have a look at the extraordinary architecture on the inside of the Royal Exchange. Also, treat yourself to afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason. Alternatively, pop into their shop for a lovely choice of teas, biscuits or chocolates. They make great souvenirs and special treats. I'm a fan for sure !!!
J. C.
This place is stunning! Head to Watchfinder and ask for Tom if you’re looking for a new watch! Pleasure to do business with.
B. Z.
Very well priced set menu, £20 for three courses. Lovely setting. Staff were a bit slow and I was waiting at the reception area for a while when I arrived but generally a very good experience.
F. M.
Very nice atmosphere. When you think of the historic importance of this place. The Bar is nice. There is one more at the 1st level as well as a nice restaurant. A first date killer I would think.
K. U.
Visited Omega Store for replacement watch strap, item was in stock and was fitted within a few minutes. Also great selection of current models which was no problem for staff to demostrate. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff hope to return soon for a possible replacement model.
H. W.
Super interior, fab Fortnum and Masons bar, excellent loos and emerging to the triangle by the Bank of England....oh my stars, such a classy experience. A must do in the city even if the boutiques around the concourse are deluxe and v v pricey!!
J. G.
Came late with friends (after 10.pm) on Sat 24/11, and nearly empty and soon closing time.
We asked if possible to have a quick coffee.
No problem, and we spent well over 30 minutes talking, laughing over excellent coffee and after.
Not hurried out, on the contrary. Take your time.
So thank you Alli and your team. Your 3 ladies
E. S.
Love it here!!! Especially when watching the world go by whilst sipping on a delightful (and rather pricey) cup of tea at F&M. A great place to relax and shop in the City.
J. C. L.
Good Place for take a coffe
I. L.
The best venue for a business "power lunch"..
A Fine dining and a lovely ambience situated next to one of London's iconic buildings ( ie Bank of England)
A. P. R.
Popped in to visit Fortnum & Mason and had lovely fabulous tea infusion. Marvellous! Beautiful surroundings with high end shopping options.
K. B.
Outstanding in its location, right up to Bank station.
S. L.
The Royal Exchange is not just beautiful but has also got an incredible background.
It had been founded as a Stock Exchange, one of the world's oldest stock exchanges, and it was opened by Elizabeth I of England in 1571.
In middle of the 16th century, just a few years before the foundation of the Royal Exchange, some streets around this place had been the open-air meeting place of London's mercantile community.
The Royal Exchange building was destroyed in the Great Fire of London and rebuilt and re-established in 1669.

m. c.
A great place to shop for gifts and grab a cup of coffee or tea when you're done. Fantastic atmosphere.
A. B.
CHIC&LOVELY AMBIENT ❤️
E. W.
Great meet up place, doorman is very attentive. Coffee house staff less attentive. They like to chatter. Not so good if you have less free time.
D.
Great scotch egg, posh what!
C. H.
I appreciate the historical significance of such a place. But what it has become is very boring. A good site to visit along with Thomas Gresham's home on Lombard Street.. close by.
P. G.
With a wide range of luxury brands here, you will find the prefect gift for that special person in your life. They also have amazing bar you have a drink or some food.
W. L.
Fortrum & Mason restaurant.
What can I say food was to die for. Can't fault it.
A. R.
Extremely pricey and out of reach for us mere mortals. One can still look around though, enjoy the stores (weep over particular items) and have at least a cup of coffee for an instagram shot.
R. S.
Great shops and the Fothums bar and restaurant just sublime
L. 2.
Never done any shopping there but boy it's so beautiful inside you don't need buy anything just cross it and admire the high ceiling and decoration. Not open on weekends unfortunately
B. R.
If you are into watches (like I am) and luxury goods, this is definitely the place for you. It's got Omega, Bremont and Watchfinder as well as a smaller express version of Fortnum and Mason. I would prefer if the watch sales people however we're more knowledgeable but it is definitely worth a visit.
J. H.
Nice collection of luxury shops and a Fortnum Champagne bar in the middle. Impressive building for sure.
E. B.
Nice venue but a few issues finding my reservation, and we had to order our dessert at the same time our main, which I thought was odd for a restaurant of this quality. Food was nice though.
A. B.
Feeling nostalgic as my old place of work London International Financial Futures Exchange. Great memories and fun times working here when trading was carried out traditionally on an open cry pit floor. LIFFE as we knew it. Young and getting paid.
S. I.
Absolutely stunning place to have a coffee and cake but a little open plan so don't expect any privacy.
S. J. C. L. U. K. E.
what can I say' PERFECT! every time, I may just start my CHRISTMAS SHOPPING HERE take care all, bye. 19th OCTOBER 2019. 14:33pm.
S. W.
It's ok, but the shop aren't the kind of shops I go to. There is a fortnum and Mason, but this is more of a tourist trap than high quality grocers.
M. H.
Perfect for teasing yourself with luxury goods. The breakfast in the restaurant is one of the best kept secrets in the city.
J. D.
beautiful shopping district
J. E.
Amazing building, shops and the staff are super freindly too, nice to sit on the steps in the late afternoon and watch the city folk wizz by, worth a visit if stopping at bank on the tube
P. N.
It's very expensive
D. S.
Chic and nice place for some shopping and a drink. Great architecture. Can feel a little empty but beautiful building. Great service
d. e.
Lovely meal and friendly staff. £££ but worth it for the occasion.
P. J.
Inside the royal exchange you can have fresh coffee or tea, also has a rest room facilities, surrounding areas, just offices and coffee or takeaway food.
R. G.

It is modelled on the Bourse in Antwerp, the world’s oldest financial exchange, where Gresham had been based as a royal agent. 📆1571 The Royal Exchange is officially opened by Queen Elizabeth I, who awards it a royal title and a license to sell alcohol. 📆 1660The enterprising Thomas Gresham adds two additional floors to the original trading floor to house retail businesses, effectively creating Britain’s first shopping mall, as pictured in this image from c.1660. 📆1666 The original The Royal Exchange is destroyed, along with one-third of the city, in the Great Fire of London. A second site opens in 1669, designed in a Baroque style by City surveyor Edward Jerman. This second The Royal Exchange thrives with merchants and brokers. 📆1838 In a dramatic twist, Jerman’s The Royal Exchange is also destroyed by fire, most likely caused by an overheated stove in Lloyd’s Coffee House on nearby Lombard Street. 1844 An architectural competition to design the third (and current) The Royal Exchange is launched. The winner, Sir William Tite, reverts to the original layout of the building, but includes an imposing, eight-column entrance inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. The building is officially opened by Queen Victoria in 1844. 📆1901 The proclamation of King Edward VII takes place on 23 January 1901 at The Royal Exchange, mere days after the death of Queen Victoria. Throughout its history, the building served as an important rallying point for the Empire. 📆1941 Trading is suspended following the outbreak of World War II. The Royal Exchange survives, albeit with damage caused in 1941 by bombing during the Blitz. After the war, the traders move out, leaving the building in a state of disuse for several decades. 📆1953 The Mermaid Theatre had a home in the courtyard of The Royal Exchange in 1953 until it was relocated in 1959 to a purpose-built building in Puddle Dock, Blackfriars. 📆1982 In the 1980s, The Royal Exchange briefly returns to its trading past when the London International Financial Futures Exchange moves in. During this time, the rotting Victorian roof is replaced and two floors of new offices are added. 📆2001 The Grade I-listed building is extensively remodelled by architects Aukett Fitzroy Robinson in 2001, transformed into a luxury shopping and dining destination. Though an entirely different building from his original design, the modern-day The Royal Exchange pays homage to its founder in its gilded copper grasshopper weathervane – a symbol taken from the Gresham family crest. 📆2019 Today, The Royal Exchange continues to remain true to its retail roots. Unique in the City, it remains one of London’s finest landmarks. 💷London,👷🏻♂️England,United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland🇬🇧, 🌡 14° C

Here is one of the historical place where you must visit in city. You can enjoy the restaurant inside with your friends.

Some of the best restaurants in London are on the ground and first floor of the Royal Exchange building. There are a lot of luxury shops, as well, like jewellery and watches, etc.
