Reviews of Watney Market
N. K.
Like this market. Friendly stall owners with good fresh fruit and veg. Also, cheap and cheerful clothes which are great to dress up or down.
J. P.
Lots of clothing options at good prices.
S. “. A.
Good market stalls. Welcoming stallholders. Some market traders sell similar things there are also cafés and food stops and convenient stores as well as the stalls.
A. M.
Different shops like clothing, food, accessories, etc. There is an Iceland next to the market. Clothes are mainly Asian type then some cardigans, coats, sweaters. Lots of vegetables and fruits that are comparatively cheaper are available here.
N. I.
One of the few old market places left in east london, you have a quite wide range of stalls and shops from material pieces, fruit and veg, households, groceries to even pound land, peacocks and iceland
G. G.
Very fresh fruit @ amazing prices. You have to come early!!! And buy from Hussein, he runs the fruit and veg stall in the middle ish area.
I'm a fruitarian and need a good supply of fresh produce. Though it's not organic, it's way better priced and often better quality than your traditional London city supermarkets. One thing that does bother me is that sometimes they will have rotten fruit on display... maybe they're trying to test wether or not they're a chance to sell it? Make sure you choose well! The produce in plastic bags are £1, but they're also older than the produce that are not packaged in the bags.
I usually get fresh mangoes for £4 for a box of 12! Watney market and the market by Whitechapel is where I get 95% of my groceries. The prices simply can't be beat.
a. k.
Good market with loads of things you can buy. Has a wimpy too , which is a bonus considering how few of these are left in the country.
Nice cultural area.
S. M. Y.
Very good market local friendly even has an Iceland superstore, opticians, Shadwell railway 3 minutes away
M. I.
nice community shopping place. no public toilet, no car park. halal food is available.
Z.
Lively and bustling place. The market has plenty of fresh fruits and vegetable stalls. There is a key cutter, Fishmonger, Asian dress shops, grocery shop, cafes, pharmacy and plenty of bargain shops. You can find all sorts of things here. There is even a DIY shop here
b. k.
From clothes, to food, to home decor, kids toys, stationary, cafes and restaurants, and much much more......Watney Market has it all. The market caters to the local community, which is predominantly Asian Bengali, and therefore you will find halal food and traditional pieces catering to cultural and traditional values! Perfect!!!
L. S.
Great fabric at Paul's fabric shop. Miss them coming to St.Ives Market. Lots of fruit and veg stalls with lots of unusual produce thats not easy to get elsewhere. Enjoyed my visit here.
M.
Lively place where the stalls are closer together. Decent variety of things on offer, though the clothing being sold is predominantly Muslim/Asian cultural styles. It's a relatively small market, so that's ok - if you know your local markets, then you know where to go for a choice of particular things. The surrounding shops are useful, covering family clothing needs, general groceries, fabric and sewing supplies and there's a large Bengali food store that's well worth a visit.
J. A.
This is a local market. It has what you need for day to day living. Also there are covid tents dotted about should you feel the need to take a quick test.
F. D.
The market offers a wide range of stalls but there are no toilet facilities, thought they would be provided by LBTH council.
Z. M.
Nice diverse small market .. Fresh Fruits, Vegetable ... etc
I. H.
Its watney market
Everything is local and at good price
Sometimes area isnt clean but it's an ok area and nice markets
N. A.
Open air Asian Market.
Has almost everything you could imagine.
l. s.
Quite-ish these days, but a small bustling market - ok for fruit and some women's clothes. That's all.
I. M.
Fantastic for fruits & veg. Lots of unique clothes shops, one of best places for scarfs, rugs and things needed for home. Iceland is always a pleasure with lots in stock for big families
J. G.
Makes getting around the area a bit hard, very slow walkers, the fruit and fish doesn't seem the freshest as I think it is just hauled out for the market every day. I've had some semi-mouldy pineapples but also so really yummy ones! Very cheap. Can get a pineapple, basket of kiwis, bananas, strawberries and melon for like 4£. Friendly clerks if you are engaging and friendly too. I live on the market.
f. l.
Little Market where you can have, vegetables and fruits or the basic for the house cheaper.
J.
Good variety of market stalls reasonably priced. Cheap vegetables can be found here.
D. H.
Great market with many shops to buy fruit and veg
Y. S.
I had ok time, but there under tone gang behaviour in the area. A person well known to was stop and insulted person looking for fight saying he did not like a particular race.
S. K.
Reasonable but small eastend market, loads of space to move around social distancing not a problem here, interesting mix of stalls, when the fish stall is on the market its worth a visit, a range of shops on either side of the market on the whole there not to bad a mix of food, DIY, pound type shops and food shops
J. V.
Good place to get your daily groceries. Pretty cheap. Vegetables are sometimes not the freshest and hence you need to look and inspect them before you buy. It has been my go to place to get fresh fish.
M. L.
Nice place a shame Percy Ingle bakery is now gone. Lime Cafe are very hospitable - make sure you drop in for a special fruity mint and honey tea and a samosa or curry. Also a good watch repairs stall also a decent diy place and Chemist.
K. P.
A place to get clothing and food from shops and Iceland. The market he's various stores.
I. R.
Been to this place ever since I was a kids and I love it every time I go there obviously there has been so much improvement and loads more shops excellent service from all the shops
J. A.
Very good market for aevery thing you can get together
B. Q.

A. U.
Stalls Good for clothes scarfs, cardigans , dresses , kids clothes fruits veges and fish. Also nice materials to make dresses and kameezes
A. C.
Good, but not too clean.
f. h.
There are no big retailers here.
Lot of local shops
B. I.
The cheapest market for buying goods specially clothes, dishes, vegetables, fish and many more. Also, its familiar for Bangladeshi community in London.
p. a.
I'm living near by, full of life and products.
Let's say you can find anything in a little piazza,
I would like more illumination on nights but it's alright . You got DLR station and overground station about 1 min walking and there....by the stations it's where you can find the best grilled tandoori chicken. Santander bycicle station in site. I don't know if this matter to you but it's a Muslim hood. Any questions just ask.
Pablo
S. R.
I do shopping here many years and I am happy because I can find and buy all the things in one place - not need to go somewhere else🆒
A. M.
They were good and quick prices ok ok could get better price
D. F. L.
Great variety of international and local food....
S. E.
You will find everything cheap at a good price, pound shops and vegetables and fruits
N. B.
Not bad for shopping. You can get almost everything from clothes, to shoes, DIY stuff. The Iceland and fabric stall is good. The fruit and vegetables stalls are pricey.
B. L.
The market is full of Bangladeshi vegetables and has some shops which are owned by local Bangladeshi community such as DIY shops, grocery, cafe and other stores. This place is used as a short cut to walk to Whitechapel or to Wapping.
D. A.
Small but nice shopping market. It also has an optician.
M. R.
Nice place lots around the market, only downside is no parking and the place was overcrowded, not much social distancing going on.
M. K.
Needs a bit of maintenance around the area, broken steps, H&S nightmare...
S. Z.
For fruit and veg, look no further
H. K.
Hey Bengali people come to visit here sometimes.
N. A.
Love the kebab. Great with price
D. D.
Okish for the basic stuff, doesn't look great and feels extremely old. It's mostly CASH ONLY which is crazy given the risk of COVID now! This really put me off and I didn't get anything , not even the electric bulbs that I needed.
B. W.
Everything you need in one place. From stalls and shops for fruit, veg, food, snacks, clothes, bedding, key cutting, shoe repairs, to handy stores on the sides for taking care of your health, appearance and belongings such as a chemist, an optician and a great dry cleaner and tailor! I have probably missed out a lot more little things which come in handy, for example, 2 cash machines. Overall, worth a visit.
Y. S.
Like a Local market for your daily needs (vegetables , fruits , kitchen needs , utensils , floormat , bathmat carpet ..clothes , kids school uniform , shoes, inshort anything and everything .
D. P.
Can find a good deal here. Have bunch of grocery, food and clothing shops.
E. D.

A. R.
Good fresh vaggies
M. S. H.
First time ever visited was impressed
S.
I do visit this market it list once a month
K. M.
Good little shops with salwar kemeez which are lovely and comfortable, and great fruit and veg in general, handy little market
S. A.
Fruit & Veg stalls are really good, such a great variety.
M. C.
Just one minutes walking from my house, market every day except on sunday.
You will find fresh fruit and fish, plus other commercial shop open as usual.
Then you will have clothing and jewellery, but only for Bengali
S. m.
It's affordable place to buy the cloths and some other stuff like fruits and vegetables but if you go with kids almost all the sellers are smoking also you will not stand the smell of wee, the sellers wee every where there
A. A.
Good vegetable deals. ✓Asian market ✓Chemist ✓Butcher ✓ Key duplication shop ✓ Laundry shop ✓online orders drop-off point ✓ Hardware
K. A.
I like go foe vegetables shopping the I get feel like my back home
S. S.
Brilliant. A lot of different stalls and shops. You can get almost everything here.
C. S.
A small market in the east end of London that sells clothes, fresh fruit and vegetables, jewelry, fabric and household items. It is nestled amongst a few shops including Iceland and a bakery. It is a very short walk from Shadwell DLR Station. The market is always clean and the stall holders friendly.
R. D.
Small market off commercial road, there are several stalls selling fruit and vegetables, cheap clothing, key cutting and more, the best stall is a fishmonger with fresh quality fish and good prices, catering also for European buyers, spanish specially. The market is at is biggest on Saturdays. Not really beautiful, nor touristic.
A. A.
I love this place it shows what the bengali community is good at. The battering deals and feel of community here is such a nice buzz.
The only thing that I would want there is a BBQ restruant nearby have some variety in the area. To many places to get junk food.
Otherwise fantastic.
m. w.
Not the greatest place I visited. Greasy spoons cafe is a low standard, food all but amazing. In the shops customer care is an option.
Good points? The transport to head off!
S. I.
The open market area is a little unclean. They have stalls for clothing, bedding, loose cloth, fresh veg and fruit ,and etc.
Peacocks is there with Iceland.
There’s a tailoring shop. Charity shop.
Pound shop. Hair salon and food shops.
There’s a DLR station too.
D. A.
Diverse market, you will find whatever you are after! Within a small shopping complex so you cannot go wrong! Cafes everywhere!
D. S.
I got what I needed but not everyone's cup of tea
S. K.
Love it... The stalls are great.. vegetables stalls, hijab stalls, material stall and more. Can find most things
B. F.
Has a nice Icelands shop a tiny Peacocks, and a number of indipendant shops, as well as a very basic market with stalls selling fruit and vegetables and a couple of stalls selling scarves and garments. This is certainly not destination shopping but if your local its handy for your basics.
m. c.
Very good produce and friendly people
M. W.
Local bargains to be had. Has an Iceland, market with all sorts available and 2 row of shops with everything
T. R.
The positives: Excellent place for fruit and vegetables and good for groceries.
The disadvantages: The main reasons I'm giving a 3 star is this place always smells of urine and it is extremely dirty and not well looked after.
M. J.
Market is okay. Lots of Asian fruit and veg stalls
s. S.
Nothing much there now only iceland
R. Z.
Okay area, it's quite diverse and has many local Asian goodies. Can smell a bit like p*ss if you're too close to the sides, but if you're just strolling through the middle, it should be fine.
R.
Great little market with some stalls for clothes, fruit and other food all whilst home to a Iceland, Percy Ingles, Chemist, Dry Cleaners, Pub and DIY shop. Bus stops and DLR/Overground close by.
A. M.
Holborn Totten am court road big two india
M. K.
Living close to here, it's lacking a lot. But then again, its just a tiny street boasting a market most days. Selling everything from fruit and veg, a fishmongers, clothing stalls and beddin. An honest review would detail this area has a large bengali community. So if the market sells styles of clothes reflecting this. They have a peacocks store. Chemists. Iceland. Glickmans. Wimpy. Perry ingles. 3-4 poundshops. Diy-Decorating store. A celebrations card and gift store. A charity shop. A print your pictures to canvas, the shirts, cups type shop. A car enthusiasts shop. A very good dry cleaners. A small supermarket for locals to perhaps compete Icelands. Depending on what you are used to. This isn't the best nor the worst. Just an honest grab at what's there. Two minutes away you have sainsburys and tesco express stores on commercial road. Subway. Efes restaurant.
E. S.
Lots of veg and fruit stalls. There are mostly bengali fish and mear bazaars. Local pub, bakery shop, charity shop, tool shop etc.
Idea store is nearby as well as Iceland and peacocks. Shadwell station is nearby as well as buses.
V. d. C.
Great to buy cheap fruits and veg. Sometimes you can find 5 avocados for just £1! Don't buy meat or fish though..
b.
In serious need of investment and a deep clean- but a wide selection of stores and stalls... varying in quality. Very busy and difficult to walk through when trying to get to Shadwell station
T. T.
This market has everything you need. Reasonable fruit and veg stalls, hardware shops and even a Wimpy. It's no frills but I can get everything in 1 place.
M.
Good little market for all sorts of food, clothes, and household items
M. A. M.
You can get almost all you need in within 2 miles of this area. Car parts and Accessories, hair salons, clothes shops, grocery shops, bakery, dry cleaners and on and on... Just needs a bit of more cleanliness...
s. h.
Accessible from Shadwell DLR and local bus services; has a peacocks & Iceland & a wimpy(so rare!!) a hairdressers, pharmacy if Tower Hamlet's want to bring more revenue to the borough provide shops were people will come it might be a good idea to change-provide better stalls
r. p.
Watney is like a shopping centre, there are a variety of stalls, clothes for adults and children, fruit and veg, household essentials, fabrics, key cutting, fresh fish, jewellery, even a nice plant stall on Fridays, and not to forget the surrounding shops like Iceland, Peococks, chemist, hairdressers, Asian supermarkets, gift shop, DIY, the list is endless.
G. J.

T. M.
Is good but sometimes fruits and vegetables are no good I mean they are no fresh
