Reviews of The Gate
T. C.
A nice hangout for friends and family specially for kids with play area!!
Halal Nandos within the premises!
Unfortunately no parking outside but nearby parking available at reasonable charge!!
Rest rooms, elevators and lifts available with wheelchair access and entrance!
Very well maintained and tidy!!
Kids / youngsters play area includes air hockey, water cannon, power shooting, basketball, car racing, motor biking and many other options!!
Recommended for couple of hours outing!!
T. k.
It's alright its got a few bars and restaurants and game of throwing which we had a good time doing for an hour
D. S.
Lift was great and the view from the second floor was awesome 👌.
C. S.
We visited Yume World in the gate, the kids loved it, soo many machines to play and soo easy to play with the contact less card set up you just top the card up and tap it on the machine you want to play. Highly recommended to visit
B. D.
Lovely place for shopping and every different type of eatery. We visited Nandos and the staff are amazing in there, one in particular, Olivia, you made our evening all the more better. Thanks, Bryan & Ann
N. K.
Been here few times a ice clean place. It has the pictures /cinema inside and couple brs and restaurant, also casino right at top. Situated right near local bus route and bus station and also near metro service. It is close by to many other restaurants and pubs. Fast food outlets and also eldon square shopping centre. If your football fan like me your close to Newcastle united football club, yaaay ⚽. Overall beautiful place and city, well worth a visit either for the day or even short stay as close by to many a good hotel..
L. B.
Used to be buzzing this place but it’s lacking excitement and entertainment, needs a posh food place too for date nights. Not enough to make you stay in the place, maybe add bowling? Sports bar?
M. A.
I've only used the car park recently but it's very convenient and relatively inexpensive. It's also worth noting that it's one of the few city centre carparks to have the height to accommodate higher vehicles.
T. M.
Haven't been for a while but it was great
D. M.
We mainly go to cineworld but there are some good places to eat like fridays love the place and a couple of pubs. Good time in there whenever we have gone.
G. R.
Cineworld was clean and tidy really enjoyable shame about the carparking didn't realise its free but need to get it validated by the Cineworld staff. Maybe ask customers if they have parked in the Gate
S. F.
Visited The Gate to watch a film at the Cineworld cinema. Chose to view a movie on the ScreenX and it proved a good choice. The wraparound screen proved a really good way of watching Top Gun: Maverick. It was almost immersive.
M. G.
Bars, eateries, Aspers casino, cinema...all under one roof over two sides of a mall and over two floors! Brilliant in the winter rather than pub crawling through the snow, rain and wind in your best kit ☺️👌🏽A very popular venue all through the week, night and day 🙂👌🏽
J. S.
Went to YuMe World with the kids.
They love it!
We hate it!
£120 gone between 3 of them in about an hour.
Apparently it's the best place in the world for them.
Sorting a bank loan for our next visit which Is happening very very soon the kids are telling us.
N. S.
Great place to partake in a multitude of things from a pint in the weatherspoons to Pizza hut and if you fancied some fabulous interactive gaming too. Spotlessly clean and very safe...
R. H.
There's a lot one can get up to in here. You can watch a movie, do some gaming, there's an arcade, pubs, restaurants, and more! If you're not sure what to do for the day just walk in there and see what tickles your fancy - as long as you don't mind forking out the cash.
P. S.
Great entertainment center. There's a bar, arcade, cinema and places to eat. Great place to spend time for both adults and kids.
m. s.
It's a multi business platform, having bar casino and movie theatre. Place is very nice and crowdy. Best time to visit and weekend.
P. L.
Lots to do and easy parking. Visited CTRL Pad with my children who had a great time and the staff were fantastic. Looking forward to using the other facilities in there.
B. M.
Good times at the Gate.
Plenty of fantastic establishments inside. from arcades to bars, food, escape rooms, cinema and a casino. there is something there for everyone
H. S.
Really comfortable seats fantastic film a little expensive but worth it. 👏
A. M.
Good selection of bars here also a casino good night out
P. S.
Went to cinema, good cinema, but some small seating areas, but screens a good size...bit pricy though
J. G.
A good entertainment complex. Toilets could have been better maintained.
S. T.
Really enjoyable and a good challenge for those who enjoy escape rooms/challenges. The man on the desk was very helpful. 20% Student discount is also a big bonus!
C.
Great place. Seems like there is a party indoors as well as on the street outside. I thought that I was the oldest person in there but that turned out not to be the case. Lots of different venues to choose from. Check it out.
D. C.
Wonderful location. As you would expect from a premier Inn. Rooms as spacious and equipped with the normal as you would expect. Friend and helpfull staff.
R.
It's OK for entertaining.plenty of restaurants and a odeon to watch a movie with the family
D. W.
Always a good atmosphere and kept clean, only reason for the 3 stars is that it's lacking from pre covid lockdowns
p. b.
Good simple food, done right, lively spot in an entertainment complex. Nice, if you want to be in thick of it, but if you fancy a quiet meal, this may not suit you. Even though busy, we didn't have to wait long for the food. Though we did have to call the staff to clear our table before we could sit down, but this could be because they were very busy, as we were there at the start of freshers week.
E.
Cinema is great, very modern, and the arcade is so much fun. Vintage shop is well worth a visit too!
G. t.
Had a fun time with the eldest. Hit Mulligan's for some mini golf and pool. Then onto pizza hut for their buffet. Then hit yumi world for some arcade fun.
L. T.
Broooooooooooooooooo I went here with people from first year and then in my third year I met someone who looks like someone from first year wooooow No Way Home was soo good I hate to admit I cried so many times haha
M. A.
Absolutely everything you need in one building session to food to vr arcades what more could you want
A. K.
Fun place not only for kids but for adults and group of friends who love having fun just gaming.
A. B. S.
The place is good to hangout with friends. They have gaming centres, restaurants, cinemas, a casino etc. It's lit
D. W.
I’ve loved this place for years, it has plenty of things to choose from all day and night.
It’s has plenty of restaurants to choose from, bars and casinos and a large cinema on the top floor so you will never be bored here.
Always busy and has a large car park on the back.
I. L.
We visited the wonderbar for drinks and darts. Good service, friendly staff and cocktails were rather tasty! Darts was also a good twist and great fun
A. H.
Great cinema experience! Lovely breakfast in the Wonder Bar!
s. k.
Had Great experience with cineworld cinemas and pizza hut as well
b.
Great selection of entertainment venues and restaurants all under one roof.
A. O.
Bit quiet as it was a Sunday but my daughter went to selfie Central and loved it
k. 9.
The gate has great parking with loads of different restaurants and a very fun arcade.
We did axe throwing there which was amazing.
Weatherpoons was great especially for a cheap breakfast.
The arcade on the 1st floor was amazing we loved it and felt like kids again.
Thanks for a fantastic experience.
N. W.
The elevator took a long time to come .
The electric staircase was not working .
But I like the Gate.
Hopefully they fix the problems.
P. B.
Took child to see bad ones, enjoyed film , price was reasonable. Would recommend.
L.
Great small Place. Inside is a Cinema, Escape room, Small Arcade as well as a few restaurants. Great for Day Life and Night life as the downstairs bars turn into clubs. Has Security as well as Centre of the City Centre! Also Includes a Confusing and costly underground car park. They Could improve on the more indoor free games as had in the past (Table Tennis and Soccer Tables).
E. E.
Good night/meal out with mates. Been before. Will go again
S. S.
Fantastic mix and match place to chill out, have plenty of restaurants with nice food menu.
J. D.
The Gate always has and always will be a great venue, everything you need under one roof!
A. B.
Almost every alternate day I go to gate to see movie. Excellent place to handout with friends.
A. H.
Not to go with kids after 5 pm due the pubs and casino. Otherwise fab
R. R.
Complete entertainment center. From food, dance, movie, games to casino.
p. j.
Good range of food places and alot of fun stuff to do
D. G.
There's everything you could need hear in terms of entertainment and food, there is a wide verity of restaurants and bars and there is multiple entertainment areas including an arcade with vr rigs and a gaming area with consoles and pcs every floor is accessible by stairs, escalators or lift and is wheelchair accessible.
B. C.
Plenty of choice for places to eat and drink, great atmosphere.
C. T.
Loved the silent adventure Newcastle starting off at the gate was absolutely brilliant
C. A.
A nice selection of places to Dine after you have had some fun on the various entertainment facilities located close by.
c. m.
Good cinema halls... it has games zone and good food court... but beware of the payments done inside the premises. It will detect money from the account and the tickets won't get printed.....
P. I.
Fine plenty of entertainment for young adults etc but not a lot for younger kids
L. M.
The Gate is a big place with loads of activities going on including bars. I did go to The Wonder Bar but it was lovely getting into this place as a whole because it was so beautiful and the security officers were very pleasant.
S. H.
A good venue with the biggest Cineworld in the North East.
T. P.
Hmmm, just another 'experience' center. At least it has a Spoon's!!
A. C.
Staff are great plenty of stuff to keep yourself amused aswell
s. f.
Would have given 5 stars, but I'm too old for most the bars!
B. R.
great place only really bars n places to eat xx
K. G.
Visited in the evening to play on the arcades. You had to buy a prepaid card in multiples of £5 which was annoying as we couldn't just play a quick game of airhockey. Would have been fine if we were staying for longer tho. And the 2p machines were fun :)
K. J.
There's not a lot in there except restaurants and the ones there aren't that good.
H. B.
Great place for a family day out, or a date. Reccomended highly.
J. N.
Saw The Duke. Great film wonderful seats and lovely staff.
S. W.
Late Friday afternoon, nice place but no atmosphere, cold.
K. M.
Wow great experience. Everything for a full on day at your fingertips. No shopping for me but great food and lots of fun in the wow bar. Highly recommended
M. F.
Lots of places to eat, depending on what price you wish to pay and child friendly ,and also Cinema World,
l. a.
One of the most happening places in the city center. Lots of pubs and hotels around this area.
C. H.
Spot on.....good food ...staff are great.
S. A.
Very much updated since the last time I was there. Great place to start your night out
D. H.
We actually only visited the Pizza hut on out visit as it was late at night and we were celebrating 🍾our son's graduation from University as he has attained a first in his 👋Masters degree in Mechatronics.
What we saw of the centre was quite pleasant surroundings and well lit up with a variety of entertainment and eateries open to the public.
C. T.
Great place with lots of things to do inside. A decent selection of restaurants, arcade games and more
R. B.
Nachos, drink and ice cream for a full on cinema experience. Except didn't finish nachos due to noisy crunching. Good film from a comfy seat.
D. C.
Lots of things to do. Great place to be for food and drink, with fun things to so inside for the kids
R. R.
Nice for food, drinks, casino and the cinema 👍🏻
L. A.
The gate is nice for a few drinks and the cinema
E. D.
Needs more pub's and restaurants but massive potential
M. D.
Terrible parking but lots to do inside, excellent and highly recommended
O. M.
Love the shops and has a variety of the food court.
M.
Feels like an extremely modern area, a large variety of things to do including a 10v10 table football table
j. b.
Nice food reasonable price and as many coffees as you want with receipt
R. C.
Allot to do here, went to the nightclub they have here, went to Pizza Hut (Too expensive) and Isaw some pretty cool looking Arcades with VR headsets and a gaming cafe. If I wasn't busy? I'd visit it for a cuppa.
D. W.
Indifferent. There is many well known brand venues (cineworld, Nando’s, Wetherspoons, Pizza Hut, TGI) in this complex but the lack of vendors on the first floor is very noticeable. Competing with the local Eldon Square dining quarter has brought tough times to the Gate but the one advantage is the Parking complex underground that brings many people to the location. Once more restaurants and bars are up and running with more footfall, this place will be like it used to, a leisure destination
H. D.
This place was great staff friendly and helpful drinks really cheap too will definitely go back
S. W.
It's clean, has nice staff and a car park and also has good restaurants, toilets and an arcade and cinema, giving it almost everything you could need for a night out in one location making it a great entertainment centre
N. I.
Excellent place. Enjoyed it very much. Thanks. England 🇬🇧❤️❤️
D. H.
Well it's ok for a quick meal and drinks, not far from the centre of Newcastle
J. M.
Wonderful place to visit in Newcastle. Provides a variety of options indoors, for places to eat and a wonderful cinema to watch the latest movies.
M. W.
Love this place great staff at the Keel Row
D. F.
Typical Saturday evening post-match atmosphere.
W. H.
Good for all the family plus car parking
s. b.
Good little area with some pubs in and enjoyed the atmosphere within the complex
B. N.
Not bad a bit cold and dark for me
S. M.
All the entertainment you need in one place! Lovely décor
F. D.
Always a lovely place to meet friends. Quiet tonight so socially distancing not a problem. XXX
V. S.
Massively wasted open space. Was so cold. However the weatherspoons was lovely.
M. S.
Loved it so much choice cheers mo
A.
It's quite busy given It's size but has quite a few different things to offer from entertainment to food options.
A.
Lovely place with pubs, cinema and food places inside
N.
Brilliant staff and venue. Food and drink selection is great. Very well situated with shopping and various restaurants close by.
j. M.
Always enjoy watching movie here
C. R.
It's an okay place. Not as lively as it once was. Only seems popular for hen and stag do's.
g. v.
The building is incredibly modern and simply beautiful both inside and outside.
It is also super tiny though, so I wouldn't really call it a shopping centre.
It may be possible that some larger part was closed due to the pandemic, but looking at a map it's unlikely.
S. A.
Amazing atmosphere and entertainment. The 4D cinema is underrated as it was the best movie experience I have had in England.
j. f.
Basic shopping centre with pubs and food outlets mostly
M. M.
Dirty slow uneducated food staff being my three reasons for this review
C. Y. L. G.
Good place to hang out.
The cinema is so nice, it has variety of snacks and are really good for a considerable price. Also, it is really clean all the cinema. They have students discounts.
And there are other really nice place to drink and have fun with good prices and promotions
A. A.
Good location with a cinema and a selection of restaurants to pick from
t.
good spot to go, plenty of bars and entertainment spots to visit
S.
Great place to watch cinema and can find plenty of restaurants as well…
J. K.
Always a good place to spend some time for a meal or drink. Especially the cinema at the top floor.
A. N.
Good selection of bars and places to eat also there's a cinema and casino.
J. B.
Great shops and eating places
The sale of antique clothes shop is a must to visit.gorgeous clothes and bags.
D. B.
One of my favourite locations in Newcastle, good bars, restaurants and activities.
T. K.
Great choice of different types of places.
M. H.
The Gate is an entertainment complex. It has a mix of bars, chain eateries, casino, video gaming centre, and a namco-esque funscape centre. Some empty units pervade the centre. The Gate just acts as a front door and corridor to these premesis. The newly refurbished cineworld cinema complex on the 2nd floor has over 12 main screens, and IMHO is the best cinema in the region!
Public toilets are on the 1st floor. Slowest lifts ever. Basement is the underground car park via lift, which is acccesed round the back in Stowell Street.
H. R.
We visited Yume Games arcade in The Gate Great fun for all the family Virtual Reality was a huge success with boys aged 8 and 10
K. M.
an indoor food and bar (and cinema) complex so ideal for a night out when it rains, ha
in seriousness there's a good range of bars and restaurants for low-mid budgets : many specials and happy hours and a bit everything under one roof
mind - it can sometimes feel you're in the middle of a shopping centre.
But, Opera is great for cocktails - a few good foodie places.... yeah, it's not bad.
A. Q.
Very nice place to eat and have fun
d. l. J.
Has a good Pizza Hut upstairs.
m. d.
So many great shops and restaurants
H. B.
Regular visit to the cinema could do with more choices of food places seems to change and close them down but it's clean and tidy games provided for your amusement. Enjoy a pizza and shake from pizza hut now and again after are before a movie.
K. R.
Once a great place . Sadly now as many of the food places are closing down. It's a bit id ghost town as you walk up to the Cinema on the top floor .. Old fashioned compendium of games on a large public scale .encourages footfall to stay longer . Depends on time you go too !!
P. R.
Bit soulless, like a shopping precinct 🙄
C. P.
I was at the Cinema on the new 4DX chairs & it was a blast.
Warning though, if you have a bad back like me it can be painful so give them a try but it can cause worse pain.
Otherwise it is a fantastic experience & great fun for you & the kids.
Also had a very nice meal in Fridays Bar/Restaurant, it's expensive but the food is second to non.
Tip: Try The Rib Eye Steak... Yummy.
A. G.
Not my type of bar but it looked smart and quite a few people in 15 quid an hour to play darts was not my idea fun tho !!
S. B.
This was class, escape rooms were brilliant, also managed to get myself a lovely chap pair of jeans.
L. C.
The new seating in the cinema although beautiful are not designed for people my height. There werent many people in our screen to generate warmth - take a thick cardi or coat as they were saving money on the heating. The tickets were very reasonable 2 for 1 on a Tuesday.
D. M.
This is a very good place that is great for a day. Inside there are various games such as battleships, table tennis, scrabble, chess, and even a giant football table. These make for great fun in between going to one of the various restaurants available, or while waiting for a movie in the cineworld cinema upstairs. As well as this, it is attached to aspera casino. A large car park is attached which makes for convenient access.
P. G.
Went fir £3 films and the escalators off
D. Y.
Fun modern atmosphere, fresh clean look, lots of recreational places to go, including a spoons, buffets, pizza and casinos, but overall the greatest thing is the free to play table top games and giant scale games, they make an amazing addition to the place and make it so much more fun, I'd love to see more put in place
G. 5.
I've only been here a few times, and each time was great, it's in a beautiful, modern and clean building. I've been here to go to the cinemas - amazing experience! And for a meal. Highly recommend!
H. T.
It has very good prices for cinema tickets and the restaurants all being located within is great for quick access for food but if you don't want to eat any at any of the restaurants within you can take a quick walk to many other places since it's at the heart of Newcastle. The only downside is within the cinema the screen quality is not as good and screens are smaller. If you just want a good time out with friends or family it's perfect but if you are cinephile some other places may offer a better experience.
B. E.
Cinema is probably the best thing about this place. Can't really comment on the restaurants cos I've never been in any of them. The bars are probably best avoided they always seem to be full of idiots the few times I've been in. Much better bars elsewhere in the toon.
T.
Love the gate. A nice balance of food, drink and entertainment, and it always feels clean and airy in there. The youngsters of the family loved the new arcade also. As did the oldies!
D. H.
Came here for the cinema only.
We don't come in here otherwise.
The arcade that's in here is incredibly expensive.
There's a nice pizza hut in here and a zaza bazaar buffet restaurant which is fantastic.
The rest of is bars and some other restaurants.
B. D.
Good selection of restraunts and the cinema is very good
b. x.
Great pubs and restaurants in the gate. Some cheap some more classy. And the great cinemas with magical experiences upstairs.
S. H.
Plenty of pubs to choose from with some great offers, good choice if you want to stay indoors for a mini pub crawl. Not as many restaurants to choose from now as the new food court in Eldon Square is open.
Cinema at the top with cheap night on Tuesdays.
K. S.
Very clean, lots of food options although everywhere is expensive. The casino is an Interesting facility considering the surrounding businesses. The floor is very slippery and I have seen young women falling hard when they walk in with wet shoes.
P. R.
Went the keel row very relaxing nice atomasphere friendly and good people who work there , I'd don't really say staff as it belittled people ,but great and yes another great starting off point .
M. B.
Sad that a few eating places have gone
We ate here a few years ago Was hoping for more places to choose from Had a drink in the pub ate near to The hotel we were staying in
R. T.
Good though small the Gate offers places to eat and things to do (if you like cinema and a casino) Good range of places to eat or at least it was before lockdown. Sadly seems that ZaZaBazaar has now closed permanently.
K. S.
Nice place, convenient parking below in the basement. Has a few eateries, bars, cinema, casino and arcades.
E. R.
Great center which has a large cineworld pizza hut and other pubs and restaurants.
C. T. V.
Decent night out here in the bars
N. H.
Love cineworld always go there to watch the new releases. Staff are helpful and polite
K. S.
Visited Eden in the Gate and Wow! The new rooms upstairs are amazing and exactly what Newcastle needs for a fantastic night out, food is awesome and staff will go the extra mile to make sure that you enjoy your time there. Great place for parties too, ask Alice Middleton for details.
No I'm not paid for this 😂
S. L.
Trendy and architecturally impressive with bars, restaurants, multiscreen cinema and casino all under one roof. The secure underground car park, accessible by lift, is expensive during the day but there's a flat rate £2.50 in the evening and it's free if you choose to eat at one of the restaurants then catch a movie, though the fact tickets to see a film are cheaper here than those at cinemas of comparable size outside of the city centre means it will ends up costing roughly the same even if you don't want to eat out (and will probably work out less expensive if you go with several people using the same vehicle). A couple of the bars stay open till the early hours, as does the casino, and if you want to fill in some time or entertain yourself there's a massive (11-a-side) table football game plus several table tennis tables, including an circular one! On Saturdays and Sundays it can get a little rowdy outside the front of the building but there's usually a Police presence and if you go by car you can avoid this area entirely. On other nights it's fairly quiet and as it has to be said the building lacks atmosphere without a crowd to fill the cathedral-like malls, despite the impressive lighting.
D. J.
This place was the best I've visited in Newcastle. Spacious. Great atmosphere. Loved it in here
F. Z.
All the best food..Cinema.. pub.. into one place!
C. F.
Nice place for food and drinks
G. W.
great place to visit. variety of food outlets and cineworld did not disappoint
T. S.
Nice place however after closing an account at aspersions due to being poorly they claim I have a gambling issue and won't let me open my account again I only play poker Wednesdays so dunno how that I have gambling issues maybe Saturdays once in a while again I think people have complained about my disabilities or religious views that's why I feel I can't come back funny how discrimination works yes I do also realise I can't join g casino as well but I closed both accounts in 2016 due to illness which are gone
C. L.
Great place for a quick bite to eat, cinema and casino onsite as well.
J. G.
What is essentially a pleasure complex. It has the feeling of grandeur mixed with bemusement. Externally the architecture is astonishing and visually it's a real compliment to Newcastle's Georgian streets, but once you get in, it feels like any old mall.
This is place is amazing though, primarily a food court spread across 3 levels, with a cinema at the back (which often changes ownership between larger cinema firms) and a Casino, plus there's free parking. There's a plethora of tastes to chose from including a Coast to Coast and a Pizza Hut and a TGI Fridays, so it's big on the Americana front.
L. B. A.
Good choice of Restaurants, Pub & Casino on the top floor the Cinema
l. t. R. J.
Cinema complex great.
L. W.
Large Leisure centre in the centre of Newcastle. Short walk from metro - Monument or Central. Cineworld 16 screen cinema. A casino and lots of places to eat. Usual chains. Bars. Large Debenhams opposite. I went to the cinema, comfortable seats. Clean and well decorated. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Enjoyable experience.
H. S. J. (.
Newcastle was a bit crazy. Worth the drive up and everyone seemed to be friendly enough. We had a great night and this location was worth the admin fee. Can't remember what time we finished but it was around 3am and the stag was really pissed.
Couldn't recommend Newcastle highly enough. If you have been then you need to go.
A.
Ĺots of bars to choose from in here. Really good atmosphere. Sometimes it can get a little rowdy. Would recommend you visit. There is also a casino upstairs. Excellent atmosphere there! Definitely recommend you go.
J. T.
Great variety of restaurants and the cinema is amazing. Tickets are not overpriced at all and the snacks are cheap. Would recommend to anyone who likes watching movies on big screens
S. R.
Large city centre complex of bars and restaurants of all kinds plus a casino open 24 hours a day and a multiplex cinema very busy and popular with young people adjacent to China town At weekend's can be particularly crowded Easy access to public transport and taxi rank
J. D.
A lovely place with a lot of nice restaurants.
L. G.
One of the best places to go for a meal, Zazabazaar being about the best places, £9.99 for all you can eat from their open meals, be they English, Indian, Greek, Italian, Chinese, with drinks paid for seperately. Cinema has a good few films at once, sweets bought on way in.
c. 1.
Lots to do and eat
T. A.
Great for a quick bite to eat. I wouldn't spend my night here as it's not to my tatse. But it does have a good variety of food. Which is really helpful if you're planning on going to the cinema and need a bite to eat first. The one things that stands out for me is the parking really easy to access and feels the most secure in newcastle, also is not expensive I have left my car for a good few hours and not paid more than £8 which I believe is very reasonable.
J. L.
great place loads to do.xx
j. b.
Grand choiceof alcohol bars & eating facilties of different cuisene. Also an up to date multi-screen cinema with Dolby sound & the latest reclining seats ( just recently finished refurbishment). Recommended
S. B.
Should be five stars but Covid has decimated this plays with what appears to be the closure of many of the establishments.....so sad
R. T.
Really trendy, upmarket and enjoyable place. Nice restaurants and bars. Really lovely food at all restaurants. Multiplex cinema here too. Highly recommended for a great night out.
A. A.
06/02/19
The place is really nice and full of options of places to eat and enjoy time with a loved one /friends however the only downer is the joker security guards there that try to stare you down and intimidate you. Silly . Other then that its all good . Check it out !
S. L.
A decent entertainment complex that has a cinema, casino and restaurants though many of them lack character and many are your bog standard chains. Some units are empty and have been inexplicably vacant for months which is a real shame seeing that this place has recently been refurbished.
That being said, it holds Newcastle's only multiplex cinema and is worth visiting when in Newcastle at least once.
P. H.
Nice place for a meal or a movie, it has an all you can eat restaurant and plenty other food place choices, has a cinema upstairs and is visibly policed in the evenings because its located in Newcastle City centre near many pubs and clubs and can be very busy.
J. A.
Perfect for food & drinks. Lots to offer.
C. H.
Has everything you need under one roof: restaurants, bars, a Wetherspoons, a cinema and a casino! It also hosts the vintage kilo sale. Had many great nights out here and I'm sure there will be many more!
R. T.
Great self-contained nightlife, gambling, and dining. On busy nights, certain areas can become busy with drunks (which staff don't deal with well), but you'll definitely have a good time here.
G. G.
A nice place to spend a weekend. It is well placed in the city center. The place had lots of popular eat outs - pizza hut, TGIF, zaza bazaar. The place had weather Spoon available as well. Cineworld and a casino is located on the top floor. The place has ample parking place. Tiger-Tiger is just next to the building. You can visit the place at any time. I would recommend the place anyday.
R. r. 1.
An area of central Newcastle upon Tyne combining night life and shopping. China town is a short walk from here and you’ll find many quality bars and Chinese restaurants there.
m.
Fantastic facilities, great resturants at great prices and the cinema is being done up(Lift is working great now). Pretty wheelchair user friendly. Lots to do on a budget here too
N. F.
A place to stop by in Newcastle to enjoy a meal and a movie ;)
D. K.
Notable restaurants, great entertainment choices with the arcade and cinema. Have not used parking here so can't provide comment, but easy walking and bus routes available.
L. O. E.
Always a nice place to be. Lots of good bar, restaurants and cinema. It's truly my favourite place to be anytime. Least I forget, they have club in there as well.
T. D.
Some nice restaurants, a cinema and a few cool games like giant Scrabble and ping pong. Do not go here if you want to stay clear from drunk geordies, it's like their honey, they all swarm there.
L. S.
Good mix of bars and restaurants. Cinema has just changed hands from empire to cineworld, the main reason I go to the gate is for the cinema. I think with the new restaurant area in Eldon Square the gate may be missing out on trade. Always very busy outside on an evening with revellers which can be a bit intimidating!
L. K.
A nice, modern bar-cinema complex with a few eateries such as Nandos, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, TGIs and Za Za Bazaar. There is also a Wetherspoons. The cinema has recently been refurbished to accommodate for its (I believe) 14+ screens - featuring panoramic screenings, 4DX and state-of-the-art projection & audio screens. The complex is very lively across a weekend due to the range of bars inside which are not designed for students. The first floor offers novelty giant games, such as Battleships and Scrabble for those with children. A ping pong table is also present, along with 2 table footballs - one of which is several metres long which is excellent for those in large groups! The downside is that this area is often overwhelmed with groups of teenagers which often use/stand around these facilities for hours at a time which makes it difficult to have the opportunity to use them. There is also a basement car park and toilets which are cleaned to a good standard.
R. L.
A new mall with all sorts of options from eateries, to clubs, and even a video game lounge. Open late they've got something for everyone. Can get a bit messy but so can the rest of the city.
P. S.
It's mint had a great weekend loved every mi ute of if x
J. P.
Be great if I was in my 20s
w. d.
Love the place. Eating from around the world many different types to choose, eat as much as you can. Plenty of parking around the area.. well worth a visit!!!
L. S.
We absolutely love The Gate. There is something for most people inside. Cinema, Casino, restaurants and bars it's a fabulous place to start a night out in Newcastle
K. F.
Not the sort if place I'd go for a night out. The eating franchises would not be my thing, and the bars would not be my cup of tea. The cinema would be the only attraction for me.
N. B.
It's starting to die unfortunately many of the places inside are shut down but there is still the cinema and casino going strong and there is a selection of food places and pubs but it's not what it used to be. It has enough variety still though
J. R.
Nice busy pub!
Ö. F. Ö.
It is not like the old days
a. a.
A nice shopping experience
G. W.
Nice bars food casino and more
A. H.
Decent selection of bars and restaurants. Good one stop shop for food, drinks and the cinema. Plenty of parking, but the spaces are very tight increasing the chances of a bump or scrape.
m.
Excellent place if u want to have a pint or something to eat. Reasonable prices in most establishments. Also save environment as there are security guards that work for the gate
d. t.
Very big shopping centre. 👍
S. T.
Cinema experience was very good, our 2nd visit for the 4dx experience.
E. B.
Good bars restaurants and cinema I would keep the kids away on a weekend night time as the bars get very busy with lots of really drunk people and you have to walk through them all to get to the cinema but it is really good most of the time and plenty of security
H. S.
A one in all place you have the best casino s the restraunt the theatres TGIF etc etc if you just want to stay in and enjoy the ambiance you could possibly spend 2-3 hours there
I. H.
A lovely building with a high quality cinema at the top of it
D. T.
Great indoor space with a pub, restaurants, casino and a cinema. Very well maintained and cleaned. Warm atmosphere and a great design.
S. P.
Very clean and modern. Excellent service from all the staff.
D. B.
Great, I've rated this 4 stars as I sadly have not been able to go inside and have a look at Social Distancing measures they have. Not because its closed! Because I've just not had the chance.
C. M.
A lot of choices under one roof. A very good venue to eat, drink and visit the cinema. Great for partys and an indoor meeting place for night outs.
G. W.
The Gate always feels like something's missing or a refurb is overdue. It's ok, but that's all it is. This is my last choice of places to go to the cinema or eat. Partially because I've gone in one too many afternoons with the place still smelling suspiciously of vomit, presumably from the night before.
It's a shame really because the cinema and some of he restaurants are quite good and a bit of work would make it a much better place.
S. P.
Lovely venue, went to Pizza Hut and later to one of the bars. All nice, quiet, clean, relaxing. Really enjoyed it. Lots of eateries to choose from.
M. C.
Lots of good shops
O. S. (.
The Gate contains a few restaurants, bars and clubs inside as well as the new Cineworld cinema. There a few good places such as Rub which is a great restaurant but overall the place has been overtaken by the new food places in Eldon Square which offer more variety and numbers of places to go. However, there's direct parking within The Gate which makes it more conveniant at least!
P. W.
Only just reopened I was just passing by
T. R. A.
It's a great shopping mall. Although, its not that large like intu eldon, but places like the cineworld, za za bazaar, gaming centres make me visit the gate very often.
M. B.
Amazing place! I come over to Newcastle twice a year! This is a must visit great restaurant places, cinema on the top floor and fantastic bars! Highly recommended visit!
P. F. M.
On the scruffy side now.
A. c.
This is a lovely place to go out with your family. There are food choices for everyone and even entertainment, which is in the cinema. At night you can really see the night life of Newcastle.
T. A.
Centre of Newcastle, choice of different food, cineworld is great, and if you go for something to eat, then go to cineworld. If you show cineworld your food receipt, they will validate your parking.
j.
You always know you can find something to eat/drink or do in the gate, bit of everything
R. M.
Movie on the morning and a Rump steak at The Keel Row Wetherspoons Bar on the evening.
Ordered online via Wetherspoons App all arrived with pint of carling 15 min later.
Steak was awesome just right grilled to perfection, cooked outside pink in the middle, not sure what the seasoning was but had the taste buds lit up like a fireworks display on the 5th of November.
Will definitely return to Newcastle to have the meal again.
A. M.
The gate is a large shopping centre in central Newcastle. There is a car park too which is incorporated into the building. I have only used Cineworld and Pizza Hut, both of which are good value chain retail outlets, as they are everywhere. Staff in both are helpful.
G. M.
A canny place to get pizza, the movies, some games, food (buffet), and drinks! The floor plan may be confusing for first-timers, but that's just a ripple on their wave of good points.
K. N.
Clean tidy well run
I. G. (.
I get the cinema and Casino idea, but the expensive pubs and rests I don't. There are so many other nice pubs and rests around the Gate, so a 3 🌟 rating is how much I give to the overall concept.
S. C.
Went to the cinema christmas eve and it was great. So easy to get to and use the facility's. The kids love it and so do we.
M. C. S.
Great selection of restaurants, pubs and clubs to choose from. Does get loud at night though at the weekend, so if you want a quiet one best of going to metrocentre
S. M.
Nice variety of food and drink places, big cinema upstairs and seating areas with over sized traditional games that’s free to use in the central area on each floor
R. “. A.
Nice place, I went to the pictures here nice but very expensive!
S. B.
Immaculately clean and disciplined regarding covid restrictions.
I. M.
We went on a weekday afternoon so it wasn't too busy. Relaxed atmosphere. Table games and giant table football are a great addition
A. O.
Love the new Arcade. Great experience for family outings
j. k.
Showing signs of age now. Not enough selection for bars and restaurants, many retail places unused. Table tennis and table football and some other games in the hallway for public use
N. S.
Always been a staple part of a night out in Newcastle if the Bigg Market isn't for you. Plenty of places to drink on the ground floor, nice restaurants on the first floor as well as the ever-friendly Aspers casino (probably because I'm always giving them my money..)
J. J. D.
It was a beautiful place with great food and drinks
M. 6.
Fantastic little bar. Popped in for a quick pint on a recent visit to Newcastle. Great selection of beers and lagers and bar staff were very friendly.
S. M.
A range of bars, restaurants and a cinema, child friendly before 6pm. Popular with stags hens and groups for nights out. Not for the conservative client.
R. M. (.
Excellent leisure complex. Various restaurants, pubs, cinema. ZaZa Bazaar well worth a visit, multi national eat all you can, and licenced too.
K. B.
No problem much there and cinema expensive
M. S.
Within the gate you have bars and restaurants. We had a drink in the weatherspoons pub then for a all you can eat meal. It seems to be a popular place and felt comfortable.
T. H.
Relatively new Cineworld in Newcastle City Centre. The wheelchair spaces in the screen we were in were at the front of the booth making for an uncomfortable view of the screen. Otherwise an excellent venue.
R. T.
Great building with lot in it. food restaurants, cinema, bar and clubs. You could easy start here from 5pm and end up leaving at around 3am happy.
G. B.
Good place for food and beers always busy at weekends cinema on the top floor great for families to go for a day or a night out
A. C.
Plenty of places to eat. Plenty of places to drink. A casino and cash machine. Good sports bar with the biggest screen in Newcastle. Good night life.
k. r.

J. W.
The Gate has a wide range of bars and restaurants. As well as entertainment for all containing a cinema and a casino. Great place to come on the weekend.
L. R.
Cinema, cafes and gaming places plus vintage clothes shops ok
J. W.
Good selection of food and a good cinema with lots of screens and 3d and 4d, the atmosphere mostly consists of nitrogen with a bit of oxygen
M. L.
Nisy and chaotic. However I am teetotal and do not like crowds of revellers. If you like drinking and revelling I am sure that it is great fun.
s. k.
If I was not on antibiotics I may of had a few drinks, as your coming down from the cinema its all very tempting
O. B.
Look out for your bus number...
S. J.
It's so calm here, lots of places to eat, the cinema is always adding new screens, and the games upstairs are a nice touch.
B. M.

C. J.
Modern leisure and social complex in the heart of Newcastle upon tyne.
It has bars, restaurants,a casino and a cinema on the top floor which has a new 4dx auditorium.
D. B.
Great place to park when visiting Newcastle. Perfectly situated near the shops and bars, plenty of places inside to eat and drink. TGI , Beyond Bar, Nando's, Wetherspoons, Cineworld , Players and ZaZa Bazaar to name a few.The website is thegatenewcastle.co.uk . There is also a new premier inn just a couple of minutes walk from the main entrance.
G. H.
Really good place to eat and drink, and the cinema is just amazing seen some really great movies there.
J. S.
Not a lot of personality to it now.
D. O.
Multiple businesses are located here.
J. B.
Currently had work going on but even this was carried out very quietly and still allowed for everything to remain open for business, The Gate is one of the best places in Newcastle for food or entertainment
L. T.
Good selection of restaurants and with cinema in too
C.
This place is in need of something new and fresh to get people in, a new bar, unique restraunt a few places in here have been in since day one and get a tad boring, needsd a fresh vibe.
A. R.
