Reviews of Anglia Square
T. P.
Whilst its looking its age and tired, Anglia Square offers a great range of shops to support the community, from exotic foods, vegan baking to charity shops and car sales. We especially love Random Buns of Kindness who open their doors for Bun Club once a month (but we dont talk about Bun Club)
M. M.
Very run down, quite an eye sore but handy if you aren't travelling into city. Parking is at the back 60p for 30 mins.
T. G.
Ive lived in and been up this way for over 15yrs now and can't help but think that this place is abit forgotten and needs a little love a little money put into it.
Some nice places have been updated for example the new Greg's is alot cleaner and there are also some really nice little small independent businesses and coffee shops.
I've only given it a 3 star rating as I haven't seen much improvement to the area it's a little rundown but if you can overlook that you may find a bargain or two.
s. g.
This place is amazing.
So many wonderful antique shops to have a browse around as well as unique and regular shops. Literally 10 minutes walk from Norwich Town centre.
L. M.
Love Anglia square. Food, pubs, Roy's of Wroxham and charity shops. There are a few antique dealers which makes for fascinating viewing.
M. W.
It was great the food the drink the crackheads arguing then making up really enjoyed it. It is a different side to norwich not everyone gets to see. Ps mori barber shop is great and very affordable x
k. r.
I love this place but i couldn't live in its ghostly, dilapidated shadow, without the aid of Prozac, various strong liquors, and copious quantities of Poundland chocolates.
For Anglia Square, despite its understated charms, has one of the most hedious streetscapes in the UK.
The film "Joker" could have used its environs as a backdrop to Gotham City, without having to go to the expense of building sets or budgeting to make it more awful than it already is.
Indeed it is so awful that it would be an idea to market Anglia Square as film set for a range of dystopian movies, It would bring much needed revenue and skills to this neglected part of Norwich.
The shopping centre itself is cool. The central square echoes in its design the cloisters of the medieval cathedral. All the shops offer very good value. Some of the charity shops could be more aptly described as "junk shops" as most of what they sell is unfortunately just junk.
The area is friendly and is kept reasonabley clean. Unlike in the centre of Norwich, there are no "Big Issue" sellers every 30 yards, aggressively pushing phoney greetings upon you. Or tragic young people, begging you to make a financial contribution to their drug dealers lavish lifestyle. Instead you can walk, shop and even chat to strangers with pleasure and ease.
For those new to Norwich, Anglia Square is not signposted. You can walk there from the centre in two ways:
1) Take your copy of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Make your way to the tiny medieval church of St Smythians, down Muggleston Way. Knock thrice and knock firmly. The door will open and in the nave you will see the great Plantagenet time-warp chest, enter the great chest and you will exit in the back of the Wand Shop, that's run by the kindly toad-faced lady of Anglica Square.
2) Or: make your way to St Andrews Brew House. Anglia Square is a simple and pleasant 10 minute stroll from there. Walk along St Georges Street, crossing the bridge; turn right at Cross Lane, then turn right at Golden Dog lane, in front you will see an attractive tiny alley of old houses, walk through, it will take you to Magdalene Street, turn left and you will see Anglia Square in front of you.
A. W.
Visited Anglia Square to obtain bits and pieces of shopping with him indoors and hound. Afterwards sat on seating with sandwich cake and coffee and unfortunately hound decided to have his share. Trying sharing with hungry husband and hound.
G. G.
Mixed food and household items shopping centre. Showing signs of wear these days. Main names: Poundland, B&Q, Iceland, Boots, Savers. Popular local community meeting place. Central glass covered piazza with bench seating.
C. R.
Such a run down place and looks very sad, in need of re-development but good range of bargain friendly shops.
D. M.
You're still able to shop in Anglia Square and make a whole day of it, prices at the moment are still reasonable for the moment even as the cost of living crisis is hammering 🔨 us at this time. Anglia Square will make you forget all that for a while at least Clothing, Local Butcher meat, Savers, Wilko, Banks are all down there, it's even warm enough to sit outside the local community pub to have a pint of beer and a packet of scampi if you like it.🍺
OR JUST HAVE A WALK AROUND BECAUSE THERE IS PLENTY OF SHOPS AND AREAS YOU CAN INVESTIGATE. +BIG CARPARK OUT BACK.🅿️🏧🚻♿🚼🚾🏁
M. M.
Great place to get all sorts of bit's and pieces.
N. B.
A few nice shops down here, QD, Iceland, savers, card shop and poundland not very buzzy or packed
E. D.
Honest shopping precinct, with some bargains to be had. You have a few charity shops, Iceland and Savers, Poundland and Roys. Sahara cafe is great , a chippy and an Independent supermarket in Roys, all you need.. Butchers, and fast food stalls etc. Parking round the back.
S. G.
Visit St Martin s donation station helping homeless In the area. Many items purchased with a donation...grab a bag and fill it... bargains galore. Friendly helpful staff.
A. T.
Varied shops and a few strange people reduced from 4 stars. Very convenient if you live locally though
P. S.
I still like this typical 60s edifice.
It has it's own character and is a bit run down, but still has just enough to make it worth a visit.
The adjoining streets offer more individual shops which are an attraction for many.
Oh this does need to be developed, but not to be a sterile wasteland full of as many flats as greedy developers can cram in.
This is an historical part of Norwich and has a chance to be that elusive phoenix rising back from the ashes
Damn that's almost poetic.
D. C.
Was a good afternoon out Gregg's have a lovely coffee ☕ and sausage roll ...
QD and Poundland some good offers
s. i.
A rustic, lay back way to shop, full of old world charm
R. G.
Anglia Square is in bad need of modernisation.
Fingers crossed it will happen.
Great range of shops.
A. H.
Lovely little square got lots of different stores so you can nearly anything
V. M.
Selection of shops, Boots, Greggs, Iceland, QD, excellent old school greengrocer, Poundland and card shops and also Ernie's eco shop. Great mix, good cafe in Sahara across the road.
p. e.
Awesome and lovely , usually crowded because of few cashiers at work
B. O.
All shops in one spot. I was able to get my furnitures while I was primarily there to buy ingredients for African dishes.
a. p.
A great square a few good shops everything you need, good charity shops to
L. A.
Great shops and a large Gregg's where you can sit and eat....
E. h.
This place needs investment but we love it in this household. Pete's is a great butcher, Rob does great fruit and veg and you can loads of bits from Ernies (with a guilt free conscience too)
L.
Anglia Square is home to many in Norwich and is full of such life and excitement. The posh streets, as well as posh people, gather to dine outside the finest cafe known as Greggs daily which is a lovely sight to see. The exquisite shops Anglia Square has to offer is astonishing, you are really spoilt for choice. One of the luxurious places I liked visiting was QD that featured a huge range of major discounts. I can't get enough of the Jaffa cake boxes- it's a lovely treat! This is an historical part of Norwich and has a chance to be that elusive phoenix rising back from the ashes. Will definitely be coming back regularly!
R. M.
This is super garage to take your car for repairs it s very reasonable in price. and very reliable and thorough will certainly use again if need to
R. L.
The redevelopment of this area needs to start!
It's got a Gregg's though, so at least you can get a sausage roll.
C. M.
Good value shops rather than the trendy parts of Norwich
S. T.
We're at Anglia Square for our shopping always early just out of preference
Shops nice and quiet and clean
Shelves nice and full
Great experience
t.
Literally so good because poundland and greggs but like the security kicked me and my friend out because they are like meanies
C. H.
Interesting place to visit. Great antique shops.
B. C.
Oh dear! It has seen better days but there's some cheap shops still there. Green grocers has local produce and good selection of products
A. M.
Could do with updating still some nice shops here tho
B. M.
Anglia square want too busy at the time we went
.managed to buy what we wanted without going into the city of Norwich very convenient.
T. H.
An old and dated shopping area with no real effort being made to make it feel welcoming
m. d.
Don't really know what to say about the place.
There are quite a good selection of shop's here.
But the place doesn't look very clean from the outside.
It is rather run down looking.
N. C.
A bit rough around the edges...but has basics you might need and a few good charity shops 👍
T. S.
A great place to get deals in Iceland, YMCA Greggs and QD Stores!
M. V.
Bit run down and needs modernising.other than that its ok.
A. M.
Was quite pleasant walking round but thought it was a waste of money putting the breaseblooks in the middle
C. J.
Pretty busy place, stopped for breakfast, the full English of course, and it was really nice.
J. W.
Personally, I like Anglia Square a lot and have done for many years. Good range of diverse businesses with relatively cheap parking. Such a shame to see it slowly fading into obscurity with an uncertain future being decided by committees and big business. Use it while you can, it's not going to be here for ever.
T. T.
Has everything needed for daily life for a household. There's butcher, QD, Poundland, Iceland. The Boots there seems to be understaffed all the time (the line is usually quite long). But…as the redevelopment start these shop may no longer exist here..
w. J.
Saw the add in the auto trader and drove over a 160 miles round trip to view the car
Very easy to find the address and car parking right next to the business but you have to pay to park. Show room is in the shopping centre itself and the service and owners are very friendly and helpful so iam very happy with my purchase you couldn't go wrong shopping with this business highly recommended
N. M.
Great for people watching! Few nice little charity shops! fantastic fully stocked greengrocer all local produce ! 👏 belting burger van! All you need in this little area !
T. S.
Good community shopping centre. Very handy.
S. C.
Very old amenities. Needs a revamp for sure....... that.... it's always postponed by the politics, year after year. I can count fourteen years at least. My Apart from that there's a good mix of shops, supermarkets and cafés. You can do a tattoo or your hair....even your nails.
You can buy a newspaper, gamble and get fish and chips!
B. -. x.
Loads of shops and some great places to eat
R. L.
It's fair to say this centre has seen better days. Earmarked for demolition in recent times yet somehow surviving all efforts to see it off it somehow continues to exist, if not thrive. Currently it houses a butchers, a cafe, a Gregg's, QD, Savers, Iceland, charity shops, discount shop and an independent computer games store (plus possibly others)......but doesn't have toilets! 🤯 If toilets are needed The Cafe on the Corner has one of my current favourites, it's like sitting on a little throne with its raised pedestal.
V. K.
Lovely place for a quick shopping experience. Lots of different shops all in the same place, great cafes, relaxed atmosphere and very enjoyable 😀
j. b.
Sutton toy shop helped sort some kids presents and god some mega bath bombs sets from handmade with love for a few members of the family this year
E. S.
I like Anglia Square, would like an alternative main shop instead of Iceland and a Library would be good.
F.
Shops good but now toilets closed not as good.
Need toilets to open again.
C. B.
Looking a little tired, but all the shops are very good, apart from Greg's not so good .
D. L.
Not the big square I remember as a child now it seems a busy little square that needs a bit of tlc but don't let that put you off if your looking to save money between all the stores you can get all you need for the house. 4/5 bargain shops so if this last year has hit you hard then get yourself to Anglia Square . There are little rides outside boots when it's safe for the little children to ride when your half way through a weekly/monthly shop . For years they've been threatening a revamp not 100% sure what's going on there due to disinterest " sorry ".
C. S.
It was an absolutely awful day. Wet and windy so the middle cover was handy but ineffective against the weather on the edges. Not festive at all and a bit shabby.
M. C.
It's OK, like most places there's a thinning out of the shops.
D. E.
OK.not too many people about easy to go around shops
L. M.
Many shops, quite busy. Shame about the pigeons.
R. S.
A very bizarre location. I hear that the location is scheduled for redevelopment, but they've been saying that for years. The area looks like it was designed in the seventies, and on entry has a very intimidating and sinister ambiance to it. It's open air, yet natural light doesn't seem to reach it. Very creepy indeed,
D. L.
The only reason it gets to 3 stars is its location (5mins walk to Norwich Cathedral, 10mins to the market and lanes). So, ignore Anglia Square and its awful eastern european Cold War architecture and instead make your way up Magdalen Street for a far more interesting shopping experience and then take in the cathedral and the all that the Norwich city centre offers.
S. M.
Such a diverse, friendly square about to slip away..The new build will destroy that atmosphere and there's no way to recreate that.
D. P.
Always slightly better than I remember.
W. C.
Bit run down but some quality charity shops.. amd a Gregg's which was lush! Piubdland always a winner!
p. r.
Plenty of good shops for lots of stuff
s. m.
Been visiting here since I was old enough to be aloud down the city by myself. The whole area isn't as busy and lively as it used to be, but there are still plenty of shops and businesses about to fill an afternoon. Plenty of local parking available, as wel as busses and taxis nearly.
P. W.
I visited to Iceland and savers. Not bad
B. E.
1970s shopping centre so. Going strong. Off Magdalena Street. Both places worth a visit when in Norwich. Good value shops. Covered area with benches in centre to rest.
A. L.
It's anglia Square still a good place to shop lots of memories but place looks old a tired definitely needs a redevelopment
Z. C.
At the moment because of COVID, most shops are closed. Only food shops open. We went to Iceland to get some shopping. Normally a busy part of Norwich. The ideas of the future of Anglia Square is a bit hazy. There's been plans etc but nothings been said in a while. Obviously COVID has slowed everything down. I wonder what will be opening when businesses are allowed.
E. M. V.
As someone that grew up in London Anglia square has always made me feel at home, don’t know if it’s the shops, the cafes or the people but honestly start at one end and walk to the other, the charity shops are amazing and such a good place if you live a bargain! Cafe Norwich is a weekly visit for us, they do the best food at such reasonable prices!
C. M. W.
Anglia Square appeals to fans of brutalist architecture and bargains.
It features a Poundland, a QD, a Greggs, and a selection of charity shops.
Also, Alan Partridge premiered his film here. Shortly afterwards, the cinema closed down.
M. C.
A wealth of shops, we called on a bank holiday and only a few were open, however it served our purpose and the shops visited were very well stocked and with helpful staff.
Uncrowded shopping, the reason for our call early and before the area became busy.
g. d.
Still great for value shopping after all these years . Don't knock it! Because you will save money!!
T. S.
My Winnipeg. Watch this film and that's how many Norwich folk feel about this city and this square in particular.
A. B.
I think it's a marvellous place the architecture is second to none and awe inspiring. The cathedral area should be demolished and redeveloped to resemble Anglia Square as a tribute to its magnificence. The place is where all the beautiful people of Norwich go, it's a mecca for the landed gentry of the area. I personally was offered to be "helped out" for a very reasonable 87p on one lucky visit by one of the patrons of this iconic area. SAVE THE SQUARE. X
F. M.
Not much change. Shops are nice but parts appear derelict due to lack of action by NCC.
I thoroughly recommend The Corner Cafe.
D. K.
Always a busy area for the locals of this area of Norwich, with many outlets such as Boots, Savers, QD, Greg's, Iceland, Roy's Poundland and a few other independent stores what ever store I have visited they are all friendly and helpful, its due for a big modernisation in the next few years you can only hope it doesn't take away the great atmosphere that you always find there.
P. G.
This is the old part of Norwich city but has various shops and an outdoor covered seating area and a couple of cafes.magdalen street the main road next to anglia square also has good shops and cafes a good bus service into the city and there are 3 car parks around the square.
C. B.
You want it anglia square most likely hasn’t got it, 4 stars for nostalgia but sadly this place is has seen its heyday. Hopefully it can be regenerated otherwise it’ll just end up being flattened and turned into 180k flats
C. S.
A short walk from the city centre, but well worth a visit, easier parking lots of charity shops many bargains to pick up not totally under cover but all shops have covered walkways.
M. F.
Whether you need a new heavy-knit jumper, some foreign fruit, a pre-owned sink drainer or some discount meat this is place to be. The social draw here is also strong. If you like to drink a can of special brew from a paper bag, ask passers-by for spare change, or play greensleeves out-of-tune on a moldy piccolo there's a urine-soaked bench here with your name on it. So, come on down to Anglia Square in your wolf fleece with your 2 wheeled tartan shopping trolley. There's a bargain for everyone 👍👍👍
S.
Shopping centre approx 15 to 20 minutes walk from Norwich city centre
Showing its age I guess but still good choice of shops
Poundland, savers, Iceland, QD, small branch of boots, shoezone
Plus quite a few charity shops as well
Two open air car parks very close by
And on main bus routes as well
C. W.
I thought it would be busier than it was. I got all the shopping i wanted. You also have a good choice of shops. I recommend anyone to go there and make there own mind up. 🌹
B. K.
Nice place... And different shops having nice and best deal... Good for charity as well..
D. “. d. e. f.
Has a lot of potential. Just needs some attention and could be a lovely shopping area. Currently a bit derelict.
I. M.
Very friendly butchers. The little one who works Wednesday is very handsome. Good selection of used cars also at Anglia square cars
E. S.
Lots of discount stores - QD, Savers, Iceland etc. Little fruit & veg shop to the left of Iceland which does great fresh produce. Ok if you're passing and need to get some essentials on the cheap.
S. B.
Met my sister down there before second lockdown starts, we only went in a few shops together. There are markings on the floor which is one way only. Seems the ground get cleaned regualy as when I arrived there was someone in a hi Vis mopping the floor. I'm so glad to see Anglia Square are following the covid-19 guidelines.
M. W.
Popped into Iceland, not a lot going on in Anglia Square shame really.
J. T.
Very, shall we say, 60s and 70s blunt architecture. It needs completely demolishing but at the same time, one will miss it when it does happen.
B. E.
It's a shopping complex with different stores and you can shop for varieties of items as well as food.
D. H.
I love Anglia Square but I have a soft spot for it, butchers, cafe, fruit and veg, charity shops, poundland and qd but a nice little wonder and I love the people.
N. I.
Great place if you are looking for all kind of little things for your HOME. You get all kind of things at Poundland. Fresh vegetables or fruits of Andy's Market. A small snack...you got that one as well. You can't find what you want at Poundland? No worries you got B-day cards just across the shop. Oh you need some other stuff or bedding ? No worries you got all of them at QD's you need a pharmacy? You got that one. You fancy a second hand shop? YEAP you got that one as well? Fish and chips? Yeses the best Fish and Chips in Norwich are just across the road at FISH 'n' CHIP Shop . You need the butchers? Peter's Family Butchers are right here. Cars? You got that one as well.
S. G.
Fair options with decent pricing.
Very friendly staff
R. G.
There's a varied amount of shops available but it is looking very tired & feels quite intimidating in various parts.
B. K.
Excellent place to go for day to day shopping, all shops staff very helpful and friendly. Mobility friendly if disabled like myself 👍
B. E.
Like most other shopping opportunities under covid restriction it is looking quite deserted. Several shops closed and others very quiet.
P. G.
Nice little square of shops. Parking nearby, not too expensive either. Not like city centre shopping but good for convenience.
S. J.
Difficult to give an up to date opinion as a lot of the shops are in lockdown. The open shops are QD Stores, Iceland, Gregg's, Boots chemist and the Pound Store.
J. N.
It's very rundown now needs updating
M. L. (.
Good section of shops
J. F.
Such a different place, though it is a little worn and tired it has so much of interest with lots of different food vendors
C. W.
It's OK and has a few stores to.poke around in but it dreadfully outdated wouldn't go alone after dark
D. S.
Nothing to say really Except it's a great place to shop saves going in to the city for lots of things
S. B.
It's not as square as you think
A. W.
All seating has been blocked off - maybe every other bench would be better as plenty of space between
l. p.
Bargain shopping area of Norwich a bit worse for wear nowadays but still you can find what ever you need in "the Square" or on Magdalen street
V. B.
There are good shops here but the square itself is so run down and in need of repair, also you get the wrong type of people hanging around this area that comes with a lot of theft in the shops.
D. B.
Terrible toilets closed so no where to pee. Lots of shops closed now still needs pulling down and rebuilding QD should move into the city center and Roy's too. Only two shops I use there
B. W.
Quiet shopping center seems to be a little neglected and forgotten but some good value shops
C. G.
One of my favourite places to have a rest while shopping, but on this visit it was windy and cold.
C. M.
Rin down area but some good shops if you look for them
t.
No better place on earth to do some people watching and make yourself feel better about your own life
G. A.
I don't understand why all the seating was cordoned off 12 months after the first wave of the pandemic. I can understand losing some for social distancing but all of them.........
M. K.
Few different shops great for low budget not always hugely busy
D. T.
Good to grab a few bargains if the shops are open. No queing as not many people about but easy parking an not over priced
M. B.
Anglia Square is a better place to shop! Only if I cannot find what I want I head into the city
R. W.
Lots of local shops, burger bars and everything you could possibly need.
P.
Always feel this area needs a makeover and rebuilding but it probably won't be done in my lifetime.
G. V.
In need of refurbishment but with nice local shops
A. P.
Good shops that are open but no toilets open anywhere in the area so had to rush home to use toilet
A. T.
Afraid Anglia Square is slowly dying. Cinema closed, empty shops. QD, Greggs, Roys, grocer, butcher still there.
A. S. H.
Many businesses under one roof here, very convenient.
M. C.
Not much going on for Anglia Square...
M. W.
A great place to visit if you like brutalist architecture. Enjoy it while it's still there!
N. K.
Parking is £1:20 for an hour. Good place to go for bargains & lots of places to eat on Magdalene road.
B. P.
You can get most things including a wide range of food and drink, healthcare and beauty products, greetings cards and the best fruit and vegetables at very affordable prices.
M. M.
Sadly rather tired area.
s. b.
Not bad for shopping . Easy parking . Bit run down but ok
D. T.
Definitely needs a refresh but there are some handy shops.
D. A.
Good variety of shops. Great car sales room. Easy parking usually. Worth a visit.
J. H.
The centre is a little tired but the shops are fine
W. A. L.
Good selection of shops, a lifeline for people living in this area especially around this time. Iceland and Savers have most of the things I need.
R. R.
Great little place assortment of nice shops
K. A.
Easy place to shop for most items you require
K. C.
variety of shops from boots to Iceland, not the best atmosphere but good if you need bits
M. S.
Good cheap shops however the surroundings are very old and needs to be modernised.
L. V.
Easy to get to, not too busy with parking (someone has tried to break into my car in the carpark, so not the safest area)
L.
Very run down, but heard there are big development plans to demolish and rebuild - definitely needs it!
M. S.
Bit run down but shops are nice
d. g.
It was busy, but thts 2 b expected, hav lived comin 2 Anglia square 4 ova 30 yrs eva since I was a baby
V. R.

J. H.
Only few shops left, quite and able to go in and out staff friendly
K. B.
All good in Anglia square Norwich Greggs, Boots QD, etc
B.
Roll on the revamp looking old
J. H.
It has plenty of cheap priced shops. But it does lack appeal and has a feeling of being run down.
C. W.
A brilliantly graphic oasis in a sea of everyday!
M. W.
A convenient group of shops. Frozen food. Chemist and a department store. Some classically bad architect from God knows when.
A. l. W.
Very quiet today due to weather .Went in boots for medication and they are very friendly and helpful
T. S.
Great part of Nowich to kill an hour or so.
J. W.
A good little shopping centre.
N. N.
Good shops, friendly burger bar under bridge..mandy n poppy are very nice
B. B.
It is an open air shopping mall. It is in desperate need of redevelopment and planning is being undertaken .
J. M.
So many diverse shops, local small shop owners, a must see if you come to Norwich shopping or a visit
D. B.
Pick up the bus from here to Farnham chocolate shop but also lovely antique shops along Magdalene Street
g. P.
Lots of shops all in one place, very handy for north side of city
A. M.
Good all round choice of shops! Something for everyone!
D. P.
Nice range of shops, easy parking and plenty of bus routes.
Y. D.
Wish you would hurry up and get it modern it's so dated
W. P.
Built in the 60's it now looks tired and in need of a revamp.
C. A.
Good variety of shops, but the Centre is looking a bit tired
M. B.
Nice place shame its going soon
M. W.
OK to look around to pass the time of day, but needs an uplift
L. G.
