Reviews of Harris Arcade
I've always liked this Arcade. It has great atmosphere. It's a shame that online retailers and the Oracle almost emptied out the place. It used to have everything. It still has a great music shop with loads of LPs and the best Comic Book Shop in Reading.
It's ok nothing amazing lots of business closed down.
For your information I have supported the business in there but I can only comment on what I see it's not that it's a negative comment.
And I'm not supporting the fact were still in a pandemic I wish all the businesses well and will continue to visit the shops in the arcade
Sadly a bit empty these days after the pandemic wrecked trade everywhere but If you want a good record shop, a comic shop and a Collectable Store. Then there's 3 shops in here for you.
Sad to see several units shut in the arcade but the excellent second hand record shop Music Box is still there with a great selection of vinyl and cds
It's a shame to see so many empty plots but Shave and Coaster still provide an amazing service and Pierre's Baguettes are still delicious!
If you are in Reading, you should visit this quirky Arcade. Full of interesting shops.
Nothing to shout about, not many shops here.
What's left of the buzzing arcade in years gone by is a cool selection of tattoo parlours, collectables, hair salons and many empty units; such a shame. Note to council: please drop the rent!
Great range of businesses..quirky and fun!
“Discount Vintage” is probably one of the only vintage clothing shops in Reading, and they’re the best I’ve been to! Small shop, but they get in the best stock. Lots of high quality brands in good condition, no random brands you’ve never heard of with a stain on the front. Proper cool people and happy with help with any question, also know they’re stuff about the clothes which is always a bonus 👌🏼
Worth a visit for that special gift for yourself or others.
A good range of shops & eateries of a diverse nature with something for everyone. This really sums up how Reading has developed in a prosperous & progressive way. Reading is the place to visit for shopping & all in all you can have a great day out here. Lots of people always seem to be visiting here & seem pretty happy about it. Whenever I visit by train lots of folk always seem to get off. A very pleasant place to go to for retail therapy !
Situated in the centre of town and conveniently hidden away amongst much of the typical high street retailers. This small but unique row of shops offers small business owners who are passionate about their hobbies. Definitely worth a walk through.
This small arcade is pretty cute. Has a few cool independent stores - highlights for me are Sound Machine record store and the comic shop opposite, but there are others yet to explore: second hand collectibles, vintage clothes etc.
Including the tattoo studio and craft beer/cheese shops this could easily be misconstrued as a hipsters paradise but in my experience doesn't feel like this at all.
Well worth an explore.
So many lovely shops gone. :-( The ones that are left are great, but as a whole the arcade is very bare.
Visit the Grumpy Goat, a very good selection of alcohol and some very fine cheese. Three different types if mead ( with a fan club the other side of Kintbury ). Also the marmalade porter is worth a try. In this weather the spiced mead makes a very welcome warm drink after a cold country walk. ( to warm it, measure from the vessel you are using to drink from. Warm gently in a saucepan and when it's to hot to put you finger in, it's ready to drink ).
Nice independent shops and cafes
Love that Reading still has this tiny place for small independent trading. You will find vintage boutiques, record shops, cafe's, cheese and ale shops, a traditional African clothing shop and a tattoo parlour to name a few. Hope this unique arcade can survive the test of time and stay an independent archade , standing out above the rest of the cloned shops that has become the majority of what Reading has to offer!
Visited the tobaccoist shop today in Harris Arcade and received a nice welcome once inside, shown a collection of hand rolling tobaccos plus allowed a smell test also.
Highly recommend as pricing is fair and friendly staff which are very knowledgeable.
A good place for shopping. You can find almost everything. Sundays sometimes is very busy
Lots of lovely little funky shops in here, particularly like crunch comics
Old fashioned style arcade with small shops filled with things you won't find anywhere else. Antique shops old Record LPs shops. Little treasure trove of what Reading used to be like. Not sure what's in Harris shopping Arcade now a days. Well worth a look in here next time your in Reading.
Nice little artisan cheese shop here which let me try a little bit of Stinking Bishop because I've always been curious as to whether I'd like it or not. I didn't like it but did end up buying some delicious garlic and nettle cheese instead.
Like many such places good in places and dingy in others.
Could do with a really good clean, better smell of polish than mustiness but I suspect low rents and empty units do not encourage footfall.
Charming these indoor markets. Love the one in Cardiff too!
Great second hand record shop in here, lovely craft beer and cheese shop, comic and antique shops, and even a Milner for your hat needs! Arcades like these are an endangered species and I would recommend a visit for a trip in the way back machine.
What a marvellous gem in the heart of Reading. With an award winning tattoo studio, a fantastic tobacconist and a truly unique vintage boutique, to mention but a few. Definitely worth a visit.
Lovely little hidden strip mall with amazing places. You can find from artisan beer in the Grumpy Goat to old and new vinyls. It is quite hidden so keep your eyes open!
I remember when the arcade was a majestic and grand affair but now is a mere shadow of its grand history BUT it is still there and functioning housing some of the most interesting establishments in Reading - people do not let this bit if readings heritage disappear!
Lovely set of interesting little shops including The Grumpy Goat that sells beer and cheeses. Milliner Adrienne Henry also has her shop in the Harris Arcade where she designs beautiful hand made hats. She also sells a wide range of ready to wear hats and runs millinery courses. There is currently a fascinating display of Steampunk hats in the window.
If independence is what you want, Harris Arcade has it. An eclectic mix of shops, all doing their own thing. Beer, cheese, shaving supplies, whiskey, cigars, tobacco, vinyl, musical instruments, collectables and memorabilia, and much more!
It's a really impressive shopping arcade, with good access for disabilities and lots of shops to choose from. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star is that it can get a little congested from people cutting through, and there are some shops that have work being done to them that ruins the asthetic.
Loved this upscale but quiet mall. Has some nice designers in here....Vivienne Westwood and Tea Baker. Cute little place for drinks and food. Would highly recommend a stop by.
Pipes, sweets, old cigarette cards, vinyl, hair cuts, hats and sandwiches in the smallest shops you've ever seen. Sheer heaven. The new Oracle Centre at Reading tried to capture the marvellous atmosphere and variety of the Harris Arcade but failed.
This is a lovely old place with a good variety of shops including one of the best tattoo parlors in Reading. It also has café's a tobacconist, antique shop and photographer's.
Went to top gun tattoo's as the main focus but ended up doing loads of things, really nice arcade equipped with hairdressers and cafes. Top gun tattoos are spot on and are a good laugh to be around
Useful as a walkthrough when it's raining.. but I really don't understand how these businesses stay afloat. They never have any customers! Except of course the tattoo shop.. but all the others?
A wonderful variety of shops including Mias cafe with a nice athmosphere a d excellent if waste line destroying sandwiches. The arcade is what more of our high streets should look like.
Great cafe, barbers and the best record store in the country. Try The Sound Machine if you haven't already.
It's good stuff
Harris Arcade in Reading has a lot of little shops worth taking a look, especially for geeks. There is a comic shop and an amazing little retro place that is full of old toys, comics, board games, etc.
The grumpy goat is great as they stock a lot of the lesser known brands available. The only reason this isn't a 5 is they need to stock one or two well known brands & varieties like Lyme Bay for mead.
A lovely little arcade close to Reading train station. Small with little independent quirky shops. Lovely to browse through and maybe have a coffee.
Independent shopping arcade. Historic feel and nice mix of all independent shops. Great off licence here, which stocks a v wide range of booze.
Love the Grumpy Goat cheese and beer shop. Great selection and they stock Estonian craft beer, which is difficult to find in the UK.
This is a lovely arcade with Reading's oldest Tobacconist and some awesome shops from gothic (including swords and masks) to hats, American sweets to Tattoos, or even Cafés to photography, and nail salons to vinyl!
Walked through it to get to a gig. Was fairly decent although the time I was visiting the stores were closed so I could not sample their quality. Im sure they are of a high quality standard.
Very busy garden centre with a great selection of plants and garden stuff. There is a good butcher here and the restaurant is pretty good for breakfast and pizza. The coffee is good.
Quirky little shopping arcade in Reading with some interesting shops. Sound Machine is great for vinyl records. Good cafe in the arcade too.
Nice gem. Has lots of antique and vintage stores with vinyl record shops. A few tattoo parlour. Oh and a craft beer shop...Basically hister-friendly walk 😂
Quirky little arcade full of interesting, independent shops. Whether you are after vintage clothing, speciality cheese, antiques or a bespoke hat, there's something for everyone here.
From custom clothes to designer Gon, this place is an Aladdin's cave.
Amazing selection of old curiosity shops and various other useful places. Great place, Great history.
Nice little shops ranging from cafés, nail bar, old sweet shop, arts and crafts and vintage shops there is also an estate agent called Samuel James properties which is a family run business, they are very helpful and friendly
increasingly the finest alley of independent stores in Reading. Go here for great independent vintage clothing and records, and shop for craft beers and cheese.
Small shops with interesting items for collectors, clothes/hats and foodstuff like cheeses & liquor, cafes at both ends. A good change from the malls and big stores.
Quaint original arcade with 2 sandwich cafes a tobacconist a tattoo parlour antiques and other specialist shops not found on the high street part of old Reading worth a visit before progress reaches it
Brilliant local trader arcade - craft beer shop, tobacconist, tattoo parlour, independent music shop, baguette bar, barbers and comic shop
Reading's hidden gem. Some fantastic small local businesses from comic books to cheese to beer and tattoos. I wish I'd explored here sooner.
Great Barbers in there
Good special beers, a good hair saloon and a very good tattoo artist over there
A small selection of small qwerky shops, however, walking through it you feel more likely to be mugged than enjoy a bit of shopping.
An authentic community spirit with lots of unique independent shops. One of the most cultured and interesting places in Reading.
A gem hidden away in Reading. Lovely and eclectic shops and love the old side street arcades of yore. Worth a visit.
Lovely little arcade normally quiet but wonderful, eclectic shops.
Great little arcade with non-high street shops. Always find great little bargains down here
Some nice shops here especially the vinyl record shop. Nice polite staff in all the shops
Small, but I'm sure you can find there something interested, look it, cafe shop, wine shop, barbers, tattoo shop, antique shop and more...
The tobacconist there is fantastic. The other shops just ok. It closes too early and Sundays it's always closed
It's an interesting little shopping arcade with little independent shops. The shops look quite good.
Here you'll find a broad selection of small, independent shops: stock up on your craft beer, buy a new pipe, flick through some old comic books, get a tattoo, and still have a choice of outlets for lunch!
Beautiful place for shopping good customer service too
A small arcade of shops consisting of independent retailers. A mixture of food and fashion hats, quality cigars. et cetera.
Lovely collection of quirky and unusual shops.
Great place to explore and see what's on offer.
Has interesting shops for such a town where you have so many chain stores
hidden away close to the station. it's a must to walk through this mall and do some window shopping :) the coffee place just outside serves really good coffee.

Lots of lovely independent shops

Fantastic mix of eclectic, small and quirky shops. What's not to like
Nice old fashion little shopping centre. Very interesting shops (handmade hats, African patterned clothes, Vinyl disks etc.)
Quirky alley full of great off beat shops for more interesting products like vinyl, cheeses, ale, whisky.
Nice area
Independent stores offering a welcome relief from homogenous high street retail.
Great shopping arcade, unfortunately didn't spend a lot of time there, I was in a rush.
Used to love the record shop in here. Not sure if its still there. Bit of a hidden gem that never was
Nice selection of different shops. And can't go wrong with the baguette shop.
Whilst paling in comparison to its counterparts in larger cities, Reading Arcades certainly stand out for its selection of rare shops and memorabilia merchants.
Lovely arcade with small independent shops such as Arcade Hatters, Continent Clothing, a tattoo shop, and Coster and Shave.
Unique cosy selection of shops, cafe, toys and collectibles oh and best man haircuts
Some great little shops but people don't use this arcade enough that some shops do not.survivw
Good cluster of interesting shops, always worth a visit
Quirky shopping arcade with some fun independent shops. Worth a visit to see to get away from the usual chains.
Some really great ecclectic shops. Like arcades used to be and still should be. 😀
Quirky shops trade here including tattoo parlour and second hand record shop (vinyl!)
Still worth a visit for the smaller independent shops but not what it once was!
Minimal version of what it was in the 70s and 80s, but still a nice collection of unusual shops.
Okay, could be better with more shops - went to a cheese and beer shop that was so overpriced. Reading needs more artisan shops to compete here.
Great range of shops. clean. great staff. Highly recommend
It's ok most major shops are there. Harlequin in Watford is much better
