Reviews of Shirley shopping district
I won't catch 4 bus from here as it was full it's much easier to go right into town then you can guarantee a seat on the bus back !!
Different shops than Southampton city centre so a nice alternative, although too many barbers/hairdressers.
Good variety of shops but not very clean area
Useful shopping area for most every day items. No frills
Outdoor seating area, Market during certain days selling meat, fish and clothes etc. A good couple of charity shops and other shops plus the Windsor Arms and Salisbury Arms round the corner
I love this part of Southampton it's like the rest. People love to help. Many thanks to Shirley Baptist Church. I loved my food bank item. Wednesday and Thursday 10 am till 3 pm.
Great place to get your daily shopping done
Everything you need is 1 high street, would recommend Jim Rolf fruit & veg, fairly priced and great quality, with a lovely lady serving.
Good shopping nice choice of coffee shops
Me and the missus love coming here for a day out. Firstly it's a trip into Sainsbury's to get a big bottle of dry cider each and some snouts, then a short stroll to Gasniers to get some keys cut, then back to our sleeping bags outside the Library to finish our cider and have a nap whilst we wait for our keys to be cut. Sometimes we wake up with more money than we arrived with.. Well worth the trip!
Friendly shops helpful staff and lots of goodies to choose from. Well worth a visit 🥰
Good around place to get a variety of things .great coffee shops a nd restaurants .make it magic good place for bedding plants fireworks crafts and balloons everything for parties
Good selection of shops and restaurants.
Ideal for getting what you need, without the hassle of going to town. Shirley is a wide variety of shops, cafes and pubs. Free parking 🅿 in car parks and a certain time on most surrounding roads. Plenty of buses also run from here too.
Nearly every thing you may need or looking for in one long shopping street. As most shopping centres close down Shirley just keeps bouncing back with so much to see. This busy street never seems to sleep and before Covid - 19 was and still is the location to shop between supermarkets and small food retail shops with a major bus lane connecting you to the City Centre/ train station or to the General Hospital.
Not too crowded, pleasant experience
Shirley shopping precinct is great there's a wide selection of shops and cafés and I got everything I wanted.
Sainsburys with argos, post office, a few takeaways and charity shops. Nice little square where there's a weekly market on Wednesdays. Good little area and always see the locals. 4 stars only because there tends to be a lot of drinkers about on the benches
Lots of shops in the area, however it could do with some funding to make the surrounding area nicer and more welcoming.
Great store, but watch your parking time. £50 parking charge if you go over 2 hours. Number plate recognition.
Lots of shops, disabled access for the shops too, great places for breakfast and a dinner and plenty of shopping stores around the area, on a Thursday there is a market... Check out the meat market there... Good lord!! Large amount for a small price!! 5*
Lively shopping area. Reasonable selection of chain and independent stops at the lower end of the market! Town like feel. If you can't be bothered to go right into the city then a good place to stop
Lots of coffee shops and hairdressers. Exotic greengrocers, charity shops and supermarkets, but it a lot else.
Good range of shops
Shirley Shopping, Is Great! Handy, and Close to getting my Weekly Shop Done. I Go To All the Shops, At One time or another. Its Brilliant! All the Shops are Great! Helpful, and Kind, people who work in them, I would Feel Lost. Without Having Shirley Precinct, and Surrounding Shops. Thank you so much.
Don't be snooty here. Have an open mind. The people are brilliant. Don't offer the lady beggar a kebab though....
Great for a quick shop, lots of variety of shops and pubs and a sainsburys aswell which importantly has public toilet facilities
I've always liked this highstreet. It's got a great mix of shops and cafes' to suit all tastes and a large Sainsburys too. Parking is free for the first two hours and there are many buses that serve the High Street.
It has plenty of shops. Shame that the locksmiths has gone. Totally understandable, as there seems to be a Timpson's everywhere now.
Been living at a couple of homes close to Shirley rd and high st. Since 1983.
I hardly need to go elsewhere for shopping.
I like the cosmopolitan nature of the place with many Eastern European shops and cafes as well as Asian restaurants. Not to mention some (but not all) pubs in the area.
Easy to get into town as well.
I love Shirley, it's got all your shopping needs, unless you want big brand stuff, but West Quay is only a 40 min walk or 5 mins bus ride. Lots of free parking.
It's ok so many shops good bargains in the poundshop, adds would be great in Shirley as Sainsbury's is expensive.
Depends what you're looking for when you go here. This is a secondary shopping centre, not the main city shopping area, so there are only local high St stores and markets. The area isn't clean, often rife with the great unwashed and littered with Jehovahs witnesses trying to save your soul. There is plentiful parking, excellent bus links across the wider city and a very pleasant mid size sainsburys. For local trips when you'd rather not venture into city centre it's fine. There is an abundance of take away choices and the great British cafe, but don't be expecting high end dining, you ain't getting it around here.
A great place for cheap shopping. 2 Pound world shops, a Wilko, a Savers plus a host of charity shops. The new Lidl is very popular.
Shirley High Street has everything anyone needs. Not stylish but well managed Sainsbury's and Lidl supermarkets, a proper grocers and butcher, and most of the high street chain stores you would expect.
For food shopping it out scores the City Centre, but not Portswood.
In short, a good place for weekly, family shoping.
Yes I like Shirley a load of charity shops it's amazing what you pick up
Always come here as I am local but I do not like being followed by the short lady security guard as it just makes me leave.
Should be able to do your shopping in peace without having anyone following you.
Shirley is full of people who beg in the street
Good quality shopping area plenty of parking, disabled parking in the main precinct car park. There are no public toilets but Sainsburys have toilets inuse at opening times with disabled access and baby changing room. Wilkinsons, New look and my Favourite shop Atelier Needlecraft in church Street.
Shop like shop, pharmacy like pharmacy, but good service, security lady in Sainsbury very suspicious....she was looking at me like I already stole half a shop. I think smile would not suppose to kill her..other shops, well, Iceland, Pappa Johns, Bonmarche, who knows what else, but overall yes it is ok.
Good precincts and high street with a range of high street names and good assortment of one off outlets. Plenty of eating/coffee and restaurant outlets and generally well managed and stocked charity sector.
Good place to work on your agility. Lots of druggies, pigeons and freaks to dodge whilst collecting nectar points at sainsburys. Being an actual bee and collecting actual nectar would be more savoury.
Although limited with regards to the range of shops, takeaways and charity shops, the public library, a large Sainsbury's and a friendly public house are close by. The old problem of pigeon poo everywhere has been almost eliminated with a bylaw equating feeding the birds with littering, inspired.
Constitutes the commencement of the Shirley High Street shopping area which extends into the City Centre.
Fair selection of shops , caters for all I guess
Everything you need shops banks takeaways library post office. Few beggars hanging around outside sainsbury need to get a job in there and sit on a till instead of the floor outside they get enough benefits to support them they should manage their finances better we all make do
I had a good shopping experience. Not too busy and most people were being thoughtful and caring towards others.
Love shirley.....it was dead not all that long ago. But now the foreigners have moved in and sorted the place out. I do lots of shopping here. I get the best haircut at RAZOR for a tenner.
Not for everyone (BREXITEERS) but for people like me who love to meet people no matter where your from it's a great place. Make sure you haggle a bargain COZ YOU WILL GET IT...FANTASTIC.
It's okay if you haven't much time.. A few good shops but mostly there are charity shops and to many betting shops.. too many coffee shops or good shops . No where to buy male good clothes as no mens shops apart from peacocks but having three sons they wouldn't be seen dead in peacock clothes. Shirley use to be a lovely place but now it's run down it has to many beggars and not nice people who hang around
. No public toilets apart from Sainsbury's.. has a very friendly post office in Shirley precinct.. to many take away shops.. Shirley is not a nice place now...
Some new shops open.Others have closed. Wiki is a good shop lots of offers, good vegetable shop, lovely fresh meat butchers. Two car parks behind Pound Land.
Shirley high street is mini bazaar. From grocery to eatry to clothing...
Vapor shops and pharmacy. It got all kind of shops.
Being very near to the street I prefer going here rather then to the city.
Good alternative to Soton city centre
Shirley high street has a lot of different shops from supermarket to charity shops, butcher's, greengrocers . Ethnic shops, empty shops, pubs and cafes. Parking is a problem unless you use the supermarket car park.
Lovely place to get your shopping done all in one place.
Post office , Sainsbury, photo shop , library and plent of others.
Grew up around here Shirley has all the usual shops plus lots of charity shops and some quirky places too. Also not as busy as the city centre.
lovely place to go shopping and to have a cuppa hungry diner has most lovely staff. recommend the pie man and bakery on market days which is Thursday xx
Shirley has great shops cafes.food clothes cards indoor market andmarket every thursday in the precinct.banks and cashpoints garages and bingo and not forgetting great pubs a great place to shop.
Small range of local shops. No public toilets but sainsburys has loos. Thursday market is very basic. Plenty of parking.
I use Shirley pretty often, got some great shops, recently I've used the card shops, sainsburys, new look, Wilkinsons, and will be using many more shops in the near future
Shirley is my favourite part of Southampton, Southampton City Centre has pretty much the same shops as any other city, Shirley has more independent shops and charity shops, you're more likely to something bespoke in Shirley than Southampton City centre.
Full of life and shops all around. And today there was a nice surprise, an open market. Maybe they do it every Thursday. Definitely recommend.
Easy access to parking lots of charity shops but also a mix of other stores butchers greengrocers and cafes.Nice pleasent high street.
So much here. Variety of supermarkets, Turkish, Polish etc and lots of other shops
Shirley used to look run down but with the new CEX and Costa next door they're starting to get that place more trendy and up to date, Mc Donalds has been refurbished offering 24 hour service as well, they've still got more work getting it looking trendy, but it's finally getting there.
Good for some shops but shirley is rough thro * a dirty looking place
Fair variety. Plenty of quaint places to eat, and some charity shops that you'll never know what you might find in them.
The precinct itself is ok and there is an Iceland store and a Wilko store not far away. However Shirley itself seems mainly to consist of charity shops and fast food outlets these days.
Good shops, be better when we amusements re open
Loads of shops, very convenient. However avoid after 9PM there is lots of homeless and dodgy people lurking around.
Like many other places. Not as good as it used to be. Looking a little bit run down, homeless people in the centre. Many, many second hand shops through the high street.
Basic district with Sainsbury, banks, charity shops, pound land etc.
Not the nicest of places in the evening, pubs in the area and plenty of beggers.
Good for big shopping and some meal 🙂
Over all a nice little town all the basics cafes restaurants and most major shops with parking 2 hrs free parking, i wouldn't drive through here at rush hour though as it can be horrible to get out or in
Like being on a street from the mid 80's, loads of varied independant small outlets. Admittidley it is a little rough around the edges as are the cleontel, but it is how a high street should be.
I went to the local library in Shirley to use the computer. A very good service if you can't afford to pay for WIFI for yourself.
Its conveniently situated situated to most bus routes and has a Saintsburys supermarket with an Iceland store just across the road and various other shops and a market on Thursdays.
Needs more shops to add variety but pretty much everything you need here plus theres never a dull moment when the mutants are out.
Mixture of shops and nice place to people watch but always room for improvement could do with a bit of cleaning here and there and but a bustling street.
Excellent -Sainsbury's, library with helpful, friendly staff, Gasniers for bags and purses. You name it Shirley's got most of it.
You can do your shopping there. Absolutely fine, no issues. Go get your groceries!
Great choice of shops. Busy and bustling shopping centre. Lots of Polish shops which gives the area a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Love all the charity shops. A good place to shop for puzzles. Much cheaper than elsewhere
Only thing missing is a bakery shop
Good place if you are open minded and looking for something out of the box. I love the mixture of the little independent shops and bigger chains as well.
Too many begging people nasty smells but very nice Bible bashers
Brilliant place for people watching. Best at lunchtime when all the mutants are out to visit the cafes.
Its a busy shopping centre with a good range of shops. Easily accessed by public transport. Car parking not so easy.
Nice place to shop with great stores like Sainsburys, argos, cex and card factory along with nice eating places like subway, greggs, and a lovely cafe called amore.
Find all you want there fruit vegetables shop very good butchers very good price lots of good shopping no need to go eney where else
Cool...
it's ok there is a good amount of shops there just a lot of certain types of shops i don't really use.
Usaly crack heads there. Once hear them shouting why don't you punch your mum in the face sounded like a reasonable discussion
Used the Argos in store to collect items. Good safe distancing in place
Its good local place for shopping. Large car parking on sainsbury's.
Always best on a Thursday morning. Thursday is market day. The range of Wolf Fleeces is immense.
Pretty nice place to shop but traffic lights and pelican crossings make traffic horrendous better to use back roads and not main high street to get to location
Great shop
Quick n local to me
Prices reasonable
Main point for all buses into the city centre.
Always worth a visit, maybe too many charity shops though.
It's got everything you need and more, all staffed by helpful people !
Sainsbury's, pdsa, Papa John's Iceland and a local chemist. Lovely place to shop.
Great if your a fan of charity shop's,coffee shops and Barbers.
Nothing intresting around it just a meeting area really.
You can find most shops in Shirley.
The Sainsbury's does not carry the full product range.
Not a bad area but too many beggers from the local halfway house.
Bookies, charity shop, newsagents. Rinse repeat. Stinks of skunk, is full of 'character' and is improving in some ways. Mutant mile lol.
Regularly visit good ample parking try the hungry diner hot food cooked to order
An ok selection of shops, what more could you want?
Sainsburys is one of many well known high street stores fee Parking
Decent prices but self checkout tills aren't always working
Ok shopping area. Quite a lot of drunks and hustlers hang about in the area but they seem to be mostly harmless.
Because it's very convenient for shopping and getting most of what you want
Fantastic as always xx ♥️
A lively place especially on a Thursday market day always something going on.
Going downhill fast sadly.
There was a time when it was enjoyable to go to Shirley.
It's so vibrant all different cultures are in Shirley It's good
Too many charity shops and only one place to buy men's clothing so not really an ideal place to shop.
Got all I neaded in sainsbury, short wait at till, very good.
Good place with several shops to cover most requirements.
Good selection of shops and Charity shops, looks very run down and lots of pot smoking chavs around
Lovely little high street with a wide variety of shops. Something for everyone
I love shopping for clothes and having a nice cup of coffee from Costa it makes my day
I really liked it, it had a big shopping list and it had everything i went to buy
Don't stop shopping Debenhams is great and we have good shops in Southampton
Good alround shopping centre saves me the trip to the town centre
Full of coffee and charity shops. Still, better than venturing into town on a match day.
Nice place to spend a few hours
Good variety and easy accessible High Street shops
Good range of shops along the Shirley high street.
Not enough shops other than for 'world' food. No good shoe shops or children's places that's for sure
Just saw these in Sainsburys, great way to cut down on waste this Christmas
Would given 5 star but thanks for the fake homeless theifs have aways watch ur back
Everything you need on one high street. A couple of free car parks but check the meters first.
Good local shops, has most of what you want.
Stopped to go to newsagents bought a mag very specialised off top shelf
Mainly charity shops.. nothing to write home about. Few coffee houses and 1 supermarket + iceland.. few takeaways. Bit dirty n dismal
Not a lot of shops nowadays... good for a stroll and small shopping.
Like the diversity of shops. Huge choice of coffee shops.
Not too bad too many homeless around here
Nice place to wonder round. Lots of cafes and charity shops.
Lots of parking post office and sainsbury's apart from that nothing else really
Ok
Great place to do as shopping and eating if strapped for time.
Always busy don't matter what time of day always people coming and going. Thursdays market day
The only thing that's unbearable are the people asking for any spare change. Same faces all the time.
Popped in Sainsburys for a few things. Easy and quick access.
You can get most things here and prices are reasonable but the environment is being neglected.
Same as a normal shopping precinct, begets, shops of all discriptions, Bars, takeaways, restaurants and more beggers.
Friendly service, reasonable prices and a great range of products
