Reviews of York Minster
J. K.
An absolutely amazing experience. Incredible staff. Area is kept incredibly well. Walking throughout the structure feels surreal. Regardless of your religious background, you will find this visit to be incredibly rewarding. One can easily spend an entire day here. But even 90 minutes will provide a wealth of views. Ornate architecture and some of the best stained glass in the world. The size of the interior is overwhelming.
B. S.
Stunning to see. We were lucky that our group was permitted to tour York Minster alone, while the choir was warming up for a BBC special. They sounded heavenly and it really set the scene for our group as our guide gave us a wonderful tour.
York is very walkable, with plenty of stores and cafes. Take time to walk the city walls near the Minster, as there are some awesome views of the Minster. Clifford's Tower is also within walking distance and worth a visit.
C. B.
We came here whilst visiting the city for the day and so glad we did. It’s a stunning building and absolutely beautiful inside. You can do a tower tour but we didn’t do that this time round. The crypt was interesting. Wonderful place to sit and reflect. Very holy, peaceful building. I very much enjoyed it. I thought £12.50 each was a fair price and more then happy to pay it because it goes towards keeping this wonderful building looked after. The ticket also is valid for a year so it’s worth it for that too.

Absolutely exquisite 😍😍 The workmanship! The craft! The detail. The light. The atmosphere. A must visit if anywhere near York! Don't forget to walk up along the boundary wall for a different view. Of the city and the Church. And an absolute MUST, at least for the experience, (bonus/reward is the view) is climbing up the winding stairway of the towers. Not for the faint-hearted or claustrophobic sufferers tho. Stairway and stairs extremely narrow and steep. All 275 steps!! But it's so worth the effort!

What a breathtaking building....inside and out!
I love York and its abundance of History and shops.
All the years we've been going to York and never actually went to have a look at York Minster....until today. We're so glad we did and wondered why we'd left it so long, the exhibits and sights are really amazing, the Roman exhibit and the Crypt were exceptional. So much more than what we thought.
Well worth the money.

A league of its own. Very nice inside. The tower is worth the extra £6 but make sure you do a warm up before you set off. Lovely place for views and general interest of historic buildings
J. J.
Had a great time at the York Minster. The staff are friendly and helpful. They give you information about the church if you ask them. The crypt of St Williams is beautiful and serene. The whole church is just stunning. 😍 Do check out their astronomical clock, their eastern window. The stained glass art is gorgeous. 😍 Definitely recommend and will go again.

It’s my first time in York city and I came across this beautiful place called York Minster. The structure is magnificent, gigantic and absolutely beautiful. I really had an amazing time in the building. I went up the tower to have a view of the city and I am happy I did. The memories will linger forever. I also joined the noon time mass and took the holy communion. I lit a candle to pray for my late dad as well. You have to pay to go in and you pay extra to go up the tower. There are toilets when you need to ease yourself. You may also go to view the structure, you don’t have to be religious to go there.

Didn’t have the time to go inside on this visit, but highly recommended you do if you get the chance, it’s stunning inside!! There is a beautiful garden attached that you can walk through - you wouldn’t know you were smack bang in the middle of a city in there! Great place to sit and chill for a little while. I love the gargoyles on the cathedral, they always fascinate me!
R. B.
Such an amazing experience. Gorgeous array of artifacts from the Roman flooring, colourful stained glass windows, and amazing view from the top of the Minster. Also an informative tour guide added to our enjoyment.
Z.
A beautiful town with a lot of culture and history. Good transport links where the train station is right next to the heart of town area. Amazing architectural buildings to see and admire. Plenty of places to eat and a lot of independent shops which is a rarity these days.
w. s.
The cathedral is beautiful. You will need some time to fully explore it. Lovely art installation. Huge amounts of historical information. Guides really helpful. Book in advance as you can skip the queue.
K.
Just breath taking to look at, really amazing views of the minster. If you are visiting York and you like taking pictures of places or buildings then this is a must visit. You can pay to go inside and see more of the stuff going on inside but even just walking round the building which is a nice walk with breathtaking scenery of the minster.
U. S.
Incredible, surreal place. They have kept it in great condition and is definitely worth visiting if you are a fan of historical landmarks and architecture. The undercroft has some fantastic display pieces and bits for children to learn and play with the mini activities.
Really enjoyed my visit and took some great photos.
D. E.
Amazing cathedral with a long and impressive history. A "must see". Queue to get in was short. Staff very helpful. The Dean's gardens were also very special; quiet, peaceful and well maintained
G. M. P.
Beautiful! Gothic Cathedral. Visit it! If you can, climb 275 steps to the Central Tower. Closer to the sky.
Wonderful landscape. Charming images
D. H.
Beautiful cathedral in the centre of York City and is a must to see if visiting. The renovations since the 1984 fire are fantastic and exceptional. The "bosses" on the ceiling are extraordinary and well worth taking binoculars to view them up close. Take a walk around the wall of York and view the Minster from a different angle it is majestic. You enter on the left hand side of the Cathedral not the main door. It is really atmospheric if the choir are singing
M. M.
One of the most spectacular cathedrals I have ever seen. The stain glass windows are incredible. The height of the Cathedral ceilings is truly remarkable. (And to think this was built in the 14th century.) The overall size is incredible from both the inside and out. The wood work is amazing as well... so intricate.
The staff is exceptionally helpful to boot. I would absolutely come again. It was well worth the drive from Manchester or even up from London if you have the time.
D. B.
Beautiful cathedral steeped in history. If you sit outside on Tuesdays 7.30pm to 9pm you can listen to the bell ringers practicing. Lots of scaffolding on the outside at present but scaffolding tours are available. Place where you can see the new stonework being prepared also interesting.
S. Y.
Honestly couldn't find better words to describe. It is just stunning!! Probably one of the best, most beautiful church in UK. We easily spent 2 hours in it to feel the atmosphere and appreciate the interior intricate design. The choir was rehearsing when we were there. They brought me an incredible feeling. Their voice was soooo beautiful and made the church so sacred to me. Make sure you don't miss the underground museum where they tell the ancient story about York Minster. We were so lucky to witness a wedding inside the church - it was absolutely a moving moment. You can book ticket online so you don't have to queue at the entrance or you can buy the ticket with their staff members. Fab customer service. A place worthy of going with family and friends!
H. R.
An amazing and beautiful historic building. Really enjoyed our visit and if you are fit and healthy and good in confined spaces the tower challenge is worth the effort for the views.
It is a very relaxing, calming and soothing place to be , even if you not of the faith.
Your entry fee allows you to revisit for a year.
L. B.
Visited today, we went in about 2.30 it was pretty busy and I would say if you're going at that time book in advance then you can go straight in without queuing. For the basic visit I paid £12.50, if you want to do the other tours you have to pay extra. The standard ticket is great for a first visit and you can hold on to it for a year to visit again. Beautiful inside, incredibly peaceful even with so many people in. You can easily spend a few hours there if you take your time to look around properly. Will definitely be returning later in the year for the tower tour.
J.
Visited York Minister and was thoroughly impressed!!! If you want a challenge I suggest you try the Tower challenge it's well worth the climb when you see the view!! Warning ⚠️ this is not for the faint hearted!!
Staff were very friendly and informative to. Such a good visit!!!
C. C.
A must visit when in York. Staff & volunteers very helpful & knowledgable. The ticket lasts a year so you can visit as many times as you wish & isn’t that expensive. You can book a time slot to climb to the top of the tower, however this is not included in the standard ticket price. The climb is up a spiralling staircase, where in parts it is very narrow & uneven.
The stained glass windows are impressive & if you are lucky and the sun shines through they are even more impressive. If you have children they have activities for them to do to try and engage them.
B. P.
I have been to many of the world's great church's and this one definitely deserves its place among them! Quite amazing the feats of man. I didn't get to go inside this time around but will definitely return soon and explore it properly. Truly awe inspiring for all people. History never gets old!
A. P.
Wow! What a spectacular building! We were a bit apprehensive to buy tickets just because we weren't sure what we can see but wow are we glad that we did. We planned for the visit to take 20 minutes tops and were quite surprised when we realised we had stayed there for at least 2 hours. It's really hard to explain the feeling of being inside, you have to experience it but if I had to describe it in one word it would be "Grand". It's absolutely fantastic and you barely know what to look at next.
S. D.
Incredible building, stunning architecture and well worth the entry fee.
You can return for the next year free, just keep your receipt.
The tower walk is excellent as long as you are fit and don't mind a very enclosed spiral staircase.
So much to see and so much information as you walk around. Large number of staff all around the Minster who are very knowledgeable and happy to spend time with you providing in great detail all you could ever want to know.
British history at its best.
Their is a gift shop and toilets within the Minster.
There are a few steps to enter the Minster although we did see a number of wheelchair available once you are inside.
A. K.
Tickets to be bought online, Must visit Cathedral. If there isn’t much queue, they would let you go before your time slot as well.
It has history carved & crafted. The structure & architecture is absolutely cameramen/ photographer’s delight.
During Christmas there is tiny ‘Winter Village’ set up, with few gift shops & eateries.
L. H.
A must do if your in York.
The place is amazing, it has so many stain glass windows which are just worth sitting and looking. There is a museum in the cathedral and a crypt. Loads to see and just a wonder to walk round. The detail and craftsmanship is every where to see
I took my five year old, they had a little explorer pack, full of things to do. Binoculars, magnifyine glass, penciled drawing pad and some other activities. Follow the instructions for some fun or just use the binoculars to look at the glass pictures.
There was a tour up to the top but its age restricted.
S. W.
Always amazed by how beautifully detailed it is inside and out. So much to explore. The little explorer backpacks are great for helping the kids (& adults) to discover & learn more. Free entry with york card but booking a time slot is required. Gift shop & toilets
P. H.
An amazing historical site, costs £12.50 to get in but we'll worth it, as a tour of the cathedral is included in that cost. A very beautiful building, stunning stained glass dating back as early as the 12th century. A must see if you're visiting York
K. B.
I only saw the outside largely due to limited time, but I did walk around the outside and it looked spectacular. Also, the height of buildings in York means you can see this cathedral from lots of areas which can help you navigate your way around.
J. H.
Definitely a must visit if you are in York. The tower climb and free guided tour are highly recommended.
Really loved the little nuggets our guide shared with us, especially the anachronistic bottle feeding and the grotesque carvings which were in stark contrast to an otherwise austere chapter house
M. M. C.
Yes, once I'm here I don't want to go anywhere.
My favourite Cathedral So far.
Stunning.
I had the opportunity to visit the York Minster for the second time now and again yes I certainly can say that once again I felt that glorious energy around me. Soon I just put my feet on the door I feel that immense welcome. I feel that my entire life has been blessed and I'm grateful to receive that energy as if were huge to me.
It is a great feeling to walk around appreciating every cabin and imagining who was sitting there back thousands of years ago.
And yet, yes I love to stand up by Constantine the Great. It is an amazing feeling.
A. M.
A magnificent building. Huge and impressive. Besides just looking at the amazing carvings, art, stained glass, there's also the crypt and an underground museum where to you can see the ancient Roman fort the cathedral was built on.
H. D.
Always a beautiful place to visit. We were lucky enough to see a wedding I’m here and the organ, choir and bells were just amazing. Especially the organ playing hymns that we had at our wedding. Spectacular!
J. D.
What an amazing place. It is so huge and light. We had a free tour of the Minster and the tour guide was very entertaining. It is very easy to lose yourself for a few hours.
A. F.
Amazing city. There’s so much to see. If you’re planning to see most places, I would suggest a York pass (not sure if it’s called that). It lets u go inside all the tourist places for a much lesser price instead of paying for each. Just so expensive to see everything but definitely worth it. You need more than a day to really see the wonder of this city
G. N.
Lovely and cool on a very hot day! Guided tours the best if you want all the fascinating stories/history. Lots of restoration work being undertaken but it doesn’t detract from the visit!
S. P.
Visiting a 900 year old cathedral with so much history n preservation. Too good. Spent almost 2hrs learning the history n exploring the cathedral. Little pricy but worth the visit. Buy tickets in advance
L. S.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED Absolutely outstanding and the absolute heart and soul of York. I’ve felt privileged to stay at the Belfry House and every morning being woken by the bells. I’ve visited in the summer, winter, during rain storms and glorious sunshine and whatever the weather, York Minster stood proudly and dominated the surroundings. If you have opportunity, do visit and particularly when a service is on. We have repeatedly been for the last 10 years (with the exception of lockdown) for New Year and to hear the choir practising, listen to the service and soak in the surroundings, building and history will stay with me forever. York Minster is superior to churches/cathedrals I’ve ever visited before. If brave enough and I did do it once, do the walk up to the top, the views are stunning and admittedly, somebody who is afraid of heights, it was worth it!
S. L.
Simply stunning building. Lots of information posted about to find out the history and the undercroft was a pleasant surprise.
Totally accessible by wheelchair and the staff were great.
Highly recommend for a few hours of beauty.
R. A.
Loved visiting this historical location! So much history throughout. Came out with a few souvenirs. I did the Tower Challenge 3 days ago. I was initially nervous because I hate heights. There were a few points where I had moments of panic but I pushed through it, when I got to the crosswalk it didn't help my fear but the pictures were lovely, the stairs were steep but once I made it to the top I felt really proud of myself. I went into it thinking going up was gonna be the worst but I found coming down was horrible more. I accomplished it and overcame my fear but I doubt ill be doing it again any time soon! In the end I'm glad I did it because I have incredible photos from the top to look back at!
R. S.
We had a great visit here. The staff/volunteers were very friendly and helpful and happily answered all my questions.
The architecture is just incredible and the ceiling bosses are amazing. The stained glass is quite breath taking.
You currently do need to book in advance for entry but it was a simple and easy thing to do
M. R.
I love this place! It is so beautiful and has a enchanted feel to it. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. The tower challenge is a must if you can - the views half way up and at the top are incredible!
D. C.
York Minster, a wonderful sculpture with an amazing architecture. No wonder it took 250 years to build this marvelous place. Every inch of York city gives you an historical vibes. A must visit place and highly recommended to visit York Minster.
B.
Absolutely stunning architecture. Beautiful building and warm and friendly staff. Would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely be going back in the summer.
K. B.
Beautiful peaceful place, to ensure visitors have space, time slots are allocated but you aren't rushed round. Spent 2 hours admiring the place
Architecture and history of the place well worth a visit,
Choir were practicing during visit, emotional!
M. F.
If you don't visit the Minster in York then.... Why are you in York? 😂. Be sure to go into the lower level as it's quite interesting. Pay the extra fee and go up the tower for the views (but only if you really feel physically up to it)
R. C.
Gorgeous church and not super busy. Take The Hidden Chapter House tour if you can. Super interesting and takes you places most never see!
M. B.
It is the must see place in York. It would take about 2 hours at least to cover York minster in full. The tower could be visited for a fee of £6 per person and the tickets are issued at the minster. Tower is approximately 275 steps high and gives a panoramic view of York.
S. E.
Stunning place, currently having some external conservation work done however still looks incredible and from certain angles you can still get a decent picture.
You can walk all the way around the Minster and to one side is a lovely garden you can relax in which when we visited had ice creams for sale.
We did not go inside as I don't think the kids would have appreciated it but maybe next time...
C. S.
Must visit, so peaceful inside and it feels out of world. Beautiful inside and out. Its £12.50 per adult for ticket, you will need atleast 1hour and half for a quick tour. In dept guided tour i guess atleast 2 and half hour.
v. r.
A very ancient place in heart of city. Its build in a way that all the streets leads to this place. The entry price is reasonable and have options of free guided tours describing the history and significance. The tower challenge is a hype though because you have to climb 275 steep stairs which end in a caged rooftop. It would have been a great place without cage but I guess its done for security.
J. C.
Spectacular medieval Gothic Cathedral..largest in Northern Europe with half Britain’s medieval stained glass. Climb the tower! See the crypt of St William of York! This cathedral stands out among Europes best.
C.
The walk up the tower is an unforgettable experience. Not for the faint hearted though 😉 and of course the Cathedral itself is simply breathtaking and one of the best examples of grand gothic architecture anywhere in the world.
Z. R.
An amazing experience! Definitely would recommend everyone visiting York to spend time at this historic location. There is so much history here, and the sight is one to behold. I would definitely visit this again just to enjoy it's significance!
Z. S.
I joined the tour guided by Sue and Paul to the Mason’s loft and the loft of the chapter house. It is very astonishing to see the original frame works of the chapter house. Many thanks to Sue and Paul
D.
What a great piece of history. Grandiose structure, carefully detailed interior. One of York's main tourist attraction.
C. K. A.
This is a must go when in York. You can easily spend a couple of hours here going through the different sections. If you are lucky, you will get to hear the choir sing too :)
P. S.
A truly amazing place that is made to come al8ve through history, with a guided tour.
The guides are so knowledgeable, and obviously take great delight in unlocking the place's secrets.
Well worth a visit.
D. C.
Beautiful inside and out. No pics inside, but worth a tour! Went to evensong and was in awe of the workmanship. Live organ music and wonderful choir.
R. S.
Absolutely stunning piece of history!
We booked in advance on the website which I would advise as you can just walk in instead of queuing which was at a decent size.
Grab a little map/leaflet on your right as you go through as this has a bit of info for each section.
We didn't visit the tower Purley for lack of time as we spent nearly 2 hours in the minster and the roman museum underneath which I highly recommend going down to see (it's not extra)
The history of this place is amazing, make sure you read as much as you can as you go around
h. s.
Amazing place. A Must see on visit to York. Good to go to on a rainy day. Free introductory tours. Don't mind paying as costs a fortune to run and preserve
S. L.
The best cathedral church I have visited. And it’s children friendly as well with a free activity pack for kids at the entrance. We have missed the organ performance due to short of time. Will plan carefully next time when come back to York.
A. C.
Had an amazing and in-depth tour last week! Tickets can be reused for a whole year so it’s well worth the cost if you live in the area or plan on traveling back to York
K.
Lovely place to visit on our trip to York! Booking made easy online and plenty slots available. The minster is breathtaking inside and lots of interesting information about its history.
J. B.
An amazing place to visit and a great experience! The tours are very interesting and informative. Just a beautiful atmosphere!
D. C.
Amazing experience. Hundreds of years of absolute beautiful architecture.
Allow a couple of hours, to be awestruck at the interior, and the vast space. There's plenty to look at. With wall plaques, memorials, and what I presume are crypts / internal burials of precious archbishops and people of importance.
The Minster is a beautiful experience that you'd be mad to miss.
B. G.
A beautiful working church. Visited with my sister. We thought the price of £14 was a bit expensive considering we didn't have to pay an entry fee at Selby Abbey when we visited, but understood the running cost is extremely expensive. Very interesting reading about the history of the Minster.
N. T.
Beautiful historic building. If planning on entering make sure to book in advance as it's mandatory to do so. Absolutely stunning
T. L.
The tour was closed during the Queen's State Funeral, so unfortunately I didn't have the chance to see the inside. But the exterior is stunning enough
R. G.
At £12 for entrance, it is one of the priciest cathedrals that I've ever visited. That being said, there is quite a lot to see, and one could spend several hours looking at the various things within the cathedral and around the immediate surrounding area. The entrance fee is mostly trying to contribute to the ongoing conservation work, with quite a lot dedicated to maintaining the impressive stained glass work. It is of course a must, when in York. Also, the tickets are valid for a year!
s. T.
Those who loves history and gothic buildings definitely love this York Minster…
Wonderful sculptures…
Best place for family..
H. D.
Absolutely stunning inside.... surreal!! Little bit pricey to get in, but worth it! Really enjoyed it!
s.
We pre-booked the york minster the surrounding were beautiful to look at especially the glass work. There was alot to look at and find information about it. Me and my partner then booked to walk up the tower which was 275 and asked to read health and saftey before going up. If I can do it anyone can climb up. When got up to the top the view was spectacular worth seeing and xan spend as long as you want up there.
P. W.
When people tell you that you 'simply have to visit' York Minster and when you actually do, you can see why! This magnificent, majestic, and absolutly stunning work of architectural art stands over everything in York. When you walk in through the main entrance you are walking into hundreds of years of history. This history comes alive when you join a tour and the volunteer guides that expertly tell you all the minsters main history, and it really makes you think of what horrors and wonderful things have happened in the Minster. Our guide was Trevor and he was fantastic. He never failed on dates or battles and his knowledge was endless. He took us through the entire ground floor and then advised us to explore the underground crypts and the original foundations etc. They themselves were thought prevoking and were really enjoyable. So yes, after our visit I totally agree with the masses.. "You simply HAVE to visit York Minster"
F. W.
Beautiful cathedral and much to see.
Highly recommend going on the stained glass tour. Not only is it free but the guide imparted so much knowledge on stained glass throughout the medieval ages, and how it was made and used. The minster has examples of glass from all centuries from the late 1000s, which is very unsual for English cathedrals due to the Reformation.
The undercroft museum was also fascinating - I wasn't expecting as much down there as there was. It had many medieval artefacts down there, including the York Gospels on display!
D. Z.
Beautiful! Went up to the tower and the 275 steps were worth it because the view is amazing! Also loved the undercroft museum.
B. A.
Amazing, once in a lifetime and a must do. £12.50 entry and if you keep your ticket you can go in again as many times as you want for the year!
L. S.
Beautiful old building, be aware, ALL the tourists flock here, mostly on the weekend. Maybe a mid-week visit if you can, definitely worth it 👌🏻 x
A. H.
Stunning piece of history, the building was undergoing some renovation works, scaffolding around the back end, but didn't take away from the amazing architecture.
C. S. P.
I love a good minster or cathedral, been to many. York minster actually has a rich history and I recommend a visit. Beautiful place.
I. M.
This is truly an awe inspiring building. I wasn't ready for just how large it was. It's beautiful inside and out with lots of things to see. Allow a lot of time as their is a lot to see.
Y. G.
My god what a place to visit, literally goosebumps all the time looking at ancient history like that is an blissful experience, students get to visit for free with valid id and tickets, honestly was in love with the architecture and history. Things were so fresh to look as if you are still living at that place.
K. F.
Climbed the 275 steps to see the views from the central tower. We took the guided tour which was fantastic. Best experience in York.
R. R.
Lovely staff who are very helpful. Advisable to check times and book tickets ahead if you want to climb the tower as the tours are scheduled.
W. R.
Fantastic place to visit - so much more to see there than I expected - you can easily spend an hour and a half or more inside
C. B.
Stunning! Such a beautiful place. Enterance fee is worth it and the ticket last a year so you can revisit anytime of you are more local.
h. o.
The Chi-Rho , Constantine the Great and the Battle of the Milvian Bridge not forgetting the little old lady that was my guide yet much tougher intelligent and humorous than myself . What's not to like this place of worship oozes history and the resilience of human kind .
It seems to me every day I live everything I experience is trying to destroy my faith but the more they try the more I believe in God . I spent a long time feeling sorry for myself yet the older I get the less I want and the less I see wealths worth .
Tostig Godwinson is said to be buried here having died at Stamford Bridge with Harold Hardrada . His brother Harold Godwinson is said to be buried at Waltham Abbey having been killed at Hastings . Death can not be avoided however important you are .
A statue of Elizabeth 11 is currently being installed at the front of yhe Cathedral , God bless her . The Heart of Yorkshire is represented in one of the windows , long may the union last .
I see myself as British I love Scotland , Wales Ireland and England I was born in Dagenham . It breaks my heart when I read the news and see some of the horrendous incidents occurring daily . I hope Constantine is watching over us .
Please let the hammer fall please destroy those trying to ruin society and please look after and care for this building .
Jemma and Jonathan of Doncaster are cool I hope you are well
k. s.
Absolutely stunning gothic church. The architecture is simply amazing and York Minster is very prominent in the beautiful city of York. We took a tour and the guide was amazing. Her father was also a volunteer and you could tell how passionate she was about her faith + place of worship. Incredible history and dedication as the Minster has been restored several times. The stained glass is particularly stunning along with the stories they tell. A very inspiring visit and a big thank you to the volunteers who are called to serve.
A. H.
Stunning centrepiece to York. Beat the lengthy queue by booking tickets online whilst stood outside the minster. I'm not religious, but you don't have to be to appreciate the architecture and iconography. Paid extra for the tower climb, not for the feint of heart as the steps are very narrow and seem endless when you're climbing, but it's worth it for the panoramic views of the area... Just a shame they have to cage the top of it in.
K. A.
One the best 2 hours in visiting a substantial old church minster. The walk up the tower is well with the effort at 275 steps up and then back down. Great views from the top. A must do and see.
m. c.
Stunning building, the architecture is amazing and awe inspiring. One way system in place and advising to wear masks especially for the crypt and museum due to being more confined spaces. Pre booked tickets are necessary, managed to get in pretty quickly with this system too. Anyone visiting York, I would recommend a visit to the Minster.
L. D.
Truly wonderful building. Loved the young explorers back pack which kept my ten year old happy.
Well worth a visit
D. G.
A very interesting church with lots of history. The stained glass art are beautiful.
T. S.
Sceptical initially about the price for admittance but well worth it! Besides the amazing and beautiful cathedral itself, the York Minster has a great exposition about its history and the Roman and Norman constructions at the site that were there before.

Spectacular place to visit, obviously conveniently located in the middle of York city centre.
A great example of medieval Gothic architecture, completed in 1472, although some parts were restored in the 1800s after a fire. Its the 2nd largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe so there is plenty to see - the main nave with vaulted ceilings; the altar section/choir behind a rood screen; the large circular Chapter House and an interesting crypt. There is also a chance to go up one of the towers on an escorted tour.
There are also some interesting marble sculptures by Grinling Gibbons who usually worked in wood.
The one slight downside for me was the entry fee of £12.50 which seemed quite high, although I guess a building that size takes a lot of looking after..
m. d.
Had a brilliant experience payed for by my beautiful daughter ❤️ a worth while place to visit with so much history well worth it not dissapointed at all
L. F.
Absolutely stunning building, work going on to restore some of the stain Glass windows but no restrictions in place, very informative and very helpful staff, well worth the admission price.
L. B.
A fascinating building with an even more fascinating exhibition underground showing the history of the site. It's been the home of the Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Normans and more, and you can the artifacts as well as the former structures.
On ground level, the architecture is fascinating, as is the level of detail which has gone into the stained glass windows. It's the centrepiece of the city with good reason.
C. B.
Such an iconic cathedral, right in the middle of the city. Exquisite architecture!
There is a small Christmas market next to it, too
R. C.
A truly stunning cathedral with spectacular architecture, remarkable stained glass windows and many interesting features and information inside.
A. L.
Quite an awe inspiring place with an interesting history. This is likely going to be more interesting to older children and adults. It took us about an hour or so to walk round, look at things etc. The staff all seemed friendly and approachable, happy to help with questions etc. Definitely worth a visit while your in York.
R.
£12.50 each, honestly such an amazing place. There's so many reviews on York minster, I'll just show the photos I've taken. I put a photo on of what alot seem to have missed. And that's the Knights clock. I should of taken a video of them when they move. But it's definitely something I'll record on my next journey 😊👍
J. F.
You get to learn more about the history of York Minster with either a York Pass or a single ticket of £12. But to be on top of the cathedral and see above the city, you have to pay an extra £3 for the experience.
M.
Not a religious person but this place is full of history and worth the entry for that alone. The tallest building in York and worth a look inside. Why wouldn't you?
T. S.
Fantastic place to visit to see how the day's of old once were, excellent architecture and interesting exhibitions to see
M. R.
Amazing building a lot bigger when up close only issue is its £18 per adult to go in and go up the tower
M. B.
Extremely beautiful cathedral! The climb to the tower is quite demanding but the view is absolutely worth it! I definitely recommend seeing the inside to anyone visiting York
X. L.
Stunning venue for corporate events. Great to raise money for the continued restoration of the windows .
A. M.
Beautiful cathedral and so interesting. Don't miss the climb to the top, but be aware the steps are rather narrow in sections.
Well worth a visit.
P. H.
Another must do or see attraction and undoubtedly worthwhile. Nowadays a visit needs to be booked in advance. However there is loads of helpers at the entrance and they point you to a QR code or a phone number and after accessing either option you're accessing this wondrous cathedral in 5m. The whole area inside or out pervades tranquility and takes you back in time
K. G.
Very good experience, incredible place to visit. The tower challenge is also worth the money.
C. C.
Very impressive architecture.
Didn't like the fact that even they said you have to book your tower admission in the same day, the option was available 2 days after, so I had to drop the tower visit.
T. L.
Absolutely astonishing, i fall in love this city, all beautiful view, enjoy walking around
K. O.
Didn’t have time to go inside the York Minster but What a lovely monument, well maintained
W. L.
Must visit if you're in York. Beautiful Chapter House marvel at the medevial craftsmanship of the magnificent ceiling. Make sure you visit the crypt, oldest section of the Minister. Patron Saint of York, tomb of St. William and the famous Doomstone.
A. F.
Great building and architecture and amazing history. Worth a visit an tour of this amazing monument in York.
D. B.
Absolutely stunning. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Compares to St Pauls in size. Less inside than St Pauls, but I somehow enjoyed it more for this reason!
R. M.
Beautiful cathedral with very high quality children's activities and tour. All the family enjoyed it
S. J. (. T.
Beautiful historical church that took 200 years to build. Just amazing and must visit.
k. t.
York minister, full of history and character at the heart of the city. Be sure to explore and climb the many steps up to the roof! A popular spot for happy Graduation photos too.
M. T.
York Minster is a very famous and ancient church in UK. It's located in the North of England 🇬🇧. There were many famous films made from this Church 👍👍👍.
This is the first time I come to visit here. I am very pleased to see the very nice views inside the Church. I am very proud of to be enjoying the great architecture

Very interesting part of history on this location! Would recommend to everyone who is in the area to go and visit York Minster.
L.
Lovely historic town, plenty of good shops and views nice park
G. L.
This Miiiiiiinster was quite charming. Albeit a bit of a wind tunnel. There is some great architecture to be found here and was nice to see the stone masons making their progress on the renovations which have been scaffolded for bloody ages. Keep an eye out for the fresher looking stones which show this restoration, apparently she was a pretty big job.
D. M.
It's spectacular, but we didn't visit the interior because tickets need to be purchased
S. B.
The Minster is gorgeous inside and outside. It's visible from almost everywhere in York especially when walking the walls.
D. B.
Wonderful architecture with a fascinating history. Book in advance & if your fit book for the tower, it's only 275 steps, but amazing views.
D. b.
We really enjoyed going here. The history of this place is a must their is lots to see, they use a one way system that works really well is keeping you moving and not getting to meny people all clumped up. The place takes an hour or so if you want to take it all in which is what I would do and if you ask the staff that are dotted about they will happily talk to you about the part your in which gives you a real insight into it's history. Well done to the team that run it as it was a lovely experience and you could tell that it had be well thought through on the running side of things.
C. D.
A truly beautiful church inside and out. So peaceful, a really lovely place to visit and to take in.
A. W.
A wonderful place, well worth the money. Pre-booking is a must (July 2021) otherwise you won't gain entry. A one way system is in place and it works very well. There is a queue to get into the crypt, so if this is something you want to see, be prepared to wait. We waited around 15 minutes, however you can miss this. Unfortunately we wasn't aware that the treasury wasn't open and it is currently closed off. The museum was really very interesting which took up the majority of time we were there.
We're not religious, but we love history, this was a perfect place to take in 100's of years of history in and around York.
J. M.
Brilliant and beautiful place to visit we especially enjoyed the rooftop tour!
S. W.
York, Shambles, Harry Potter, The Minster, Castle walls walk, a fabulous city, steeped in history.
J. W.
Cafe located next to Minster. Lovely place to have a drink (coffee, beers, Pimms) and sandwich. They also have ice cream. Perfect spot away from crowds and traffic.
D. M.
I will definitely have to visit again because I missed the tower tour. The building itself is awe inspiring. Stunning architecture and amazing stained glass windows. The tour of the inside of the building is fantastic, I could spend hours in there. To take it all in you would really need to go more than once. Amazing.
C. F.
Beautiful Cathedral and definitely worth paying for a ticket to go inside. It’s such a magnificent building, full of beautifully detailed craftsmanship and steeped in history. I would give yourself at least an hour to fully enjoy your visit.
If you have a head for heights and are reasonably fit, it’s also worth paying to climb the tower too.
L. F.
What a wonderful place to visit. I sensed the awesome presence of God in this amazing place. Just sitting and reflecting that thousands and thousands of people down the centuries had worshipped and prayed to God in that building blew my mind. Our ticket lasts a year and we will most certainly be visiting York Minster again.
I. J.
How can you not be impressed by this building. 250 years in the making, there is so much to see, you need to stop often and observe. When you realise how much it takes to preserve this structure the entrance price is well worth it. I also did the tower climb. DON'T do it if you're not fit, suffer from vertigo, claustrophobia or dizziness. There are 275 steps up a narrow winding staircase but there's a hell of a view!!! We are sure the website didn't mention it but they were running free 1hr guided tours every half-an hour and that was very helpful (thank you Barry). Plan for at least 3 hours to do all of these options.
G. T.
Definitely a must if you’re visiting York! We quite often have a walk around a cathedral just to appreciate the architecture and scale of them, but I must say it’s usually free - so I was a little shocked to find it was £24 for the both of us to walk around - plus another £5 each to climb the tower, but it was fully booked so we couldn’t. I’ve actually been up before around 30 years ago so not such a big deal.
I’d still recommend a visit even though it costs, and I guess at least your money is going to the costs of maintaining such a building.
D. F.
Beautiful Cathedral. The arquitectura is amazing. The Cathedral dominates the city of York.
n. j.
Beautiful place with great Architecture. Situated right in the city centre
K. s.
The entry fee may look experience but it is much worth than that. The church is not just for decorations, but it is so touching the paper folded crane orizuru are the symbol for praying and the caring for the NHS members of the groups. Besides, I am so touched for the common prayer for the homeless people and peace by the minister at the stage. I am not sure for the prayer schedule but I hope this can be kept because it transforms every tourist to the people on pilgrimage.
The church building is suitable for everyone, but it is better for children who can respect The toilet located inside is clean. There are some stairs at the front door, I think it is okay for other entry if you contact them. For going down confined area, please be reminded that mask is needed for protection of self and everyone.
The tickets are better pre-booked before because the number of people entry is limited. The tickets are valid for another booking if you want to come again. If you want to study the window glass, it is a good benefit for coming more times.
There is a beautiful garden open next to the church in summer time. It does not need ticket. Ice cream bus sometimes is parked. It is like the heaven for having ice cream with the family there.
j. t.
Well worth a visit, cost £12.00 for standard adult entry. Stained glass windows are superb also the ceiling and many other artifacts. There is a museum down some steps showing the Roman heritage of the city also the foundations can be seen along with the original Roman Street that runs beneath the Cathedral. Toilets are open within the Cathedral, free maps are available so you know where to go if you so choose.
T. H.
Very expensive plus have to pay extra to climb tower
Lovely cathedral and decor is amazing
D. B.
An amazing place to visit for the day, so much history
尘.
Wonderful structure and pretty colourful windows. As a symbol building of the York, it worth visiting!
S. D.
On a cold winter weather, the hot dog was served hot with onions and sauce. The French fries were so good and together with the hot Mulled wine just made a hungry person satisfied. These tents were set up for Christmas beside York Minster. Do try them. It’s worth your spend. 👍
m. h. &. g.
York will always be our happy place, I could look at the minister every day its such a beautiful building inside is just as beautiful!! would highly recommend to others its definitely something to "wow" at!
H. M.
Beautiful architecture and windows, as well as a surprising amount to see in the underground museum. Lots of historical information to read for those interested. The recitals on newly refurbished organ will be amazing - unfortunately not starting until after our visit!
W. C.
Well worth the £12-50 entrance fee, and you can visit again free of charge within a year. Due to health reasons I couldn't do the tower walk, I think its 175 steps up, but the view is the highest point in York and costs an extra £6. Spent a good few hours in here
N. L.
Spectacular cathedral with a rich and fascinating history. I would highly recommend a visit if you're in York. Astonishingly beautiful! I even found my twin in some stained glass 😳 (See last photo)
M. B.
Ticket lasts for a year, so can come back again. The museum is worth the history lesson and the crypt and chapter house are cool. Bring kid and have them borrow the explorer backpack, pretty good stuff inside for them to feel like little explorer!
M. I.
A place full of history to which you must go without fail, you will enjoy every second.
C. M.
Stunning church. I'm not religious in anyway but am in awe of buildings like this. Its vast, beautiful and has plenty of history. A must see on your visit to York.
G. L.
Have to make sure you have pre booked your tickets before arrival.
It is the most incredible building.
The stain glass windows are truly magnificent
L. D.
Beautifully detailed sacred site and a must if you’re passing through York and the beautiful north of England. The Munster offers some stunning views of archaic beauty that is fantastic to see and to enjoy. It’s well maintained and picture friendly, but more so is a great opportunity to look keenly at a cornerstone of the glorious place that is York.
D. P.
Absolutely beautiful building. Great heritage.
H. L.
York Minster An iconic structure in the centre of York. Over 1000 years old the handcrafted stone structure with its medieval stained glass windows is one of the worlds “ most magnificent Cathedrals”.
D. G.
Just a magical building with so much history. We had a free tour which makes all the difference. We spend 3 hours in there but you could easily spend 6. Tickets valid for a year so great if you can visit again within that timescale. Pretty good value at £12.50pp given that annual ticket.
C. l.
£12 entrence fee is quite the contradiction to the catholic church not to mention the tasteless paypal QR codes stuck underneath the lit candles and the extra £6 you need to pay in order to go up to the top of the cathedral, however it is nice once you’re inside and very historical. I would not be partial to a donation to the church once there, however some of the efforts were in extremely poor taste, such as putting card machines into walls so people can tap their card against it to make a donation, and go against all teachings of christianity today. museum was alright.
A. B.
Good place. Beautiful architecture. Do not understand why we have to pay extra for the tower.
J. P.
A must for any visit to York. One of the greatest Cathedrals in the world.
D. M.
Stunning, absolutely beautiful. Well worth a visit.
S. H.
Amazing building! Previously done the tour and rooftop walk, amazing views!
n. c.
Beautiful Building🤩Didn't get chance to go inside.. But amazing by looking around 👌
Y. S.
Amazing beautiful architecture both inside and outside. You get in free with a local council card. The inside was beautiful.. rivaling some of the great cathedrals in Italy or France. The basement museum was very informative and really blows your mind on its history which goes back to the viking era. The gardens/park next to the minster is a great place for kids to run or cool off after a busy day exploring
S. L.
Well worth the £12 charge, especially as the ticket can be reused as many times as you want for a year.
I. T.
WOW what a building
So much history within those walls
Well worth a look around. It's only when you are inside do you appreciate the sheer size of the place.
K. N.
Fantastic - a must see while in York. Hopefully everything is open but check availability for climbing the stairs to the tower - and for visiting the crypt.
m.
Amazing experience. If you go try the tower challenge. The views are amazing.
S. W.
Always a pleasure to visit, steeped in history, and I'm sure it could tell many a tale from hundreds of years of history.
S. V.
Gorgeous building, a must visit for anyone in york
G. S. C.
Magnificent. I can thoroughly recommend the guided tour. We also joined evensong, reverent and peaceful worship in an historic cathedral.
P. R.
The most beautiful Cathedral we have visited in the UK. Full of light, clean lines, majestic, massive, very few tombs and plaques unlike some other cathedrals. The climb to the top of the Tower was awesome, as was the display downstairs explaining the earlier foundations and how they have reinforced the existing ones. You can touch the history!
K. N.
Stunning building. Very special. Everyone should visit if they get the chance.
H. M.
I visited at 9:30am as I wanted to pray and light a candle for my unborn baby and a safe labour/birth. Was shocked to find upon reaching the door that you can join worship at service times for free but otherwise you must pay an entry fee! And it's not cheap!
Of course, if secular tourists have paid for entry then they feel entitled to secular use of the space. The atmosphere was horrible. People talking and laughing at a normal volume. Very few people sit down to enjoy the peace of the sanctuary space. All I could think was that Jesus would be furious.
I went into the quiet Chapel for prayer and was followed by some giggling Italian tourists. Thankfully they left once they saw me kneel down but my visit to what is a famously spiritual place left me feeling very angry and hopeless. The Christians have been priced out and the money changers allowed in. It's heart breaking to see. According to the website, I could have simply stated that I wanted to pray and not paid the entry fee, but that is not what the signs outside the door say. I wish I hadn't visited. It just upset me. Beautiful building, but that wasn't the reason for my visit.
P. D.
Superb historical place with amazing detailed architecture.
j. d.
Stunning minster. Too look at everything took just under 90 mins. You have to book online and pick a slot. The volunteers are very knowledgeable. For an extra £5 you can walk up the tower steps. Again you have to book online. There are 275 steps. You need to wear trainers or sturdy shoes as the steps are slippy. Don't do if you are claustaphobic. You are told all this before you start. About halfway you have to walk across a ledge which is narrow but very secure. Once you get to the top you are greeted by a volunteer who checks you are ok. Personally i found going down harder then going up. However the views are worth it.
P. M.
Our regular bike ride into York was overtaken by the Viking festival throughout York on Saturday children ,adults dressed in the Viking outfits complete with swords and axes .lots of reenactments stalls and battles great day for all
E. T.
Absolutely amazing place. My Girlfriend & I paid £17.00 each to do the Sightseeing inside York Minster + the Tower Tour, where we had 275 Steps to climb up to the Top. Shattered us both but, well worth it as the Views were Epic.
C. M.
An amazing place to visit. We were lucky and the organ was playing and the sound.is incredible.
Lots to see and plenty of information available.
B. F.
Beautiful building and history a must see if you are in york, the stained glass is amazing the architecture is breath taking, very well organised great place to visit
B. D.
Well worth a visit if you're in York. Always blown away by the awesome structure of these buildings bearing in mind the date built. The crypt is especially worth viewing. Ticket at approx £12.50 is good value and also allows re entry for free within 1 year.
L. B.
Beautiful building outside and in well worth the visit
P.
Yes you can pay on the door , £12.50 entrance fee . Very impressive inside, well worth a visit.
D. S.
Awesome place to visit...and do not climb the tower if you have breathing or heart problems.
M. A. W.
Beautiful cathedral and well worth climbing the 275 steps
J. C.
Spectacular. York is without a doubt my favourite city in the UK and didnt dissapoint this time either.
The Cathedral is truly a MUST DO and is awe inspiring
T. M.
Absolutely the most stunning building in York! No matter how many times I pass its staggering just how beautiful and imposing this Minster is. A must see. And climbing the tower to the top leaves you with some incredible views of the city
J. J.
It's definitely the top place to see if you're visiting York. Like many things in York you have to pay to enter and it's worth doing so in advance.
The inside is awe inspiring and there's some really interesting things to see, including an original Roman column within the catacombs.
If you're feeling up to it, you can pay to go up the tower which I've heard is worth doing but I haven't done so myself.
P. G.
You have to pay to enter but was free on Easter Sunday, lucky for us
A. S.
York Minster is a beautiful example of the cathedrals built during the Medieval period.
Almost every step reveals another interesting piece of history. There is the Chapel dedicated to the men of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI), and statues of the Kings of England up to Plantagenet time. High up on the wall is the "Tarzan" shield (bearing the arms of Lord Greystoke).
There are memorials to the great and the good; and a couple that commemorate the sad loss of a very young child. The crypt is well worth a visit, as are the choir stalls.
They've started work on restoring one of the huge stained glass windows, and the project is likely to take over a decade which shows the care and dedication that is required.
Unfortunately, the tower was closed because of the need for social distancing, so I couldn't go up, but I am assured that it offers an amazing view of the city and is well worth the effort to climb.
A really enjoyable place to visit with something for anyone interested in history.
M. B.
Very welcoming staff, and a stunning place to visit in York. Whilst I am not of any faith, I greatly enjoyed the atmosphere in the minster, the organ playing really added to this. The one way system in the minster made me feel safe with covid. I would visit here again, it’s a wonderful moment of serenity amongst a busy city.
S. T.
What can you say about a place like this. With its history going back to 627AD, and with some of most beautiful stained glasss in the country, a lot of which has been lovingly restored over a number of years by a dedicated team based here in York. The outside of the building also is constantly being restored or replaced. The stone masons are often to be seen at work in the grounds. Inside is stunning and needs time to explore and enjoy. The organ has been restored recently and also the great East window which cost several millions of pounds and took about 6 years. The work undertaken on a building of this magnitude is constantly seeking ways to raise finances. And if you are every visiting York, please consider visiting our beautiful and welcoming minster.
A. I.
It was lovely from the outside. Despite of a weekend visit the opening times were very restricted and we could not get in. Updated: got in on another visit to York and the cathedral is spectacular, in and out. Take a guided tour while in, it's free but you need to collect a ticket as places are limited.
H.
It's magnet and top tourist place in York - spectacular building with impressive design - I can't imagine how and how long they built this! So from outside great. What is wee bit disappointing is interiors - I would guess to have more interesting things inside, more heavy caliber artifacts. But overall definitely must see in Yorkshire!
q. w.
Amazing place, slightly disappointed at the fact that you have to pay to get in. Could be bigger.
M. H.
An awesome place of beauty and peace even with people wandering through. Unfortunately missed the guided tour even though we booked our entry tickets online. So my advice is get there at least 15 minutes before the ticket time. Enjoy.
M. M.
Before I left for York, I was a little worried that my expectations would be too high. After all, I already have enough beautiful photos, films and CDs of the minister and the choir at home. But live it surpassed everything. What a magnificent building, a terrific singing choir, lovely services. I am very glad that I was able to experience this for a few weeks and I would very much like to come back.
P. A.
Simply amazing architecture, the atmosphere is amazing, all around the area so much to see and take in.
A. P.
You need to book an entry time slot, but when you are in there is plenty to see, there are information boards but there is a free tour which you book when you enter, which takes you through the history of the Minster. You can go underground and see the repairs that had to be done to ensure the main tower did not fall in, also here is a small museum.
H. B.
I've been living up here for nearly 5 years, my son went to University here and this is the first time I've been inside as every other time we have visited ots been closed to the public for various reasons but I have to say the place is breathtaking especially if u are visiting for a ceremony or something that involves music as the acoustics are simply brilliant.
M. F.
Not quite as mind blowing as the Bassilica in Barcelona or The Vatican but incredible nonetheless
H.
Magnificent example of gothic construction from the medieval periods. Lovely town, loads of history. And the statue of Constantine the great is treat to see.
r. w.
Wow. I have been blown away by my experience here. Everytime I thought I had seen everything we turned another corner to more. The Minster is absolutely stunning and very well taken care of. The amount of information and architecture was absolutely wonderful. At £12.50 a visit I would say it is well worth it and more. It is not often I am lost for words. But this place is beautiful.
M. J.
Beautiful. We were there at noon and the rector came out and said a prayer.
F.
If you go to York you will notice this magnificent structure. It’s a must see
a. h.
Did the tour with tickets, the volunteers do an amazing job giving so much information about the stained glass, specific tombs, and the original Norman walls that are still a part. Be sure to stick around if you hear the organ start, its amazingly beautiful and serene.
L. M.
This was more than a tourist attraction, this was a marvel! Loved how we could walk around in our own time and take in the beauty of the architecture. Staff friendly and not crowded. A highlight. Lovely cute gift shop also.
J. G.
Stunning, left with a crick in my neck from gazing at the windows and roof! The Chaper house has recently reopened and the stone work in there was amazing. So intricate and the gargoyles were quite humorous too. Lots of work going on to restore the many windows. The guides were helpful, friendly and informative. Well worth a visit. You do need to book at the moment.
J. B.
Incredible stained glass windows, admission price of £12 felt a little steep, but can't visit York without seeing the famous Minster Cathedral.
A. N.
Beautiful place! Recommended if you visit York
K. B.
Almost put off by the ticket price, especially since I visited many years ago. The fact your ticket is valid for 1 year is definitely a plus, as I took a lot longer than expected to see everything so needed to return another day.
Having visited 25+ years ago, I was surprised how much has and continues to change with this very old building.
I was utterly amazed by the underground exhibition created around the modern solution to a very old problem that could have seen the central tower collapse.
Would love to do the scaffold tour, but it's only available on a very limited number of days.
T. X.
Absolutely beautiful place. Total masterpiece.
R. L.
Amazing you will love the architecture, the place is just amazing to walk around and look at. And you will feel that the £ you spend to get in was not enough… the place is amazing with a historical museum underneath. It was fantastic
T. S.
A magnificent building packed with history. Incredibly easy to spend at least 2 hours viewing the interior and the beautiful stained glass, choir, and detailed chapels. The guides were very knowledgeable, though with Covid you have to approach them (they weren't doing tours as of June 2021). The crypt is also an interesting area with a Roman column.
Highly recommend to everyone that visits York.
V. H.
Majestic place. It's a great place to just sit and absorb the grandeur and history. If you like stained glass, it's the place for you. I could just sit and look at the windows alone for hours.
S. F.
Even if you aren't religious this is a fantastic building for architecture and sheer craftsmanship. Worth booking the Tower Tour for great views over York
J. S. S.
Lovely place, makes you feel small. The ticket is valid for 1 year, so it's very worth it to buy them. I dont recommend the tower tour though, 275 steps in a very narrow spiral staircase, with a view that does not pay off.
D. A.
Very helpful staff. Beautiful Minster with your tickets valid for further visits within 12 months. Guided tours available. At busy times advisable to book. Lovely gift shop.
N. V.
Amazing Cathedral. Just the architecture is well worth the visit. But the best part was the views from the top of the tower. 275 steps are a big effort but very satisfying when conquered.
s. B.
Lovely pla e to visit worth spending the money...
S. B.
York minster has lovely architecture, lovely stained glass windows and interesting history. Its a shame its a 1 way system due to social distancing and due to this if you need the toilet before you enter then I would suggest going before, as you have to walk all the way through to almost the exit to get to the toilets and you cannot re-enter as it takes you to the gift shop and exit. So you have to go round to the entrance and have your tickets checked, small introduction etc again. Also I can appreciate some of the entrance fee goes to restoration, supports the volunteers etc but £12 each per adult without a gift aid for an hours look around could be classed as a little excessive.
T. N.
A seriously impressive cathedral with lots of history. We showed up for the stained glass tour, this was included in the entry fee but the availability is limited. Highly recommend the stained glass tour
R. D.
Beautiful place and I took my religious grandparent and she absolutely loved meandering around asking lots of questions, which the volunteer staff were very accommodating.
C. W.
Fabulous what else. Attended an organ recital, just fantastic.
M. D.
What a beautiful place to visit. Don't go to York without seeing this magnificent building. I took over 300 photographs inside and out. Lit a candle for my Dad was a fantastic few hours x
N. R.
Absolutely beautiful, outside and inside the building, didn't know we had to book tickets, just rang the ticket office and they emailed them to my phone straight away.
D. R.
The iconic spiritual home of the North. As part of a three day stay the high spot was the Petertide Eucharist including an enormous choir and jazz band weaving in the Sacred Concerts of Duke Ellington. Unforgettable. Magnificent. Inspiring. And a wonderful Archbishop sermon. Without his glasses!!
G. T.
Beautiful historic building with lots to see inside. As well as looking at the architecture there is a museum in the basement which is full of information and history about the building. Would recommend pre-booking so you avoid the queues.
F. P.
It's simply stunning, what more do you need to know!
A. S.
Absolutely worth the entry price. Loads to do and explore with under 10s. We had a great time exploring the minster and the museum. The Little Explorer packs kept the children entertained for ages.
M. B.
We had a lovely day, very busy place we must go back when we have more time.
D. H.
Beautiful place and so peaceful for a 🙏, and remember those lost.
D. P.
Fantastic building with massive strained glass windows and full of interesting features around the building. The guides are worth following. Look out for the bosses in the ceiling and the crypt is worth visiting. The screen looks newly cleaned and is massive.
H. S. (.
Love history and learn what man achieved in the 13th century no health and safety yes stone masons must have been 2 a penny. Built on top of a roman fortress. Go early and book. Your slot online. Shmo
N. O.
Been to York so many times and finally had a good look around the Minster. What a fabulous building, so much history. We didn’t take a tour, we will go again and do so. The information boards were so informative and the undercroft museum was fascinating. We didn’t get to the Crypt or the Tower Challenge. That’s next time.
E. S.
Amazing! Had a guided tour. A must.
K. G.
Spent over 3 hours at the Minster today and still didn’t see and learn everything there is to know. We went on the general tour with Sandra and she was wonderful, funny, and knowledgeable. Sad we had to cut out early to catch the Chapter House roof tour. Great experience as well, have never done anything like that before and really enjoyed it. Two more great guides, you have some truly wonderful people working and volunteering at the Minster. Very special place. ❤️
A. T.
This is amazing building indeed . So beautifully constructed and so enormous that it is difficult to take a picture of it in all its glory . There is a little park here where you can sit and admire the work of art of the builders . If you want to see inside you have to book ticket before because there is a lot of people waiting .
E. W.
Incredibly interesting and beautiful historic site with knowledgeable staff and stunning glass work. Beautiful structure. Absolutely a must see if you're visiting York especially the Tower Challenge
Z. B.
As a Christian, it is so important to sometimes just be silent and be with God. Even on a rushed schedule, I loved the cathedral and found it to be a soothing and healing experience. The chapel specifically was quiet and with prayer mats at the ready, it was nice to just have a few minutes to kneel down and pray before the Lord. I would like to thank those who keep this place of pilgrimage and worship in great condition for all to enjoy.
S. H.
A shame the Tower was closed I would have loved to climb it
D. P.
What more can I add to a beautiful building like York Minster
J. S.
Nice but not as impressive as I would have expected as it is quite empty compared to other cathedrals. There are several areas closed for renovation or social distance so we couldn’t go up the tower or see the chapter house.
J. G.
Buetiful place if you visit york than must go there if your not go there you are stupid person in world.
G. F.
Really lovely and really special. Just make sure you reserve a free spot by booking.
Make sure you make a donation as well.
M. M.
A spectacular example of architecture which seems to go on and on. I snapped a couple of pics in the Chapter house as no one was around. The eight pointed star means something in W40K...
We were lucky to be there on Good Friday. Whilst not participating in the ceremony, we did enjoy the choral music and had time to contemplate at the tribute to Ukraine. The grounds are worth a visit too. York is like Chester on steroids.
T. H.
I never felt like I did in this cathedral. If you get a chance go there and stay for a while. Breathe in, enjoy being there. Imagine all the time that has been through those walls. immerse yourself in its beauty. Stay for evensong.
S. S.
Lots to see. Enjoyed the history of the Minster down stairs.
M. B.
This is one amazing place, it always seems to take my breath away every time I see it.
What history this place has and everytime I see this building I notice things I haven't before.
Just need to see if I can get up the steeple at some point, what an experience that would be.
The capital of North Yorkshire.
H. T.
One of the iconic English Cathedrals. Widest Gothic nave and ancient stained glass are the highlights. Note that the Chapter House is currently closed for renovations and won't reopen until 2022.
S. Z.
Excellent place to visit, amazing church, beautiful. Covid protocol where great never felt over crowded. Is a must if you are in York.
F.
Loved it so much! Must see. It's absolutely breathtaking
l. s.
A must see absolutely stunning so much to see especially the under croft where the Roman site is
g.
Stunning cathedral, well worth visiting. Only negative is that you have to pay extra to go up the tower. But the underground Roman museum/exhibition is great
j. e.
Simply stunning. How did the masons of old build such a magnificent edifice with simple tools and engineering skills? The stained glass is out of this world.
S.
A beautiful place with great history.
K. M.
Famously important and certainly not to be missed on any visit to York.
Unfortunately, Her Majesty Elizabeth II had passed away during the week of our visit so visiting the cathedral was not permitted. However we were allowed to enter to pray and to sign the book of condolences.
A sad but very worthwhile experience.
R. M.
Would have liked to have gone inside, but it was being used at the time. Also, on discovering it was £12 per person to go in, we decided against it anyway. I understand there are costs, but if we had been able to go in for free, we might have spent that money in the coffee shop if there was one, or in the visitor shop, which we did have a look at.
M. C.
York is small, but York Minster is very large, the buildings are magnificent, and there are guidelines when visiting. Because of the epidemic, it can't climb to the top. The staff told us that the ticket is valid for December. There are really a lot of souvenirs in the store.
K. C.
[July 2022] Not too shabby, as far as Cathedrals go. Tip: Book your tickets in advance to avoid queues.
P. H.
Well worth a visit when in York. Be sure to do a tower top visit(extra charge). No lift though,275 steps up a winding staircase. Great 360° views of York from the top.
M. H.
Great cathedral. A lot to see. You can buy a ticket only for the cathedral (I think it was £16) but if you want to go to the top of the tower you need to buy a separate ticket (around £5). BUT be aware that climbing to the top is not for everyone, those are A LOT of stairs! I and my friends are all healthy young people and we had to stop twice to catch out-breath. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how long it took to get to the top, but it felt like forever, if that's of any help :D
And AND there was an office on the top of the tower - tiny little room on the top of the world - and a lady, which obviously works there, was sitting in it cheerfully (probably making sure that nobody jumps from the top).
And when you think about it - this lady needs to take these stairs every single day!!
She probably goes to work half an hour earlier just so she can get to the top on time!
And she must have legs of steel!
I do recommend it though, the view from the top is magnificent!
We went around March, it wasn't very busy.
M. H.
Such a lovely place we went to a 7.30 am service on the day of the Queen's funeral. What a lovely 20 minutes the people leading the service, Minster security staff and police were so lovely. Thank you York Minster for giving my wife and I strength on a historic day ❤️
L. A.
The most stunning building. The glorious stone and fabulous stained glass.
Revisited today 11th May. Please note that there is an entry fee £12.50 per adult. No concession for o.a.p.s despite the bulk of the midweek visitors being retired. Personally I find it obscene that the Church is charging people to go through its doors, when country churches are open to anyone who wants to visit and is happy to make a voluntary contribution to church funds. It doesn't exactly fit with the bible teachings to me. The tourism business is obviously more important than the original purpose of the building.
M. A.
Amazing place , price drops a star
D. N.
One of the UK's largest and most important cathedrals. Vast interior space and stained glass. Many additional places of interest once you're inside including tower, crypt and chapterhouse. An essential place to visit. You need 2-3 hours to see it, making admission charge not so bad.
R. B.
The largest gothic cathedral in western Europe and surely in everybody's top 10 list of the most beautiful buildings in Europe, probably the world.
If you want to join a service or say a quiet prayer, entry is free but if not, it is so worth £10 to go in and see the wonder at first hand. Also really worthwhile joining one of the free guided tours; the guides are so knowledgable and interesting, the time flies by.
The absolute highlights are the stained glass windows, with the sun shining through them they are astonishing. Don't miss the marvellous exhibition and the treasury in the crypt either. If you are reasonably fit, it is also worth climbing to the top of the tower. There are 275 steep, narrow and winding steps but the views over the city and surrounding countryside will take your breath away even more than the climb.
H. J.
Very nice, easy to get into if a resident of York, if not plan your trip and try to pick a quiet time as is very popular lots to see inside, also be aware that stain glass renovation is ongoing so there is scaffolding inside and outside still, and will be up for a while.
C. A.
History at its best. Must do visit if you are in York
Y. C.
Very interesting, but could do with better lighting in the basement, they have dates of historical events but could not see them very well. Overall amazing architecture.
C. I.
Impressive! Lots of history and art.
The stained glass with religious paintings are the best work of art.
The architecture is amazing.
P. P.
Very nice. I went a few days before the Queens Funeral so there was no sightseeing. But I was allowed in to sign the book and loved what I saw.
K. H.
This wonderful Cathedral is a beauty. Magnificent in stature and grandeur. The tours at the time of our visit were bookable and socially distanced. Masks had to be worn too. There is great wheelchair accessibility throughout. The staff were wonderful. Very well informed and enthusiastic filling us in on the details of history and restoration. The organ has just been painstakingly restored and looks stunning. The East window has also been restored magnificently and one of the staff gave us loads of detail on the story portrayed and showed us pictures on her ipad. We arrived whilst a choir was rehearsing for an evening concert which was beautiful. And left listening to the choristers rehearsing for evensong.
S. F.
Beautiful Building. Its a Pay and free for a year. (As long asU have Ur original ticket.) Bigger than expected. Polite, Friendly and helpful staff. Definitely coming back.
C. B.
Absolutely stunning. Amazing place . So much history
c. w.
York is a beautiful city. Lots to see and do. York Minster is a must. So much history you can almost feel it. A visit to the vaults showd the story and the restoration being carried out.
M. C.
Lots of history and a lovely place
P. H.
Did not advance purchase tickets but would advice to do this as if buying tickets takes time. The glassworks is fantastic. Given number.of people it was Still tranquil
t. b.
Beautiful place to see and spend time in
F. M.
What a fantastic site to visit, History, on History on History. Well worth the entry fee plus your ticket is valid for 12 months. Book online to skip the queues on busy days.
L. M.
Beautiful building, dropping with history. Not very welcoming staff, couldn't wait to get us out of there
K. S.
It's amazing you have to go to get the full experience
a. h.
Fabulous church / minster our 3rd visit
G. C.
What to say about this magnificent building? You just wonder at it and how did they do it? If you're fit climb the stairs to the top of the central tower and the views.
S.
What a scenic place to take in all the history that surrounds it. The whole City of York is taking a step back into time and just absolutely breathtaking. It's astonishing how well preserved the area is. Went in the springtimewhen the owners were all in bloom and it just added to the magic of the city.
I.
What a fantastic building. So steeped in history and very beautiful. You can take a trip up to the top ( if you have the legs for it lol).If you go to York you can't miss it. Its the biggest building there, as by-laws forbid any buildings to be built bigger as no one should be closer to God than the church. Lol fun fact there!!
N. T.
Beautiful but was being renovated and with covid restrictions in place, worth paying just to ensure a piece of history is preserved. Prices in gift shop was really good, something for everyone.
A.
-Stunning
-Impressive
-Stainer Glass Tour was good
T. G.
Beautiful. It is a bit pricey, but there’s a lot to see inside. Will take you at least one hour. The museum on the basement super interesting.
P. &. R.
Amazing old Cathedral.very beautyful construction.A lot to see in this area. Many old churches.York is a Historical city one of the most beautyful city in the world .great place for bring your children. Highly recommend this place. Car parking available nearby Cathedral the price is little expensive both for 2-3hours it's ok.
P. W.
What a beautiful place. We had an amazing guided tour from an 86 year old local lady- with vast knowledge and a wicked sense of humour. Made our day x
J. (.
Love visiting this place.
Staff very informative and helpful.
Booked in advance to make sure we would be able to get in, but plenty people just turned up & paid, but still covid safe.
H. F.
Not to be missed on any tour of York. Helpful staff, well informed.
S.
Another great visit met a very knowledgeable young priest a lovely lady God bless
V. R.
Lovely experience, will definitely revisit ❤
v. h.
Worth to visit. Shame it was still under construction when I visit. But I will be back
A.
Love York Minster such a beautiful building, the stained glass windows are amazing. Would definitely recommend a visit
A. N.
Been before during lockdown but I wanted to see the view from the top. Was lucky enough to see a wedding when I was there. Such a beautiful Cathedral.
D. M.
Spectacular! Must see if you are in York.
T. A.
Beautiful place, a must see if you visit York.
It said it closed at 3.15 the day we went but they closed the doors at 2.50.
Lots of disappointed people turning up and were refused entry.
We saw one family consisting of two elderly ladies with a large ish gentleman in a wheelchair.
They'd pushed him all the way there, were exhausted 'cos it was a very warm day, but they were turned away too 😞
Q. S.
Wow. Only once inside do you get an idea of the scale of the place. Lots of informative displays covering such things as the restoration project, the crypt and an archaeological exhibition stretching back to Roman times.
M. H.
Fabulous architecture, sadly at £12.50 pp with no concessions for adults with an extra £6pp to go up into the tower we thought it was rather expensive. Plenty if oportunities to try to get one to spend even more money at every turn!
B. W.
It is beautiful cathedral to vist
T. S.
Watch out for the Bengal cat stalking the premises. This place is worth a visit
R. A.
What can we say, just amazing and totally fascinating experience. History, architecture and just being there is something that you have to feel it yourself. Do visit.
M. T.
I wish there was more castle to see as gentrification has reduced the medieval castles to mere palaces, but the ancient church is well worth the destruction of the castle. Be prepared for too many Harry potter fans
a.
Fantastic great guide value for money
S. H.
Don’t agree with having to pay to look around a place of worship I think a donation approach would be better
C. L.
Lovely old Cathedral, an excellent visit and great to see the Undercroft. The decoration inside the Minster is beautiful and a great atmosphere with the huge open space.
s. C.
First time I have ever gone in. £12.50 adult which is valid for the year, free child, but you have to pay to go up to the top of the tower £6 per person, well worth a visit
É. Z.
The York Minster is amazing as well!
T. O.
Always something new to see or discover. £12.50 once paid gets you in all year if you are in a position to revisit. Undercroft display really fascinating. Good spot to day your prayers too — Zouche chapel excellent for quiet meditation.
R.
Nice to go around and see the historical wall
W. R.
One of the most magnificent structures in the world. There is so much detail, a guidebook is essential. All the staff are kind and knowledgeable and happy to help.
C. T.
they do guided tour that is included in the ticket, the best experience i’ve ever had while visiting a cathedral! a very nice guide too
B. L.
A beautiful, historical tourist attraction. Right in the centre of York and easy to access. Beautiful scenery and lots of places to eat and drink nearby.
H. A. S.
Yorkminster beautiful what can you say about it I have been a few times there and I even stayed two weeks at the Queens hotel at the station was so much things to look at the York minster reminded me when I was abroad Looking leaning tower of Pisa there is so much you can do in York you need a lifetime to do it I have Don someone looking around York happy days I did live there for six months when my job was finished I came back home to Carlisle
It taught me experience and how to live and we will go back to York minster inside it’s wonderful and godliness spent many hours I haven’t seen everything yet it’s time to go home again thank you and York for the wonderful memories you gave me
S. L.
A lovely place to visit but I don't agree with entry charges.
However, the shop is a good experience too and just the views outside ate immense !
G. K.
Just a wonderful building. So much history. You'll need 2 to 3 hours to wander around. Book online as it gets busy.
C. U.
Fantastic old cathedral. The COVID safe tour was really well done. Like most things, these days you have to book in advance, but don’t let that put you off. It is really well done and you got to see the whole of the minister on a one-way self-guided tour. A must see if you are visiting York
S. J.
Full of history and treat to eyes. Nearby streets leads to The Shambles, nice stone paved roman era roads with tons of shops for a satisfying treat to your stomach. Must to visit if you are in The UK.
S. C.
Every time I see the minster I know I'm home, I'm fortunate enough to have this on my doorstep in my home city, its directly opposite my child's nursery and we pass it every day the inside is just as spectacular as the outside, the undercroft is fantastic (the mister is built over Roman ruins) which you can walk through on the tour
R. A. J.
One of the finest buildings in town
L. B.
Very touristy- didn't feel the calm of a cathedral. Quite expensive entry. Lovely museum and great stained glass.
E. N.
Very impressive minster. I'd recommend double checking admission prices online to decide if it's worth a trip. From the outside it was wonderful and allegedly contains the most medieval glass in Europe. This fact was over heard from a tour guide. Take a walk through the gardens beside it, maybe stop and have a picnic.
G. B.
Beautiful gothic church! Although, you should know: No access to any of the towers at the moment. It provides an impressive view of the city, so it's a shame. Anyway, the church by itself is impressive. It's been restaured once or twice, because its age and due to a fire some years ago. You'd see many details all around, and a lot of history. There's also a gift shop with lovely pieces. Free for York residents.
N. G.
Simply wonderful place,peaceful and lovely.
E. M.
Good experience of old architecture..
G. D.
Beautiful. So much to see. Glad the tickets give you year round access. The best view, however, is from the outside.
a. c.
Really beautiful city to walk around. Plenty to do and lots of places to eat and drink. Lots of independent shops that give it a uniqueness.
m. g.
Easy to find with good amenities near by
S. M.
Lovely place to learn some history and see artifacts
K. F.
Fantastic experience visiting this amazing place but did not expect an admission fee then to be asked to sign gift aid form which I'm sure is not legal as this is not a donation!
B. C.
Beatutiful building and the craftmanship is amazing. Was a bit taken aback by the entrance fee, but buildings need upkeep so went in. The little chapels were lovely as was the crypt area. The thing that was really disappointing was the sheer number of paypal QR codes everywhere asking for more money.
R. M.
Wonderful visit shows from earliest days to present day would have been better if the view point was open but still well worth a visit very thought provoking
O. H.
Beautiful building. Don't usually pay the admission to see inside, as the outside is marvellous enough. But the inside does come very close from what I can remember. Wonderful hub of a wonderful city.
G. G.
Our two grandsons always enjoy a picnic in the Minster gardens ..the lawns are kept really well and there's plenty of seating in the sunshine and in the shade..
T. J. G.
Such rich history contained in this City. Loving it!!
A. P.
glad to be taking part in the wonderful eve of her majesty the queen s funeral. the whole service was beautifully put together along with the music
C.
I adored it here so much I'd revisit York just for the minster. Draped in history, exploring this church could be a whole-day endeavour. Delving into the crypts and into the flashes of Roman streets below feels beyond description. So much history here, which you're constantly reminded of by plaques about its architecture - how many materials the minster has been through. One limestone pillar is available to look at inside - an example of a material that has hurt the structure of the church.
You cannot touch the Roman streets/assets (although people for some reason toss coins into those areas?) but seeing them is amazing.
N. B.
Pricey, but good if you love architecture, stained glass, history or of course have a religious connection to it.
The crypt is cool, don't miss it.
M. S.
York Minster is without doubt one of the most impressive structures to see in York. Definitely worth a look even if you don't get to look inside. It makes you think how buildings like this were constructed many years ago .
M.
Really spectacular cathedral. Better than st paul's. Really interesting, absolutely worth visiting and taking the guided tour.
S. B.
Extraordinary beautiful Church. A must visit in York. Make sure you buy a ticket online, will help you get inside the church quicker.
R. W.
Better be okay with stairs if you do the tower tour. Great for walking around. Lots of history.
g. m.
Fantastic Cathedral. With underground museum showing the restoration and new footings to the tower. And artifacts from the roman garrison witch it was built on.
A. v.
Amazing structure standing firm seance ages.i really loved the YORK CITY it's clean calm and beautiful. But the entry fee for minister is very high.
F. T.
Very interesting place to visit. Tour was good. Lots of great architecture and history
N. B.
Must visit if you’re coming to York first time. First impressions when I was outside the building. Astonished! The level of detail behind the architecture is eye pleasing. Photographers would really enjoy the angles and shots of this splendid building. Wasn’t too much to pay an entry fee in worth spending a few hours. What I really enjoyed was the top view! Was a bit of a daunting climb but truly worth it in the end. Really enjoyable with a partner, great for history and also photography.
D. K.
This is the main attraction in York, the almighty cathedral! This cathedral is massive and majestic, there are no queues to get in but you do need to book in advance. It is beautiful both outside and inside and there are plenty of things to see, defo worth a visit
D. N. 1. F. P.
Was Blown Away With York Minister. Turned The Corner & Wow Stunning Absouloutly Beautiful Building It's Amazing. If You Go To York Make Sure You Visit York Minister.
D. P.
This has to be a place to go to if you can , you will be amazed and overwhelmed by its beauty, charm and the magnificent architecture, take your time when there , sit and rest and keep looking up
A. M.
A great historic church in the centre of York. The biggest cathedral in Northern Europe and well worth a visit
C. M.
Very beautiful with lots of architecture. I would recommend the tower walk as you get to go up to the very top of the minster. Not for the faint hearted though as it's about 275 steps. Lots to see and even a museum that goes under the minster and shows all the old foundations.
R. W. S.
What an outstanding building with outstanding guides.
Smaller tour groups would enhance the experience, or use technology.
G. A.
Never been to the Minster but can see why it's such a hit with visitors. Informative staff. Incredible artifacts and very contemplative surrounding. The entry ticket is valid for 12 months from date of entry so, keep it in a safe place as you can return many times.
M. E.
Lovely experience took most of the day
S. T. (. G.
10/10 amazing architecture and a sense of humour (?)
C. R.
Visited during Queen's period of mourning, so not able to sightsee. Nonetheless a magnificent place of worship, history, and serenity.
M. G.
Absolutely gorgeous detailing inside and out. The craftsmanship is evident in every nook and cranny. Best money spent on a tour. Quite possibly the most beautiful house of worship I have ever visited. The views from the top of the tower are stunning and give views of the whole of York.
A. K.
Nice place to visit and to keep the young ones interested there's rucksacks with interactive sheets to look for things binoculars ,magnifying glasses, provided
R. M.
An awe-inspiring place to visit. You could spend an entire day just here. Mind boggling in its enormity. Pre-book to make sure you've got a slot to visit during the pandemic. Covid-19 secure practices enforced. [NB: restoration work is always ongoing. The organ is currently being restored. Due for completion Spring 2021. Scaffolding outside at certain sections. Doesn't detract from the visit or the experience]. 👍👍👍👍👍
D. D.
Nice quiet areas in here so you can sit and think. Lovely architecture with good signs telling you about the history of the place. Some areas might be difficult for disabled people to get to.
B. H.
Very sombre today, had a hushed feel about it. Managed to sign the book of condolence. Lit a candle to remember the boss.
N. B.
Extraordinary place with great effort spent on it's upkeep. You can easily spend a whole day here.
G.
I can only reiterate what others have written. WOW !.
How the hell did they make this all those years ago. We were very impressed with its size and decorative complexity.
We went for the tower tour that lets you climb up 275 steep, awkwardly shaped, tall steps in a rather confined spiral staircase. It consisted of 2 lots of stairs and an outdoor rooftop walk.
It is a bit claustrophobic and if you're a bit plump you'll struggle to fit through a doorway and an adjoining passage way halfway up.
The views from the top were fantastic and worth the climb.
C. R.
An amazing place to visit. The details in the stained glass windows and the whole place is beautiful, fantastic just mind blowing really. We walked the 275 steps up to the top to get a fabulous view on such a beautiful day.
k. A.
This is a must visit site in York. The building is magnificent. It is rich in history and beautiful spaces to explore. Up the stairs to the tower or down the steps underground are places visit. The stain glasses are richbin history. I love most the feeling of angels all around watching.
G. G.
Really interesting family day out - make sure you visit the museum underneath, and check out the kids treasure hunt
G. P.
Absolutely beautiful minster, definitely a must see if you're in York. Great place to take photos and can easily lose yourself in the beautiful architecture. Brilliant gardens surrounding the minster, perfect to sit and have lunch and admire the view, or to take the kids. You can also walk the wall surrounding the minster (and city) allowing you to see the minster from all angles. Great day out and a definite must see if your nearby.
G. T.
An amazing place to visit, breathtaking inside and out, the inside looking up to the roof looks like inside Westminster Abbey. Well worth a visit
B.
Fascinating experience! This is obviously a must see but I would recommend the guided tour service. And if you want to go all the way up the tower mind that the way up is extremely narrow and not quite suitable for people with claustrophobia.
M. K.
This was one of the highlights from a long weekend in York. So much history in this place. In your ticket a one hour long quided tour of the place is included. Ticket is valid for a whole year too. Pay £5 more and you can go up the central tower. Definitely worth it for the views of the city.
V. K.
This amazing 10th century cathedral towers beautifully over the York cityscape as she welcomes visitors from all over the world to her doorstep.
A grand building steeped in historical significance it has been built and rebuilt several times since the 600’s in fact with fire being the main culprit on most occasions.
When in York a visit is highly recommended!
S. T.
Enjoyed the stunning architecture and history of this cathedral. Very helpful staff are always on hand to bring points of interest to life.
R. H.
No trip to York wouldn't be complete without a visit to York Minster so having returned in 6 months we decided to do the tour AND climb to the top (275 steps up and down). Once up the view was amazing and we had a lovely sunny day as you can see in the pictures
J. W.
Visited 2014. Totally worth the price of admission and be sure to visit the roof! A wondrous view of the town site. A very special place. Loved every minute of our visit!
W. K.
York Minster is a beautifully designed church. It is beautiful inside and out. The architecture, stained glass, and paintings make this a must see when visiting York. Make sure and walk the old city wall before going into the church. This poece of history is definitely worth checking out.
M. S.
The York Minster is a beautiful cathedral and worth visiting should you be in York; if you have the time to it’s also worth climbing the tower for beautiful views of surrounding York. The climb is not for the faint hearted - the stairs are small and the staircase narrow but nonetheless a great experience. Accessible toilets inside the Minster and a gift shop on exit too should you wish any souvenirs from your visit.
B. M.
What a beautiful spot in York. The tour is great and having a guide is even better. The tall ceilings are breathtaking as well as the architecture. The tower is worth the money but get ready to climb many many stairs to get to the top.
S. S.
What an amazing, historical place to visit.paid £11 each which I thought was steep but you get to go back within the next year from your ticket date. I love the stain gladss windows and all the stone craftwork.
D. F.
A building of beauty. The craftsmanship is amazing. The size of everything is so massive. The detail gone into the glass stained windows is truly beautiful. We spend about 2 hours wondering around. A must visit
m. n.
York Minster is just magnificent !
a super architecture ! a mystic place!
If u get anywhere near to York, DO visit York Minster!
I climbed the Tower, which is quite a hike! It offers u a nice of York City.
But honestly u can also skip that part!
(it takes a lot of time away from u: 1. waiting in the que, 2. climbing up, 3. the again waiting, 4. then climbing down)
DO NOT climb the tower with small kids, seniors or unfit persons!

A fantastic historical place to visit, no matter what religion you believe in. The architecture is amazing. The place is looked after. They also provide guided tour, which is excellence! There us an entrance ticket fee but it valid 12 months so its a good value and worth a visit.

Beautiful space. Mesmerizing outside and in! Not only did we go in and do the tour (plus all the stairs up to the top!!) but we also sat outside in the grass near the entrance and that was also lovely. Getting up to the top is an adventure but the views from up there are breathtaking!
We didn't do the wheel they have there in York but we didn't feel cheated as the view from atop the York Minster seemed just as fulfilling!
It has so many areas for you to explore and look around. While we were there they were in the process of restoring their stained glass window so that was covered, but they also had this exhibit where they displayed some of the panels of the windows up close so you could go right up in front of them to take a look at them. An amazing experience! York is an amazing city with a great head for making each experience an education but also a fun one. Highly recommend all of York starting with the captivating Minster!

How beautiful is this building, I have been Lichfield Cathedral many times but this place is stunning. Unfortunately it was closed when I went but will definitely be returning to look inside

This place was incredible. The architecture was beautiful, the stain glass was incredibly preserved and maintained. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. This place has a huge amount of history and architectural beauty. Who knew it was built on top of Roman structures?!

A must see when in York, the stained glass windows are amazing, really unique for how well the are preserved. During covid there are no tours or audio guides available and a few areas are closed off, but there is a really easy one way system to follow and it felt very covid safe. It’s a shame that they couldn’t over some sort of audio guides over your own phone like other museums etc have started doing, but overall well worth the £12 entry.

When you hear about York, the York Minster is the first place that comes up to anyone's mind, for both the domestic and international tourists! Being the international tourism management student from Chester, this lovely city offered so much of learning resources, and when I stood in front of the York Minster, the ambiance was just in awe. Anyone that is visiting York must visit this Minster! Even people from America are aware of this amazing place.
