I was after a pair of trainers to help with walk around Rome in comfort, and without worsening a foot injury. I had excellent service from Elaine and a wonderful time in Rome. I walked thousands of steps each day, but in comfort! I am so grateful.

Wide selection of brands and shoe types (heel drops, different toe boxes, widths), treadmill and knowledgeable staff to help you out (although personally I preferred neutral to the recommended stability ones, after briefly trying them on a gym treadmill, and the shop allowed me to swap them). Not from Derby, but it's worth the journey to come here, for the service and to support a physical shop.

Good choice on trainers, great customer service. Always end up buying at least 2 pairs and get a good discount as well. Out of all trainers tried so far, highly recommend Asics 👍 gir design and comfort And certainly do not recommend ON brand (not long lasting, soles squeak on a wet surface and soles end up splitting and loosing shape. Unless you are under 55kg in weight, anything over that the soles aren't that strong to last you unfortunately

As a relative ‘newbie’ to the running world I went to Derby Runner in May and after having my running style checked walked away with some new running shoes.. as it turned out these shoes were not quite right for me comfort wise and we’re causing some pain, nothing to do with the advice given. I returned with my shoes, explained my issues, concerns and lack of experience to a member of staff names ‘Aiden’ … he was just fantastic from the outset, nothing was to much trouble. He took his time with me, went into detail about aspects of possible causes of my issues without complicating matters and offered advice going forward while also being realistic about expectations of various shoe fits to different people. What a breath of fresh air to actually deal with someone who actually knows what they are talking about. After listening to me he brought out several pairs of shoes he thought would do me better than my previous ones based on my running style, directed me to the treadmill and let me try endless pairs until we both felt comfortable. I have only been in the Derby runner three times and each time I feel like I have been treated like a valued customer. I can not recommend them highly enough.. Went to this shop on the basis of some recommendations. It did not disappoint, took my old running shoes and instantly got a diagnosis of the problems I was suffering, very knowledgeable and friendly staff reviewed my running on a treadmill and then offered me lots of different shoes to try. Needed to replace a pair of running shoes I bought from here around 4 years ago and the staff were as helpful as alwaye. They gave good advice as to which would be the best like for like replacement for my old ones, even with the store being closed currently, and sent me information on possible options. I went here to buy a new pair of road shoes and also to look at some trail shoes I was interested in. The lady that served me was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and patient (I bet I was in there for two hours in the end) and took the time to ensure I left with exactly what I was after. Although the road shoes I wanted were a great fit she still took the time to offer a number of different alternatives, and also let me try everything in a number of different sizes to find exactly the right shoe. The trail shoes I was considering didn't suit my feet in the end, so again she offered a number of different suggestions and I ended up coming away with a brand I wouldn't even have thought about considering online. I could try each pair on the treadmil in my own time, and an unexpected bonus was that I got a discount because I'd bought two pairs of shoes at once.

Sending on behalf of colleague. Just wanted to comment on the customer service I received on a recent visit. I was looking for some new running shoes but am a bit set in my ways. I prefer Adidas trainers but have been having a problem with them rubbing my small toe. The charming young lady that served me convinced me to try several other brands. I eventually ended up with a pair of wide fitting New Balance trainers that I have now had for about a month. I am really pleased with them and they have completely eliminated the rubbing problem. I also returned a pair of On Cloud trainers that I had purchased approximately 6 months earlier. I had only worn them about a dozen times but they had split down the side. I wasn’t trying to get my money back but just wanted them returned to the manufacturer for comment. In the end I was offered a 30% discount on my new trainers which I was more than happy with. Nothing new, been a regular visitor to " The Derby Runner". This shop is a great example of how to provide a great customer experience. Starting from the shoe experts providing the best fit for you with a friendly approach, without pushing you to buy. This makes the atmosphere more comfortable to think and choose. First came here 20 years ago and came back today for the right running shoes to get back in shape. This is still the best shop for running shoes and gear I have ever been in. Great selection but the real benefit comes from the service; I had help from a very knowledgeable, confident and patient young lady, and left with a great pair of trainers which I've already put to use (slowly). Can't rate highly enough, staff are friendly and really helpful. I went into replace my old trainers, one of the staff made sure I had the right size and recommended a size bigger than I had currently. Just what I needed. Someone who knows what she is doing. Started running with my usual shoe but my knees did not agree with my ambition probably ageing disagreement. Well in Derby runner the lady I met diagnosed my issue from the first look as over pronation and started to show me the different options. She was very patient with my deformed feet and my colour taste... kept comming with more shoes till I was happy. If you are looking for proper sport shoe this shop is ur best choice.

Excellent customer service from Dave today. He was really knowledgeable, helped me understand why running was leaving me in pain. He not only gave me some tips to help my Achilles tendon heal, but showed me exercises to help prevent further injury. Just been down for my first visit to the shop. Absolutely class. Staff were great. Really knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The shop was absolutely heaving with runners getting new shoes and lots of staff on hand to help out. The fact you can try on lots of different sizes and styles but then also jump on the treadmill is a huge help. Lots of options brand wise to choose from. I tried on New Balance, Nike, Saucony, Brooks and Asics before landing on a great new pair of Adidas. I would highly recommend anyone looking for new running shoes/gear in Derby to get down to the Derby Runner 👍🏃

They were delivered within a couple of days and exchanged quickly and socially distantly when they were just slightly too big. Just been for a steady run in them and they feel great so good advice! Been coming here for +20 years. They're brilliant, wouldn't shop anywhere else for proper running shoes. They analysis your walking/running style, then finding every suitable shoe for you to try on until you find the one most comfortable. My latest purchase had a fault and I'd apparently worn them out. But they explained the limits, replaced them under warranty and made sure I was happy with the different model for my replacements. In this day and age of internet purchasing and next day delivery, you will not buy a better product for your feet than a pair of trainers from these guys!

Made a visit to the store after a recommendation from a friend. Always had issues with pain in shins and knees when running so needed some proper advice. Was welcomed as soon as I walked in and had Guidance all the way throughout my visit. Was told my knees roll inwards and given so many options of shoes. Went with a black Nike pair in the end but the lady was willing to give me even more options if I wanted. Prices are competitive, maybe slightly higher then other places but it's good to support a smaller local business. Also it's better to pay a bit more for better service and walk out with the right thing rather then go somewhere were the price is slightly better but maybe walk out with the wrong thing. Also was no pressure to buy a anything else or attempt to upsel. Will definitely return for any more running needs. Thank you to the lady who helped me. Highly recommended.

Superb service. Great if you are starting out. Second time ever buying running shoes. First time was a large outdoor retailer - vast range of specialist gear. After a few weeks it became apparent that I wasn't going to "get used to them". Because, as a total novice, I didn't know that your runners need to significantly bigger than your regular shoes, but you'll only notice as you run as that's when your feet expand. Which is why I went to this high quality retailer... except they clearly didn't cover that in their staff training either. 5 minutes in The Derby Runner and I had learnt a crucial fact, and was at ease with total confidence in their advice. 5 more minutes and I had my trainers. And I got a discount. And they had sorted me with bargain end of line socks saving me more cash. Worked in retail for 17 years. If I could give 6 out of 5 I would.

I've had my old running trainers for almost 8 years and suffered with injuries at regular intervals so I visited The Derby Runner for the first time (embarrassing really as my mum only lives at the top of the road). This was during lockdown so had to be by a pre-booked appointment, which was easy to through Facebook. They were super friendly on arrival and quickly diagnosed my old trainers weren't doing anything for me. They also discovered I'm very slightly pronate, but got me on the treadmill for a gait analysis. I got a bit sweaty with the mask on and it being the hottest day of 2020. They got a range of trainers in my size to try on, in the end I went for a pair of Mizuno's. They were super helpful and seemed very knowledgeable about running (I just do it with aspirations of winning anything it's just about keeping fit at nearly 50). So I can fully recommend them.
