Reviews of Craigdon Mountain Sports

Visited here again today for a coffee and Spanish toast, this was all lovely as was the weather for sitting outside. Service was excellent. The little Spanish guy is lovely and the waitresses was great even through she looked like she was run of her feet. Cheers guys

What a find! Was looking for some warm winter coats for the kids and popped into Craigdon Edinburgh. Lovely spacious shop, tons of choice, super helpful staff and great prices. Can’t recommend more highly!
B. C.
Brilliant cafe
Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options and everything made fresh.
Clean and safe, a great stop off spot.
B. D.
Great cafe, with a substantial vegan option, the all day breakfast was fab.

This place is fantastic! Great stock, well laid out and a good vibe. The 5 stars go to the staff though - every time I have been in they are always so helpful and super knowledgable about the gear they sell. I've been a few times recently as I am currently researching and looking for equipment for a long backpacking trip I am due to do and everytime I've been in I always get a lovely member of staff who is never too busy to help me. Although I haven't bought anything yet I am definitely going to purchase my hiking shoes from here as their customer service has made me want to purchase from this store!
A.
Had a great experience getting walking boots here, the man who helped me was very knowledgeable, patient, and kind. WIll definitely return for other things in future.
C. H.
Vast range of outdoor clothing and a nice cafe.
Decent prices.
N.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. James took the time to find exactly the right pair of boots for me. They stock Altberg, who make a really good range of boots in lots of different fits. Great choice of equipment and clothing and I found some good value walking poles too. The cafe on the top floor does tasty food and drinks. Well worth the visit and I’d recommend them if your in the area.
T. H.
Craigdon has always been our shop of choice for mountain kit, but they've now fulfilled my need for police boots in a time where the style I was looking for is low in stock and high in demand. Richard went above and beyond to make sure the boots I wanted were waiting for me on my long drive in from Perthshire. Highly knowledgeable, extremely accommodating, and the friendliness of him and the other staff was outstanding! I can't thank Richard enough. Amazing wee shop!! 😁
S. G.
Top class service and advice from very experienced staff. Went in for a boot fitting and had a rough idea of what I was after but was blown away by the knowledge level of the deputy manager and store manager, where I was advised to go for Altberg Tethera's. Was really looked after and they weren't done until I got exactly the right boot and sole. Lifetime customer gained.
P. H.
Lovely and clean, staff friendly, food excellent
R. B.
Nice cafe & friendly staff , but a little expensive.
£4.50 for toast, butter & jam
C. B.
All geared up for winter got loads of activities on
H. D.
Fantastic stock.
A bit ££££££!
Wasn't too keen on being "followed" around the store by a member of staff!
D. F.
Good quality gear. Prices OK. Helpful and knowledgeable people in store. Cobbs cafe upstairs offers great food at good prices. Place always very clean and sanitised.
i. m.
Looked well stocked with a good sale on when I visited
L. E.
I was served by a lovely man called martin, he was most helpful and knew about everything I was asking which was super. I was greeted politely by all of the staff. The shop felt very well set up for Safe browsing. I got a real bargain on a tent, I'll definitely be going back!
D. N.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. I was only buying drinks, but needed a sugar free option. The staff obliged, then arrived at my table with a free sugar free scone! A much appreciated gesture! I will be back.
H. B.
Expensive but has a vast array of sport and outdoor wear.
E. S.
Called in here for walking boots. Great knowledgeable service. Could not do enough for you. Lovely little cafe on top floor as well.
G. L.
Very knowledgeable staff who can help you avoid mistakes when buying expensive outdoor gear. A good pair of hill walking boots will set you back £130-£200, and it is easy to make a mistake buying online. With support from the team at Craigdon you will get something suitable for your intended use and they have an excellent policy of after sales service.
M. C.
Great local shop. Expensive but really nice outdoor stuff, in my opinion worth the money. And amazing cafe. Very nice food and drinks, a play area for the little ones and the best part... dogs are welcome everywhere! Ample parking but be aware, because it is situated just off the Edinburgh city bypass it can take a while to get out to the main road.
J. W.
A Skiers paradise or if you need walking boots or waterproof garments this is the place to go
R. O.
I have very mixed feelings about this place. The café is fabulous. The view and what they serve and the staff in the cafe are all amazing. The staff in the rest of the store (outwith the ski department) are very helpful. The ski department I hate with a passion. Over a period of four years, I have been mis-sold to (more than once). I have been told information which was utterly wrong. Most recently, i was talked at and could hardly get a word in. I try to avoid going to the ski area if I can. I try and find any excuse to go to the café - definitely worth a visit. Breakfast is amazing. Their Eggs Benedict on haggis is just incredible.
M. N.
Friendly knowledgeable staff, good returns policy so can try the boots in the house for a couple of week see if they work for me!
A. K.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the food here. The quality is great, nice selection, reasonable prices and very good service too. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere as well.
I drove past this literally hundreds of times on my commute without ever going into the shop or the restaurant, but both are well worth stopping for.
E. M.
I found the staff here to be incredibly helpful. Recently I had to buy new pairs of 3 different types of shoes at once, something I would normally find really stressful. Going here made it really easy. Not only that, but I returned a pair after I realised they weren't exactly what i needed, and realised 3 weeks later that I hadn't taken my orthotics out. I didn't have the receipt and couldn't remember the brand name but the staff stuck with me on the phone trying to find the shoes from their records. Eventually we were able to find the shoe they thought it was. They didn't find the orthotics but took my details in case they turn up later. They went above and beyond and if I wasn't convinced before, I will definitely be buying all my outdoor gear from them in the future.
A. W.
What a fantastic shop with lovely buzz about it. Lovely cafe, friendly staff and well stocked shop to please any outdoor enthusiast! Will be back!
S. S.
Well informed service from knowledgeable staff, excellent range of mountain and hill walking clothing. Very friendly atmosphere in this purpose built building with good parking. Just bought a good quality and style Mountain Equipment jacket, which I haven't seen elsewhere, at a good price.
S. L.
Excellent shop. Good range of stock, but also staffed by super helpful folk. There to help without being overbearing, knowledgeable and professional. Will go back.
A. S.
First visit to the cafe happy with the service and menu.
b. f.
Great selection of quality clothing and accessories.
M. C.
Cobbs coffee shop and Red Box coffee. If you're walking out of the city to the Pentlands its a welcome stop for a mid morning break.
j. c.
All the best and latest outdoor gear
C. F.
First choice for outdoor adventure wear. Staff are very knowledgeable and give the best advice. I recently purchased a new pair of walking boots and couldn’t be happier. If I’m not mistaken they may actually be the only stockists of the Alt-berg boots in Edinburgh!
J. C.
Visited today to buy a few items. What a great shop. Everything under one roof at good prices. I was served by David today and he was brilliant throughout. Very knowledgable, not pushy at all and didn’t try to sell me the most expensive choices. Really great place. Can highly recommend.
C. R.
Really supportive staff didn't make me feel guilty about trying on lots of climbing shoes and not buying any (sadly the only ones that fitted weren't the right style for what I wanted).
S. E.
Good stock of equipment to cover just about all outdoor activities. Great location just as you enter/leave Edinburgh directly off/onto city bypass. Friendly, knowledgable and helpful staff. Great cafe too!
D. Y.
Went for coffee and cake son had roll massive portions reasonable prices excellent coffee and sale on
C. M.
Wide range of outdoor clothing & equipment. Knowledgeable staff. Easy parking.
H. M.
Nice but a bit over priced. The feta a spinach salad was just that with a few pomegranate seeds and was about £7! It's a popular spot though, and the coffee and cake are nice
N. W. C.
Nice coffee and cakes. Bit disappointed with the view as it's obscured by a wooden edge that stops you seeing the full glory of the hills. Silly design but apart from that a good place to visit with a well stocked mountain shop. Not cheap mind you.
S. K.
Excellent outdoor sports gear provider. Good selection of quality gear.
P. S.
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, made the shopping experience a decent one and came away with some new equipment that will last and be used regularly.
A. W.
Very wide selection and some great deals on footwear - well worth a look!
R. d. R.
It takes a wee while for orders..Nice food at a price...its dog friendly
B. S.
Have to confess we go for the excellent coffee shop on the upper floor. Outdoor gear very comprehensive and friendly staff. Items I like have a habit of being beyond my budget. (Not the coffee and scones!)
G. D.
Lovely staff and safe shopping with a one way system in place.
Very dog friendly
J. L.
Perfectly located on the route into Edinburgh for all those outdoorsy visitors to Scotland who've forgotten something. Tent peg mallet, anyone?
Staff were friendly and helpful but not in-your-face. Prices not extortionate.
K. M.
Shop has really good selection though it seems a tad pricey. Cafe nice enough. Would recommend the 'Black Witch stack' but tell them to go easy on the mustard sauce!
P. M.
Have had some skis drilled, other ones serviced, and ski-boots fitted here, and Richard and his team are first rate - knowledgeable, interested and patient, with a solid range of boots and experienced staff to talk through the options. Thanks, Craigdon! P
P. K.
Warrantied my walking boots before the suppliers even replied to them - excellent customer service
S. G.
Great wee place for breakfast or lunch.
D. M.
Good but wee bit expensive. Has always been a ski shop (back in Perth) and now is aimed squarely at Morningside yummy mummies off to Meribel (or less exotic Hillend) and their weans rather than serious outdoor people but always worth a look. Good selection of brands and stock.
S. R.
Really nice place although very lacking in atmosphere for some reason, they need to get it advertised better and pull in the visitors. Young but helpful staff.
Needs a boot up the backside in terms of updating, but manager would have to work out how to up its game
R. P.
Lovely place admired the stunning building for a while. Great range of clothing etc. Cafe beyond excellent. Gunpowder Tea only ever read that in a book.
R. S.
Great shop, friendly staff always on hand for a chat or advice, vast selection of gear. Very handy for Hillend dry slope. Decent cafe upstairs too.
A. M.
Good bargains if you look for them..no extendible tent poles though
B. C.
Good coffee. Hot chocolate was in an unusual jam jar pot glass. However would have preferred it something more convential. Style over substance. Lovely wooden tables good children's area. They allow dogs which personaly I like. Good view of pentlands.
B. D.
Visited the shop for the first time today I was very impressed well stocked shop nice friendly and helpful staff nothing a bother to them and very knowledgeable and had a coffee and scone to finish with lots of nice dogs with their owners great that the shop is dog friendly I will definitely be visiting the shop more
J. E.
Fabulous as ever. Great shop. Excellent stock. Andy knowledgeable staff. And price matched today's purchase. Absolute legends.
I. M.
Having returned from a ski season in Canada with a part missing from her ski boot, my daughter required to have this fixed quickly before heading to New Zealand to instruct there. Having tried various shops in Glasgow no one was able to obtain this specialist part.
Richard at Craigdon immediately understood the problem, identified what was required and said would attempt to source the part, despite having phoned both Atomic and Salomon to receive response that part unavailable until September.
He then went beyond what he needed to do and tried his contacts all over the country sourcing the part in Bicester for her.
This was customer service above and beyond expectations.
Thank you Richy.
R. D.
